This is a simple walkthrough on how to work & finish the ORIGINAL 1990 version of Lagoon on the Sharp x68000. If you would like to see me play through the game on Youtube, please visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1VA3UU4xDc A few notes: -This game utilizes jousting-style combat, you will not be swinging your sword -Magic use depends on your staff + sword, see my video as I will cycle through them when I get a new one -This is a bare-bones guide, there are characters, items, places, potential plotlines that I missed because I can not read Japanese -The guide will be updated as I figure more parts out, or if someone who can read Japanese wants to help These are the buttons I set on the keyboard and I used a controller for the D-pad and attack/jump. E = Equipment subscreen I = Item subscreen S = Status box F1 = Load/Save/Make Space bar = Use item Open first floppy drive, maybe be named "0" or "1", but make sure it's the first one, insert Lagoon disk 1 When copyright comes onto screen, insert Lagoon disk 2 into the second floppy drive After the intro finishes, you will see a block of Japanese text. Now insert Lagoon disk 5 into the first floppy drive, that you had previously put disk 1 into Atland 1. Talk to mother & sister in "bakery" - door will have a loaf of bread on it 2. Talk to guy in most NW house, next to armory - he has a green vest with white sleeves and a small headband 3. Talk to faith healer - old fat woman who looks like a fortune teller, in same location as SNES version 4. Talk to mayor's wife in huge yellow house 5. Talk to cleric & mayor in church 6. Talk to guy in NW house again 7. Go to mayors house, get a scroll and some money for equipment 8. Buy a sword, armor, and a shield, equip them, then you can enter the Gold Cave. If you did everything right, the guards won't be blocking the steps Gold Cave 1. Layout is almost exactly the same as SNES version. Get 10GP, 20GP chests on first floor. 2. Second floor has the Healing Pot, then get Giles on the roof. Breathe a sigh of relief here as you do not need to escort him out! 3. Go back to Atland and get the um, knife, from the faith healer/fortune teller to open Samson's door 4. Fight Samson and be done with the cave, you'll get the Fire Crystal but can't do anything with it (yet) Elf Field 1. You'll notice first off this is uniquely different music. Also there are two elves blocking the way into Voloh. Return to Atland (yes, you ARE allowed!) and get some bread from your mother/sister 2. Go back and one elf will be gone so you can get in Voloh. This is also different music, rather upbeat instead of melancholy as in the SNES game 3. Talk to Mathias and the Elder, pretty similar to the SNES version, except there is no hunt for tablets and you won't even know Thor 4. Talk to Zerah (!) at the back of the village, then leave for Philips Castle Philips Castle 1. This is going to be incredibly different! Find the first elf on the red floor, get the Shiny Stone where Gold Armor WOULD be 2. Go out on the roof and get the Large Shield (essentially same spot), talk to the stranded woman (Wtf?), get the prison keys 3. Backtrack and enter the basement (gold floor). The Gold Armor is here instead of on the red floor. There is also a chest with 100GP 4. Give the Movable Mantle to the elves like in the SNES version. Note: Both times I have played this game, I have forgotten to get it or not sure what exactly you need to do to get the elder to give it to you, which means I go all the way through the castle and forget it. But I DO know when you first visit Voloh, he does not give it to you. 5. Go back on the roof and fight Natela, netting you the Silver Sword Dwarf Desert/Senegul 1. Nothing in the desert so head directly to Senegul 2. The store choices are the Sonic Armor, Great Shield, and Elixir - make sure you get the first two but forget the Elixir, you will find plenty 3. Head to the Dwarf Cave Dwarf Cave 1. Layout is the same as SNES. Note there is no unique music here. 2. Grab the Magic Sword near where you drop in - who is that guy? I have no idea but you will see him again, talk to him though 3. Objective is the same, get the Moon Stone and bring it to that guy in Senegul 4. Make sure to get the Wind Crystal and Protection Ring as well 5. Back in Denegul, get the Sky Staff from some old guy and the Freezing Pot from the guy you saved in the cave, he's near the woman who says "I'M SO BUSY" in the SNES version 6. Return to the cave, use the Freezing Pot on the lava, witness a scene with Ferisia and Thor (his abrupt appearance gets me every time) 7. Boss fight: Eardon. Ella is NOT in this game so it looks like Thor might "own" it Hobbit Valley 1. A block of Japanese text will come up, this is your cue to put disk 3 into the second slot (always leave disk 5 in the first one) 2. Head to Poper. You can go ahead and talk to the spirits in the basement now. As far as I can tell, there is no "Mint", you cannot save the people in this version. I wonder though if some of the extra items you get can be traded along the way? I will have to look into it further. But it's not necessary to progress. Get the Star Staff from one of the spirits. You won't need a key to fight Duma. 3. Go west to Siegfrid Castle Siegfrid Castle 1. This place is hard at first, so try not to die. However it is also the same layout so you shouldn't get lost. I would get the Force Sword on the ground floor before anything else and the Defensive Ring is just below Duma's door, then head to the basement 2. Procure the Thunder Armor, Maxim Shield, Power Ring 3. Talk to some priest...again this might be important but I did not get to mess around with it to see what his purpose is 4. I went back to Poper to see if I had set off something that would allow me to save the people from the plague, but you don't need to bother 5. Fight Duma (wow! does this sprite ever look so much better!), get Water Crystal 6. Continue through the castle to the door that will be open now on the far left side 7. No idea who the guy is you meet in the hall, yet another mystery. Watch an amazing cut scene with Thor/Lagoon Castle and warp to Lilaty Lilaty 1. Talk to everyone and make sure to get the Angel's Bell, Fur Mantle (none of that Truth Fire shit). It appears Nassel's sister Reia is here for whatever reason so talk to her before you leave. 2. Enter the Ice Cave. Ice Cave 1. The music in Lilaty and this place make me very uncomfortable. I got lost in this place so much as a kid that it left a bad taste in my mouth. It appears this again has the same layout as the SNES version but the chests are different. There's a larger shiny stone type of object (I never needed to use anything so I am not sure of the use). There's an Elixir, just in a different spot. You'll see in my video, if you already have the item and you get another one, it will use it - just like in the game Soul Blazer. Finally, you can get the 300GOLD if you want, but at this point, it is completely useless. 2. Fight Thimale and get the Life Ball 3. Head north and talk to the Nymphs. You'll receive the Moon Staff and be blown to Phantom Hill Phantom Hill 1. First insert the final disk, number 4 2. No boss here (no Ella, remember?), make your way to the peak just as in the SNES version and watch the cut scene between Mathias and Zerah. You'll get the Thunder Crystal from a dying Zerah, apparently 3. You will end up on the Cloud, SAVE, and carefully make your way north until you see the land and jump down to it...again...CAREFULLY Lagoon Castle 1. This is incredibly different, although a lot of the layout is the same. There are Elixirs and Shiny Stones scattered throughout, get them if you really want to. I got a little lost at first, but finally looked at my old video and figured out what to do! That guy is on the first (red) floor, probably involved in the items trade that I don't understand. 2. Get to the second (brown) floor, find the King & Queen and get their 3000GOLD - utterly worthless. 3. The blue/gray floor is exactly the same as the SNES version. No enemies and you basically want to go as far left as possible 4. On the purple floor, you'll see some energy beams blocking the path. On either side of those, going north, you can find the Moon Shield and the Moon Armor. Then locate Ferisia in the same location she is in, the mirror, in the SNES version. You don't need to break her out, simply speak to her. Apparently she dissolves the energy beams for they will be gone after that 5. Before you continue, head all the way back to the beginning and get the Moon Blade from the room where you would use the Moon Stone in the SNES game. It's basically off the red (first) floor, but there is a shortcut from the third floor (blue/gray), as shown in my video 6. Now get back to where the beams were on the purple floor and go through that door to the fifth floor, which is dark blue 7. The Curing Ring and an Elixir are on this floor but follow it to the end for a boss fight 8. Kill Battler and I guess just fall off the platform to get to the Secret Place...I thought I died! Secret Place 1. The old dude gives you, I think, the Bright Stone. I did not use it. That fills up MP in the SNES version. 2. I have not found a Time Ring here, which is in the SNES version, so I don't know if it exists. The layout seems to be the same. Just go down and left and then back up a little basically and it's the final boss fight. I love the unique music in this place! 3. Seriously different fight - the evil spirit has several weird forms and then you'll fight Thor & his bird and that's that. Enjoy the ending, as it is world's better than the SNES version! If you are wondering why I called some things by different name or spelling, the credits should clear that up. Hope I could help in some way, shape, or form. I personally have a LOT of love for this game!
