While I am playing the game on PS4, pretty much everything here should apply equally to PS4 and Xbox One. BFV has fewer and simpler trophies than previous Battlefield games so there's perhaps less need for a guide but I've been writing trophy guides for the series since BF3 and I enjoy writing guides in this format (plus I'd already made the ASCII-art title!) so here's another one. My main objectives are to give explanations and tips for each trophy and to share some interesting trivia about history, translations, weapons, games, etc. I'm sure that I'll come up with plenty of random info to share with you. If you found this guide useful or interesting you can show your support by using the recommend function. If you have any feedback (especially suggestions for additions) then please feel free to contact me via email or GameFAQs message. This guide is designed to be viewed in a fixed-width font (preferably Courier New) and with 80 characters per line. Since December 2018 the default font for GameFAQs text guides is Courier New only when viewing on desktop platforms. *After the deviation of Battlefield 1 (named for World War I), Battlefield V resumes the numbering of the main military Battlefield series following 2013's Battlefield 4. However the "V" is not only the Roman numeral for five, it was also a popular symbol of Victory used during World War II. .------------.-----------------------------------------------------------------. | Section 02 | TROPHIES LIST s02 | '------------'-----------------------------------------------------------------' The base game has only 21 trophies/achievements plus the platinum on PS4. The trophies are listed below in the default PS4 menu order. For once these have actually been presented in a fairly logical order so I've used the same sequence in the main body of this guide. To jump directly to the entry for any specific trophy in the guide just copy the trophy name from here and use your browser's Find function (Ctrl+F). 01 World War Two Hero [Platinum] Single-Player Trophies (see Section 03) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ 02 Storyteller [Gold/85G] 03 Veteran [Gold/90G] 04 Sins of the Fathers [Gold/90G] 05 Lovely [Silver/30G] 06 Store fuglar fanga ingi flugor [Silver/30G] 07 Ou La Mort [Silver/30G] Multiplayer Trophies (see Section 04) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ 08 Off-hand [Silver/30G] 09 Enemy Attrition [Bronze/15G] 10 Hoist the Flag [Silver/30G] 11 Globetrotter [Gold/90G] 12 Death from Above [Gold/90G] 13 Fender Bender [Silver/30G] 14 Grim Reaper [Silver/30G] 15 Call 'em in! No additional trophies were added with the fourth war story in December 2018, Combined Arms (co-op mode) in February 2019 or Firestorm (Battle Royale mode) in March 2019. It seems unlikely now that further trophies will be added but it's possible that some may come with the addition of new theatres or factions. .------------.-----------------------------------------------------------------. | Section 03 | SINGLE-PLAYER TROPHIES s03 | '------------'-----------------------------------------------------------------' Like BF1, BFV's single-player mode consists of a prologue and several unrelated "war stories" set in different countries. The first three stories - Under No Flag, Nordlys & Tirailleur - were available at launch. There are only six trophies for story mode - one each for completing the first three war stories and one each for completing the same three stories on Medium, Hard and Hardcore difficulties. All four difficulty levels are available from the start so you don't need to unlock Hardcore diff and you can get all six trophies by completing a single playthrough of Under No Flag, Nordlys and Tirailleur on Hardcore if you want or you might prefer to play on an easier diff first to learn your way around. The fourth and final war story - The Last Tiger - was added as part of the free Overture update on 5 December 2018. This story is not required for the trophies and the update didn't add any new trophies. General Tips ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This section has some basic info that applies to most parts of the first three war stories. (Specific hints for each act of each story are given under the relevant trophies below.) The game encourages reconnaissance and this can give you an advantage whatever strategy you favour. Before entering a new objective area try to find a good vantage point to survey the region. Press R1 [or RB on Xbox] to equip your binoculars and look directly at points of interest to tag them. In addition to enemies, this will also mark alarm posts, weapon crates and vehicles. The compass bar at the top of the screen indicates the bearing/s of your next objective/s. It will also mark the direction of any enemies you've spotted - the white markers turn red for enemies that are alerted. __ A stealthy approach is often the most effective. Crouching and moving slowly allows you to move quietly behind cover. You can press d-pad up to throw a lure which will attract a nearby enemy. This method can be used to get them into a secluded spot where you can creep up behind them for a melee takedown. You may be able to avoid a firefight and you'll save ammo too. If an enemy sees you briefly they will come over to investigate so you need to move away and hide or try to lure them to a different location. If their alert indicator turns red they will go to an alarm post to call reinforcements so try to intercept them. You can disable an alarm by interacting directly with the button box. It is also possible to take out an alarm by shooting it but it seems to require several shots on the box and you need a suppressed weapon to do it quietly (and they all have limited ammo). You can just avoid enemies instead of killing them. You can creep around them and use your lures to get them to look/move in a different direction. However it is useful to have fewer threats in an area so if you have an opportunity to remove an enemy discretely then it's usually worth doing. __ You can pick up new guns, grenades and gadgets. You can replace your primary and secondary guns and you're not limited to sidearms in your secondary slot so you can carry a rifle and a machinegun together for example. You can find guns on dead enemies and at the weapon crates which are scattered around the levels. Guns with sound suppressors (silencers) are very handy for picking off enemies quietly at range with headshots. The M1911 pistol and Commando Carbine are both suppressed and some of the Kar 98k rifles have a silencer too. It's often a good idea to have one suppressed weapon and one automatic weapon (like a machinegun or an assault rifle) in case things go wrong, however you can equip two copies of the same gun at once to double your ammo capacity, e.g. your max ammo for the suppressed Kar 98k is ten rounds but with two guns it's twenty. You can set custom colours for your hit markers in the settings. By default the hit markers for a kill are red and that's especially useful for confirming a kill when sniping at long range or shooting an enemy in cover. It's important to make good use of cover during combat - enemies can hit you quickly and accurately even at long range and a single sniper shot on Hardcore can take off 70 health. Always use a position where you can strafe, prone or retreat into cover when you take damage. Wait for your health to regenerate fully before getting back into the fight. You also need to consider that some types of cover can get destroyed by enemy fire. __ You can resupply from ammo stations but (as in multiplayer) you can also get ammo from dead enemies so if you're sniping with limited ammunition it's worth visiting your victims (before their ammo pouches despawn). Another new feature copied from multiplayer is the buddy revive which can be used by your opponents! Sometimes when you kill one enemy you'll see another one come over to revive him - if this soldier is spotted he'll temporarily be marked with a medic icon. Watch out for enemies trying to undo your efforts. You can use this to your advantage because (as in multiplayer) killing an enemy can draw another one out of cover and give you an easy target while they revive. There are multiple checkpoints during each mission. The game will auto-save (with a "V" icon in the top-right corner) when you complete an objective which could be destroying a target or simply advancing to a certain point. Whenever this happens you know that your progress is saved and you can take advantage of the checkpoint. You can run around to explore an area and work out where the enemies are, then restart from the checkpoint if you get killed - I like to think of this as the 'Groundhog Day' method. :) 01 World War Two Hero* [Platinum] "Collect all other Battlefield V Trophies" You get this automatically after meeting the requirements of all 21 other trophies in the base game - fifteen are from multiplayer (see Section 04) and the other six are from the single-player war stories (see below). *The platinum trophy in BF1 was called 'World War One Hero'. 02 Storyteller [Gold/85G] "Complete the war stories Under No Flag, Nordlys & Tirailleur on Medium" The three difficulty trophies stack so you will get this one for completing those three war stories on Medium, Hard or Hardcore diff. 03 Veteran [Gold/90G] "Complete the war stories Under No Flag, Nordlys & Tirailleur on Hard" The three difficulty trophies stack so you will get this one for completing those three war stories on Hard or Hardcore diff. 04 Sins of the Fathers* [Gold/90G] "Complete the war stories Under No Flag, Nordlys & Tirailleur on Hardcore" See above for general tips on playing these war stories and see below for some specific hints for each of the three stories. Remember to set the difficulty each time you start a new war story. The game doesn't remember your previous choice and defaults back to Medium each time. I've seen reports of the difficulty trophies not popping for some players. If this happens it's recommended to revisit any stories showing "RESUME" on the single-player menu to watch the final cutscene again. *The prologue which auto-plays upon first loading the game briefly shows a WWI war memorial statue which is inscribed with the text "The gods visit the sins of the fathers upon the children." (WWII began two decades after WWI.) 'The Sins of the Father' was also the title of a mission in Call of Duty 4! 05 Lovely [Silver/30G] "Complete Under No Flag war story" In this story you play as William "Billy" Bridger, a young British criminal who gets recruited out of prison into the new Special Boat Section* for a mission to sabotage German assets in North Africa in 1942. You get this trophy for finishing the war story on any difficulty. You don't need to complete all the challenges and collectibles, but if you do complete everything you'll unlock the Cricket Bat (melee weapon) for multiplayer. *The top brass of the Royal Navy were unconvinced of the usefulness of a naval special-forces unit until Roger Courtney gave a (surprise) practical demonstration by infiltrating a navy landing-ship and writing his initials on the captain's door! The original Special Boat Section was founded during WWII in 1940 and Courtney was given command (and a promotion to Captain). They were initially known as the Folboat Troop because they used folding kayaks called "folboats". In BFV the death screens during Under No Flag sometimes have a quote from Courtney's briefing 'The Compleat Folbotist'. Read it here: https://collection.nam.ac.uk/detail.php?acc=1992-03-218-108 Act 1 - Crossing Lines ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ (I'll give a few hints for each of the war stories. These are not full walk- throughs by any means but hopefully some bits will be helpful.) Your first objective in the first act is to sabotage a Stuka dive-bomber on a German airfield but you'll need to bypass a well-guarded junkyard first. You're equipped with a Thompson submachinegun with a crosshair optic and an M1911 pistol but there are plenty of opportunities to swap these. You can't miss the first weapon crate which has a Commando Carbine.* This is a suppressed weapon so it's great for taking out guards quietly although it has limited ammo, the bolt action is slow and it can be difficult to see the iron sights Against a Dark Background. (My favourite book by Iain M. Banks!) The plane junkyard has several guards and an alarm post so you can practise your stealth strats. You can remove the guards with carbine headshots or by throwing lures to get them into a remote corner for a melee takedown kill. Your first waypoint is on the other side of the junkyard so head east and follow the marker on the compass bar. If you skirt left around the junkyard you'll see a track which runs north to the coast then west to the runway but your waypoint is on the rocky terrain inland and that will provide a better viewpoint to scout the next objective area with your binoculars. Watch out for patrolling guards among the rocks and in the ruins. You'll pass a weapon crate with a Kar 98k Suppressed rifle with a high-power sniper scope which will come in very handy. It's on higher ground, roughly due south of the first watchtower in the airfield and close to a campfire which is dangerously close to some fuel barrels! When you reach the waypoint an entry point will be marked on the side of the hangar and you can use your binos to mark the multiple enemies nearby. You can snipe them or sneak in using lures as distractions. Watch out for the heavy trooper (marked with three dots) wielding a flamethrower - even on Easy diff he's a bullet sponge. It is possible to detonate his fuel tank with gunfire but it takes several shots. It's not vital but before entering the hangar it's worth making sure you have a useful gun for a mid-range firefight, although there will be a WWI Lewis gun which you can grab off a crate. Also (if you want to) you can hang onto a suppressed sniper rifle for the next act. Combat can be especially dangerous on Hardcore difficulty. Make good use of cover but remember that it can get blown up by rockets. If you take damage, drop into cover and wait until you're fully healed before you peek again. Look out for the group of reinforcements that arrive by truck on the right side of the hangar. You can use one of the anti-air gun turrets for the final stage. Remember to lead your shots - aim slightly in front of your target if they're moving perpendicular to your line of fire. *BFV's "Commando Carbine" is the De Lisle Carbine - a bolt-action SMLE rifle converted to use the same subsonic .45 ACP round as the Thompson and M1911 and fitted with a long integrated sound suppressor. Made for use by British commandos, it is regarded as one of the quietest firearms ever made. Act 2 - Butcher and Bolt* ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ There are three objective areas in Act 2 and you can do them in any order. They're several hundred metres apart but there are plenty of vehicles around if you want to travel in style, just watch out for random enemies (especially the patrolling truck) and approach each objective on foot. A Kübelwagen car is available directly ahead (north-west) of your starting position but be aware that there are two soldiers there. 1) Village (radar stations) I started with the village where you need to destroy two separate radar installations to reach the auto-save checkpoint. This is quite a large area with several guards around both objectives and more besides so you should try to avoid creating a widespread disturbance. The radar dish to the south-west has buildings nearby so there is some potential for sneaking into the area and luring guards to their doom. The second dish to the north-west of the village is on high ground so it's harder to assault safely and I decided to snipe across the village from near the first dish. If you still have your suppressed Kar 98k from the first act you'll need to aim high to compensate for bullet-drop at this sort of range - a holdover of about one head height should do it. Check the colour of your hitmarkers to confirm kills. There's a weapon crate about twenty metres south-east of the second radar dish with another Kar 98k Suppressed sniper rifle. You can equip two at once to double your ammo capacity but that will leave you with nothing for close-quarters combat (unless you're good at pro no-scopes I guess). 2) Comms Bunker The communications bunker is on the far side of the hill with the tall radio tower, about 400 metres west of the village. If you approach from the village side, head up the hill to the radio mast where you can easily dispatch the lookout by the camo netting. He has a standard Kar 98k but there's yet another suppressed model on a crate. This is a good spot from which to recce the bunker and surrounding camp below, but watch out for the other guys on the hill to the north-east. There's a lot of enemies at ground level, mostly around the south-west side of the bunker covering the entrance (next to the green cross). There is also one near the alarm post, behind the bunker. You can snipe both or snipe him and sneak down to disable the alarm. It is possible to lure away a few guards and then run straight into the bunker entrance (and through to the next door). If the guards see you, they'll be waiting for you after the cutscene but entering the bunker room triggers a checkpoint so you can restart with the objective complete. From the bunker it's 800 metres (north-east) to the final objective. 3) Airbase Your targets here are a couple of supply dumps. The objective to the south-east is a cache of red barrels which can easily be detonated by gunfire at range so you might prefer to leave that one until after doing the other. The other objective towards the north-west side of the airfield is a munitions depot. It can be detonated from a short distance if you can get close enough to throw a hand-grenade. You can snipe enemies from the overlooking hillside but there is a risk of running out of ammo. If you can make it to the watchtower at the north- west end of the runway you'll find a suppressed ZH-29 marksman rifle. I should also note that the Stuka dive-bombers on the runway are playable! Your loadout at the end of this act will carry over into Act 3 so you might want to change it accordingly, although I hardly used my loadout weapons at all in that part. *"Butcher and Bolt" is old military slang to describe a mission where you invade enemy territory and attack them brutally before making a quick exit. Act 3 - Onslaught* ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This section does live up to its name. It was pretty punishing on Hardcore diff as you can't really use stealth - unless you count hiding in cover every few seconds to heal! You need to single-handedly hold off waves of German forces (infantry, ground vehicles and planes) as they advance from the east. There are lots of resources available in the ruins and it's worth taking some time to familiarise yourself with the locations of the weapon pickups (especially the Panzerfausts), ammo crates and stationary weapon turrets. There's a large ammo station at the back of the area and close to that on the north side by the car is the "Archie" (anti-aircraft turret). The field gun is good against vehicles but you need to allow for drop when engaging targets at longer ranges. You can also use it against infantry but it is slow to reload. You can use the Panzerfaust launchers against vehicles too. You get three rounds but you can resupply from an ammo crate or just pick up another one. The mounted MGs are good against the infantry but, like any of the turrets, this leaves you very exposed so you have to be ready to exit the weapon and get into cover quickly. The location is already in ruins but it'll be worse by the end of the story! Walls and sandbags can serve you as cover but they can and will get destroyed by heavy enemy fire. It's much safer to use indestructible cover like the rocky terrain and ammo stations. The good news is that there are multiple checkpoints so you don't need to restart from the beginning of the act each time you die. Focus on learning what to expect from each wave and where the most suitable weapons are. If your strategy or position isn't working then try something else. *Onslaught was the name of a co-op PvE mode in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. 06 Store fuglar fanga ingi flugor* [Silver/30G] "Complete Nordlys** war story" In this story you play as Solveig Bjørnstad, a young woman on a personal mission to rescue a resistance fighter from a remote production facility at Rjukan in snowy southern Norway in 1943 during the German occupation. You get this trophy for finishing the war story on any difficulty. You don't need to complete all the challenges and collectibles, but if you do complete everything you'll unlock Solveig's Knife (melee weapon) for multiplayer. *The trophy name is a Norwegian proverb, literally "big birds don't catch flies" (i.e. important people are not interested in trivial matters). **In Norwegian "Nordlys" means "Northern Lights" (the Aurora Borealis). You can see these at the beginning of the prologue and during this war story. Act 1 - Still and Silent ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Solveig has a half-dozen throwing knives for silent takedowns at short range - even on Hardcore difficulty you can get a one-hit kill off a body-shot. As in multiplayer, these equip in your grenade slot so you throw them with L1 [or LB on Xbox]. You can recover your knife from a victim to use again. You still have a conventional knife for melee takedowns and binoculars for scouting areas and spotting enemies, alarms, weapon crates, etc. There are plenty of opportunities for OSP (on-site procurement) of guns too of course. There are a few points in this story where you can avoid the most obvious route and find a more stealthy alternative. I won't spoil them here since it is a fairly small level and easy to explore. At the far side of the first bridge you can find a silenced M1911 pistol - this gives a longer one-hit kill range than your throwing knives but you do need to get a headshot and your ammo is limited. The nearby watchtower has a scoped ZH-29 marksman rifle. Avoid the searchlight beams to avoid detection or just shoot out the lights. When you're sabotaging the substations watch out for the heavy who is marked with three dots when spotted - he has a flamethrower. (It werfs flammen!) Act 2 - All is Ash ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You start with only your melee knife and throwing knives in this act. The second campfire is initially obscured by terrain but you'll find it due south of the first fire. If you want to you can grab guns from the weapon crate and the two soldiers there. It is possible to die of hypothermia if you go too long without warming your hands at a campfire so move quickly to save time. Just watch out for enemy patrols ahead and try to choose routes that give you a clear line of sight. I just ran straight through the second half of the level - I figured that ought to be a good way to keep warm! Act 3 - Wolf and Dog ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You begin with an MP40 submachinegun and a couple of spare mags but remember you still have your throwing knives for stealthy ninja strats. There are three objective areas in the first section of Act 3. You can use your skis again to commute between them quicker. 1) Depot You just need to destroy the marked truck in this area. Use your binos from the hillside on your approach to spot enemies and weapon pickups. You can find dynamite for sabotage here. I entered through the shack on the north side next to the tallest tower. One of the dynamite pickups is right in front of the shack, behind the truck. From there I lured and killed a couple of guards, sneaked into the central compound and disabled the alarm. Then I was able to take a ladder up onto the warehouse roof and throw a bundle of sticky dynamite onto the back of the objective vehicle below. However it is also possible to climb onto the roof of the large structure on the east side that overlooks the area (your binoculars highlight a viewpoint on the roof). From there you can just shoot at the fuel barrels next to the south side of the truck's cabin. 2) Village Your mission here is to destroy the Statspolitiet intel files in the blue house in the centre of the picturesque village. There's a red house on the coastal road, about 250 metres north of the main village, which has a number of weapon pickups including a launcher, dynamite, an SMG, a scoped rifle and a pistol with a sound suppressor, however there are also guards and an alarm post there. You should find another suppressed 1911 on a weapon crate on the west side of the house just north of the objective. Approach past the waterwheel to get an easy stealth kill on the soldier chilling there. There are several other guards around the village so I lured them one at a time into a killing house for melee takedowns. This is risky though since they will run off to sound the alarm if they get a good look at you. In retrospect I could probably have taken out the alarm first! The objective is in the basement, accessed via a door facing the coast. After completing the objective I tried to use a truck for a daring getaway but I got killed. It worked out okay though because I respawned at a safe distance with the objective complete. 3) Docklands There are two shipments to destroy at the docks - a truck inside one of the warehouses and some barrels in the hold of a ship. The game likes to remind you that you'll need to use an explosive gadget to take out the objectives but both have convenient red barrels nearby. The watchtower to the north-west side of the compound has a Kar 98k rifle with a suppressor and a scope but you only get ten rounds. The crate on the ground there has dynamite and an SMG. I climbed up onto the roof of the warehouse with the truck. I was trying to find a sneaky entrance route and instead I found a nice vantage point from which to snipe the three guards on the ship. I could probably have done it from the jetty but the rooftop snipe gets extra style points! Watch out for guards inside the warehouse. They have good hearing so you can lure them out for silent assassinations. You can access the objective ship by approaching over the frozen water - take the ladder up and drop down into the small cargo hold. I planted dynamite and detonated it from a safe distance. After completing all three objectives you need to reach a rendezvous point - this is about 1km to the south so you'll want to ski across the frozen bay. There's a waterside complex outside the bunker. Take care here as there are several guards and it's hard to spot them with binos from the ice. The bunker entrance is at the west end of the cliffs so you can probably sneak in without attracting any attention - and without sniping everyone like I did! You might want to kill the guards though for ammo and for easy access to the weapon pickups there. The guns you have when you enter the bunker will carry through to the final phase of the mission. I'd recommend keeping a suppressed sniper rifle. You exit on a little Kettenkrad half-track and ride out onto the ice. At first I thought this was a chase mission but in fact your last objective is a small camp out on the ice with three more shipments to destroy. Although it's convenient to come prepared, it is actually possible to ride back to the bunker entrance and swap out your guns if you want. Watch out for the heavy trooper by the truck on the left side of the camp - on Hardcore diff he took multiple sniper headshots like a champ. After destroying two of the objectives I went back to the bunker to resupply on armaments. I decided to try lobbing a few shots from the Pak 40 cannon onto the final cargo by aiming very high over the objective marker. I'd just given up on this when the objective changed so maybe I landed a lucky shot?! 07 Ou La Mort* [Silver/30G] "Complete Tirailleur war story" In this story you play as Deme Cisse in a unit of Senegalese Tirailleurs fighting to retake the Provence region of south-east France in 1944. You get this trophy for finishing the war story on any difficulty. You don't need to complete all the challenges and collectibles, but if you do complete everything you'll unlock the Coupe-Coupe (melee weapon) for multiplayer. *The full French phrase "Liberté ou la Mort" means "Liberty or Death". Act 1 - Liberté* ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You're armed with the Chauchat LMG and Ruby pistol. You can swap out either weapon as usual - I replaced my sidearm with a rifle as soon as possible. You also have hand-grenades, your trusty "coupe-coupe" (machete) and of course the binoculars for looking at things. You can tapfire the Chauchat for single shots or switch to semi-auto mode by holding Triangle [or Y on Xbox]. This gives you more control and helps with conserving ammo. Try to get headshots where possible. You start with only two spare 20-round mags for the LMG but when you resupply you can carry up to six. You can pick up ammo from dead soldiers - there will be plenty of those. Your first objective is to push up through woodland. You'll need to make good use of cover as usual, dropping back to heal as soon as you take damage. I found it was useful to use a tree to block fire from a bunker MG. However you can still get killed in one shot from a rocket on Hardcore diff. :6 Sometimes you can find that "Fortune favours the bold" - if you're able to push up quickly without dying you might hit a checkpoint. Next you need to capture an objective. This works like Conquest mode so you and your comrades need to have a majority presence in the capture zone. You may find that you have to push up further to encourage them to join you. After completing the capture I upgraded to the KE7 LMG and a scoped M95. The KE7 is very effective in short bursts at mid-range so I was happy to keep it throughout the rest of the story. Your next objective is to assault north across a wide open area to destroy three field guns. The sniper rifle was pretty useful here for picking off enemies with long-range headshots, especially those on mounted weapons. You need explosives to take out your targets but I found I was able to use my hand-grenades instead of pickups. If you find a Panzerfaust launcher you can save that for the enemy vehicles in the next section. Next you'll be capturing and holding another location. During combat try not to get distracted reading the captions for Deme's philosophical musings! If you want to read them, make sure you're positioned well in cover. The Panzerfaust can be used to take out the vehicles as they approach. This must be safer than charging at them with dynamite when playing on Hardcore difficulty. Save one of the ammo crates in the base so you can resupply the launcher when it's empty. *The titles of the three acts give "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" (Liberty, Equality and Fraternity) which is the national motto of France. Act 2 - Égalité ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ At the beginning of this act you just need to reach a couple of waypoints. Combat is not mandatory here and there's a challenge for completing this section without getting detected so it must be possible to do it without detection, although not necessarily without violence. You can try sneaking down the sides although the playable area is pretty narrow and restrictive. If you do get detected you can sometimes just run and use terrain as cover to avoid taking enemy fire. If you run towards the objective, you might get lucky and hit a checkpoint. For a more action/stealth approach you can use your machete for melee take- downs and the first enemy location has a Commando Carbine available. Next you need to destroy a series of three anti-air emplacements which are all quite close together so it can play out as one long firefight. I found it was possible to take cover in front of each objective, jump up quickly to plant dynamite and then drop back down to trigger it. Your final duty is to defend some Flak 88 guns briefly. Act 3 - Fraternité ou la Mort ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ In the last act you're free to use solo stealth but you're given a flare gun to summon your Tirailleur* buddies. These reinforcements aren't much use but they can draw enemy fire off you and more importantly they drop ammo when they die - which is quite often. You start with three objectives to destroy in a small village - a tank and two field guns. If you start using stealth but you get spotted then you can either restart from the checkpoint or pop a flare to call in the boys to take some of the heat off you. There are plenty of dynamite pickups but again you can kill the guns with hand-grenades and a launcher is more convenient on the tank, especially if you decided to "go loud" in your assault. Next you proceed to the western bastion which is another Conquest capture. There's a handy track up the right-hand side of the area that makes it easier to advance to a concrete bunker inside the capture zone. However I think the MG in the bunker on the left was preventing my reinforcements from moving up so I had to cut across the front of the area and take the other bunker instead. Naturally this defensive structure is quite easy to defend. Finally you need to storm the chateau, starting with the camp outside. If you restart at the checkpoint here with low ammo you can return to the previous base and grab some from the ammo crate by the KE7 in the centre. I pushed up to the shed on the left overlooking the area and bravely camped there for a while until it got blown up. I had more success sneaking past the shed, along the grapevines and camping in a house there instead. From there I swept around the back to take out the rocket trucks. The final objective is to assault the chateau gates. There are two heavies with flamethrowers there that are bullet-sponges on Hardcore diff. Take care to keep your distance if you see (or hear) them. I peeked and sniped the rocket launcher and field gun dudes to make things easier. *In the Napoleonic era the term "Tirailleur" was used to refer to a type of light infantry. In later years the same name was applied to French colonial troops from Senegal, North Africa and French Indochina. .------------.-----------------------------------------------------------------. | Section 04 | MULTIPLAYER TROPHIES s04 | '------------'-----------------------------------------------------------------' The base game has fifteen trophies to earn in team multiplayer - more than the last few Battlefield titles, but still nothing too exciting! Unless specified otherwise, you can work toward these trophies in any of the various multiplayer team modes in the game. From May to September 2019 there was a major bug affecting multiplayer trophies for new players - trophy progress was lost whenever you quit off a server so you needed to achieve the full requirement in a single session (which was virtually impossible for some trophies). This issue was finally fixed with Update 4.4 on 3 September 2019, however you may find that some or all of your progress from before the patch is not counted. 08 Off-hand* [Silver/30G] "In multiplayer, kill 10 enemies with secondary weapons in a round" Every class is equipped with a sidearm which can be selected by tapping the Triangle button [or Y on Xbox]. Your starting pistol (heh) is the German 9mm Walther P38** which is also the default pistol for the Pilot and Tanker classes. It holds nine rounds and fires at up to 360 RPM (rounds per minute). You can view current gun stats on Sym (Symthic reborn) at: https://sym.gg/ On the in-game class progression screens it looks like the new sidearms (and new melee weapons) are unlocked separately for each infantry class as you level-up the class rank, but instead they seem to unlock with the highest rank from any class. For example I had access to the Ruby and 1911 for all classes at Assault rank 5 with Medic rank 1, Support rank 1 and Recon rank 0. Rank 3 - Ruby Rank 11 - Repetierpistole M1912 Rank 5 - M1911 Rank 15 - Mk VI Revolver Rank 7 - P08 Rank 19 - FP45 Liberator Once you have more options available you can switch to a sidearm that suits you better. Compared to the P38, the French 7.65mm Ruby fires faster and has one extra round per magazine but is slightly weaker, while the American M1911 does more damage with its heavier .45 ACP load but it fires slower and holds one less round than the P38. It would be trivial to pick up the ten required kills if you didn't need to get them all in one match! You'll need to treat your pistol as your primary weapon and try to limit yourself to short ranges in close-quarters combat in and around buildings. Try to flank the enemy, camp around objectives where you'll find more targets or go hunting for oblivious snipers. Although it has been reduced significantly for BFV, spotting still exists in the game so keep an eye on your minimap for potential victims to pursue. You can increase the minimap size in your settings. Playing as the Recon class will give you options for spotting. You can use your squad-mates as respawn points but then it's probably best to move away and play as a "lone wolf" to avoid others stealing your kills! *In shooting terminology your "off hand", "support hand" or "weak hand" is the hand you don't normally use to hold the grip and pull the trigger, so if you are right-handed it would be your left hand. ("Shooting off-hand" can also refer to firing a rifle in a standing position without any support.) **Fun fact: The Walther P38 is the pistol that Megatron transforms into. :) 09 Enemy Attrition* [Bronze/15G] "In multiplayer, get 10 kills in a round" You need to get at least ten kills in the same match for this and you should be free to use any means necessary. Stick with what works for you and what is appropriate for the current map - short/mid/long-range weapons, sidearms, melee weapons, launchers, mines, tanks, planes or some combination of these. This trophy popped for me when I had thirteen kills on the scoreboard so there must be some complication. Perhaps I'd gotten three assists with high damage that were counted as kills for the scoreboard but not for the trophy? So basically just keep trying to kill as many enemies as possible in one match until the trophy pops. If you don't get it at ten kills then hopefully it shouldn't take many more than ten. *"Attrition" was also the name used by DICE to describe the controversial concept for BFV of reducing ammo allocations and health regen in multiplayer. 10 Hoist the Flag [Silver/30G] "In multiplayer, capture 10 flags in Frontlines" The Frontlines game mode was introduced with They Shall Not Pass ("the French DLC") in BF1 but it proved so popular that it was later added for several vanilla maps and it was included in BFV at launch, both as a standard mode and as one of the various modes featured within (some) Grand Operations. The mode was previously available in BFV on a dedicated Frontlines playlist but unfortunately in May 2019 the decision was made to remove all servers for Frontlines (and Domination) due to reduced player numbers. Since December 2019 there are now three options for playing Frontlines: 1) The initial version of the long-awaited "Community Games" feature was launched on 9 December 2019. This is BFV's equivalent of previous titles' RSPs (rental server programmes) that allow players to set up their own servers, but in BFV they are not rented - you don't need to pay. Anyone can set up their own custom server by using the Create Community Game link on the Multiplayer menu and making their own config(uration) including a custom rotation from the maps and modes available. One option lets you specify the minimum number of players required before a match can begin and the smallest setting is four so it might take some time to get a Frontlines server active and you should search for existing custom servers first before making your own. Community Games can be found via advanced search (server browser) but when viewing the server list make sure that it's displaying them - you're able to toggle between showing official servers, Community Games or all (both) - on PS4 this is done by pressing the touchpad. Also it's worth checking the server rotation because it's possible to mix different modes (with the same max player count) on the same server. You might've found a server running Frontlines now but that could be followed by up to nineteen rounds of other 32-player modes like Rush, Domination, TDM and Outpost. Select a server in the search results and view its Game Info - on PS4 this is done with the Square button. When custom games were first introduced they gave no progression for Tides of War so players were much less likely to join them. However since the March 2020 update you can now earn Tides of War progress on any Community Game as long as it isn't password-protected. Hopefully this should make it much easier to find or start an active Frontlines server. 2) Matches in Grand Operations run over three or four days (rounds) with a different mode on each day and Frontlines is included on Day 3 of both the Rotterdam and France operations. Filtering by mode for Grand Ops in the advanced search (server browser) only ever gives you Airborne mode which is Day 1, however you can find other days by searching for "grand" in the server name instead. Filter on the Arras and Devastation maps and look for Frontlines if you want to join mid-round on Day 3 or filter on the Rotterdam and Twisted Steel maps and look for Breakthrough mode if you want to join on Day 2 with a full round of Frontlines to follow. (There probably won't be many options so remove any other filters like region or slots.) This was the only permanent option available from May to December but it's a slow method and you should definitely try Community Games first now. 3) Since their removal from the base game, Frontlines and Domination have been relegated to the status of "limited-time modes" just like Fortress, Rush, Grind and Outpost. That means that sometimes DICE will run official servers with one of these modes for one week only as part of the current Tides of War chapter. This can give you plenty of active servers to choose from but you can't expect any given mode to be available for more than one week per chapter so it's not really worth waiting unless you see Frontlines announced. Frontlines mode combines elements of Conquest and Rush gameplay. There's a sequence of capture points (flags) between the two team bases but only one flag can be captured at a time. After one team captures a flag, the action relocates to the next flag towards the enemy base. Once a team has captured all the flags they need to destroy objectives inside their opponents' base. The flag captures work like in Conquest - whichever team has the majority in the capture area of the flag will gradually take control. This can lead to a tug-of-war battle as players on both teams are killed and revived/respawn. The capture area is marked in pale grey on your minimap. When you're inside this area on a contested flag the capture progress will be indicated on a pie-chart at the top of the screen. You can support your team by killing enemies, reviving team-mates and potentially just by staying hidden! If you're inside the capture radius when your team completes the capture you'll get the Frontlines Capture bonus (300 pts) - I don't think it counts for the trophy if your team caps a flag in your absence. Sometimes the action will move back and forth between the same two flags because one team maintains a good presence at one flag and their opponents are strong at the other. In this case it could even be possible to get all ten captures in a single match. You can see your current Frontlines flag captures total by checking your progress towards unlocking the Frontlines dogtags. This can be viewed under Profile / Awards / Dog Tags / Game Modes off the main menu. 11 Globetrotter [Gold/90G] "Play a round of Conquest on each of the launch maps" Conquest is the classic Battlefield game mode. Two teams compete to capture and hold a number of capture points (flags) across the map. The eight multiplayer maps listed below were available at launch in November 2018 - two each set in France, the Netherlands, Norway and North Africa. (Any other maps added post-launch are not required for this trophy.) o Aerodrome The aftermath of a British attack on a German airfield at Tobruk in Libya. A central hangar is surrounded by a depot, barracks and radar station. o Arras A village surrounded by open fields of canola in the French countryside.
Fun fact: Arras is twinned with my hometown Ipswich in the UK.
o Devastation
One of two Rotterdam urban maps, this one has been ruined by bombing.
The broken structures include the railway, cinema, library and cathedral.
o Fjell 652
A snowy Norwegian mountaintop with cabins and small military outposts.
"Fjell" is actually the Norwegian word for "mountain".
o Hamada
A large map at Halfaya Pass, Egypt, with a tall viaduct and ancient ruins.
The Arabic term "hamada" denotes a rocky and eroded desert landscape.
o Narvik
A snowy Norwegian coastal town with a large train-yard and harbour.
Battles were fought in Narvik during WWII from April to June 1940.
o Rotterdam
An urban map with tall buildings, canals and an elevated railway.
The large building by the quay is the historic Witte Huis (White House),
one of the few buildings in Rotterdam that survived the German bombings.
o Twisted Steel
A rural setting around the River Escaut on the France-Belgium border.
This map takes its name from the massive destroyed metal bridge which is
the largest single structure to ever feature on a Battlefield map.
If you play a lot of Conquest, this trophy will come eventually without any
special effort. BFV lacks BF1's map voting (yay!) so there's no risk of any
map falling out of favour and never getting picked.
Otherwise it might be a good idea to make a note of which maps you've played.
You can use the advanced search (server browser) with a filter on Conquest
mode and whichever maps you need to complete your list.
You need to play the match until the end - the trophy popped for me at the
end of a round on Devastation (and I'd already played for one life in another
match on that map during testing).
12 Death from Above* [Gold/90G]
"In multiplayer, destroy 5 manned stationary weapons with a[n] Airplane"
This is easily the trickiest trophy in the base game.
The Flak 38 anti-aircraft gun and the Pak 40 and QF 6-pounder anti-tank guns
are available for use by infantry players in modes with vehicles. For this
trophy you need to destroy any five of these gun emplacements while they are
being used (by enemy players) and you are in a plane.
I don't think the options for gunners are particularly viable so you'd need
to be the pilot. It's widely recommended that you use bombs and that you
level-up your plane to unlock the biggest munitions available.
__
The Junkers Ju-88 is regarded as the best choice. Ju-88 A unlocks at multi-
player rank 8 and, like all the planes, it's faction-locked - you can only
use it when playing on the Axis side (and BFV has no option to switch teams).
The Ju-88 A starts with 4 x 250kg bombs so you can use those to start earning
some XP with the plane. Once you get it to vehicle rank 1 you can unlock the
16 x 50kg bombs which are good for farming kills on groups of infantry. Then
finally at vehicle rank 4 you can get the 1 x 1000kg bomb which is handy for
large targets like heavy tanks - and stationary weapons.
Two aircraft variants with anti-vehicle specializations were added to the
game in March 2019 in the last two weeks of Chapter 2 of 'Tides of War'. The
Ju-88 C can be upgraded with a 75mm cannon under the fuselage, while the FB
Mk.VI variant of the Mosquito can have a six-pounder anti-tank cannon and a
mighty 4000-pound (1800kg) bomb! If you missed the chance to unlock these for
free, you can buy them for 2500 CC each in the "Your Company" menu.
The smaller Fjell 652 map is often recommended for this trophy but I've also
seen votes for Arras and Narvik. It's worth taking the time while playing as
infantry to make a note of the locations of stationary weapons relative to
prominent landmarks like flags, bridges, buildings, etc.
__
One of the hardest aspects of this trophy is actually finding a stationary
weapon in use. You're not really going to be able to tell if an anti-tank
gun is occupied but at least with an anti-air gun they'll be shooting at you
so you'll know it's manned and you can trace the fire back to its source!
(However bear in mind that it could be an anti-aircraft tank instead.)
A-D-I-L_99 recommends playing on the attacking team in Breakthrough mode in
'Battle for France' (Twisted Steel and Arras) in Grand Operations. It should
be more likely for defenders to be using AA guns here.
SiriusAmory suggests using the advanced search to find Conquest matches with
fewer players. These will have a higher proportion of players in planes so
the other players will be more inclined to use AA to get some kills/XP.
You'll get the Stationary Weapon Hit bonus for damaging a turret and Enemy
Hit if there's an enemy soldier on it (or at least nearby) but it's the
Stationary Weapon Destroyed bonus that you need to get.
If no targets are presenting themselves then make yourself useful to your
team and a nuisance to the enemy team. The more infantry players you kill,
the more likely they'll be to jump on an AA gun to try to take you down!
__
Friends or team-mates can help keep you alive in the air. A good wingman in a
fighter or a tailgunner in your plane can take out enemy planes but if you're
flying solo it is possible to switch to the rear gunner seat temporarily.
Check and revise the plane control settings to whatever works best for you.
I always need Legacy sticks (roll with left stick, pitch and yaw with right)
and I use Veteran buttons (accelerate and brake with triggers). Remember that
d-pad down is always the self-repair option.
Vehicles have limited ammo supplies in BFV. In order to resupply you []
need to fly right over the special masts** marked with this icon: [][]
To make consecutive strafing runs along the same line (e.g. north to south,
then south to north) you can use an Immelmann turn to reverse direction and
gain altitude - do a half loop upwards followed by a half roll left/right.
With bombs selected in 1st-person view you can hold d-pad up for a special
targeting view. If you prefer to fly planes using the 3rd-person view that's
fine too because BFV introduced a target reticle for bombers in the external
view. You can see this most clearly if you fly high then dive downwards -
this also allows you to concentrate your fire if you're dropping several
bombs (or several types of bomb) on the same target.
__
The free update on 5 December 2018 added the Practice Range which provides a
space in which to practise shooting, driving and flying. Activate the Open
Range, go to the Airplanes marker and use the switch on the table to replace
the Spitfire with a Stuka dive-bomber. You can then take off and practise
shooting planes and bombing ground targets (two radar stations are marked).
This December patch also reduced the "health" of stationary weapons so they
should be easier to destroy now, however it did also cut the Ju-88's 1000kg
bomb payload from two to one.
*There was also a trophy called "Death from Above" in BF4 for getting a kill
with the bomber on one of the China Rising DLC maps.
**This is based on a real system that was used by the US and UK in WWII to
pick up personnel and gliders off the ground. It's a precursor of the Fulton
recovery system which you may know from Metal Gear Solid V.
13 Fender Bender [Silver/30G]
"In multiplayer, roadkill* 5 enemies"
For this one you need to kill five enemy players by driving vehicles into or
over them. You're not required to get all the kills in one match so you're
free to take as long as you want, grabbing a suitable vehicle and maybe a
couple of roadkills whenever a convenient opportunity presents itself.
Faster vehicles should be good for this so consider using the Kettenkrad
tractor (the motorcycle half-track), Universal Carrier (the small tracked
vehicle), Staghound armoured car or Kübelwagen car.
You can use any vehicle though. You could get a roadkill with a slow heavy
tank by driving over someone trying to attach dynamite or by ploughing into
a destructible wall with enemies on the other side. It's even possible to get
a roadkill with a low-flying plane, although it's a risky endeavour.
Go for large modes with plenty of vehicles on maps where there's plenty of
routes or space for driving, for example Arras, Twisted Steel or Panzerstorm.
Flanking around the borders of the map could give you the opportunity to
catch enemies unaware. Follow the flow of the match to predict where enemies
might be, for example players in Conquest will often go from capturing one
flag to take the nearest available flag.
You can see your current roadkills total by checking your progress towards
unlocking the Road Anger, Road Fury or Road Rage dogtags. This can be viewed
under Profile / Awards / Dog Tags / Vehicles off the main menu.
*Battlefield: Bad Company 2 had several fun trophies including one for
getting a roadkill while flying a helicopter. :) Battlefield Hardline had a
trophy named "Ghost Ride the Whip" for getting a roadkill after bailing out
of a hearse on the cemetery map in the Betrayal expansion.
14 Grim Reaper [Silver/30G]
"In multiplayer, kill 30 enemies"
While it's vital in team multiplayer to focus on the objectives to win - and
kills are only the actual objective in Team Deathmatch mode - killing enemies
is still a useful activity in other modes too!
Unless you play only to enjoy the scenery and sound design, it shouldn't take
too long to get this trophy. (You don't need to do it all in one match.)
15 Call 'em in! [Silver/30G]
"In multiplayer, as a squad leader call in 2 reinforcements in a round"
Every squad has a squad leader. (see Squad Orders in Section 05 below)
BFV introduced a new system whereby squads earn requisition points for their
actions. I think several scoring activities can contribute to this but you
should get more by playing together with your squad for the squad bonuses and
by issuing and completing squad orders.
The current total for your squad is shown next to the squad leader's name on
the squad list. Once you have enough points, the squad leader can use them to
buy a reinforcement for their squad/team.
You can open the reinforcements menu by holding L1+R1 [or LB+RB on Xbox]. To
request a reinforcement, select it with the right stick and keep that held
in the right direction while you release L1+R1. For most reinforcements you
then need to aim and designate a target with your trigger button but for any
vehicles they will become available from the respawn screen instead.
The menu shows the cost in requisition points for each selection but it also
shows the limits of how many of each reinforcement can be active at once, for
example "(1/2)" means the maximum is two and currently one is deployed.
The reinforcement options (for Britain and Germany*) are listed below with
their prices in requisition points (RP). The vehicular options (half-tracks
and tanks) are obviously not available in smaller infantry-only matches.
2,450 RP = supply canister airdrop (ammo and health)
7,450 RP = smoke barrage (added in March 2019)
9,850 RP = half-track tank-destroyer (T48 GMC / Sd.Kfz. 251)
17,750 RP = sector artillery (added in March 2019)
20,750 RP = heavy tank (Churchill Crocodile / Sturmtiger)
41,500 RP = flying bomb (V-1 / JB-2)
Don't expect to be able to call in two flying bombs in one match - the price
seems to be adjusted so that a decent squad should have just enough points to
have one by the end of a Conquest match. The safest option to secure this
trophy for two reinforcements in the same round is the supply drop. Not only
because it's the cheapest but also because there's no restriction on how many
can be active at the same time.
You'll need to be the squad leader to get this trophy. If there is currently
no squad order you can hold R1 [RB] for the commo-rose and use the bottom
option to request an order. If your squad leader fails to give an order then
you will take over their role.
Alternatively you can start a new squad from the pause menu. You will become
the leader automatically but ideally you should have some players join you.
As squad leader you should place squad orders on objectives. This will earn
your squad more requisition points, prevent others from stealing your squad
leadership and get lots of extra XP for you and your squad.
Follow the status of the objectives and update your orders accordingly. If
your order is on "A" but your team is failing to capture it then move it to
"B" if your team is about to take it or holding it securely. Defend orders on
friendly flags expire after a minute so you need to keep placing them.
Several of the combat roles have traits (perks) which will boost the amount
of requisition points you earn. The Medic's default Field Medic role has the
Healer trait which gives extra RP when you issue medkits. The unlockable Tank
Buster role for the Assault class includes Tank Scrapper which gives extra RP
when you destroy a vehicle and the unlockable Pathfinder role for Recon
includes Vanguard for extra RP when a player respawns on your spawn beacon.
*The Pacific content of Chapter 5 added the "Hachi" tank and Ki-147 I-Go
missile for the Japanese faction and the Sherman Calliope tank for the US.
(The Americans get the same JB-2 flying bomb as the Brits since this was
actually a US weapon system although it was never used in WWII.)
16 Combat Engineer [Silver/30G]
"In multiplayer, build 10 fortifications in a round"
BFV introduced another new game mechanic in multiplayer that lets players
build various structures known as fortifications, although you're limited to
constructing specific features in specific locations.
Players are always equipped with the standard toolbox which allows them to
construct defensive structures (e.g. sandbag walls, window boards, barbed
wire, anti-tank barriers, trenches and foxholes), traversal options (e.g.
ladders, walkways and bridges) and supply stations (health and ammo).
The Support class also has the "specialized" toolbox which allows them to
construct offensive structures (e.g. MG turrets) and also to repair vehicles.
The default Engineer combat role for the Support class includes the Vehicle
Fixer trait which lets you build fortifications (and repair vehicles) faster.
Places where you can build a fortification are only shown as pale grey areas
on your minimap but if you equip a tool (by pressing d-pad down) any nearby
fortification options will be shown as ghost outlines with a hammer icon. If
you stand near one with your toolbox selected you can hold R2 [or RT on Xbox]
to build the fortification. It's safer to strafe or go prone while building.
You need to construct ten fortifications in the same match but most maps have
dozens of opportunities so it's trivial to get the total you need, plus they
can get destroyed so you can even re-build the same ones if you want.
17 Heads Down [Silver/30G]
"In multiplayer, fully suppress 5 enemies"
Battlefield's suppression system was first introduced back in BF3. It was
intended to simulate the effect of suppressing fire* so that repeated shots
near an enemy will cause them to become suppressed (with negative effects).
In order to suppress a player you need to fire shots very close to them but
not directly at them - so you might like to test your accuracy by seeing how
long you can play *without* getting this trophy! It took me a few days. B)
In BFV you'll always get ten points for an "Enemy Suppressed" bonus as soon
as you've fully suppressed an opponent. (In previous games you only got the
"Suppression Assist" bonus which is when they get killed by a team-mate.)
Machineguns with large ammo capacities like the MG34, MG42 and Lewis gun are
great choices for suppression, although I got the trophy while using the KE7.
The unlockable Machine Gunner combat role for the Support class includes the
Bullet Storm trait that buffs the player's ability to suppress enemies, but
you don't need it for this. (It also has the Focused Fire trait which will
automatically spot (mark) an enemy player who's been fully suppressed.)
It's also possible to suppress enemies using stationary and vehicle-mounted
machineguns, for example an MG mounted on a tank.
*Here's an expert demo from Cyril in Archer. :) https://youtu.be/HSsz2tJl8rg
18 Jack of All Trades [Gold/90G]
"Earn 100,000 score as an Assault, Medic, Support and Recon"
Assault, Support, Medic and Recon (ASMR?!) are the four infantry classes.
You earn XP with whichever class you're currently using and your total score
with a class determines your rank in that class. Progressing through class
ranks unlocks primary guns, sidearms (see trophy #08), grenades, gadgets,
melee weapons, combat roles (perks) and special assignments for that class.
(Further primaries can be unlocked by completing weekly challenges as part of
the 'Tides of War' live service. Any guns you missed can be bought afterwards
with Company Coin (CC) so that's the fastest way to get new guns.)
Every primary weapon can be upgraded over four levels of specializations with
two options at each tiers for bonuses to things like magazine size, accuracy,
recoil, bullet velocity, etc. To avoid new players being disadvantaged, the
first primary in each class comes with a full set of four specs unlocked.
__
Keep in mind that your class selection will be overridden whenever you spawn
directly from the respawn screen into a new tank or plane (in which case you
get the special Tanker or Pilot class respectively). However if you spawn
into a vehicle as a passenger or spawn as infantry and then enter a vehicle,
your selected class is retained so you can earn XP for it.
You need to score 100,000 points with each of the four classes. It takes 104k
points to get one class up to class rank 11 so that makes a handy target.
If you use all four classes then this trophy will come eventually without any
special effort, but if there's a class you don't use so often then you'd need
to play it to class rank 11. (Actually more like rank 10 and four fifths!)
(See Section 05 for general tips on earning XP in multiplayer.)
You can view your stats on the in-game menus under Profile / Statistics /
Classes. These show exactly how much score (XP) you've earned in each class
and how much time you've spent playing each class - so you can work out your
score per minute (SPM). For example if you have 30,000 pts with a class after
1.5 hours (90 mins) your SPM would be 333 and it would take a further 210
minutes of playtime to earn the remaining 70,000 pts at the same rate.
You can also check your stats online here: http://www.battlefieldtracker.com
For reference I got this trophy after 23 hours of playtime, although I had
already got one class up to around 150k by then so I could've got it earlier.
Medic Class
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
In BF1 the Medic class had self-loading rifles which were suited to medium-
range engagements but a medic's place is on the front line supporting his (or
her!) team and therefore in BFV their primary weapons are now submachineguns
(SMGs) which are best suited to shorter ranges.
Your default primary weapon is the British STEN* gun. The first unlockable
SMG is the Finnish Suomi KP/-31 which fires much faster but has a lot more
recoil and a smaller mag capacity.
You can view current gun stats on Sym (Symthic reborn) at: https://sym.gg/
After BFV's launch the new weapon category of bolt-action carbines was added
for Medics. These do more damage per shot than the SMGs and are effective at
longer ranges but they fire much slower and have small magazines.
__
The default gadgets are the medical pouch ("little bag") and smoke grenade
launcher.** Throwing a bandage pouch to a team-mate will heal them (if they
are injured) and give them a pouch to heal later (if they haven't already got
one). The grenade launcher creates a thick cloud of smoke which can be used
to cover movement, assaults or revives in exposed locations. (You'll also
unlock smoke hand-grenades at Medic rank 2.)
You can unlock the medical crate and AP (anti-personnel) mine. The crate can
be dropped on the ground to provide heals and bandages after you've left the
area. In BFV it no longer has a magic passive area effect - you actually need
to interact with the crate to use it. The "Bouncing Betty" mine can be placed
and left to detonate when triggered by an enemy infantry player.
Medic is also permanently equipped with the syringe which allows the player
to revive dead comrades. This takes longer than recent Battlefield games so
make sure it's safe to spend a couple of seconds stationary before you start.
Focus on your medic role by healing and reviving your team-mates - this will
earn you tons of XP for this trophy and also really help your team. The
combination of SMGs and unlimited medic pouches makes the Medic an effective
class for close-quarters combat but its SMGs are really limited by range.
*The STEN submachinegun entered service with British forces during WWII in
1941 and over four million were manufactured. The STEN gun was named for its
designers Reginald Shepherd and Harold Turpin and for the Enfield factory.
**BFV's WWII "noob tube" is a shortened SMLE rifle with a grenade launcher
cup fitted over the muzzle. If the weapon was slightly shorter it would look
almost exactly the same as the Jawa ion blaster from Star Wars. :)
Assault Class
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The Assault class gets a mix of assault rifles and semi-automatic rifles.
Your default primary weapon is the German Sturmgewehr 1-5* assault rifle
which holds 30+1 rounds and fires at 670 RPM. The first two unlocks are the
German Gewehr 43 and the M1A1 paratrooper variant of the American M1 Carbine.
Those are both semi-autos so they fire slower and have smaller magazines but
they do more damage per shot and are better suited to longer ranges.
You can view current gun stats on Sym (Symthic reborn) at: https://sym.gg/
__
The default gadgets for Assault are the Panzerfaust anti-tank launcher and
sticky dynamite. The Panzerfaust functions like an RPG as an anti-vehicle
weapon. The dynamite can also be used to damage vehicles and fortifications
or to take out enemies behind cover.
You can unlock the PIAT anti-tank launcher, frag grenade launcher and AT
(anti-tank) mines. The spring-loaded PIAT is similar to the Panzerfaust but
more effective against infantry. Your point of aim will actually be shown on
the minimap so you can aim at a high angle to lob shots over cover.
The grenade launcher can be used to fire explosive grenades at enemies in
cover or behind corners. The AT mines can be deployed along vehicle routes to
damage/destroy enemy vehicles.
At class rank 9 you unlock the anti-tank bundle grenade which can be equipped
in your grenade slot to supplement your anti-vehicle capability.
Keep enemy vehicles in check either proactively by laying mines or reactively
by chasing after them with various explosive devices.
*Towards the end of WWII the Germans began the "primitive weapons programme"
to produce several simple "Volkssturmgewehr" firearm designs for use by a
national militia called the Volkssturm. This included around ten thousand
units of the semi-auto Gustloff Volkssturmgewehr or Volkssturmgewehr VG 1-5.
BFV has two separate versions - the semi-auto "Gewehr 1-5" and the prototype
assault rifle "Sturmgewehr 1-5". In the game's data files these are actually
labelled as the "Gustloff" and "Gustloff AR" respectively.
Support Class
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The Support class gets machineguns as usual and shotguns as well. In BFV the
MGs are divided into two separate categories for light machineguns (LMGs) and
medium machineguns (MMGs).
Your default primary weapon is the Swiss KE7* LMG which holds 25 rounds and
fires at 635 RPM (with the default "Light Bolt" specialization).
The first unlock is the German MG34 MMG. The medium MGs are heavier, belt-fed
(so they carry more ammo) and very effective when the bipod is mounted on a
ledge/fortification or on the ground when prone. However when you're not
podded you can't ADS so you're limited to very inaccurate hipfire, although
you can (and should) still use the aim button for some benefit.
The second unlock is the American "12g Automatic" shotgun (Browning Auto-5),
the same semi-auto shotgun which appeared in BF1. It holds five buckshot
shells and fires at up to 138 RPM, although you can upgrade the ammo at gun
rank 2 and buff either the mag size or fire-rate at gun rank 4.
You can view current gun stats on Sym (Symthic reborn) at: https://sym.gg/
__
Your default gadgets are the ammo pouch and AT (anti-tank) mine. The ammo
pouches can be thrown to team-mates to resupply ammunition for their primary
and secondary guns. The AT mine is the same as the Assault class.
The ammo crate, AT grenade pistol and AP (anti-personnel) mine can all be
unlocked. The ammo crate can be deployed to allow players to resupply ammo
for their guns and their gadgets (e.g. launchers). Like the Medic's crate,
this no longer has an area effect and instead players must interact directly
with the crate to use it. It resupplies one unit per gadget and then goes
into cooldown for fifteen seconds.
The AT launcher fires a shaped-charge warhead which is intended primarily as
an anti-vehicle weapon. The AP mine is the same as the Medic class.
Support is also permanently equipped with the advanced toolkit which allows
the player to build more types of reinforcements and to repair vehicles.
This is called the "support" class for a reason - help your team by giving
them ammo, laying down suppressive fire (see trophy #17) and repairing their
vehicles. Pick an explosive second gadget that will be useful.
*The KE7 was named after its designers, Pál Király and Gotthard End. It was
considered by the British as a possible replacement for the Lewis gun before
they ultimately selected the Bren gun in 1938.
Recon Class
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
The Recon class gets a selection of bolt-action and self-loading rifles.
The bolt-actions are intended for long-range sniping - they have a slow rate
of fire but high damage, enough to give a one-hit kill on a headshot. However
there is no "sweet spot" system like BF1 so you cannot get a one-hit kill on
a chest-shot on an uninjured enemy at a certain distance.
The self-loading rifles fire faster but do less damage so they are better
suited to medium-range engagements.
Your default primary weapon is the British Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.I sniper
rifle* which holds 10 rounds and can be fired at up to 72 RPM.
If you don't like long-range sniping you can customize the rifle to remove
the scope or pick up guns off dead soldiers (unlike previous Battlefields,
this doesn't change your class). In close quarters - inside buildings and
around objectives - you can try using your sidearm (see trophy #08) or the
throwing knives which can be equipped in the grenade slot.
After earning only 2500 XP with the Recon class you unlock the American
Remington Model 8 self-loading rifle which fires at up to 180 RPM (although
you need to allow some time for your aim to reset after the recoil, at least
until you unlock the first specialization). However it does less damage than
the Lee-Enfield and it only holds five rounds.
The second unlock is another bolt-action rifle - the German Gewehr M95/30.
This has a slower fire-rate and smaller magazine size than the Lee-Enfield
but it does more damage per shot (so you're more likely to finish an injured
enemy if you land a body-shot) and its bullets travel faster.
You can view current gun stats on Sym (Symthic reborn) at: https://sym.gg/
After BFV's launch the new weapon categories of anti-materiel rifles and
pistol carbines were added. The AMRs are anti-tank rifles that can be used to
damage vehicles as well as infantry but they have very slow fire-rates. In
contrast the pistol carbines shoot much faster and have larger magazines so
they're effective in close-quarters combat (for the "aggressive Recon").
__
The default gadgets are the spotting scope and AP (anti-personnel) mine. The
monocular scope can be used to "spot" enemy players (mark them for your team-
mates) and it has a range-finder. The AP mine is the same as the Medic class.
The unlockable gadgets are the sniper decoy, spawn beacon and flare gun. The
decoy is a life-sized model designed to look like a sniper but if an enemy
player shoots at it they will get spotted.
The spawn beacon can be deployed to provide an additional deployment location
for you and your squad (plus any other Recon players if they're using the
Pathfinder combat role). It should be hidden slightly away from an objective
to provide a tactical advantage without getting found. However your squad-
mates may not be aware of your beacon unless they use the Deploy Overview
respawn map (or you tell them about it).
The spotting flare has changed since BF1 - it still spots enemy players but
its radius and duration are reduced. Also it can now be fired into the air
to increase its effectiveness (although it can be shot down).
You can earn plenty of XP from spotting, beacon spawns, capturing objectives,
completing squad orders and reviving squad-mates.
*The Lee-Enfield No.4 rifle was a successor to the SMLE from WWI (and BF1).
Examples of the standard infantry rifle with superior accuracy were converted
into a sniper variant by adding a 3.5x scope and a wooden cheek-piece. The
sniper models remained in service after the standard No.4 had been replaced
by the FN FAL in 1957, although they were converted to 7.62mm NATO in 1970.
19 Eager Beaver [Silver/30G]
"Earn 150,000 score as a player"
You will get this while working towards "Jack of All Trades" (trophy #18).
The trophy popped for me just as I got a knife takedown kill so the moment
was preserved nicely on the trophy screenshot. :)
20 Elite [Gold/90G]
"Earn 500,000 score as a player"
These two trophies are based on your total XP from multiplayer matches.
The good news is that everyone will get them eventually - but players who
earn more points per minute (or per match) will get them faster.
(See Section 05 for general tips on earning XP in multiplayer.)
You can view your stats on the in-game menus under Profile / Statistics /
General. These show your overall score per minute (SPM) which is a measure
of how quickly overall you've been earning XP during play.
The class stats under Profiles / Statistics / Classes show your XP subtotals
for each class so you can work out your current infantry total from that.
You can also check your stats online here: http://www.battlefieldtracker.com
If you've been hopping between classes and already got "Jack of All Trades"
(trophy #18) then you'll have at least 400,000 pts and you should need no
more than 100,000 pts (with any class/es) to secure this "Elite" trophy.
For reference I got this trophy after 25 hours of playtime. I've seen several
reports of it not popping when it should and certainly it was quite late for
me. According to the Battlefield Wiki, you should hit 500k pts shortly after
rank 22 but I didn't get it until around rank 30. (777,500 pts total)
21 Last Man Standing [Bronze/15G]
"In multiplayer, have 3 squad members spawn on you"
A core gameplay mechanic in the Battlefield series is being able to respawn
on the other players in your squad. (For this reason it's important to try to
keep at least one person in your squad alive at all times. If all of your
squad is killed at the same time - a "squad wipe" - you will be unable to
spawn at your previous location and you might lose a tactical advantage.)
The trophy should pop on the third time a squad-mate spawns on you. You don't
even need three different people - I got it in a squad with two others.
You should probably get this trophy on your first multiplayer match - as long
as you join a squad with at least one other person in it.
22 Not On My Watch [Bronze/15G]
"In multiplayer, perform 10 squad revives"
Another new feature for BFV is the ability to revive other players in your
own squad even if you're not playing as the Medic class. This "buddy revive"
is slower than the proper Medic syringe revive but it's a handy feature.
You don't need to use the buddy revive for the trophy though. I was able to
get it while playing as Medic using the faster revive with the syringe.
In fact I don't think you're even limited to squad revives - it seems to
count revives on all team-mates. I'm pretty sure that I hadn't got ten squad
revives when it popped for me. The score feed on my trophy screenshot even
shows 100 pts for a basic revive (rather than 200 pts for a squad revive) and
both my squad-mates are elsewhere on the minimap.
Even if it's not required here, it's still generally a good idea to play with
your squad. You can all benefit from squad XP bonuses and squad orders - and
you can all use buddy revives to help get each other back in the action. This
is especially important when trying to maintain an attacking presence on the
map in Airborne mode or on a contested flag in Frontlines or Conquest.
.------------.-----------------------------------------------------------------.
| Section 05 | XP TIPS s05 |
'------------'-----------------------------------------------------------------'
Multiplayer score is required for trophies #18, #19 and #20 (see Section 04).
Here are some quick tips for maximizing your XP from multiplayer matches:
o Objective Actions
BFV encourages objective-focused play by awarding large XP bonuses for players
who successfully complete objective actions such as capturing a flag, arming
or disarming a bomb, etc. So get out there and PTFO!
Fully capturing an enemy flag in Conquest will give several hundred points
for neutralising and capturing. Killing an enemy while either you or they are
in the capture radius of an enemy flag gives you an Offensive Kill bonus of
100 pts. Similarly on a friendly flag you can get 150 pts for a Defensive Kill
bonus. It's even possible to get both at the same time!
If you want to earn some easy XP with a class you don't enjoy playing then be
sure to select it at the start of a Conquest match when you can usually get
one or two uncontested flag caps.
Checking the "Deploy Overview" map before you respawn will sometimes show an
opportunity to spawn on a squad-mate who is currently capturing a flag or
about to start capping one. (This is another good opportunity to pick up some
XP with a class you don't favour.)
o Squad Play
If you stay with your squad (the players marked green in the default colour
scheme) you'll earn additional points from certain actions such as heals,
revives, ammo resupplies, assists, etc. You even get a few points when you
spawn on a squad-mate or they spawn on you.
The introduction of the squad revive is another good reason to play together.
You can revive a dead squad-mate regardless of your class and you get a big
bonus of 200 pts for doing it too.
o Squad Orders
The squad leader - the player at the top of the squad list marked with a
diamond symbol - can place orders on objectives for their squad.
They can always place an order by opening the commo-rose by holding R1 [or RB
on Xbox] and using the bottom option to select an objective ("A", "B", etc).
Alternatively if they have the "context-based order giving" gameplay option
enabled, they can simply look at an objective and tap R1 [RB]. I disabled
this option in BF1 but with the removal of conventional spotting in BFV there
is no risk of placing orders by accident when spamming the spot button!
An order placed on an enemy objective will be an attack order - if this
objective is successfully captured/destroyed by your team then everyone in
your squad gets 100 pts for a Squad Attack bonus.
An order placed on a friendly objective will be a defend order - if this
objective remains in the possession of your team after one minute then you get
200 pts for a Squad Defend bonus. (The defend order expires so a new one
should be placed.)
Orders can be placed proactively according to what's happening around the
battlefield. If your team is about to capture an objective then an attack
order placed there before the cap is complete will give the bonus. If the
match is in a stalemate without any captures then consecutive defend orders
on friendly-held objectives will give a nice string of points.
If your squad leader isn't issuing orders you can remind them by requesting an
order with the bottom option on the commo-rose. If they still don't issue one
then you will take over as the squad leader.
A squad leader in BFV can also call in reinforcements. (see trophy #15)
o Kills
You get points for damaging and killing enemy players, but you can also get a
load of related bonuses on top.
Aside from objective and order bonuses, you can also get extra points for:
- headshot kill (killed with a headshot)
- marksman bonus (distance bonus for long-range headshot kill)
- counter-sniping (killed a Recon while playing as a Recon)
- double kill / triple kill / quadruple kill / overkill (multiple kills)
- melee kill (killed with a knife or other melee weapon)
- saviour kill (saved a team-mate from being killed)
- avenger kill (ditto but too late)
- debris kill (killed with falling debris from your explosion)
- squad wipe (removed the last surviving member of a squad from the map)
o Spots
Spotting (marking enemy players for your team) is very limited in BFV compared
to recent Battlefield titles but it can give good XP when it does happen.
You now receive 5 pts per target as soon as they are spotted. If a spotted
enemy is killed by one of your team-mates you get 50 pts for a Spot Assist
bonus - plus a further 50 pts for an Offensive Assist or Defensive Assist
if they were at an objective.
Recon players can spot with their scope or flare gadgets - or by shooting at
an enemy if they have the default Sniper combat role equipped.
Support players can spot enemies by fully suppressing them (see trophy #17)
if they have the unlockable Machine Gunner combat role equipped.
Also some vehicles can be equipped with spotting gadgets, for example the
Staghound has a spotting scope, the Panzer 38T has both a spotting scope and a
flare launcher and the Bf 109G-6 has a spotting camera.
o Vehicle Play
If you're good at using tanks or planes then they're a decent way to earn XP
but remember that spawning into a new vehicle as the driver gives you the
special Tanker or Pilot class instead of your selected infantry class.
Both can be used to take out enemy infantry and vehicles. If you don't like
driving/flying you can spawn into some vehicles as a passenger - you can be
a secondary gunner in a tank or a tail-gunner in a large plane. You can get
points for objective captures and assist bonuses off driver kills.
Even transport vehicles can be quite handy as you can move between objectives
quickly, getting several flag caps in a short period of time. The driver can
look for opportunities to pick up cheeky roadkills too.
o Counter-Vehicle Play
Attacking enemy vehicles can give points for Vehicle Hit, Vehicle Destroyed,
Engine Disabled, Turret Disabled, Track Disabled, Wing Damaged, etc.
That's in addition to the potential kill or multi-kill on the crew too. BFV
introduced vehicle exit animations so it takes longer to get out of a vehicle
and therefore you're more likely to get kills as a vehicle hunter.
The Assault class has a wide selection of things that go boom but the Support
class also has the AT mines, AT grenade launcher and sticky grenade.
o Gadgetry
Make good use of the gadgets in your loadout and if necessary switch them up
for something more useful in the current situation.
The Medic class should be reviving and healing team-mates. The smoke launcher
doesn't give points directly but it can make it safer to revive out of cover.
The Assault class should mainly be blowing stuff up as mentioned above.
The Recon class can earn points for assisting the team by spotting enemies and
deploying the spawn beacon in useful locations.
The Support class should primarily be resupplying ammo but they can also help
by suppressing enemies, repairing friendly vehicles and attacking enemy ones.
Remember to resupply your gadgets whenever you're at an ammo station or you
see an ammo box dropped by a Support player. Thanks to BFV's attrition system,
you don't have your maximum amount of ammo *or* gadgets when you spawn - so
load up if you have the chance before entering the fray.
o Fortifying
Most maps have dozens of locations where you can build fortifications (see
trophy #16). It would be no fun to spend the whole match making these but you
can do a couple while you're capturing an objective for example.
You don't get many points for your construction efforts - only about 20 pts
per object but you get around 40 pts for building an ammo or medical station
at an objective. When you equip your toolbox (d-pad down) the minimap will
indicate the wooden pallet/s where these can be constructed.
o Special Assignments
After selecting them on the Assignments screen, you can work towards up to
four special assignments at once. These mostly give you Company Coin (CC) or
unlock clothing and gun parts (and more assignments) but I had a WWI-themed
assignment called "Honoring the Past" with a reward of 15,000 XP.
This required the shovel (melee weapon) which unlocks at class rank 12.
