I hope I can help you with this fun aspect of the game, which includes a total of 100 pieces waiting to be found. These pieces of art were actually selected from a contest held before the game's release on it's official homepage. Everyone could draw and submit their own concept for an enemy in the game and the best ones were chosen. One was made into an actual character in the game, the other 99 were put in as collection pieces. Awesome idea, in my opinion. Soon after you defeat the first King you will meet Ginger Kyde, a traveling artist. He wants to set up an art gallery, however, unfortunately, he lost all the art pieces he had: and he asks you to find all 100 of them and bring them back to him. Of course you should accept, as he will also reward you with some nice items. Art Pieces can be found all over the world, so look out for them all the time. ***Disclaimer*** If you find some error in my guide or have an idea how to improve it otherwise, don't hesitate to contact me (see Legal Stuff / Contacts section). Also, this guide is based on the European version of the game and should be correct also for the Japanese version once it comes out. The US version does feature other paintings as Xseed held a separate contest for th US. However, it seems that except for the drawings themselves and their names, nothing has changed. The Art Piece numbering and their placement in the game still corresponds to the PAL version. (I'm not 100% sure about the Grand Prize fight, though.) I'd be glad if also my last doubts could be erased by a US version owner, or someone would tell me about the exact differences. ----------------------+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++-------------------------- + What to do with Art Pieces? + [_0200_] ----------------------+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++-------------------------- Once you find an Art Piece, you can bring it back to Ginger. He sets up his tent (and the Gallery tent) in the forest just east of Castle Town. To find him, go into the forest and then walk northwards at the large clearing. Go to the big tent and press 'A' in front of it, when the ? appears. This triggers a conversation with Ginger in which he tells you how many pieces you just brought back this time, how many you've collected overall and how many you should bring him until he offers you his next reward(s). If you look into the small tent, you can have a look at the actual drawings together with their name and who drew them. Additionally, all Art Pieces you found and returned become selectable as a painting in the Castle - try it out. ---------------------------+++++++++++++++++++++++----------------------------- + Art Piece Locations + [_0300_] ---------------------------+++++++++++++++++++++++----------------------------- The number of the Art Piece as numbered also in-game is given within brackets, followed by the name and author of the image. The section started with '?' is where/how the Art Piece is found/obtained. Use the search function of your program, which is most of the time opened using the shortcut (Ctrl + F) and type in the number of the Art Piece you're missing to quickly jump to your desired piece. *** Also, keep in mind that a lot of Art Pieces only appear after a certain building has been erected or after a certain area has been cleared. *** Some shiny holes only appear at night, so if you can't seem to find one described here, make sure you check it out at nighttime. *** If you play the US version, the numbers should still corresond to the Art Piece locations, but you'll have to look up the name and author in chapter _0500_. You found 100 paintings! " All of the paintings have been returned to Ginger and his art gallery. All's well that ends well(?) " ---------------------------+++++++++++++++++++++++----------------------------- + Dealer's Confession + [_0400_] ---------------------------+++++++++++++++++++++++----------------------------- In order to obtain Art Piece #1, the Gallery Grand Prize that actually won the competition, you need to find 50 other Art Pieces first. After that, a new challenge will appear via a letter in the suggestion box: Dealer's Confession, issued by Ginger Accept it and go see Ginger in his tent in the Royal Forest. He will then explain that the Grand Price picture actually had escaped from the canvas, thus leaving it blank. Your task is now to defeat the 'Swarm', so it will go back on the canvas. (The US version has a slightly different fight against the the 'Evil Dragoon Cat - but I don't have more info on that yet.***) The 'Swarm' consists of a lot of paper-cut creatures. You can't actually kill them individually, but you can topple them over by sending some troops towards them. They won't stay down for very long, though! In order to win the fight, you need to have them lying flat on the floor all at the same time within the given time, so you have to be quick. Luckily, there's a small twist to it that helps you, as you actually only need to deal with three groups: 1 - There's a large group lined up in a half circle: topple the one in front, which is the one in the east end and all others will fall over, too. 2 - There's a second large group put up in a full triangle formation like for bowling: topple the front one and all others behind it will fall over, too. 3 - There are three individual creatures among a few trees: act fast and distribute your troops to attack all of them in quick succession. Attack the three groups quickly one after the other, don't wait until you see them go down but immediately turn to the next one, and you'll succeed eventually. The suggested order is the order given above, because the half- circle group takes the longest to fall down entirely, followed by the triangle formation. The imposed time limit should not be a problem, and you can always try again. Congratulations! Beside some other loot, you also obtain Art Piece No. 001. *** It looks like the fight is actually the same in the US version, only the Grand Prize's name and drawing is changed. (Thanks for GameFAQs user jive238 for the info.) -------------------------------++++++++++++++--------------------------------- + US Version + [_0500_] -------------------------------++++++++++++++--------------------------------- For the US Version of the game, which came out later (July 09 as compared to April 09 for the PAL version), a separate contest was held where 100 new pictures were chosen. Here's what I got (I guess it's always the same, but I'm not sure yet): 5 Pieces : Toy Sword Toy Spear Toy Bow 10 Pieces : Furry Kilt 15 Pieces : Sterile Undies x2 Viper Sticker 20 Pieces : Health Undies 25 Pieces : Hand Cooler x3 40 Pieces : Pancho Poncho 55 Pieces : Hand Warmer x3 70 Pieces : Legendary Dress 85 Pieces : Paperweight x3 100 Pieces : Legendary Armor If you bring back more Art Pieces at once, the rewards combine, meaning you can't accidentally skip something. -------------------------------+++++++++++++----------------------------------- + Questions + [_0700_] -------------------------------+++++++++++++----------------------------------- This section is dedicated to commonly asked questions. So far, there aren't many... But I will update it whenever I feel the need of it - which means as soon as somebody asks a question that isn't already answered in this guide. So if you have a question, or have found a mistake or would like to have something added, don't hesitate to contact me at: DrLagoona (at) hotmail (dot) com. __________ Q: Do I need to complete this quest / the Gallery to finish the game? A: No. All of this is an optional sidequest that gives some nice items as rewards, but none of them is needed to finish the game. __________ Q: I have been trying to work out how to get the art pieces out of trees. I take it by reading your guide that you need children. Is that correct? (by Darren) A: Yes, that's correct. Accept a Child to your Royal Guard, then send it running at a blue tree (only blue ones work). The child will climb up and bring the Art Piece down to you. To get a Child, send a couple that is in love into the church (either observe some hearts over the head of your citizens, sometimes also the daily newsticker tells you about someone falling in love or simply try sending all of your Royal Guard members, when you're a bit into the game this works often). __________ ----------------------------+++++++++++++++++++-------------------------------- + Version history + [_0800_] ----------------------------+++++++++++++++++++-------------------------------- Version 0.99 - Guide written with all important sections, with only 99/100 Art (05/25/09) Pieces. This is the first official, accepted version. Rewards still need updating. Version 1.00 - Added the last missing Art Piece and the reward for the 100 Art (05/29/09) Pieces completion. Also adapted the strategy for the 'Swarm' fight. Some minor changes and adaptations. Version 1.01 - Added a question about children. (06/04/09) Version 1.02 - Finalized the rewards section (verifying the first four rewards' (06/15/09) order and after how many APs you get them). Corrected the typhoony family's name. Version 1.03 - Confirmed the US numbering and that the US placement of APs was (07/31/09) the same as the PAL one, also that the Grand Prize fight was very similar (thanks to dragonmere, jive238 and Kiariy). (08/04/09) Added PayPal information for voluntary donations. As mentioned at the start, this version is based on the European version. The US version has different paintings, but the GameFAQs users mentioned above helped confirming their numbering and that the corresponding placement in the game has remained the same. Please notify me of any differences or errors! Furthermore, I assume that the JAP version will still have the same APs as the PAL one. Of course this will also need verification once that version is out (probably in September). ------------------------+++++++++++++++++++++++++------------------------------ + Legal Stuff / Contact + [_0900_] ------------------------+++++++++++++++++++++++++------------------------------ This guide is copyrighted 2009 by 'CJ' Lagoona.
