Storywise, it is a prequel to the animated movie Sky Crawlers. [SC1A] Controls ******************************************************************************* You can use three different controllers for Sky Crawlers: *Wii-mote + Nunchuk *Gamecube controller *Classic controller In the game, go to Options -> Controls and you will be able to set your control type, key type, throttle, camera control, and manual maneuvers. There are 3 different control types: *Beginner: Limited dive and ascent *Normal: Plane automatically levels out (Default Control Type) *Expert: Turns can flip the plane over I use the expert control type: it enables the maximum maneuverability possible; however, it definitely involves a learning curve that some may find frustrating (on top of the fact that, if you use the Wii-mote + Nunchuk, you are having to control two separate objects that both involve movement to control the aircraft). It basically took a full playthrough to be comfortable. There are a couple of tips you should consider: First, the nunchuck only needs to be tilted if you are using the motion aspect - the only thing large motions do is put your hands out of position and your attempts to readjust could wind up causing you to crash; Second, and this is related to the first, if you do find yourself 'out-of-position' use either the Pause/Map/TMC/MM buttons to reset yourself. I personally used the TMC to do this but they should all work although the TMC and MM (Manual Maneuvers) do so within the game so you have a limited time. There are 5 Key Types (button layouts) for the Wii-mote + Nuncuk. Note that 'Aim'changes your enemy target, 'Weapons' toggles between your primary and secondary weapon, 'MM' means Manual Maneuver, 'Autopilot' levels your plane, 'Yaw' adjusts your plane left and right, and 'TMC' stands for Tactical Maneuver Command. Key Type A (Default Key Type): Wii-mote Nunchuk -------------------------------------------------------- D-Pad Up: Aim Control Stick: Select MM D-Pad Left/Right: Yaw C: Weapons A: Execute MM/TMC Z: Fire B: Flap (Brake) -: Map +: Camera (use Nunchuk control stick to adjust camera) 1: Pause 2: Autopilot Key Type B: Camera and Weapons are swapped (not bad if you use your camera more than you switch weapons). The difference, in my opinion, is whichever one you use more should be on 'C' while the lesser used one should be on '+'. Although it is easier (more comfortable) to hold 'C' than it is to hold '+'so that may be another advantage. Key Type C: Increases camera versatility for advanced users (+: Weapons, C: MM, Control Stick: Camera). This allows you to easily adjust your camera view at the expense of having to hold 'C' to execute your manual maneuver. Key Type D: Motion Sensor Disabled - No Camera. This is the scheme for if you do not want motion controls but do not have a gamecube or classic controller. Key Type E: Nunchuk handles basic controls (Control Stick: Accelerate/Brake, C: Execute MM/TMC, Z: Fire). The game shows you layouts of each key type so I do not need to go into specifics. For me, I simply used the default key type A. This suits my style as I do not use the Pause, Autopilot, or Camera features very much. I hold the Wii-mote so the tip of my thumb is on the D-Pad (useful only really for the Expert control type as that controls the yaw) while the base of my thumb can easily hit the 'A' button. If I ever need to pause, I simply use the '-' button to bring up the map. Throttle: There are two different schemes to control the throttle. Normal has you pull back to accelerate while Reverse has you pull back to brake. The best scheme for you will probably depend upon your key type and whether or not you want to generally be at full speed or cruising speed. Camera Controls: There are four different schemes. Normal has the camera go up when you push up, left when you push left, etc. L/R Reverse reverses the controls when you push left or right. U/D Reverse reverses the controls when you push up or down. U/D L/R Reverse reverses all of the controls (you may know it as the Inverse scheme from other games). Manual Maneuvers: You can set your manual maneuvers. These are maneuvers that you can do yourself but these can be executed to precision with the press of a button. Executing faster and with more precision, having your manual maneuvers set and using them is important. [SC1B] Grade & Score ******************************************************************************* At the end of each mission, you will receive grades for how well you performed during the mission. You receive grades for Kills (how many enemies you killed), TMC Kills (how many enemies you killed by using the Tactical Maneuver Command), and your overall grade for the mission (which can be based on time/how well you protect an ally or points/how many enemies you killed). Your grade during a mission will also unlock different paint schemes for your aircraft. You will also receive points at the end of each mission. There are two types of points: Kill points (based on the enemies you destroy during the mission - see [SC3] Enemy Points List) and Bonus points (based on the grades you receive at the end of the mission). Points earned from each mission will unlock secondary weapons for your aircraft. Bonus Points ------------ S: 4000 A: 3000 B: 2000 C: 1000 For example, if you receive an S in Kills, TMC Kills, and Grade, you will receive 12000 bonus points for that mission (i.e. you receive bonus points for each of the 3 grades you receive). [SC1C] Modes and Difficulty Levels ******************************************************************************* Story Mode : Play each mission in succession. Free Mission: Play any mission you have completed over again to achieve better grades and earn more points. You can play the missions on any difficulty regardless of the difficulty you chose for Story Mode (except Ace difficulty until you unlock it). Tutorial : Learn how to play with short tutorial levels. When you first start a new game's Story Mode, you will automatically play the first tutorial. Replay Clips: View replays of your mission. Music : Listen to 24 music tracks (unlocked upon beating Story Mode once). Movie Player: View the 9 cut-scenes from the game (unlocked upon beating Story Mode once). There are 4 Difficulty Levels: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Ace. Ace is locked at the beginning. The difficulty level mainly affects the enemy units' aggressiveness (how often they shoot at you within a given timeframe). Also, the higher the difficulty affects how smart/maneuverable the enemy planes will be in dogfighting (their skill is denoted by the number of asterix by their plane on your HUD). [SC1D] Setting up your planes ******************************************************************************* During the game you will have to choose which secondary weapons you want to equip for a mission or which parts to outfit your plane with. New secondary weapons are earned by scoring points during the mission while new parts are earned by destroying special "Named" targets during your missions. Secondary Weapons ----------------- There are two types of secondary weapons: Anti-Surface and Anti-Air. When you have an anti-surface secondary weapon ready-to-fire, you will not be able to lock-on to air targets (although you can still damage them if you hit them). You can lock onto any targets when you have anti-air secondary weapons ready- to-fire. You choose your secondary weapon before each mission so you will want to pay attention to the mission details to help you decide which one will help you the most. Anti-Surface: There are two types of anti-surface weapon: Unranged (Unguided Bomb - UGB & UGBL, Napalm Bomb, Powder Bomb, and Torpedo), and Ranged (Anti-Surface Gun and Rocket Launcher). Enhanced Payload is a part that increases the effectiveness of the unranged weapons while Enhanced Rockets is a part that increases the effectiveness of the Rocket Launcher. Unguided Bombs (Regular and Large) damage anything within a given radius. As such, it is my secondary weapon of anti-surface battles in general. The UGBL gives a much larger blast radius but you are limited much more in the number that you can carry. Napalm Bombs and Powder Bombs are similar in that they explode in a linear fashion from the point of impact. The payloads of napalm and powder bombs are less than unguided bombs. Cereblaze points out that the Powder Bomb only hits wha the little bomblets actually touch compared to the Napalm which is more concentrated. Torpedos are specialized for naval warfare. From the point of impact, the torpedo travels in a straight line. This works well against the broadsides of slow moving or immobile naval units but is less effective against the broadsides of fast moving naval units unless your impact point is close to the vessel. For faster moving naval units it is more effective to launch them from the front or rear (although this means you must be more accurate). The Anti-Surface Gun has an angled targeting reticule: this means that you can fly level and attack naval ships below you like with bombs except that you still have to be within the range of your normal gun. The only benefit this gun really provides is peace of mind to pilots who have trouble crashing when getting too close to the ground (but the bombs are even better at that). The Rocket Launcher has the same targeting reticule as your normal guns with a longer range and more power. Although I generally used the UGB, with a longer range and the Enhanced Rockets part, this could be okay if you like to get close to the action. Anti-Air: Rapid Gun, Long-Range Gun, Heavy Gun, Shotgun, Explosive Bullets The Rapid Gun and Long-Range Gun are the most like your normal machine gun. The only difference is that the Rapid Gun fires more bullets per second and the Long Range Gun allows you to fire from further away. The Rapid Gun is useful for destroying enemy planes faster (the more maneuverable enemy planes will not let you stick on their tail for long). The Long Range Gun is great for 1 versus 1 dogfights as it allows you to hit the enemy first (you may even use it as a hybrid anti-surface weapon that allows you some more room to pull up). The Rapid and Long-Range Guns have a high payload. The Heavy Gun is a more powerful machine gun. It does not fire as quickly but only requires 2 hits to take down most aircraft. The Shotgun fires 8 shots at once - it has less range than the other guns but destroys in 1 shot as long as you are accurate (it is the middle-ground between the heavy gun and the exploding bullets). The Exploding Bullets will destroy in 1 shot (even when not completely accurate). The Heavy Gun has a higher payload but is weaker than the Shotgun while the Shotgun has a higher payload but is weaker than the Exploding Bullets. The Exploding Bullets have a normal range along with the heavy gun. Parts ----- Throughout the game you may receive new parts at the end of a mission (if you destroy special "Named" enemies during that mission). Achieving and equipping these parts improve the performance of you aircraft in several areas: Engines, Wings, Armors, Weapons, and Cockpits. The analysis below is based on relative differences from a single plane. This is because each part has a fixed impact while each plane has different stats in each category (so you may not see the same relative impact across planes). In other words, you can compare the parts across one aspect (i.e. speed) but not across different aspects (i.e. comparing the relative bonus of speed versus mobility may change drastically from plane to plane). Engines ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enhanced Engine I : Speed + Enhanced Engine II : Speed ++ Enhanced Engine III: Speed +++ Light Engine : Speed +, Mobility +, Stability +, Defense - High-Powered Engine: Speed ++++, Mobility -, Stability -- Note that for engines, the Enhanced Engine III makes the previous two engines obsolete (as it does not provide any negatives). The light engine gives you what the Enhanced Engine I does plus some mobility and stability at the cost of defense. The high-powered engine gives you the most speed at the cost of mobility and stability. Wings ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Modified Flap I : Speed --, Stability ++, AG + Modified Flap II : Speed ---, Stability ++++, AA -, AG ++ Variable Propeller : Speed -, Mobility +, Stability +, AA + Light Aileron : Speed ++, Mobility +, Defense -, AA + Modified Wing : Mobility ++, Stability +++, Defense - The Modified Flaps give up speed for stability (which helps your air-ground rating). The Variable Propeller gives you added mobility, stability, and air-air rating at the cost of speed. The Light Aileron gives you increased speed, mobility and air-air rating at the cost of defense. The Modified Wing gives you greater mobility and stability at the cost of defense. My wing of choice is the Modified Wing. Armors ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enhanced Armor I : Defense + Enhanced Armor II : Defense ++, Speed -, Mobility -, Stability - Enhanced Armor III : Defense +++, Speed -, Mobility --, Stability --- Light Armor : Speed +, Mobility +, Stability +, Defense - Anti-Impact Armor : Speed -, Mobility -, Stability -, Defense + As you increase your armor with the Enhanced Armors, you give up speed, mobility and stability. The Light Armor gives you a boost in speed, mobility, and stability at the cost of defense. The Anti-Impact Armor gives you the same defense as Enhanced Armor I but with a loss of speed, mobility, and stability. It says it reduces major attacks (which I can only assume are the attacks from the Amoebic and B. Cannons); however, these are easily avoided so I generally would not recommend the Anti-Impact Armor. Weapons ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Modified Gun I : AA +, AG +, Gun Homing Modified Gun II : Speed ---, AA ++, AG ++++, Gun Homing Enhanced Payload : Speed --, Mobility -, Stability -, AG +++, Bomb Damage + Increased Payload : Speed --, Mobility --, Stability -, AA +, AG +, Payload + Cooling System : No Overheating Enhanced Rockets : Speed --, Mobility -, Stability -, AG +++, Rocket Damage+ The Modified Guns give you a better air-air and air-ground rating along with increased accuracy of your guns (Modified Gun II costs you some speed to increase the ratings). My weapon of choice for aerial battles is the Modified Gun II. Enhanced Payload gives you increased bomb damage (affects UGB, UGBL, NPB, PDB, and TPD) and a better air-ground rating at the cost of speed, mobility, and stability. This is my weapon of choice for anti-surface battles. Increased Payload gives you more secondary weapons and a better air-air and air-ground rating at the cost of speed, mobility and stability. In my opinion, the increase it gives is simply not worth it (unless you like to use the planes with small payloads to begin with). If you fire your guns continuously, they will overheat. The Cooling System prevents your guns from overheating. This is not very useful as you only need to lift your finger for a second before it overheats and it will be as good as new. Enhanced Rockets give your rocket launcher greater power and a better air-ground rating at the cost of speed, mobility and stability. If you use the Rocket Launcher, this would be useful. Cockpits ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Improved Response : Stability +, AA +, TMC Response Up Anti-Air Set : AA ++, AG -- Anti-Surface Set : AA -, AG +++ Altitude Warning : Keeps Aircraft Level at lower altitudes Quick Reload : AA +, AG +, Quick Reload (secondary weapons) Overhaul : Speed ++, Mobility +, Stability ++, Defense +, AA +, AG + Improved Response gives you better stability, air-air rating, and it increases the rate at which your TMC bar fills up. This is helpful when you are first starting out if you use the TMC as a crutch. The Anti-Air set gives a greater air-air rating at the cost of air-ground rating while the Anti-Surface Set gives a greater air-ground rating at the cost of air-air rating. During your first playthrough, I would recommend the Anti-Air Set for your aerial battles. Altitude Warning simply keeps your aircraft level at lower altitudes. Quick Reload gives you a better air-air rating and air-ground rating as well as reloads your secondary weapons faster. You may like to use this if you find the reload times are too slow in anti-surface battles. I would not recommend this for anti-air secondary weapons as it still takes too long against enemy planes that are constantly maneuvering. Overhaul increase everything and is my cockpit of choice; however, since it is found in Mission 17, you can only use it after your first playthrough. Manual Maneuvers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Manual Maneuvers simply assign common maeneuvers to the push of a button. You do not need to ever use these to play the game but they do make things easier. Left/Right Turn (which need to be unlocked) as well as Barrel Roll Left/Right are my favorite maneuvers. The Barrel Rolls are very useful in the higher difficulties when you need to fly straight but an enemy plane is behind you. Sample Plane Recommendations ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am going to list the planes I use and their loadouts. These include the best planes and parts so they are more of a guide to what I use to complete the S grades on the missions; however, I found the Suiga useable for the missions in the beginning until you get the Sanka M-II (for aerial battles). SUIGA: Light Engine, Modified Wing, Light Armor/Enhanced Armor III, Enhanced Payload, Overhaul Secondary Weapon: UGB Explanation: On higher difficulties may want to subsitute mobility of light armor for defense, especially mission 11) Missions: 4, 11, 12, 14, 16 SANKA II-C: Enhanced Engine III, Modified Wing, Enhanced Armor I, Modified Guns II, Overhaul Secondary Weapon: Long Range Gun (Heavy Gun, Rapid Gun, Shotgun all usable) Explanation: I prefer the Long Range Gun for Mission 17. Asterix by enemy aircraft name denotes skill (more asterix, better skill). If you have issues with the walkthrough and need a more visual representation, Cereblaze has the missions up on his youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/AlbinoAce [SC2A] Mission 01: Rudakai ******************************************************************************* Mission Briefing: Lautern aircraft are jamming our radar. Intercept and destroy them. Mission Type : Aerial Clear Conditions: Destroy all targets. Fail Conditions : Die/Crash. This mission is very straightforward. Fly towards your target (AB_Radar) which will be escorted by 1 Fission and take them both out. Repeat this with another AB_Radar and 2 Fission escorts that are close by. Destroy the third AB_Radar's escort fission but do not destroy the AB_Radar yet (it will end the mission). Fly past him and destroy the 4 Fissions that are well ahead first and then come back to destroy the final AB_Radar. Not only does this net you the most amount of points, but your overall grade is based on the number of enemy kills. ~S-Grade Note: Based on destroying all enemy aircraft. Enemy Outline (1 Wave) -------------------------------------- 1 AB_Radar (target), 1 Fission escort 1 AB_Radar (target), 2 Fission escorts 1 AB_Radar (target), 1 Fission escort 4 Fissions ------------------------------------------------------- |-----------------------------------------------------| | ENEMY INTEL: For Your Eyes Only | |-----------------------------------------------------| ------------------------------------------------------- | Air Ground Naval Target | | ------------ ------------ ------------ ------------ | | Fission 08 AB_Radar 03 | | | |Total Enemies: 11 | ------------------------------------------------------- [SC2B] Mission 02: Ubasama ******************************************************************************* Mission Briefing: Enemy fighters are targeting unarmed rookie ally aircraft. Intercept the enemy fighters and protect your allies. Mission Type : Aerial Clear Conditions: Destroy all targets. Fail Conditions : Die/Crash. There are 3 waves of enemy aircraft during this mission. Each wave is triggered by destroying the target Fission(s). During your first playthrough you may want to target the escorts first so the airspace does not become too crowded. During the second wave, an Enemy Ace named MADCAP will be among the escort Fissions. If you destroy him, you will receive a new Part to equip on your aircraft at the end of the mission (2 new parts if you also receive an S-Grade). During the third wave, re-inforcements will come after a set time. ~S-Grade Note: Based on destroying enemy aircraft (so save 1 target Fission until after you have shot down the escorts). Enemy Outline (3 Waves) -------------------------------------------------------------- Wave 1: 1 Target Fission, 2 Fission escorts Wave 2: 2 Target Fission, 4 Fission escorts (Enemy Ace MADCAP) Wave 3: 2 Target Fissions, 6 Fission escorts; 2 Target Fissions, 8 Fission escorts ------------------------------------------------------- |-----------------------------------------------------| | ENEMY INTEL: For Your Eyes Only | |-----------------------------------------------------| ------------------------------------------------------- | Air Ground Naval Target | | ------------ ------------ ------------ ------------ | | Fission 18 Fission 07 | | | |Total Enemies: 25 | ------------------------------------------------------- [SC2C] Mission 03: Maimahara ******************************************************************************* Mission Briefing: Intercept the enemy transport planes and stop them from making their deliveries. Mission Type : Aerial (but Recommend Bombs for ground) Clear Conditions: Destroy all targets. Fail Conditions : Allow Cargo planes to escape. Die/Crash. As you start the mission, 4 Fissions will be ahead of you. Dispatch them while waiting 30 seconds for the first target Cargo plane and its escort to show up. Once you destroy the Cargo plane, a second Cargo plane with escorts will show up SW of your position. On your way to the target, take out the 2 Fission squads and it is the ideal time to blow up 2 sets of ground units (1 AA, 1 Vehicle) located on the road below. After destroying the target, 2 more target Cargo planes and escorts will show up N of the garrison. Now is the best time to bomb all of the ground targets in the garrison including HADERA (Flak Gun) who is located near the center of the garrison. Take out the air support and the target Cargo planes. Once the targets are destroyed, the last Cargo plane with escorts will appear W in the clouds. You can use the air stream SW of the garrison to fly above the clouds where your final targets and escorts, including PACHIRA (Fission), will be located. ~S-Grade Note: Based on time (You can ignore all non-targets). Enemy Outline (5 Waves) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Wave 1: 4 Fission + Ground Units (Enemy Artillery Commander HADERA) Wave 2: 1 Target Cargo, 1 Vice escort Wave 3: 1 Target Cargo, 2 Vice escort; 3 Fission; 3 Fission Wave 4: 2 Target Cargo, 1 Vice escort; 2 Fission; 3 Fission Wave 5: 1 Target Cargo, 2 Target Vice, 6 Vice, 4 Fission (Enemy Ace PACHIRA) ------------------------------------------------------- |-----------------------------------------------------| | ENEMY INTEL: For Your Eyes Only | |-----------------------------------------------------| ------------------------------------------------------- | Air Ground Naval Target | | ------------ ------------ ------------ ------------ | | Fission 19 AA Gun 05 Cargo 05 | | Vice 10 Flak Gun 01 Vice 02 | | Tent 09 | | Vehicles 05 | | W. Eliminate the enemy and recapture Kiriki. Mission Type : Anti-Surface (Recommend UGBs) Clear Conditions: Destroy all targets. Fail Conditions : Die/Crash. Accelerate (once you are in range to start bombing, decelerate), raise your altitude (it makes it easier to destroy all of the ground units without having to turn around much) and switch to bombs. The first target will be straight ahead (with UGBs, you will destroy all of the other ground units in the nearby vicinity) followed by several tents closer to the river. Cross the river heading SW to destroy the 2nd and 3rd set of targets. Head back towards the river to take out some more tents, then cross the river to take out the 4th and 5th set of targets. Upon nearing the plant, 3 Vice and all of the ground units in the plant will be active. At some point while you are bombing ground units at the plant, a cut-scene will occur followed with more aircraft and Enemy Gunboat STAPLER will be around the middle of the plant heading S. The 6th set of targets is on the NE side of the Plant with some ground units W near the river. The 7th set of targets is on the Mid-West side of the plant with more ground units SW. Head E to take out ground units and the final set of ground targets. Use your map to see any ground units left. Your final targets will be 2 gunboats heading S (sometimes, STAPLER does not show up until now and he will be much further S along the river). Take out any air support and then your target gunboats to end the mission. ~S-Grade Note: Based on number of enemies destroyed (may be all ground units or 65+ kills). Whenever I only target ground/naval units, I always end up with 2-5 plane kills (either they suicide or ally kills count perhaps). Enemy Outline (3 Waves) ------------------------------------------------------------ Wave 1: 1st set of targets: E of river (your left); Several tents past this on same side. 2nd & 3rd set of targets: W of river; Several tents past this on same side. 4th & 5th set of targets: E of river 3 Vice Wave 2: Multiple ground unit squads in Plant area 2 Vice, 1 Fission 6th set of targets NE side of Plant 7th set of targets Mid-West side of Plant 8th set of targets SE side of Plant 2 Fission, 1 Vice 1 gunboat (Enemy Gunboat STAPLER in river heading S) Wave 3: 2 target gunboats heading S ------------------------------------------------------- |-----------------------------------------------------| | ENEMY INTEL: For Your Eyes Only | |-----------------------------------------------------| ------------------------------------------------------- | Air Ground Naval Target | | ------------ ------------ ------------ ------------ | | Fission 04 AA Gun 13 Gunboat 01 Gunboat 02 | | Vice 06 Flak Gun 09 Tank 15 | | Tank 01 | | Tent 08 | | Truck 14 | | | |Total Enemies: 73 | ------------------------------------------------------- [SC2E] Mission 05: Yaura ******************************************************************************* Mission Briefing: Enemy planes spotted over the Yaura River. Destroy them. Mission Type : Aerial Clear Conditions: Destroy all targets. Fail Conditions : Die/Crash. Head straight for and destroy the group of Fissions, then head SE to shoot down a group of 2 Fissions (Enemy Ace MAILBOX). Head W to shoot down another set of 2 Fissions and then destroy all of the target Vice. Eliminate the 5 Vice that show up and then there will be a cut-scene. Exact revenge on the 1 Tulip and then finish off the 6 Tulip reinforcements. ~S-Grade Note: Based on number of enemy destroyed. Enemy Outline (4 Waves) --------------------------------------------------- Wave 1: 8 Fissions (front); 5 target Vice (middle); 2 Fission SW; 2 Fission SE (including Enemy Ace MAILBOX); 3 target Vice (near Castle) Wave 2: 5 Vice Wave 3: 1 Tulip Wave 4: 6 Tulip ------------------------------------------------------- |-----------------------------------------------------| | ENEMY INTEL: For Your Eyes Only | |-----------------------------------------------------| ------------------------------------------------------- | Air Ground Naval Target | | ------------ ------------ ------------ ------------ | | Fission 12 Tulip 07 | | Vice 13 | | | |Total Enemies: 32 | ------------------------------------------------------- [SC2F] Mission 06: Baruka ******************************************************************************* Mission Briefing: Photograph mysterious structures head on. Mission Type : Aerial Clear Conditions: Take photos of all targets. Fail Conditions : Allow ally to die. Die/Crash. Fly at full speed to the left of your target. When you are close, veer right into the valley leading to the plant at a low altitude. Slow down and take a snapshot (a camera is your special weapon) when the snapshot bar is full (you must take the picture head on at approximately 800 km distance from the plant). Lift up over the dam and head straight into the next valley to take a picture of the next plant. Lift up and head towards the right of the 3rd target. When you are close, veer left into the valley to take the next picture. Lift up and head towards the right of the final target. When close, veer left into the valley and take your final picture. Lift up and wait for the cut-scene. Turn left and head towards the Red Marker (your ally Watari) at full speed. Ignore the fissions behind you (while you are travelling to Watari, one by one they will fly in front of you in which case you can quickly take them out). Once you get near Watari you will see 2 Tulips chasing him. Destroy the Tulips as fast as you can and head towards the next Red Marker (your ally Hiroto). Eliminate the 3 Tulips targeting him as fast as you can and head towards the final Red Marker (your ally Orishina). Shoot down the 3 Tulips chasing her as fast as you can. At this point you can take out any leftover Fissions from before as well as 2 Fissions N of Orishina's position and 2 aircraft S of Orishina's position (includes Enemy Ace OPTICIAN). Head E to cross the line. ~S-Grade Note: Based on protecting your allies and time. The only aircraft you need to concern yourself with are the Tulips attacking your allies. [SC2G] Mission 07: Nabaru ******************************************************************************* Mission Briefing: Gather data on the new test plane via a mock battle. Mission Type : Aerial Clear Conditions: Win Mock Battle. Fail Conditions : Lose Mock Battle. Die/Crash. The mission starts out with a Defensive test. You have to last 2 minutes against Orishina without sustaining enough imaginary damage to get shot down. The easiest method is to turn your plane on its side and continuously go in a loop at full speed. Make sure to maneuver out of the way right at the beginning because at higher difficulty levels, she will cause major damage (She starts out right behind you). The second test is an Offensive test. You have to inflict enough imaginary damage to ordinarily shoot her plane down within 2 minutes. During this time she will not fire back. After this you will engage in a free-for-all mock battle against Orishina. After inflicting enough damage on Orishina, you will be interrupted by real enemy aircraft (note: if you do not hit her enough, the enemy aircraft will appear after time runs out). Orishina will be quite miffed at being interrupted so she will speed past you to take out the first 2 enemy planes (Fission, Tulip). The next group of 4 planes will include the Enemy Ace A&B. After dispatching them, more aircraft will appear in groups that you must destroy to complete the mission. Note: Orishina's kills count towards your own (although you do not want her to destroy the enemy ace as you will not get the parts). ~S-Grade Note: Win against Orishina in both tests and trigger the end of the mock battle before time runs out. After defeating them, destroy the 3 ships in the harbor. Once the third ship is destroyed, Enemy Gunboat DOGDAYS will show up in the harbor heading away from shore towards the main fleet. Head towards the main fleet and destroy 1 Tulip and 3 Vice. Target one of the Tulips off to the side of the main fleet. After defeating it, destroy another Tulip that appears and target the Tulip on the opposite side of the fleet (if you destroy that, another Tulip may appear). Now eliminate the Glacier Fleet. Wait until the next 2 gunboats are closer to the Torrent and destroy them. After destroying the 3rd gunboat, 4 target Vice, 2 Fission, and 1 Fortune will come from the N. Fly as fast as you can and focus on destroying the 4 Vice. After destroying the target Vice, 4 target gunboats and 3 aircraft will come from the SE. Fly S destroying the target gunboats. At some point as you were engaging the gunboats, 5 target Vice and ~8 aircraft will come from the North. They will not advance on the Torrent until you are in their proximity. After destroying the gunboats, eliminate any remaining enemy aircraft in your area. The enemy reinforcements in the N will come further S than the target Vice so you can destroy them first (although you might wind up in the proximity of the target Vice while dogfighting). As soon as you near their vicinity, destroy the target Vice. After destroying 1 Vice, 4 target Vice and Enemy Ace ZODIAC will come from the N. After destroying the 2nd Vice, 3 target gunboats will come from the SE. Mission Type : Anti-Surface/Time Attack Clear Conditions: Destroy target at the proper time. Fail Conditions : Break altitude limit. Fail to destroy target in time limit. Enter restricted zone. Die/Crash. Follow the path at ~450 km/hr, bombing the gunboats along the way. Every now and then gusts of wind will slow you down/speed you up and increase your altitude so, for the most part, keep low (as you have an altitude limit on this mission). If you follow the route at the approximate speed you will hear Orishina say "All wings right on schedule." The third time she says it will be near the final corner where a large wind gust will speed you up and increase your altitude so be prepared. If you heard her say "All wings on schedule" each time you will encounter IRENE on the bridge (you will have to raise your altitude to destroy her). Bomb at least 1 AA gun and the 2 Vehicles and then use your guns to destroy the Generator when Orishina gives the cue. ~Note: Orishina will give verbal cues: 60 seconds left; 10 seconds left for the timed attack. The winds are dependent upon your difficulty level: On easy there will be no wind, and the timing between wind gusts decreases as you increase the difficulty. ~S-Grade Note: Based on your timing of destroying the objective (by destroying it right when she instructs you, you will achieve the S-Grade). Mission Type : Anti-Surface Clear Conditions: Destroy all targets. Fail Conditions : Die/Crash. Accelerate and raise your altitude (if you are using bombs). The first 2 AA Guns are on the beach straight ahead of you. The next 2 AA Guns are on the mountainside mid-way between the beach and the fort. After destroying them, raise your altitude even more (as flying high and slow make bombing multiple targets much easier). Destroy the first group of AA Guns on the outer walls and travel left/right along the outer wall destroying 2 more groups of AA Guns. At the edge of the
fort accelerate for a bit and then turn around for the next run. Start hitting
the 3 AT Guns from your side (they will take more than 1 regular bomb) and
then finish off the last 2 groups of AA Guns. Accelerate for a bit and turn
around hitting the AT Guns in a row. Keep strafing these until they are all
destroyed (it is best to strafe from side-side to avoid the Amoebic cannon's
fire; if you are targeted, accelerate and bank left/right). Now take out the
W. Towers and Enemy Tank Commander WISTERIA on the ground in-between the outer
wall and central platform. Finally, destroy the Amoebic Cannon.

You will now face an enemy plane in a one-on-one dogfight. He will be a little
more difficult than aircraft you have faced so far. Watch for him flying close
to the Volcano (you do not want to accidentally fly into it). Your first time
facing him might be difficult especially as your aircraft is loaded for an
anti-surface mission but you can always retry equipping an aircraft better
suited for Air-Air battles.

~S-Grade Note: Based on points. You only need to destroy the Amoebic Cannon,
5 AT Guns, Suiga, and maybe one non-W. Tower(no retry from checkpoint).
~Royal Ace Medal: Shoot down enemy plane in under 2.5 minutes. You can retry
from the Air-Air section and get this (Normal difficulty or higher).

[SC2L] Mission 12: Tokatsu
*******************************************************************************

Mission Briefing: Destroy the enemy reserves base.
Mission Type : Anti-Surface
Clear Conditions: Destroy all targets.
Fail Conditions : Die/Crash.

This is a very straightforward mission. Destroy one set of targets (only one
set will be showing at a time) and move onto the next one. I found that 1 bomb
generally took care of all but 1 of the enemy targets at a site which I would
just use machine guns to finish off (except the 4th site which I used 2 bombs).
After the 4th set of ground targets destroyed, instead of heading towards the
next target, head SW (right of the target) and use your guns to destroy Enemy
Survivalist PINCURL (tent).

Accelerate and raise altitude towards your final target. After destroying one
of the targets an ambush will be revealed with a bunch of AA Guns and Flak
Guns as well as enemy aircraft. You may find it useful to leave the target
area and eliminate the enemy aircraft without worrying about AA fire. The
mission ends once you have destroyed the last ground target.

[SC2M] Mission 13: Nabaru
*******************************************************************************

Mission Briefing: Escort the chief engineer to Kiriki.
Mission Type : Aerial
Clear Conditions: Make it to the line of safety.
Fail Conditions : Die/Crash.

On this mission you can just fly low using the central mountains as cover and
then fly into the valleys (making sure to bobble left and right so you are not
an easy target from behind); however, I will describe an offensive approach.

After going through the 1st Wind Stream, 5 Fortunes will appear. Dispatch them
and head NW towards the lone naval target. As soon as you enter the 2nd Wind
Stream, new enemy aircraft will arrive. Head NW and destroy Enemy Gunboat
DARLING in a small lake. Eliminate the enemy aircraft and more will show up,
including an enemy ace in a Sanka II-C (indestructible?).

Fly past the line of safety to end the mission.

~S-Grade Note: Based on time (fly along the mountain to your left and use
that as a barrier until it ends, then fly low into valleys leading to the
line of safety).

[SC2N] Mission 14: Kiriki
*******************************************************************************

Mission Briefing: Protect the Wolfram.
Mission Type : Aerial/Anti-Surface
Clear Conditions: Protect the Wolfram.
Fail Conditions : Allow the Wolfram to be destroyed. Die/Crash.

Engage the enemy aircraft near the Wolfram. Even though you will get the
message that enemy bombers are to the N, do not pursue the enemy bombers until
you get the message, "Bombers Sighted" (to keep you closer to the Wolfram).
After you destroy the 3 target bombers, another group of bombers will be coming
from the N. Again, finish off enemy aircraft in the area and engage when they
say "Bombers Sighted." Among the escorts of this second wave is Enemy Ace
TOOLKIT. Note: Once you destroy all regular aircraft, more show up.

After destroying the 2nd wave of bombers, tanks will come from the E side of
the plant. They will deploy a smokescreen to cover themselves. UGBs and NPBs
are best here (although you can destroy them with regular guns, just aim
slightly off the front of the smokescreen).

After a certain amount of time or tank kills, a final wave of bombers will
appear from the N. Finish up the tanks and then destroy the target bombers.

~S-Grade Note: Based on protecting the Wolfram (how much damage is inflicted
upon it).

~Tip: When flying straight at the bombers, slow down so you can destroy them
on one pass; If you miss one, keep going and destroy any bombers behind it
before turning around, speeding up and destroying any left from behind.

[SC2O] Mission 15: Ubasama
*******************************************************************************

Mission Briefing: Persuade the Kildren against defection or eliminate them.
Mission Type : Aerial
Clear Conditions: Destroy all targets.
Fail Conditions : Die/Crash.

Quickly close the distance and either target Ishitori or Watari (Ukumori will
automatically disappear after the conversation ends). After engaging the enemy
for a little while, enemy reinforcements show up (including Enemy Ace INSIDER
near the clouds). If you destroy Ishitobi first, Watari will start to flee.
You can either destroy Watari or destroy all of the other enemy aircraft until
Watari flees.

Note: I do not think you can shoot down Ishitobi or Watar until the initial
dialogue is concluded.

Now you will face Ukumori one-on-one. He uses the sun and the clouds (while in
the clouds, you will lose the targeting reticule) as a diversion. He is easy
to play chicken with (especially if he is in the clouds, fly in the opposite
direction until he starts to pursue, turn and fire at him head on - this method
is very effective with the Long Range Gun). Once you down his plane, the
mission is over.

~S-Grade Note: Time based; however, I believe the time is based on Ukumori's
fight as you can S-Grade by shooting down all planes and letting Watari flee
during the first section (but I do not think you can get an S if you retry
 from the checkpoint).
~Top Ace Medal: Shoot down Ukumori in under 3 minutes. You can retry from the
 checkpoint (Normal difficulty or higher).

[SC2P] Mission 16: Kiriki
*******************************************************************************

Mission Briefing: Destroy the Wolfram.
Mission Type : Aerial
Clear Conditions: Destroy all targets.
Fail Conditions : Allow the Wolfram to leave the area. Die/Crash.

Close in on the Wolfram from the rear. When you get close a cut-scene will
occur. Slow down and use your guns to take out the L. Gun and 2 AA Guns on the
side. Fly up and use a bomb to take out the 2 FCUs on top. Keep flying for a
little while, turn, and take the 2nd L. Gun and 2 AA Guns on the other side.
After you destroy the 2nd L. Gun, 2 more L. Guns will appear on the top and
bottom. Destroy them to end the 1st section.

Increase your altitude and use your bombs on the center of the Wolfram to take
out the 1st chimney, A. Mines, and 2nd chimney. Veer left or right and use your
bombs to take out a 3rd chimney and the surrounding AA Guns one one side of
the front section. Clean up by attacking the Wolfram from side-to-side and
destroying the leftover AA Guns. When you are ready, destroy the final chimney
and surrounding AA Guns with bombs. Note: You do not need bombs, napalm, etc.
to complete this although when you fly close to the Wolfram during this section
the winds tend to slam you into the Wolfram.

Increase your altitude and bomb the B. Cannon and the 2 FCU, 4 AA Guns on top
(you can take out all 6 on top with one bomb placed in the center). Keep flying
straight towards the plant at Kiriki to destroy the Enemy Gunboat (USHIO). As
you fly back to the Wolfram, take out 2 waves of 3 aircraft. Assault the
Wolfram from the sides to destroy the final 4 AA Guns (a bomb placed in-between
each set will destroy both of them). Destroy the rest of the enemy aircraft and
then take out the B. Cannon to end the mission.

Note: Once you hit the B. Cannon for the first time, the traitor will start a
monologue. During this time, you cannot damage the B. Cannon. You will only be
able to damage the cannon again after he gives his last line screaming
"Cheetah!"

USHIO Note: Sometimes he does not appear at all. In my opinion, the best way to
ensure he shows up is to destroy everything in Section 1 while taking a little
over 2 minutes, and destroy everything in Section 2 while taking over a little
over 3 minutes.

~S-Grade Note: Based on number of enemy destroyed. You should have 7800 points
before destroying the B. Cannon.
~Smash Hunter Medal: Destroy the Wolfram in under 6 minutes. Simply go
straight for the targets and it should not pose a problem (Normal difficulty

[SC2Q] Mission 17: Togakuten
*******************************************************************************

Mission Briefing: Destroy all enemies. Shoot down Orishina.
Mission Type : Aerial
Clear Conditions: Destroy enemy aircraft.
Fail Conditions : Die/Crash.

First Time Recommendation: Your first time playing this mission will be very
difficult as Orishina is very fast and maneuverable and she can damage your
plane very quickly. I would recommend re-playing the other missions and
getting better parts before playing this mission as it may save you some grief.
The plane I used was the Sanka M-II with Rapid Guns (Enhanced Engine II,
Modified Wing, Enhanced Armor III, Modified Guns II, and Anti-Air Set).

Accelerate and take out the 1st 2 waves of 4 aircraft (they come at you head on,
so you should be able to destroy most, if not all, of them by firing and using
your yaw). After this, head towards the rest of the enemy. Enemy Ace FOREST is
among them in a Skyly D in the set of aircraft on the left of your initial
direction. Engage enemy aircraft until the Lautern commander orders them to
retreat leading to a cut-scene (you have approximately 3 minutes 15 seconds for
this section).

Note: You must get 3000+ points to trigger the end of Section 1. This is
important if you are going for the S-grade. The only time I had some trouble
triggering it by the usual 3 minutes 15 seconds default is on Ace difficulty.

For the second section, dogfight Orishina (ignore the retreating planes as you
probably will not be able to catch up with them before they leave). The section
ends when you land enough hits on her and she says, "Now I can read all your
moves" (it may take some more hits after this). In the beginning I recommend
flying straight at her at cruising speed to hit her alot.

For the third section, you have a choice. Destroy the AA Guns and Flak Guns or
engage Orishina. If you choose the AA Gun route, Orishina helps you take out
the guns and will end when the last Flak gun is destroyed with her saying,
"I'll destroy anyone in my way. Cheetah, let's start over." If you choose to
engage Orishina, it ends after you damage her enough until she says, "That's
amazing. You really are strong." I usually engage Orishina in a dogfight at
the castle - the reason for this is because while she is near the castle, she
does not perform as many maneuvers and flies straight at some sections making
her an easy target (and have not found the AA guns/Flak guns to be very
accurate). You should base your decision on what you are more comfortable
doing. Note: It is unconfirmed, but you may need to dogfight Orishina during
this fight in Hard Story Mode to unlock Ace difficulty.

The final section is a straight dogfight with Orishina. During the inital
engagement, she will generally keep it close combat with tight turns. After
enough damage, she will say "Uh, you're even more...I won't lose to you just
yet." At this point, she will fly straight for the clouds above. During this
period, she will not go too far from the clouds as she uses them to mess up
your lock on her (you can fly away from the clouds until she stops pursuit,
turn and head straight for her - she should come out of the clouds to a point
to play chicken). After some more damage, she will start playing chicken with
you. Keep the damage up and she will finally go down.

Note: After defeating the mission multiple times, I would suggest continuing
your dogfight with Orishina rather than trying to play chicken if you want the
S-Grade.

"I know the true joy of flying free through the sky"
                              Congratulations

~S-Grade Note: Based on your plane's damage and time. Your plane's damage
indicator must be WHITE and you must finish in ~10 - 10 1/2 minutes.
~Excellent Ace Medal: Shoot down Orishina in under 4 minutes during the final
section.

[SC5] Unlockables
*******************************************************************************

New aircraft are unlocked by completing missions in story mode with some
available on hard mode on your second playthrough.

New parts are obtained by destroying titled enemies during each mission. Some
titled enemies give you a second part if you receive an S-Grade on the mission.

New paint schemes are obtained by achieving certain grades on missions. A
B-Grade will open up a Color 2 paint scheme, A-Grade will open up a Color 3
paint scheme, S-Grade will open up a Color 4 paint scheme (and Color 5 paint
scheme after you have completed the story once). If you achieve the grade but
have not unlocked the plane yet, you will obtain the paint scheme at the same
time you unlock the plane.

New secondary weapons are obtained by increasing your point totals.

New maneuvers are obtained by performing certain sets of maneuvers 100 times.

*Destroy the Named target and achieve a certain requirement (points, time,
other). For most, the normal course of achieving the S-grade will be enough;
however, the grade is not the determinant. If the S-grade requirement is
points, finish faster (Mission 07, Mission 11). If the S-grade requirement is
time, earn more points (Mission 03). Mission 09 may be points or a perfect
protection score. Mission 05 has three parts. I am not sure if you need to
have earned Enhanced Engine II before you can get Enhanced Engine III.
