Introduction/About This Guide ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone, and welcome to my achievement guide for "Final Fantasy 15" for the Xbox One console. This is my fifth FAQ effort; I have also done achievement guides for "Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII" and a few other games. Before I get into anything, I will say that if you have questions about this guide or want to point out anything you feel I've overlooked, you're more than welcome to contact me. I'll put an e-mail at the end of this guide. If you do contact me, be sure to title your e-mail "Final Fantasy 15" or something like that, otherwise I'll probably delete it without knowing what it is. The purpose of this guide is to aid gamers in getting all of the achievements for "Final Fantasy 15" in a straightforward and timely fashion. I will focus mainly on my own experiences in getting the achievements, as well as a few strategies I've seen posted in other places. "Final Fantasy 15" has 50 achievements worth a total of 1000 points. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Getting Started ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to "Final Fantasy 15," the long-awaited new installment in the Final Fantasy franchise. This game features plenty of distractions and challenges packed into a large open world, so there's plenty to keep your attention as you progress on your journey. For the most seamless experience possible, you should probably play this game on "Easy" difficulty. That said, "Normal" isn't too hard, and if you play the whole game on that setting you won't have to worry about switching it back before the Ifrit fight. It's up to you, and you can always change it back by going to the settings menu. I would recommend doing as many side-quests and hunts as you can while you progress through the story. The extra levels and gear will make the main quest easier to handle, and you'll need to do all those side-quests anyway if you're going for the achievements associated with them. Try not to sell anything (other than maybe a few old weapons) if you can help it. Some of the loot you'll acquire can be added to spells to really bump up the damage and experience gained. Save often. You'll be glad you did. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Achievements and Strategies ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STORY-RELATED ACHIEVEMENTS: (These will unlock by simply progressing through the main missions.) 1. "Insomnia's Waking Nightmare" - Completed the Prologue 2. "Departure" - Completed Chapter 1 3. "No Turning Back" - Completed Chapter 2 4. "The Open World" - Completed Chapter 3 5. "Living Legend" - Completed Chapter 4 6. "Dark Clouds" - Completed Chapter 5 7. "A Way Forward" - Completed Chapter 6 8. "Party of Three" - Completed Chapter 7 9. "Seaworthy" - Completed Chapter 8 10. "Callings" - Completed Chapter 9 11. "The Heart of a King" - Completed Chapter 10 12. "In the Dark" - Completed Chapter 11 13. "End of Days" - Completed Chapter 12 14. "Redemption" - Completed Chapter 13 15. "Homecoming" - Completed Chapter 14 NON-STORY-RELATED ACHIEVEMENTS: 16. "Learner's Permit" - Drove the Regalia Notes: Nothing to this one. Just get in the car and select "manual" to drive around. You'll probably do most of your car trips on auto, though. Driving in this game isn't very much fun. 17. "Chocobo Jockey" - Rode a Chocobo Notes: Chocobos are back in "Final Fantasy 15," and you can rent one by simply visiting the Chocobo icons on your map. Before you can do this, however, you'll have to progress the story to Chapter 3 and visit the Chocobo Ranch to begin the "Friends of a Feather" side-quest. Wiz at the ranch will give you a quest hunt called "A Behemoth Undertaking" and once you've taken care of that you can officially rent chocobos. Killing a Behemoth may sound like a difficult proposition, but he's not too tough. 18. "Quadruple Threat" - Equipped four weapon slots Notes: This one is easy. Just go to "Gear" in the menu and equip four different weapons in each of the available slots. 19. "New Power" - Learned first ability Notes: Once you've gained some AP, go to "Ascension" in the menu and choose to unlock a new ability. 20. "Self-Improved" - Activated 20 ability nodes 21. "Self-Mastered" - Activated 50 ability nodes Notes: Chances are, these will come naturally as you progress through the game. If you want to speed the process up for the sake of the achievement, you can concentrate on unlocking the nodes that don't require much AP to open, or do some AP farming. Make sure to activate the node that allows AP gain from Warp Strikes, then find a group of low-level enemies (near Hammerhead is a good spot). Warp Strike them for 1 AP each, then repeat the process by calling them back with the Monster Whistle. It's also a good idea to unlock the nodes that give you AP for doing mundane things like riding in the car or fishing. The return in AP will far outweigh the initial investment. 22. "Angling Rookie" - Improved fishing level for the first time 23. "Angling Expert" - Reached maximum fishing level Notes: Fishing in this game isn't as fun as you might think, and leveling up the skill is quite a grind. You should probably wait to do the bulk of this until later in the game when you can get a better rod and line. Try the shop at the Vesperpool to get some of the best stuff. Bigger and rarer fish are worth more in leveling up this skill, but they take much longer to reel in. A better strategy is to concentrate on some of the smaller and more common fish. You can reel these guys in after just a few seconds, which saves you the hassle of trying to keep the line from breaking. Fish until the spot is empty, then quit the fishing mini-game and re-enter to get the fish to respawn. You will have to fish for several in-game days to get to level 10, so cue up some music and settle in. 24. "Survival Rookie" - Improved survival level for the first time 25. "Survival Expert" - Reached maximum survival level Notes: You level up this skill by walking or running, and it takes a long, long time to max it out. When I finished the game (after a bunch of side quests as well) I was only at level 7. To get those last few levels I spent several hours with a rubber band on my controller, running Noctis against a wall. Periodically you'll have to check on your setup if you go this route, as your controller will shut off if you leave it unattended for long. Needless to say, this will probably be one of the last achievements that you unlock. 26. "Photo Rookie" - Improved photography level for the first time 27. "Photo Expert" - Reached maximum photography level. Notes: This is probably the easiest ability to max out. Prompto doesn't require a lot of hand-holding; he'll take tons of pictures as you move through the story and level himself up. To hurry this one along, you can do the photo op side-quests (they only take a couple of minutes) when they come up, or you can pick up Prompto's Snapshot ability and spam it in every battle. Realistically, though, you probably won't have to focus too much on this one. 28. "Cooking Rookie" - Improved cooking level for the first time 29. "Cooking Expert" - Reached maximum cooking level Notes: I think I was around level 8 or so with this when I finished the main story. I made a hard save, then maxed it out by cooking the most complex recipes I had. It didn't take too long. One strategy I have seen for this one is to buy Luncheon Meat at Galdin Quay, then make "Mystery Meat Sushi" over and over until you max out the skill. As you're playing through the game, be on the lookout for cookbooks and recipe ingredients. The more stuff you collect, the more recipes Ignis can make. 30. "Just Hangin' Around" - Performed first point-warp suspension 31. "Brother-In-Arms" - Issued first ally command 32. "Blind Spot" - Performed first blindside link 33. "Noct You Like a Hurricane" - Initiated first link-strike after parrying an attack. Notes: These are all unlocked in battle, and you'll likely get them all without even trying. The game will walk you through point-warp suspensions, and you basically just have to follow the on-screen prompts to execute a block and/or parry. Your partners will jump in automatically to finish off the moves and get the achievements. 34. "The Power of Kings" - Called forth the Armiger for the first time Notes: Once you pick up three of the Armiger weapons (through the main story), you'll get a new gauge and ability. When it's full, press LB and RB to call out the Armiger and get the achievement. 35. "Magical Worker" - Crafted a spell for the first time 36. "Black Mage" - Used magic for the first time. Notes: This is pretty easy stuff. Just go to the Elemancy menu, pick an empty magic flask, add however much of the element you want, then hit Craft. In order to use the magic, equip it in the Gear menu (or equip it when prompted right after making it). 37. "Divine Intervention" - Summoned one of the Six for the first time Notes: This one seems to happen mainly by chance. As you progress through the main story, you'll pick up a few items that will enable you to summon a powerful ally (Titan, Ramuh, Leviathan, Shiva, Carbuncle, Bahamut) to aid you in battle. When you see a prompt to hold LT at the bottom of your screen make sure you do it. It seems like this has a higher chance of happening the longer a fight is drawn out, and also if you're getting your butt kicked. Let your allies die to give yourself a better chance if you're just looking for the achievement. 38. "High Five for Justice!" - Played JUSTICE MONSTERS FIVE for the first time Notes: Inside any Crow's Nest Diner, you'll notice a pinball-machine-type thing off to the left as you enter. All you have to do is play for a few seconds and when you exit the achievement will pop. Aside from that, it's not a particularly fun game or anything. 39. "Spinning a Yarn I" - Completed first sidequest 40. "Spinning a Yarn II" - Completed 5 sidequests 41. "Spinning a Yarn III" - Completed 10 sidequests 42. "Spinning a Yarn IV" - Completed 20 sidequests 43. "Spinning a Yarn V" - Completed 40 sidequests 44. "Weaving a Tapestry" - Completed 80 sidequests 45. "My First Hunt" - Completed first hunt Notes: 80 sidequests may sound like a lot, but over the course of the entire game it's really not. None of these quests is missable or on a timer, so you can take care of them at your leisure. Lestallum, in particular, has a ton of quest-givers, and each completed quest will lead to a new one. Hunts are also a form of sidequest. Pick them up at any diner and slay the beast(s) for your reward. Be careful about taking on anything that's outside your level range, though. It's probably best to wait a while before doing those tough quests. 46. "Chosen King" - Defeated Ifrit on Normal difficulty Notes: This achievement marks the only time you have to play outside of Easy mode. Ifrit comes in the last chapter of the game before the final boss. Really, he's not too tough to take down. Equipping fire-resistance items and eating a pre-fight meal with Flameproof will help with damage reduction, and as far as offense the Ice Brand is a good choice but not totally necessary. Use lots of Warp Strikes and you shouldn't have any trouble here. If for some reason you forget to change the difficulty to Normal, you can replay the fight once the main story is finished. Thus, this achievement is not missable. 47. "Regalia Pilot" - Flew the Regalia Type-F Notes: After you finish the game you can start working on this one. Call Umbra and return to Lucis, then look northwest of Hammerhead to see a quest marker. This is Formouth Garrison, and you'll have to conquer it to receive a strange engine part. Once you have the new piece, take it to Cindy and she'll install it for you, enabling the Regalia to fly. If Cindy won't install the part, you may need to finish her quest line of fetching car pieces first. You may enjoy it more than I did, but I found flying the Regalia to be little more than a novelty, and fairly difficult to control. 48. "Faithful Heir" - Collected thirteen royal arms Notes: The first seven of these are related to the main story and come automatically. For the other six, you'll have to hunt them down in the open world and find them at the end of dungeons. Here's a list of the remaining weapons, where to find them and how strong you need to be to go after them. Bow of the Clever - Beat Balouve Mines (level 50) Sword of the Tall - Beat Costlemark Tower (level 55; night) Shield of the Just - Loot it at Tomb of the Just Scepter of the Pious - Beat Malmalam Thicket (level 35) Mace of the Fierce - Beat The Rock of Ravatogh (level 30) Star of the Rogue - Beat The Myrlwood (level 35) 49. "Immortal Photobomb" - Caught an image of Gentiana in a photo Notes: This one seems to be random. After Chapter 5, Gentiana will start showing up in the background of your photos every so often. Make sure you flip through all your pictures each time you rest; the characters will comment on Gentiana when she shows up. When I finished my game, I had around 15 pictures featuring Gentiana, so you shouldn't have any problem catching her--just make sure you're looking at all your pictures when you camp or rest. 50. "Tortoise Toppler" - Defeated the adamantoise Notes: After you finish the main story, call Umbra and return to Lucis. Once you're there, you should get a call from Cindy that will start the "Let Sleeping Mountains Lie" side quest, which will wake up the adamantoise. After that, take the "Lonely Rumblings in Longwythe" hunt to challenge the beast. You can do this as early as Chapter 9. Okay, first things first, from a preparation standpoint you should take a ton of healing items; this fight will last a long time and if you die you have to start it all over again. Level-wise, you'll probably want to be at around 70 at least, but I have heard of people doing it in the 50s; it just takes longer. When I did it, I was level 82 and it took me about an hour and fifteen minutes. Make sure you eat a good meal beforehand; try something with a high strength buff to help speed the process along. As far as the actual fight, Adamantoise doesn't really hit that hard, and he's incredibly slow. He does have a ton of HP, though, which is what causes this fight to drag on so long. The best strategy is to pick a foot and start going to town on it with your best attacks. Eventually, the adamantoise will drop his head and you'll see the "vulnerable" sign on him. This is your cue to move over to the head, as the damage will be intensified. When he raises his head back up, return to his foot and continue the process. Use Ignis' Enhancement ability for some extra damage, and equip Noctis with your best greatsword. Call the Armiger every time it's available and spam magic as much as you can. Adamantoise isn't weak to any elements, but the -ra spells (fira, thundara, blizzara) can do 9999 damage with each shot. Add in a quad or a quintcast and you have yourself some major damage. From there, it's just a matter of repeating the process until you scrape adamantoise's health down to zero. Chances are it will take at least an hour, so settle in and listen to some music to make the time fly by. Also, for what it's worth: there are a few videos floating around YouTube which show an adamantoise fight lasting just seven minutes or so. This method involves using the Zwill Crossblades for Noctis and the Golden Tail Soup as a buff. Ignis' Enhancement and Prompto's Piercer also factor in heavily here. I haven't tried this method, though, so I don't have any first-hand experience with it. I do know that the Zwill Crossblades are kind of a pain to get, though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Conclusion ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- All things considered, the achievements in "Final Fantasy 15" aren't too difficult to get; it's just a matter of putting in the hours required. Although the game has some issues (the horrible battle camera; the near-worthless AI; etc.) it's still a welcome addition to the Final Fantasy franchise. I enjoyed it from beginning to end, and none of the achievements really felt like work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.
