This, my friends, is a walkthrough of sorts. When I say of sorts, I mean really, how can you have a walkthrough for a rhythm game? Hit the corresponding then the colors get to the targets. That's not what I'm providing (although a how to play is included). What this is is (eventually) a breakdown of each set list in the game in the order you will run across them, plus what you can earn for each set. Sounds Good? Added a Path of Least Resistance section to show the quickest ways to unlock a song in the solo career. Will be updated to include BWT in the mix once I get people who are willing to sit through my shenanigans of writing a FAQ while we play. Version 0.66 Store items started, I've got the Tops and Legs for Male Punk clothing finished, working on everything else. It's bloody tedious Finished the Drum Solo Career with all rewards as well as a How To section for both Drums and Guitar Version 0.55 Money rewards finished for all tiers in Solo career Five star and gold star scores for all songs finished Version 0.44 Updated What's The Answer More details on Drum Solo Career (not finished yet) Started Band World Tour walkthrough I have not decided how to absolutely do this yet because the city you start in and what cities you open up are dependent on where you start (with some exceptions like LA, Moscow, etc...) If you have any suggestions on how to best organize it, please drop me a line! Version 0.33 Guitar Solo Career finished Drum Solo Career mapped out Vocal Solo Career mapped out Score Section started =============================================================================== What's Coming [INT2] =============================================================================== Version 0.75 Clothing section will be finished; Delay on the BWT mode because of lack of people to play with me; Version 0.66 I swear I will start the Vocals Solo Career; Will finish the Clothing section. Version 0.44 I swear I will finish Drum Solo Career; Band World Tour will probably be finished before Vocal Solo Career; More updating of the FAQ, probably. Version 0.33 Next incarnation should have the Drum Solo Career finished; Followed by the Vocal Solo Career; And I will eventually be mapping out Band World Tour. =============================================================================== What's The Answer [INT3] =============================================================================== So there are some questions that get asked over and over again on the message board so I'm here to answer them once and for all. Q: How do I unlock the Golden Strat? A: To unlock the Golden Stratocaster, beat Green Grass and High Tides in the Guitar Solo Career as part of the main set list. This cannot be unlocked if playing on Easy. Q: How do I unlock the Silver Strat? A: To unlock the Silver Strat, beat Pleasure (Pleasure) in the Guitar Solo Career as part of the bonus set list Q: How do I unlock the Transparent Strat? A: To unlock the Transparent Strat, beat the Hall of Fame Induction setlist in Band World Tour mode as a guitarist. You cannot play this setlist on Easy. Q: How do I unlock the Golden Drum Kit? A: To unlock the Golden Drum Kit, beat Won't Get Fooled Again in the Drum Solo Career as part of the main set list. This cannot be unlocked if playing on Easy. Q: How do I unlock the Silver Drum Kit? A: To unlock the Silver Drum Kit, beat Outside in the Drum Solo Career as part of the bonus set list Q: How do I unlock the Transparent Drum Kit? A: To unlock the Transparent Drum Kit, beat the Hall of Fame Induction setlist in Band World Tour mode as a drummer. You cannot play this setlist on Easy. The Transparent Drum Kit is called the Solid Vistalite. You can also unlock this drum kit by beating Orange Crush in the Solo career. It seems to be an oversight. Q: How do I unlock the Golden Microphone? A: To unlock the Golden Microphone, beat Foreplay/ Long Time in the Vocal Solo Career as part of the main set list. This cannot be unlocked if playing on Easy Q: How do I unlock the Silver Microphone? A: To unlock the Silver Microphone, beat Can't Let Go in the Vocal Solo Career as part of the bonus set list Q: How do I unlock the Transparent Microphone? A: To unlock the Transparent Microphone, beat the Hall of Fame Induction setlist in Band World Tour mode as a vocalist. You cannot play this setlist on Easy. Q: How do I unlock the Golden Bass? A: There is no golden bass in the game. Q: How do I unlock the Silver Bass? A: There is no silver bass in the game. Q: How do I unlock the Transparent Bass? A: To unlock the Transparent Bass, beat the Hall of Fame Induction setlist in Band World Tour mode as a bassist. You cannot play this setlist on Easy. Q: How do I unlock the Hall of Fame Induction? A: In order to unlock the Hall of Fame Induction, you need to acquire 450 stars in Band World Tour Q: How do I unlock the Endless Setlist? A: In order to unlock the Endless Setlist, you need to have beaten the Hall of Fame Induction, have acquired 600 stars, and have acquired I believe 500,000 fans (I do not remember the exact number of fans you need). Q: What's the quickest way to get Timmy & the Lords of the Underworld? A: Timmy & the Lords of the Underworld is the second to last song (the twelfth song in the setlist) of the bonus setlist. Q: What's a Gold Star and how do I get it? A: To get five golden stars, also known simply as a Gold Star, you must be playing on Expert and reach a certain score. The score needed is 1.5195 times the five star score for Guitar, Bass, and Vocals.; The score is about 1.45 the five star score for drums. Q: The PlayStation 2/3 drums and guitar are all USB, can I use them with the XBox 360? A: No. No you cannot. I hate to sound mean, but what are you people thinking? The drums and guitar are CONTROLLERS. They are not simple input devices like the microphone. They are system- specific. It is like asking if you can use a PS3 controller to play Halo 3 or any other XBox 360 game. This works the other way around too. Q: Well than can I use the PlayStation 2/3, or really any other USB microphone with the XBox 360? A: This is an exception. The microphone is not an controller, it is a simple input device. As such ANY USB microphone can be used with Rock Band on any system. Q: When is Downloadable Content (DLC) announced? A: DLC is announced Fridays around noon (PST) on the official Rock Band forums (www.rockband.com). Or you can check the Game FAQs forums a little after and there should be around four or five topics saying what it is. Q: When is DLC available for download? A: DLC goes live on the XBox Live marketplace when the Microsoft servers update between midnight and 1am PST or between 3am and 4am EST. This time has a tendency to vary each week. When DLC was first available it was released closer to midnight PST, but recent DLC seems to be released closer to 1am PST. Q: My instrument broke, what is the EA support address? A: http://support.ea.com/rockband For the most up to date FAQs, see the Frequently Asked Questions (and their answers) post on the message boards, the link being: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=938870&topic=41792029 =============================================================================== What's Going On [INT4] =============================================================================== The songs presented below are listed in the order that they appear as you play through the Solo Career for each instrument. Each song is listed with first it's artist as presented in the game followed by the five star score and gold star score for playing on expert (each to within about 25 point for five, star and about 50 points for gold star) followed by how much money you receive for beating the song followed by what you unlock for beating the song. Band World Tour (once it's finished) will have the maximum amount of fans you can receive for beating the setlist (assuming I can find some sort of correlation, which if I find I will post as well). All of the songs in the Solo Career and some songs in the Band World Tour mode unlock items for your character. These items are denoted with a pound sign (#). If you have already bought the item for your character from the Rock Shop, you will not get that item again, nor will you get a replacement item. Most items you get can be purchased in the Rock Shop, but some items, such as the Rock Band Tee, company branded t-shirts, city shirts (which you earn by finishing a set for the first time in a given city in Band World Tour) and some unique instruments, specifically gold, silver, and transparent instruments, you cannot buy in the store. These items are denoted by a carrot (^). Since clothing items differ between males and females in the game, items marked with an uppercase M denote items for a male character and items marked with an uppercase F denote items for a female character. Items not marked with either are for both genders; these are usually the unique items such as City or Company shirts as well as instruments but also include some accessories such as the Reminder Rings. =============================================================================== What's My Opinion [INT5] =============================================================================== This section is basically what I think. My own personal Idaho, so to speak. If it is a Male item of clothing it will have a (M) next to it, female a (F) next to it. If you can unlock it by playing the Solo career it will have a # next to it as well as with what instrument. You will need to go look through the rest of my FAQ to find out which song unlocks it. I will not have items that you can only get by unlocking them (special instruments, city shirts, etc...). As the Vocals career isn't done yet the clothing you unlock for that I don't have done yet. Anyway, onward ever onward into the breech! =============================================================================== Ah, the tried and true Guitar, what started it all; old faithful. Well sort of. The new guitar for for Rock Band is the Fender Stratocaster, and while it's had some problems, it turns out to be a great "instrument". Even though the guitar is well known, Rock Band implements a few new things. How To Play [GHTP] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The basics of the guitar remain unchanged, and actually are quite simple. Each colored button, called a fret, corresponds to the same color on the screen. The GREEN fret button corresponds to the GREEN notes, RED fret button to RED, YELLOW fret button to YELLOW, and so on. To activate a note, hold down the fret button and than strum bar (the horizontal bar that moves up and down). Notes will come down the screen, and when the colored note comes down and matches it's corresponding target, the colored strip at the bottom of moving section, called the fret board, strum the note! It's that easy! If there are multiple notes at the same time, that's called a chord. All you do is hold down all of the corresponding fret buttons and strum! You're all set! Some of the more advanced techniques make playing the game easier to play. One technique is called alternative strumming. Reverse strumming is good for very fast as well as long, repetitive sections. The technique is as easy as strumming up and down at the speed you need. The second advanced technique is Hammer-ons and Pull-offs. They are the same thing except that one is down the neck (hammer-ons, toward the body of the guitar) and one is up the neck (pull- offs, toward the head of the guitar). What to look for to preform these are a normal sized note followed by more squat notes; slightly shorter and slightly different colored. When you see a set of notes like this, strum the first note as normal but for the rest of the notes just hit the corresponding fret buttons! That's all you need to do! Overdrive for guitar, like all other instruments, is gained by hitting a set of glowing white notes perfectly. This will build up your Overdrive, as seen as a bar below your targets that fill up with gold. Yes, you heard me, gold! When it gets half way full, the bar will start to flash, and when it does, tilt your guitar up fast and activate Overdrive! This will double your score, make the crowd easier to please and harder to upset, and if you're using the Strat, add a cool little effect to the notes you hit. You can even keep hitting Overdrive notes while playing to gain more Overdrive and keep going. Lastly, there is a unique section for Guitar, the Solo section. Solo sections are indicated by a blue background. These sections are special because they both A, use the effect that you're using on your Strat going and B, give you bonus points based on how well you do. Anything below 60% gets no extra points and is a Messy Solo; 60%-69% gets you a few extra points and is an Okay Solo; getting 70%-79% gets you more points and a Good Solo; getting 80-89% gets you a good deal of points and a Great Solo; getting 90%-99% gets you even more points and an Awesome Solo; and getting 100% of the solo gets you the maximum amount of solo points and a Perfect Solo. I don't know exactly how many points you get per solo, whether it is based on percentage of the score you get from the solo or set amounts per solo. Eventually I will find out. While it may take a little bit to get use to, once you've got the hang of it you will find yourself hooked, and at least for me, I have the same amount of fun, if not more fun, playing Drum over Guitar. How To Play [DHTP] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The first thing you need to know when you sit down to play drums is how to hold the drumsticks. What you're going to want to do is hold them lightly in your hands, I hold mine a little lower than half way up the stick (the best indicator being having about an inch free behind your curled hand), gripped loosely between my pointer finger and my thumb, with my middle finger providing a sort of bounce/support to get faster little bumps and jumps, but allowing the sticks to bounce after every hit. Try as early as possible to hit long string of notes with alternate hands, it will make doing so on harder songs easier and more fun. Secondly, DO NOT HIT THE DRUMS HARD. A soft touch is best (go ask your girlfriend), allowing your hits to be more responsive and cutting down on the noise your sticks make when you play. Now that we have that out of the way, the way you play drums is the same way you play guitar, notes come down, you hit them with the corresponding pads. The only difference is when there is a long orange bar across the screen, you hit the bass pedal. More on that later. Okay, it's later. The bass pedal is probably the the hardest part of the drums. There are basically two techniques to the bass pedal, heel down and heel up. Heel down is good for when you're playing lower difficulties and if the song you're playing doesn't have a constant bass beat, like Enter Sandman or Dani California. With this technique, simply keep your heel down and your foot pressing the pedal down and when you need to play, tilt your foot back and forward quickly to hit the pedal. Heel up is good for when you have a constant bass part, like in Maps (all of these songs are on Expert I'm referring to). The same concept applies, keep the pedal down until you need to use it, but the advantage to this method is that it doesn't tire your shin out as much and is easier to keep a constant bass beat. The biggest problem with the bass pedal is separating your foot from your hands. This just takes practice to get use to, but a few good songs to play (Expert charts) to get the hang of it are The Hand That Feeds, Maps, Orange Crush, and Enter Sandman. Overdrive for Drums is collected the same way that it is for Guitar, but activating it is different. After it's collected, you need to wait for a drum fill, a section where all of the target ares are filled for you to do whatever you want. You need to hit a minimum of three notes to power your overdrive, and at the end of the fill you will see the Crash cymbal (green for righty flip, red for lefty flip) and hitting that will activate Overdrive. Other than that, practice practice practice! The drum tutorials are actually quite a bit useful for learning how to play. ===============================================================================
Vocal Solo Career [VSCI]
===============================================================================
Vocals can seem daunting, but with a little practice, you'll be belting
out your favorite songs (and some you flat out hate) in no time.
How To Play [VHTP]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vocals play differently than drums or guitar. They aren't something
that you can sit and sight read, you need to practice the songs to get them
dead on. There is very little skill other than SING ON PITCH, but there are
a few pointers I've found that should help you on your way:
First and foremost, as stupid as it is, play the tutorial, if for no
other reason than to practice singing.
Second; I have found (and mostly everyone I've heard from) says it
is easier to sing for Rock Band in a higher octave, which means for us guys
throwing on our falsetto. If you don't know what that means, it is simply
singing high, making you sound silly and girl-ish (not that being a girl is
a bad thing. You're going for the girl-ish sound and you will sound silly
doing so, simple as that). Try varying from falsetto amuse-yourself mirror
singing (you know what I'm talking about) to reach high and low notes
respectively.
Thirdly, scoring. When you sing, a combo meter will fill up with
each section (yes even if you've got a 4x multiplier). That is the percentage
of notes you have hit for that section. From what I have seen, anything below
3/4 of the circle filled is a MESSY and you will loose lots of ranks on the
applause meter. Between 3/4 of the circle and like 7/8 of the circle is OKAY
and you will only loose a few ranks on the applause meter. Anything between 7/8
and a full meter is STRONG and, even though it will break your combo (as all of
the other ones do as well), you will stay about the same, and even go up a
little if you're doing real bad. If you fill your circle you'll get an AWESOME
and you will go up a bunch on the applause meter, plus get a combo going, plus
if it is a star power phrase you'll get the star power. You can fill the circle
This is mine, all mine! Well, for the most part all mine. First I need
to thank Harmonix for this fantastic, I couldn't have written this without ya!
Everything in this guide is their information just re-compiled for easy reading
and reference.
My second big huge thank you goes to "...PeridotWeapon and the pimps of
ScoreHero.com" for compiling all of the five star and gold star information for
the guitar and bass. You can find the post, as well as scores for all of the
songs at this link:
http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=18062#18062
Thirdly, the same big huge thank you goes to both b3nz0r and, again,
PerdiotWeapon for their work on finding and compiling the five star and gold
star scores for drums. You can find the post, as well as scores for all of
the songs at this link:
http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2196
Fourthly, the exact same big thanks as before goes to NumberCruncher
at ScoreHero.com for his work compiling the five star and gold star scores
for vocals. You can find the post, as well as scores for all of the
difficulties and all of the star scores, as well as phrases needed and the
precision needed in order to obtain the scores at this link:
http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=47839#47839
Finally, about this little walkthrough I guess you could call it:
this can only be posted on websites that I've given permission to. The sites
that have permission to use this are as follows:
GameFAQs
Carooe (for use in his guide)
Supercheats
The version on GameFAQs is the most up-to-date version and if a website is not
listed on that version it does not have permission. It's taken me a long time
to compile this information, don't be jerks guys.
