Please forgive me, for this reason, if I seem a bit new at the whole FAQ writing thing. I picked up the game Far Cry Instincts for the Xbox because I am a huge first person shooter fan. The FAQ/Guide that follows is not a walkthrough for the game, but more of a walkthrough on fighting him, and most of all, on avoiding the glitch. This guide contains spoilers, as it is obviously written about the final boss. I am writing this because although the information can be found on the message boards at gamefaqs.com if you look hard enough for it, I wanted it to be in an easier, more accessible place. 1.2 THE GLITCH AND MY EXPERIENCE WITH IT: The glitch which I, and many other gamers (including you I imagine), have encountered is a most annoying glitch indeed. This glitch makes the final boss invincible during the entire duration of the fight, and as you can imagine, certainly frustrates gamers if they do not know of it. Although the boss is made invincible, and obviously the fight has been changed, the game gives no indication of a change, and simply lets you believe that the boss is, in fact, just that hard to beat. Let me tell you, he is not. I probably fought him about 10-15 times before I checked the other walkthrough on this site. This walkthrough, despite being very helpful with the rest of the game, does not mention anything of the glitch, and so I continued to fight the boss according to the aformentioned walkthrough. It wasn't for another 4 to 5 more tries (and MUCH frustration) that I decided to check the message boards for new strategies, and upon checking the boards, I ran across 3 threads concerning the final boss, and the glitch. Considering not everyone has access to the message boards, and I wanted the information to be in a single, centralized location for all to use, I wrote this FAQ. 1.3 HOW TO AVOID THE GLITCH (NO WALKTHROUGH, NO SPOILERS): This is for those of you who don't want a walkthrough on the boss, but instead just want the information on how to avoid the glitch. It is very simple. When the boss jumps down off of his perch, wait a second, allow him to say his his little comment to you, and then attack. DO NOT attack him before he says this phrase, or while he is in the middle of saying this phrase, as attacking him in ANY way before he is done with his comment wil cause the game to glitch, and for him to become invincible. FROM HERE ON DOWN THERE ARE SPOILERS!!!! YOU HAVE NOW BEEN WARNED!!!! *** *** *** *** *** *** 1.4 BOSS WALKTHROUGH/AVOIDING THE GLITCH (SPOILERS): *Note that this is merely how I did it. There are other ways I'm sure, but this one worked for me.* 1. When you first begin the boss fight, Crowe will run away from you, and up on to the top of a cliff on the opposite side of the arena. Ignore him for now and run to cover behind the downed helicopter in the middle of the area. You should position yourself on the side opposite the cliff that Crowe is standing on, as this protects you from most (he managed to hit me a few times) of Crowe's fire. If you are having trouble getting in the right spot, run to the area which forms a right angle between the (wing?) of the helicopter and the actual body of the helicopter, and put your back against the body of the helicopter. A message reading something like "Hold X to fire rocket" should appear. 2. Now the fun begins. Several of the mutants which you have been fighting previously in the level will start to jump from the cliffs surrounding the arena. Don't worry, these mutants only come three at a time, and are (like all enemies in the game), visible on your radar. Use whatever weapon you like to dispatch them (I used the Machine Gun as it is powerful and they drop ammo for it), and try to get headshots on them. They will come a bit faster from time to time, so time your reloads after you have dispatched the end of a wave. The mutants which jumps from the cliffs to your far left (near your enterance to the arena) can be blown up with the rockets from the helicopter. So do like the game says and hold the X button if you need to kill them and buy some time to reload. I think you can only do this 4 times however. This portion of the fight is not difficult, as you have cover from Crowe's machine gun fire, and the mutants are no stronger than the mutants you just fought in the Villa. After you have killed all of the waves of mutants, they will obviously stop comming, and you can sit tight, and wait for your health to recover. 3. Now it is time to focus your attention on Crowe. Wait until your life is up to 100%, and, (staying in cover) turn to face the cliff where Crowe is standing. There is armor beneath this cliff, and that is your objective. Turn on your feral speed, and run as fast as you can to that armor and the base of the cliff. Get the armor and hug the cliff wall directly below Crowe. Once again, you should be mostly shielded from Crowe's machine gun fire, and if he manages to maneuver to a spot where he can hit you, simply run to the spot directly below him, and hug the wall more. 4. After you have positioned yourself into cover, look up at Crowe. Use whatever gun you deem necessary to shoot him, perferably in the face, though body shots will work too. If he begins to damage you, hug the wall again and try to get a different angle. Regardless, keep shooting him, maneuvering for cover, and regaining health if necessary. 5. **THIS IS WHERE THE GLITCH COMES INTO PLAY** After you have damaged Crowe enough, he will take a running leap from the left side of the cliff (it is the left side if you are facing the cliff, right side if you have your back turned to it). DO NOT ATTACK HIM WHEN HE LANDS!!!! Instead, back away from Crowe a bit, as he will swing his gun in an attempt to hit you. Do not stray too far from him however, because your chance is near. He will sort of lunge forwards and spin, and as he does this he will say something. (I am not sure what it is, though it is something about how he's waiting for you). CROWE MUST SAY, AND FINISH SAYING THIS PHRASE. If you attack Crowe before, or any time during the time he is talking, the glitch will be activated, and Crowe will become invincible. Let Crowe finish what he is saying, and then immediately feral attack him. 6. Keep doing your feral attack on Crowe (you should have enough life and armor to take a few hits from him if he manages to recover for a short amount of time and get a shot off), and make sure you keep him on your screen. Continue to pummel him with your feral attack and Crowe should go down soon without having enough time to do any significant damage to you. I did manage to feral attack him up onto the slanted wall next to the cliff he originally stands on, and if this happens to you, just back off a tad bit, get some cover if needed, and let him fall back down before you resume your feral attacks. 7. You don't need to actually fire a shot against Crowe once he is down off of the cliff if you do the feral attacks right, but if you don't manage to keep him from recovering and blasting you, run to cover behind one of the rocks in the area. Using your radar, find out where he stands, take out the gun of your choice, peek out of your cover, and shoot him in the head, as you can stay in cover and still manage to hit him in the face. Keep doing this until you can either get back into position to feral attack him, or he goes down. This is a very easy fight, provided the glitch does not make him invincible. 8. That's it. Watch him go down, follow the blue dots, and enjoy the ending to Far Cry Instincts. 1.5 IF THE GLITCH IS ACTIVATED AND THE BOSS BECOMES INVINCIBLE: After the glitch is activated, I do not believe there is any way to unactivate it and (E-mail me if you know a way, and I will include it in my guide, giving you credit of course), you have no choice but to die, reload the checkpoint, and start the fight over again. You don't need to restart your Xbox, take the game out, or any of that. Just reload the checkpoint and don't attack Crowe before he is done talking. 1.6 MY THANKS: Thanks to the people who originally posted this information on the message boards.
