Dragonball Z for the Kinect For Xbox 360 Version 1.00 Written By: David Harris Email:Dgnslyr90@yahoo.com Gamertag: ForeverMidnight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111 Hello, I am ForeverMidnight and this is my guide for "Dragonball Z for the Kinect." This guide was created by me to help gamers proceed through the levels, find all of the characters, and earn the achievements. When writing guides I leave out all of the juicy reveals in a game because there are some experiences you should see for yourself. When I write, I try to be relaxed and throw in jokes every now and again because reading guide's can get a little stale after a while. I am open to any suggestion or alternate ways of doing things in this game and if someone emails me a suggestion or recommendation, I will add it and give you a shout out. Well enough about me, let's get this game started. ================ ==Introduction== ================ Dragon, Dragon, Dragon Ball Z! This Kinect title puts you in the weighted boots of some of your favorite characters during the shows best moments. Play as the legendary Saiyan Goku as you fight your brother Raditz and so on. Utilizing the Kinects sensors you can Kamehameha your way through several hours of your favorite fights. As this is a Kinect fighting game, there is very little focus on story mode. The story puts you in every saga from Saiyan to Buu and gives you six of some of the "best" fights in the series. I say "best" because it really comes to a matter of opinion which the best are and as a fan I would have loved to seen some alternate fights from the anime in the story. But that's where the score attack mode is supposed to help. As you play the story mode and beat the high scores on score attack, you unlock more characters you can play as in this mode, from the mighty Super Saiyan 3 to the Ginyu Force. You can choose these characters and fight against all of the fights you have unlocked from story mode. So you don't get a chance to beat up the entire Ginyu force unfortunately but it is funny defeating Super Cell and Cui...you'll see. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ================================Table of Content=============================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Legal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ===================================Gameplay==================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============ ==Controls== [CONT] ============ Since this is a Kinect game, your body is the controller. You are the fighter, everything you do, your fighter does on the screen. This is a list of what you can do as that fighter. On the ground Basic fighting moves Jab- a straight punch forward Hook- curve your arm across your body Upper Cut- Swing your arm up towards the chin Front Kick- Kick your foot forward Side kick- Swing your leg from either side towards the opponent Dodge- Lean to the left, right, or back Block- Bring both arms vertically in front of your face Dragonball Z related moves *Assault Combo- When you punch and kick your opponent, you build your combo gauge, fill it up and you will be prompted to punch forward rapidly to fill a gauge bar. This will make your character rapidly pummel and knock your opponent away. You do the process three times with your character attacking them normally on the fourth attack. The end will knock your opponent away from you but still within striking range. If your opponent hits you enough to fill up his combo, you have to either lean to the left, right, or hold a block to fill a gauge to avoid the brunt of the attack. If you successfully pull the combo off then your opponent will be at maximum ground distance away and you will have a small amount of ki *Smash Attack- Hold your arm to your side and you will charge a smash attack. Punch when your opponent is close enough or when they are blocking and you will start a four stage attack. Each stage presents you with four action cards such as jump, side kick, uppercut, ext. After each successful action, you will dash forward and hit your enemy so hard you have to fly to get to them. These cards do not change in the stages but will have some crossed out. If you perform those actions, your opponent will counter your attack and hit you back. If you do not perform any action, your opponent will now be in Ki blast range on his feet. If you perform all four actions in the stages, you will pummel your enemy and knock them into the ground, putting them at ki blast range and giving you a few seconds while they are knocked down. Your smash attack can be interrupted if your opponent finishes a combo on you. Your opponent can perform a smash attack on you which cannot be interrupted by your combos, not fair right? When you see them rear back, dodge twice so that you are behind them or dodge once to the side then backwards to get out of range. If you only dodge to the side, your opponent CAN still hit you. When hit, you are given four block cards and have to perform one action to avoid the hit. If you miss then your opponent will knock you away and you have to try again. *Ki Charge- Crouch down with your hands at your side. Alternatively, and the game doesn't tell you this, if you assume either of your super attack stances when you don't have the ki for the attack, you will power up as well but stop once you have the ki for the attack. *After you power up a bit, you have the option of jumping to fly in the air and unleash a barrage of ki attacks. Punch in the air to fill the meter up to do the most damage. In the air *Ki blast- thrust your hands forward to unleash a Ki blast, if you keep your hand open the blast tends to work better. *If you perform a smash attack move, you will charge a blast that can be fired at any time before its fully charged if you have to move suddenly. A fully charged blast will hit your opponent for more damage but is slow and best fired when your opponent is standing still. *Ki blast swipe- When your opponent fires small ki blasts at you, swipe your hand in front of you before the blasts hit and you will knock them away. This only works on the small blasts, you HAVE to dodge the charged ones. *Dodge- lean left or right *With enough ki, like when you flew into the air, you can jump and run at your opponent. You are given one of two cards to do, either lean forward or perform an attack. If you succeed you will hit your opponent and be back at ground level. Super Attacks *Each character has two super attacks they can perform with enough stored ki, such as the Kamehameha or Big Bang Attack. The cards are shown on the left side stacked on top of each other, with the one on top being the strongest attack. Once you have enough stored ki, hold the stance on the card to charge the attack. Once the attack starts you have to try to match the movement of the next card with the movement of the character to get a perfect attack. If you perform the action then an onscreen "Ok" will appear, if it is perfect then the color will be gold, if it is good then it will be green. It takes trial and error to get the movements down perfectly. If no "ok" appears, then the Kinect didn't register the movement and your attack will miss your opponent. If your opponent performs a super attack you have one of three options. You can block the attack reducing the damage, taking away your combo multiplier, and not taking any ki. You can dodge the attack IF you have enough ki stored up, which will not give you any damage and keeps your combo multiplier. Or if you have enough ki to perform a super attack, you can counter their attack by filling up a combo gauge which will result in you hitting them for a lower attack damage than normal, no damage to you, and a reset combo multiplier. Of course you could do nothing and just take the full damage, but who wants to do that? =================== =Game play and Tips= [GMTP] =================== With a game like this, your body is the control; meaning everything you do, your character will do...in theory. I will talk about that in a second. The main story is very straight forward, you play all of the main seasons from Saiyan Saga all the way to the Buu Saga and relive some of the greatest fights of the episodes. Since all you have to do is fight and beat the characters with no real strategy, I offer you tips and advice from playing the game. ! It seems silly, but stretch before you play. The constant rapid fire movements and attacks you can perform can make some of your muscles stiff and sore, especially the frequent side dodging. ! The story line has the option of being beaten on any difficulty with characters being unlocked normally. If you play score attack and change the difficulty, the difficulty will reflect in the story quest until changed. ! The sensor is veeeeeeeeeeeeeerry sensitive to movements and sometimes will not register your movement properly. Practice slow, precise, clear movements so the Kinect can keep up. It's very easy for that thing to confuse jumping with squatting for a ki charge. ! Speaking of the above, don't have a wide stance when standing, you can get confused for ki charging which can make a dodge, jump, or attack hard to accomplish. ! The health gauge for you and your opponent is the number at the bottom left and bottom right of the screen respectively. By hitting them with attacks you lower the number. The number can only reach zero if the character is hit with a large attack other than a ki blast or a normal punch. It is possible to be at 1 and still win the fight. ! When you are fighting your enemy on the ground, especially on the harder stages, dodge around them to prevent them from filling up their combo gauge. A notable enemy to watch out for is Kid Buu who can fill his gauge up before you even realize your playing. ! The Smash Attack can hit an opponent who is about one dash ahead of you, so your opponent doesn't have to be very close. ! When your opponent gets a full combo gauge, you have to lean to the left, right, or perform a block and you must HOLD those poses while they are on screen to fill up the bar properly. ! Your opponent can perform moves you cannot which makes things difficult. * They can quickly fly forward and hit you on the ground. * When they are on the ground and glowing with Ki, they will not fill up your combo gauge and become harder to land a smash attack on, but can still fill up your combo multiplier. * When flying they will fly to the left or right and can launch a volley of ki blasts or a smaller charged smash blast. You can only attack standing still and cannot fly around. * Their ki attacks have a tendency to circle around after you dodge and hit you in the back, I don't know why. This is very annoying especially when it's a charged attack and can mean the life or death of your character especially in hard mode. When you dodge ki blasts, dodge two or three times in one direction or left and right after they miss and try to wait till the last second to dodge. ! When playing on hard, if you perform a perfect super attack, your opponent WILL try to block it with their own, there is no getting around it. It is very very rare for it to be a perfect without a block from the opponent. ! Your score is raised by your combo multiplier, that is the number of successful ground and air attacks performed without you getting hit. You can be hit by a few ki blasts and it won't take away from your combo meter. The higher the combo the bigger the score when you perform a large attack. When you perform a super attack, be it good or perfect, its base score will multiply by your combo meter and reset back to zero once the attack is finished. ! Your arena is not as large as you think and when you dodge you can get hung up on an invisible wall, so vary your dodges to the left and right to avoid this. When you dodge against this wall when flying you will move closer to the opponent, if you get to close your opponent will perform an action that will put you back in striking distance. ! When playing, especially on hard, it's a good idea to charge all of your ki but only use the first super attack. The opponent is smart and likes to wait till you have no ki to dodge their super attack. Don't ever use your full gauge before they do otherwise you have to use a block and even that will take a large chunk of damage from you. It is hard after all. ! When hitting/firing ki blasts/filling up a combo gauge, the Kinect will register the attacks better if you bring your arms all the way back in before punching and if you do it at a slower pace. If you were like me and just kept your arms extended and quickly move your hands like a rockem-sockem-robot then it doesn't register as well and can make performing combo gauges very hard to fill, especially on hard since it takes longer to fill. ! A good strategy if you're playing on hard is to charge a smash attack as soon as possible. The enemy avoids it by backing up and mocking you. Take the time to charge while they are mocking then ready another smash attack when they are done talking. They will dash forward, retreat, and mock again. Do that enough and you will be fully charged before they think to take off. ! It's easy to trade good form for rapid movements when you get frustrated or tired. You sacrifice your attacks when you do that so if it starts happening just take a breath, grab a drink, take a break, and relax. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ===================================Main Guide================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- =========== =Main Menu= [MM] =========== The front menu gives you a list of tabs you can activate by swiping with your right hand. Story Mode- You have the choice to perform the tutorial mode, which takes you step by step into the fighting mechanics of the game. Or you can play the story stages. Score Attack- Using characters unlocked from the game, you can play as anyone and fight the characters you have unlocked from the story mode. Card Reader- Using special QR cards from the game, you can scan them into your Kinect to unlock special in game abilities or characters. I don't have any in the guide, but there are many places in the internet that have them posted. If you use an ability code then it will not give you the multiplier when playing harder difficulties in score attack. Achievements- The list of locked and unlocked achievements in the game Options- Here you can change the mechanics of the game including the difficulty, sound/volume, color/brightness, changing dialogue from English to Japanese, and you can reset the QR codes you have scanned. Special Movie- A 15 minute movie showing...I don't wanna say, just watch it. It's in Japanese with English subtitles. ============================= =Story Mode and Score Attack= [SMSA] ============================= Story Mode ---------- Story mode can be beaten and all of the characters unlocked on any difficulty. There is no real strategy but I will mention how I did the Hard difficulty in the score attack segment. Saiyan Saga Raditz vs. Goku Saibamen vs. Krillin Goku vs. Napa Goku vs. Vegeta Goku vs. Great Ape Vegeta: This is the only fight like this in the game and it's really random. You are not actually fighting Vegeta, but more trying to survive as he chases you. You are given a few glowing orbs and you must perform evasive actions to avoid Vegetas attacks. If Vegeta hits you, then an orb breaks, if all orbs break then you will die. This level is not in score attack. Frieza Saga Goku vs. Captain Ginyu Vegeta vs. Captain Ginyu (Goku) Vegeta vs. Frieza (first form) Piccolo vs. Frieza (second form) Goku Vs. Frieza (final form) Super Saiyan Goku vs. Frieza Full Power Cell Saga Android 19 vs. Super Saiyan Vegeta Piccolo vs. Cell (first form) Piccolo vs. Android 17 Super Vegeta vs. Cell (second form) Super Saiyan Goku vs. Cell (perfect form) Super Saiyan 2 Gohan vs. Cell Perfect Majin Buu Saga Super Saiyan 2 Goku vs. Majin Vegeta Majin Vegeta vs. Makin Buu Ultimate Gohan vs. Super Buu Super Vegito vs. Super Buu (Gohan Absorbed) Super Saiyan 3 Goku vs. Kid Buu Vegeta Vs. Kid Buu 2 Score Attack ------------ This mode lets you to play through the fights of story mode as you unlock them but this time allows you to use any characters that you have unlocked. Each character from the story has a score of 4,000,000 you must beat to unlock more characters and earn their achievement, except for Kid Buu 2 who only has a score of 1,500,000. You can multiply your final score depending on the difficulty you play with easy, medium, and hard being worth x1, x3, and x7 respectively. For a full strategy on playing the hard difficulty, refer to the "You're the best there is" Achievement for my strategy on playing hard. ============== ==Characters== [CHAR] ============== As you play the game, you unlock characters you can use during Score Attack with the rest being unlocked after beating the high score for Score Attack. Characters health and attack are rated through an A to E scale with A being high and E being low. This part is labeled with the characters name, their style/how they are unlocked, their health and attack, followed by their two super attacks. I will list them by the difficult achievements to the "Beat x to earn." ***A Shutout Win: 40g [A1] Win without ever taking damage from an enemy Super Attack. Keep your ki level charged so that you can dodge or counter their attack, do this every time they attack until you beat them. ***An Awesome Win: 40g [A2] Finish the enemy with a Super Attack and win 10 times. It doesn't have to be a perfect attack, as long as it wipes them down to zero. ***Defense Expert: 20g [A3] Block 10 enemy super attacks When your enemy performs a super attack, choose to block it. ***Evasion Expert: 20g [A4] Dodge 10 enemy super attacks When your enemy performs a super attack and you have enough ki, dodge it ***Superior Power: 20g [A5] Intercept the enemies super attack When your enemy performs a super attack and you have enough ki, perform the counter action to intercept the attack. You have to win the combo gauge in order to earn the achievement. ***Super Attack Beginner: 10g [A6] Use 10 super attacks See "Super Attack Master" ***Super Attack Veteran: 20g [A7] Pull off 20 Super attacks See "Super Attack Master" ***Super Attack Master: 30g [A8] Pull off 50 Super attacks This is accumulative. Each character has two super attacks they can perform, as long as you get a good or a perfect then it counts towards the achievement. ***Full-Fledged Adult: 10G [A9] Pull off a 20 hit combo See "Complete Master" ***Veteran Warrior: 20g [A10] Pull off a 50 hit combo See "Complete Master" ***Complete Master: 30g [A11] Pull off a 100 hit combo Best done on easy or normal, your combo multiplier builds up with every successful attack you perform before you are hit. The fastest way to build it up is, from the air, to constantly launch volleys of ki attacks at your opponent while dodging their charged attack and super attack. You are fine if your hit by a small ki blast. ***That Won't Work On Me: 30g [A12] Deflect 20 enemy Ki Blasts in a single fight At ki blast range, perform a ki blast swipe to knock an enemies ki blasts away from you, do it 20 times in one fight, the count resets after the stage is complete. ***Something Good Before You Die...: 20g [A13] Win without taking any damage in Score Attack mode. See "...This is Super Saiyan 3" ***The Ultimate Power: 30g [A14] Win without taking any damage in Score Attack mode on normal See "...This is Super Saiyan 3" ***...This is Super Saiyan 3: 50g [A15] Win without taking any damage in Score Attack mode on Hard. I can't even begin to describe how annoying this is. With the Kinects wonky and super sensitivity it is very hard to do this achievement without the QR codes. Without codes: The best way I can think to get this is to play the Raditz or Saibamen Level with a character that has a high attack that is easy to pull off. I suggest SS3 Gotenks because his 1st super attack is very easy to get a perfect and his smash attack cards are pretty easy to pull off. Do a smash immediately and knock his ass out. Take those few seconds to start charging your ki to the highest you can. Once Raditz starts firing ki attacks, jump and bring the fight back to striking range. After you hit him, fire your first super attack. Charge up and repeat. When they fire their super attack, dodge rather than counter because you use less charged up ki, the damage back isn't very good, and you risk failing the counter. With codes: There are QR codes on the back of cards that give you characters and extra abilities such as not taking health loss or constantly full ki gauges. There are a bunch of places on the net that have the codes posted that you can print off or hold your laptop up with if you have one. I recommend youtube to find them. Scan the code that gives you unlimited Ki then spam the Super Power attack of any character. ***Full Power: 20g [A16] Store up the maximum amount of Ki with Ki Charge The description is a little bit non descriptive with this. Basically you have to store up from empty to full power in one charge without interruption. The best way to do this is to play with a character that has an easily recognizable Super Attack for the top card like Piccolos Special Beam Cannon. Play on easy and charge and use the special beam cannon. This will completely drain you of your ki and knock the enemy far away. As soon as you can play, do the Special Beam Cannon pose to charge your ki, it's easier to recognize for the Kinect and it shouldn't break you from it like the normal charge. Because you hit them with the super attack, they will have to fly around a bit before they launch attacks at you, giving you plenty of time to charge. If you use a Smash attack or Assault Combo, it will give you a little bit of ki so your charge won't count. If you just wait for your opponent to fly away and don't block their attack, you will be stunned for a second and won't have enough time to charge your ki before they attack again. The next achievements are for beating the high score for that character in Score Attack. ***Serves You Right...15g [A17] Battle Raditz in Score Attack and top your high score for that stage. ***The Fruits Of My Training! 15g [A18] Battle Saibamen in Score Attack and top your high score for that stage. ***You're Not So Tough: 15g [A19] Battle Nappa in Score Attack and top your high score for that stage. ***Have A Kaioken x3 Kamehameha! 15g [A20] Battle Vegeta in Score Attack and top your high score for that stage ***Boy, Am I Happy: 15g [A21] Battle Captain Ginyu in Score Attack and top your high score for that stage. ***I Feel For You...: 15g [A22] Battle Captain Ginyu (Goku) in Score Attack and top your high score for that stage. ***I Can Win! Again, this just means beat the score that the game came with, 4 million for all except for the 1.5 million for Kid Buu 2 There are two ways to do this. Play on normal, build up your combo gauge very high, then hit them with a super attack, rinse, repeat. Normal gives you a x3 bonus at the end and since all but the last Majin Buu requires you to have over 4 million, you need over 1,333,333 to get over 4 million. The second way is to play and win on hard. Hard gives you a x7 multiplier meaning you need over 571,428 to get 4 million, basically just winning the match. For hard, I played with SS3 Gotenks for his high health and attack. I would charge a smash attack as quickly as I could which normally causes the enemy to retreat and taunt, allowing me to charge up my ki. When they were done taunting I would charge another smash attack which the enemy would advance, retreat, and taunt again. I kept my distance charging until one of us to the air. I kept my ki high enough to launch my first super attack which hurts them and leaves me plenty of energy to still be able to dodge/counter their super attacks. Then it's just you dodging their ki blasts while charging your attacks and hitting them from distance. Keep in mind how ki blasts will circle around and hit you if you don't dodge enough which can drastically lower your health. QR power codes won't work for this because it will drop your multiplier to x1, meaning you have to get over 4 mill yourself, good luck with that The rest of the achievements are just for beating the sagas in the story mode on any difficulty ***Welcome To Dragon World: 10g [A40] Play Story Mode for the first time ***The Ultimate Decisive Battle: 50g [A41] Clear the Saiyan Saga in Story Mode for the first time. ***Their Final, Greatest Showdown: 50g [A42] Clear the Frieza Saga in Story Mode for the first time. ***Cell Games: 50g [A43] Taunt a dead opponent with Quagmire in Multiplayer Once you kill someone, stand near them and press down on your d-pad ***Battle For The Entire Universe: 50g [A44] Clear the Majin Buu Saga in Story Mode for the first time. -------------------------------------Legal------------------------------------- To write this guide I used the Dragonball Z for Kinect game disk This guide was written exclusively for the website http://www.gamefaqs.com/ This may be not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use.
