If you are reading this, then this is my first accepted guide. I have done a guide before, but it wasn't accepted :(. But enough of that, this guide should help you get better at playing Rock Band or help you make the transition to playing Hard/Expert by giving a few tips, prepare you for what tour challenges you have ahead of you, or just preview what songs await to try to frustrate you to no end. Most of what you need to help you is here, and I'll do my best to add more when more comes up. ~SlurptasticJive ============ II. UPDATES: ============ VERSION DATE AND DESCRIPTION 0.15 October 7th, 2008 +Started the guide off, just added the songs in, basic structure, all that fun junk. I probably should add the 20 free, but my copy of Rock Band 2 is unplayable. :( 1.10 January 31st, 2009 +Added the 20 Bonus DLC. ================ III. THE BASICS: ================ Well, if you played Rock Band 1, you can probably breeze through this section and not miss anything. If you're new to the game, or need help playing a certain instrument, well, keep reading. --------------- a. Guitar/Bass: --------------- Guitar is the most popular instrument in rock music. And I can only assume that you have played this instrument on Rock Band 2. If you don't know how it works, you have 5 coloured fret buttons, and a strum bar. Once a note on the screen scrolls past a coloured fret button, while holding that fret button, you must strum that note. Simple enough. There are also notes that you have to hold, denoted by lines continuing on from the notes. You can use the whammy bar for these notes for a slight note distortion, or when it's glowing, to increase overdrive gain. Any glowing notes, if all hit in sequence, will give you overdrive. Overdrive will be explained further in the "d. Overdrive" section, but to activate it, you tilt your guitar up (or press "Back/Select", but that's less dramatic :P) to rock harder. If you keep hitting notes, you will get a score multiplier of x2, x3 or x4 (could be more depending on the circumstances as well). Solo Sections: While playing guitar, depending on the song, you may come across a solo section. You'll know because the background is blue and there will be a percentage to monitor your progress in that solo. If you are using the Stratocaster guitar included with Rock Band 1/2, you can use the solo buttons now to pick the solo and not have to strum (not recommended on expert unless you really know the solo... or it's Give It Away). As well, you will get a bonus for completing as much as possible of the solo. You need to hit at least 60% for the bonus to register, and the bonus will grow if you hit at least 70%, 80%, 90% or perfect. Unfortunately, the bass has no solos, but instead... Bass Groove: It may not be as glamourous, but it will rack up the points. If you can get a note streak of 40, you will enter Bass Groove, where the fretboard will light up a tint of blue, and you will have a 5x note multiplier. 50 note streak, and the multiplier grows to 6x. Keep it going as much as possible for high scores galore! Advanced: When explaining how to do better on certain sections, I will designate a number to each finger. Your index will be 1, middle will be 2, ring will be 3, and pinky will be 4. Just keep it in mind for positioning sake. "That Dreaded Orange Fret..." Wanting to move from Medium to Hard, but can't get used to that orange fret? I had that same problem as well. But here are some easy tips to make it easier to transition. First of all, position your index (1) finger on the red fret, not the green fret. It's much easier to slide your index than pinky. Secondly, learn to slide. I don't do a full-hand slide myself, instead using the index to press both buttons when needed, but if it's easier for you, learn to do a full-hand slide. After that, all you can do is practice. "These notes are coming too fast!" Well then young one, you need to learn to alternate strum. Alt strumming is when you strum both up and down, instead of just down strumming. It's great for long sequences of notes where you get tired if you just downstrum (I'm looking at you, Panic Attack), or if it's just too fast to downstrum, no matter how short it is. Practice on a song like "Hello There", it's short, its not hard, and will give you good practice. ---------- b. Vocals: ---------- This will be the most natural for anyone. Pretty much, to perfect it, you just need to learn how to follow the song's pitch. You don't have to be in the same octave, just the same note. On screen, there will be an arrow, which will tell you where your voice currently sits, and a green line, telling you where it needs to be. The lyrics will also be below, in a seperate box, and the correct word will be with its corresponding pitch. If you hit a phrase correctly, your phrase will be rated "Awesome!" and your multiplier will raise. As well, to activate overdrive, just yell when there's a yellow backing. Percussion: There will be solo sections, where you will see circles in the centre of the note bar. Those are percussion notes. You can either hit your microphone or press the A (X on PS3) button on the controller to hit these notes. They are not required though, so if you're Voxtaring (Vocals/Guitar combo) it, don't worry. The points you can get though are great, so if you're solo vocaling it, or in a band, go for the 100%. Talkies: If you see lyrics, but no pitch, consider yourself lucky! These are talkie sections, and they are really easy to hit. Either say the lyrics, or scream or something to hit these, 100% of the time, it will register. Advanced: Sometimes, the best way to do good on a song is to know a song. Having trouble? Put a song on your MP3 player or computer and sing to it. It will help. Also, start singing to the pitch of the note one second before it comes up. It will make sure that you hit the note before it comes to you. You don't need to say the right word either, so if there's a sequence where you need to keep the same tone, you can hum it to keep it at that tone. --------- c. Drums: --------- The rhythm keeper of a band, drums are, to people like me, the hardest instrument to pick up, while others (like my younger brother) can easily master the expert difficulty. You have 4 pads, each representing a drum, as well as a bass pedal. On screen, each of the 4 pads will have it's own coloured note to represent it, and the bass pedal will be represented by an orange bar. Basically, hit whatever note sequence that appears at that moment. To activate overdrive when you get it, you have to do a drum fill, which is basically a small timing window where you can go nuts! But to have overdrive activate, you must hit the green note to activate it (it's not required though). "Drum Fill Cheating" Well, not exactly cheating, but it can allow you to skip some challenging fill sections. Fill your overdrive bar, and when the freestyle drum fill comes up, do whatever you want but DO NOT hit green. You can skip a lot of challenging parts, and keep overdrive until you really need it. It helped me get 52% of the way through Tom Sawyer on Expert. ------------------------------------------ d. Overdrive (and getting the most of it): ------------------------------------------ So, you have overdrive. Chances are, by now, you know how to use it, in the technical sense. But do you know how to use it at your best? A technical term used by more technical RB players (yay redundancy) is "Optimal Overdrive Path". Now, I'm not going to tell you the OOP of every song. Instead, I'll give you general rules to get the most out of your overdrive: -Do... 1. Wait until you get a full overdrive bar. 2. Wait for a long, fast strum sequence. 3. Use when chords are plentiful. -Don't... 1. Use in segments where you aren't confident you'll hit most of the notes. 2. Use before long held notes. Those are general notes I follow myself. You can send me more tips if you think they will help as well, but these are simple enough to remember for any player. ----------------------- e. Basic Mode Overview: ----------------------- I won't go into too much detail here, but I will list all the modes and what their purpose is. i. Quickplay Quite obvious. Here's where you want to go if you just want to play a song. As well, you can play both Score Duel and Tug Of War 2-player faceoff modes. You get the option to play local or online for all modes. ii. THE SONGS: ============== Well, in this game, there are 84 songs: 75 main setlist songs, and 9 bonus songs. There are 7 tiers of 12 songs, varying from Warm-Up, Apprentice, Solid, Moderate, Challenging, Nightmare and Impossible. You can also sort songs by genre, year of recording, alphabetically by song or by band. I'll be sorting by band difficulty myself, counting down from 84 to 1. If the song is difficult enough, I'll throw up tips (except for drums, as said, I can't do those) and bad commentary. All tips are assuming you play expert, by the way. Oh, I know a lot of songs went uncommented. There's nothing special that I could say about it. ----------- a. On Disc: ----------- 84 Survivor - "Eye of the Tiger" Difficulty Band: Guitar: Drums: Vocals: oo Bass: Comments: It's not as easy as the tierings say. It's still badass. 83 Lit - "My Own Worst Enemy" Difficulty Band: Guitar: Drums: Vocals: Bass: Comments: Oh yeah, easiest song on the game, tier-wise. Brings back memories of the days when I listened to the radio a lot, I loved this song. 82 Social Distortion - "I Was Wrong" Difficulty Band: Guitar: o Drums: Vocals: Bass: oo 81 Beastie Boys - "So What'cha Want" Difficulty Band: Guitar: Drums: o Vocals: oo Bass: Comments: I call this song, "Free Achievements". You can get both Flawless Groove and Flawless Singing even if you're an easy player with this song, even at the same time. Flawless Fretwork isn't too hard on this either. 80 Beck - "E-Pro" Difficulty Band: Guitar: o Drums: oo Vocals: oo Bass: Comments: Na na, na na na na na na... good stuff. Harder on vocals than advertised. Drum solo too. 79 Duran Duran - "Hungry Like the Wolf" Difficulty Band: Guitar: Drums: Vocals: Bass: o Comments: Fun song for any instrument, despite the low difficulty. Especially vocals. 78 L7 - "Pretend We're Dead" Difficulty Band: Guitar: Drums: o Vocals: Bass: o Comments: They practically are dead, the way they are singing... 77 Bikini Kill - "Rebel Girl" Difficulty Band: Guitar: Drums: Vocals: o Bass: o Comments: I've managed to avoid this song, somehow. 76 Panic at the Disco - "Nine in the Afternoon" Difficulty Band: Guitar: o Drums: Vocals: oo Bass: o Comments: Harmonix will not be held liable for any bottles thrown at your head in the process of playing this song. 75 Modest Mouse - "Float On" Difficulty Band: Guitar: Drums: Vocals: o Bass: Comments: Good song. Pleasant surprise. 74 Nirvana - "Drain You" Difficulty Band: Guitar: o Drums: oo Vocals: o Bass: o Comments: The trills pre-solo will catch you off guard. Well, not anymore, but they did surprise me. 73 Interpol - "PDA" Difficulty Band: Guitar: ooo Drums: ooo Vocals: ooo Bass: o Comments: Well, that tiering doesn't look right, Harmonix. Anyways, good song, easy to get 200k+ on. 72 Alice in Chains - "Man in the Box" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: o Drums: o Vocals: Bass: Comments: The solo is pretty tough, for a Tier 2 guitar song. Vocals harder than advertised as well. 71 Squeeze - "Cool for Cats" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: Drums: o Vocals: Bass: ooo Comments: Don't expect much on guitar. 70 Cheap Trick - "Hello There" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: o Drums: o Vocals: Bass: ooo Comments: Shortest song on the game. A lot of fast strumming, but it will get you through the WT Create-a-Setlists easier. 69 Smashing Pumpkins - "Today" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: Drums: oo Vocals: o Bass: oo Comments: Good song for the Flawless Fretwork achievement. 68 Paramore - "That's What You Get" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: Drums: o Vocals: oooo Bass: Comments: This song is HARD on vocals, at least for a guy. Another easy Flawless Fretwork song though. 67 Norman Greenbaum - "Spirit in the Sky" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: oo Drums: o Vocals: Bass: Comments: Fun song, and odd fact. This song was on the list of banned songs with questionable lyrics after 9/11. Why? It's about Jesus and how he'll go to Heaven after death. Sorry, small gripe. 66 The Go-Gos - "We Got the Beat" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: Drums: ooo Vocals: Bass: ooo Comments: Drum solo. That's about all that I find interesting about this song. 65 The Donnas - "New Kid in School" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: o Drums: Vocals: ooooo Bass: o Comments: Hard on vocals. Odd chords as well. 64 Dinosaur Jr. - "Feel the Pain" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: oo Drums: oo Vocals: o Bass: oooo 63 Elvis Costello - "Pump It Up" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: oo Drums: ooo Vocals: o Bass: o 62 Linkin Park - "One Step Closer" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: Drums: ooo Vocals: oooo Bass: Comments: This song brings back memories. It's easy, but will cramp up the fingers with the constant chord changes. 61 The Libyans - "Welcome to the Neighborhood" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: oo Drums: ooo Vocals: ooo Bass: o Comments: A lot of chords, not a lot of fun. Although it's good to practice alt strumming. 60 Billy Idol - "White Wedding Pt. 1" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: o Drums: o Vocals: ooooo Bass: ooo Comments: This song will take practice on vocals. If you can't sing that low, remember to sing one octave higher while still hitting the correct note. 59 Talking Heads - "Psycho Killer" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: oo Drums: Vocals: ***** Bass: ooo Comments: It's an easy song to play on any instrument that isn't vocals. It's not too frustrating on vocals, but there are sequences where you can fail. If you don't know French, just hum the French verse. 58 Presidents of the United States of America - "Lump" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: o Drums: ooooo Vocals: Bass: oooo Comments: The bass chart is very similar to the guitar chart, same chords, and its frustrating. Otherwise, simple song. 57 Speck - "Conventional Lover" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: oo Drums: oo Vocals: oo Bass: oo Comments: An odd song that probably is best not being played often. 56 Lush - "De-luxe" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: ooo Drums: ooo Vocals: oo Bass: Comments: A lot of strumming in patterns, but none of the patterns are too unique to do any harm. 55 Bad Company - "Shooting Star" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: ooo Drums: Vocals: o Bass: oo Comments: It's slow enough during the verses for the odd strum patterns to actually make the song that much more fun. And the solos, while not blistering, are fun too. 54 Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Give it Away" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: oo Drums: o Vocals: ooooo Bass: oooo Comments: Easy guitar solos, making for a good song for the Flawless Solo achievement. Otherwise, guitar isn't that hard either. Bass is really fun though. Vocals are easier than they appear, but the last line makes it harder to get perfect on than other talky songs. 53 Jimmy Eat World - "The Middle" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: ooo Drums: ooo Vocals: ooo Bass: oo Comments: A lot of easy strumming, making this a good song to practice alt strumming. Solo is a tricky one though. Vocally easy enough. 52 The Guess Who - "American Woman" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: o Drums: oooo Vocals: ooo Bass: o Comments: Vocals are the hardest from this song, actually. Still a great song, especially on vocals. 51 Bon Jovi - "Livin' on a Prayer" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: ooo Drums: Vocals: oooo Bass: oooo 50 Blondie - "One Way or Another" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: ooo Drums: oo Vocals: ooo Bass: ooo Comments: I actually like singing this song. 49 The Main Drag - "A Jagged Gorgeous Winter" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: oo Drums: oooo Vocals: oo Bass: oo Comments: A lot of small breaks for the guitarist. Not a bad song though. 48 Fleetwood Mac - "Go Your Own Way" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: oo Drums: o Vocals: ooo Bass: ooo 47 The Muffs - "Kids in America" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: oo Drums: ooooo Vocals: Bass: ooo Comments: I would have prefered the Kim Wilde version. 46 AFI - "Girls Not Grey" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: ooo Drums: ooo Vocals: ooo Bass: oooo Comments: Odd strum pattern that will take a while for you to get used to, otherwise, there's not much else holding you back. 45 Silverspun Pickups - "Lazy Eye" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: oo Vocals: Bass: o Comments: Long song, but a decent solo. Have only done it twice, but wasn't completely bored in the process. 44 The Offspring - "Come Out & Play (Keep 'em Separated)" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: oooo Drums: ooo Vocals: ooooo Bass: Comments: Vocals are a lot easier than advertised. You'd think there'd be a pitch. 43 Jane's Addiction - "Mountain Song" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: o Drums: oooo Vocals: oooo Bass: oooo 42 Mighty Mighty Bosstones - "Where'd You Go" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: oooo Drums: oo Vocals: o Bass: oooo 41 The Replacements - "Alex Chilton" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: ooo Drums: oooo Vocals: oo Bass: oooo 40 Steve Miller Band - "Rock'n Me" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: o Vocals: ooo Bass: ooo Comments: Fun chord-to-single note hammer-on sequence that is really fun. 39 Bob Dylan - "Tangled Up in Blue" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: ooo Drums: Vocals: ***** Bass: oo Comments: Annoying to play, it's a marathon of continous notes. Vocalists, do not try to sing it exactly the same, it could hurt you more than help. 38 Pearl Jam - "Alive" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: ooo Drums: ooo Vocals: ooo Bass: ooo 37 Ratt - "Round & Round" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: oooo Drums: oo Vocals: oooo Bass: 36 Alanis Morissette - "You Oughta Know" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: oo Drums: ooo Vocals: ooooo Bass: ooooo Comments: Don't let the fact that this song is by Alanis Morissette scare you, it's actually a really fun song. Especially on bass. 35 The Grateful Dead - "Alabama Getaway" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: oooo Vocals: ooooo Bass: o 34 Rage Against the Machine - "Testify" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: oooo Drums: oooo Vocals: oooo Bass: ooooo Comments: Alternate strum time. It's a fun song despite all the strumming that needs to be done. All talkies on vocals makes for even more fun too. 33 The Sterns - "Supreme Girl" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: ooo Drums: oooo Vocals: ooo Bass: ooo 32 The Who - "Pinball Wizard" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: oooo Drums: ooooo Vocals: ooo Bass: ooo Comments: This song has a fast, somewhat complicated sequence during the verses that takes a lot of time to get used to. Vocally, a bit challenging as well, and drums, as with a lot of The Who songs, are fun, but still challenging. 31 Lacuna Coil - "Our Truth" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: o Drums: oooo Vocals: ooooo Bass: ooooo 30 Devo - "Uncontrollable Urge" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: oooo Drums: oooo Vocals: ***** Bass: ooooo Comments: Fun song on vocals, but isn't as hard as it is placed. Guitar is fun too. 29 Joan Jett - "Bad Reputation" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: ooo Drums: ooooo Vocals: oooo Bass: ooo Comments: A good song to practice alternate strumming. As well, it's a decently difficult song on vocals, but fun too. 28 Bang Camaro - "Night Lies" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: oooo Drums: ooo Vocals: oo Bass: oooo Comments: Meh. A song that bores me. 27 Journey - "Any Way You Want It" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: oooo Drums: ooo Vocals: ooooo Bass: oooo Comments: Really fun song. You shouldn't miss a note until the first solo. The solos are hard to get perfect on, but really hard to fail too. Vocals are amazing on this song too. 26 Sonic Youth - "Teenage Riot" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: ***** Vocals: o Bass: ooo Comments: This song is 4 minutes longer than it should be. A lot of chords, but an easy high score no matter what instrument. 25 Guns N' Roses - "Shackler's Revenge" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: oo Vocals: oo Bass: oooo Comments: This song can be a pain if you let it be. On a positive note, hammer- ons and pull-offs are everywhere. But the solo is hard. 24 ACDC - "Let There Be Rock" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: oo Vocals: oooo Bass: oo Comments: LET THERE BE STRUMMING! THERE WAS STRUMMING! Alternate strumming is a must on this song, especially the third solo. But guitarists get nice breaks, while the bassist and drummer get to play the same repetitive thing. 23 Rush - "The Trees" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: ***** Vocals: ***** Bass: ooooo Comments: Drum solo! Although not one you'd expect from Peart with solos like Tom Sawyer. Easy on guitar, fun on vocals as well. What other song lets you sing about trees arguing? 22 Jethro Tull - "Aqualung" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: ooo Drums: ooooo Vocals: oooo Bass: ooooo Comments: Fun song, takes a while to get down on Vocals. It isn't very hard though. 21 Disturbed - "Down with the Sickness" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: oooo Drums: ooooo Vocals: ***** Bass: ooooo Comments: Easy on guitar, just a lot of painful chord changes. Vocals are also easier than advertised, but the "Will you give it to me?" lines cause a lot of messy phrases. Nothing that will fail you though. 20 System of a Down - "Chop Suey" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: oooo Vocals: ***** Bass: ***** Comments: All I can say is that this song is a pain in the ass. Really fast chord-single note transitions that will kill your timing and combos, as well as a lot of sections which require alternate strumming. Vocals aren't as bad as the tiering says, as long as you can keep the same tone. Tips: I'm assuming you're going to have trouble with the following section: [][][][][][][][][][] [] [] [] [] [] Well, there's a trick I like to use to keep timing. On the up-strum, strum the chord, while on the down-strum, strum the second note. It takes a bit of practice, but it helps loads. 19 Foo Fighters - "Everlong" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: oooo Drums: ***** Vocals: oo Bass: ooo Comments: You're going to need to learn to love this song, because you'll be playing it a lot. Lots of chord changes, and it's similar to, but not as hard as Run To The Hills on drums from Rock Band 1. 18 Tenacious D - "Master Exploder" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: ***** Drums: ooooo Vocals: ***** Bass: o Comments: Unfortunately, you do need a microphone. Guitar isn't too hard, but the chord changes in the main riff are just brutal if you aren't prepared. Vocals are hard, as expected, but if you know what you're doing, you won't fail. Tips: Guitar: Okay, chances are, you won't fail this song first time if you haven't been having trouble to this point. But if you can't get those chord changes down, then practice them, and remember, they aren't as fast as they seem. Breakneck speed, believe it or not, helps. Vocals: This song requires you to hold notes a lot, which for some, is troublesome if they want to stay at the same note. Unless you're showing off though, the same effect can be had by humming. The only hard part is hitting those first two notes. It's seperated into two, so take a breath on the short transition, and practice this line as much as possible. 17 Rise Against - "Give it All" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: oooo Drums: ***** Vocals: oooo Bass: oooo Comments: Frustrating strum pattern makes this hard to 4 or 5 star. It isn't hard though. 16 Kansas - "Carry On Wayward Son" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: o Vocals: ***** Bass: ***** Comments: One of the most fun songs on the game. Vocally, you need to be more powerful than you're used to, especially with the chorus. You'll get this off the bat with the intro. Guitar is loads of fun though, lots of solos, nothing is ever the same. 15 That Handsome Devil - "Rob the Prez-O-Dent" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: oooo Drums: ooooo Vocals: oooo Bass: ooooo Comments: Lots of changes in tempo, this song is a combo breaker. It's amusing though, I like the concept of walking into the White House with a 12-gauge and robbing the President. (Note to Secret Service: Not that I would ever try that) 14 Soundgarden - "Spoonman" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: ooooo Vocals: ***** Bass: ooooo Comments: Well, if you do vocals, be warned beforehand that the first line can, and if you're not prepared, will fail you. Hardest song on vocals for me. As for the other instruments, not so hard. Drum solo after the guitar solo. 13 Motorhead - "Ace of Spades '08" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: ooooo Drums: ***** Vocals: ooo Bass: ***** Comments: Get used to the odd patterns on both Guitar and Bass, otherwise, you won't have much trouble. I suppose it's hard on Drums too. 12 Avenged Sevenfold - "Almost Easy" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ooooo Drums: ooooo Vocals: ooooo Bass: ooooo Comments: This song is almost easy. Vocals take a bit to get used to. Guitar isn't too complicated, but it mixes it up with some sped up sections, and a challenging solo. Fun song. 11 Allman Brothers - "Ramblin' Man" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: ooooo Vocals: ***** Bass: ***** Comments: The strum rhythm for guitar is a bit odd to get used to, but that's the only thing that is hard about it. Everything isn't as hard as the tierings say. 10 Anarchy Club - "Get Clean" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: oooo Vocals: ooooo Bass: ooooo Comments: The song may say "Get Clean" but that solo sounds messy. 9 Megadeth - "Peace Sells" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: ***** Vocals: oo Bass: ***** Comments: Holy crap. This song is hard through and through. So many mini-solos that have the ability to make you fail (even one right off the start of the song). Hell, bass isn't any easier, that intro is a pain. Do some segments remind anyone of Cliffs of Dover? Tips: Guitar/Bass: The main tip that is adaptable to both Guitar and Bass is to practice the one sequence where the notes are all over the place (or the one that reminds me of Cliffs of Dover). On Bass, you get it on the intro, and on Guitar, it doesn't kick in until after the line, "Can you put a price on peace?" For guitar as well, keep overdrive for the solos, and move those fingers fast. 8 Mastodon - "Colony of Birchmen" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: ***** Vocals: ***** Bass: ooooo Comments: A lot of alt strumming here, and a good solo. Challenging, but nothing that will cause you to fail. Vocals are also easier than the tierings say. 7 Testament - "Souls of Black" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: ooooo Vocals: ooooo Bass: ***** Comments: A cool song, but one I forget about often. Some challenging solos, and it can catch you with your pants down. Nevertheless, a good song. 6 Steely Dan - "Bodhisattva" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: ooooo Vocals: oo Bass: ***** Comments: Think of a shortened "Green Grass and High Tides". Two fun, but hard solo sections, as well as the most odd part in the game: the chord hammer-on sequence in "Fast Picking". Also, hardest percussion solo in the game. Tips: Well, you shouldn't have trouble with Bass, but with guitar, there are many places where you can fail. The one a lot of people have trouble with, causing angry failures would have to be the triplet sequence at the end of Solo 2. Keep overdrive as a back-up, but you want to shift your 1 finger to the yellow fret, so you'll be hitting the triplets 1-2-3, instead of 2-3-4. It will make things much easier. The trills after aren't as hard, but in case, hit those 1-2 at all times, and hold your 1 finger on the fret. 5 Breaking Wheel - "Shoulder to the Plow" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: ***** Vocals: o Bass: ***** Comments: ALTERNATE STRUM. That is what will help you get through this song. The solo isn't easy either, but the rest of the song won't hurt too much. 4 Metallica - "Battery" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: ***** Vocals: oooo Bass: ***** Comments: This song is really annoying to play. All the fast strumming and chord changes make for a great finger killer. Drums are just frightening too, all that bass pedal is a calf killer. 3 Abnormality - "Visions" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: ***** Vocals: o Bass: ***** Comments: This song is evil. Even though it isn't the hardest ranked in any instrumental category, it is, by most, the hardest guitar and drum songs. Vocals are fun though. Tips: Guitar/Bass: Well, I'll be honest, the best I've done on this song is 80%. It passed me though, so it works. DO NOT STOP STRUMMING AT ALL COSTS. Unless you know you can hit all those hammer-ons, keep strumming. This is even more important when you get to the faster sequences where there's a fast strum sequence, then four notes going up then down the fretboard. For the last minute as well, have overdrive to save your ass as well. 2 Dream Theater - "Panic Attack" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: ***** Vocals: ooooo Bass: ***** Comments: My favourite song on the setlist. Also, one of the hardest. There are a lot of places to fail (everywhere on the drums) and even on vocals, it's still a challenge. BTW, what's with the cowbell during the solo? Tips: Guitar/Bass: I'm assuming you can get the main riff down because you've gotten to this point. The tricky part begins once you get to the pre-solo/keyboard solo backing riff. The riff gets reversed, so you can't just hold down green, and will have to practice to get the timing down there. Try to save overdrive until you get to the solo (by the time you get to the second riff, that is, there are many opportunites for overdrive), and you should have no problem getting to the finish. Bass is about the same thing, but you wouldn't have to worry about the Petrucci solo (although you do get a kickass Myung intro). 1 Judas Priest - "Painkiller" Difficulty Band: ***** Guitar: ***** Drums: ***** Vocals: ***** Bass: ***** Comments: The final song on Rock Band 2. It's effectively easy to get intimidated by the song, but really, it could be worse. On guitar, first solo is what you should be worried about, the rest isn't any harder than any other song. Vocalists get a workout too, you need a high voice and you need to be able to hold long notes. The last note is 20 seconds long! Tips: Guitar: Okay, alternate strumming is key for the pre-solo. As long as you can hit the ascending 1(4x)-2(4x)-3(4x) notes and stay in green, you will be fine going into the rest of the solo, as the triplets that follow will be simple. The first solo is the only place you should keep overdrive for. You can use it at the start of the solo and still get more, by the way, there are a lot of breaks in the solo. ---------------- b. 20 Bonus DLC: ---------------- The only reason I'm including this DLC is because it technically came with the game. A few notes about them first of all; you need Xbox Live to download the tracks (XBL Silver will work), and you either take all of the tracks or none of then. They come in a 540.73 MB file. Also, they can be used on RB1 like any other DLC. I will sort it in no particular order. 1 Between the Buried and Me - "Prequel to the Sequel" Difficulty Band: ooooo Guitar: ***** Drums: ***** Vocals: Bass: ***** Comments: My favourite of all the free DLC, but many of you won't agree. Not as hard as it's listed, but you'll still be challenged. Especially on drums. Vocals are easy and fun though (even if you don't like death vocals). 2 X-Japan - "I.V." Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: ooo Drums: oooo Vocals: o Bass: o Comments: Drums are harder than advertised. Also, guitar is ever changing and very interesting. A very fun song, and my second favourite of the pack. 3 Endeverafter - "I Wanna Be Your Man" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: oooo Drums: oooo Vocals: oo Bass: oooo Comments: This is the hardest guitar song in the pack, despite the tiering. The solo in the song is insane, and is like a shorter Mosh 1 on steroids. Good song though. 4 Authority Zero - "No Regrets" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: ooo Drums: ***** Vocals: ooo Bass: ooooo Comments: Despite being a punk song, that bassline sounds like something out of King Crimson. Fun song though, combo breaker on guitar. 5 Shaimus - "Like a Fool" Difficulty Band: ooo Guitar: ooo Drums: oooo Vocals: oooo Bass: oooo Comments: A song that I find boring. You might like it. Oh well. 6 The Cab - "Bounce" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: Drums: ooo Vocals: o Bass: 7 Opiate for the Masses - "Burn You Down" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: oo Drums: o Vocals: Bass: Comments: An odd song, by a (possibly) Marxist band. Anywho, a lot of pauses on every instrument, but a fun guitar solo which will catch you off guard. 8 Thenewno2 - "Crazy Tuesday" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: o Drums: oo Vocals: oo Bass: 9 Dealership - "Database Corrupted" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: Drums: ooo Vocals: o Bass: 10 Underoath - "Desperate Times, Depserate Measures" Difficulty Band: oooo Guitar: oooo Drums: oooo Vocals: oo Bass: o Comments: In my opinion, not a fun song at all. Guitar is a bit challenging, but nothing special. 11 The Chevelles - "Get It On" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: ooo Drums: ooo Vocals: oo Bass: oo Comments: Not a bad song, upbeat and fun. A good solo too. One of the more surprising songs of this pack. 12 Cocktail Slippers - "Give it to Me" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: oo Drums: oo Vocals: ooo Bass: oo 13 Lesley Roy - "I'm Gone, I'm Going" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: Drums: ooo Vocals: oo Bass: o Comments: For this pack, this song is a guilty pleasure. Nothing interesting though. 14 The Len Price 3 - "If I Ain't Got You" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: o Drums: oo Vocals: oo Bass: o 15 Ghost Hounds - "Ashes to Fire" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: o Drums: ooo Vocals: oo Bass: o Comments: A fun song. I like it despite its simplicity. 16 Semi Precious Weapons - "Magnetic Baby" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: oo Drums: ooo Vocals: Bass: o Comments: *puts on earplugs* Ugh... 17 The 88 - "Sons and Daughters" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: oo Drums: ooo Vocals: ooo Bass: o Comments: 18 Kutless - "The Feeling" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: ooo Drums: oooo Vocals: o Bass: ooooo Comments: Not a bad song actually. Catchy, upbeat, and everchanging. 19 Tickle Me Pink - "The Time is Wrong" Difficulty Band: oo Guitar: ooo Drums: ooo Vocals: oo Bass: o Comments: I don't know what emo is anymore... Anyways, odd vocals, but not bad guitar and a decent song. 20 Hollywood Undead - "Young" Difficulty Band: o Guitar: o Drums: ooo Vocals: oo Bass: o Comments: Horrible vocals, but fun guitar. You can't win them all. =================== V. BAND WORLD TOUR: =================== ------------------- a. Tour Challenges: ------------------- A new feature in the game's tour mode. ix. WHAT ABOUT DLC CHALLENGES?
Good question. Well, I'll be honest. I only have enough DLC to cover 2 of those
challenges, although I'll have more of them once I get RB1 exported (the copy I
used is 125 miles away, cut me some slack). As well, they can fluctuate
depending on how many DLC you have from that band; the general rule is if you
have three songs by the band, they will have a challenge, unless there's an
album from that band. Here are some examples of challenges:
Moving Pictures Challenge (Rank: Headliner)
1. Tom Sawyer (Original)
2. Red Barchetta
3. Limelight (Original)
4. The Camera Eye
5. Witch Hunt (Part III of Fear)
6. Vital Signs
*Note: Boo, no YYZ
Metallica Challenge (Rank: Impossible)
1. ...And Justice for All
2. Ride The Lightning
3. Blackened
4. Battery
*Note: Hardest challenge you can get with only 4 songs, IMO.
I'd rather not go into listing all of them, because the list is constantly
updating. If you haven't done Tour Challenges anyways, they'll unlock depending
on the difficulty that Harmonix deems them to be. If you've already unlocked
most/all of the challenges from that tier, it'll magically appear there.
--------------
b. World Tour:
--------------
I'm sure anyone who's played Rock Band knows what this is about. Basically, you
take your band and you tour the world, finishing setlists and gaining fans and
stars to earn new venues, as well as special setlists. There are more venues
this time around, as well as a staff member to hire which affects earnings.
Now, I'm not going to list every single setlist, because that varies by where
you choose your band to begin. Instead, I'll tell you the really important
ones, as well as staff and challenges.

VI. FAQ/CONTACT ME:
===================
Q: Can I use my RB1 instruments on RB2?
A: Yes.
Q: Can I use my GH2/GH3/GHWT instruments on RB2?
A: Yes. With the GHWT drums, both cymbals will be mapped as the same.
Q: Can I use my RB2 instruments on GH2/GH3/GHWT?
A: AFAIK, you can on GHWT. The notechart will adjust to the 4 pads of the RB2
drum set. As for GH2/3, I'm not sure. I don't think so.
UPDATE: I've had e-mails telling me that the RB2 Strat doesn't work on GHIII.
Q: What's the song playing at the intro?
A: Cheap Trick's "Hello There".
Q: What's the fastest way to make money?
A: Go hire the accountant. Then, go to World Tour, go do the large venues'
"Create-a-Setlist" lists, play easy songs, and try to five/gold star them.
Bets will make this loads easier.
Q: How do you create custom songs?
A: You can't.
Need an answer that isn't here? You could e-mail me at
k_graham9 [at] hotmail.com. I'll try to get back to you as quick as possible,
but I have school as well to take care of, so don't expect me to answer too
quick. As well, you can ask me on the message board, my username is The Slurpee
Man.

Now that I have that mumbo-jumbo out of the way, I'd like to say that it was
fun writing this guide, and I hope to write another in the future.
Special thanks to a few people:
CJayC for creating the site, and SBAllen for maintaining it.
Harmonix for this game and a constant flow of DLC (I still am waiting for
Porcupine Tree!)
My roommate who endured hearing Panic Attack over 9000 times (but it might be
getting to him).
CE, because they're lulz like that.
Dream Theater for making Panic Attack so frustrating.
And you, the readers, for reading this.
