However, he aspires to become a knight. After a certain incident during his childhood, Asbel gave up the path his father laid out for him and took enlisted in the knight academy. He feels strongly about taking responsibility for his actions and will do anything to protect those he cares about. Asbel's fighting styles consists of sheathed and sword artes. As the main character, Asbel's fit to adapt to most situations with his array of artes, able to handle single and multiple opponents by switching between his sheathed and drawn sword styles. Switching from sheathed to drawn sword style takes very little time, but doing the opposite will have a delay. However, with the proper skills learned, Asbel can switch between his styles freely using certain artes. Overall, Asbel is a balanced fighter fit for both beginning and advanced players. Sophie Age: Unknown Weapon: Gauntlets Sophie is a mysterious girl that Asbel encounters during his adventures in the wilderness. When Asbel first found her, she was devoid of memories. Asbel christened her "Sophie" from the Crosophie Flower that she was fond of. Sophie is a fighter, mainly using her fists in melee combat. She is quick and agile on the battle field, able to quickly assault the enemies without much delay. Her burst style move set has several melee artes, allowing her to swap styles immediately if necessary. She also has several healing artes, but is only focused on healing one person at a time. Sophie is capable of handling single opponents easily, but has a harder time against large groups of enemies due to a lack of area effecting attacks. Hubert Ozwell Age: 17 Weapon: Dual Blades Hubert is Asbel's younger brother. When he was younger, Hubert was bullied by his older brother, often times getting in trouble. Seeing Asbel as a bad influence on his younger brother, Aston separated the two siblings, with Hubert sent to the Ozwell household in Strata. Hubert was raised to have a seriously demeanor, often times being blunt, as a soldier should be. However, he has a hidden, gentle side, and is compassionate to others. Gifted, he became the youngest major in the Strata army. In battle, Hubert uses twin joined blades. Having a powerful attack, Hubert can handle against many types of opponents on his own. His secondary style allows him to fight at a ranged distance, using hidden guns in his blades to fire upon opponents. His ranged style also consists of spells, able to combo straight from his primary style to ranged style at a whim. He also has healing spells to support the party. Despite having a high attack stat, Hubert's defensive stats are abysmal, making him a frail tank. Hubert should not be taken as a second Asbel because of his poor defense stats. Cheria Barnes Age: 18 Weapon: Knives Cheria is Asbel's childhood friend and the granddaughter of the Lhant household's butler Frederick. She hopes that she could become useful to the Lhant family as best as she can. Cheria's parents passed away when she was young; as a result, she was raised by her grandfather. As a child, Cheria was inflicted with a congenital disease which caused her to become exhausted if she overexerted herself. Cheria is gentle and caring to others; often times she would be seen as the mother figure of the party. She has a crush on Asbel but cannot convey her feelings to him. Cheria's artes style consists of throwing daggers, allowing her to pressure the enemy from a safe distance. Her burst style consists primarily of holy offensive spells and area-based healing magic, with three supporting spells to augment the party's accuracy, evasion, and resistance against enemies. Cheria is a rather fragile character, with low physical defense and a slow running speed. However, her base stats are on par with Asbel's and boasts the highest arte defense out of the entire party, meaning her stats are weakened mainly due to weapon balancing. While her some of her arte execution is slow, Cheria's fighting style allows her to be mobile after attacking while pressuring from afar. By guarding and concentrating, Cheria can perform critical hits easier than the other members by striking from a distance. Her attacks also strike in an arc, allowing her to damage multiple opponents at once. While her healing spells take longer than Sophie's to chant, it is able to heal multiple people at once. Cheria also can lower her chanting time through mastering titles, performing attack chains, and using cast reduction titles. Cheria should not be used by beginning players due to her difficult learning curve. However, once mastered, Cheria becomes a major threat on the battle field. Malik Ceasars Age: 40 Weapon: Boomerang Edge Malik is the instructor of the Knight school and is Asbel's teacher. He is a disciplined man, being frank and formal at all times. Malik is often times the mentor of the party with others looking to his opinions. An excellent instructor, Malik is Asbel's "ideal self," and Asbel looks up to him as a role model to his dismay. In battle, Malik uses his boomerang edge as a primary weapon, able to strike from a distance. However, unlike Cheria, he remains immobile while using it, leaving him vulnerable to attack. Despite this drawback, Malik can damage multiple enemies at once with his arc attacks. His burst arte style consists of multiple spells. His spells are quite powerful, able to provide ranged support to your melee characters. Malik may look sturdy, but looks are deceiving; Malik's defensive stat is quite low despite having a large HP repertoire. If Malik is used by the player, keep your distance from the enemy. Use his primary style artes to chain to his spells to lower the casting time for them, allowing for quicker support. Pascal Age: 22 Weapon: Rifle Staff Pascal is part of the Anmaruchuia, a strange race of people who lives in the snow top mountains of Fendel. She is a genius technician and scientist. Being a cheerful soul, Pascal often speaks her mind regardless of the situation at hand. She is often a mood maker, changing the dim atmosphere of the party when things look grim. When she first meets Sophie, she grew obsessed with touching her. However, she seems to know something about Sophie, mentioning that she "finally gets to meet one" during their first encounter. Pascal uses a rifle staff as her weapon of choice. While her attacks are powerful, they have very few hits. Her primary style's first attack is slow and requires her to be up close to actually hit an enemy. However, as the player gains more attacks, she can temporary give this attack a flame charge that allows for ranged attack. Pascal's primary arte style allows her to be semi-mobile; allowing you to shift positions after certain attacks, but keeps her immobile for a delayed amount of time with others. Her burst style artes consists of spells, but they can only strike the area around Pascal rather than anywhere on the field. While again powerful, they require timing to use. After acquiring some skills, Pascal can prevent staggering while casting, but she will still take full damage from all attacks. Richard Age: 19 Weapon: Rapier Richard is Asbel's childhood friend, and is the Prince of Windol. He's mostly calm and collected, able to cope with the situation at hand in a cool manner. He also is peace loving, willing to protect his countrymen at any cost. He trusts Asbel and Sophie, able to share his personal issues with them. However, because of his position as prince, he's a target of assassination attempts. Richard uses a rapier in battle, focusing on swiftness rather than brute force. While his artes are powerful, he is extremely fragile in battle. His low defenses often leaves him stunned when hit by the enemy. His secondary style consists of spells, which allows him to strike at a distance. Richard should be used with caution due to his low defenses; keep him constantly moving to avoid enemy impact. ------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------- Battle Basics [BATL] Tales of Graces uses a variation of the Linear Motion Battle system (LMBS) known as Shift Style LMBS. This system allows battle in real time on a linear plane. In this game, the battles happen in a separate 3D plane outside of the field. When you touch a monster avatar, you enter this separate plane and you can't leave until you win the battle or run away. You may only walk in a straight line. However, with the skill Free Run, you are allowed to run freely on the battlefield at the cost of 1 Chain Capacity point per step. Chain Capacity, or CC, is the replacement of Technical Points (TP), from previous Tales games. Each character has fixed CC, depending on the weapon and stats they currently have. There is a minimum CC and a maximum CC amount. Minimum CC is the lowest amount you can have during a battle; maximum CC is the maximum amount you can have in battle. Each attack costs a certain amount of CC. Each attack you use will reduce your CC. You may continue chaining attacks until you don't have any left. CC can be increased in battle through attacking and filling up the bar underneath your character's HP bar. Once that bar is filled, your current CC will increase by 1 point, until you reach your maximum CC limit. However, receiving critical hits from enemies will reduce your CC by one, until you have your minimum CC amount. The Shift Style LMBS system consists of two styles, primary style known as "A style" and "Burst style." A style is a fixed attack list; every attack is assigned a certain amount of CC usage and button command. Attacks go in order from CC1, CC2, CC3, and CC4. You will consume CC as you go down the list. However, if you do not have enough CC to perform the next tier attack, you will perform the attack tier that fits the requirement at the time. B artes are not fixed and can be assigned to the B button of your Wiimote or controller. Up to 4 B artes can be assigned. B artes can be used at any time as long as you have enough CC to execute the assigned arte. B artes can also be chained in the middle of any A arte. If you chain a B arte in the middle of a A arte chain, you may continue your A arte chain to the next available tier if CC permits it. If the chained B arte is a spell, the spell will have its casting time reduced depending on how high your current linked tier is. Example: CC1 -> CC2 -> CC3 -> CC4 -> Spell If you link a B arte spell for your casters like this, you will drastically reduce your casting time. CC1 -> CC2 -> CC3 -> Arte/Spell -> CC4 You may insert B artes/spells anytime in a chain like shown in the above. If it is a spell, then the time is reduced. If it is an offensive B arte, then it will connect right back to the A arte chain if you continue. You may insert as many B artes as possible in between and connect back to an A arte if you have the CC to do so. In addition to shifting styles, you may sidestep in the battlefield. By guarding and tapping left or right, you may sidestep and reposition your character. If you sidestep at the last second, you will take 1 damage in addition to recover CC. You may also back step and forward step by guarding or tapping up and down on the analogue stick. As you progress, you gain the Arles Gauge, a bar on the left side of your screen. The top part of the bar is increased as you attack, kill, guard, and sidestep enemy attacks. Once the bar fills, you automatically enter Arles Rise. Once you enter Arles Rise, you enter a state in which you have unlimited CC for all your characters. During this time, no critical hits will be dealt and any damage you take while guarding will be in full. However, you may not flinch from any attacks and you can activate your Blast Calibers once it becomes available. Blast Calibers are special attacks that you can execute once you have it. They are often known in the other games as "Mystic Artes." Each character has a total of 3 Blast Calibers each (Sophie has 4). Depending on the level of the Blast Caliber gauge (which appears during Arles Rise when you have a Blast Caliber available), you will execute the level indicated by the number on the gauge. In order to trigger a Blast Caliber, you must connect an attack (whether arte or spell) onto an enemy while holding A and B (or just the L button on the controller). The bottom half of the Arles Gauge indicates the enemy's tension. The bar fills gradually if the enemy is taking hits or is guarding. If that bar fills, then the enemy enters a state similar to Arles Rise known as Arles Break. During this time, enemies cannot receive critical hits and will not flinch from your attacks. Certain bosses also have their own Blast Calibers that they can trigger. However, bosses can only trigger their Blast Calibers if they connect one of their attacks onto your character. Arles Rise time can be increased by entering into it consecutively without letting the enemy going into Arles Break. The default time for Arles Rise is 7 seconds. Time is increased to 9, 13, 16, and 19 seconds. Time is carried over to the next battle if the enemy does not enter Arles Break or if you don't step into a save point. Once you hit 19 seconds, it will stay at 19 seconds until the enemy goes into Arles Break or you step onto a save point. If the enemy goes into Arles Break, they will have an Arles Break state with the Arles Rise time you had. If you have 13 seconds of Arles Rise time and the enemy enters Arles Break, then they will receive 13 seconds of Arles Break time. After the enemy enters Arles Break, your next Arles Rise timer will be reset to default. ------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------- Menu Translation [MENU] ================================================================ Title Screen: New Game Load Game Extras -Ex New Game (Only available after receiving clear data) -Library (only available with clear data) DLC -DLC Code Input -Extra Mission -Costume Store ================================================================ Menu: The following is the menu in order according to the screen: |Artes | Items | Equipment | Status |Options| |Titles|Arles Pot|Information|Strategy| Data | Character 1 |Playtime Character 2 | 0:00:00 Character 3 | 0:00 Character 4 |Gald Character 5 |Encounters Character 6 |Highest Combo A: Confirm/B or +: Cancel/Exit Menu In the character slots: A: Confirm, B: Cancel, 1: Set Avatar, 2: Switch character places ================================================================ Titles: These are the options on the title menu. Similar to the other games, it requires you to fuse to items together to form a new item. However, this game also allows you to upgrade your weapons using this system as well. You may dualize food and new material from existing materials. This is a way to make new foods to put in the Arles Pot for a variety of effects. Materials can be used to make new weapons or armor. Some are required to complete side quests. Equipment dualizing involves two pieces of equipment and/or materials. While it might not need as many pieces as either of the above games, getting the materials sometimes might be even more tedious than the above. Dualize can be used to power up your weapons, whether with special effects, elements, or simply just a marginal power boost, or make foods and materials that you can farm/use in your Arles pot. All unknown items are preset, and you get to see the created item before you make it. Weapon/Armor dualizing comes in four different flavors: Synthesis to a new weapon, power up, ability implant, and ability extraction. ---------------------------------- -Synthesis to a new weapon: nothing new here, as it is in many other games before this one. Use hard to find materials and stick them to certain weapons to create a new weapon. -Power Up: As mentioned before, you can power up your weapons with fragments. The power up is permanent, so when you extract abilities from the weapon, the power up stays. How much a fragment will power up your weapon will be dependent on what nature the fragment is; simply shift the description to see how much a piece will up your weapon/armor. -Ability implantation: All fragments give certain abilities to your weapons/armor. The effect will be determined by what the fragment color is. ================================================================ =Light Blue fragments will be Attack, Defense, Arte Attack, Arte Defense, Accuracy, Evasion, and movement abilities, in that order. =Yellow Green fragments will be HP recovery, ranging from Auto Regeneration to Critical Hit HP recovery. =Purple fragments represent elemental attributes that you can add to weapons. This is limited to freeze, poison, heavy, burn, bolt, and petrifaction. =Orange ones are probably the ones that people might like the most. These fragments boost the property of your CC. These fragments can increase minimum CC, maximum CC, and recovery of CC. Recovery of CC is almost the same as HP regeneration, whether you recovery CC from killing enemies, landing a critical hit, or recover more when you evade. These fragments also can speed up the recovery of CC up to a maximum of 52%. All fragments have a rank to them, signified by a number next to the piece. This rank determines how good the effect is, with 1 being the weakest power up and 9 being the highest. Ideally, you would want a rank 9 effect to your weapon. There's an easier way to rank up abilities once you do a side quest (it is mentioned in the guide along the main storyline), but only for jewelry with 2 abilities attached to them. However, it will cost you quite a bit of money to do so. ================================================================ -Ability Extraction: This is the trickiest part. While you might think "why the heck would I extract the ability from my weapon?!" There are two important reasons. One, collector's book and two, ability level up. When you extract abilities by combining two weapons together, you create a jewel based on the combined natures of the two weapons. This jewel will have the highest two ranking abilities on both weapons, as well as rank up any identical ranked abilities. This allows you to equip abilities that your other characters might not have on their weapons. It also allows you to exploit multiple weaknesses that your enemy might have. Also, some abilities MAY only be extracted from weapons to level up, mainly all the other elements that weren't listed in the fragment list above. ---------------------------------- This is also the only way to power up your weapons multiple times. When you implant a fragment onto a weapon, you see that there will be a "+ (number)" next to the name. That's how many times that you have dualized that weapon. This number only appears when you dualize with a fragment, not a material that alters the weapon. By implanting and extracting you power up your weapon. Keep in mind that if you extract any abilities from a weapon, the ability is extracted and lost permanently for that one individual weapon (only the one you used to dualize. Any other weapons that are the same that you DIDN'T dualize with will still have it). You will need to buy a new weapon of the same type/re-synthesize from the base weapon to get the ability back. Although, if you are clever, you can keep abilities on a weapon if you put a HIGHER ranking ability on to a weapon and extract it like that. That will allow you to keep the ability you want. ------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------- Title Importance [TITE] Titles are the main way to teach your characters new artes and the primary way on how your characters can gain stat ups. As you progress through the story, you will gain titles in a couple of ways: story events, side quests, level up, title mastery, arte usage, and special means. Story events and side quest titles are given in this guide along with the title numbers. However, it is still the responsibility of the player to keep track of these titles. However, story titles are non-miss able, so you should be able to get them as you go along with the story. Childhood title gains are not listed since they do not affect anything in the adult storyline. Level Up titles, like story event titles, are non-miss able. You get these titles when your character levels up to a certain level. Every character gains their 50 hit and 75 hit Blast Caliber activation title at levels 100 and 200 respectively. Title mastery titles will only appear after you master a certain amount of titles. Full mastery is required for these titles, meaning that there must be a "Master!" sign in place of the stars. Often times, you only need 3-5 full mastered titles for these titles. This is the means of obtaining everyone's 25 hit Blast Caliber activation title, with the exception of Asbel and Sophie. Arte Usage titles are on the bottom, represented by "A" or "B" depending on the arte. These are obtained according to the arte usage of that arte. Often times, it's to use the corresponding arte 100 and 1000 times each. These are to enhance the effectiveness of those artes. Spells differ in usage to get these titles however, and often times need less usage to acquire them. Titles obtained through special means are character specific. This includes, but not limited to, controlling the character for a number of battles, cooking a recipe the character likes from the arles pot a couple of times, monster/collector's book completion, seeing all skits, using the Arles Pot and consuming its energy, and preventing certain status effects. In addition to the skills you learn from titles, each title has its own passive skill effect. This effect is only active when you equip that title. This effect is indicated on the top right corner of the title's description box on the bottom of the screen. These skills may increase in effectiveness when you fully master the title. Some of these skills include, but not limited to, stat increases, piggyback damage, speed cast, decreased stun time, counter attack, extra damage against certain enemy attributes, and rhythm spell chant. Because titles can be changed mid-way in a battle through the equipment menu, it is a vital part of strategy. Change titles mid-way in battle strategically to meet your needs. ------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------- Walkthrough [WTHR] ================================================================ Childhood Prologue [PROL] Lhant Mountain -You can use the spring to fully restore your health. -Head north to the flower bed to see the story event. -Items to obtain: Apple Gel x3, Glass Sphere (ガラスフィア), Life Bottle. These are boss battles that are very tough. The recommended levels are to be at 80 and higher. Defeating each of these dragons will get you weapons and the Wind Jewel, Water Jewel, and Fire Jewel. -The Zonecage EX Dungeon has 10 floors. Each of these floors requires an item to tribute in order to proceed. The higher the floor, the higher value the item must be. Item value is determined by the price they are sold. The 10th floor requires you to have all three Jewels from the three guardian dragons in order to proceed. The tribute requirement prices are: Floor 1: 1 Floor 2: 400 Floor 3: 800 Floor 4: 1600 Floor 5: 3200 Floor 6: 6400 Floor 7: 12800 Floor 8: 25600 Floor 9: 51200 Floor 10: 102400 -The Zonecage EX Dungeon is also where you get the "sphere" materials to dualize everyone's strongest weapon. They are on the following floors: First Floor is Cheria's, second floor is Hubert's, fifth floor is Asbel's, seventh floor is Malik's, eighth floor is Pascal's, ninth floor is Sophie's. Keep in mind that they are only from chests (chests from lowering blue pillars count as well), and the drop rate is pretty low. You might need to redo the floor multiple times to get them. These spheres are very distinctive; they are orbs with a roman numeral in them. Dualize these weapons with the character's weakest weapon to get their strongest weapons (Sophie's is from the Iron Wristlet from Lhant, not the default gauntlets she uses in cut scenes; everyone else is from their default weapons). -If you defeated Solomos of the 10th floor of the Zonecage. The final boss will power up. You will no longer fight the Angelus form and instead it will be the Teos form for the rest of this game file. The boss's original weaknesses will also be replaced by 6 new weaknesses. The recommended levels are 175-200. ------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------- Side-quests [SIDE] -At the Port Zavet, choose -????- Destination and you will fight a battle. He'll move and you can find the child. Basement, north-center tower, left side, there is a box with a bag of yellow fruit on it. Behind it is a child. On the bath to the basement, north most tower, left side, there is a soldier who will only say "..."Talk to him 8 times and he'll move aside to find another child. Basement, north most tower, behind the large rum barrel. Roof of the southern central tower, there will be a soldier complaining about food. Give him the croquet you bought. Go to the second floor and go to the back center building, there will be a data facility. Go to the star for the event and receive a Memory Core. You will need to collect 2 of every following item on the right side of the equal sign: きれいな羽根 + 千切られたページ = 羽ばたける結晶 無名の実 + 千切られたページ = 生い茂る結晶 危ない液体 + レアメタル = 形無き結晶 粘土 + デンジャラス液体 = 固結する結晶 歯車 + レアメタル = 造られし結晶 免罪の水 + コモンメタル = 潤いし結晶 The equation is for you combine existing items to form the items you need through dualize. Then go to the Cornell Research Facility to where you had the event with Sophie. Exit right and head up the hallway. Turn right at the end and enter the only room in the screen. Examine the star to get an event with Pascal saying she can rebuild the humanoid. Talk to the star again if you have the above materials to give them away. If you have all the materials to rebuild the humanoid, Pascal will receive the title Mad Anmaruchia (14). -Go to Grelside and talk to Duke Dale (the old guy who was with Richard) at the duke's manor at the north end of the city. Go to the West Strata Desert and find a star east of the Strata Desert Ruins to get Locket Momento. Use this to complete an inn request in Yeu Liberte for Sophie's Lady Sophie title (13). -To fight the triple cameos, you must have completed the three cameo requests at the Riot Peak inn. You must have the Requiem, the Lost Anklet from collecting all 40 magic cards, and the Hero's Cane from the Buried Sand Remains to complete the three requests.
