^C^1Print Control

PRINT CONTROL creates short machine language programs that put your printer
into different print modes. All you have to do is tell PRINT CONTROL which
control codes cause your particular printer to produce compressed, bold face, or
other type styles. (Unlike most printer utilities, PRINT CONTROL works with all
printers -- just use your printer manual as a guide when entering control
codes.)

PRINT CONTROL saves the information needed to produce a particular type style
(compressed text, for example) in a COM file. When you run this COM file, then
dump a text file to the printer, the text will be printed in the special type
style. (Note: if you are using software that also issues control codes to the
printer, the effects of PRINT CONTROL's COM files may be overridden.)

Using the Program
-----------------
PRINT CONTROL first asks you for a drive and path name for the file. Keep in
mind that PRINT CONTROL does not check for the accuracy of the drive/path name
you enter: if you make a mistake, the program may crash or put the COM file in a
strange place. If you would like to send the file to the default drive, press
ENTER when asked for the drive/path name.

Next, PRINT CONTROL requests the name of the file you are creating. It's a
good idea to give the file an easily remembered name. A file that contains
codes to activate compressed printing could be called COMPRON, for example.
(Note that you do not have to add the ".COM" extension to the filename.)

Next you are asked to enter the codes to be sent to the printer. Usually,
these control codes begin with ESC, which is ASCII "27". On some printers,
particularly the Epson printers, if you turn compressed printing on, you will
have to turn compressed printing off before you can select another print type.
Any control codes less than ASCII 32 can be entered with an Alt+key combination.
These key combinations are presented on the screen. If, for example, your print
code is ESC "Q", you can enter it by entering ESC or Alt-7, then entering "Q".
If your print code is ESC "L005", then you can enter it by entering ESC, then
"L005".

The up and down arrow keys move the cursor from selection to selection. The
left and right arrows move the cursor left and right. The home key moves the
cursor to the beginning of the selection, while the end key moves it to the end.
The backspace key deletes the character to the left of the cursor. The delete
key deletes the character under the cursor. The insert key toggles the insert
mode on and off. The insert mode is on when you see a large cursor, off when
you see a small cursor.

F9 will save the codes in the named file and blank the information. F10 also
saves the codes but leave the information alone. This is useful for putting
different files in the same subdirectory.

You can enter any print control codes of up to 130 characters with this
program, so, for example, you can issue the compressed print OFF codes, then
issue the elite print ON codes all in one little program. You can exit the
program at any time by hitting the F1 key.

To run this program outside BIG BLUE DISK, type: ^1PRINTCTL^0.
