Fin ============================================================================== 1. editor's note ============================================================================== Hi, here is the Manual Translation FAQ for Namco Wonder Classic for Bandai Wonderswan. This is a decent golfing game, and I plan to make a full FAQ for this game someday soon, when I unlock all of the characters and courses. I hope this manual translation will help you understand and learn some new things you didn't know before. I highly recommend you to read pages 2 to 24, and everything else is utter bandlerdash. The WonderGate (pages 25 to 33) feature sounds nice, but it's only available to the people in Japan (I think). But I added it because you never know, you might be the one that's in Japan! :p In some places, I added a "ED", meaning 'editor'. This is where I make a comment to help clear stuff up. Thanks! ============================================================================== 2. manual translation ============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 2 - WARNING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ! Take a look into your manual to make it a bit more easier. This info are mostly self-explanatory anyway. (p.7) Before Shooting - Checking -------------------------- • Weather You can check the weather via the weather indicator. Your shooting and putting can change because of weather. (yellow sun): Sunny (umbrella): Rainy • Wind Direction Wind can cause your shot's path to change directions. (down): Wind Facing You (up): Wind going with you (left): Wind goes to the left (right): Wind goes to the right One piece of Advice... ---------------------- When it is rainy, the grass gets wet and soddy. So, when it is raining, the putts will go slower so make it stronger to reach your destination. Also, be careful of winds! If the hole is farther away, the wind will have more impact on your ball's path. When there is strong wind, count your clubs to fit the shot into the occasion. (p.8) Lie and Shot's Power Transfer ----------------------------- When shooting, the conidtion of the ground will be shown. As the lie changes, the transfer percentage for your shot changes as well. As it changes, the distance your ball will change. Shot Transfer's Power Changes: Fairway: Near to MAX percentage (95%) Rough: As the depth of the Rough grows, the transfer will decrease Bunker: The transfer will greatly decrease, and it will decrease even further as the bunker deepens. Distance Calculations *In calm conditions* ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Example 1: Rough/85% lie, and you shoot 100% on the 200 yards wood: | | 200 x 85% = 170 yards | | | | Example 2: Bunker/50% lie, you shoot with 50% of the 100-yard Iron: | | 100 x 50% = 50 Yards >>>> 50 x 50% = 25 yards | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (p.9) Preparing a Shot ---------------- • Direction Select On the top of the screen, there is a cursor. With that, use the Y Buttons 1 and 3 to move the direction of your shot (and putt). Y Button 1: Move Cursor to the left Y Button 3: Move Cursor to the right • Club Select With Y Buttons 2 and 4, you can select your clubs. Y Button 2: Club number goes up. (3I to 2I, etc. - "up" as in stronger) Y Button 4: Club number goes down (7I to 8I to 9I, etc.) One piece of Advice... *In calm conditions* ---------------------- Choose a club before checking your direction. The place the cursor is at when you're shooting with 100% transfer power (on a tee) IS the place the ball will get there. As for the other places, you have to select them carefully. (p.10) • Shooting Mode Select With X Button 4, you can switch/change your shooting mode. With the ball 60 or more yards away from the pin: (red P): Power Shot (green M): Normal Shot With the ball 60 or less yards away from the pin: (blue A): 30-yard approach shot (MAX yards can vary) (blue A): 60-yard approach shot (MAX yards can vary) (green M): Normal Shot On the Green (Putting): (green S): 10-meter Putt (green M): 30-meter Putt (green L): 60-meter Putt WARNING!! --------- You only have 6 Power Shots in a round! Don't use all of them up... You can see how many Power Shots you have left by looking at the number to the left of the Club picture. (p.11) Shooting -------- After deciding on your direction and club, you can return to the shot screen with the X Button 3. Here, you can shoot. The act of shooting depends on the Shot Gauge. (ED: The manual says X Button 1, but I believe it is a typo or an error since you shoot with the X Button 3.) 1) X Button 3: Start the Shot 2) X Button 3: Determine the Power/Distance 3) X Button 3: Determine the Shot's Point Power Gauge Shot Point v--------------------------------v---- | | | ------------------------------=====-- ^^^^^ Meet Area WARNING!! --------- There is a "Meet Area" for the Shot Point. Anywhere outside of this area, it is a missed shot. Also, the ball will change as the position of the meet area changes. For more information, refer to Page 13. If you get the max power and the very middle of the Meet Area, you will see a "Nice Shot" appear on the screen. (p.12) Putting ------- After deciding on your direction, you can return to the shot screen with the X Button 3. Here, you can putt. The act of putting depends on the Putt Gauge. (ED: Again, the manual says X Button 1, but I believe it is a typo or an error since you shoot with the X Button 3.) 1) X Button 3: Start the Shot 2) X Button 3: Determine the Power/Distance Putting does not have a Meet Area. Therefore, your putt will always go up straight. Green Slopes: When a green has a ">>" on top of it, that means the green is going downhill in that direction. The thicker the arrow is, the more steep the inclination is. (p.12) One piece of Advice... ---------------------- About the Meet Area! 1. Stop before the middle of the Meet Area > The ball goes to the right 2. Stop on the middle of the Meet Area > The ball goes straight 3. Stop after the middle of the Meet Area > The ball goes to the left Impact Point ------------ At the beginning of the shot, when you select the points for your shot, you can use the Y Buttons to change the way the ball turns. On the lie part of the screen, you can see the cursor for this on the ball. When two Y Buttons are pressed down simulateously at the swing, the spin of the ball will be changed also. For example, when you press the Y Buttons 1 and 2, you will get topspin AND spin to the left (like number 5 below). _ ,'`1`', 1. Topspin `5 ` 2. Back Spin |3 4| 3. Left Turn ` ` 4. Right Turn `',2,'` 5. Topspin + Left Turn ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PAGE 14 - SYSTEM WINDOWS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ During play, pressing X Button 2 will cause the System Window to show up. Training -------- At Training, you can adjust the wind direction and speed and weather as it pleases you. Use Y Buttons 2 and 4 to select modes, and Y Buttons 1 and 3 to change stats. Weather (Tenkou): Sunny or rainy can be selected. Direction (Kazamuki): You can change the direction 360 degrees. Wind Power (Fuuryoku): The winds can be from 0 to 15 mph.
