When the party makes camp, Ignis will be able to make a meal for the party. These meals are unlocked by recipes. Recipes can be unlocked by various methods such as: - bought from a store - reward for levelling up Ignis' Cooking skill - eating a specific meal at a restaurant - observing a meal being eaten by some random person - catching a fish - finding a book/note in the field - finding ingredients in the field Note that for the recipes that require fish, you cannot unlock these recipes by purchasing the fish ingredients in Altissa. You MUST obtain the fish ingredient by actually fishing. Also, in some cases you may have the required ingredients and yet the recipe will not unlock. In these situations, simply purchasing an ingredient and then exiting the store menu should unlock the recipe (e.g. you have all the ingredients for Moist Tomato Cake and yet it is still locked, so you have to buy 1 Killer Tomato in Lestallum and then quit the shop menu and it should be unlocked). Each recipe also has unique bonuses, such as increased Attack, Magic, HP, etc. You'll want to use a good recipe when going into a dungeon/boss battle if you want to make things easier. These bonuses last for quite a while and you can extend their length through the Ascension grid. Certain meals are loved by an individual party member. For Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto, eating one of their favourite meals allows them to always do a critical hit when they do a Technique. For Noctis, his favourite meals allow the Tech Bar to replenish faster. These bonuses last as long as the meal bonuses are active. If you do a New Game+, all your inventory and recipes are saved, so you won't have to unlock them all over again. Of the 103 recipes, only one is missable (#100), though you can get it again through New Game+. The format for the recipes below is as follows: #. Recipe Name How to unlock recipe. Ingredient(s). Some fish can only be caught at a certain time of day (such as only during the night). Some fish can be found in multiple Fishing Spots. There are 24 Fishing Spots in the game, with two being in Altissa. If you plan on catching all fish, I highly recommend you complete all of Navyth's Side Quests as the reward for completing his last Side Quest is Tranquility, the best rod in the game. The best reel, Llymlaen, can be purchased at the Totomostro arena in Altissia for 85,000 medals. Having these two items equipped will make fishing much easier. The radar at the top-right corner of the screen will show the fish that can be caught. You can reset this number by quitting fishing and trying again, or by snagging a fish and then let the line wear out completely. Blue dots are fish that give treasure, while yellow dots are fish that can be used in recipes. The big dots are more rare/bigger fish. Noctis' Fishing Level also has an impact on fishing. Every fish Noctis catches increases his Fishing Level. Each level provides the following bonuses: - Level 2: Fishing line wear down 25 percent less quickly when fish struggle - Level 3: Tackle shops offer 10 percent discount on all items - Level 4: Chances of hooking fish are increased by 25 percent - Level 5: Ability to catch fish up 31.5 inches - Level 6: Tackle shops offer 30 percent discount on all items - Level 7: Fishing line wears down 50 percent less when fish struggle - Level 8: Chances of hooking a fish increased by 50 percent - Level 9: Tackle shops offer 50 percent discount - Level 10: Catch fish up to 59 inches You can buy lures and lines across the land. There's a "hidden" Fishing Shop in the Vesterpools in the far northern area of the lake; Noctis and co. will have to ride a Chocobo through the water to find this shop. Some quick tips: - the game will tell you which direction to turn the rod towards (left or right), this is based on the direction the fish is swimming. - only reel in for a maximum of three seconds, after about three seconds of reeling the fish will likely change direction. - if you do not turn the rod in the direction the fish is swimming, your line's durability will greatly deplenish. - some of the very rare fish can take almost 10 minutes to reel in, take your time in these situations and make sure you use the best line, Dragon's Beard, which as a durability of 2000. - some fish can be found in multiple spots across the land, and may even be out at a different time of day than specified below (e.g. a fish found only in the mornings may also be out in the early part of the day). - if you get fed up with the characters' constant talking, you can turn down speech volume in the main menu.
