Version History NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 1.0 Start date-End date: 7/25/02-7/27/02: First copy. Got quite a lot done, don't you think? 2.0 7/30/02: I updated some minor stuff and one big update. Small Updates: *Clarified Faerie quests* *Fixed total number of colors* *Made an unimportant update to the Thanks section* Big Updates: *Added sections for the three game categories* 3.0 7/31/02: Small Updates: *Revised some of the sections so the grammar check would stop bugging me* Big Updates *Added Meridell to the Explore section* NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 2. Introduction NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN This is a wonderful site in my opinion. Neopets might be described as a very unique virtual pet game. Adam Powell, the creator of Neopets, thought up of Neopets in February 1998 (according to the About Us page on Neopets). Neopets was launched in November 1999 (No, back then I never heard of it). That's about 2 years and 7 months as of July 25, 2002. Since then the site has collected over 35 million signups. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 3. The First Steps (Getting Started) NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN The first thing to do is simple, sign up. After picking out your username, age and so on (since there are over 35 million players, it might take a wile to pick out a username). After that you can pick out your first Neopet. First you pick specie, such as Chomby, Blumaroo, Ixi, ECT. There are 46 Neopets in all. NOTE: some Neopets are listed as "limited edition" or "reserved". Limited edition means there are a set number of Neopets of that kind and reserved means there is a special way of getting them. After you choose specie, then you choose name, gender, color, and personality. NOTE: picking a name for your Neopet is a lot harder then I sounds. A name can only be used once, so with over 50 million Neopets running around (so to speak), it can be quite a challenge to pick out a name. Letters, numbers, and underscores (the _ character) are allowed. You can have up to 4 Neopets, but it's best to start out with just one. When you get your pet, you will receive some money called neopoints, or NP for short. I believe you start out with 200 NP and get 50 NP for creating a pet. So you should have 250 NP. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 4. Welcome...to Neopets! NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Now that you got your pet and some NP, everything is open to you! Well, almost everything. If you want to do some stuff, you'll have to wait a while. For example, you have to wait about 2 days before you can use the Wheel of Excitement. Do what you want! Post a message on the message board. Play a game. Sing up with a sponsor (Detailed later in the World section). The possibilities are somewhat huge. And here's another plus, with the exception of most of the games and maybe some of the links to sponsors, there is absolutely no pop-ups! Isn't that great? NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 5. Important information NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN For your convenience, herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre's common stuff! Battledome: A place where two humans can fight with their Neopets for 2P battles and your Neopet vs. something you unlock such as the Brain Tree or the Jelly Chia by visiting a certain page for 1P battle. Faerie Quest: Unlike other quests, a faerie quest is random and one stat for one of one your pets will increase when you complete the quest. Depending on which faerie asks you to do the quest, a certain stat will be raised. Gourmet Food: If a food has a rarity index of 90-100, it's a gourmet food and when your pet eats it, it'll get 1 gourmet point. If it eats enough different gourmet foods, your pet will win a trophy. Lab Ray: If you collect all nine Secret Laboratory Map pieces, you are given entry to the Lab Ray assessable through the puzzle game called Treasure Maps. The lab ray has the ability to raise/lower a stat of one of your pets up to five points; change your pets color/specie, or gender. Neopets Merchandise: Neopets has some stickers, toys and such at "Limited Too" and "Claire's" stores. Neopia: The planet you see when you click on Explore. Paint Brush: If you get a hold on a Paint Brush, you can change your pets' color. There are 32 different colors in all as of 7/27/02. You'll need a special Paint Brush if you want to change your pets' Petpet color. Petpet: A pet for your pet. Weird concept, isn't it? >:| Quest: When you're asked to fetch an/some item(s) for someone/something like the Snow Faerie. Rare Item Code: If you buy certain merchandise, you'll get a rare item code you can cash in for a rare item on Neopets. User shops: Users can create their own shop and sell their items for some NP. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6. Yellow Toolbar NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN You'll be using the Yellow Toolbar a lot. Without it, it would be very hard to get where you want to go to in just a couple mouse clicks. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.1 Pet Central NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Pet Central is pretty useful. It has a link to your inventory, link to the list of all the trophies you have won, link to the Pound and a lot more. It can be pretty useful, but I've gotten by without using it a lot. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.2 Create a pet NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Over here is where you, obviously, create a new pet. The process over here is the same when you first singed up except for the get a username process. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.3 Neomail NNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Neomail is like e-mail only you can only send to other Neopets users, and there isn't any @whatever.blank. This is also where you set up your block list, send neomails, and write in a calendar/planner thingy they call a diary. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.4 World NNNNNNNNNNNNN In the World section has some pretty interesting links that should be checked out. It contains a list of upcoming features, a calendar of events for the year, The Gallery of Evil; which is a list of various evil creatures you might encounter, and most importantly, a list of sponsors. The list of the sponsors is very important. If you sign up for a sponsor, you help keep Neopets free for everyone and you get NP out of it too. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5 Explore NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Explore shows you the map of Neopia. It contains several different areas, called worlds, each with its own theme. Such as pirate or prehistoric themes. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.1 Faerieland NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Faerieland is where all the faeries live. Here you'll find The Wheel of Excitement, the Healing Springs, the Poogle Races, Jhudoras Cloud, Faerie Cloud Racers, some other stuff, and an entrance to the city. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.1.1 Faerie City NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Faerie City is an extension of Faerieland. It is home to the infamous Hidden Tower, home of some of the most powerful Battledome items. You'll also find the Employment Agency, a good way to make NP. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.2 Haunted Woods NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN The Haunted Woods has 3 quest areas, the Witches tower (Edna's quest), the Esophagor quest, and the Brain Tree quest. All these quest a linked. The Brain Tree wants information that the Esophagor knows and the Esophagor will only cough it up if you feed him food from the Witches quest. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.3 Krawk Island NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN When going to Krawk Island, you wont need NP. They only take Dubloons on Krawk Island. You can buy dubloons from users shops. Krawk Island also has an academy for increasing your Neopets stats for the Battledome. Krawk Island also holds a secret for one of the restricted pets. Can you figure it out? NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.4 Lost Desert NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN The lost desert has some very fun card games you can try out for NP. You can find the Fruit Machine in the lower right-hand corner. The game costs nothing to play witch is a little unusual because the game is pure chance and games of chance cost NP. It's basically a game of slots but you can only play once a day. You'll also find Coltzan's Shrine. This is a good place for getting NP or some free training. Like the Fruit Machine it is a game of chance and free. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM 6.5.6 Meridell MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM This is the latest world to come on to Neopets. According to the news page, when the content is done being put up, it will have three or four pages like Tyrannia and Faerieland. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.5 Mystery Island NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Mystery Island is home to the very famous Tombola. It's exactly like the Fruit Machine except your guaranteed a prize every time you play, even if the prize is bad. The Cooking Pot is where you mix two or three items and get a brand new one! For example: Basic Dryer + Bubble Blower= Bubble Blaster. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.6 Terror Mountain NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN A world divided in three parts NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.6.1 Happy Valley NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Happy Valley will be most helpful in December, when the Advent Calendar opens up. The Snow Wars game in the center is the same as Battleship, You pay 25 NP and if you win you get a magical snowball to use in the Battledome. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.6.2 Ice Caves NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN This place is the home of the Snowager. If you can catch the Snowager sleeping, you can take a chance and try to get a free item. However, if the Snowager catches you, there is a high chance it will hurt your Neopets(s). NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.6.3 Mountain top NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN The Mountaintop has some interesting areas to visit. The Garage Sale sells random items such as food, Petpet, bottled faeries ect. The Snow Faeries quest is very good. She can give you rare items such as neggs or gourmet foods and 1000 NP or so all you have to get her is some items like the Witches quest from the Haunted Woods. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.7 Tyrannia NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN It's just another world in several parts. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.7.1 Tyrannian Jungle NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN There is nothing all that special here. A game of Hi-Lo is available. Other than that it's nothing special about this place. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.7.2 Tyrannian Plateau NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN This place has some more interesting stuff than the jungle. There's the Giant Omelette where you can get a piece of omelette that can be used three times. There is a game of checkers that is played with two humans over the Internet. You can also sign up for a checkers competition and win some NP and a trophy. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.5.8 Virtupets Space Station NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN If you bought Neopets merchandise from a store like "Limited Too" and got a rare item code, you can cash it in for a rare item at the Grundo Warehouse. Here is where you can also get a Grundo of your own. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNN 6.6 Chat NNNNNNNNNN It's your basic message board. It has a role-playing board, a Battledome board, a general chat board, and as well as several others. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNN 6.7 Games NNNNNNNNNNNN The games fall into three categories. Puzzle, Action, and Luck/Chance. I plan to get some strategies for the game out some time soon. 'Till then you'll just have to make do. Help for a game would be greatly appreciated on how I should set up the game guides. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.7.1 Puzzle NNNNNNNNNNNNNN Not much I can describe about them. Twelve of them don't cost any thing, five costs NP, and two require you to purchase items to win. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.7.2 Action NNNNNNNNNNNNNN All but one of the games here cost NP to play (Pyramids costs 50 NP to play). With the exception of Pyramids, all the games require the latest version of a plug-in. If you don't have it, don't worry. When you bring up the game, the pop-up window will give you a link to the site instead of the game. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN 6.7.3 Luck/Chance NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Most games here cost NP to play. Some, like the Wheel of Excitement, cost a set amount of NP to play. While others, like JubJub Blackjack, allow you to decide how much you want to risk. Because they are games of luck, there is no strategy I can give you for these games. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNN 6.8 Shops NNNNNNNNNNNN Where you can buy items such as food, books, toys, weapons & armor for the Battledome, and some more. You'll find the Auction House where you can place a bid on an item. It also has a link to your inventory (the shops link, not the Auction House). But let's not forget the Rainbow Pool, where you can paint your pet or your pets' Petpet. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNN 6.9 News NNNNNNNNNNN Here is where you'll find the latest news on what is going on in Neopets such as special merchandise being sold, new items, and the like. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNN 6.10 Help NNNNNNNNNNNN If your having problems with something, this should be the first place to turn too. You'll also set up your preferences and change your password here. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNN 7.
