Basic Gameplay ............................................................................... A. Controls D-pad Left/Right Move Left/Right D-Pad Down Duck B Button Jump Y Button Pogo (while airborne) Y + Left/Right Perform a golf swing (while adjacent to an object/wall) ............................................................................... B. Basic Strategies - Getting hit will cause Scrooge to briefly flash, during this time you will not take any damage. Take advantage of this time to get out of harm's way. - Use your pogo stick to traverse obstacles that would damage Scrooge if he touched them (i.e. thorns and spikes). - When playing on Medium or higher difficulty, be sure to seek out Mrs. Beakley, she will always give you a 1-Up Doll. - When deciding which stage to select, choose the ones with the easiest bosses first (i.e. the Himalayas and the African Mines). This lets you collect more Heart Containers before facing the tougher foes. - When playing on Hard or Extreme, choose the Himalayas and Transylvania first because these are the only two stages with Heart Containers on those difficulties. - After beating the game you can replay any of the stages as often as you like. Play stages over and over again to earn more money so you can unlock more items in the Gallery. ******************************************************************************* V. The Beagle Boys are invading Scrooge's Money Bin en masse! Your goal is to guide Scrooge to his office while avoiding the Beagle Boys and his own traps. Start out by heading right. After the dialog break the bricks with your pogo stick to uncover the button. Hop on the button to rescue Huey then continue to the right. Bop the Beagle Boy with your pogo stick then climb up the rope. Pogo the two treasure chests to open them then use your pogo stick to reach the platform so you can continue your climb. In the next room, hop around the two side platforms to reveal hidden treasure chests then keep climbing. Once you reach the top, pogo slightly to the left to reveal a hidden treasure chest you can use as a stepping stone to reach the high ledge on the right. Head left and pogo the Beagle Boy. Pogo the bricks to reveal a hidden diamond. Up ahead is an oil drum. Walk up to it, hold left and press Y to perform a golf swing to send the drum to the left. Pogo on the oil drum to make it over the high wall. The ceiling in this section is low, let the Beagle Boy come to you then pogo him. Continue left to reach the next dialog. When you regain control, hit the bottom button to reveal the hamburger bait then quickly pogo up and hit the top button to whack the Beagle Boy with a mallet and rescue Dewey. Go left then use your golf swing on the rock to make the oil drum drop. Use the oil drum to hop over the high wall. Continue left and carefully avoid the three mallets. Pogo the Beagle Boy then climb up the rope. The side ledges in the next room have more hidden treasures. In the next room, climb near the top of the room then drop down to the left to make a red diamond appear. Let yourself fall down to the previous room so you can collect it then head back up. Repeat with the right side to collect another red diamond before continuing up. At the top, head right and use your golf swing on the rock to make the treasure chest drop. Jump over the gap then pogo on the oil drum to reach the treasure chests then golf swing the oil drum over to the right so it can be used as a stepping stone. Up ahead are two treasure chests. Pogo onto the one on the right then use your golf swing to knock the rock into the one on the left. The five mallets look scary but are actually pretty easy to bypass. Stand to the left of them and as soon as the leftmost one hits hold right, you should make it through unscathed. After the next dialog you need to hit the bottom button then the top one, while making sure to avoid the lasers. After saving Louie, continue right. Pogo the Beagle Boy and hop over the two gaps to reach Scrooge's office and the game's first boss. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . BOSS: Big Time Beagle Big Time is the leader of the Beagle Boys and is smarter than the average goon. At the start of the battle he will don a helmet so you won't be able to pogo him so easily... Big Time's pattern is pretty straight forward: 1.) He will throw either a globe or a bust at you. Avoid it by either jumping or ducking depending on its trajectory. 2.) Golf swing the object into the safe to drop it on Big Time's head. This will (temporarily) remove his helmet. 3.) While Big Time is stunned, pogo on his head. 4.) Big Time will put the helmet back on and grab another object Pogo him five times to put him down. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Heart Container (Easy, Medium difficulties) Before Scrooge can enter the temple he needs to collect 8 coins scattered around the beginning area. The coins can be found inside the large treasure chests. Begin by heading right. You can pogo the gorilla or avoid him, regardless he will keep respawning. Perform a golf swing on the rock to make the treasure chest drop. Pogo the next chest then pogo on the bricks to reach the three chests. The big one in center contains the Nightingale Coin. Continue going right. The red man eating plant CANNOT be pogo'd so bypass him and pogo up onto the ledge. You CAN pogo the snake so let him have it! Ignore the vine leading down and continue to the right. The annoying, respawning gorilla is gone (yay!) but now he has been replaced by the annoying, respawning bee (boo!). Pogo the chest to grab an invincibility medallion then quickly plow through the two man eating plants. Grab onto the vines by jumping and pressing Up. Jump from vine to vine till you reach the fourth vine. If you look closely, you'll notice an opening right above you, climb up to discover three treasure chests. The large one holds the Eagle Coin. Head back down the vine. Make your way across the remaining vines then pogo the snake to reach the ledge to your upper right. Pogo up onto the vines and make your way right. The large chest contains the Horse Coin. Pogo onto the vines to your right, above the center vine is another opening. Climb up to collect the hidden treasure then climb back down. Continue heading right. Now you have to contend with the bee and gorilla simultaneously! Open the large chest to grab the Sun coin then golf swing the rock to the left to knock down the chest. Climb down the vine, to your right is a large chest containing the Scythe Coin. Now head left and pogo the snake. Golf swing the rock to the left to kill the spider. Traverse the thorns with your pogo stick, being careful to mind the thorns on the ceiling! Pogo the snake then kill the spider by pogoing NEXT to him to lure him down then pogoing on him. Pogo across the thorns, open the two chests, then pogo over the thorns to the left. You will have to contend with a low ceiling AND a spider. The next set of thorns is easier because there aren't any on the ceiling. Pogo the spider and the snake then head left over more thorns to reach the large chest containing the Spear Coin. Head left over more thorns and a spider then even more thorns and TWO spiders. Jump the gap then golf swing the oil drum over to the left so you can use it as a stepping stone to pogo onto the ledge. Head left, don't worry, the thorns in the foreground won't damage you. Pogo the snake then open the five chests, the large one holds the Shield Coin. Pogo back up onto the ledge, head right then climb up the vine. Look familiar? We've been here before, make your way to the far right then climb UP the vine. Avoid the two bees then open the chest before climbing up the LEFT vine. Once you reach the top head left to find the treasure chest holding the Justice Coin (last one!). Now head right. After Scrooge places the coins in the slots the path to the temple will be revealed. Pogo up and grab the rope to hitch a ride with Launchpad. You don't have much room to maneuver but you can climb up and down a bit so you can avoid enemies and collect treasure during your flight. Just be sure not to go down too far or you'll fall off! After the ride head up the vine. You'll see two chests, above the one to the right is a secret passage leading left (use your golf swing to open the chest). Collect the hidden treasure then head back to the right. See those bricks to your upper right? When you walk under them a huge boulder will come crashing down and roll after you a la Indiana Jones. Head right and keep moving, use your pogo stick to traverse the thorns. When you cross the bridge the bricks will collapse so don't dawdle! You'll now encounter the respawning native. It may not look like it, but you CAN duck under his spear to avoid taking damage. Pogo him then jump up onto the statue head to make a hidden chest appear overhead. Use it as a stepping stone to pogo up to the high vine. Climb up and collect the treasure then climb down the vine on the right. Mrs. Beakley will be waiting here with some yummy treats to refill your health! Climb down the vine and head right. Golf swing the rock to kill the first spider then lure down the 2nd spider and quickly run past when it's safe. To the far right is a statue that can be destroyed to reveal several gems. (This is a reference to the original game where you had to pay the statue $300,000 toll to pass). Climb up the vine. Collect the treasure on the right then golf swing the rock to knock down the chest on the left. The ominous looking bricks overhead will drop as you pass by so keep moving. The trick is to use small hops to leap over obstacles. Avoid the man eating plant in the next room and climb up the vine. Pogo the two snakes while they're coiled then continue climbing up. Head right and you'll find another respawning native. Pogo the first spider then head under the next two after they drop. Golf swing the rock to kill the first snake then pogo the next one. Use the hidden chest to reach the chest on the upper ledge. Before climbing up the vine, use your pogo stick to go through the hidden passage to the right. Inside the large chest is a heart container! Heart containers permanently add one heart to your life bar. Grab it then go back and climb up the vine. Open the treasure chest then head left to face the boss. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . BOSS: Statue of King Manco Capquack There are two phases: "Head" Phase The statue's head will bounce around trying to damage Scrooge. Pogo it on top of the head then jump right before it lands to avoid taking damage. After hitting the head three times it will return to the statue. "Crush" Phase The walls, floor, and ceiling will come in to crush Scrooge. If the walls come in from the left or right then you need to jump on the lower wall then up onto the second one. If the floor or ceiling starts moving, move to the center of the room then quickly move to the "safe" square (usually the far right or left) that isn't moving. After a few "crushes" the head will hop back down. You need to hit the statue's head TWELVE times to claim the Incan Sceptre. ............................................................................... C. The nephew locations (marked N on my mini-map) are fixed, but no matter which location you go to first, you will rescue Huey, then Dewey, then finally Louie. Head right and jump over the skeleton. This looks like a dead end but the wall actually contains a secret passage. Jump over the next skeleton and continue right. Pogo onto the treasure chest for an invincibility medallion then mow through the skeletons. Ignore the chain leading up and exit the room through the right. You'll now be outside the castle. There's a respawning ghost with a blue glow here. He CANNOT be pogo'd, you'll have to jump over or duck under him. Head right and open the two treasure chests before re-entering the castle to the right. Keep heading right. You can golf swing the 1st, 2nd, and 4th coffins to reveal gems (the 3rd coffin contains a blue ghost). Climb down the chain (the coffin on the right has a ghost so ignore it). Once you reach the bottom, golf swing the coffin on the right to get a gem then head left. The basement is overgrown with thorns, use your pogo stick to cross them without taking damage. Keep heading left past the bone pile. Take the high path to collect the treasure chest then drop down and pogo left across the thorns. Pogo up to the two chests to collect the treasure then drop back down and continue left to rescue Huey. To save Huey you must pogo the ghost three times. When you hit him, he will flash for a few seconds. During this time you will be unable to damage him (or him you). Defeating the ghost will not only save your nephew but will also earn you a piece of a magic spell needed to reach the boss. Head left and HOP (don't pogo) onto the chests so you can reach the high passage leading left. Open the two chests then head back to the right and open all the other chests. Walk into the mirror to warp back to the beginning of the castle. Head to the right. Avoid the skeleton then climb up the chain. Open the chest on the left then keep going left to rescue Dewey. Pogo this "ghost" three times to rescue your nephew. The new wrinkle here is that there will be a respawning blue ghost to annoy you. After freeing Dewey head left to find two treasure chests then backtrack to the right. The blue ghost will be back, avoid him and continue right past the chain. Up ahead is a mummy. You can kill him one of two ways: either pogo him or you can golf swing the ball he's chained to. To do that, you need to back off a bit so that he can't see you then wait for him to walk as far away as he can then quickly go in to golf swing his ball. Golf swing the coffin to reveal a gem then pogo up onto the ledge. Pogo the mummy below. Ignore the coffin (ghost) and golf swing the ball to take out the other mummy. You can golf swing the next coffin to reveal a gem. Pogo up onto the ledge then pogo the mummy below. You can golf swing the coffin on the left but not the one on the right. Pogo the next mummy and continue to the right. Pogo the mummy on the ledge above and collect the two chests. Take out the mummy on the ledge to the right. BOTH coffins below contain ghosts so ignore them. Ignore the chain for now, pogo the mummy and head right. Golf swing the coffin to reveal a gem then head through the secret passage to the right. Inside you'll find a large treasure chest containing a heart container! Both coffins in this room conceal ghosts so ignore them and head back left to climb up the chain. Pogo the mummy on the left then golf swing the rock to make the chest on the right drop. Enter the mirror to warp to the top floor of the castle aka the mine cart track. The mine cart track is pretty straightforward, duck under the low ledges and jump to collect treasure. At certain points you will need to jump out of the cart into another cart or onto a ledge. The trick is to make sure you hold the dpad in the direction you want to go and hold down the jump button while jumping so you will have enough distance. At the end of the track you will re-enter the castle. Get ready to jump out of the cart before it falls off the track. Here you will find your final nephew (and spell piece). This time the "ghost" will have TWO blue ghosts helping him out. After saving Louie head left for another mine cart section. After the second mine cart section, climb down the chain. Ignore Mrs. Beakley for the moment and climb down the next chain. Pogo onto the two chests to reveal two hidden chests. Open them by golf swinging the rocks. Head back up the chain to Mrs. Beakley for some sweets. Open the two chests then head right through the hidden passage. There are several treasure chests hanging from the ceiling him. In order to open them you will need to pogo on a skeleton then golf swing his skull. Note that if a skeleton runs into an obstacle you won't be able to hit his skull. There are also tons of suits of armor. Golf swing them to transform the helmet into a treasure chest then golf swing the armor(not the chest) to open them. Climb down the chain and head LEFT. At the dead end will be a mirror that will warp you closer to the final mirror. Go right and kill the mummies then keep going past the chain. Ignore the mirror, kill the mummy and head right through the secret passage. Enter the large mirror to warp to the boss area. Make your way left while avoiding the respawning blue ghost. At the end of the hall waits Magica De Spell. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . BOSS: Magica De Spell Magica De Spell has four different attacks that occur in the following order: 1.) Flames She will usually do several flame attacks in a row: 1a. Vertical Flame Pillars These start out as harmless thin red lines then quickly grow to huge flame pillars. When they start to appear quickly head to a safe spot. 1b. Horizontal Flame Pillars Magica will follow up with horizontal flames. Jump up onto the bricks that appear above to avoid the attack. As the battle progresses there will be more layers so you will have to climb higher to avoid damage. After the horizontal flames Magica will laugh at you, take this opportunity to pogo on her head. Sometimes one of the bricks will be a treasure chest, if you can (safely) open it you'll be rewarded with an ice cream cone. 2.) Mirrors A rotating set of mirrors will appear, pogo on the one containing Magica to break her out. She'll be stunned for a few seconds and will make a comment like "How did you know"? Use this time to pogo her on the head. 3.) Bird Next Magica will transform into a giant bird. She will make one pass up high then swoop low to attack. That's your change to pogo her. 4.) Magic Blast After changing back to her human... err... duck form, Magica will head to one side of the room and unleash a three pronged magic blast. Do a low jump over the lowest blast then quickly pogo her on the head. After the Magic Blast she'll start over with the vertical flame pillars. You must hit Magica twelve times (15 if you count the mirrors) to collect the Coin of the Lost Realm. ............................................................................... D. Jump around the area to the right of the bat to reveal two hidden treasure chests that you can use as stepping stones to reach the chest on the high ledge. After the cutscene continue to the right. Kill the bat by golf swinging the rock. Open the chest to grab an invincibility medallion then quickly plow through to the right. At the dead end you'll find a large treasure chest holding the Mine Key. Collect it and return to the elevator. Ride the elevator down then head right to find Mrs. Beakley. Grab the sweets then cross the water by using your pogo stick on the duck creatures (look for bubbles in the water). Open the chests then pogo up to the hidden passage leading right. Collect the treasure then head back to the chain. Before you climb down, head left through the hidden passage to find a large chest holding a heart container! Return to the chain and climb down. Head left. See those four bricks hanging overhead? A boulder will drop down from there and chase you. Head left as quickly as you can, pogoing the slugs along the way. After the boulder falls into the pit keep going left past the slug and man eating plant. The path leading down is currently blocked so we need to go UP the chain. Keep climbing through the next room. Once you reach the top open the chest then head left. The next room is a bit curious, there are five rocks you can golf swing but nothing to hit with them. Climb down the chain at the other end of the room. Head left and pogo over the wall for some treasure then head right. Another boulder will start chasing you. Make your way down as quickly as you can and exit the room. The boulder cleared the path leading down! Climb down the chain. In the next room it LOOKS like you can pogo up to the left but you can't. Attempting to do so will cause a hidden chest to appear. Open it by golf swinging the rock. Head right. Watch the water for bubbles, duck creatures will jump out as you try to cross. Pogo them to help you cross. Halfway through is a bat that can be killed by golf swinging a rock. After you cross the water you can reach that high chest via a hidden chest. Continue right past two more duck creatures then climb down the chain. Head left, yet another boulder will chase you. Again, make your way down as quickly as possible and exit the room. Continue left and jump over the two man eating plants to reach the mine carts. Like before, you need to duck under low ledges and can jump to collect treasure. Halfway through you'll need to switch mine carts by jumping and holding Left. After the mine cart ride head left past the man eating plant. Hop the gaps then golf swing the oil drums three times to kill the plant. Climb down the chain. Golf swing the rock to open the high chest then head right. Hop over the oil drum and golf swing the bricks to reach the treasure chest. Kill two birds with one stone by golf swinging the chest into the Beagle Boy. Continue right and pogo the next Beagle Boy. Cross the water by pogoing the duck creatures & Beagle Boys. Climb down the chain and open the chest then climb down the next chain. Open the chest, kill the slugs then climb down the next chain. Open the chest on the left with a golf swing. Pogo the left two bricks then golf swing the remaining one into the plant. Golf swing the rock into the bat then open the chest and climb down the chain. Head left, pogo the slugs and avoid the bat. Stand on the rocks with the red gem to fall down to the boss. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . BOSS: Terra Firmie King The Terra Firmie King has a simple, three part pattern: 1.) Roll He will roll towards you to the other side of the screen then stop. That is when you pogo him. 2.) Loop-de-Loops Next he will rev up and do several loop-de-loops around the room, hop over them to avoid taking damage. When he's done he will jump into the background. 3.) Horn Blow Once the Terra Firmie King is in the background he will blow his horn one of two ways. A short blast with red music notes will cause boulders to drop from the ceiling. Avoid them by watching for the shadows and moving out of the way. A long blast with blue notes will call a whole gaggle of Terra Firmies to roll at you, pogo jump on them to avoid taking damage. After the Horn Blow he'll start over with a Roll. You only have to hit the Terra Firmie King FIVE times to make him surrender the Giant Diamond of the Inner-Earth. ............................................................................... E. If you try, you'll get stuck in the snow for a few seconds. Secondly, the bunnies will burrow through the snow a la Bugs Bunny. They will travel side to side and will jump up when they hit a wall or edge. Now that we've covered the basics, it's time to get that Fuel Regulator back! Begin by heading right. Above the second bunny is a hidden chest. At this point a respawning goat will appear. Keep heading right, pogoing bunnies and goats as you go. Keep heading right past the rope, there will two sets of two chests. At the rightmost edge open the chest then climb down the rope. Open the two chests then continue climbing down. After the two bunnies you'll find the Fuel Regulator... You knew it couldn't be that easy, didn't you? There are three bunnies scattered throughout the level holding a piece of the Fuel Regulator, pogo them to get the pieces. Climb down the rope. To your right is a secret passage leading to a large chest, inside is a Heart Container. Head back to the left and climb down the rope. Pogo the bunny and head left. After the gap there is a spider, lure him down then pogo him. Be careful not to hit your head on the icicles above! Pogo on the blocks of ice to make it over the high walls. Take out this spider the same way you did the last one. You'll come across a chest and a bunny. Pogo over the wall of ice blocks. The bunny has a piece of the Fuel Regulator, pogo him to take back what's yours. Continue to the left. After the next bunny you'll have to make your way across the platforms while dodging falling icicles. The trick is to get close to the icicle so that it will fall, then continue on. Climb up the rope. Lure the spider down then run under him. Pogo the two mighty ducks. After the spider is another bunny with a Fuel Regulator piece. Golf swing the ice block into him. Once you have the second Fuel Regulator piece backtrack to the left and climb down the rope. Head left to find Bubba trapped in a giant block of ice. Pogo the block three times to free him. Bubba will join Scrooge and use his club to break ice blocks, open chests, and kill bunnies. Make your way left. There are two chests on high ledges that you will need to be quick to reach, Bubba will destroy the blocks you need to use as stepping stones. Scrooge will eventually send Bubba to the surface. Head left, pogo the bunny, and climb the rope. The next bunny has the final piece of the Fuel Regulator. Now that you have all three pieces you need to make your way back to the airplane. Climb up the rope. Head right and climb down the next rope. Open the two chests then climb up the next rope. Make your way right across the ropes, you need to lure the two spiders down then pogo them. Use the second spider to reach the final rope. Climb up. Head left, lure down the spider, and pogo him. Pogo the bunny then climb up the rope. Keep climbing through the next room. Pogo onto the Beagle Boy to reach the secret passage to the upper left. Halfway through the passage you'll get stuck, perform a golf swing to knock the oil drum out of your way. Grab the treasure then head back to the right. After the bunny that annoying, respawning goat will appear. Keep heading right, eventually you'll reach an oil drum. Golf swing it down then jump down to the plane. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . MINI-BOSS: Glomgold Soon after you're airborne you'll be attacked by Glomgold and the Beagle Boys. Glomgold will use his cannon to either shoot a Beagle Boy or a bomb at you. If it's a Beagle Boy, watch for his shadow so you can get out of the way, then pogo him. If it's a bomb, golf swing it back to Glomgold to damage his plane. It takes five bomb hits to fend him off. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . This will cause bricks to fall from the ceiling. Avoid them by watching the shadows. At the tail end of the avalanche a rock will drop. Use your golf swing to knock it into the ice above the Yeti to drop it on her head. While she's stunned pogo on her head. When she gets up she'll start hopping again. After you pogo her, keep moving in the same direction to the edge of the screen. If you do, the Yeti will hop AWAY from you. After three hits she'll get mad and break the two ice blocks on the ends. You'll need to rescue Fenton and reclaim the Gizmo Duck suit before you can reach the treasure. Start by heading right, pogoing aliens as you go. After the third alien a respawning space duck will appear. You can pogo on a space duck to reach those two high treasure chests. When Scrooge reaches the gap the UFO will land. Climb up the rope (be careful not to fall into the gap!). Hop off to the right and pogo up to the platform above so you can climb up the rope. Head right and pogo the fat alien. Beyond him is Gizmo Duck's helmet. It's protected by an energy barrier so leave it for now and continue right and up the rope. Head left and jump onto the button to free Fenton. After the cut scene the artificial gravity will be off! Hit the three switches in the room to turn it back on. The switches all need to be hit within a certain amount of time of one another, hence the ominous ticking. After reactivating the artificial gravity head left. Head left and return to your spaceship. Blathering blatherskite! Now that Gizmo Duck is by your side it's time to blast open the moon vault. Make your way right, Gizmo Duck will blast any enemies you encounter with homing missiles. At the far right is the entrance to the moon vault. After the cut scene, jump up onto the ledge to the right to grab two hidden gems then climb down the rope. Make your way right, pogoing Beagle Boys as you go. At the far right you need to pogo the bricks to clear the way to the rope. Once the path is clear climb down. In the next room there is a hidden chest to the upper right of the rock. Use your pogo stick to cross the stalagmites. Lure the bat down and pogo him then continue across the stalagmites with your pogo stick. There's another high chest here that can be opened by golf swinging a skull. Jump the gaps then take care of the skeleton and bat. Instead of using the rock to kill the bat, pogo him then use the rock to open the chest. Pogo across the stalagmites. You can climb up the sixth chain to reach a hidden room. Grab the treasure then climb back down and continue right. Jump the gap and avoid the skeleton then pogo the bat. When you catch up to Glomgold use your golf swing on the bricks to clear the exit. In the next room cross the lava by pogoing the creatures (look for the bubbles). Exit the room to the right. (I LOVE the color scheme in this room!) Pogo the bat then pogo on the skeleton to reach the high path. Pogo the bats and the skeleton then backtrack along the low path to reach the treasure chest. Now head back to the right and climb up the chain. You can use the brick as a stepping stone to the chest then use Glomgold as a stepping stone to reach the chain and climb up. This is the ONLY time he's helpful! In the next room use your pogo stick to go over the spikes so you can reach the right side of the platform. Keep climbing up! There's a boulder dropping down in the next room! Quickly climb up onto the ledge to the right to avoid getting squished. Once it's safe resume climbing. There's another boulder in the next room. Quickly make your way to the safe spot then pogo on the boulder as it passes. Clear the bricks to the left with golf swings and grab the treasure before climbing up. Yet another boulder in the next room. Quickly make your way to the safe spot under the ledge in the middle of the room. Pogo up to the chests then climb up the chain. Pogo across the stalagmites, making sure to avoid the rolling boulder. You'll need to pogo on the boulder to reach the high ledge next to Glomgold. Pogo across the next stalagmite section, this time there are TWO rolling boulders! You'll need to pogo onto a boulder in order to reach the high chain. When you reach the top, head left and pogo up to the hidden passage to reach the hidden treasure room. Grab the treasure then head back to the right. Hop into the mine cart. This is nothing you haven't seen before, but midway through the room you have to make a tricky exit onto a ledge. When the cart jumps the track, wait until you collect the two small diamonds before jumping. Pogo across the lava using the creatures as stepping stones. Past that is a leap of faith, get ready to pogo a creature midway through. When you reach the other side you will notice a couple of treasure chests visible below you. Drop down off the left side of the ledge to reach them. Grab the treasure then hop into the mine cart. At the end of the track you'll have to jump out onto a ledge. Clear the bricks with your golf swing. Climb up the chain, open the chests to the left then head right. Bricks will fall from the ceiling as you pass. You'll also have to deal with an annoying, respawning blue ghost. Cross the lava via the bricks. Be careful because they will fall after you touch them. Jump onto the chains, climb up the third one to reach a hidden area. Pogo up onto the ledge, open the chests, then climb down the chain on the right. You made it! Now walk past Glomgold to face the boss. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . VI. Items
...............................................................................
A. Gems
Gems can be found inside of treasure chests or by walking/jumping in certain
spots. Gems give Scrooge money that he can spend on unlockables...or just
hoard in his money bin!
...............................................................................
B. Ice Cream Cone
Eating an Ice Cream Cone will restore one of Scrooge's hearts.
...............................................................................
C. Cake
Eating a Cake will restore ALL of Scrooge's hearts. Cakes are only found when
playing on the Easy and Medium difficulty levels.
...............................................................................
D. Invincibility Coin
Invincibility Coins have a black 'M' on them, collecting one will make Scrooge
invincible for a brief time. During this time his movement speed will increase
and he will not take damage from enemies. He can still die if he falls down a
pit, though.
...............................................................................
E. 1-Up Doll
1-Up Dolls will grant Scrooge an extra life. Because you get unlimited lives
on Easy, 1-Up Dolls are only found when playing the game on Medium or higher
difficulty. Mrs. Beakley will always give you a 1-Up Doll (except on Easy)
but they can also be found hidden throughout the levels.
...............................................................................
F. Heart Container
Heart Containers give Scrooge an extra heart, allowing you to take more damage
before dying. Heart Containers are found inside large chests located in
hidden areas.
On Easy and Medium, you can find Heart Containers in the Amazon, Transylvania,
the African Mines, the Himalayas, and the Moon for a maximum life bar of 8
hearts. On Hard and Extreme, you can only find Heart Containers in the
Himalayas or on the Moon, for a maximum of 5 hearts.

VII. Bosses
...............................................................................
A. Big Time Beagle
LOCATION: Money Bin
Big Time is the leader of the Beagle Boys and is smarter than the average goon.
At the start of the battle he will don a helmet so you won't be able to pogo
him so easily...
Big Time's pattern is pretty straight forward:
1.) He will throw either a globe or a bust at you. Avoid it by either jumping
or ducking depending on its trajectory.
2.) Golf swing the object into the safe to drop it on Big Time's head. This
will (temporarily) remove his helmet.
3.) While Big Time is stunned, pogo on his head.
4.) Big Time will put the helmet back on and grab another object
Pogo him five times to put him down.
...............................................................................
B. Statue of King Manco Capquack
LOCATION: The Amazon
There are two phases:
"Head" Phase
The statue's head will bounce around trying to damage Scrooge. Pogo it on top
of the head then jump right before it lands to avoid taking damage. After
hitting the head three times it will return to the statue.
"Crush" Phase
The walls, floor, and ceiling will come in to crush Scrooge. If the walls come
in from the left or right then you need to jump on the lower wall then up onto
the second one. If the floor or ceiling starts moving, move to the center of
the room then quickly move to the "safe" square (usually the far right or left)
that isn't moving. After a few "crushes" the head will hop back down.
You need to hit the statue's head TWELVE times to claim the Incan Sceptre.
...............................................................................
C. Magica De Spell
LOCATION: Transylvania
Magica De Spell has four different attacks that occur in the following order:
1.) Flames
She will usually do several flame attacks in a row:
1a. Vertical Flame Pillars
These start out as harmless thin red lines then quickly grow to huge flame
pillars. When they start to appear quickly head to a safe spot.
1b. Horizontal Flame Pillars
Magica will follow up with horizontal flames. Jump up onto the bricks that
appear above to avoid the attack. As the battle progresses there will be more
layers so you will have to climb higher to avoid damage. After the horizontal
flames Magica will laugh at you, take this opportunity to pogo on her head.
Sometimes one of the bricks will be a treasure chest, if you can (safely)
open it you'll be rewarded with an ice cream cone.
2.) Mirrors
A rotating set of mirrors will appear, pogo on the one containing Magica to
break her out. She'll be stunned for a few seconds and will make a comment
like "How did you know"? Use this time to pogo her on the head.
3.) Bird
Next Magica will transform into a giant bird. She will make one pass up high
then swoop low to attack. That's your change to pogo her.
4.) Magic Blast
After changing back to her human... err... duck form, Magica will head to
one side of the room and unleash a three pronged magic blast. Do a low jump
over the lowest blast then quickly pogo her on the head.
After the Magic Blast she'll start over with the vertical flame pillars.
You must hit Magica twelve times (15 if you count the mirrors) to collect the
Coin of the Lost Realm.
...............................................................................
D. Terra Firmie King
LOCATION: African Mines
The Terra Firmie King has a simple, three part pattern:
1.) Roll
He will roll towards you to the other side of the screen then stop. That
is when you pogo him.
2.) Loop-de-Loops
Next he will rev up and do several loop-de-loops around the room, hop over them
to avoid taking damage. When he's done he will jump into the background.
3.) Horn Blow
Once the Terra Firmie King is in the background he will blow his horn one of
two ways. A short blast with red music notes will cause boulders to drop from
the ceiling. Avoid them by watching for the shadows and moving out of the way.
A long blast with blue notes will call a whole gaggle of Terra Firmies to
roll at you, pogo jump on them to avoid taking damage.
After the Horn Blow he'll start over with a Roll.
You only have to hit the Terra Firmie King FIVE times to make him surrender the
Giant Diamond of the Inner-Earth.
...............................................................................
E. Yeti
LOCATION: Himalayas
The Yeti has a simple, two part pattern:
1.) Hops
She will hop towards you, run under her to avoid damage. You barely have
enough time to make it past safely so you need to be quick. Sometimes she
will do a big jump straight up, you need to jump right before she lands to
avoid taking damage.
2.) Wall Punch
When the Yeti reaches the edge of the room she'll punch the wall. This will
cause bricks to fall from the ceiling. Avoid them by watching the shadows.
At the tail end of the avalanche a rock will drop. Use your golf swing to
knock it into the ice above the Yeti to drop it on her head. While she's
stunned pogo on her head. When she gets up she'll start hopping again. After
you pogo her, keep moving in the same direction to the edge of the screen. If
you do, the Yeti will hop AWAY from you.
After three hits she'll get mad and break the two ice blocks on the ends. In
order to hit her now you'll have to wait till she hops under the block before
you perform your golf swing.
After five hits the Yeti will get stuck and you'll be able to retrieve the
Lost Crown of Genghis Khan.
...............................................................................
F. Giant Moon Rat
LOCATION: Moon
The Giant Moon Rat has three attack patterns:
1.) Ledge Jump
He will hop up onto one of the ledges then jump down to the center of the
room.
2.) Teleport
He will turn green then run off screen. He will then reappear somewhere in
the room and zoom down towards the bottom. He will then run off screen then
teleport again. After several of these he will return to the center of the
room and change back to his normal color.
During this time, the safest place to stand is just to the left of the ledge
on the right. If he appears to your upper right, then quickly run under the
ledge. If he appears ANYWHERE else, then quickly jump up onto the ledge. Once
he's offscreen, return to the "safe" place to the left of the ledge.
3.) Side-to-Side
He will run off screen and reappear on the other side.
When the Giant Moon Rat stops in the center of the room, that's your opening
to pogo him on the head.
It takes 15 hits to change the Giant Moon Rat back to normal and make him cough
up the Green Cheese of Longevity.
...............................................................................
G. Dracula Duck
LOCATION: Mount Vesuvius
Dracula Duck will start out in his "normal" form then Magica will throw a
potion into the cauldron causing him to transform based on the color of the
potion/puff of smoke. He will then change back to normal and so on.
Normal Form
Dracula Duck will float in the air and send a bat towards you.
This is the only time Dracula Duck is vulnerable to being pogo'd. He is too
high off the ground so you will have to pogo off the bat to reach him. If he
is floating higher than usual then he will send two bats and you will need to
pogo off both to reach him.
Orange Potion
The Orange potion will transform him into a giant that'll try to bite you
several times with his fangs. His bite is simple to avoid, just move under his
mouth before he chomps down. The trick is to move to the far edge of the
screen, then once he lifts his mouth move to the opposite edge.
Green Potion
The green potion transforms Dracula Duck into a dragon that spits fireballs.
Avoid them by moving side to side then leaping over them once they land.
Red Potion
The red potion will transform him into a swarm of bats! The bats will shuffle
into a formation and try to squish Scrooge. Move to the safe point to avoid
damage. When they lift up and start shuffling move to the center then quickly
move to the safe point once it appears.
It takes six hits to stake the Count.

J. Gyro Mini-Stage
Selecting a stage while the 5th digit from the right in your score is a "7"
will cause the Gyro Mini-Stage to appear. The goal here is to follow Gyro
in his gyrocopter (hah!) and collect the gems he tosses out. Be careful not
to fall in the pits or the stage will end prematurely. It's actually best to
let Gyro get out in front of you so you don't have to worry about banging into
him while you're pogoing.

X. Game Review
It sounds like a cruel April Fools hoax: a remake of a classic NES game based
on a beloved 80s cartoon, complete with hand drawn animation, the original
voice actors, and updated gameplay. After getting your hopes up, the horrible
prankster mocks you with "Never gonna happen!". But guess what? It did!!!
So does this dream come true live up to our expectations? And exactly what
was "remastered"? Read on to find out!
The gameplay has been modernized, most notably the level design and the bosses.
If you knew what you were doing, you could beat the NES original in as little
as 15 minutes. Not anymore, the levels have all been lengthened and new
sections have been added. There's the new mine cart area in Transylvania and
the airplane duel in the Himalayas. Two new levels: Scrooge's Money Bin and
Magica's Mount Vesuvius have been added, further increasing the game's length.
The bosses have also been upgraded. No more simple patterns nor dying after
only five hits, the bosses now have complex patterns that need to be memorized
and some can take as many as 15 hits before dying!
The new, hand drawn graphics look phenomenal. I remember playing the NES game
as a kid and thinking that it looked "just like" the cartoon. Now, it really
does, if you could turn off the lifebar, you'd swear you were watching the
cartoon!
Along with Mega Man 2, the NES DuckTales set the gold standard for chip tunes,
so coming in Wayforward had some pretty big expectations to live up to.
Fortunately, they managed to succeed. The new updated tracks sound great,
including not one but TWO different renditions of the iconic Moon theme. And
not only do the new themes for the two new stages sound great, they fit in
perfectly with the "classic" themes. As an added treat, beating the game will
unlock an 8-Bit Music mode option allowing you to play the game with the NES
soundtrack! The icing on the cake is the original theme song, complete with
both verses, that plays during the credits.
The voice acting is another highlight, all of the surviving cast members
reprise their roles. Scrooge, Launchpad, and Magica sound pretty much like
they did in the cartoon, albeit a bit older, particularly Alan Young (Scrooge).
He's now in his early 90s(!) and sounds tired and hoarse at times. Sadly,
several voice actors have passed away since the cartoon. Their replacements
are hit and miss. Glomgold sounds almost EXACTLY like he did in the cartoon
and while Mrs. Beakley is noticeably different, she's close enough. The
biggest letdown is Eric Bauza, the new voice of Fenton/Gizmo Duck. His Fenton
is okay, but his Gizmo Duck sounds NOTHING like the original, Hamilton Camp.
The Wii U version does make use of the Gamepad. On Easy and Medium, a level
map can be displayed. It can also be used for off-screen play.
Wayforward did an exceptional job with DuckTales: Remastered. This is an
absolute must play for fans of the cartoon, fans of the NES game, or even just
fans of platformers in general.
Pros
+ This FEELS like DuckTales (both the show and the NES game)
+ Excellent play control
+ Can play with either the Wii U Gamepad or the Pro Controller
+ The hand drawn art is absolutely gorgeous
+ The updated music is fantastic, including not one but TWO renditions of the
iconic Moon theme.
+ All of the surviving voice actors from the show are here
+ Being able to swim in Scrooge's money bin is a nice touch!
Cons
- An auto-skip feature for the cut scenes would be nice
- The new voice actor for Gizmo Duck sounds NOTHING like him :(
- Unlockables Gallery doesn't have the DuckTales Theme nor the piano version
of the Moon theme that play during the credits.
