* * * * * * * * * * PRAYER GUIDE * * * * * * * * * * > Version: 1.2 > Last updated: 26 April 2003 > Author: Alan Johnson This guide is aimed at people who are dedicated to levelling up their prayer and want to know the best way to do it. Below is a list of what I recommend you do at various levels. Note that this guide is aimed for people who don't like doing quests such as myself. At the bottom of the guide is a little list of quests that give prayer experience. - - - - - - - Levels 1 - 10 - - - - - - - This is the easiest stage of prayer levelling. It will not take very long to level up your prayer from 1 - 10. All you have to do really is kill chickens and bury their bones. In the process, you will also get combat experience as well. The best places to do this is at lumbridge on an empty server. There are many chickens around here which are just waiting to be slaughtered. Some people kill the chickens just for the combat experience and not for prayer experience so they often leave the bones. Take this opportunity to collect and bury all the bones you can find. If you are a member, you will find that leveling your prayer from 1 - 10 couldnt be easier. Since the vast majority of runescape's members are over level 30 combat, they will leave the chickens alone and train on higher leveled opponents. Take this opportunity to kill all the chickens and bury their bones. Another excellent place (which is members only) can be found just south of the Khazard battlefield. There are literally dozens of gnomes (level 3) who always drop bones. Not too many people kill them and those that do do not bury the bones. Sometimes I find several dozen bones on the floor when I first arrive! - - - - - - - - Levels 11 - 20 - - - - - - - - This stage is much harder than the last but is still fairly easy. I would recommend you continue killing chickens. If you are feeling brave and your combat level is above 40, go into the wilderness and bury the bones from the big bone respawn. You have to watch out for the skeletons though. They are aggressive (like all monsters in the wilderness) and often get in your way. If you decide to go into the wilderness to get your bones, I recommend you bring the following: - Rune 2 hander - Rune plate mail - Rune legs - Steel large helmet - Food which heals at least 120 health altogether (170+ recommended) Explanations of why to bring them: ** Rune 2 hander ** Bring this so you can kill the skeletons quickly and have less of them to bother you for a short time. ** Rune plate mail ** Bring this to increase your defence. If you didn't bring this, your defence would be very poor and the skeletons would be hitting you very often. This would make your food supply run out faster. ** Rune legs ** Bring this to increase your defence. If you didn't bring this, your defence would be very poor and the skeletons would be hitting you very often. This would make your food supply run out faster. ** Steel large helmet ** Bring this to increase your defence. It does not provide much defence points but it can be easily replaced unlike helmets which are stronger and cost more... ** Food ** This is pretty self explanatory. You need to bring food because it will allow you to stay at the respawn area for longer. If you can not afford or bring those items for whatever reason, adamantite armor will do. Mithril will also suffice but nothing below that as you would be killed fairly quickly. I would suggest you bring 20 cooked lobsters with you. Obviously, the more food you bring, the longer you will be able to stay there... NOTE: Do not waste your food by healing less than it can heal. For example, if you have 45hp and you are down to 37hp, do not eat a lobster as it would waste some of it (you would be healing only 8hp instead of the 12hp it can heal). Wait until you drop down to 32 or 33hp before eating it. We would not bring all our armour since if you got killed, you would lose some of it and since you are not 25 prayer yet, you wouldnt be able to protect an extra item. If you really want to, you can bring more armor but do so at your own risk. You would be a greater target to pker's... - - - - - - - - Levels 21 - 30 - - - - - - - - This area is even harder. It will take hours before actually getting to level 30 from level 20. I would recommend you bury bones from the respawn area as it is still the fastest way to go. When you reach level 25 prayer, you can bring an extra item with you to the wilderness but remember to protect it if you are getting pk'ed or dying... - - - - - - - - Levels 31 - 40 - - - - - - - - This area is harder still and is very boring. You should continue burying bones from the respawn areas in the wilderness. If that takes too long and/or is too boring, you could always buy your bones. Make money using your favourite money making scheme and buy big bones every once in a while. The money method is recommended only if you earn 100k or higher per hour since only then will it be faster than collecting bones from the wilderness. If you earn 150k+ per hour, this method is definitely recommended. At level 31 prayer, you can also access the prayer guild which is located in the Monestary east of the Dwarven mines and north east of Falador. Inside the guild, there is a Monks robe respawn (together they give 12 prayer). This increases how long your prayers last by about 25 - 30%. There is also brother Jared who can bless Symbols of Saradomin. These give 8 prayer points. With the monks robes and the Holy Symbol of Saradomin on, your prayer will be at 20 which makes prayers last about 60% longer than if you had no special prayer enhancing items on. - - - - - - Levels 41+ - - - - - - At this stage, you should be feeling very proud of yourself. You can now do every one of the prayers in the game! If you still wish to raise your prayer, you can do so in the following ways: (Ratings are out of 5 stars (*****)) * * * * * * * * * * ** Respawn areas ** * * * * * * * * * * --> Skeleton area in the wilderness - 2 big bones (****) --> Pros Not usually crowded Easy combat training as well as prayer training Bone respawns are fairly close to each other Fairly fast respawn times (15 seconds) --> Cons Its in fairly high level wilderness Skeletons are aggressive, dont retreat and spawn fairly quickly --> Khazard battlefield north of Gnome Tree Villiage (members only) - 16 normal bones (****) --> Pros Rarely anybody picking up these bones Not in the wilderness Theres a lot of bones They respawn fairly quickly The bones are fairly close to each other --> Cons It is very boring since all you do is click These bones dont give much experience compared with the big bone respawn in the wildy * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** Places of interest ** * * * * * * * * * * * * * --> Edgeville dungeon - 5 giants spawn at the end (**) --> Pros Not in the wildy --> Cons Crowded almost all day long Only 5 giants respawn there at a slow rate --> Fire giant cavern in level 49 wilderness (members only) - About 6 giants respawn here at a fairly fast rate. Very few pker's come here but it is still dangerous. A lot of level 50's - 80's train here at peak times... But at times when the players on RS are less than 7500, there is rarely anybody there (****) --> Pros Provides excellent combat training as well as prayer training Giants respawn fairly quickly Not usually crowded --> Cons Its in level 49 wilderness Level 90+ pker's sometimes go by there --> Gnome area south of the Khazard Battlefield - There are dozens of level 3 gnomes here who can be killed to drop regular bones. This place is very useful if you can 1 hit them. (***) --> Pros Fast combat training as well as prayer training Sometimes, bones are scattered all over the place since some people dont pick them up Not in the wilderness Very small chance of you getting killed (they are level 3 afterall) --> Cons Can get quite crowded during peak times Not the best place for prayer training as it is fairly slow --> Altar in Monestary north east of Falador - You need level 31 prayer to get into this 'guild'. Inside, there is a monks robe respawn which increases how long each prayer lasts, as well as an altar which not only recharges your prayer points, but adds an extra 2 on top of that (so if I had 3/50 prayer and I recharged at that altar, I would have 52/50). (*****) Note that this extra prayer is temporary. If you try to recharge at a regular altar, you would get 50/50 not 52/50. This location doesnt need a pro/con list. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Quests that give prayer experience - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - > Holy Grail Quest (members only) - Gives 10k prayer xp > The Restless Ghost (freeplay) - Gives approximately 2k - 2.5k xp - - - - - - - - - - - - - Other useful information - - - - - - - - - - - - - * * * * * * * * * ** Experience ** * * * * * * * * * > Regular bones give 3.75xp each > Big bones give 12.5xp each > Dragon bones give 60xp each * * * * * * * * * ** Bone drops ** * * * * * * * * * Every type of giant drops big bones. The best type of giant to fight is a regular giant (level 37) because it is the lowest leveled giant in the game. Enemies that drop big bones are: Giants - Level 37 Moss giants - Level 62 Ice giants - Level 68 Fire giants - Level 109 Every type of dragon apart from the baby blue dragon drops dragon bones. Fighting dragons for prayer experience is not recommended for people with hitpoints below 75 as it will be too slow to kill them and bury the bones. It would also take up too much food if you are below 75 hitpoints. - - - - - - - - - The Use of Prayer - - - - - - - - - > Training Prayer at high levels can be very helpful in battles and training. I have level 43 prayer and rarely use all my armor to train. I just take my monks robes and holy symbol of Saradomin and train on the Druids in Taverly. I use paralyze monster all the time and because there is an altar right next to you, there is no need to bring food. > Dying Prayer can also be very helpful when you die. At level 25 prayer, you can protect an extra item if you die which means you lose less. This is invalueable for prayer beasts as it is what they rely on to kill other players successfully > Duelling When dueling, you can give yourself an advantage by turning on as many combat related prayers as possible. If you increase your strength by 15% (level 31 prayer) it gives you a great advantage. For example, if your stats are 80 80 80 80 and you turn on increase strength, attack and defence by 15%, your stats would effectively be 92 92 92 80. > Player Killing As well as being useful for duelling, prayer is extremely useful to kill other players. Use the same prayers as mentioned in the duelling section. > General Prayer can also be extremely helpful in general circumstances. For example, if you decide to explore the wilderness or get some items from the wilderness, you would obviously want protection. The level 40 prayer which protects you from all ranged attacks would be very helpful here. No longer will rangers be a threat (at least for a little while) - - - - - - - - - - Prayer explanations - - - - - - - - - - Level - Name - Explanation 1 - Thick Skin - Increases your defence level by 5%. If you had level 80 defence, with this prayer on, it would become level 84 defence effectively. 4 - Burst of Strength - Increases your strength level by 5%. If you had 80 strength, with this prayer on, it would become 84 strength effectively. 7 - Clarity of Thought - Increases you attack level by 5%. If you had 80 attack, with this prayer on, it would become 84 attack. 10 - Rock Skin - Increases your defence level by 10%. If you had level 80 defence, with this prayer on, it would become level 88 defence effectively. 13 - Superhuman strength - Increases your strength level by 10%. If you had level 80 strength, with this prayer on, it would become level 88 strength effectively. 16 - Improved reflexes - Increases your attack level by 10%. If you had level 80 defence, with this prayer on, it would become level 88 attack effectively. 19 - Rapid Restore - This prayer restores your stats at double the normal rate. Instead of your stats recharging at 1 per minute, they would recharge at 1 per 30 seconds. So for example, if your attack was reduced from level 60 to 55, it would take 5 minutes to restore back to level 60 again. However, with this prayer it would take only 2 and a half minutes. This does not work on hitpoints however. Everything else apart from hitpoints. 22 - Rapid Heal - Same as above but this prayer works only on hitpoints and nothing else. 25 - Protect items - Allows you to keep an extra item if you die. If you have no skull, it means that you will keep 4 items with this prayer instead of the normal 3. If you had a skull, you would keep 1 item instead of the usual 0. 28 - Steel skin - Increases your defence level by 15%. If you had level 80 defence, with this prayer on, it would become level 92 defence effectively. 31 - Ultimate strength - Increases your strength level by 15%. If you had level 80 strength, with this prayer on, it would become level 92 strength effectively. 34 - Incredible reflexes - Increases your attack level by 15%. If you had level 80 attack, with this prayer on, it would become level 92 attack effectively. 37 - Paralyze monster - Quite self explanatory. This prayer stops any monster from hurting you. The monster appears not to be hitting you at all. Note that this prayer does NOT work on human players. 40 - Protect from Missiles - This prayer protects you from all ranged attacks temporarily. It only works on ranged, not magic. Mages will still be able to hit you with this prayer on... - - - - - - Bone prices - - - - - - Normal bones: 25gp - 80gp each Big bones: 300gp - 500gp each Dragon bones: 2500gp - 3500gp each Note that these prices are rough. Some people may sell for the upper boundary while others may aim for the lower boundary. I recommend you aim for the higher side of the boundary but not the highest. About 75% of the way there if you see what I mean. _____________________________________ - - - - - - - - - COPYRIGHT NOTICE - - - - - - - - - If you want to post this guide somewhere, it must be exactly the same as it is here (including this copyright notice).
