1. INTRODUCTION
Battle Lode Runner is a more than satisfactory extension of Lode Runner
proper, not necessarily for the battle subgame, but for some interesting
small levels and some small tweaks to the AI that make for a few extra
puzzles. It features 10 groups of 10 levels with a final one, each with a
theme from a certain historic period or, in the case of level 101, in the
future. You still have the same dig-and-hunt as in most Lode Runners, but
this port features variably sized levels where often the smaller ones are
tougher than the larger ones.
While a few of the tougher levels are copied from Championship Lode Runner,
overall Battle Lode Runner explores some interesting puzzles that should keep
you occupied without being too taxing.
2. CONTROLS AND SCORING
2-1. CONTROLS
Up/down/left/right work as you think, though you can only go up when on a
ladder. Pushing down with a chute below and support above sends you down.
UD movement trumps LR.
Button 1 = right dig, button 2 = left dig.
SELECT=bring up list of options. You can traverse the whole screen while
you're paused, and you can pause, continue, give up or save the game.
You can also turbo-dig i.e. move one way and dig that way too. Hold down the
direction and the button to dig in and the computer will do the work.
The computer automatically kicks you to the grid square closest to where you
are if you dig, which can sometimes save a fraction of a second. In one level
this is critical.

2-2. SCORING
The basics:
Enemy killed 100
Gold 100
No credit for gold that doesn't show when you dig an enemy under a dug brick.
You have to kill him.
Still get points for gold that is crushed with an enemy. Different
No level point bonus, but you get an extra guy. Also no more than 99
runners/lives though you get an extra life for each level solved, so with 2
to start and 100 levels to solve it probably won't be an issue, unless you
are a save-state perfectionist.
Sometimes fruit appears. It seems random when this happens. Here's what you
get for it:

3. STRATEGIES AND AI
3-1. PUZZLE GAME
Unlike most Lode Runner versions, you shouldn't auto dig if you are trying to
trap enemies. They can walk out of the trap that way. What happens is that
the holes heal as fast as they walk over. Pause before each dig if need be.
Holes take unusually long to fill in meaning more margin for error in tricky
digs than in most other versions.
Stand 1U of the bottom of a ladder to watch opponents go to the top.
Sometimes they hook to the sides. Other times you'll need to go various
distances up the ladder. Experiment to see which one kicks the enemies the
way you want. Once they start one direction they continue that way.
If there is a hole between you and the enemies and you are level with them,
they may turn away from you. However, if you go down to a place where they
can "see" even a blocked passage to you, they'll follow back down.
One of the TG-16 specific quirks is that if you are at the top of a ladder
and an enemy climbs under you, he kicks you up instead of killing you. You
have to be at the very top--though you can also fall on an enemy bobbing at
the top of a ladder.
If you need to get to an area that is tough to get out of, and there are 2
ways out, it's useful to find a way to lump enemies, often by standing on a
ladder. It's also nice to know how to get enemies into a corner where they
get stuck.
Enemies fall off a rope when you do, which is useful when you need to drop
one into a pit.
Enemies drop ridiculous speeds as do you but are stunned critically just
after for a second. Still, you can often walk over an enemy and, as it falls,
walk onto a platform that is otherwise protected from you falling on it that
way.
Because you drop at a ridiculous speed, in timing puzzles you often want to
drop instead of going back down a ladder. A half-beat can mean the difference
between failure and success.
Before dropping into a cement-block area where you can't dig, use the level
pause and viewer to make sure enemies are all on one side. Sometimes it's
best to do this before you start digging down a structure in the first place.
In levels where you have trouble figuring what to do, go after what seem to
be the easiest gold first. Then the harder. Just try to get to a tough gold
first, then figure a way out later.
Don't get impatient when there is one task to do repeatedly--that's a great
way to lose a guy, making a silly shortcut. Yes, it's the designers' fault
for making it tedious. No, that doesn't make losing a guy when you're so
close feel any better. That's what save states do.

Run left, dig left over the C, and dig left past the monster that falls in.
Dig to the bottom. Get the gold there. Wait for the enemies to come down,
then run to the top, getting the gold on the W. Dig down into the E and then
go back up, drop on the L and dig into the E. Dig to the bottom for the rest
of the gold, then a ladder appears on the right for an easy out.

Head left. Dig right to go right, then dig back left as you climb the far
right stairs. Dig right, go down, dig right, and get the gold. Then dig down
2 more for the other gold. Climb back up. If nobody is close to you, you can
get the gold over the cement, but otherwise wait for later.
If you need to buy time to get to the DR or over the cement, you can move to
the left over the encased gold, dig over it and drop through and dig and run
back right, digging left as you go. If the cement is really tricky, dig left
before going right. Also, if a monster is nearby and you can dig holes to
slow him down, do so.
Eventually you will be able to make it to the ladder pyramid, loot
everything, go left on the rope and get the gold. You don't need much of a
head start since you're so much faster than your enemies. Go right, drop down
and go left and again this is a good time to sucker enemies over though you
won't need to. Climb back up the center and go right this time. Fall down the
narrow shaft and get the gold. A ladder should appear so you can exit. You
can dig out, 2-1, to leave, but it's quicker this way.
Note that if enemies are on the far right you can slip down the shaft before
they get there, and they will climb back down looking for you. Of course you
could lure them out, but sometimes it pays to know when you can sneak by
enemies because you are so much faster.

Some moderately fancy digging is needed here. Don't dig when the guys are
behind you--you're way ahead of them. You can take the b in one swoop. Here
is the order to dig in:

Fall down, go back up and dig anyone in your way. You must fall down the rope
and go R U L for some gold. If an enemy blocks you to the right, fall off the
rop and lure him left. You should be able to get by even two of them that
way. Note that while you can sneak by, they are likely to grab gold if they
do fall in the R, so be prepared to dig after completing the R.
To get the gold on the diagonal of the R, dig as follows:

Right, up, left for one gold and dig behind a lot. Get the gold in the DL
corner. Run past the enemy and get the gold on the ladders. It may be tricky
to fake out an enemy above you, but if all else fails, drop to the bottom and
he will too, then run up around him. Get the gold at the top and then go
right and dig for the gold in the 2x1 compartments. Get all the way right and
clean that area up. If an enemy falls, head towards the rope and dig and run
over him. Dig all the way down for the solitary DR gold.
You have 2 more 2x1 compartments to get. You should have no problems getting
in--just dig a bit--and you can just wait a bit to get out at the right time
and run past the enemies. Level stairs are in the UL.

This level has something in common with a Lode Runner Arcade level. ??
Head right, go up the ladder, drop on the platform and go back up, then drop
on the gold in the left niche. Wait for your enemies to come right. Then
climb up the ladder and run over them.
Now go to the top and get the gold in the structure below. Dig as follows.

Dig on top of each gold on the end of the structure. The enemies may be after
you now, but to avoid them totally, let them come down after you then run
back up. It's best not to dig as they crowd the UR after regenerating.
Dig over the 2 adjacent golds and go back up the stairs halfway so the
enemies wait left of you. Dig your way past the one enemy and get the final
gold in the UL. If a ladder doesn't appear, an enemy may have gold, so dig
them up and run back right if they do.

Lots of trips up and down here but they are mostly very low risk.
Go up the right stairs and dig 1R over the gold to the left. Fall down. When
the enemies are lumped, run left and go 1U so the enemies go back right. Dig
1L when over the left gold at the top. Fall down to get all of it. Then fall
down the center. Enemies may have split up by now so be sure to check right
and left and go in the direction of least resistance.
Drop down the center. Go either way let or right and back up a ladder, then
fall the other way. Dig down the center next time to get the 4-wide.

Then 2-1 dig to the left side to get out.
On the 1-rope right if center, dig left, fall, then dig right and fall until
2U of the gold chest, then dig 1L over it and fall down. Repeat, mirrored,
for the left. Dig whatever enemies you have to.

ladder turns enemies right.

Dig to get by an enemy, then go to the top and 2-1 dig into the center of the
key. 3-2-1 dig to the right to get on the ledge with the gold. Note you can't
alternate between the left and the right as you don't have quite enough
space, so just go back up and mirror what you did the next time down. You'll
need to go up a third time to get the level ladders on top of the key.
There may be problems with enemies regenerating near the top, so either let
them by or dig a hole and let one by before running to the top if enemies are
a problem--and they probably won't be.

Go right, dig a bunch of holes and go up/down on the broken ladder to the
left so that the enemies delay a bit and fall into the holes you dug. The
enemies will regenerate and you can dig on each side, making it past the
enemies to the right this time. Climb one rung up the next ladder you're up
to twist your enemies around. You may have to retreat to pick up gold they
left, but just repeat what you did before--dig on each side in proportion to
the enemies on each side, then run over them. You may need to go to the top
and dig down to pick up some spare gold and you may need a time just digging
everyone up before you can make it right and up.

This is the canonical drop-and-chase level in every version of lode runner.
Go R U and drop down R L R L quickly etc. Then go R U the ladders, a bit
forther left, and drop, etc. Just be sure to keep your enemies together due
to the concrete floors. You can do this by just standing on the ladder at
some point and letting them lump together. Just be sure not to grab gold when
the other guy is vertically level with you or he might take some gold.
You may have to move your enemies to the other side after 3 zigzag falls. So
sit in the DR, wait and go U L and outrun them, then zigzag fall that way.
Ladder stairs appear above each long ladder.

An amusing quirk to take advantage of here--climb over the enemy and when he
is at the top of the stair, dig right and quickly go right. You don't need to
time this--you can hold down dig-right. Stand at the very top of the ladder
and the guy will push you up. Run left, dig right and go up the left stair.
Again the enemy will bob you up. Run right for the remaining gold, and the
level ladders will be right there.

Your first encounter with false bricks you can fall through. They'll surprise
you if you don't know where they are.
Thankfully the enemies here are very stupid. If they block you out on the
long right ladder up, which you need to take to get back up several times for
your falls through. Also, if an enemy falls left off the ladder, you can land
on him.
You do need three trips to get through this. First, go left and get all the
gold, then dig over the two gold on top of each other. Dig over the gold
below and fall through. You may need to dig at the very bottom to get out of
a scrape, but first time through, run left then right.
Second time through, drop off the rope in the UR, then run left and you'll
fall through a false brick.
Third time through, dig over the remaining gold, get it, then run left. The
stairs are in the UR and you should be able to either push the enemies UL or
go UL and let them come to you, then dig and run over them.

The DR is a potential trap, so run there only when others cannot follow, or
go to the top and have them follow you before you drop down.
1R, dig left and wait for the enemies. Then you can break U R U and fall
right off the ropes. Go across and drop down to the right twice, then take
the rope twice, go up the ladder and get the gold. Drop back left.

Dig as above to get the gold on the platform--false bricks right. Fall right
and go R U for the gold. An enemy may chase you, but if so, 2L and fall down
to loop around him. You may have to dig your way back left. Once you do, go
up the big stairs and pick up whatever gold is lying to the right, then go
back up the long stairs and fall left off the ropes. Get all the gold there.
You need to get back to the right edge, but enemies may be guarding it.
Sucker them to the bottom if they are in the UR and then run past them. It's
best to run and not dig(or just dig once) because if an enemy regenerates at
the top over the cement triangle, you are in a fix & you will have to
backtrack. But back left across the top you have the ladder to the next
level.

Go left, dig the guy and go to the DL. Up the ladder and fall right down the
triangle. L*, 1U and wait. The enemies will clump. Then sucker them left. Go
across the top and down the right edge. Now you just need to get into the
center where you can outrun any enemies that might appear--of course, you can
wait in the DR then outrun them back. You may need to dig holes for enemies
carrying gold before you go to the top, but there are enough places here to
lure or lump enemies that this level is not bad at all.

Go left and 2U. Wait for the enemy to approach and then go to the UR and dig
down the right column. Dig once to trap the enemy, then go to an edge and dig
and wait for him to get out of the pit before exiting. You can lure him to
the right edge and drop down the left and dig out.
Now the next bit is tricky and may require you to drop down the right a time
or two. You want to make sure the enemy in the middle is on his original
block or a bit to the right. Each time you fall down a chute inside the first
square, he turns and moves slightly. That split second is what you need to
escape. Dig over the 4-platform, dig its left, go 1L and dig right. Then make
sure this guy is killed so you don't have to deal with him again. To do this,
dig behind you when at the right edge. Then dig out of the mess. He's on the
right now, so dig down the left column with 2 gold. Dig right and when he
falls in, dig out then fall down the right with him near the left. Then you
should be done, so get out.Dig past him and down the two inside columns.

Here you have to keep digging up enemies until they bring down the gold
pieces they fall on. Just leave a bunch of holes either way, and if some
enemies get through, dig down to the bottom and repeat. You should be able to
buttress yourself well enough, and you can run over 3 dug guys at a time. If
you do have to dig down, your top priority is to get back up to the next
level.
This level may get tedious as it's very random when someone gets the top
gold, but there's little risk if you notice who falls where and dig 2x(# of
men on one side) holes that way and stay in the center. If you are feeling
brave you can go to the side and down which may cause enemies to backtrack
and kill them more quickly.
The other annoying gold is 1R of the center. The enemies fall left when they
come out, so the only way for one to get it is to fall right on top of it.
Also note that even if enemies leave behind a gold they picked up on a
pyramid, there's more chance the regenerated one will pick it up next time.

There's no definite way to do this level so I threw out some general
strategies.
Here it's best to tempt your enemies to come really close to you, then drop
down. The toughest gold is in the center, because the ladders are on the
edges and the enemies can trap you. If you are stuck for ideas just let one
follow you and the other will eventually follow.
If an enemy picks up a gold, then you will have to make him run along the
bottom. So your best bet may be to stand at the top of a ladder, then quickly
fall onto the gold you want. When possible, time your enemies' drops so they
are not over gold.
You can pick up the center in a swim motion if you do it right, i.e. drop on
the center gold, wait for enemies to follow you to one side(say the left) but
not too close. Then U R D on the far right gold, R U L D on the far left, L U
R D on the right, R U L D on the left.
The side gold, you can perform a similar swim but from one set of gold to the
other and back. But you can also climb 1U the ladder to repel enemies and
quickly go to the side and snatch some gold and repeat. Goad them over then
run over them and hit up the other side. You may need to goad them over once
more before climbing one of the big center ladders, since you can't dig.

Short solution: move immediately left, digging when you can. There'll always
be an empty square to dig on before the next guy approaches if you play
exactly. It's east to make it to the top.
If not you have a real fight on your hands. I only deduced what you can do--I
didn't actually manage to do it. The trick here is to dig left in the DR,
then wait and run past and dig right when he is about to come out. Dig left
when the next guy comes, then repeat, dig right to get rid of the guy behind,
and repeat. You don't want to eat up too much real estate, and you don't want
to kill any enemies either. Well, maybe one. The problem is that they
regenerate at the top and you have 2 rows of nobody there.

Oo, cool, a face. Go down the center and fall through the false bricks left
of the ladders for two golds. Move down quickly under the 2 golds next to
each other and get them, then let the guys from the right come left. This is
important because the level is asymmetrical and you will have to go to the
bottom, but it is too tough if guys are on both sides. Let 'em get close then
run away. U R D L and fall down over the center(either) of the 4 golds below.
If you did it right all guys are on the left. Head down to sucker some guys
over, go UR to get the "ear" gold and then go left. If enemies converge on
you go up left and down. A ladder forms at the top of the head as a sort of
alfalfa for you to advance, and you should have no problems outrunning the
enemies there.

Go up, dig right, get the gold and go back left. Now dig down the side of the
structure and keep digging up your enemies til they fall on the pit to the
right. To get each gold work as follows:
1. dig the top 5 right at the ladder
2. wait for the first one to re-form then dig 6
3. dig over the gold you want to get. You should have a second to waste even
for the rightmost.
4. repeat with the next gold
If an enemy gets stuck on the left side, you'll also need to wait for the
first block to reappear before digging him out, or you risk having to go
inside the structure where you'll get entombed.
In the end you need to release the enemies, but when you dig right you can
actually just walk over them. To be super-safe you can back up and dig holes
for them, but you don't really need to.
On later levels you may want to time things so you dig the UL, then wait, dig
to the right, then dig below to save a bit of time, but it's not necessary
here.
Also if you like you can double dip by digging the 2 squares right of the
ladder base--that allows another way out of the box! But you may just wish
for the straightforward path.

Go right, dig 2 squares right when down the ladder to slow the enemies, then
dig L at the ladder and 1 below that. Go right and up and dig down twice to
get at what's in there. You may wish to wait around to loop by enemies that
come down randomly, as that lumps them together and creates a smoother path
once you get past them and dig the compartment above.
In there you really should wait--I got all 5 guys to lump there. Then I
climbed to the top, dug in to the platform, and waited. More guys lumped
together. Now you have to dig 1L1U and 1L of the gold below to get in the
cavern below and be able to get out. Then dig 1D1L of there. Now you can just
run to the top or go into a cavern, wait and dig out and go back up.

Gobble up all the gold on the left and the enemies should be coming. Go UR
and dig over the 2 gold and drop right and go D L to clean up there, then
back R U R. You can go to the UR where you can fall and dig into the half-
metal structure. Wait to lump the enemies then get out. Let them follow you
to the top right, where you can fake them out running left over the metal to
clear the half-metal structure. There are probably some trailing golds to get
and maybe enemies have a couple too. But because there are only 3, and you
hae 2 ways to get up, one way will be available for you. Take it. There is a
stupid false block 1 in the edge so fall through it and go to either edge for
the next-level ladder.

Digging is cool here because it can trap an enemy in the metal pit. You have
to release them, but you can clean everything else up pretty easily until
then. You cana dig into the UR, but the key stunt to pull is to get one enemy
to fall into the 1-pit next to the gold. To do that, climb up a side ladder
next to a gold and wait. Note you don't want to get 2 guys running over, or
you will have to dig one out--or you can dig to the side of him and go back
down the ladder and one will walk into the hole.
The UL gold is marginally tricky. Dig left of the ladder, wait 4 seconds, dig
below and when the top block heals, dig 1L of it. Then you can fall through.
For the last bit just release the enemies that fell into the pit. If they
have the gold, dig them up again(give them what looks like somewhere to fall
out--although they will get stuck in the block you dug and be unable to
leave,) but if not, lead them on a chase and if you want, drop them in
whatever 1-pit you can find. You can dig left of the ladder left of the pit
and fall into the pit(or, to be prudent, dig in and out, in case you didn't
quite have that last block.)

Go left, dig left and go up the ladder then dig left. You can dig again to
get the other gold and then work your way to the bottom. Dig over the one
encased gold then the other and go back up. Wait for the enemies in the UL so
that you can leave them there as you go to the right.
Getting to the right side via rope is tricky but you can just keep digging
enemies at the bottom til you do. Dig right from the center right ladder to
walk in safely. You will want to try to kick all enemies to the left. With
just one guy to fight in the center it should go quickly, but you need to
eliminate him for good so you can drop down the center for any gold that is
around. If you want you can go to the bottom, right, dig left and dig behind
so the enemy has trouble getting back up.
If the enemy forms on the right, go to the right tall ladder and 1U on it so
he runs away. You can just sneak in there by falling to the side once he's
stuck but it's a bit risky. Clearing the right is very similar to the left-
just fall right and left and dig right for the suspended gold, then dig for
others. Note if an enemy is on the right he will loop and fall to come after
you, so you can't be lazy. You may also drop enemies down the center as
you've cleared that out already. You may need to move up mid-ladder to drop
them if they are on a rope, so experiment with heights to drop your enemies.
Fall off right for the next level.

The idea for this level is straightforward but the execution may be tricky.
Drop an enemy down the center, then fall on him and get one gold and repeat.
Timing is not too bad but there is the risk of fatigue. Just drop down when
he is right above the chute--sooner rather than later if you must err as
there's a small chance 2 guys will drop--wait if a guy falls 2R of you--then
drop on the guy. You want to keep the enemies on the right for that bit.
The first 2 guys present no problem to drop. Once you drop the second guy
down you can fall right and run right and just make it from there, though it
may be better to fall left, sucker everyone left(so they are on the left
ladder) and go back up. You can use the level viewer pause to see if anyone
is against the left--if they are in the center ladder you may get caught.
From there you can go to the DR, let everyone climb, and loop up top. This
time it will be easier to drop two guys in one at a time and fall right. You
can easily outrun the enemies to the DR and then repeat them falling. Just be
careful after getting the last gold. Hold right as you fall, since the level
ladders will appear below to release the enemies.

Once you realize that if you dig to one side, an enemy inches towards you,
this is easy. Go up the ladder, dig right and fall and keep circling like
that until the enemy is against the edge and you can walk over him to the
next ladder. As a safety precaution, dig left before you dig right. Then you
can see when the left hole fills up and just wait to re-dig right. It
shouldn't take more than one re-dig.
Go up the right ladder and repeat the process digging to the left, then up
again and dig right a bunch. Get the gold and go either way, then up.

Drop down when one enemy is over the left top gold. Everyone will fall in.
Dig the edge of the structure and dig/fall below to clean up the edges. Stand
on the right edge and dig in to release two enemies. You can walk over them
to the left. Then dig through. Dig through the center, not releasing the left
enemies, but getting everything there. Drop the two guys on the right where
they were before. Then dig the guys on the left so they can "escape" left.
Clean up below them.
Note you can run over an enemy that is stacked on another, and when you fall,
he won't chase you.
This gets all the visible gold but some may not be visible. Stand 2U of the
bottom of a ladder and enemies will fall in the pit to chase you. Dig em up
and let em die. Get their gold and drop them back in if there's still gold to
get. Then dig the guys on the right out.

2-1 dig to get the center gold then 2-1 dig out--watch out for the chute. Get
into the left corner and dig your way out if necessary. Leave holes behind so
you can take care of the DR, where you dig right of the ladder and go down.
Don't try it all at once unless nobody's around. You may need/wish to retreat
to the DL now to circle around enemies and dig behind so you can clean the
ladder/gold area. Dig off each edge and dig down too. You can wait for guys
to lump together, then dig twice to get by them.
Go up and across the top and in the DL of this area, get the upper gold, wait
for an enemy, dig and stand on the enemy and dig right to get the gold. It
means walking a couple more squares, but your enemy is way behind you. Go up
top and right and the exit ladder should appear, but if not, zap whomever you
find in your way to see who's hiding the gold. Also if an enemy is to the
right, dig to fall off to the side and then coax him into following you.
The ladder is up the center, right in front of you if you went through as
above.

Go to the UR, 1L, wait for everyone to come over, and fall down. Then go back
up the ladder and drop on the left 1-rope. Dig right and go in, then dig and
get all the gold below, repeating until the bottom. Go up from the
ladder(chute just above) and left, then up the left edge.
If the false block were not there, you would need to dig over a falling
enemy. For the 2nd-bottom area you'd need to dig to get in, then dig the edge
and 2R of it.

Dig left immediately. Get the gold to the left and UR of that. Fall down on
the gold on the triangle.
Go to the top. Drop an enemy in the 1-pit when he is 1R of you. If the guy on
the left is distracting you, go to the bottom and dig for him and run back U
R. Now clean up the DR before continuing with the center bit. It's
symmetrical to the left. You can dig the enemy so he reappears in the left if
you want, or you can dig the enemy so he is delayed, go to the top, and wait
for both to come on the right.
The important thing is that you have two enemies on one side. Then on top of
the other guy, dig R L R R R L L L
and he gets out, and you can dig both ways if you want to avoid whichever way
the enemy below goes. Drop and go left and dig right to get by him. Drop
another guy in. Dig L R L L L R R R L to get by him then dig out whichever
way is easier. Even with a guy on the opposite side waiting, you should be
able to outrun him, but you can always drop a guy in and chuck 2 guys to the
other side.
You have to perform the digs once more. This time R L R L R L R L.

Dig as above to get the UL gold, then 1-2 dig against the ladder for what's
belos that. 2-1 dig from the left to get above the top diagonal gold, then
get the gold, dig left etc til the gold is right, then dig right, get the
gold, and do the dig left/get gold routine again.
Use a similar 2-1 dig so you can work your way down the right side and now it
is time to release the enemies. 4-3-2-1 dig into the left, dig right twice in
that area, then dig L R L to make the enemy fall out into a hole. Get all the
gold you can. Repeat, mirrored, for the enemy on the right If either one of
them grabbed gold, stand on them and move to the edge digging behind you. You
can just dig the other guy if he tries to cut you off, then keep digging
outwards. So there is little risk here.
Note if an enemy leaves gold behind you can dig left of the ropes first, then
right, then drop in and retreat. You can also retrap a guy by standing by the
ropes and then digging a hole for him, then going into the bottom corner.

Go to the left and up and left. Dig twice and go to the top. Let an enemy
drop in the hole at the top and now clear out the top diamond. Dig L R L R R.
You should be able to get all the gold in the process. A guy may sneak up to
the right but you can get to the ladder and push him back up. Go up the
ladder and to the right and drop this guy in the sole hole on top. Dig L L L
L R. Dig the other guy out and take him for his gold. Drop him in the UL and
dig L R L (R/L quickly) R and go left. Dig right and right to get out, then
lead the guy to the right.
Use him the same you did on the left, but mirror image(R L R L L, dig him
out, go DR, dig gold, back up top, R L R L/R L go right,) and once you're
done with him drop him in the top center pit and dig him L L L R R. Dig up
the other guys to make sure they've got no gold and then drop one in the very
top, digging him L L R R R. Now you can get all that gold.Now clean up the
gold in the bottom corners if you didn't already and exit up the top(long
right ladder.)

Always check which way the opponents are coming before a big dig and be sure
to line them all up on one side. Or they may squeeze you at the bottom.
Stay 1D of the top left run to lump the enemies on the right. 2-1 dig over
one suspended gold piece in the H and dig 2, drop, etc. til the bottom where
you 2-1 dig. Repeat with the other one. Then take out the u. 6-5-4-3-2-1 dig
starting with the line between the u and d. You won't always leave the left
square--you will need to leave the right to get each gold piece, but that can
be done in any order after leaving the left first. Of course you need all the
time you can get which is why you dig from the left. For d's UL gold you'll
need to go another square right.
Now stay 1D of the top rung in the UL to push everyone left. You'll have to
do this each time you have a fall-through and go right. Check for people
coming from below and if they are there, go U L and dig right and go R D.
Also note if you get pushed the other way it is really no problem--just lead
the enemies around and stay 1U/1D of the bottom/top when you can.
2-1 dig over the top of the D to get down there.
6-5-4-3-2-1 dig over each gold piece suspended in the s and o to clear those
ladderrs.
Dig 2 squares left at each run of the right ladder to gain access to the N.
From there dig the center brick, fall, repeat and 2-1 dog at the bottom.

A fun little level with a few tricks. Dig up the enemies and go right and
down and fall left. The regenerated enemies will fall into the pits on the
side.

Dig 1-2-3, get the gold above(fall on it, not from its side) and dig 4 then 5
to get that gold. The next bit is a bit tougher as it requires timely
maneuvers. First you need to dig the blocking square left and now fall
left(the falling saves just enough time) and go up the ladder, R U L fall, L
2D fall-right(another key move) and right.
The trickiest gold here in the DL is a mirror of the DR, only you dig the
blocking square, wait a second, dig 1-2-3, fall and go back. Re-dig, dig 4
and 5 and get the gold. Climb up the 1-high level ladder and you should be
able to dig your enemy. If not, retreat and you can dig him. Then go U L U.

This is a solitaire level that shares a lot in common with some late Lode
Runner levels in other versions, but it's a very weak sister sort of
similarity. Still it has some interesting puzzles especially if this is your
first Lode Runner experience. You can dig down the left side of the ladder 2
at a time to get the gold in there. Now for the tricky DR corner bit.

You need to work quickly here for the DR bit. Dig 1-3. Wait for 1 to heal.
Dig 4 and 5, then go up top and dig 6-8. Get the gold, fall left and dig 9-b.
Then dig c-e.
Another reasonably tricky part is past the single block to the left at the
bottom. Dig the block, wait 2 seconds, go up the stairs, dig 1-3. Come back,
dig again, then dig 4 and then 5. Drop for the gold and retreat.
Up the second ladder, dig the single block right, then up top dig over the
single ladder and fall right for gold, then go back left. Dig down 3 at a
time on the ladder to the left. Then go over the top, drop on the gold, and
dig right from each ladder square. Dig down to the right three times, fall in
and get the gold, and return. Now above the encased ladder, dig 1Uand 1U1R of
the top. Then dig each block to the side as you go down, but wait to dig the
last pair until the top has healed. Now run over the gold and dig and fall
through.
In the DL you have a bit of timing too. Dig 1, wait 4 seconds, dig 2-4, climb
over 1 and dig 5. Above that, dig the squares L, 2L, 2LD of the 1-ladder
below.
For the UL structure you can dig 1U, 1U1R, 1R, 1R1D of the encased ladder
nearby, as well as below it. That gets 7 gold once you dig out. Dig similarly
for the next ladder over, then dig 1U, 1U1L, 1L, 2L1D of the ladder in the
center of the structure to escape.
Go to the right edge and dog 1U, 1U1R, 1R, 1R1D of the top of the 2-ladder.

Go left, dig a guy out of the way, and let them go up. Go up, dig L, then
fall and dig R 3x more til you can dig right and fall. The enemies may
gravitate to you but you have space to dig. Now you can go over the top of
the rope lines to get the 3 gold. Go to the edge, U, UR and dig.
Then in the middle castle structure you have several trips to make. In
general the enemies should not be trouble but you want to make sure they do
not fall in the castle, so outrun them as needed.
Left gold: dig 2U, 1L1U, 1L, 1L1D and get out.
Center: dig 2U, 1U1L, 1L, 1L1D, then on the rope dig left. Repeat mirrored
for the other side of the center.
Right: dig 2U, 1U1R, 1R, 1R1D of the gold and that should do it. You should
be able to make the monsters follow you around. The right structure is a
mirror of the left. You can go up the right side and then UL to the center.

Go up the ladder for 1 gold, then fall right and go up 2U of the rope on the
right ladder. This suckers everyone L U. Go to the very top.

This is how you get the UR gold and fall for another to the right. Fall left
off the single rope. Bring 3 enemies with you as you go up the stairs. Lead
them U L then fall left when 3 are left of the structure. They will fall into
an L-gap.
Drop left and down so the monster goes 1L, then to the rope above the 2-wide.
Dig 2R/1R, fall in, dig 3-2 and then dig right to get out. Now you'll have
monsters to pass, and you don't want to kill them off the bat. So dig 1, back
up 2, and dig another. That will get you past.
Then above the bunched enemies, dig 2L and L of the top one, fall left and
dig left and run right once he falls. You'll be on a safe ledge, and they'll
have run left. Quickly you can 2-1 dig down to get the gold below, then get
out. Now you can dig your enemies up as you please. You can go UR, L, fall
left and go over to the DL where you have two trips. The first, you can 1-1
dig at the left edge of the top platforn to get to a 4-wide with a gold you
can dig over below. Next time, fall left twice, dig right, fall, dig left,
fall and dig left and get out. One more time, chipping at the right.

With this as a reference, the best way to get going is to clear out the
bottom stuff first. Go left, get what you can, and come back right to get the
6 golds there and the two on the ladder. Then go to the right side and snake
your way up, getting the golds left you can. Dig over the last gold square
you got and fall left. You'll go left and fall through some false bricks. Dig
right and go back up top and dig over the next gold over. This drops you
through three false bricks.
Get the 2 golds above the cement. each right gold and dig down. Then go back
up top and dig over the right gold there. There are 6 golds to the left but
there may be enemies to fake out, too, so do that. Also get the 2 gold below
and the 2 gold to the left over the cement. Climb U L U R U tp the tp[ where
ypu can clean up, then go down the right ladder and get the gold to the
right, then go 2U 2L and back.
Dig over the right of the two golds in the center--false brick below it.
There are 2 pairs of gold to the left, one on top of the next, with no
chutes. Go left for another gold pair and dig left, then dig right to save a
bit of time and get back into the main looping area. Go across to the UR. Be
sure to dig your enemies once to make sure they've got no gold. There are no
chutes under th efinl four bricks and no enemies should be around either.

This or something like it was a Championship Lode Runner level. What you want
to do is stand at the right of the bottom and stand there. Guys will come
over and fall in the pit. Go right. 3-2-1 to drop on the 1-ladder to the
right, then dig left and fall in. Dig right when on the rope, drop and dig
right, etc. There's a small risk you'll fall down 2 ropes if you push down,
so you can just fall right and go left. At the final dig you will have access
to two gold pieces. Mirror image for the left side. Now 4-3-2-1 dig to next
to one of the 1-ropes(near the structure center) and dig to the side, drop,
etc. You'll get the gold in the center.
Now for the left. Dig the 3 squares left of the enemies and go DL. Move up
once you get them to move over(otherwise all 4 will get killed) and when
they're gone, dig the final guy out. Hold button 1 and left.
Go to the ledge above. Wait and dig left and go down to 2U of the ladder
bottom. He'll turn right and you can get the gold when you walk over him
after he falls in the pit. Dig right over him and run left. Now repeat for
the other three ledges, though stay 1U of the next ledge below instead of
near the ladder bottom--and you may need to bring the one enemy over for the
final long dig, or at least delay your digging near the end or bring him over
by going DL in the middle of digging. Note other enemies may fall in the pit
but you can dispose of them as before to make sure you only fight one guy at
a time.
Oh and don't fall right onto the guy at the top because enemies may be below
him, then you're screwed. All you have to do is wait at the bottom or dig
some enemies so they die(ie 4 holes, then go DL) then wait. Then you can walk
across them.
Note--I had a banana appear on the right of the third ledge after I got the
last gold. If you want, get the points, but I didn't bother.

Go right and up and 2L. Dig right when the enemy gets near and go 2R and down
the ladder parallel with the purple blocks to the left. He falls in the hole
and now you can get the gold to the left. Go back up the right ladder,
release the enemy and, when he falls, fall after him and dig to get to the
long platform below. Fall left and when he's near, dig right. Trap him in as
before.
Go to the UR and dig 1R of the top gold, get the gold, dig left again, and
repeat until you can dig right and fall over the golds below. Get them and
dig. Go back to the UR and now dig left/drop to the bottom. Make sure the
enemy is on the left edge, then drop left and go up the ladder. Dig left to
get around him, go to the UL, go 3R, dig left and go 3D or so. He'll run
right. Run on top of him and now when he falls you want to dig left then
right. Fall left and dig left then right. The enemy runs right, so you should
run left and dig right immediately. You should be able to climb up the ladder
that appears with no problem now.

Run right for gold. Let the guy fall. Go to the UR and 3-2-1 dig left of the
solitary gold to get it. Go back to the UL and fall off the ladder. Fall onto
the gold and fall right quickly, get on the ladder and go U R and you will
just miss the enemy. Go to the UR and fall left again. You can do a similar
sneak-under for the left, where you should also wait at the left edge to drop
for a gold, then go right and wait for enemies to fall after you before going
up. 3-2-1 dig from the left to get the entombed gold. Then go R from the UL
to find the ladder.

You may have a bit of trouble coming in from the left, as an enemy may stick
at the top, but you can fall down with him 2R of you and a block 1R, or you
can just go UR and back left for the stairs.

Cool pirate ship level here with the flags popping up once you finish. 3-1
dig to get next to the gold in the UL of the ship(and sink the enemy too) and
then go back to the UL. Next time dig him up and use the time to drop to get
gold. Killing him doesn't help as he will just regenerate around where you
were, and if he gets to the outside, you may have no way out for some other
gold you need to get.
You can pretty much fake him out for any gold you need to pick off and fall
on--he's much too slow. Or just dig to get him out of the way for a bit.
Now to get the entombed golds on the right. Go to the edge of a rope and lean
off its edge. Drop right when the enemy almost touches you, and he will fall
down so you can run on him and dig right quickly. Drop and dig right and now
you can get everything. Dig the right edge to get out and now return.
Dig right when you drop right, then dig behind, then dig 7-6-5-4-3 , starting
above the top visible gold and working your way down, digging left right left
left. At that gold you can then dig 3 right to get the gold right of it.
Then just dig the guy out of the way and go up.

Another one Lode Runner fans have seen before. Go UL and R and drop down. Dig
the guy to get his gold, and dig again and fall left to get around him. Stand
on the center ladder and enemies will be on the right edge. Dig so they'll
come up to you--you should run to get the gold too as you have the time. You
should be able to sucker one over where you can dig him and leave him behind.
Go R U L and dig the enemy to the left out--you may need to dig twice--and
leave him behind as you did the others. You have one more trip to get a gold
piece. Once you get it, go back left immediately and climb up. The enemies
below you seem rather stupid as they don't go for you right away, so use that
to your advantage.

Wait, because you don't have the time to dig both guys coming down after you.
Dig left, climb over and dig left. Go U R and dig as little as you can to
advance. You can only afford to kill off two enemies before this level
becomes impossible as they behave weirdly--guarding the level ladder.
Fortunately if you kill exactly two, it is not too taxing.
So when reading these instructions, if you find enemies getting to close,
just make a break for the bottom then go 1U of the DR, then go down for
enemies to follow you and run back up and continue as you were. It's probably
a bad idea to dig even once to slow enemies down if only two are left.
They're pretty dumb and usually that's ok but here it isn't.
Get to the right and go 1D the ladder. Enemies will go off left. Go to the
bottom. They will circle L D R. Run past them. You should be able to go all
the way up with few impediments. One level has 2 gold on the left and 1 on
the right, with ladders in the center. Ignore those golds as you have to drop
on them--take care of them last or, if you have the time and space, drop on
them if you can goad the enemies over. Start on the left, go back right then
left. Also ignore the UL gold. And if enemies are too close behind don't get
the gold on the cement to the left. Otherwise, run up and clear what you can.
It's worth it to try to fall through the chutes to get the gold on top of
them as you go down, if you must.
Also, when you get near the top and get the final gold, if enemies are too
close behind, bring them down a few levels. Then go back up. Because you need
to wait left of the final platform to draw enemies over, then go 1U so they
go far enough right for you to make 2 digs right.

You need your enemies, here. Basically you drop them in a hole, dig them out,
and repeat as necessary. But it is tricky to figure out who to dig where. At
first just get rid of as many as you can. With only one running around,
things are pretty easy, though you will want to note if anyone took a gold as
he fell--all tips of U's should have gold on them, and if not, you'll need to
dig the guy who took it out. Now for these instructions, if an enemy is in
the path I've given you, you will want to dig him out first, or not dig an
enemy you normally would. There's no way to get an enemy trapped for good
where you can't win the level.
Stand 1 to the side of the center of the top U of the middle range and let
the enemy drop in,ie drop when he's over the pit. Dig right when on him, then
run left--or run on top of him if you are so inclined. Repeat 3 times, but
don't get anxious and run over before he fell in. Now you can leave him to
fester to make things less complicated later, but then you'll need to free
another enemy with a similar motion.
Drop another guy in the same place. Dig him to the right. Then dig the 2
squares to the left after he falls. Do the serial dig right thing again.
Leave him in the bottom if you want.
Drop another guy in the 2nd-left U. Dig him right, then dig him 2L so he
drops down. Dig him left to clear out that bottom section of U's. Fall on the
leftmost U. Then drop a guy in the top U. Dig him right and you can run over
him to get the gold to the right, cutting down your work later. You'll have
to walk over him after digging left, then dig 2R. If you are clever you can
run over him to the right to get a tricky gold.
Or you can just drop a guy in the top U of the middle range and dig your way
L L back 2R. That should do it, but if not, try unearthing enemies from their
pits. If one is in the bottom range, then you may need to drop an enemy in a
top U and dig R the 2L on the ledge below, or something. You can release that
enemy and the one you're getting to with a late 2L dig and then if you run
right, you can dig the other guy out.
On solving this the other 4 guys come in and stand around and look at you.
You're running through the stars at the screen then the credits roll and the
other 4 guys join you. Then you get the next 50 levels!

Dig the 3 guys til they're killed, and they should regenerate in the hole to
the UR. If they appear somewhere else, dig 1R, fall, dig 1R, fall, then 2R 2R
and 1R to get on the platform below. Then take the long loop UL.
But you should be able to walk across the enemies and get to the DL the short
way. When you do, dig over the ladder and go down through the chute under
the ladder. Get the gold, dig the edge, drop and get the gold. 2-1 dig the
center. Work down to get all the gold.
Walk over the enemies and dig down to the rope. Drop and dig left after
getting the gold. Dig out and get the DR gold. When nobody's bugging you dig
down the left ladder 3x, then dig the bottom bit when the top heals. You can
in-betwen move to dig any enemy below--that's a better way to wait than most,
in fact. Then dig 3-2-1 left of the single rope, by the ladder, to get to the

When you fall down, go left when on level with the cement. Dig right of the
stairs twice for gold, then get the gold and drop down. Go right and up the
big ladder, Dig and go down continually. At the bottom, dig left, then go up
top and dig over the gold column. Go back up and dig right over the first
column, then wait and dig left of the left rope, 2R, dig left, fall right and
go up the ladder and fall left. If you can't do it in time, go UR and 2-1 dig
over the gold column below--it just takes a bit longer.
Now at the center rope, drop on the right side and dig down 3 times, then
fall right. Go back to the top and dig 4 times over the other gold column.
Note you have to go up the big ladder and right.
Dig over the right of the gold in the UL and then move left. The level
ladders will appear, and it's important you got this last as now you can exit

Whoah, that's a pretty big skull, Beavis! Uh, I mean, Butt-Head. What you do
first inside it is critical. Go to the UL and 3-2-1 dig down(or 1-2-1 using
the ropes) and land on the enemy. Go 2L and dig right and let him escape.
When he climbs up, leave and fall below--wait for the enemies on the ladder
UL to fall so you have a clear path--and repeat for the right. You need the
trapped guy on the right not to move.
Now 3-2-1 dig on the top to get a suspended gold, then 2-1 dig to get the 2
in the center, and dig below to get 6 gold. Dig your way out and go to the
base of a ladder. 2 guys will drop, and the bottom one takes just enough time
to get his bearings so the other one falls and you can sneak in. Go back up
top and get the other suspended gold, but this time 2-1 dig to the edge so
you fall on a single gold. Then get the other single gold. Enemies should be
easier to avoid these times as you are tearing right through. You can wait
for them to get near the top to make sure, but it's not necessary.

Another level from an old Lode Runner. Go to the UR and then 3-2-1 dig from
there to get on a 2-ladder where you can go down, dig, etc. You'll switch
ladders several times working your way down. Eventually you'll get to where
the gold is, when you can just pick it up and dig right to get out.
Now bring the enemy over and drop so he is just left of the cements. He will
fall in to that area, and now you can lure him left by going DL. This part is
a bit annoying as he may not take the gold right away--I seem to have good
luck letting him land on the gold so he has lots of chances to think about if
he wants to take it. If not, go to the DR(where you need to dig as before for
him to "see" you, back DL, etc.
Do the 3-2-1 dig on the UL as before and when you dig 1L of the enemy, go to
the DL and he should run over without releasing the gold. If not, you have to
do it all over again.
Once he is gobbled up by the blocks when he has the chest, you can advance.
I'd recommend not watching the gory details. I'm not squeamish, just
impatient, because going to the UL lets you leave ASAP when the ladders
appear.

Dig guys up when you can. You want them to fall into the chute gaps at the
top. Once one does, clear his area out. Note that if guys fall where you
don't want and get stuck, you can dig to get them out by digging 1L/1R and
above. While it's safer not to have so many enemies around, it'll take longer
if you decide to stick some for good. Fortunately it's your choice if you
choose to release an enemy once he's served his purpose.
center left/right: fall on the guy and dig him out. Then fall next to him,
get the gold and run away, and fall on him again. You can leave him there.
right: fall on the guy, get the gold, dig 1R of him. Repeat, then dig away
from him so he is stuck there for good.

This level looks intimidating but is actually very repetitive. To the right,
stand on the 1-ladder and dig L/R. Go 1D, dig L/R, etc., getting gold as you
go, and leaving the bottom to walk back across. Go to the UR, and dig 2L then
R at the rope, drop, repeat etc. Again don't dig at the bottom and get gold
as you go. Then go up the long right ladder and drop right, then climb up. Go
to the UL and repeat the dig L/R, get the gold, and go to the bottom of the
zigzag stairs then back up.
For the final bit just drop down for the gold. Don't fall down the ladder,
but when the enemies are as high as they go, go 1U the center ladder and the
enemy will go right. Go all the way up and two enemies will lump together to
the right. Now you can go down and they will fall down, allowing you free
passage up. You need to go UL and fall right to get to the level ladder.

Run right, and you should be able to run left/dig right 5 times. Run up the
ladder 1 and back down. Be happy just trapping 2 guys as if you get greedy
enemies will walk across the healing blocks and trap you on the ladder. Keep
digging until enemies are in the left U and the right. Once that happens you
can walk across them and drop down the ropes, getting the gold on each side
as you go down. Note which gold is missing--an enemy took them.
You may need to release enemies who got gold, but it is no problem to kill
them off and claim the loot. Even if you forgot who had what, you can just
check them one at a time after releasing them from the U's they are in. Get
the ones in the center first. And of course once an enemy is checked off he
can rot in any hole you dropped him in.

Go right, dig your enemy up(but not in the center) and 4-3-2-1 dig down, then
dig and fall right. Go back to the UR and dig the enemies and walk over them.
If you are timely, they will go to the DR and be irrelevant. Then 2-2 dig to
the right at the bottom to get the gold in the DR. Dig left on the bottom if
you see anyone.
Now you should be able to clean out the other gold pretty easily. Go up the
left ladder, fall right and dig right. Go up the left ladder and get the
enemy to follow you closely. Stand over the UR gold and drop down so he goes
down the chute in the center, then drop on him and get the gold UR and DR.
You may have to dig enemies to get to the UR level ladder.

The key to this level is lining up your enemies so that they don't trap you
coming from both sides. But it doesn't hurt to get a quick start, either. R U
R and dig to get to the 2 golds, then dig left to get out. Walk back UL and
dig 1U1L, 1L of the gold. Drop left when it's safe, dig whoever follows, go
to the top drop left and work there.
On the left, you can go next to the 1-rope to make everyone go right. In fact
they will all fall off to the right if you wait long enough. This leaves you
a free hand for the last bit. 2-1 dig the near block. Same in the UL, then
faoo through and dig 1U1R of the gold, drop right and dig left. Go up the
left ladders and fall left.

UR: stand right of the guy, 3-2-1 dig over the embedded gold, and dig out
before he can get to you.
UL: Dig down the left side, then fall through. Drop from the rope down the
chute, go 1R1L and dig right. Then clear the gold right and go L U L and get
the gold right--but not the far right. Another chute there, so take the rope
to drop on it while the enemy is going up the ladder. He won't be a factor.
DL: let the guy out, then go to the center across the top and dig so the guy
is trapped. Make sure he regenerates elsewhere and then dig 2 down from the
left to get in the DL, get the gold, dig, get more gold, dig, etc. to the
bottom.
DR: stand 2U of the DR if the enemy is on the right. That will scare him
away. Then dig-down left three times to trap the enemy. Go 1R of him and be
ready to dig down when he gets out. Then dig down one more and if he gets
trapped, you can run in and get some gold and run out. Don't try to get all
the gold.
If he doesn't get trapped, just lead him and his friend over to the left then
dig in to get the gold, then get out. Beware of regenerating enemies of
course. The ladders are on the edges.

The tricky but quick start: go left, get the gold, then go right and dig,
stand over the guy and dig right, and repeat twice. You can also just dig the
enemies so they die, then go up the right ladder. Be sure to get the
incidental golds as you go up in either case

probably have to dig with abandon to get guys out of the way.

Dig a couple guys after running to the right. Make sure they are on the right
to stay, then go left and down. Enemies will follow you there--a couple
should be enough. Then you can dig them, run past and go up to 2-1 dig into
the UR, then 2-1 dig to the DR. Dig whoever's on the right and get out. You
can probably get by 3 such guys but there is only space for 3 holes, so you
do need to bring some enemies over.

This is one of those semi-subjective levels where you need to just wiggle
around a bit and see what works. But there is an easy start--just sit and
wait. That will lump two pairs of enemies together in chutes. Go down so that
they start to follow you. Then go back up and when they go up the ladder,
fall right through the chutes. Zigzag down for the DL gold. Then run right.
Wait for the 2 enemies to the right to fall to catch you and circle over
them. The 5th guy may cut you off, but you can drop back to a chute and drop
down. You should also be picking up gold at the top of the ladders when you
ca. When you make it to the DR you should be able to get the gold just UL,
and that should do it.
If that sweep doesn't get everything, try digging enemies up or leading them
to the top, dropping down, and digging more enemies up at the bottom.
Remember to keep any enemies to the right of you at arm's length and you
should be okay, and make them loop around and chase you to get them far
behind.

This level has a pretty straightforward solution despite the numerous cement
blocks. Run all the way right, then back left. Dig left when a guy is 2R of
you then fall. Go right and back left to the edge. Dig down. Repeat once
more, but first dig right so a guy falls in, then wait for another guy to get
close. This gives you the split second you need to get around an enemy. That
should get you all the gold except the ones enemies are holding. To shake
them down you can just go to the top again and dig right to trap guys one at
a time(they should be spaced out better now,) then dig left if someone left
his gold behind. If you have to go down to get gold or escape from guys, you
can stand 1U of the DR to lump the enemies together, then go 1U L and sucker
them as before.

A funny and quick level. Push right. When a guy to the right falls below you,
push right again to get to the next ledge. Repeat and fall right when there's
nothing to the right but space. Run right and wait at the bottom of the
ladder. Dig left when everyone is down and close, then slowly work your way
up the right ladder. Go off to the left and wait for people to join you. Then
walk up and right and you should get all the gold as you walk across the
enemies. If 6 people followed you, you should be able to make it across them
and climb up the stairs which take a half-second to appear. The stairs are
just right of the last gold.

Go to the top and right and dig/fall right. At the bottom, dig twice to get
the gold in the tunnel. Go back up the rope, then dig right and fall 3 times,

each side as you work down the suspended ladder, getting all gold as you go.
Go to the ladder to the left, dig, 1D, dig and wait for the upper hole to
heal. Dig right. Loop over, dig over the 4 gold, then dig left. Dig L 2R at
the ladder, go 1D and repeat to get the gold to the right.
Go up the main ladder, then 1-2-3-3 dig and when the 3-row above starts to
fill, dig the left one below. Then go up top, dig left and fall, etc. Fall on
the middle square and drop and dig your way out onto the rope. Go left and 1-
2-3-3-1 dig to get to the chamber with two golds. Dig out and go to the top.
Dig L, 1D, dig left. Now get the gold and dig below where it was. Repeat til
you need to dig right. Do so, then dig left til you get to the ladder. 1-2-3-
4 dig to get out of the mess. Dig the 1&3 below.
Now you need to get back to the other side. 1-2-2-2-1 dig from the center
ladder to get to the rope. For your first trick, dig left of the rope then
work your way down from that to net two golds. Then go back left and up the
stairs to the left. Dig L, 1D, dig left and again dig left and fall, then dig
back right and fall til you're next to the 2-ladder. Dig left, fall, dig
right, fall, dig right and fall. Back left. Just one more time now. Go to the
UL and dig the three blocks at the top right to left. Get the gold and fall

I really hate this level, since you have to use one stupid counterintuitive
unaesthetic trick over and over again.
Wait for the guy to fall down next to you. Then climb on him. Dig left and
right, left and right and fall left when he is going up, go under him and dig
left. Drop left and dig right. When he falls in, go 2R U and dig right. If
you did it right, he will wind up going left and you can walk over him as he
bobs to get the gold. Then you can walk over the guy on the edge.
Now to bring the guy right. Dig left, go down and as he follows you up, dig
right and fall right. Go right and dig left. When he falls in, 2L U and dig
left to make sure you are exactly 1U. He will go to the right. Move him
right once more.
Now dig left and he will go up and left. Sneak down and dig left when he is
close, go left and dig right. The guys to the right won't "see" you. Walk
back over to the left. You may have to push a guy over, but in any case you
need to get the DL and it is tricky. Dig right, 1D, dig right and he falls
in. 2R 2D dig left, 2U 2L fall and climb back as you were, in the middle of
the ladder. The enemy goes back right. Now repeat this process moving the
enemy right.
Now the DR is the toughest part--you'll probably want to kill an enemy if he
is to the left(basically mess up your usual move). Dig both ways when UL of
the enemies, waiting 3 seconds after digging #1, then dig left and go left
and dig right. Fall left and go up the stairs and repeat til someone gets
killed. Now the one enemy is much more manageable--deal with him as before
for the suspended golds.
If you are unlucky you may have to go every which way and kill enemies. That
means you need to drag one enemy over and kill him when he is next to
another, and if he re appears over one enemy you need to dig another guy up
right away, or if he appears over you you need to "mess up" moving an enemy
around.
I had a bug here where I got ladders with 1 gold left on the board. Not the
sort one complains about I'd guess.

Another ex-Championship Lode Runner special. Dig right. R D R and dig behind
you. Up the stairs and dig down 4 times, then dig 3R and 1L. Go in to get the
gold and get out. If the enemy comes by you have time to dig him before
things re-form.
Next, dig 3 down at the 3-stair above the gold, wait and when the top hole
fills in, dig the final hole to the right. Then go back up and dig the other
three holes. Drop in on the gold. Now you can walk back when the first brick
reforms.
Dig down left twice from the ladder where you started. Then dig down left
from the 1-ladder. L U and dig down twice to get to the left area. The enemy
you killed probably wound up in the pit left of one gold, making it easier
for you to get that one. From the left stair, dig down three times(four if
the enemy isn't in the pit.) Wait for the top to fill and dig below that. 2-
dig down from the next ladder up, then dig over the gold and fall to get it.
Go across the rope and dig right to drop in a new area. Dig right and drop
right. Dig left, 1D, dig left. Go down the other 2-ladder and dig 1R, loop U
R and dig right, then dig left at the 1-ladder. Dig right below that, get the
gold and fall through the hole you dug to get back to the main left.
Dig down to the 2nd 2-ladder as before, but this time fall left and dig left.
2L, dig left, then go down the ladder digging left 3 times. Then dig
right/down twice to release the enemy. He will give up the final gold piece,
and you can go up the ladders you see to advance.

Get the UL gold. Dig under where it was. Release the enemy and go 1L of the
bottom pit. Dig when he gets near. Then go L D down the ladder so he falls in
the pit. Get the gold and release him, then lead him up to the top of the
zigzag ladders. When he is 2R, dig and go right so you can dig him left. Go
1L1D of him and wait. He will go and fall right. Follow and walk over him.
Fall down the right column of gold then dig below it and go left and dig
below that to reveal the DR golds, which you can fall on. Go up the right
ladder, dig down as you go left of it, and get the gold inside. Go back right
and dig 2D more and get the other gold. Dig the 2 squares left of the 1-
ladder at the very top, then go left and dig over the gold you can drop on.
Do so, get the gold to the left after you fall again, and then get out UR.

Lead them up the UL then dig a hole so they'll follow you into the long pit.
Do it before one gets to the ladder. Then dig out at the right edge when they
get close to you. Now you just have a game of solitaire.
From the 2 ladder on the right, dig 2R R, drop, wait 4 seconds, dig 2R R and
go up and dig 2R R. Fall down and go left and fall right and go up the
stairs. Walk over the blocks once they heal. You can dig down similarly to
get the left suspended gold but the right is trickier. You need the help of
one of your enemies. So dig 5 holes below the pit once they're let out and
they get close, then wait. Back right and drop and dig left for the guy who
isn't out. If you kill too many, no problem--you can try again.
Get the enemy to fall in the DL. The easiest way is if he drops from the top
and goes to the left. then you can fall when he is next to you, and he will
fall. You can also dig at the left edge and go right and 1D at the ladder.
Now dig down to the right from the left ladder, then dig the two squares to
the right. You may wish to wait a half-second before dropping right, but when
the enemy goes right off th ebottom ladder, dig right, go left (x3) and go up
the stairs. The enemy should follow you through, and you can dig over the
gold and fall onto it. The boxes will have healed now, leaving the enemy cut
off from you. You should be able to sneak past him to dig 2R at the top and
run by the enemies.

Wow! This is a record for number of enemies! Let the enemies fall to the side
of you and then circle to the top. Fall down to get 2 gold. Go to the far
right and again fall when enemies get close. Go to the far left to outrun the
enemies and they will come up after you. More waiting. Then you can move to
the rightmost and get what's there, then back left and so forth. One problem
will probably occur when enemies take a gold they go by and don't release it,
but they should release it as they walk up the stairs. It's best to drop when
an enemy is 1/2 way up the stairs next to you as he can't reach over either
way. The key here is patience and the willingness to outrun your enemies a
few times across the board. You may need a few extras to shake out that final
gold.

at the ladder below. Go over the 1-ladder, dig over the suspended gold, dig
and get the next gold, then get out to the left. You'll just make it.
Dig right onto the rope. Dig right and go right, dig left and fall on the
gold. Dig left of the lower rope, then fall left and right. Dig right to
fall, then dig right on the 1-ladder. Get the gold and dig over the next gold
below. Fall left then right. Get the gold as you go up and then go left
across the ropes, digging right. Fall for the gold, go up the ladder and dig
right as you go down it. Then from the right dig 1U1L, 1U, 1L and 1L1D of the
1-ladder DR of there.
Go across the top ropes, fall left and dig left. From the rope below, dig
left, drop, dig 3L, then dig R from the ladder, go down and dig right. Go up
and fall left for the gold. Dig and fall onto the 1-rope after getting the
other gold. This next part must be done quickly. Dig left, get the gold to
the right, then dig over the suspended gold. Go back UL and dig left so you
can get the gold and get back to under the rope.
Now for the last part, which requires exact timing, you can proceed in 3
tries
1. dig left and get the one gold you can and come back
2. when the block heals, dig L and LD of the top of the left stairs, come
back, wait a half-second(this way the top block will heal before you need to
cross it)
3. re-dig and now dig the other two blocks to the left. Be sure to fall left
after your re-dig. You need all the extra time you can get.
A stair should appear to the right once you have all the gold to get you out

It doesn't look like you can work your way up and down this zipper lock
level, but you can--it takes a bit of patience.
Dig left down 3 times and get rid of the enemies there. Get the gold below
too. Then go down the left middle ladder, getting all gold you can dig for
immediately to each side i.e. if you can get it with a long dig down, take
the time to do so.. Once you have, dig down the left to get to the DL ladder.
Kill any monsters that might get in your way as you work through this. The
real key is getting the enemies out of the DL. Dig down to release the
enemies then let them come up the ladder after you and fall right to get past
them and dig behind. Take out all the gold available.
Now you need to get to the top and work down the right. Getting back up is
not bad. 3 digs down should get you to the next ladder up. You should be able
to pot a bunch of bad guys and then go to the UL-1D to move them right, and
then when enough are on the right edge, you can dig right down the center.
Same rules as before--take what you can get, break to the DR ladder, and jump
over the guys you freed.
The way up shouldn't be too bad. There may be guys guarding the UR but you
can pick them off 1 at a time. Dig down from your ladder, go up and fall
right. Dig a bunch. Eventually enemies will regenerate so they go down the
left or center. You will win easily then.

Go left, dig your way down left, and dig right at the bottom to get out.
Climb to the UR and then fall down the left of the DR chutes when enemies are
close. The enemies should follow, allowing you to clear out the 2nd-right
such path. Then you can clear out the final one. For this you can actually
retreat back UL and you may need to as the enemies will shield the DR. But
you should be able to get everyone to come to the UR--if they don't, you can
drop down and come back up and whoever didn't make it will come around. Also
if they fall into the UL diamond that's OK as you can shake them out.
Mop up work: you'll want to clear the left of the UL diamond and the right,
too. Then ideally you'll want to make sure nobody has any gold before
continuing further, and it is useful to take the DR for that if, say, 3 guys
are coming around. Squares are a bit scarce but you can also dig at the top
when enemies are near and track them that way.
Now drop someone into the UL--just wait and then climb down to the second
cement on the right when someone gets near to the left. They go back 1R so
take that into account in your calculations. You need one enemy in the 1-pit
and 1 right of that. Make sure nobody's on the left(circle them around in the
UR if they are) and then you can stand 1U1R of the pit and the other enemy
will fall through the chutes below the top stairs. That will allow you to
walk over him after you follow him. There's another chute to the right as you
go down and you can use that to get out. The best way to loop around any
remaining enemies is to go along the top passage UL and stay 2D of the top.
They'll fall down a gradient they can't get back up.

Go down the center first. Dig 2L and 2R of the main center rope, drop down 1,
dig L of the left ladder twice to make a new passage, then R of the R ladder.
Go down the next left ladder, get the gold and dig 2R. Go down the right one,
get the gold and dig 2L. Lots of opportunities to fall off ladders and save
time and while you don't strictly need them, taking them makes it much
easier. Now you can dig 4 blocks in the center below, twice, then make a 4-3-
2-1 dig down the center to the bottom. Kill the enemies that come your way on
each side. Make sure they regenerate somewhere harmless i.e. they don't run
down the sides at you. You can help this by standing up the ladder once you
know enemies are trapped--they seem to fall that way instead of taking the
ropes.
Now you should be able to dig into a pit--if there are enemies in, no big
deal, just dig from the rope and they will loop around and get caught. Let's
look at the right pit.

Another loan from Championship Lode Runner, and a pretty good level.
Dig right, then dig 3D right of the center ladder after waiting a couple
seconds. Dig left when under the suspended gold and get out. Go up the ladder
a rung. The enemy is trapped and will drop in the pit. The enemies will come
at you from both sides but you can dig 2 on each side and go to one edge
where you can pick off a lot of gold by dropping. However, you should do it
in a certain order. Get 2 guys down the right, then you have a little detour,
then 2 guys down the left.
You can just dig guys up a bunch of times to get a lot more of the side gold
without hassle, then drop down off the sides near the bottom. You always want
to be able to deal with just one enemy at some point--drop another in the
right block and then two in the left as you did for the original. Dropping to
the bottom so enemies will come after you is a good idea, and even if they
pick up gold it's no big deal. You don't want to walk across the bottom right
away unless you really have clear passage i.e. nobody will drop to trap you
from each side. If all but one guy is at the bottom and the other is on the
center ladder, then you are in a good position.
The best place to get monsters after you is left of the row of concrete
blocks. Once they are on the left, climb down the ladder and go back up. You
can also use the fact that monsters will go to the nearest stair--thus, you
can sucker a bunch of them left and dig so only one is in a hole that will
send him down the center, and you can work from there.
With 2 guys down the right, you need to sucker everyone to the top center and
dig holes for them as near the center as possible. Dig over the suspended
gold on the left and fall in. Go 1R and dig left, fall and dig left. Get all
the gold below and dig on the ladders and get that, too. If you did things
right the enemies will probably be all down the center ladder, but in the
worst case you will probably have one guy wandering around. That is okay--you
can avoid him. Two on opposite sides, of course, spell doom.
For the remaining 2 guys to put in the pits you can probably drop 2 of 3 guys
and then outmaneuver the final one in the center. The next one should be even
easier. Remember staying partway up the ladder will repel the enemies to the
side, but watch out for if you kill one and it regenerates near the center.
It's better to scrap plans and try again to dissemble the enemies than to get
impatient and risk.

Go up the left side and be parallel to when there is a block to the right.
You may have to go 1U more--but wiggle around there until the enemy above
goes back up. Scroll the screen to make sure he falls in a hole. Then go to
the top. If the guy on the right hasn't fallen in, just stand below the rope.
Dig 1U1R of the left guy, then 1R of him. He will fall twice. Walk right
behind, then on him so that you get the first gold that was DR of him and
then, when he falls the second time, you can run to the center to get gold.
Then dig left. Drop and dig right. He will fall twice. Follow again. Get the
right gold, dig left and walk left on the guy. Again walk over him as he
falls so you can go to the center and get more gold. Dig left, get the gold
and dig your way out. He may have some gold so you may wish to go 1U on the
stairs and back down until he releases it. There's no good place to dig other
than if you take him counterclockwise to the UL and drop when he is 2L of the
center, then dig right, 1D, dig right, fall right and dig. Go up the ladder
and right and fall down when he is over the left pit to put him back where he
was.
Now repeat, mirrored, for the right guy, but you don't need to go to the
center so aggressively. You can let him drop down the side--just be sure to
walk over him--then dig left when at the edge, then walk over him after the
next dig right. Again you may have to shake him down for a gold. The ladders
will let the enemies out of their pits, but you should be able to shake them
off easily enough as long as 1) they are both on one side or 2) you are near
the top anyway. To ensure this you can drop one guy on the other in the pit
before getting the final gold, if it was left at the bottom.

Lots of tricks here and some relying on chance from what I can see at least.
Dig the single block you are standing over and drop on each suspended gold.
You may need to shoo the enemy a bit. If so go 1U on the ladder. Now let the
block reform, dig it and dig 1R of the right end of the rope. The enemy will
fall in if you wait in the DL, so after that, go on to the right edge of the
rope and drop on him. Pow.
Here's the subjective part. You need to kill the 2 guys behind the wall. Dig
left from the rope, fall and dig left. Then dig left from the ladder, down
and dig left. If you stand on the upper rung of the ladder you may be able to
get them both. Be sure once you do to make a run for the DL as that way
anyone who reappears may fall left if he is in the right--you want that. He
will plug a hole in the DR. At any rate if/when only one reappears on the
right, go up the zigzag and get what gold you can. Note where the enemy fell
on the right.
If he did not fall to the UR, you can fall back to the bottom and make sure
he does too. Otherwise, dig when the enemy goes down the first ladder. You'll
want to kick him right. Worst case, he appears on the long ladder, in which
case you can afford to kill off one of the enemies that are in the DR there.
Dig through to the DL rope and drop down. Let someone fall in a hole 1R of
the solid block guarding the DL and toggle up/down to kill him.
With all enemies cleared(assuming one of the blockers went to the DR,) dig
down the long ladder, getting the gold to the right. Fall right at the 1-rope
and fall down on the gold.
Now if 2 guys go into the UR then you have an interesting problem. There's a
small possibility both will go to the very UR, then fall into the hole on the
right, which makes the level impossible, but I think you may be able to tip
them over by going to the top. At any rate you must deal with the guy in the
DR.
When you get to the bottom, dig so he can go right, then sucker him right and
fall right off the rop for him to plug the gap.
And whoever falls in the DR pit, dig 1R of it and go DR and he'll get chewed
up with the gold chest he has. That takes care of that. Get the gold to the
left, dig the 2 squares L of the ladder rungs, and get the gold DR. Dig out.
Up the DR ladder, dig left, wait, then dig DL and D of it, then 2D. Dig
between the ropes for gold.
Now dig left at the left rope and 1L, dig left.
Dig right over the right enemy, then dig left to let the left enemy out, and
he will push you up onto the gold. Fall right into the last bit. Stand right
of the UR brick to get rid of enemies. Dig the top 2 bricks in the UR. Wait
til the top heals. On the left cement at the top, dig left and right. Fall
right. Go UL and ladders appear.

A tedious level requiring a lot of detail work. first you can get a lot of
gold without enemy help, but you'll need one enemy for each of the 2nd-bottom
golds. In the UR, dig 2-1 to the left and then get the gold and dig 1L. Dig
left under the first rope, then right, to get some gold, then dig left under
the next rope then right. Also, 2-1 dig to get the gold on the top too.
You may need to reverse your enemies by going to the left, digging at the
top, and digging right. If so, just mirror what you did on the right. You
don't want to stick anyone in a hole yet because you'll just have to get them
out.
If someone does get stuck, don't release him yet--leave him there until
you've cleared all you can without releasing him. 2-1 dig over the top row of
golds to get each, then dig 1 out below.
Now to get a 2nd-lowest gold, wnat you need to do is dig 2-1 left or right of
it with a monster in the compartment above. Fall on the monster and dig to
the side while he is still in the air. Then dig to the side again, and you
can fall on the enemy as he goes through the gold. Note you must either dig
or run to the side, or you will be above the enemy with no way out. Get the
gold and dig to the enemy's side and watch him fall out.
Yes, you have to do this ten times. For the center gold you need a bit of
luck for a guy to fall in the center--or you can alternatively dig one guy
near the center and run back to the edge and he will fall inwards.
With some luck however enemies will fall in the right places and you can dig
them up as needed. You can dig out 2 enemies that fall in a hole the same way
as 1. You don't have to dig as you fall, and you can dig 2R/2L on top of one
enemy, fall and dig next to the one below.
The last gold will be the toughest to get as you must direct the enemy to
where you need him to be, but on the bright side you can trap 3 enemies when
you get close to the end to concentrate on the last gold with one free enemy.

this level is a fun challenge with a lot of different timing puzzles. We'll
start with the lowest ones first. Go left, dig right, 1D, dig right. Get the
gold and dig left, then run below and get the gold on the ledge. Come back.
Dig down 3 squares, then go into the corner. Be sure to fall right when you
can, twice. It's a very close thing.
Let's go to the top now. We can't complete this one last, because of where
the level ladders pop up.

Go left and drop left quickly. Both guys will go right. Let the one fall in
the 1-pit and walk over him. Dig 2L/L of him and walk over him so that when
he falls you can go right and get the gold under the cement. Then go to the
bottom and get the gold under there--wait a bit before falling to give
yourself enough time. Now this next bit is tricky--dig the 3 right blocks as
the enemy starts to come up, then fall right and go up the left stair. The
enemy will push you into one gold. When you're halfway on the gold you'll
have gotten it. Then you need to go right for the other one, D and L to get
out. He'll be stuck. This is a split second deal.
Race to the bottom of the right for the gold there then go back up top. Wait
for the enemy and dig right so he falls in with time to spare. Head right and
drop when he gets out and runs after you. Then dig right for him. Fall
through the hole you dug then right again, then go up the stairs til you are
level with the gold. This makes him run left; usually he'll run right. Drop
and run over him for the tough gold, then drop over him as you did for the
guy on the left. That should do it. Straight UR to exit.

Run left, dig 2 times, run left and dig behind. Go to the top, well almost,
and watch where the enemy falls. If two are on top of each other, get level
with the top one and he will fall right. Dig from one side to the other so
that the enemy falls into the center of the top structure. I will assume it
is the right, but mirror for the left. Dig left of him and quickly run left
on him. Dig 3 right of him so that he can fall right again, then dig right
and go left til he falls right. You'll have to complete him falling in the
left and it may be best just to goad an enemy up there for that. Whatever you
do don't follow him off the right too quickly after getting the gold as he
will be stunned and waiting for you.
To get a guy to drop in the left hole(they seem to drop/move to the right by
default) stand up above the left hole and see which way an enemy comes from.
Move away and drop. You can now dig the enemy into the center hole and left
as before. Though you may be able to walk over him if he gets the gold and
fall to the next platform down. That is a key thing here. You want to be able
to, after you clear the top, stick an enemy in one of the upper holes, dig to
release him, walk on him and fall and go inwards to the lower platforms.
Here is what to do for platform 2:
Dig left at the ladder, then wait 2 seconds, then the 2x2 block right of it.
Dig left again then go below and dig the 2 blocks right of the bottom ladder.
Go back up and dig over any of the golds. Repeat twice.
Platform 3: you need to drop someone off the right for this, so go all the
way right on the clothesline above. Dig 1L, wait 5 seconds, 1D, dig 1L. Then
you have enough time to dig L at the cement, drop left, dig left, 1D, dig
left and fall left for the gold, then go back right. Fall out and fall either
way to platform 4 from the top.
