I'm so happy that I finally get to write a guide in GameFAQS. GameFAQS and many FAQ writers have helped me a lot with games that I played. Now, it's my turn to return the favor to them. ^^ So, this is the first guide I ever write on GameFAQS. Please forgive me if there are wrong informations or offensive words that I accidentally wrote in here. If there are such writings, I can assure you it was not deliberate. I hope you can understand. This FAQ is made to guide you through the whole gameplay of Plants VS Zombies Adventures. The reason why I decided to write this is because (1) This game is not as simple and easy as it looks and there might be people who have some difficulties playing through it, (2) This game is newly published (at least when I wrote this), and (3) I am a fan of Plants VS Zombies (Oh, I know you are, too). Enjoy! #=============================================================================# # WALKTHROUGH # # [WKT] # #=============================================================================# Welcome to the world of Plants VS Zombies Adventures! This is another series of the once-superbly-popular Plants VS Zombies for PC, and this time it's on facebook! I know fans of the previous series must have been waiting to play this one. Well, don't expect it to be the same as the old PVZ because it actually has a totally different concept. Well, not everything is different so don't be disappointed yet. You can still play with your old peashooter and blow up some zombies with cherry bomb. Anyway, I will try to explain the basics of this game. First of all, you got a town for starting this game! Yeay, congratulations! Well, it is still kind of empty but, we will make it more alive later. So, in your town, you have a house, some pathways leading to your house, some square plant pots, and some decorations here and there. We'll go through them one by one. Your house is a coin producing machine. It will generate coins until its capacity is full. To get the coins, simply click the house and click get coins. Coins are used to buy and plant your peashooters, sunflowers, and other plants. The plant pot is the place you grow your plants. In this game, to get a plant you have to grow it on a plant pot using coins, and pick it up later when it's fully grown. The pathway leading to your house is a way for zombies to walk. WHY the hell would you place a pathway for zombies to walk??!! Well, it's not actually for zombies. When you have a house, you have to connect it to a road for it to be able to produce coins. Don't ask me why, as it's a part of the game. Also, the road has to connect to the outside of your field. That way, zombies can get in and try to approach your house. Later, you can place some plants on the field to protect your house from zombies. For more informations, see the section -Organize Your Town- [OYT]. And the last things are decorations. They are... well, decorations to beautify your garden. There's no real use of them except for some special decorations. If you see a storage room (or shed) beside your house and hover your cursor above it, you can see the information about it. It's actually a coin production booster which increases the production rate of your house by some numbers. Not too much, really. But, it's always good to have things like that. To use it, just put it beside your house. Actually, it has an effectiva area where the effect will influence your house. So, don't put it too far away from your house. There are other special decorations like this, but we'll get to it later. So, are you ready to whack some zombies? Let's get started, then. When you first started the game, there is some tutorial about planting seeds and collecting them. Then, you are told to go the road trip. This is where the zombie-whacking begin. +--------------------------------------------------------------+ The Boonies [WKT01] +--------------------------------------------------------------+ This is the first and the easiest area that you will visit. There are only 5 levels in this area as it is supposed to be a tutorial area. Level 1: Simply follow the tutorial and you'll win easily. The first stage is so easy that you can't ever lose. I'm pretty sure you can win with only one peashooter if the tutorial allows (but it doesn't, so you have to place at least 2 peas). Try to place your plant like this picture below -> * * * * -> = zombies direction * * = paths P * P = peashooter * to cover the most area you can cover until the zombies get to your plant. After you win, you'll get some zombucks and exp points along with some achievements and secret achievements. More details in -Achievements- [ACV]. Also, you get sunflower seeds for winning the first level! Now you can place some sunflowers to get some... uh, sun. Level 2: It's another tutorial level which is also an easy one. At first, you have to put a sunflower. You get an advice to put at least 2 on every level. Well, not on this level, though. It's a waste to put 2 on this level. I won only using 1 sunflower and 1 peashooter, although I had to trigger both of the lawn mowers in the last wave. It doesn't matter, really because you don't get extra money from keeping those mowers. It's better to save some plants for future levels. But if you're afraid of things going wrong, 2 peas should be enough to beat this level. Level 3: Now, it's time to get the Fog-a-Majig Crazy Dave has been looking for. You can actually go back home first to plant some more peas and suns if you're low on those. When you're ready, go to the third level. The pathway on this level is similar to that on Level 1, although there are 2 of them now. So, simply place 1 pea on each pathway like in Level 1 and place a sun if you think you need it. The sun you collect can also be used to stun a zombie or power up your plant. Simply click on the zombie or the plant you want to stun/boost. You can also revive a fainted plant using the same method. They cost 25 sun per use, so don't overuse them. You get the Fog-a-Majig for finishing the level. It's actually used to reclaim the Plantagon Lot so that your town gets bigger. You also need 75 coins to reclaim it. Reclaim it now! Plantagon Lot: I won this one with only a pea and a sun, with the help of Plant Perk, ZombiFreeze, and those lawnmowers. Again, place another pea if you're afraid things go wrong. You get another plant for reclaiming the lot. And it's a new kind of plant! It is the first plant we get which wasn't in the PC version of PVZ. Kinda exciting, huh? Now, this plant called Aspearagus is a plant with long attack range, but is very slow. I'll refer to it as spear later on. You get a new lot and 2 new buildings on the new lot. The first building is a small house which is similar to your old house. It produces coins to grow plants. The second one is a Plantagon and it produce lawnmowers instead of coins. Those lawnmowers it produces work as a tool to help you replenish your used lawnmowers when fighting zombies. But, you can only have 5 of them at maximum and they don't come often, so don't use them unless you need them. Start repairing your new buildings to get them working. If you are following the sidequest until now, you might have got a quest to defend your town from zombies. Yes, zombies can sneak into your town and try to eat your brainz. So, put some peas to defend your town and watch the zombies trying to attack your town. It's easier than most of the road trip levels, so don't be afraid. If you happen to lose, though, it won't be game over for you. You just need to repair the building that those zombies got in. For a simple guide to build a good defense in your town, see the section -Organize Your Town- [OYT]. Don't forget to plant some more plants to restock your used ones. Also, you can build another building to produce coins faster. Try to build a summer home and connect it to a road to get it working. Level 4: Now, things get a bit challenging. It's still easy, though, so don't worry. Like before, put a sun and a pea on each side of the pathway. You can put another pea in the middle, or perhaps a spear if you want to see your newly acquired plant shoots some zombies. I'm sure you can win with only 2 peas, but it's up to you. Again, try to place your plant so it covers the most area until the zombies can get to it. Level 5: This is the last level of The Boonies area! The layout here is a bit different from the previous levels. There is an intersection between 2 paths here, which could be a good news or a bad news depending how you place your plants. The good news is, you can position your plant so it will attack both of the paths efficiently. The bad news is, if you place your plant in a wrong place, your plant could get bitten by zombies from 2 direction. So, look at the picture here. | V * * -> * * * * * * * -> = zombies direction * X P * * = paths * P * P = peashooter * A * A = aspearagus * * * * * * X = dangerous tile * Try to place your plants like the picture above. Each peashooter can only be attacked from one direction, but can attack 2 paths. Do not put a plant on X because it could be attacked from both directions. Also, if you need it, place another spear on the back so it could help attacking from behind. You get another plant for winning, and it's Wall-nut! It's kind of nostalgic seeing this one, I don't know why. Okay, so, you also get a letter from the zombies (can zombies write anyway?). Well, you know that Burt got kidnapped and you have to rescue him (why haven't they eaten his brain yet? even went so far to kidnap him.. sigh..) on the new area. So, let's get to it. +--------------------------------------------------------------+ Dire Spires [WKT02] +--------------------------------------------------------------+ In this new area, there are more levels than the previous area (7 levels) and the zombies here are a bit more annoying. There comes an appearance of a new type of zombie, the Barrel Zombie. It has a bit more health than the Conehead and when its barrel is destroyed, it walk a lot faster! This could be a problem later so, don't underestimate it. Also if you noticed, there is a new building from the plantagon lot which is a Plantagon! This building produces lawnmower instead of money. Those lawnmowers will help you when you, for example, already triggered a lawnmower in a road trip level, but there are still zombies left that are ready to ruin your game. Well, that's when you should activate your bonus lawnmower and it will replace all the used mowers with shiny new ones which are ready to crush more zombies. It's really helpful in a tight situation so use it wisely. Level 1: So, in this first level, you got 2 free Wall-nuts to begin with! That's a lot help considering there is a new annoying zombie to fight. As you can see, Wall-nut is a great way to hinder zombies from advancing forward and it works better for Barrel Zombies because it stops them from running. For this level, I suggest putting your plants like this picture. | V * -> = zombies direction * 1 2 W = wall-nut W * * * 3 3 * * * The best way to put your plant is on number 2. The reason is because the plant will cover the most area before zombies get to the wall-nut. Placing your plant on number 1 is also okay because zombies will always eat wall-nut first before attacking other plants. Just try to keep your wall alive and your plant will be okay. Don't place your plant on number 3. It can only attack zombies that is in front of your wall. That way, your wall will be destroyed faster. Level 2: In this level, you don't get free Wall-nut anymore. I hope you've planted some so you can use them here. So, there are 3 pathways in this level. The first one is a straight path alone and the rest 2 paths intersect each other. For the first one, it's simple. Just place 2 peas and you'll mostly be fine. For the other paths, it's a bit tricky. Wall-nut will be great if placed on an intersection like this. But, this level actually doesn't need any wall-nut to win. Wall-nuts are 4 times more expensives than peas (in coins). And you can win using only 4 peas, instead of using 1 wall-nut + some peas. Here is a picture of my level 2 that I won using only 4 peas. http://oi41.tinypic.com/2ryqdma.jpg Also, you might have to use some ZF (ZombiFreeze) on some zombies if you're using my layout. But if you insist on using a wall-nut on this level, feel free to use it. Place it on the intersection and it will work just fine. After winning this level, you will be told to send some zombies to your friend, which is Crazy Dave in my case. So, what are you waiting for? Visit Crazy Dave right now! Stupidly, he'll also give you 500 bucks to attack his own town. Well, that's Crazy Dave for you. Anyway, Dave has a house where there is only 1 pea guarding it. Send your zombies there and you'll definitely win. You get coins for winning. You can also boost your zombies' speed or stun Dave's plants using 15 bucks. Well, it is fun to send zombies, especially to your friend's house. But, don't do it too much since it will consume your bucks a lot faster with less coins to get. Level 3: Well, this level is a bit confusing. You have 4 paths to take care on, each having intersections with other paths. Try to put your peas like in level 1-5 so that they will not be attacked from 2 directions. Also, you might have to place 1 or 2 wall-nut on intersections because this level is a bit harder than before. I'd say around 3 peas, 1 or 2 spears, and 1 or 2 walls would be fine to finish this level. You get your first VIP plant after winning this level. Welcome your new Beeshooters! They are just like the peas, but with larger area of attack and bee bullets instead of pea. Unfortunately, these plants are only obtainable through buying it using gems, which costs real money. I would not suggest on using them in road trip levels. Instead you can use them in your town if you'd like since the plants in your town don't disappear. Level 4: This level is easier than before. Just put 1 wall-nut at the back intersection and place your peas/spears around that wall. The wall will do a good job on stopping the zombies. Level 5: This level is a bit tricky. You might think that it's probably better to place peas in the middle so the can handle both paths. Actually, that's not. It's better to place a pea on each paths so that the peas will only focus on their lane. If you want to attack both paths, use spears instead. Placing them at the back would be good. Level 6: This level is where your peas shine! You don't need spears here. Just place 2 peas on each path like this and you'll win this level easily. * * * * <- * -> = zombies direction * P P * * * * Also you might have to freeze some barrel zombies who got naked so that they won't get to your lawnmowers. Level 7: This level is not that hard for being the last level in this area. There are a lot of options here. You can use wall-nut to block the intersections and the pair of straight paths (zombies will bite the wall-nut on either path), or you can use spears to take car of both paths. My favorite is to just use 4 peas, 2 on the straight paths, and 2 on the intersected paths. That is enough to survive this level. Now you get Burt back, and he told you to reclaim his workshop. Don't worry, it will be yours soon. So, get back to the town and reclaim the workshop lot. You'll need some coins to do it. The rule is the same, prevent zombies from getting to your house (or Burt's workshop). Place some peas and (maybe) some spears and you'll win it. Once the wave ends, the lot is yours. Also, you get the cherry plants! This is a good addition since this cherry bomb can really help a lot later. Don't forget to plant some as soon as you get it. If you look closer, there are 2 new plant pots to use in workshop lot. Now you can grow more plants, congrats. Also, there is a new building which is a workshop. This workshop produces Zombie Zapper instead of coins, just like the plantagon. The Zombie Zapper will freeze all zombies for 10 seconds when used. In my opinion, the mowers are more useful than these Zombie Zappers. But anyway, it's still a good addition for your game. To go to the next area, You have to click on the police car. He will tell you that to pass through, you need to ask some friends to help you or pay some bucks to replace it. If you have some friends playing this, I suggest asking them for their help since you'll need those bucks soon. Once you're done, go to Cadaver Cavern. +--------------------------------------------------------------+ Cadaver Cavern [WKT03] +--------------------------------------------------------------+ The number of levels on each area gradually increases and now you've got 10 levels to go through. Since you already got the cherry bomb, you'll be faced with your old-tough-enemy, the buckethead zombie. As you might have known from the previous game, Buckethead zombie is one of the toughest zombies and it's really hard to beat it with just peas. Well, don't worry, they are not that bad. You've got the new cherry bomb, too. So, bring it on! Level 1: The first level is a bit tricky. It can be finished with only 4 peas, but do not put a pea where it can be attacked from both paths. This is my plan for this level. | | V V * * * * * * -> = zombies direction * * P = peashooters P * P * * * * * * * * * * P * P * * * * * * * * Well, the picture kinda sucks but.. Anyway, that's my layout that I used to beat this level. You have to use ZF a couple of times to those barrel and buckethead zombies and revive your dead plant but, at least it worked. Level 2: I beat this one using 4 peas again. So, the layout is like this. | | | V V V * * * P * * * P -> = zombies direction * * * * * P = peashooters * X * X * X = don't put it here * P * P * * * * The trick is about the corner of paths. You can put your plant at the corner of the path, so it doesn't necessarily need to touch the path. But, zombies can also attack the plant at the corner, that's why you shouldn't place it on X. Again, use some ZF and PP (Plant Perk) if you need, and you might have to revive some peas. Level 3: Again, this one only needs 4 peas. This one is not a really hard level, so I'll leave the positioning up to you. Just remember not to place a pea at a place which can be attacked from both paths. Level 4: Well, another 4-peas level for me. For this level, I think it's probably okay to put some peas in the middle since there aren't much space anyway. But, you can put 2 at the inside of the curve, and 2 at the outside of the curve. For winning this level, you got the next VIP Plant, Power Flower. This one functions just like sunflowers, but producing 3 suns at a time. Cool, huh? Too bad you need gems to get them... Level 5: This level is a difficult one if you're careless. I also haven't got the best plan for this level, but I still managed to win with 4 peas. Don't put the peas in the middle where it can be attacked from 4 sides. Instead place them so they will take care of 2 paths each. You have to use a lot of ZF for this one, so be prepared. Level 6: This level has a similar layout like in level 1, but with some obstacles which prevent us to use the same strategy. Simply place your peas beside the ones with obstacles. It will be a bit disadvantageous tou you, but I'm sure you can still make it. Level 7: This also has the same layout as in level 2, but with more obstacles. This could be hard and it will probably cost you a lot of plant. For an easy win, just use the usual 4 peas or 2 peas + 2 spears, and prepare a lawnmower. The zombies will trigger the mowers once. Then, activate your bonus lawnmowers and they will crush the zombies on last wave. Level 8: This level is a bit easier than the previous one although I used all 5 peas I had and I almost failed this one. So, I suggest placing 1 or 2 wall-nut on the intersection to be safe. Place 3 sunflowers instead of 2 for this level since it's harder than before. Level 9: This is similar to level 4, and fortunately there is no obstacle! So, use the strategy for level 4 with addition of 1 or 2 spears at the back. Also use 3 sunflowers if you're low on sun. Level 10: Alright, this is the last and probably the most confusing level in this area. It is similar to level 5 with obstacles in the center. So, where should you place your plants? Well, actually it's notthat difficult. Just place the peas outside, 1 pea for each lane. It's easier than you think, I managed to win with 4 peas as usual without using bonus lawnmower. Just remember that you have Plant Perk and Zombi Freeze, they're quite useful for this level. You got a brick for winning, and you need to reclaim the car lot. Simply reclaim it using the old trick, 4-peas placed where they can't be attacked from 2 paths. You got the Beet seed for winning! This new plant is the boxer of plants, having a really great damage that can put normal zombies to sleep with only 2 hits. The only downside is their low range. But anyway, they're still really good and they're going to help you a lot in the next area. Plant a lot of them. On Dave's Car Lot, there is his car. That's considered a building and will produce the Gardening Gloves. These are used to move your plant when in a road trip level. Overall, they're not too useful in my opinion. But anyway, you might find a way to use them later. Now, ask help to your friend to unlock the next area or buy them with bucks. After you're done, visit the new area, Park-n-Perish. +--------------------------------------------------------------+ Park-n-Perish [WKT04] +--------------------------------------------------------------+ This section is under construction. I'll update it soon. +--------------------------------------------------------------+ Killjoy Park [WKT05] +--------------------------------------------------------------+ This section is under construction. I'll update it soon. +--------------------------------------------------------------+ Sweaty Palms [WKT06] +--------------------------------------------------------------+ This section is under construction. I'll update it soon. #=============================================================================# # ORGANIZE YOUR TOWN # # [OYT] # #=============================================================================# Have you ever wondered why your town has paths here and there? Surely, they aren't there for Crazy Dave or other townspeople to walk on, right? No, they aren't. They are for zombies to walk on. The stupid logic is how zombies have to stay on the path to get to the house, while they could just come from all directions like in those zombie movies. Ahem... anyway, it actually makes it easier for us. You have to protect your town using plants. It mostly works the same as in road trip levels. The only major difference is you don't place the plants when the zombies are coming, but before the zombies come. That's why you need to organize your town well to prevent zombies getting to your houses. There are a lot of things about your town which you might have known or haven't. This includes strategies for plants placement and path modification. Let's begin. As you might have known, the paths aren't fixed. You can actually edit them in edit mode and buy more paths in buy mode. That's the first thing you have to do when you get a new lot. The default path it gives you is bad and isn't advantageous for you. Zombies only come from the path that touches the edge of the field. If you have 3 paths like that, zombies will come from all 3 and will make your life harder. So, the first thing you want to change is the entrance path. If there are 2 or more entrance paths, remove some of them, leaving only 1 for zombies to come from. This way, you only need to handle 1 wave of zombies and it is a lot easier. But, the plan isn't finished with just that. The thing that could break your plan is when the zombies get to your plant and bite them. This is what usually happens in road trip levels. But in your town, you can prevent it from happening. These are the layouts I'm suggesting. * * * * * * -> = zombies direction * 2 1 1 1 1 * * * * * * * * <- This is the basic layout that I use mostly on all of my lots. It needs at least 4 rows and some columns (preferably more than 4) of tiles to make it works. So, the idea here is to let your plants attack the zombies without taking any damage from them. I placed most of my plants (usually peas or snow peas) on tiles numbered 1. Zombies have to get behind your plants to attack them, so it actually gives your plant a lot of time to kill those zombies. You can also place your plant on number 2, although it lets the zombies get to your plant faster. But, it's still good since number 2 can still cover a lot of area. Or, you can put a beet there instead of a pea if you need to. Beet can hit harder and they're designed to be short-ranged hitters, so number 2 is a perfect place for them. Also, if you're using beet, placing a wall-nut beside it would be great. * * * * * * 3 3 3 3 * * * * * * * * -> = zombies direction * 2 1 1 1 1 * * * * * * * * <- Now, there is an addition to the layout. As you can see, I extended the path 3 rows to the back to put more plants there. What can you put there? The spears, of course! Those places on number 3 are just perfect for spears since the spears can still attack the front row from there, but also be far enough to prevent zombies from approaching. The problem with this layout is that it takes to much space. So, you can instead place it like this if you are low on spaces. 3 3 3 3 * * * * * * -> = zombies direction * 2 1 1 1 1 * * * * * * * * <- It needs 2 less rows from the previous layout. It actually makes the spears more vulnerable since they get closer to the front row. But, if you're certain that the zombies won't even get near them, you can use this. The good thing about defending your town is that your plants don't vanish when you finish a zombies' attack, like in the road trip levels. So, you can put a pea there and it will continue to protect your town until you pull it out from the lot. But, wall-nuts don't work like that. Once they're bitten until dead, they're gone. You won't see them again and you have to place another wall-nut to replace them. That could be a problem if you lose a wall-nut everytime the zombies come. So, try not to use a lot of wall-nuts in your lot. If you really have to use them, use them as the last resort to stop the zombies. Don't place them in the front just to get them crushed early. This also goes for cherry bomb, which also vanish when used. Use them only for last resort. Sunflowers also works great if you place it in your lot. You might ask, why? You don't need sun to place your plants. But, you might need them to use your Plant Perk and Zombi Freeze. Sometimes, there are waves of zombies which are a lot harder than usual. The sun come handy at times like this to help you boost your plant or freeze the zombies. I usually put one of them in every lot. Sometimes, your house might block the tiles where you want to place paths on. If you didn't know, you can also move and rotate your house in edit mode. Try to move your house if you're having problem with it. Here's an advice from Mike: "DONT keep the default path layout. Merge paths within zones and stretch them out as long as possible (zig-zag, etc.) This gives your plants tons of time to do their job." It's a great strategy, especially if you use a lot of aspearagus. The zig-zag paths will really help in slowing down the zombies. Thank you for your advice. #=============================================================================# # PLANTS AND ZOMBIES # # [PNZ] # #=============================================================================# Here's the list of plants and zombies that you can find in this game. Otherwise, they are normal speed These lists are not complete yet and will be added when the time comes. Note: There are some strange things which might happen to you. For some people, the growing time of several plants might be faster than what is written above. For example, the growing time of wall-nut is 1 hour for me, while it is 15 minutes for some other people (I've confirmed it with my friend). My guess is that the devs deliberately did it to test it on this beta version OR they had an update and they forgot to change it for players who played before the update. So, I'll just stay with the growth time that's on my own game until there's further information. #=============================================================================# # ACHIEVEMENTS # # [ACV] # #=============================================================================# There are 2 kind of achievements that you can get from finishing a level, the normal achievements and the secret achievements. Try to win using minimum amount of plants. Save up plants for the next level. - Always build/upgrade your building to maximize coin production. - Coins are scarce. Decide which plants you really need and plant those first before spending too much coins on plants you don't need. - Don't forget, you have Plant Perk to boost your plant and ZombiFreeze to stun zombies. If you don't really need to place a plant, better use the sun for Plant Perk or ZombiFreeze. But, don't overuse them as they cost sun. - Plant Perk increase the attack area of peas, spears, and snow peas; increase the attack damage of beet; strengthen the defense of Wall-nut; remove thing that is currently attached to a magnet plant; and will stun surrounding zombies if used on sunflowers. - Zombies will attack Wall-nut first prior to other plants. So, you can make a good combo of wall-nut and beet if you place them carefully. - Zombies can attack the plant on the corner of the road like this picture below, so be careful when placing your plants. P <- can be attacked ***** * * * #=============================================================================# # VERSIONS # # [VER] # #=============================================================================# - Version 0.1 (May 26, 2013) Added a walkthrough from the start until finishing The Boonies.
