It's a really simple system, though. All my sections have been seperated into chapters and segments, chapters numbered and segments lettered. You can then simply find any section, by pressing ctrl+f and typing in the segment or chap- ter title, number and/or letter. For example, if I was looking for the game controls for the game, I would search "2.b)" and since that is the only "2.b)" in the guide, it will bring you there. That simple. CREDITS /-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\ ############################################################################### 1. INTRODUCTION ############################################################################### \-----------------------------------------------------------------------------/ This section will contain various parts that introduce you to the guide, the author (me), and Forza Motorsport 3. ******************************************************************************* 1.1... Introduction ******************************************************************************* Four years ago I was racing like crazy with Forza Motorsport on the Xbox. If I wasn't racing competitively online, I was taking part in events from the Career Mode and earning credits. And when I was off the track I would either be tuning and upgrading my cars or buying and selling them. The hundred-or-so hours used doing all that was time well spent. It was the most realistic and entertaining racing experience I had ever got. Even when I got the Xbox 360, I stuck with Forza 1 and didn't buy the sequel when it was released back in '07. My racing experience soon came to an end, however. There were simply too many good games for me to concentrate on sole racing, so finaly, Forza was shelved. Two years later Forza Motorsport III was announced, and I felt the game-racer within me coming alive. Was it finally time to get back into a simulated cock pit and race laps around the Maple Valley Raceway? After checking a few E3 previews and interviews for Forza III I decided that it was finaly time. Forza III was purchased in the nearest store, and for hours it was the only game in my 360 hard drive. Forza Motorsport 3 is hands down the best racer ever- no matter the type of racing game. This game beats out all of the best arcade racers, party racers, and simulations. Before I get lost into telling you how good Forza 3 is I must get back to the point of this introduction. This guide will cover almost every aspect of this game, and improve your racing skills whether you're a pro or a beginner to simulated racing. If you're a beginner just starting off, you shall feel right at home with Forza 3's many generous assists turned on. Read chapters two, three, and four to immediately gain tips on how to race well. For more hardcore racers you can skip right down to chapter seven, where all the best racing tips and strategies are talked about. This chapter will also cover all the race types from the season mode and include all the driving tips for you to beat those specific types of races- be it the long endurance races or the short but exciting drag races. Finally, both hardcore and beginners should check chapters five and six out for tips on using the customizing tool and upgrade/tuning system to make your car the perfect ride. Either of these systems are one of the most in-depth out there in the game racing world, so be sure to check out those chapters or you could be missing out on ways to truly flesh-out the potential of those tools. By using them well you can make your design your ride to look as unique as it can possibly be. The only limit is your imagination. Please understand that Forza Motorsport III is at it's core a racing game, and a simulation at that, so there will not be any walkthroughs for the season (career) mode or anything like that. You will need to read through all the tips and strategies I provide for racing in general, and also for the particular race types for different events in order to gain a boost in your success as a game racer with Forza 3. Many players will have specific problems and questions however, and in those cases feel free to ask me anything about Forza via email. I will reply to you as soon as possible. One last thing before we move on. Developers Turn 10 have really set the bench- mark for racing games now with this third release. And so here's us hoping that Gran Turismo 5 and other future racers will follow their actions into producing quality, realistic racers. And man, Forza 4, what will that be like? Only time will tell. Until then, enjoy the most realistic yet most accessible racer of all time. Your Pal, Kranti ******************************************************************************* 1.2... Forza Motorsport III ******************************************************************************* For those of you that are wondering what's good about this game or even what exactly is this game about, this short part is for you. Forza Motorsport III is the most realistic and entertaining racing experience out there in the gaming market. The game is also one of the largest racing games ever- with over 400 superbly modeled and detailed cars, over a hundred real and invented tracks, and a huge career mode and online component. Basically if you happen to have the least bit of interest in cars, or in fact, do not despise cars in particular, you will want to check this game out. Forza 3 does an incredible job of including options to turn on in-game driving assists that help enhance the experience of those that aren't good at these games. So whether you're a good race driver or not, you will feel that you're able to hold the wheel through any race- provided you give some effort. The game also has the largest, craziest car designing tools ever. You can adds hundreds and hundreds of different shapes, creatures, symbols, letters, decals, and more to your car. You can change the size of any of these things easily, and position them in any way you see fit. You can color your car with hundreds of different paint jobs, and also focus on painting your car in specific places (if that's your thing). None of this is required though, it's simply there if you want it. Speaking of which there's also a robust upgrading and tuning system in Forza 3, which I will go through in detail in section 6, and you can truly improve the performa- nce of your car in many different ways with these upgrades. There are also fast 'Quick Upgrade' packs that you can purchase if you can't be bothered with upgrading individual parts. All in all this is a superb racer that can be friendly and welcoming for those that are new to this type of thing, or a challenging and extremely realistic experience for the hardcore racers. Get this game and you won't go wrong. ******************************************************************************* 1.3... About the Author ******************************************************************************* This short part will be on a little info about me, but if you're not interested feel free to move on to the next part of this chapter. I have over ten years of gaming experience by playing over two hundred titles and beating at least sixty of them. Completely, from start to end, rooting out all the secrets and side stuff. How did all this begin though? At the age of just seven my dad brought back a NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) so that he could play Super Mario and introduce me to it. I loved it, and soon I was playing all sorts of games with him (and alone) as well. Gaming was for pure fun back then however, and I thought little about the story, presentation, sound, and whatnot. A year later I got the Gameboy Color, and played Pokemon Blue and Yellow to the max. And other games, of course. Then my beloved aunt decided- this was two years later- to give me a SNES. A Super Nintendo. I was very excited when I got the system, and I couldn't wait to play better versions of the games I played on the NES. And I did- games like Mario got their sequel and I love them. But again gaming was only for pure fun. Then of course I got a Game Boy Advance, and found myself not only replaying Pokemon (and getting the story more this time), I also bought many other games. After seven to eight months I think, my aunt gave me another game system. This time only because my uncle got a PS2, but it was still a great gift. I recieved a playstation, and a bunch of games. It must have been around twenty games as well, I still remember not knowing which one to start with. I ended up playing everything for pure entertainment, and soon found myself settled and into "beating" some of them. Yes gaming became more serious when I reached the age of ten, and I found myself beating a few games. I bought and owned over a hundred games for that console. The real big hit came next, however. A year later the Xbox was released, and I found it a much cooler system than anything I've ever seen. Sure it was big and perhaps a little ugly, but at the same time it was cool- both in color and in design. It looked... like a kick-ass game system, rather than a delicate one. I wanted it so bad, especially after playing Halo at my friends'. So I asked for it a few months after release, and my parents promised to buy it for me. I can't stress how happy I was to hear that piece of news. Unfortunately it took another few months for me to finally get the system, and I started out with just one game: Dead or Alive 3. Now that game was far from perfect, but as probably quite a few of you know, it's pretty good. It's also the first time I actually owned a next-gen game, so I was glad to play it. I think I beat the game with every character after I got my third game for the system. The second game was Terminator, the third was 007: Nightfire. I loved the latter, playing what must have been a few hundred multiplayer matches with my sister, friends, and bots. The real gaming started with the Xbox I must say. The next couple of years were spent on reading game mags and figuring out which games to buy, and which to avoid. I felt I understood how important a game's story could be sometimes, and I started to listen to them. I read reviews and compared them. I also picked games I liked the most and finished them off completely- I must have finished half of my first twenty games by the time I bought the twenty-first. I still remember the thirteeths being Conker: Live & Reloaded. One of the best game I've played to date, not only because it was funny and great fun, but also because it had the best graphics I've ever seen, had superb sound, and just presented to me one of the best characters I've ever known. Not to mention the great multiplayer. Oh and this game was the reason I got Xbox Live as well, and I spent ages on live with it. This was late 2005 by the way, and half a year ago I also got Halo 2 and played a lot of live with it. And then the guide and review writing began, starting with Conker and then with a couple of other games like Fable. I also recieved the PSP around the time I got Conker, and I spent a hell load of time on that too. Half a year later I was deep into writing reviews and guide for both the Xbox games and PSP games. I didn't post all of it onto sites, no, a lot were for practice and fun, but I eventually started posting and joined gamefaqs.com. Around summer 2007, which by then I had over fifty games on the Xbox and thirty game on the PSP (and completed half of them), my mum bought an Xbox 360. Yes, just one random day she decided to get it for me. The joy! It was not a gaming leap like it was back when I got my Xbox, but it got me a little deeper into guide writing I suppose. The next two years I spent on buying all the great games that came out, and all with my money as well. Nearly every single one of them was bought with my hard-earned (yeah right) pocket money. But it felt good to do so. Because in a way it meant my parents couldn't take them away from me by saying "we paid for them anyway, so take your punishment and give them to us". Games like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Gears of War, GTA IV, and Halo 3 were great experiences. In just under two years I bought more than thirty games, and as of now I've beaten what must be eighty percent of them. The games listed above plus Bioshock, GRAW 2, Perfect Dark, COD 4, Ninja Gaiden, Dead Space, Fallout 3 and Fable 2 are just some of the games I absolutely loved. A little more than a month back I also got Batman: Arkham Asylum, and being a big fan of the dark knight I loved the game like hell. Finally after beating Batman: AA I bought Forza Motorsport 3 and have been racing ever since. Yep and that's it. My gamer life may not be all that long and twisted, but it felt like a damn long journey to me. Mostly because I can't believe how I survived with a playstation now that I'm for Microsoft. But yeah I can't really complain that much- Sony does deliver quite a few good games here and there. They do have Gran Turismo games, don't they? But we still have the better host of simulated racing games. We got Forza. Sorry sony, you lose again. /-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\ ############################################################################### 2. GETTING STARTED ############################################################################### \-----------------------------------------------------------------------------/ To get you started this chapter will quickly go through some things you need to know before playing the game. This includes the game controls, game screen interface and a host of new features that Forza 3 provides. Those of you that have the manual feel free to head straight to the next section. ******************************************************************************* 2.1... Game Controls ******************************************************************************* Here are the complete game controls for the game. Note that you can configure these controls in the options menu. |Button | Function | {L} thumbstick Steer Car {R} thumbstick Rotate Camera (Free Look) [R] trigger Accelerate [L] trigger Brake (A) button Handbrake (B) button Gear Up (X) button Gear Down (Y) button Look Behind [LB] bumper Clutch [RB] bumper Change Camera Start Button Pause Game (shows pause menu) Back Button Rewind ******************************************************************************* 2.2... Game Screen ******************************************************************************* In this section I will try and explain the different HUD icons on your Forza 3 screen. Some of these icon will show important information so be sure to know which icon represents what. ....................... Track Layout (Mini-Map) ....................... At the bottom left corner of the screen you will find the layout of your track along with you and your opponent's positions. This track layout will help you into determining which sorts of corners, bends, and straigthaways are waiting for you. You can also use it to locate every single opponent on the race track at all times. Your own car will be represented with a green arrow, where as your opponent's cars will be represented with a circular gray icon. ................ Current Position ................ On the top left hand corner you will find your current position in the race. It will be represented in the form "X/8", where X is your position out of the 8 drivers in this race. For example, "3/8" would indicate you are currently placed third out of the eight racers. Keep an eye out for your position, as the higher you place the more credits and XP you earn. And who would want to place last, anyway? ......................... Car Behind/In Front Times ......................... In the space of the top center of the screen is the location where the game will occasionally display how many seconds the car in front of you is leading, and how many seconds the car behind you is trailing. To be more specific, these indicators appear generally when you pass a split section of the track, where your current lap time is compared to the previous. This happens because the game also calculates the time when the car in front and behind passes those points, so the differences between you and them can be calculated. This is a very important indicator especially if you're trying to lose an opponent that is behind you, or catch up to one that is in front of you. You can check these times and see if they are decreasing or increasing to know how well you are faring. ......... Lap Times ......... On the top right hand corner on the screen there are a few different lap times. Your best lap, last lap, and current lap will be shown here. Best lap indicates the best time you have made on this track since the start of the race, last lap indicates the lap time you achieved on the previous lap in this race, and curr- ent lap indicates the current time you've spent on this lap of the race. These times are useful as an indication as to if you're improving lap times or not. If not, you are probably not doing as well as you can in this race. .................... Condition Indicators .................... Right below your lap times is where you will find the indicators for the condi- tion of your car. These will usually only a appear when you take severe damage, but you can turn these indicators on by pressing the right button on the d-pad. These indicators are extremely important as to showing the condition of your car- but only when you have your settings to damage set to "limited" or "simul- ation". A car icon will appear when your car gets damaged, and the area of the car that is damaged will be represented as a tint on this icon with either yellow, orange, or red. Yellow indicates minor damage, orange indicates serious damage, and red indicates extreme amounts of damage. ........... Speedometer ........... Ah of course, how can your HUD feel complete without your speedometer? Your speedometer is located on the bottom right of the screen. It indicates your current speed, gear, and the assist(s) that are being turned on at the moment. Your speed is important for determining how you are going to brake in the next corner, where as your current gear is important for players that have selected manual transmission. ******************************************************************************* 2.3... New Features ******************************************************************************* A lot of you are probably wondering what exactly have Turn 10 done to make Forza 2 into Forza 3. At the surface it may look like Forza 2 with an expansion pack and better graphics and sound, but in fact it's much more than that. Read on to find out all the additions and changes the guys at Turn 10 have made. ............... Rewind Function ............... This new function allows you to rewind your race at any time. Aside from not being able to rank your lap times in the leaderboards with those that did not use this feature in their times, there is absolutley no penalty for using this function. This is extremely good news for the newbies and less experienced racers out there- every time you make a mistake, rewind and try again. Yes, and it's not cheating, since you need to do all the racing yourself no matter how much you use this rewind feature. Note: I have noticed many of the more experienced players have been saying that they feel this feature is cheap. Simply don't use it guys! I stopped usi- ng this feature around the fifth hour of play, and I have no problem avoid using it. Just remember if you do happen to be really unlucky and make an incredibly silly mistake in a long race, it's still there for you to use. .......... Car Levels .......... Forza games always had driver levels, but this time round you have that and car levels. Car levels are the levels of each of your individual cars, and they determine how much experience that car has on the track and how much reputation that car has. Each time you gain a car level your reputation goes up and you recieve discounts from different upgrade shops for this particular car's manuf- acturer. Another change on leveling is the prizes you get for leveling up your driver level. Each time you level up your driver, you gain respect from a particular manufacturer, and they give you a car as a gift. There are 50 driver levels to achieve, and around 50 manufacturers in the game, so I figure you get one gift car from each manufacturer. ................ Paint and Design ................ The variety of colors, decals, and vinyls have increased in Forza 3. This gives everyone a wider range of things to make their car design unique. Also for those that always creat superb designs with the paint and design tools, you have more tools to go crazy with now. .................. Graphics and Sound .................. Although this is an obvious and inevitable 'change' from Forza 2 to Forza 3, it is still worth mentioning because of the stunning results. The guys at Turn 10 have remodelled every single car and they claim that each car has twice the number of polygons as those that were in Forza 2. The best part though is they actually modelled each car's interior to match the real version of the cars. So those that wanted the cockpit view back in Forza 1 or 2, it's here with a lot of detail. They also made all the tracks much more realistic and sharp, and also (thankfully) improved the animations and looks of the audience. And the biggest hit is that they managed to make thegame run at a constant 60 fps, meaning there are no slow downs no matter what. The sound is also improved, as each individual car has been fitted with either the real engine sounds of their real-life counterpart, or something similar. There is much more variety in engine sounds this time. The soundtrack is also more fitting this time, both in races and when you're scrolling through the menus. ........................ More Accessible- Assists ........................ A rather large change and an incredible feat by the developers Turn 10, they managed to make the game much more accessible. This welcomes all sorts of new audience to play, and not only those that usually don't play racing games but also those that usually don't play games at all. They did this by improving the range of assists available in the game. You can now turn on and off four major assist systems of your car, and one of these assists actually help those that don't brake well around corners to... brake. It's done really well as now even my mum can play this game. The suggested line can now be turned on, off, or even into 'braking only' mode, where the line only appears when you need to break. They also made the easiest A.I. difficulty a easier than in the previous game, which again helps those that usually don't play this type of game. ...................... More Than 100 New Cars ...................... They took out a few cars from Forza 2, and added more than a hundred new unique cars into the game. Many of these added cars are really famous, like the Lamborgini Reventon for example. And since Forza 2's collection of cars were thought of as one of the best set, you will no doubt find this game's list of cars one of the best ever. .................. Tons of New Tracks .................. Loads and loads of new race tracks can be found in the game- they doubled the number of tracks this year. There are all sorts of new tracks and the result is you get a racing game with every track you'd want to race on. ............... New Career Mode ............... Career mode has been changed this time to being the entire Forza experience. In the main menu you can choose between "Forza Motorsport 3" and "Free Race". Forza 3 option brings you into your career, where as free race has the arcade type quick races, hot laps, and split-screen. In your career page you can choose "Go Race" which will bring you to a menu to choose between racing in a season (Season Play) and choosing individual events to take part. Season play has you competing in events you have chosen, while competing in world championships every two weeks on Sunday. This makes you feel more like a real racer, where you are actually racing as the days goes by. However by selecting the Events List you can take part in any even you have unlocked- provided you have cars in your garage that are eligble to enter the said event. There are more than twice the number of events from Forza 2 in Forza 3, and more variety and styles of racing this time round as well. I believe the actual number of events come around about 220+. That's more than 1100 races guys. /-----------------------------------------------------------------------------\ ############################################################################### 3.
