Here they are: Q. I keep being KO’d when I do the difficult levels. Why? A. There are a few reasons. 1. You are not leveled up 2. You do not have the sufficient equipment 3. Did you learn how to parry, roll from danger and strafe enemy attacks? Q. My combo count keeps going to zero after less than 1 second! What do I do?? A. Simple. Just keep defeating more enemies! There is a hidden timer gauge where the meter goes up when you defeat enemies. The combo goes to 0 when you are hit by an enemy. Q. There’s too many enemies to handle! What do I do??? A. There will be times that discretion is the better part of valour in any game from hack and slash to RPGs. When you are surrounded by enemies that will easily own you will have to retreat so you can reform your plans to avoid a defeat. However, a retreat does not GUARANTEE that you will avoid them but you may encounter more of the numbers in soldiers/men overall. Q. What is the easiest gameplay to play on the Wii... The Classic Controller PRO or the Wii Remote and Nunchuck? A. Simple. The Classic Controller PRO. Easier to play with and you don't have to memorise too many buttons on the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. But the gameplay is up to you. Q. When I finish the level, what does the ?????? mean? A. These are the optional quests for Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes. In order to obtain credibility, you must meet a certain criteria or defeat a certain foe in the game. Not only they are difficult to find, they rack up a lot of EXP for your character and is suitable for levelling up characters. Usually, they are highlighted in yellow. They will be explained throughout the guide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.4 Similarities and Differences between the Wii Version and the PS3 version For Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, there are two versions: The Wii and the PS3 version. There are a few similarities and differences to both games based on its main console platform and their design: Similarities: - Same characters and their movesets. - Same items, equipments and objectives. - No dual language option (i.e. No Japanese audio sub guys!) Differences: - For achievements, the Wii will display your achievements in the gallery section while the PS3 has their own achievements via a trophy collection. - No online Wifi gameplay for the Wii whereas the PS3 has Wifi gameplay. - PS3 has better graphics. - PS3 uses one controller whereas Wii uses two types of controllers: The Wii remote and nunchuck or the Classic Controller (Pro) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Basics, Gameplay controls and Advanced techniques 2.1 Basics In Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, it is a lot different to the Samurai Warriors or Dynasty Warriors series except with a few differences: -You are given no items to use off or on hand. -Comboing enemies are a lot harder and requires practice as the combo meter can reset back to 0 if you are hit by an enemy. -You choose your own path that can change Japan's nation through Heroes' Mode (There are alternate paths to choose from) (more information will be coming soon!) 2.2 Gameplay controls Wii Remote and nunchuck A- Normal Attack B- Power/Finisher Attack C button- Jump/Recover/ Get on a horse Z- Block Nunchuck control stick- move (tap twice to run) - Button- Heroes Arts Swing Remote- Basara Arts 1 Button- Taunt/Ally Assist attack ability Combination techniques Movement + B - Use Character's second ability A + B - Use Character's Fourth ability Z + B - Use Character's Third ability Z + A + B - Character's Super Art (When Unlocked) Classic Controller PRO L- Guard/Block/Parry (Use the left control stick or the directional pad to strafe) R- Use character's third ability ZL- Heroes Arts (Explained later) ZR- Character's Super Art (When unlocked) Left control stick/Directional pad- movement (tap twice to run) Right control stick- Camera Angle X- Normal Attack (First ability) Y- Power/Finisher Attack A- Basara Arts (Explained later) B- Jump/Get on a horse L + X- Use character's fourth ability Movement + X - Use character's second ability ZL + A - Ultimate Basara Arts + - Pause game - - Taunt/Ally Assist ability 2.2 Advanced techniques Heroes Arts Heroes Arts allows your chosen character to slow the flow of time to deal major damage to groups of enemies or one tough enemy officer for a limited. amount of time It can be filled by defeating enemies, officers and occupying camps as well as equipping accessories that can enhance your character's weapon. But be careful, it should be used in a tight situation otherwise you may lose the advantage in a difficult boss battle that can cost you your victory in a level. You can refill them through items in the game in the levels. Every Five KOs you make will add an extra two seconds to the gauge. You can also perform other actions during the time to keep the gauge active as well as use the Basara arts. Every Fifty KOs will power up your gauge and increase the Zenny multiplier. Basara Arts Basara Arts allows your chosen character to perform devastating combos and KOs on enemies. Like the Heroes Arts gauge it can be filled by defeating enemies, officers and occupying camps as well as equipping accessories that can enhance your character's weapon. It can also be filled automatically when your HP is at critical. To ensure its working, you should hear a heartbeat in the background based on how much HP is remaining for your character. Ultimate Basara Arts Combine the Heroes Arts and the Basara Arts and you can perform major damage to groups of enemies or one tough enemy officer for a limited amount of time. However, you must press the button combination on your controller properly otherwise it may screw your chances on winning for a bit. It is a make or break ability you can use that can turn the tide in battle. Blocking/Strafing I know this is a basic technique but I can't stress enough to say, "Prioritise strafing!" because there will be enemy bosses that will deal devastating damage to you if you do not learn to block your enemy attacks that can cost you your chances of winning in the later levels of the game. You can also strafe by holding the block button and using the movement control to get out of harm's way. It can save you from a tight situation. Duel To engage in a duel, you must keep on pressing the attack button for a consecutive amount of times until you will see a gauge. To win the duel, you must mash the attack button all the way until the red is all gone in the gauge so you can deliver a powerful duel finish on an enemy. 2.3 How the combo system works The combo system is a lot different in Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes as it adds a degree of challenge to the player overall. The combo will build once you land a hit or more on enemy/s. However, if you are hit by an enemy or you do not hit another enemy for a pause of time (at least 0.5-1 seconds), it will reset the combo meter back to 0. Its similar to the shootemup genres that require you to keep the combo meter going to rack up the points. Here is the part where it gets interesting: You receive a judgment based on how many combos you rack up in battle and the bonuses you will receive. You will also see a multiplier at the bottom right hand screen where you can rack up more money funds just by defeating enemies! Here's how the combo flow works: 80-99 combos: Ready 100-199 combos: Nice! 200-299 combos: Awesome!! (x2 multiplier) 300-399 combos: Radical!!! (x3 multiplier) 400-499 combos: Basara!!!! (x4 multiplier) 500-999 combos: Frenzy!!!!! (x5 multiplier) 1000+ combos: Super Frenzy!!!!!!!!!! (x10 multiplier) Note: When you're in the Frenzy/Super Frenzy judgment, your combo meter will last for at least 1-2 seconds before it hits basara and at least 0.5-1 seconds before it resets back to 0. You will also receive Zennys for KOs made to enemies! So practice, practice, practice to earn more to purchases later in the game. Tip: When your Frenzy/Super Frenzy judgement goes back to Basara judgement, just rack up another 500 hits to keep the combo running! Just don't go over board that you may lose your time for another Frenzy/Super Frenzy judgement to run. 2.4 Important concepts in battle 2.4.1 Zennys What are Zennys? Zennys are the currency used in Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes. It is acquired in battle by breaking your boxes (blue coloured), defeating enemies normally or when they are in the Frenzy/Super Frenzy section in comboing groups of enemies. It can also be obtained by selling your weaponry that have a lower attack power than the other weapon (i.e. Weapon A is kept while Weapon B is sold because of its low attack power or Weapon A is sold for x no. of Zennys due to the other weapons are stronger than the others and so on and so forth.) Zennys are also acquired by the allies you have on battle if you meet specific conditions. (more on allies and their unique abilities are covered) Spending your Zennys Your Zennys are spent at the Basara Mart to create more accessories for your weapon to equip. So start saving your Zennys! 2.4.2 Materials Materials are items you find in treasured boxes during battle. There are common materials that can be found in most levels and some rare materials that can be found in unique levels. At first, you won't know what materials there are or their location to find them but once you unlock the level, you can go back as any character and farm for materials required to create your accessories. 2.4.3 Allies Allies are special officers in your army that help/assist you in battle when you are within radius. They add special effects such as attack up or defence up and reward you for meeting certain criteria within battle. As you use allies more, you level them up if you manage to achieve victory in battle. The maximum you can go for levelling allies up is "Ability+". This means that the effect is stronger than the usual ability based on the confidence level. Thus you must level them up five times to get the "+" in their ability. Its mostly here for fun but you can choose what you want them to wear in battle for laughs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Gameplay and such 3.1 Heroes' Story Heroes' Story follows the characters' story on how it changes the nation of Japan based on the actions you make. Forces will be defeated and alliances formed during the gameplay so pay close attention as you may verse an unexpected surprise... Level Difficulty Easy- The computer AI is not so strong and you will not take frequent damage from normal and powerful enemies. However, you will not gain as much EXP in the process but a great way for beginners. Normal- The battle AI is not too harsh or too easy. You will receive the standard EXP from defeating enemies. You will still obtain your weapons and accessories based on the Hatena boxes you find in battles and in certain areas. (EXP Bonus: x1.5), (EXP Bonus with Sunglasses: x2) Hard- The battle AI is cruel and you will take more damage from regular attacks and more damage from their devastating basara attacks. Be sure to block the attacks at all costs as it can cost you if you do not prioritise strafing and blocking. But at the end, you will receive a better chance of better weapons and better chances of materials and accessories. Note: Bosses will have a more powerful weapon to use. (EXP Bonus: x2), (EXP Bonus with Sunglasses: x2.5) Recommendation of attempting hard: Less than 30: Avoid at all costs! DO NOT even think about attempting this on hard! It would take a miracle to finish at least one battle on hard at lvl 30 or less! E.g. One Bomb attack can take a major chunk of your health if you are not careful! Level 30-55: Attempt with caution. It is best to have the best equipment and accessories equipped. Level 60-70+: The best way of doing hard. By now, you should have at least have trained them, powered them up as well as finish their routes at least once for them. 3.1.1 Battles In this section, it will be a summarised version of all the battles you can play in Sengoku Basara. It will reveal all the bonuses and the objectives in the game you have to do to obtain victory for your character. 3.1.2 Equip In this section, you can choose to your weapons or accessories to your weapons to enhance the effects dealt on enemies. You can also equip the character's unique ability (once unlocked at lvl 30, 40, 50) and view all your abilities you can use (unlock 2nd ability at lvl 5 and 3rd at lvl 20) 3.1.3 Basara Mart Here it is. The one shop that sells all your weapon enhancement needs: The Basara Mart! At the Basara Mart, you can create accessories based on how much Zennys and materials you have in stock. Some accessories will require normal materials and unique materials you have obtained within battle as you progress. At the start, you technically cannot use the Basara Mart when you first play the game since you have no materials or Zennys in stock!!!! You will also unlock accessory creations as you progress throughout the game so be sure to visit frequently! WARNING: All materials used to make the accessory will not be refunded at the end when they're created. So choose wisely! If you want to undo the option, you can always load the most recent game by going into options and choosing "Load Game". 3.1.4 Guide Here you can review the tutorials for the game if you have missed out any important information as well as some controls. It will also display the paths for your characters you have played overall. 3.1.5 Options Here you can set options for the controls, save, as well as load your past gameplay save in case you have made any critical errors such as using a rare material for a special accessory or choosing the wrong path instead of the other path. 3.2 Quick Battles In quick battles, you can play as your favourite character on ANY difficulty level and on any battle you have unlocked throughout the game. You can also verse yourself and your own army as an extra laugh! You can also acclaim other materials needed for your accessory, complete hidden objectives, even find fugitives (if you're lucky to find them)! TIP: Look at the contents of the material so you can focus on which battles have the materials so you can create the accessory quicker. 3.2.1 Available battles There are a total of 38 battles to choose from. I will do a list soon of all campaigns and levels as well as a walkthroughs in development. Stay tuned! Here are the current list of all the battles to choose from: Mount Osore Dragon Race at Oshu Siege of Hasedo Castle Headstrong at Kubota Battle of Kannagawa Kawanakajima Tundra Flooding Ueda Castle Assault on Ueda Castle Odawara Castle Kaerikumo Castle Battle of Tetorigawa Cliffs of Mikatagahara The Last Stand Sekigahara - Betrayal Sekigahara - Schemes Sekigahara - Zero Hour Sekigahara - Assembly Sekigahara - Ultimate Sekigahara - Aftermath Sekigahara - Intrusion Kanegasaki Nightmare Siege of Kanegasaki Incident at Honno-ji Osaka: Winter Retaking Osaka Castle Osaka: Tiger Summer Osaka: Dragon Summer Saica Stronghold Siege of Karasu Castle Gassantoda Castle Battle of Itsukushima Nakatomigawa Fortress Battle at Noshima Pirates of Noshima Mines of Ishigakibaru Hetsugigawa: Memories Hetsugigawa: Heroes Ambush at Mimikawa 3.2.2 Fugitives Fugitives are hidden people with masks on their heads that tend to block your normal attacks and use their own abilities before they can make their escape. If you manage to KO a fugitive, they will drop an item that can permanently boost your attack, defence or luck by 600. You must be lucky to see one or you can find Hanzo Hattori to help look for fugitives. (see unlockables) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.3 Battle Walkthroughs These battle walkthroughs for all 38 battles will be explained normally for all characters that can be used in Sengoku Basara as well as explain what you may encounter from enemies, to camps and treasures. #1 Mount Osore Difficulty level: ** Enemies: Soldiers, soulful soldiers Victory Conditions: Defeat Harumasa Nanbu 2 Players Required: No Firstly, you will start at the north west end of the map. Make your way down to the first gate and you will see the first soulful armoured soldier. Defeat it quickly as the attacks may be devastating. When that is taken care of, the first gate will open and you can proceed onwards. You will encounter the camp but there is a twist. There is "Restorative Incense Burning" around the area. The incense has the power to bring the dead back to life and you must nullify the incense in order to defeat the soldiers immediately. You can either go for the incense jars or go for the camp to nullify everything in place. Repeat for all the camps. When all camps are occupied, head to the main front where you see Harumasa Nanbu resurrecting the soldiers himself. BOSS: Harumasa Nanbu Threat level: Medium Beware of his powers. Do not underestimate this powerful warrior... he can use the Basara to not just attack you, but to resurrect any soldiers that are KO'd in battle. Do not focus on the soldiers as he will revive them once his Basara is full. His normal attacks are his swordplay tricks and he can shoot a blue fireball that can be deflected. Be sure to mix your normal and special arts as well as your hero time and basara time to good use and you will be fine. Note: Be sure not to touch the souls of the soldiers you have defeated other- wise it will impair your movement slightly for a while. Special Objective #1: Find the Secret passageway To find the secret passageway, after securing the first of the three camps that will gain access to Nanbu, you can take the catapult to a secret area for treasure. There will be some soulful armoured soldiers, so be on your guard. Once you have defeated the enemies, move on and you will encounter a Great Hatena Box and several Zennys for the extra trouble and extra EXP. Special Objective #2: Defeat Nanbu before he summons anymore souls You must defeat Harumasa Nanbu before he summons anymore souls. This means DO NOT focus on the soldiers, and quickly focus on defeating him. Use the Ultimate Basara art and your abilities and you should be fine. Note: If you played as Oichi on the green path, he will join your allies list and you will receive the ability, "Live Forever" allowing you to revive once more after being KO'd. (Tip: When he gets to Live Forever+, he will revive you to 100%) #2 Dragon Race At Oshu Difficulty level: **** Enemies: Soldiers, Calvalry Victory Conditions: Defeat Masamune Date 2 Players Required: No This mission is slightly tougher than the others since you will have to use your horse for most of the mission. Firstly, make your way to the first camp, and occupy it. Be sure to defeat the officers for some hatena and great hatena boxes. Once the first camp is occupied, here is the important part. Find item boxes with water bottles and grab them to fill the Basara gauge. Try to fill it to maximum so you can have a pre-emptive boost when the race starts. Special Objective #1: Beat Masamune Date in a horse race. This part can be quite tricky if you aren't familiar to horse racing. What you need to do is to race Masamune Date in a race. Use the Basara attack on horse- back to ride very fast so you can overtake him and win. Along the way, you will encounter several neutral camps. Be sure to occupy them along the way to gain the advantage. The first one is easy to your left near the beginning of the race. Smash the drum and you will occupy the first one easily. Next, the second one will require you to time your jumping skills. My method on how to easily gain advantage of the second camp is to watch the movement and say "Jump!" at the edge. After the second camp, there will be a Water barrel that fills both health and basara partially. The Third camp is located near the finish line where you will face Kojuro Katakura at the end. To win, smash the drum to occupy the camp to win the special objective. Note: This objective is impossible for Yoshitsugu Otani to do! BOSS: Kojuro Katakura (1st encounter) Threat level: Medium Kojuro Katakura is fast and quick and tends to block your attacks for a while. You can easily use your normal and basara arts to finish him off but be ready to get on a horse and do another horseback race when his health is at critical you don't want to lose the advantage of the race and having to verse both at the end! Special Objective #2: Beat Kojuro Katakura before they rendevous at the end. Its similar to the first one except Kojuro can get in the way of stealing your items... When you are about to go for the mighty jump use your Basara horse- back attack and jump! You will do a mighty jump that will give you a major advantage as well as a Great Hatena Box and a Water barrel for your trouble. Be sure not to take the lead as you want to use your normal attacks and damage Kojuro as well along the way. By that time, his health should be at critical before he rendevous with Masamune. Note: This objective is impossible for Yoshitsugu Otani to do! BOSS: Masamune Date and Kojuro Katakura (If you failed the second objective) Threat: Medium-High Strategy for dealing with Masamune and Kojuro: If you failed to complete the second objective, you're in a disadvantage!!! You have to verse them both! Try to work quickly and as fast as you can to take Kojuro down before focusing all your attacks on Masamune. Its similar to the fight with Kojuro except you should watch out for Masamune's "Six Claws" technique. If you are using a range character, it should be no problem. However if you use a warrior type character, then you should be careful and block at all times. Tip: When Masamune uses his "Six Claws" technique, you can take the advantage to deal extra damage as you cannot defend against attacks as well as defence drops. Just make sure he doesn't get close to you and unleash his basara attack. Tip #2: To have an advantage, equip the Gray, Silver or Gold Riceballs access- ory (at least 3+) so you can have a quick charge of Basara as you will be using a lot of it during the race. #3 Siege at Hasedo Castle Difficulty level: ** Enemies: Soldiers, Shieldsmen, Soldiers, Archers Victory Conditions: Defeat Yoshiaki Mogami 2 Players Required: No (Yes if you want to cover more ground) You will first begin at the south east side of the map. First, run to the main bridge and watch the cutscene. Special Objective #1: Defend the boat until it reaches the end. You are going to need to work fast. Keep an eye on the boat's distance as you want them to get to the main goal. The main gates that open the passageway must be opened in the camps occupying the gates. When the boat makes it through the gates, their gate will open to access. Finally access the storehouse. Defeat the main camp and you will have access to the main gates. Now go for the remainder of the camps that are occupied by the enemy. If you have done it correctly, then you would have won the obje- ctive. Special Objective #2: Defeat the machima within less than 1 minute. After you past the final camp that has the drawbridge to Yoshiaki Mogami, jump up the steps and you will see a rare treasure chest containing a Great Hatena box. Now you will see a catapult that will take you to a secret area. Prepare to fight the machina. Extra boss: Drillatron Threat Level: High This machine can deal heavy damage on you if you're not careful. Dodge and prepare to counter. Watch the ground as when you see the earth forming around you, then its best to dodge now before its too late! Equip the machine seal and/or have an ally that assists you when there are machinery to help you deal with this machine. If you're running low on health, open the boxes for some health items. Follow the machine's patterns and you will be fine. BOSS: Yoshiaki Mogami Threat Level: Low This is a joke, right? Simple. His attacks can't barely put a dent on you if you use your attacks on him quickly. Be sure to dodge away from his tornado sword spin Basara attack when his gauge is full. At some times, it can cause an ice elemental attack on you if you are hit. #4 Headstrong at Kubota Difficulty level: *** Enemies: Soldiers, large soldiers, occupational chiefs. Victory Conditions: Defeat 2 Players Required: No Another easy battle where you can rack up more EXP and Zennys early in the game. Special Objective #1: Occupy all camps. You will need to occupy all three camps around the area in order to gain access into the Headstrong Academy. Then when you begin the boss battle, head up and you will see the final camp. Destroy it and you will receive the bonus. Special Objective #2: Defeat all Squad leaders. Destroy everything you see in your path. 'Nuff said. Be sure you cover EVERY single camp and ensure that no enemy squad leaders attack your camps so they can spawn more soldiers. BOSS: Yoshishige Threat Level: Low Another joke boss, right? Simple. His attacks can't barely put a dent on you if you use your attacks on him quickly. Be sure to dodge away from his Brawl attacks and his Basara attack when his gauge is full. If you use range attacks you should be fine. #5 Battle of Kannagawa #6 Kawanakajima Tundra Difficulty level: *** Enemies: Soldiers Victory Conditions: Defeat Kenshin Uesugi 2 Players Required: No Welcome to the icy lands of Kawanakajima! You will meet the God of War as well as two powerful warriors along the way! Firstly, walk up to the soldiers and defeat them immediately for some KO's and treasure. Next you have two options: go for the first special objective or verse Keiji Maeda. Special Objective #1: Find the secret passageway. Instead of turning left to verse Keiji Maeda, move straight forwards, turn right, then left until you reach a camp near a hidden passageway. Defeat the camp leader and you will obtain the special objective completion. Mini-Boss: Keiji Maeda/Keiji Maeda (2nd Encounter) Threat Level: Medium-Medium high A standard mini boss you can take down before versing another wimpy miniboss. He can use his giant sword to swipe you down but you can always counter his moves by striking back. There are health items such as riceballs and water bottles to help you in case you're in danger. However, be careful of his Basara move. It can do decent damage and great blowback if you don't block or you don't have an accessory to reduce the dizzy time or the effect of your dizzy, stun or paralyzed state. Follow these steps and you will be fine. If you versed him first, he will then retreat and you will have to fight him again. Otherwise, you can head back once you have gone through the secret passageway and defeat him. However, it will be longer to travel overall but its up to you on how you want to complete the mission. When you come across, Kanetsugu Naoe, defeat him easily with only 2-3 hits. However, save the red boxes for later as you will be coming back near the end when you are versing Kenshin Uesugi. Special Objective #2: Occupy all camps You must then occupy all the camps in order to gain all access as well as defeat Kasuga and Keiji Maeda so you can defeat Kenshin Uesugi. Mini Boss: Kasuga Threat Level: Medium High Don't let her beauty fool you. She is a deadly ninja who can play tricks on you if you are not careful. She will call upon ninjas as backup but it should not be much of a threat. Just focus on her timing of attacks and watch out for her basara attack. She will unleash quick attacks on you within a blink of an eye. There are two red boxes (three riceballs and two water bottles) to help you in case you need any supplies (Note: the same goes for Keiji Maeda's 2nd battle). After the defeat of the warriors its time to challenge the God of War, Kenshin Uesugi! BOSS: Kenshin Uesugi Threat Level: Medium-high Don't underestimate the God of War. He can put up a good fight if you're not careful. He can use his flash attacks and his ice elemental attacks that will freeze you frozen solid for a few seconds. When he stands for a while in a charged position, use the time to make your "Relentless Assault" on him but keep your distance when he unleashes his attack. Watch out for his basara move as you can take damage from his sword techniques or leave you in a tight spot. Repeat the attacks to obtain victory. Allies you can obtain: Kasuga: Play through Tsuruhime's story on the blue path. Keiji Maeda: Play as Magoichi Saica on the red path. #7 Flooding Ueda Castle Ready to take on Shingen's forces? You betcha. Firstly, start running and take down the enemy forces and then make a turn to the left. You should see a man with a pack full of Zennys to take down. Make your move onwards and you'll see a cutscene. In order to gain access to the other areas, you will need to flood the camps by draining the moat. Use your map to guide your way to finding your way of occupying all the camps as well as defeating the enemy forces. However, for one camp at the north end of the map, watch the cutscene and prepare for a mini-boss. Mini Boss Strategy #1: Sasuke (with 2 clones for support) Threat level: Very High (on hard) Three against one (two with two players)... Not good odds... What you want to do is to focus on the real Sasuke (he should have a Lock on his head) The rest of the two clones will contain items that can help you such as Riceballs and waterbottles. They are fast and quick so you should be ready to block and parry their attacks when necessary. If you're running low on health or you need to finish them off, use the item boxes around. Be careful of his Basara move as it can do a lot of damage based on the combos. Well, he's a ninja overall... Once you have occupied most of the camps, feel free to step into the battle arena and verse Yukimura Sanada full on or go for the Special Objective #2 which involves sneaking in and making a surprise ambush! Special Objective #1: Wash away Sasuke's Clones by draining the moat. When you initiate battle, make your move by heading to the camp on the left. Destroy the camp leader guarding the moat and you will wash away the clones and make the camp neutral. Simple. Thus, making your life easier to defeat him and obtain the treasure easily. Mini Boss Strategy #2: Sasuke (solo) Much better without the clones making your life miserable in battle. Just follow the strategy with the mini boss strategy #1 and you shall be fine. Special Objective #1: Make a sneak attack on Yukimura. Instead of heading straight onwards to the battle, versing him, make a sneak attack! Not only you get a reward, you get a funny cutscene to enjoy! Firstly, backtrack to the area where you cannot access the secret paths due to the water levels. Now since the moats are drained, you can now access them and as well go back to other places that have water but none now for treasures and Zenny hunting! Climb the stairs and you should see a camp. Defeat the camp leader and it will open the bridge allowing you to do a sneak attack on him! Watch the cutscene. BOSS: Yukimura Sanada Threat Level: Medium-Medium High It's showtime! Firstly, pre-emptive strikes are the key to winning. Yukimura will use his charged moves on you. When you knock him in the air, he will counter with a aerial strike to damage you. Be careful of his strong Basara attack as it can deal critical blows and finishers. There are health and basara items for recovery in case for a quick finish or you are struggling with the battle. The best option is to use the Hero time when you're in a crisis situation. Repeat these steps to gain victory. #8 Assault on Ueda Castle Difficulty level: **** Enemies: Soldiers Victory Conditions: Defeat Masamune Date 2 Players Required: No This time, you start in a different area of the map. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.4 Gallery The Gallery will allow you to view profiles of characters in the game (main and supporting), listen to their voices, listen to the soundtrack, view game- play history for your characters and check your main achievements overall. You can view videos of your characters cutscenes from openings to endings. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Basara Mart Guide and Tips and Tricks The Basara Mart allows the player to spend their acquired Zennys and materials to create accessories that can help power up their weapons from attack, defence and critical hits to their main health and specialties. CAUTION: Be sure to choose carefully what accessories you want to create as you won't be able to dismantle the accessory and retrieve the materials used! The only way you can undo the last action is by reloading your current save. You can also test the accessory first in a battle as long as you have auto- save off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Characrers WARNING: The description may contain some spoilers for some characters. Pro- ceed with caution if you want to find out more... 5.1 Mitsunari Ishida Weapon: Sword Description: Supreme Commander of the Western Army. He was previously a vassal of HideyoshiToyotomi, whom he viewed as a role-model and served with absolute loyalty. He is fueled by rage and obsessed with his desire to take revenge on Ieyasu Tokugawa for killing Hideyoshi, caring very little for other concerns, personal or political. Abilities: Advantages: Disadvantages: Basara takes more time to fill. Basara Art/Ultimate Basara Art: 5.2 Yoshitsugu Otani Weapon: Lightning sword Description: Special Arts: Abilities: Advantages: Disadvantages: Basara Art/Ultimate Basara Art: 5.3 Magoichi Saica Weapon: Pistols and Artilery Description: Third leader of the Saica Faction, a mercenary force. Doesn't carefor money, and only has the Saica Faction take on jobs that will improve their status and standing in Japan. Each member of her faction is united by a deep bond. While most historical representations show Magoichi as a man, the name 'Magoichi' was used for the leader of the Saica and could have referred to a woman as well. She uses a variety of anachronistic firearms as her weapons, including pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, and a rocket launcher. Her real name, as revealed in conversations with Motochika, is Sayaka. She holds a grudge against the Toyotomi clan for their previous service to Hideyoshi which, presumably, ended badly. Special arts: Spread Bazooka: Shoot missiles on enemies within range. Abilities: Pistol: Do a charge attack and fire your pistols rapidly on enemies. (can be comboed into normal arts) Shotgun: Do a burst attack on enemies and damage and break the enemies' armour easily. Disadvantages: Requires charge time and ranged weapons aren't so good with close combat weapons. Basara Art/Ultimate Basara Art: Magoichi Saica grabs all of her artilery from machine guns, shotguns and pistols and shoots disasterously on all foes in range and then grabs a bazooka and shoots missiles into the air damaging all foes within the area. 5.4 Kanbe Kuroda Weapon: Ball and Chain Description: Former member of Hideyoshi's Forces. Was driven away south by Mitsunari Ishida after his plans to take over Japan by himself were discovered . He is attempting to use the turmoil spreading across Japan to take over, but is constantly outwitted by Motonari and Yoshitsugu. He appears as a prisoner whose hands have been locked and cuffed with a ball and chain, which he also uses as his weapon. His alternate story paths focus on hunting down an eagle which had stolen the key needed to free his bound arms. Abilities: Advantages: Very strong and powerful. Disadvantages: Slow, running speed is low and holding the normal arts for too long may involve a dizzy status. 5.5 Tsuruhime (To unlock, see tips, tricks and unlockables!) Weapon: Bow and Arrow Description: Tsuruhime is a young and naive Oracle and a priestess who wishes to protect her homeland. Because of her secluded life, she has very little knowledge of the outside world and of various things and concepts outside of her shrine, such as mistaking a tiger for a bear, and not knowing what "sadness" means. She became infatuated with the ninja Kotaro Fuma when he saved her life during a naval battle. She uses a bow as her weapon. Abilities: Advantages: Fast, good off range attacks for enemies and bosses Disadvantages: Some attacks require charge time and recovery time after use. 5.6 Ieyasu Tokugawa Weapon: None. Only his fists. Description: Ieyasu is now an adult and Supreme Commander of the Eastern Army. Was taken in as an apprentice by Hideyoshi Toyotomi after being defeated at Komaki and Nagakute. Rebelled against and killed Hideyoshi because he did not agree with his plan to take Japan by force. He now fights to unify Japan through peace and bonds along with his comrade Tadakatsu. He eschewed his previous weapon, a spear, and now fights with his fists, using knuckle attachments to complement his new fighting style. Basara Art/Ultimate Basara Art: 5.7 Masamune Date Weapon: Six Swords Description: Charismatic young leader of Oshu. He seeks to unify Japan under his rule with help from his right-hand man, Kojuro Katakura. Was once thoroughly defeated in battle by Mitsunari, which lead to the weakening of Oshu's power. He resolved to fight against Ishida Mitsunari in order to win his lost honor back. Special Arts: Dragon Eye: Charge a stream of energy and shoot a powerful fireball on enemies (charged attack allow more combos and damage) Six Claws: Increase attacks for normal and special art attacks. Each player can choose a character, personalise their own equipment and accessories as well as work together in tough battles. However, there are a few rules that are different to single player mode. 6.1 2 Players in Heroes story Only player 1 has priority to choose the character's path as player 2 can support and help player 1 in tight combat. They can work together, fight together as well as earn Zennys, treasures, and recover for every 100 KOs. Note: 2 Players can be a lifesaver for the "The Last Stand" mission where both players can cover more ground as well as increase their main defence overall. 6.2 2 Players in Quick Battles You can choose any of the 38 battle places in Sengoku Basara as well as ANY character (you can use the same character in this exclusively yet strangely) as you claw through the enemy's army for victory!!! 6.3 Rules in 2 players There are a few rules in 2 players that can happen: 1. You can't use your ally you have chosen for your story mode/quick battles! (sorry!) 2. Hero time are used separately for both players. 3. Experience is shared (x0.5) but benefit quicker to level characters in the beginning. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Tips, tricks and unlockables Combat tips 1. Be sure to prioritise strafing and blocking of your enemy attacks. This is VERY crucial to start practicing to block and parry your enemy attacks for some battles as well as the normal and hard difficulty battles. 2. Only break the red boxes for when you are in need of help! There are a limited supply of items that can help you in battle such as small riceballs to recover small amounts of health, large riceballs for large amounts, a small water bottle of water for small recovery of Basara and large water bottle of water for large recovery of Basara. It is pointless to obtain these items when your health or Basara gauge is at its maximum so you should benefit the items when in desperate call (e.g. boss battles, mission objectives, mini bosses, etc.) To ensure you don't pick it up by accident when your gauges are full, do a ranged attack or use the gauge when full on enemies. 3. When you are at critical, your Basara gauge will fill automatically but you put yourself at a risk of victory or defeat based on the accessories you have to enhance your attack and defence at critical health. You should hear a heartbeat thumping in the background as well as the Basara gauge filling up gradually. Be sure to use the gauge, retreat and recover and return back to battle to avoid a defeat. Being at critical can have its advantages and dis- advantages. 4. Use the right accessory for the right job and the right weapon for the right situation. It is best to equip accessories in your weapon if you have any blank spaces. You can also equip and remove accessories to benefit your stats! 5. Finally, Have Fun! Just have fun and enjoy playing the many characters in Sengoku Basara! If you're struggling with a particular level/boss, it is best to level up your character more by rethinking your accessories you have equipped, the difficulty level as well as the practice of using your moves. If you're really struggling, (around 5 constant fails of a mission or deaths) take a break, get some fresh air and come back fresh and rethink your plan. You can two players to help ease the situation overall! Or you can level up your character and unlock their abilities along the way. Combo tips and tricks 1. When comboing, there is a hidden timer when enemies are damaged by your attacks and abilities. The combo meter will reset to 0 when you take damage or when you do not defeat an enemy after 1-2 seconds when you have a (ready, nice , awesome, radical or basara) judgement. The best way to keep the combo meter running, is to either hit another enemy at least once more randomly, activate your basara or hero gauge or use the Ultimate Basara ability for your chosen character. 2. When you are at a 500 hit combo, you will stagger to a frenzy and you will earn 5x the amount of Zennys for every soldier or enemy defeated. The effect will last for 2-4 seconds and then it will drop to Basara. The best recommen- dation of obtaining 500 hit combo is to destroy the enemy camp using a Basara/ Ultimate Basara attack so you can rack in the combos! Then when it goes back to Basara, go for another 500 hits to stagger again! 3. For Super Frenzy, it has the same effects as Frenzy except you earn 10x the amount overall! You can obtain a Super Frenzy for every 1000 hits to keep the combo meter running. 4. Hit enemies randomly with normal arts! Every hit counts as long as you keep the combo meter running! Be sure to avoid taking damage from enemies otherwise the meter goes back to 0. EXP Farming There are ways you can obtain easy EXP farming for battles. From using unique accessories to playing on harder levels. This would require you to level up your character before you attempt to do the mission. 1. Difficulty can have an impact on the missions. If you do a easy/hard level, based on an easy difficulty, you receive no bonus. However, if you play on normal, you will receive halve of the normal EXP you receive added on to the regular EXP earned. (I.e. EXP x 1.5 = 1.5 EXP). This also applies for hard except you earn double the experience overall so it covers the more pain you take in harder missions, the better the EXP payment! 2. When you have the required materials to make the "Sunglasses" accessory. It will add 0.5 EXP to the normal EXP (Yellow mark at the end of every battle) so you can do Easy as much as you can or Normal overall. However, it comes at a cost of your display of your health gauge. You must PREDICT your own health and damages you receive as well as your own status as the game makes it cruel for you to judge your own well-being of your current character. 3. Do optional missions/tasks! These are worth a fortune of EXP just by doing several optional tasks. E.g. Destroying all enemy camps, sneak attacks, enter the castle within a time limit, etc. When a certain criteria has been met, you will see a message "Special Reward" displayed. So be sure to cover EVERY single drop in this game to maximise completion and EXP! Also, if you have the red bowl accessory equipped, you can double the bonuses! E.g. defeating a mini boss like Tadakatsu or Ginchiyou Tachibana may wield 2000-5000 EXP but can wield 4000-10000 EXP with the red bowl accessory equipped! Unlockables Character's Alternate Outfit Complete the character's heroes story mode at least once. In this section, I will give you top tips and tricks and hints on how to meet the requirements for these objectives. Note: They are completely optional but for hardcore gamers, this is important for 100% completion! Achievement #1: Army Annihilator Rank difficulty of recognition: Normal Objective: Complete Heroes' Story while defeating over 5,000 enemies. To unlock Hanzo, first unlock Kotaro Fuma as a playable character. First, go through Kotaro's story mode twice as on the second run, you'll unlock a new blue path at the beginning. Take the blue path and fight the following people: 1: Tsuruhime 2: Chosokabe 3: Mitsunari 4: Ieyasu Now level up Hanzo Hattori to its maximum as your ally so you will be able to track down fugitives. Achievement #11: Comeback Kid Rank difficulty of recognition: Varies depending on the character's level and health. It will be hard to tell without how much health you have by the number so you will have to estimate. Objective: Finish a battle with an Ultimate BASARA Art while your health is low (5,000 health points or less). Tip: Always save your Ultimate BASARA Art when you are in a tight situation!! Usually your health is at low when its at red and you hear a heartbeat in the background. The Ultimate BASARA Art is a gamble that can turn the tide of the boss battle. Be sure to prioritise blocking and strafing of enemy attacks at all costs as well as using different methods of abilities for different situations and the Basara/ Ultimate Basara Arts move as your last resort. You should be fine as long as you have practiced and levelled up your character with equal health, attack and defence. I will create unique "Accessory Paradigms" to help you with how to power up your abilities and stats. (See Extra: Accessory Paradigms.) Achievement #18: Frenzied Fighter Rank difficulty of recognition: Easy Objective: Complete Heroes' Story while performing a combo of 500 hits or higher.
