When it digs, it will splatter mud onto the screens of surrounding players and can potentially put out candles so an oil lamp or bullseye lantern is acceptable. The Giant Mole is one of the easier bosses in the world of Runescape. However, it is nonetheless deadly. It can hit in the low twenties even when wearing armor and so for players who have less than 85 defense, I would recomend using prayer. There are numerous ways to kill the Giant Mole. However because usually you require the aid of potions, or ammo if you are ranging, this monster may not be as rewarding as other bosses such as the King Black Dragon. It has high magic defense so only melee and ranged are advised. The Giant Mole lives in its lair under the Falador Park and this area can be accessed by using a spade while standing on any one of the various mole holes around the park. There are plenty of baby moles around the mazelike lair but fortunetaly, they do not appear on your mini-map. This is important because the Giant Mole appears as a yellow dot on the mini-map and therefore allows you to track it easily. It wouldn't be so easy if you see a bunch of yellow dots rushing around the mini-map. The Giant Mole spawns about 3 minutes after it is killed at a room which south from where you will enter the lair. Around there is a summoning obelisk so if you brought a familiar, you can restore your points there. After you get the mole down to around half health, it will dig away and appear in another spot in the lair. You need to find it and hit it as soon as you can. It can get very frustrating however, killing the Giant Mole can be very rewarding which I will explain later in the Rewards Section. This gives reason to poison the Mole to make sure that it suffers while you search for it. You will be running around like crazy so you can bring some energy potions or your explorer's ring to replenish your run energy but I would just save inventory space because the new rest feature can restore run energy fairly quickly. 0==================0 |Methods of Killing|-(MOK2) 0==================0 The mole is a fairly easy boss and I would go solo with it. Its very possible for anyone around combat level 80 or higher to kill the mole effectively with the help of potions. /\Solo Melee Method/\-(SOM3) I would suggest level 70+ in defense, strength, and attack but slightly lower stats are acceptable. Also, you will need 43+ prayer for melee protect. -Armor- Helm: Rune or Dragon or better Torso: Rune or better Legs: Rune or Dragon or better Shield: Rune defender, Dragon Square shield, or better (or none if you are using Saradomin Sword or Godsword) Amulet: Glory or Better Cape: Obsidion or better Boots: Rune or Dragon or better Ammo: none Gloves: Combat Bracelet (gives str bonus) or gauntlets from the Fist of Guthix Minigame or from the quest Recipe for Disaster Ring: Ring of Wealth or Life or berserker ring or warrior's ring -Weapon- Godsword > Saradomin Sword or Abyssal Whip > Dragon Scimitar > Dragon Longsword -Inventory- 1x Dragon Dagger (P++) 1x Super Attack Potion (4) 1x Super Strength Potion (4) 2x Prayer Potions (4) 10x Monkfish (or other food. Adjust numbers accordingly) 1x Spade 1x Light Source (ex: bullseye lantern) 1x One-click teleport =Optional= Regular or Super energy potions (may be costly though) -Strategy- 1) Take one sip of super attack potion and super strength potion and turn on protect from melee. Sip your prayer potion when needed. Whip out your Dragon Dagger (P++) and hit it with 4 special attacks. If it is not poisoned, keep attacking with the Dragon Dagger to poison it. 2) Take out secondary weapon and keep attacking. Keep your health high because I have been hit with low twenties over and over and I have been very close to dying when fighting this monster because I accidently got hit without prayer on. Also sip your prayer potion whenever your prayer gets down to around 15 points. 3) Eventually the mole will dig away and you will have to find it again. Turn off protect from melee and go searching. 4) Attack it again and use the same procedure as step 1 only using your secondary weapon instead of your Dragon Dagger (P++). If it digs away again, repeat steps 3 and 4. 5) Once it is dead, collect the loot and return to the spawn area. Restore run energy by resting and restore summoning points if needed. /\Solo Melee (Prayer Based)/\-(SMPB) Again I suggest 70+ in attack, strength, and defense but also, I would suggest 70+ prayer to reduce the use of prayer potions. Here you will use very little food and very little -Armor- Helm: Dragon or Better Torso: Initiate or Pros'yte Legs: Initiate or Pros'yte Shield: Rune defender/dragon square shield or better Amulet: Glory or better Cape: Obsidion or better Boots: Dragon or better Ammo: none Gloves: Combat Bracelet (gives str bonus) or gauntlets from the Fist of Guthix Minigame or from the quest Recipe for Disaster Ring: Ring of wealth or life -Weapon- Godsword > Saradomin Sword or Abyssal Whip > Dragon Scimitar > Dragon Longsword -Inventory- 1x Dragon Dagger (P++) 1x Super Attack Potion (4) 1x Super Strength Potion (4) 1x Prayer Potion (4) (if needed) 3x Monkfish (or other food. Adjust numbers accordingly) 1x Spade 1x Light Source (ex: bullseye lantern) 1x One-click teleport to house if you have an alter or to varrock for alter =Optional= Regular or Super energy potions (may be costly though) -Strategy- 1) Take one sip of super attack potion and super strength potion and turn on protect from melee. Sip your prayer potion when needed. Whip out your Dragon Dagger (P++) and hit it with 4 special attacks. If it is not poisoned, keep attacking with the Dragon Dagger to poison it. 2) Take out secondary weapon and keep attacking. Sip your prayer potion if your prayer gets down to around 15 points. To Bank: Teleport and go to an alter to restore points. Then return to the lair for more kills. /\Solo Dharok/\-(SDH4) This requires 70+ attack, strength, and defense and 70+ prayer is also recomended. -Armor- Helm: Dharok Torso: Dharok Legs: Dharok Shield: none Amulet: Glory or better Cape: Obsidion or better Boots: Dragon or better Ammo: none Gloves: Combat Bracelet (gives str bonus) or gauntlets from the Fist of Guthix Minigame or from the quest Recipe for Disaster Ring: Ring of wealth or life or berserker ring or warrior's ring -Weapon- Dharok's Great Axe -Inventory- 1x Dragon Dagger (P++) 1x Super Attack Potion (4) 1x Super Strength Potion (4) 1x Prayer Potion (4) (if needed) 3x Monkfish (or other food. 2) Switch to your Great Axe and allow the Giant Mole to hit you till you are under 25 health but watch out as you may die if you don't be careful. Turn on protect from melee and sip your prayer potion if needed. 3) Eventually the mole will dig away and you will have to find it again. Turn off protect from melee and go searching. 4) Attack it again and use the same procedure as step 1 only using your Great Axe instead of your Dragon Dagger (P++). If it digs away again, repeat steps 3 and 4. 5) Once it is dead, collect the loot and return to the spawn area. Restore run energy by resting and restore summoning points if needed. To Bank: Teleport and go to an alter to restore points. Then return to the lair for more kills. /\Solo Range/\-(SOR5) As long as you have 70+ range, you are relatively fine. You will be able to hit through the mole's defense. I also suggest 70+ defense however, there are plenty of safespots to attack from to keep from being damaged. -Armor- Helm: Saradomin/Zamorak/Guthix Coif or Robin Hood Hat Torso: Best dragonhide you can wear Legs: Best dragonhide you can wear Shield: Zamorak or Guthix Book Amulet: Glory or better Cape: Ava's Accumalator Boots: Snakeskin boots or Ranger boots Ammo: 200x Emerald Bolts (e) Gloves: Best dragonhide you can wear Ring: Ring of wealth or life or ranging -Inventory- 300x Ruby Botls (e) 1x Ranging Potion (4) (if you need it) 6x Monkfish (or other food. Adjust numbers accordingly) 1x Spade 1x Light Source (ex: bullseye lantern) 1x One-click teleport to house if you have an alter or to varrock for alter =Optional= Regular or Super energy potions (may be costly though) -Strategy- 1) Now the safespot in the spawn area is directly north of the summoning obelisk in the corner where two walls meet. When the Mole spawns, stand there and shoot at it. Unless it comes at you from the south, it will not be able to attack you. You can take a sip of your ranging potion if you want but at lvevel 70 ranged, I really don't think you'll need one. 2) Once it is poisoned with your emerald bolts (e), switch to your ruby bolts (e). If you don't know the effects of these two bolts already, emerald bolts have the chance to poison an enemy and rubies have the chance of taking 10% of your health for 20% of the enemy's health. 3) Eventually the mole will dig away and you will have to find it again. Go and search. 4) Attack it again and use the same procedure as step 1 only using the walls of the lair and stalagmites for the safespot as you can trap it there so that it cannot harm you. Use the ruby bolts (e). If it digs away again, repeat steps 3 and 4. 5) Once it is dead, collect the loot and return to the spawn area. Restore run energy by resting and restore summoning points if needed. /\Solo Melee (Dragon Halberd)/\-(SMDH) For this method, you generally do not need food nor prayer potions so I suggest 65+ attack and 70+ strength for this method. you will be attacking from a safespot so defense is not as important with this method. -Armor- Helm: Berserker recomended but rune or better works too Torso: Fighter Torso or better (for strength bonus) Legs: Rune or better Shield: None Amulet: Glory or better Cape: Obsidion or better Boots: Rune or climbing boots or better Ammo: none Gloves: Combat Bracelet (gives str bonus) or gauntlets from the Fist of Guthix Minigame or from the quest Recipe for Disaster Ring: Ring of wealth or life or berserker ring or warrior's ring -Weapon- Dragon Halberd -Inventory- 1x Dragon Dagger (P++) 2x Super Attack Potion (4) 2x Super Strength Potion (4) 4x Monkfish (or other food. Adjust numbers accordingly) 1x Spade 1x Light Source (ex: bullseye lantern) 1x One-click teleport =Optional= Regular or Super energy potions (may be costly though) Cheap and weak ranged weapon to hit the mole with to draw it near you without getting harmed. (ex: bronze knives) -Strategy- 1) Start by hitting the Mole with 4 dragon dagger (P++) specials to poison it. 2) Now run to the safespot and pull out your dragon halberd. The initial safespot is the same one as in the ranging method: north of the summoning obelisk in the little corner. If the mole doesn't come from the south, you should be okay. If it does, you will have to improvise and use the walls or stalagmites as cover. 3) Eventually the mole will dig away and you will have to find it again. Go and search. 4) Attack it again and use the same procedure as step 1 only using the walls of the lair and stalactites for the safespot as you can trap it there so that it cannot harm you. Make sure you can hit it without getting hit. If it digs away again, repeat steps 3 and 4. 5) Once it is dead, collect the loot and return to the spawn area. Restore run energy by resting and restore summoning points if needed. /\Solo Obsidian/\-(SOO6) This is a new and popular method of fighting. With the berserker necklace and obsidian weapons. Only problem is that the berserker necklace will raise strength but lower attack so while you can hit higher, you may not hit as often. However it beats the cost of other weapons because a obsidian splitsword + berserker necklace combo can hit as much as an abyssal whip. -Armor- Helm: Berserker recomended but rune or better works too Torso: Fighter Torso or better (for strength bonus) Legs: Rune or better Shield: Rune defender or better Amulet: Berserker Necklace Cape: Obsidion or better Boots: Rune or climbing boots or better Ammo: none Gloves: Combat Bracelet (gives str bonus) or gauntlets from the Fist of Guthix Minigame or from the quest Recipe for Disaster Ring: Berserker ring -Weapon- Obsidian split sword > Obsidian knife I would not use the maul here because it's very slow and misses a lot although it hits very high. -Inventory- 1x Dragon Dagger (P++) 1x Super Attack Potion (4) 1x Super Strength Potion (4) 2-3x Prayer Potion (4) 12x Monkfish (or other food. Adjust numbers accordingly) 1x Spade 1x Light Source (ex: bullseye lantern) 1x One-click teleport =Optional= Regular or Super energy potions (may be costly though) -Strategy- This strategy is the same as the first Solo Melee strategy so please refer to that one if you are using this method. /\Team Strategy/\-(TSY7) When fighting in a team, you can use any of the above strategies. However, if you want to share the loot equally with your teammates, I suggest you not split up to find the mole but have one person lead and the others follow so that everyone can gain some items from the lootshare system. The lootshare system will only grant you a reward for killing a monster if you are near the enemy when it is killed. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it is 10 steps within the monster at the time of death. You may be able to cut down on your prayer potion and food usage because you have teammates there to help you but be warned that you may need to stay longer to fill up your inventory full of loot with a team than if you are killing the Giant Mole solo. /\Overview and Ratings of Methods/\-(OROM) Here is what I thought of each of the methods. =Solo Melee)= Rating: 7/10 -Fairly Easy -Good if you have high attack, strength, and defense HOWEVER -May cost a lot because of prayer potions =Solo Melee (Prayer Based)= Rating: 7/10 -Fairly easy -Cuts down on prayer potion usage therefore more cost effective HOWEVER -Requires an alter every trip which can be tedious if you do not have one in your house -Requires high prayer to be effective =Solo Dharok= Rating: 5/10 -Great way of using the Dharok set effect to hit high numbers HOWEVER -Requires good strength, attack, and prayer to be used effectively -More chance of dying -Requires an alter -The need to recharge the Dharok's set =Solo Ranged= Rating: 8/10 -Uses little food -No prayer potions needed -Safe spot so less worrying about dying -Great if you have void HOWEVER -Ammo can be expensive =Solo Melee (Dragon Halberd)= Rating: 6/10 -Safespots take away the need for large amounts of food -Great for pures who use melee HOWEVER -Slow -May eat up potions faster -Harder to find safespots than range sin you need to be right next to it to hit it =Solo Obsidion= -Cost effective HOWEVER -May not hit as well as regular weapons (it's cheap for a reason) =Team Strategy= -Great to hunt with your friends -Split the use of prayer and food HOWEVER -Split the loot -May not get loot if you are not near the Mole when it dies 0=======0 |Rewards|-(REW8) 0=======0 Taken from Tip It Runescape at http://www.tip.it/runescape/?rs2monster_id=630 "Top Drops: Dragon Med Helm Rune Med Helm Rune Spear Rune 2h Sword Rune javelin (5) Rune Battle Axe Dragon Spear Rune Kiteshield Rune Square Shield Rune Bar Yew Logs (100) Amulet of Glory Cut Dragonstone Halk Key Dragon Shield Left Half Rune Ore Lesser Drops: 3000 coins Big bones Mole skin(1-3) Mole claw Adamant longsword Mithril battleaxe Mithril hatchet Adamant javelin(20) Mithril platebody Mithril chainbody Air Rune (105) Fire Rune (105) Death Rune (7-45) Law Rune (15) Blood Rune (15) Nature Rune (62,67) Iron Ore (690) Steel Ore (150) Shark(1,4) Bass Iron ore(100 noted) Silver Ore(100 noted) Mithril bar Amulet of strength Amulet of power Oyster pearls Uncut gems Long bone Curved bone Nature Talisman Gold Charm Green Charm Crimson Charm Blue Charm" Remember that this rewards section is quoted from Tip It Runescape and I do not claim it as my own in any way.
