Point your browser to http://www.nationstates.net/. And browse around the site to get a feel for what the game consists of. NationStates at heart is a simulation game. A player creates their own nation and watches it change through the decisions they make every day. Decision the player makes affects a variety of things including their rank. A nation consists of 4 main parts: civil liberties ranking, economy rank, political freedom rank and a population. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -- Creating a Nation -------------------------------------------------------- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Click on the green "CREATE A NATION" link on the left. This will take you to a second form where you will have to fill in information about your country. + Name: The name of your country AND your login name. I wouldn't put a large name in if you don't want to have to type it to login every time. This cannot be changed later. + National Flag: Choose a nation flag. Don't worry, you can change this later as well as uploading a flag of your own. + Government Style: Your choice of government style determines what your starting ranks will be. *note* These rankings are modified by the political questions you answer afterwards. Ignore those questions if you want to start with in one of these categories. Sensible: UN Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy Civil Rights: Good Economy: Good Political Freedoms: Good Liberal: UN Category: Scandinavian Liberal Paradise Civil Rights: Superb Economy: Developing Political Freedoms: Good Conservative: UN Category: Free-Market Paradise Civil Rights: Few Economy: Very Strong Political Freedoms: Superb Compassionate: UN Category: Tyranny by Majority Civil Rights: Few Economy: Developing Political Freedoms: Superb Oppressive: UN Category: Psychotic Dictatorship Civil Rights: Few Economy: Developing Political Freedoms: Few Corrupt: UN Category: Psychotic Dictatorship Civil Rights: Rare Economy: Weak Political Freedoms: Unheard Of Anarchaic: UN Category: Anarchy Civil Rights: World Benchmark Economy: Thriving Political Freedoms: World Benchmark Libertarian: UN Category: Anarchy Civil Rights: Frightening Economy: Strong Political Freedoms: Corrupted Evil: UN Category: Psychotic Dictatorship Civil Rights: Outlawed Economy: Imploded Political Freedoms: Outlawed Psychotic: UN Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy Civil Rights: Good Economy: Good Political Freedoms: Good + National Currency: Seems to be merely a cosmetic thing and it is changeable later. + National Animal: See above. + National Motto: See above two. After filling out the form you will be directed to another form that asks you several political questions. These will determine your UN Category as well as your starting ranks. Submit that form and you have your nation! You start out with a population of 5 million and live in a random region. Changing Regions ---------------- If you are not happy with your region you have the option of joining other regions. To move regions click on "THE WORLD" and search for the region you want to join. Once on the region page click the "Move *nation* to *region*" link. *note* Some regions require a password to join. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -- Government Priorities ---------------------------------------------------- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Each nation's government has a set of priorities that are affected by the choices you make. Though some of this information appears in your countries description, I suggest you use NS Economy (in the other resources section) to get a better look. Here are the possible priorities. Commerce Defense Education The Environment Healthcare Law & Order Public Transport Religion & Spirituality Social Equality Social Welfare =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -- Industries --------------------------------------------------------------- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In each nation description it mentions the major industry of the nations you are looking at. The possibilities are as follows: Arms Manufacturing Automobile Manufacturing Basket Weaving Beef-based Agriculture Book Publishing Cheese Exports Door-to-door Insurance Sales Furniture Restoration Gambling Information Technology (IT) Pizza Delivery Retail Soda Trout Fishing Uranium Mining Woodchipping =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= -- Issues ------------------------------------------------------------------- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Issues are really the core of the NationStates game. They affect nearly everything about your nation except population. In general, whichever issue you choose has the possibility to: Change your ranking in one or more areas. Change your United Nations category. Modify your nation's description in a variety of ways. Without messing with settings, you get an issue once per day. Each issue in general has a title, a description and 3 to 4 choices. If you dismiss an issue, it will have NO effect on your country. Finally, the issues you can get are determined by your country. For example, if your country is already democratic you will not receive issues that might introduce democracy into your country. Issues here are organized alphabetically by their title. Note that text such as *name* is replaced with information specific to your country. As of the last editing of the FAQ there were 166 issues. *note* Some of these issues may be slightly offensive and occasionally use an expletive. #0: Should Democracy be Compulsory? #1: Where's the Love Gone? #2: Reclaim the Streets! #3: Harry Potter Censorship Row #4: Economic Collapse Looms! #5: Child Casino Shock #6: Appointment of Spiritual Advisor #7: Animal Liberation Front Strikes Again #8: Nudists Demand Time in Sun #9: *animal*s on the Dinner Table? #10: Social Inequality Reaching Embarrassing Levels #11: People Request Not So Much Dictatorship, If That's All Right #12: Death Penalty on Agenda #13: Too Much Yakking, Already, Say Delegation #14: Military Demands Increased Spending #15: More Police Needed #16: *industry* Workers Strike! #17: Corporations Demand Political Say #18: Citizens Struggle Under "Unfair" Tax Burden #19: *nation* Awash With Red-Rimmed Eyes #20: Gunman Kills Three #21: Police Consider "Big Brother" Anti-Crime System #22: Nazi Sympathizers Plan Rally #23: Uranium Deposit Promises To Enrich *nation* #24: Budget Time: Accountants Excited #25: Cloning Research Promises New Breakthrough #26: Compulsory Organ Harvesting Proposed #27: Cash for Colons? #28: Cancer Sufferer Demands Euthanasia Bill #29: Minorities Demand Representation in TV Soaps #30: Auto Industry Struggles Against Foreign Imports #31: Get Efficient, Private Sector Tells Nature #32: One Wife is Never Enough, Say Polygamists #33: Genetics Brings New Life to Extinct Species #34: Don't Puff On Me, Say Non-Smokers #35: Refugees Want To Call *nation*Home #36: International Community Comes Doorknocking #37: Traffic Cops Needed on Information Superhighway? #38: *nation* Looks to the Stars #39: Scandal Rocks *nation*'s Government! #40: Hukd on Fonix Workd 4 Me! #41: Software Giant Stomps on Competition #42: Turn Down That Racket, Say Morality Police #43: Prisoners Demand Elbow Room #44: No Pain, No Gain! #45: Baseball League Steps Up To The Plate #46: Jennifer Government Censorship Row #47: The Great Wall of *nation*? #48: Give Us Healthcare or Give Us Death! #49: Diving For *currency*s #50: Whips, Chains, and Leather, oh my! #51: Streaker in Snooker Game Fiasco #52: Is it Art or is it Porn? #53: Orbital Armageddon? #54: Time to Put the Older Senators Out to Pasture? #55: Bigtopian Protesters Cry For Full Integration #56: "Give Us Money!"
