Shooting -------- 1) X Button 3: Start the Shot 2) X Button 3: Determine the Power/Distance 3) X Button 3: Determine the Shot's Point Power Gauge Shot Point v--------------------------------v---- | | | ------------------------------=====-- ^^^^^ Meet Area The MAX distance is the farthest point to the left, so if you want to destroy the ball, go there. The straightest the ball can go is ON the shot-point, so ALWAYS aim there. If you miss the shot point to the left, the ball will go to the right. If you miss the shot point to the right, the ball will go to the left. However, if you completely miss the Meet Area, the ball will only fly for a few yards because you missed the ball. Wind Power/Direction -------------------- Located on the upper right of the screen, marked with an arrow, you can judge the wind power and distance and see how it could affect your shot. The more powerful the winds (in 'm'), the more influence it will have on your shot. The longer your shot is, the more influence the wind will have. (down): Wind Facing You (up): Wind going with you (left): Wind goes to the left (right): Wind goes to the right Weather ------- Located above the Wind Arrow on the upper right corner, the weather has only two conditions: Sunny and Rainy. Sunny is like the normal, ideal conditions, but Rainy makes the air heavy and greens wet as heck. Rainy conditions can take off about 10 percent of your shot's power. So if you shot with 300 yards worth of power, you will only get about 270 yards out of it. (yellow sun): Sunny (umbrella): Rainy Lie and Shot Power Transfer --------------------------- Depending on where your Lie is at, your Power Transfer will change. To see the Power Transfer percentage, look at the percentage under the ball on the lower right corner. If you got onto a bunker, you will get about 40%-80% power transfer, depending on your club choice. The list: Tee Shot: 100% Fairway: 95% Semi-Rough: 92% Rough: 60%-80% (depending on length of rough) Bunker: 40%-80% (depending on depth of sand and club choice) Green: 97% Examples on the mathematics of the Shot Power Transfer (from the manual): Distance Calculations *In calm conditions* -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Example 1: Rough/85% lie, and you shoot 100% on the 200 yards wood: | | 200 x 85% = 170 yards | | | | Example 2: Bunker/50% lie, you shoot with 50% of the 100-yard Iron: | | 100 x 50% = 50 Yards >>>> 50 x 50% = 25 yards | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Putting ------- When a green has a ">>" on top of it, that means the green is going downhill in that direction. The thicker the arrow is, the more steep the inclination is. So, adjust your shot accordingly. If there is no slopes on the way to the hole, just go straight, of course. A tip: Always putt with 1 meter MORE than the actual distance to the hole. It'll offset some errors of under-shooting. Also: If the hole is over 10m from you, just press X Button 4 to enlarge the distance from 10m to 30m. Do it again to get to 60m. Doing it once again will revert it back to 10m. To Putt: 1) X Button 3: Start the Shot 2) X Button 3: Determine the Power/Distance Putting does not have a Meet Area. Therefore, your putt will always go up straight. Impact Point ------------ (from the manual) At the beginning of the shot, when you select the points for your shot, you can use the Y Buttons to change the way the ball turns. On the lie part of the screen, you can see the cursor for this on the ball. When two Y Buttons are pressed down simulateously at the swing, the spin of the ball will be changed also. For example, when you press the Y Buttons 1 and 2, you will get topspin AND spin to the left (like number 5 below). _ ,'`1`', 1. Topspin `5 ` 2. Back Spin |3 4| 3. Left Turn ` ` 4. Right Turn `',2,'` 5. Topspin + Left Turn Game Rules ---------- Match Play - You and an opponent will duke it out hole-by-hole. To win the match, you have to win more holes than the other person. To win a hole, you have to get into the hole in less strokes than the other person would do. If the players gets the same number of strokes, the hole is a draw and the duo move on. If one of the players is in a situation that it is ABSOLUTELY NECCESSARY for him to win the hole, it is called a "Dormie Hole". For example, a guy is down 4 holes with 4 holes to go, that means he has to WIN the remaining holes or he will lose. the holes will be the dormie holes. Stroke Play - Simple rules here. The guy with the lowest overall score wins. Mini-Battle - Two contests here: Distance and Closest-to-Pin contests. In the Distance contests, which will only take place in Par 5s, the opponents will try to get the farthest drive from the tee. The person with the farthest drive wins. The drive will not count if it does not land on a fairway. As for the Closest-to-Pin contests, it will only happen on Par 3s. If the ball does no land on the green, it will not be counted. ============================================================================= 3. Most of the holes are straight ones, almost no doglegs or anything daunting. There is no hole that is more than 500 yards away from the tee. Enough for the bashing. This is a good practice place, but this should not be used to get hard characters because they would probably birdie most of the holes and how are you going to win if they birdies too much??? The greens are TOO easy!!!!! Man! (Oops... I bashed again) The tournament here requires you to get at least -4 ot -5 to win. Not too bad. -------------------------- Hole 4 - Par 3 - 204 Yards -------------------------- Not difficult, but you should know that you can access close quarters to this tough pin by using the back-spin. Aim for the back of the green and use back- spin to minimize the ball bounce. -------------------------- Hole 5 - Par 5 - 395 yards -------------------------- This is kind of a trick hole. Par 5 and under 400 yards? Bah. Just aim for the back of the FIRST fairway. If you hit the ball into the extreme end of the fairway, you should have an excellent view to the hole, with less than 200 yards to the hole. Getting on the hole on the 2nd shot will give you an eagle chance! Boo-yah! -------------------------- Hole 8 - Par 3 - 159 yards -------------------------- *This info applies only when the pin is located at the right side of the green, not on the left* Don't worry about going for the pin. Just go for the BACK of the green because from there you have a flat path to the pin. Going for the pin will most likely cause you trouble like the sand trap. --------------------------- Hole 10 - Par 4 - 300 yards --------------------------- Just as you know... it is VERY possible to reach the green in ONE if you use a powerful strokeman such as Chuck or Baba. If you can, do it! Don't worry about the sand traps, because if you land in it, you have a short way to the green anyway. If you opted to use a weak golfer, just go with the safe way: fairway then green. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- アルプスゴルフクラブ : Alps Golf Club Fall in love with the giant! There are some more obstacles such as well-placed bunkers, so make use of your backspin to allow you to fly over them to the green and still be able to stay on the green. Some doglegs exists here, so don't go wild with your drive and land on the rough. Like the previous course, you need about -4 to -5 to win the tournament. -------------------------- Hole 5 - Par 3 - 169 yards -------------------------- Looks like a standard Par 3, and it is. However, the pin usually is at the middle of the green, between two slopes. So always try to aim for the small flat row in the middle. That will make your putting easier. -------------------------- Hole 8 - Par 5 - 482 yards -------------------------- Watch out! There are some trees ON the fairway, about 300 yards away from the tee. So, you can either try to slip between them and through with a powerful shot, or just take the safe path: land well before the grove of trees and shoot over them on the next shot. For a weak shooter, I would of course pick the second option. But it's up to you. You can easily reach the green either way anyway. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ココナツゴルフリゾート : Kokonatsu Golf Resort Enjoy the pleasant sea breeze!! The most notable thing about this is that the greens are VERY difficult to navigate. There are many arrows coming from every direction on the greens. The fairways are more thinner and more water hazards start to pop up. This is where your greatness have to kick in. This place is an excellent place to face your opponents because most of them might make it to the green fast, but very few of them can conquer the greens! The tourney's winner took about -5 to -6 to win it. Beat him! -------------------------- Hole 2 - Par 4 - 376 yards -------------------------- Common sense, but I'll tell you anyway. There is a fairway to the right of the island with the tee. The fairway WITH the tee is about 300 yards away from the tee, so don't risk trying to reach the island in one. Just go right and put the ball in the fairway there. You will have an easy shot getting to the green anyway. -------------------------- Hole 6 - Par 4 - 336 yards -------------------------- There's a river dividing the fairways. Strong shooters might want to go over the river, but I say NO! If you stop before the river, you only got like 190 yards to go. Better safe than sorry, y'know. -------------------------- Hole 9 - Par 5 - 555 yards -------------------------- This is probably the first hole that you have TO use a Power shot, no matter who you are using, to get to the green in 2. My recommendation: do it! Use the power shots to get to the green in two and hope for a good eagle chance. The route to the green is pretty hard, however. The fairway is shallow, so make your aim true. Also, the green is lipped by a large bunker, so make sure you have a shot that goes way over the bunker and has backspin to slow it down before it goes out off the other side. --------------------------- Hole 10 - Par 4 - 469 yards --------------------------- Should've been a Par 5, but whatever. There is a small gap between the first two fairways filled with water. I suggest you to try to get over it with a strong shooter's Power Shot. If you got a weak shooter that won't make it over, then stop before the water BUT you have a DIFFICULT path to the green. You can reach there, but it's nearly impossible to STOP there. The green is tiny... I recommend you to enter via the right, where the fairway is, not over the middle, over the bunker. Drop the ball on the fairway and let it bounce onto the green. That's my suggestion. :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ナムコカントリークラブ : Namco Country Club A Mysterious spot!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- (unlocked after winning the tour of Kokonatsu Golf Resort) Hole | Par | Yards -------------------------- 1 | 4 | 308 2 | 5 | 526 3 | 3 | 197 4 | 4 | 385 5 | 4 | 352 6 | 4 | 333 7 | 5 | 363 8 | 4 | 403 9 | 3 | 168 OUT | 36 | 3035 10 | 5 | 537 11 | 4 | 341 12 | 4 | 349 13 | 4 | 344 14 | 3 | 203 15 | 3 | 197 16 | 4 | 399 17 | 5 | 505 18 | 4 | 512 IN | 36 | 3387 TOTAL | 72 | 6422 -------------------- About This Course... -------------------- The most difficult course in the game, of course. The Par 5s ARE Par 5s, with the great length they possess. The Par 3s has devilishly tiny greens, and Par 4s are... just too weird. There are some Namco characters making cameos on these holes. Check them out. Most of the holes here has creative and unique obstacles that you won't see on a real course. Be careful and look around! You need about -6 ot -7 to win the championship! Good luck! -------------------------- Hole 1 - Par 4 - 308 yards -------------------------- This hole looks like Mr. Driller, actually. Just press X Button 1 and take a look around. Anyway, this can be tough one. You have to go to the left or right to reach a good fairway (or even the middle, on the drill) and you still have to risk getting into the abundant rough. You shouldn't! With a strong golfer, you should be able to reach the green in one shot, since it's only 308 yards! Also, if you can't reach it in one, don't worry, just go for it anyway because landing on the rough before it will still give you a good second shot at the green. Which do you want? A rough shot from 150 yards away or a rough shot from 40 yards away? Thought so! -------------------------- Hole 2 - Par 5 - 526 yards -------------------------- Not tough, but be wary of the trees scattered around the course! If you find yourself behind one, just shoot around it and spin the ball left/right to help you get back on track. -------------------------- Hole 3 - Par 3 - 197 yards -------------------------- Ooh boy... a tiny green surrounded completely by a bunker! Aim for the place behind the pin (about 195-200yd worth of power in your shot) and use back- spin to pull you back. That's ONLY if there's no wind. :) Don't worry if you get into the bunker, the putting here is easy enough to get you a Par. -------------------------- Hole 4 - Par 4 - 385 yards -------------------------- No major fairways here... only small dots of nicely-shaven grass all around here. The small fairway to go for is the one directly front of you, 200 yards away. It has three trees, all on the right side. Aim for the left side... That place is the easiest place to get a fairway hit, rather than the distant ones that give you smaller margin for errors. -------------------------- Hole 6 - Par 4 - 333 yards -------------------------- I JUST KNOW IT... The place around the tee and the first fairway has FAMILIAR shapes, but I can't quite lay a finger on the name. It looked like Bomberman one time, then it looked like dogs! Anyone know? Anyway, just go for the first fairway, the one with two batches of trees making the eyes of the creature. Don't get trapped behind the trees! Use that as an island to get you over to the green. USE BACKSPIN! There is a moat around the green so you can't afford going too far. -------------------------- Hole 7 - Par 5 - 363 yards -------------------------- Heh.. I like this!!! The courses zig-zags from one side to another. Just get your 1W to its Power Shot and go to the right, and you should find an elbow of the fairwa, wide open. Shoot the ball there and you will have an EASY shot to the green for an eagle attempt! Whoo! --------------------------- Hole 10 - Par 5 - 537 yards --------------------------- DAMN... you better hope there's little to no wind going for you right now, because you don't need it now! This hole is all fairway straight up, all 537 yards of it. The fairway is laced with trees on the sides, so that leaves you with a VERY TINY path! If you misfire, you'll find yourself behind a tree! Just go straight with an iron and continue going with an iron (2I is best). Reach the green in 3 instead of 2 because of the risk. --------------------------- Hole 13 - Par 4 - 344 yards --------------------------- This looks like a mouse or a rabbit. What Namco character could it be...? Anyone know? Please tell me if you know, thanks! Anyway, this is pretty tough. There's almost no fairways, and when there is, it's too small! I say go for the double fairways above the face bunker in the middle if you're strong enough or the wind permits you. If not, go for the rough to the right of the fairways. You will be able to reach the green either way. Don't get into trouble with the bunker! (Actually, I don't think the big white thing is a bunker... it might be a solid obstacle...) --------------------------- Hole 17 - Par 5 - 505 yards --------------------------- It is impossible to reach the green in two here, no matter who you are using. You have to 'fairway-hop' to the green. There are two fairways here, one near you, to the left, and one to the right, farther away. Go to the left fairway, of course, which is about 190 yards away. Then, whip the same club you just used to reach the second fairway, to the right, since the distance is about the same. The rest of the way is yours! --------------------------- Hole 18 - Par 4 - 512 yards --------------------------- Guess who this guy on the field is? That's right, Pac-Man! You can either use his mouth or feet (both fairways) to reach the green, or have an easier shot at it by reaching the left hand first, but that might be dangerous since it is surrounded by water. Either way is fine. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ミニコース : Mini-Course 9-hole blitz! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hole | Par | Yards -------------------------- 1 | 3 | 146 2 | 3 | 207 3 | 3 | 177 4 | 3 | 165 5 | 3 | 159 6 | 3 | 184 7 | 3 | 196 8 | 3 | 149 9 | 3 | 161 TOTAL | 27 | 1544 -------------------- About This Course... -------------------- Nothing much I can really say, since it's all about pitch-and-putt skills. Just look at the green and find the best spot for you to land. On Hole 5, the entire green is FLAT, so don't worry about picking a spot. Just don't over or under-swing. Just get on the damn green. Using the backspin is good, especially when you're trying to hug the green by jumping over a bunker or two. All of the holes are from the par 3s of the four main courses. Also, it is a good idea if you used a guy with excellent control instead of a guy with brute power because you won't be needing power AT ALL here. :) Go for a -9 score! ============================================================================= 6. Beat the first two and you will unlock Chuck Morris. His drive is god-like, and it will help you in the Tours and getting the other characters. --Then get the third course (Kokonatsu) Kokonatsu has a very dangerous course layout and crazy greens. They might be hell for you, but they will be for your opponents also. So, with Chuck Morris, you can beat the characters you want quite easier. If you used one of the first two, the other guys would probably overwhelm you with birdies. So get the third course with Chuck Morris and you should be fine. --Then defeat the old man (Gary Koch) His stats is similar to Chuck's, but he has a longer drive. He is the 8th character you can unlock (6th after Chuck), so you have a way to go. When you get him, he should be your favorite player. If you want. :) --Get the rest of the characters and the final course. The game's yours! :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Use Backspin often to tackle the greens with pins by the fringes Is the pin on the near end of the green, making it impossible for you to get close there, since you would have to cross over a bunker? Just aim for the pin and use Backspin to minimize the bounce. Advance players should aim for the ROUGH between the bunker and the green to slow the balls down. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Remember to shoot and putt a bit more stronger when it is raining Raining will take off approximately 10% of your shot's strength, and a bit more (15%) for putting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Watch your opponent When in Match Play or Stroke or whatever and you have your opponent shooting before you, but in a similar position as you are right now, STUDY the opponent's shot. How strong did he swing? Backspin or not? Towards where? If he missed the green or made a bad shot, then you would know what NOT to do. If he made an excellent shot, try to duplicate it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Always check the green and the slopes around the pin With the X Button 1, you can move the camera around and take a close look at the green, even if you arent close to it. Check the field around the pin and decide which spot is best for you. Flat surfaces are the best, so aim for them. If the green above the pin is flat, and the surface below it is bumpy, aim for the upper green since that will make your putting easier? The characters you get, IN ORDER are: Reiko Nagase Chuck Morris Kaoru Tendou Fumio Enomoto Ken Tatakeda Baba Mohei John Ozz Gary Koch Valkyrie Hori Susumu (Mr. Driller) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Unlockable Courses TO unlock a course, just win the preceding course's Tour. So if you want the final course, you'll have to win the course before it. Getting 2nd place or lower will NOT get you anything. The courses you can get, IN ORDER: Alps Golf Club Kokonatsu Golf Resort Namco Country Club ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Unlockable Equipment If you go to the Character Select and press X Button 2, you will be brought to the Equipment Screen. You will see there are four slots for each piece of equipment: balls, club, shoes, and gloves. However, the only way to get them is to download them with a WonderGate. I don't have it so I don't know. According to the manual (look into the Manual Translation I made on www.GameFAQs.com), the new equipment would give you statistical boosts. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- --Re-Do a Hole A cheap trick, but whatever. Choke on a shot or ****ed up? Just save and exit the match and return via the save and you will be back to the place where you started, only this time you're going to start on the tee! Whoo! Useful if you need a win in Match Play. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- --"Congratulations" screen If you get all 10 secret characters, and go back to the "Character Get" mode again, the screen will show the "Congrats" screen with some players waving at you. You will not be able to access this mode anymore. ============================================================================= 8.
