ESCAPE FROM BUG ISLAND - Bonus Objective Guide by SCXCR Contents I. Disclaimer/Introduction II. General Information and Advice III. Level Guide IV. Legal Stuff ==================== I. DISCLAIMER/INTRODUCTION ==================== Right off the bat I'd like to thank Delition Hikari for his initial FAQ on this game. Without it I doubt I would have been able to find/do some of these objectives. However, through experimentation I've found certain ways to do these objectives that are much easier than what is suggested. Bear in mind, these were done on the Normal difficulty, and I can't speak for how well they apply to either Easy or Hard. And on a personal note, I dedicated way more time to finding out some of these workarounds than any sane person should ever dedicate to this game. That being said... ==================== II. GENERAL INFORMATION AND ADVICE ==================== -Completing bonus objectives, in addition to making you feel good (or bad) about yourself for bothering to do them, also give a bonus to the purple fragments you get for each level. The number of fragments varies depending on the difficulty of the objective. Purple fragments count toward getting bonus items to spawn in certain parts of later levels. -As you might guess by the haphazard way the objectives are implemented in the game, the bonus objectives are not crucial to completing any part of the game. Their only appearing after either already completing the objective or the level they're in evidence that. -It is possible to backtrack to a previous level to complete any bonus objectives that were missed. There's one objective where this is necessary to do. -There are a grand total of 57 bonus objectives in the game, with 3 each for 19 stages. Well, technically 18 stages and a "bonus" area. Some you'll complete simply by basic level progression, but others require a ridiculous amount of time and/or effort to complete. -The only level that doesn't have any objectives is the last level where you confront the final boss. -If you're going for an A or S rank, do NOT do all the bonus objectives. Final rank is determined by a combination of total time, deaths, enemies killed, and bonus objectives. The cut-off for getting an S for completion time specifically is around two hours thirty minutes while the cut-off for S rank on bonus objectives is around 30. You can get an S rank in every other category, but if you get an E for completion time (which you will if you try doing every objective), you'll wind up with an overall B rank and not be able to start a new game with the bonus items. -Most of the objectives in this game come down to a few different types: 1. Kill X Amount of Enemy Y - Self-explanatory, though certain levels do find ways to make this more difficult than it should be. 2. Find X Amount of Item Y - See number one. The game likes to hide some of these items off the beaten path or in/around shrubs and tall grass where they're hard to see. 3. Time-Based Objectives - Doing a certain thing within a time limit. Most of these objectives are tied to boss fights, though not all are. And before you ask, no, there's no on-screen timer for these. -When you finish an objective, an on-screen notification appears to let you know it's done. -Unless otherwise noted, any grammar errors or spelling mistakes in the names of the bonus objectives are typed as they appear in the game. With all that out of the way, let's proceed. ==================== III. LEVEL GUIDE ==================== Level 1: Ruins #1. Destroy 10 wooden boxes This objective can be a pain to do because there are only 10 boxes total in the level. Therefore, missing one means not getting the bonus. Also of note is that most of these boxes, and several throughout the course of the game, don't have anything in them. Yay. The box locations are: 1. At the northern-most cabin on the map, go up the ramp and then follow the patio that extends along the side of the building. A crate is at the end of this section. 2. Go behind this same cabin. At the back near the right side is another crate. 3. Go behind the partially-destroyed cabin directly south of the camp. Between the wreckage and the wall is the third crate with nothing in it. 4. Move to the wide-open area where the Tutorial took place. Southeast of the orange tree and near the east wall are a few shrubs. There's another box with nothing in it hidden here. 5-6. Proceed to the docks. At the east dock is a boat called the Fresh Wood. Climb aboard it to find two boxes. And a mango! 7-9. Head to the east pier next to the dock to find three more boxes. The first one contains an orange. 10. Found on the right wall along the path to the Grove, it can be seen right after the cutscene introducing the killer fish. #2. Kill 5 Killer Fish By far the easiest objective to finish from a time standpoint, the killer fish appear after triggering the second cutscene while running toward the Grove level. Where they jump is determined by where you are when they leave the ground, so dodging them is as easy as not standing still. They have a huge recovery time after landing so try and kill them after their initial attack. #3. Kill 50 Centipedes Centipedes in this game come in two varieties. There are large ones that require weapons to kill (at this point, the stick, knife or rocks) and smaller ones that you can simply step on by running over them. The smaller ones can be killed more efficiently by backing up when the centipedes start coming toward you. This will lure a bunch of them into a straight line, making it really easy to step on all the small ones and rack up a lot of centipede kills faster. You can also take advantage of the circle-based AI pathing of these by standing/running against a wall to lure most of them into one area, then just swing at the ground to kill them like an assembly line of death. ________________________________ Level 2: Grove #1. Get 10 oranges There are three orange trees scattered around this area, with each having 3 or 4 oranges in or around them. In other words, you pretty much need to find all of them to get this objective. 1. Southwest of the eastern-most shack, this one should be close enough to see right away. It helps that there's an orange already sitting next to the tree. 2. Go as far east on the map as possible. You should be above the L-shaped ridge. The orange tree will be east and just slightly north of the shack with the save point in it, closer to the map boundary. This one doesn't have an orange next to it, so be sure to look up at the tree leaves now and then to find it. 3. Northwest of the shack with the save point in it and to the west of a log is the third tree. Again, look up to find this one. #2. Kill 10 Praying Mantises Considering how massive the hit box is on these things, this objective shouldn't be much trouble even when encountering more than one at a time. It is possible to destroy the mantis nest to the north immediately and still encounter enough of these to complete the objective. #3. Fall in all of the traps (Author's note: Why would you ever make a bonus objective that revolves around intentionally injuring yourself?) I'd dare to say this is the most annoying objective to try and complete in the entire game. Across the level are some pitfall traps that cause the ground to crumble and send Ray into a three-foot deep pit of centipedes. There are a total of 8 traps to find in this area and some of them are rather poorly marked, on top of being difficult to see to begin with. Most of them can be barely made out in first-person mode by looking for an out-of-place semi-circular dent in the ground. Also note that the trap won't trigger unless you walk directly over the center of it, so sometimes you can actually run over the trap without triggering it. Anyway, now for the trap placement. 1. Directly north of the path from the entrance, between where you fight the first mantis and the rock ridge. 2. Directly north of the northern-most shack on the map, near where the mantis nest is. 3. Southeast of that shack and northeast of the shack with the save point below it, roughly equidistant between the two. 4. Southwest of the shack with the save point in it, between that and the ridge overlooking the rock pile. 5. Southeast of the shack with the save point in it, this one is closer to the ridge next to the path leading down to the far east portion of the map 6. Directly south of the eastern-most shack on the map. This one will be closer to the south edge of the map than the shack. 7. Go to the path that leads up to the western portion of the map. From the bottom of it, run east and slightly south. If you find it from this angle, it should be in front of a V-shaped tree. 8. South of the mantis tree and west of the northern-most shack. ________________________________ Level 3: Forest #1. Get a bat After crossing the last log leading up to the cabin, head to the northwest to find a narrow pass west of the giant tree. At the end of this pass is a tarp. Choose to turn the tarp over and you'll find the bat. #2. Kill 50 Crickets This will be the first instance I'll mention of a peculiar programming issue with Bug Island I'll simply refer to as the “aggro line.” In some areas enemies will only notice you or pursue you if you step beyond an invisible line on the map. Having your light on has no effect on where this line happens, and it stays in the same place regardless of where the enemies are. This can become hilarious as sometimes enemies will simply walk right past you and not notice you at all until you've already started attacking them, and even then some enemies STILL won't notice you. For example, there is an aggro line near the beginning of the level. The crickets won't attack you until a point right near the shrubs. As such, you can just hang back and chuck rocks at these crickets. Another thing you can do is intentionally cross the line to get some of the crickets closer, then step behind it again and hit the crickets while they either stand in place or go back to their previous placement. Aside from that, you can get some easy cricket kills when you reach the top of the hill. If you look down into the ravines you'll see several crickets pathing around in circles. There are also a few rock piles near some of the log crossings. If you've got some patience, you can kill these crickets with no risk of being attacked. #3. Kill 20 Carnivorous Plants At the top of the hill before the first log-crossing is where you'll first find these beartrap-looking things. There are enough in this one area to complete the objective. ________________________________ Level 4: River #1. Get a Steel Pipe After crossing the second log with killer fish jumping over it, there will be a tree in the middle of a clearing with some toads and flies around it. At the top of this tree will be a shiny object. Throw a rock at it to knock it out of the tree. Congratulations, you have a steel pipe now. #2. Kill 2 Giant Gorillas The first gorilla appears near the beginning of the level, just before the first bridge. The second one appears after the first log crossing with killer fish jumping over it. Even using the sickle these won't be too hard to taken down, especially since by "kill" the game means "hit them until they jump in the air and never come back down." Just hit the gorilla in the face with a rock, then do a couple downward attack combos on one of its legs. That should be enough to drive it away both times. #3. Kill 20 Flies These things show up all over the level, to the point where you can ignore some areas entirely and still get this bonus. There are just over 30 flies in the whole level, so just kill them as they start buzzing around Ray and you'll more likely than not get this one. ________________________________ Level 5: Path #1. Get 5 oranges As soon as you reach the top of the path, there will be an orange sitting on the ground near the treeline. Look up to find an orange tree with 4 more oranges hanging from it. #2. Kill 1 Giant Gorilla This one shows up at the beginning of the level, just before you start going up the path. The same strategy as before applies. Rock to the face, swing swing swing. #3. Get 20 Ant Bombs Hopefully you have the honey found in the safe from the previous level, or else this could be a pain to pull off. There are trees along the path you can spread honey on which will cause the ants to completely ignore you and go for that. While they're eating it, hit them with the insecticide to kill them. If you don't have the honey, you can still kill them with the insecticide as they charge you. It's more risky, but it works. Once dead you can then pick up the ants and use them as makeshift grenades. There are enough ants in the area that you can have a few of them explode and still get this objective done by the time you reach the top of the path. ________________________________ Level 6: Hillside #1. Destroy 10 wooden boxes 1. Climb the boxes to the east to get on top of the cabin, then check the west side of the roof. 2-4. These are located in various parts of the cabin. Just be sure to check every corner and not mistake them for the unbreakable background crates. 5. In the shack to the east of the cabin. It's the same one that holds the journal entry marked by the yellow dot on the map. 6-8. Go north of the cabin and take the east split in the path. These will be lying around in plain sight on the way to the barn. 9. Next to the barn, just to the left of the doors. 10. Inside the barn, to the right of the doors leading to the giant sand worm. #2. Get 1 Heart Mushroom When you go directly north of the cabin there's a split to the east, west, a narrow bridge to cross, and a narrow ridge leading up to another narrow bridge. Go up the ridge and cross the bridge, then climb up the low hill to find the heart mushroom. Be mindful of the carnivorous plants on the ground. #3. Kill 5 Lizard Women Seeing as Ray has sandbags now, you can do one of two things. One, huck a sandbag at the lizard woman's face to stun them and then beat/slash them to death, or stand back and huck rocks at them until they fall over and use a melee finisher. I tend to do the latter as they're slow enough to easily pull this off. There are 8 in the area, so don't worry too much about not finding enough of them. ________________________________ Level 7: Cave to the Peak #1. Get some barbed wire The barbed wire is located in the southeast corner of the map at the dead end of a long, straight tunnel. To get to it, turn right (north) at the first split, then right (south) and just follow the cave to the end. #2. Kill 5 Canine Men These and the lizard women become easier to fight later on, but for now here's what you can do. Hit the thing with a rock to stop it from charging or otherwise running around, then while it's recovering run up and mercilessly slash/bash it to death. There are 10 of these here, so you won't have to go out of your way to find them. #3. Kill 5 Lizard Women Self-explanatory. There should be enough sand bags around the cave to make this objective particularly simple to pull off. There are 8 lizard women in this level. ________________________________ Level 8: Temple #1. Get a lance As soon as you climb the stairs into the temple there will be a large set of double-doors in front of you. This room is loaded with crickets, centipedes and a cockroach. The lance is located at the altar opposite the doors. You can either try sprinting through the room, grabbing the lance and getting out, or take advantage of the fact that nothing in the room will start chasing you until you're about eight feet inside. It's possible to stand in the doorway or even slowly step inside the room, let the doors close and not alert anything, letting you thin their ranks a bit before making a run for the lance. #2. Kill 15 Praying Mantises Unlike in the Grove, there aren't enough mantises in the field to get away with destroying the nest right away. Kill all of those first, then you can essentially spawn camp for the rest of the mantises before knocking down the nest. #3. Kill a Giant Gorilla If you got the lance, this fight just got a lot simpler. For some reason one-handed melee weapons tend to not be able to reach the gorilla unless you're directly to the side of one of its legs. The lance, in addition to its strength, also has a longer reach and can hit the gorilla from more angles. For this fight I recommend having the lance and sand bags equipped. The sand bags will stun the gorilla for just as long as the lizard women, so it makes for an easy way to get a ton of shots in. ________________________________ Level 9: Cave of Time #1. Get 1 Heart Mushroom This can be found in the second room where the centipedes appear. Just check the northern alcove and it'll be there. #2. Save Michelle in 30sec Possible the easiest objective in the game, When you find Michelle after dropping down to the second part of the cave she'll get surrounded by flies. Just run up to Michelle with the melee weapon of your choice and swing wildly until all the flies are dead. Don't worry about hitting Michelle. You won't be able to hit her. #3. Kill 15 Spiders After rescuing Michelle you'll have to escort her (sort of) through a room full of spiders. You can just take your time with these, especially since many of the spiders will end up getting stuck either on the pillars or on some of the rocks. Rocks, melee, either work for this one, especially when there are 23 spiders in the area. ________________________________ Level 10: Ruins Welcome back! Don't like bonus objectives that repeat themselves? Too bad! #1. Destroy 10 wooden boxes Like before, missing one of these means not completing the objective. Unlike before, the placement is slightly different. 1. Behind the cabin north of the camp. It will be along the boundary and off to the left. 2. Inside the cabin north of the camp, sitting in front of the stove. 3. Hidden in the shrubs in the tutorial area, just south of the orange tree. 4. In the shrubs in the tutorial area in the southeast corner, before you hit the docking area. 5-7. At the end of the partially-destroyed concrete pier. 8-9. On the boat by the wooden dock. 10. Along the east wall about halfway up the spider and fish-laden path to the Forest level. #2. Kill 20 Spiders Instead of centipedes, spiders appear in the later half of this level. You can stay back and chuck rocks at them or melee them, whatever floats your boat. #3. Kill 5 Killer Fish They appear in the same area as before, sans cutscene. Yawn, moving on. ________________________________ Level 11: Grove #1. Get 5 Red Mushrooms There are a few places to find these, including: -Along the north wall leading to the secret cave west of the entrance. -To the left of the steps leading into the shack where Harry and Lynn are hiding. -At the base of a tree in the southwest of the area where you fight the gorilla. By far the easiest way to get this objective, however, is to just run through the secret cave. Any item pick-ups or kills in there count toward either this objective or the second objective, so really you can do all the objectives in this area just within the secret cave. #2. Kill 20 Praying Mantises Be sure not to take out the nest to the north right away. For one thing it makes getting this objective easier, and if you destroy it before talking to Harry the nest will spawn again. #3. Get 2 treasures in the cave These areas were blocked off by rocks the first time through, but now they're not because... uh... The secret cave in this level is to the west of the entrance. The "treasures" are weapons and equipment you can use for the rest of the game and they spawn at random in some part of a randomly-generated cave map. If you find a grenade at any point in the secret area, it means the treasure didn't spawn and you'll have to exit and try to run through the cave again. I've had to run one of these secret areas 8 times to get both items to spawn, though usually it only takes 3 or 4 tries. Anyway, the items to look for here are the shovel and the mantis scythe. Good luck! ________________________________ Level 12: Forest #1. Get 2 Heart Mushrooms The first one is located by the large tree you run through the reach the second half of the level. When you approach it from the front, climb up the first root when prompted. Instead of climbing up the next one, keep following the root you're on along the left side of the tree. The heart mushroom will be at the end. The second heart mushroom you can't get yet. It's found where you initially cut through the vines the first time through this area, except there are a bunch of boulders blocking you from reaching it. What you have to do is, when you get to the Path, run down the hill, go to the River level, go all the way through that level, then zone in behind the rock pile blocking the way. Skip ahead to "Level ??: River" to see where in the sequence this happens. #2. Kill 20 Toxic Caterpillars The caterpillars don't start appearing until you're near the top of the hill, and the reason the body count is so high for this one is that the crickets in the ravine have been replaced by these things. Since they're much bigger targets than the crickets, you can easily stand above the ravine and throw rocks at them to kill enough caterpillars for this objective. #3. Get 2 treasures in the cave When you exit the large tree, head east. The secret area/cave will be right before the eastern-most alcove on the map and across from another alcove with two boxes in it. In here you'll find the sledgehammer and the pitchfork. Again, they spawn randomly. Good luck! ________________________________ Level 13: Swamp #1. Destroy 10 wooden boxes Like previous incarnations of this objective, missing one box means you won't complete it. 1. Found on a bit of land just off shore from the beginning of the level. Run northwest into the water and then swim northwest to find it. 2. At the first island with maggots on it, to the left of the ridge leading into the water. 3. At the first island with maggots on it, cross the bridge to the northwest to find another box. 4-5. From here, cross the log to the southwest to find a third box. Slightly obscured by the tall grass near it is another box. 6. Backtrack to the first island with maggots on it and run west into the water. Swim northwest to find another section of land with a box on it. 7. After reaching the second island with maggots on it, swim northwest. You'll find a box near a tree and a carnivorous plant. 8. From here, cross the log going east to find yet another box. 9. From the island with the cabin where you find the molotovs, swim all the way to the east, then swim south. You'll find another bit of land with a box and a plant on it. 10. From the first island with maggots on it, go west into the water. Go south and then all the way east so you cross under a bridge. Keep swimming to the southeast corner of the map until you hit land to find the last box. #2. Kill 20 Vampire Moths There aren't enough of the regular moths in this area to get the objective by normal means. The key to this goal is the moths on the nest you have to destroy to get back to the Path. If you just destroy the nest you won't get any credit for killing the moths, but if you kill the moths on the nest before destroying it you'll get credit for every one you take out. These moths in particular are weaker than the ones in the field, taking either two rocks or one handgun shot to kill. There are roughly 15 of them on the nest, so feel free to indulge in a little target practice with them. #3. Kill 8 Lizard Women Straight-forward enough. There are about 14 in the area and several of them will be in the water instead of on land. You can still kill them easily enough with rocks or the handgun. ________________________________ Level 14: Path #1. Kill 10 Flies To do this objective you have to go down the long, winding path. About halfway down you'll start to encounter flies, enough to complete this bonus. #2. Kill 30 Baby Spiders Just run down the path instead of heading to the bridge. All the ants that were in this area have been replaced by baby spiders, making this really asy to do. You'll kill about half of these just trying to reach the boss fight. #3. Kill Giant Spider in under 1min By this point you'll likely (hopefully) have some molotovs and grenades stocked up. Good, because that's the easiest way to get this bonus objective. Go into the fight with just molotovs and grenades equipped. This will make cycling between the two much simpler. After throwing a molotov at the spider nest to lure the giant spider onto the bridge, hit it with a molotov. This will keep it in place for a bit and allow you to pelt it with grenades. It will still jump eventually, but you can just roll out of the way of it, distance yourself slightly and keep tossing explosives at it. Just be wary of the baby spiders still on the bridge as they can jump up when you throw a molotov or grenade and the blast will damage you. It took me 3 molotovs and 10 grenades to kill the giant spider in roughly 43 seconds. ________________________________ Level ??: River Technically this counts as a secret area, though it's really just a side level now. It's the same thing, except you're doing the level backwards. #1. Get 10 oranges The first orange tree is south of the zone-in from the Path. It will be along the west border in between the spider cabin and the side path where the dead end full of maggots, boxes and carnivorous plants were/are. There will be an orange on the ground to help find it. The second is after crossing a log. It will be near a pile of red... stuff (?) with a bunch of maggots crawling around it. Again, there is an orange sitting next to this tree which makes it easy to spot. The last one is way back at the end (start?) of the level, off to the side of the zone-in for the Forest level. This is where you can go back to the Forest and pick up the last heart mushroom for that bonus objective, as well as some extra ammo, grenades and a molotov. #2. Kill 8 Toads Toads are found along the path while making your way to the end (beginning?) of the River level. If need be, you can find a couple of them in the woods beyond the map boundaries. Just shoot them or huck rocks at them until they die. #3. Kill 100 Maggots There are a few key places where maggots can be found to complete this objective. One is the dead end I mentioned which occurs neat the spider-infested cabin. Another place they can be found is any of the red mounds along the path. The best place to find them though is at the beginning of the level where there will be dozens upon dozens of them crawling around. ________________________________ Level 15: Hillside #1. Get 10 Ant Bombs Collecting ant bombs here can be a pain for one particular reason. There are no places you can put down honey to lure in the ants. As such, you'll be relying on using rocks or the insecticide to kill the ants as they charge at you. There are two places ant bombs can be collected. The first is in the area where you fight the giant sand worm. There are three ant colonies here with each having a couple ants milling around. When you finish the boss fight (assuming you do the cliff strategy for the third bonus objective) you'll spawn just out of aggro range of three of them, so this can be a decent area to get those last few bombs. The second area is the secret cave to the west of the cabin at level's entrance. Each time you run through this area at least three ants will spawn in a random spot in the cave, and it can be replayed as many times as needed. Usually they'll appear during long straight sections, but sometimes they are right around a corner. Just try to keep the insecticide ready and use first-person mode while running through these sections to better spot the ants from a distance. #2. Get 2 treasures in the cave The cave to the west of the entrance will have a white pendant and a spiked club spawn in it at random. I can't confirm it, but the spiked club in particular seems to have a low chance of spawning. I had to run the cave eight times to get both the pendant and the club. #3. Hurl Giant Worm off cliff At this boss fight, one of the first things you'll see is a pan of the area, showing three ant colonies. In particular, it will show one colony way at the back of the map where the cliff is. Notice the crack in the ground where this ant colony is positioned? Well... Something I like to do at the beginning of this fight is try running back into the barn. This will cause the worm to pop up and block your path. Now when you make a run for the ant colony the worm will be behind you, so it'll be less likely it'll hit you with its one-hit kill move. Anyway, run to the ant colony at the back (which has no ants within 20 feet of it for whatever reason) and stand behind it so that the crack in the ground is between you and the worm. When the worm starts coming toward you, get away from the colony. When the worm surfaces, hit the ant colony with whatever weapon you want to blow it up. This will also blow up the section of land while the worm is on it and throw the worm over the edge of the cliff. I chose to use a couple ant bombs since I'd be picking up more of them anyway. ________________________________ Level 16: Cave to the Peak #1.Get 1 Heart Mushroom If you look along the path leading to the exit, there's a small dead-end outlet on the section heading north. Keep your light off and head to the end of it to find the heart mushroom. #2. Kill 5 Canine Men By this point the canine men are much easier to kill thanks to the lance. With it and a little decent timing you can hit the canine men as they charge at you, then land another three shots to knock them over for a kill shot. Barring that you can just shoot them a few times with either the handgun or shotgun. #3. Kill 5 Lizard Women See what I wrote for the canine men objective. This is a bit trickier though, as you'll have to time the attacks with the lance so you only hit the lizard woman once or twice, then do the step back dodge and attack again. If you don't they'll simply charge forward and grab/swipe at you. The traditional sand bag strategy still applies too, as you'll likely have several dozen of them by this point. ________________________________ Level 17: Temple #1. Destroy 20 wooden boxes Unlike other box-related objectives, there's a lot of leeway with this one. There are a total of 26 boxes in this area, so you can ignore some areas entirely and still complete this objective. -4 boxes can be found sitting next tot he mantis nest. -1 is next to the rock pile along the west wall in the same area. -2 more are along the east wall, further from the nest. -1 is to the left of the double-doors leading to the room where the lance was found. -2 are in the lance room along the east wall. -3 more are sitting in front of the tomb to the right of the altar in the same room. -2 boxes are positioned next to the swarm at the end of the hallway where Michelle is found. Just keep the light off and you'll be fine when going after these. -6 are in the northwest corner of the huge clearing where you fight the giant gorilla. -1 is under the statue to the west. -1 is next to the tree in the southwest corner. -2 are next to the tree in the southeast corner. -1 is along the east wall, near the entrance to the Cave of Time. #2. Kill 30 Praying Mantises To the left of the temple steps are a bunch of mantises and, at the back of this clearing, a mantis nest. If you clear out the initial mantises and destroy the nest, you won't have enough kills to get the bonus objective. Instead, clear out the mantises and then wait under the nest, killing the mantises as they spawn until you complete the objective. #3. Kill Giant Gorilla in 30sec This gets my vote for "Most Ridiculous Way to Kill a Boss." The game actually hints at doing this in one of the journal entries where it mentions the big statue that looks unstable, but here's how to not only kill the gorilla in under 30 seconds, but do so while only using one grenade. Have the grenades equipped before the fight starts. As soon as it does, run underneath the pillars holding up the statue. A short in-fight cutscene will play showing the statue on top of the pillars. When you gain control again stand under the statue. The gorilla will move to the center of the map and try to throw rocks at you. If you hit it in the face with a grenade from here you'll trigger the end cutscene, in which the gorilla teleports next to the statue and knocks it over like the first time around. This entire process takes around 25 seconds including the time for the mini-cutscene to play and is far easier (and somehow a lot dumber) than trying to fight the gorilla head-on. ________________________________ Level 18: Cave of Time Here's the thing about the bonus objectives in this level. You'll end up having to try and get all three of them at once during the boss fight. Maggots don't appear anywhere else and there aren't anywhere near enough flies on the way to the boss to get the bonus objective. As such, I'll just list all the bonuses and then give a strategy for all of them, instead of going one-by-one. #1. Kill 20 Flies #2. Kill 20 Maggots #3. Kill Beelzebub under 2min Before the fight, be sure to equip the lance and the handgun. By this point you should have at least 100 bullets, which will be more than enough for this fight. When the fight starts, focus on getting the flies first. Not only will they come to you, making them really easy to hit first, they can also end up holding you in place for Beelzebub to hit you, so get these out of the way. Once you get that objective, run around and stomp on as many maggots as you can find, or just shoot them until the second objective is finished. Now for Beelzebub. By this point in the fight you've probably noticed his two attacks; one close-range attack where he whips his giant tendril at you and a long-range attack where he causes rocks to fall on you. The latter attack is why you want to kill the flies first. Anyway, once the second objective is completed, put some distance between you and Beelzebub (and avoid most of the flies that spawn getting in your face again) and whip out the handgun. Take aim at its head and fire away. Beelzebub will reel back in pain on the first shot, then on every five or six shots after that. This acts as a sort of "stun lock" that prevents Beelzebub from being able to attack you. At all. Even if you have to reload, Beelzebub's attacks are slow enough that you can reload, take aim and continue shooting it. It'll take about 48 shots to the head before Beelzebub dies. With this strategy I was able to kill Beelzebub in about 1 minute 49 seconds, and that was with getting hit by Beelzebub's tendril attack, getting stopped by the flies a couple times and having maggots nipping at my feet while trying to shoot it. And there you have it, 57 bonus objectives and how to complete every one of them. ==================== IV.
