Rapidly changing direction (left, right, left, right) will quicken how fast the boost comes. Release the button once the blue or orange sparks come out of the wheel. Orange sparks will produce a larger boost. Some bikes, like the Sport Bike, feature "inside drifting" which allows extremely sharp turns. FOLLOWING: Following a racer for more than 3 seconds will allow you to gain a rather useful speed boost. It is however rather difficult to pull off, especially if the person in front is a human player. BOOSTING: At the beginning of a race, as the number "2" drops into position, hold the "Go" Button until the race starts to give yourself a boost. It is a classic Mario Kart trick that you absolutely need to know. But if you do it too early, you will spin out, losing valuable seconds. SNAKING: A hated technique by many as it gives unfair advantage, almost impossible to efficiently use and master, but a select few still use it. Essentially, you drift left and right. On the left side of the track, you drift right. When you reach there, you begin to drift left. It requires a wide track and allows you to repeatedly gain mini-turbos from drifting. ITEMS: Things you use to affect you/other racers. Items like mushrooms give you boosts and shells and bananas hinder other racers. The best item of the lot is the Super Horn, powerful enough to obliterate the mighty blue shell. Not as rare as you think, I encounter it every 15-20 races, not the every 50 races I've seen others suggest. Your mileage may vary. ______ / _/ /____ __ _ ___ _/ // __/ -_) ' \(_-< /___/\__/\__/_/_/_/___/ Bananas ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Exist in single and triple forms. The single form allows you to block red and green shells once by dragging it behind you, while the triple form circles around you, blocking shells whenever it can. Defense gets signifciantly weaker when there is just one or two circling around you as there are gaps. Shells ¯¯¯¯¯¯ Green shells fire in a straight line. Red shells home in on the enemy in front. Both exist in triple variants. The Blue Shell fires straight for the first place player and explodes on impact. It knocks any player in its way to first place, so be sure to avoid it. Bob-Omb ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You throw it forward and it will explode after a few seconds. It is possible to kill yourself, so be careful. Coin ¯¯¯¯ Gets you two coins. Mushroom ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Gives you a short speed boost and allows you to boost past grass/sand or any environmental thing that would normally slow you down. Exists in single, triple and a golden variety that allows you to have unlimited boosts for a short period of time. Star ¯¯¯¯ An item that lets you boost past grass/sand, knock other racers out of your way and gain a slight speed boost along the way. Piranha Plant ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Quite possibly my favorite item, it gives you a short speed boost every few seconds and automatically chomps on any racer in your way. Bullet Bill ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ An item that's rare to see here. Allows you to let the computer drive you forward at a high speed for a short period of time. Knocks any racer out of your way. SOMETHING TO ADD: It is interesting to note you can use the steering controls while in Bill form to move left and right to knock out players you would miss otherwise, as reader Rush_shirt pointed out. Thanks for the tip! Boomerang Flower ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Allows you to throw a Boomerang 3 times to hit players in your way. Fire Flower ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Allows you to fire fireballs to other players for a short period of time. Super Horn ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ The most destructive item of the lot, it's powerful enough to send a shockwave that destryoys anything within a five-meter radius: items, players and even the mighty Blue Shell. It is rather rare, but keep it when you get it to save for first place or when there's a crowd of other people around you. NOTE ON ITEM DISTRIBUTUION: Items are now decided on the distance between you and the player in front, no longer by place. Thus, it is possible to get a Bullet Bill in second and a single Mushroom in 10th. Much more fair this time. You can hold forward on the control stick to throw an item forward, hold it backward to fire something backwards or simply hold the item button to drag it along. __ ___ __ / |/ /__ ___/ /__ ___ / /|_/ / _ \/ _ / -_|_-< /_/ /_/\___/\_,_/\__/___/ Grand Prix ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You race against 11 other people in 4 races in a determined order. All items are activated and you cannot choose specific courses, only cups of 4 preselected courses. There are 8 cups in total. Available in single and multi- player. Time Trials ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You race against a ghost in controlled situations, no items are given except for 3 mushrooms and there are no item boxes. You can race alone, against a ghost of your best record, a staff ghost or an online ghost be it the world record for that course or your friends' ghosts. Only in single-player. VS Race ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ You can choose what items appear, how difficult the enemy is, how many players play and which courses you want to play in. Available in single and multi- player. Battle ¯¯¯¯¯¯ The disappointing Battle Mode in this game lets you use items to increase your score by hitting other people. You start with 3 and your score increases if you hit more people and reduce their balloons, if you get hit it goes down by 1. Coin/Shine Runners did not return, nor did specially designed battle courses, instead there are 8 courses from the standard game and you start at random points. They should have just picked some from the old games because even THAT would have been better, looking for your enemies is a pain in the ass. Avoid this mode if you can. Available in single and multi-player. ____ __ __ ___ __ / __ \/ /_/ / ___ ____ / _ | ___ ___ ___ ____/ /____ / /_/ / __/ _ \/ -_) __/ / __ |(_- _ \/ -_) __/ __(_-< \____/\__/_//_/\__/_/ /_/ |_/___/ There are several pipes next to the turn on the grass. If you have a mushroom, it is possible to shave off some time by cutting through the grass, though aiming properly will be tricky. Right ahead of the turn are several item boxes. After that you'll enter a turn with 4 distinct sections, the outer ring with boost pads, the middle ring, the inner ring and the grass. If you have a mushroom, use it here - the corner is a little bit wider, so you're getting more out of that 'Shroom. If you don't, power slide through the inner ring or take the outer ring for the extra boost. After the turn, you'll enter the anti-gravity section. After entering the section, there will be a row of item boxes as you enter a left turn. Along the left there is also a grassy corner with a ramp, which is where you should boost with your mushroom during the time trials. Just after that, there will be a right-hand turn before you enter a hairpin U-turn to the left. Just after the turn, you'll then enter a flying section where you convert back to normal gravity mode. Then, there is a turn to the left, with the outer ring also having boost pads. You can also cut through the sandy corner on the left with a mushroom. Then after that is the finish line. WATER PARK ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Massim 2.02.954 3, 2, 1, GO! Head forward and enter the holding area for the Sub Coaster ride. It's a museum! Anyway, there'll be a right hand turn just after you enter, then you'll be back outside. Just after that, the anti-grav section begins just as you enter the water. The underwater section is brief and soon enough you'll exit the water section at a near 90 degree angle. You'll then encounter a row of item boxes, then afterwards be sure to crash into the plunging coaster's roller wheels for a speed boost. You will then enter the water again. If you have a mushroom or star, you can then cut straight across the winding path by dashing through the spinning cups ride. There will then be another set of item boxes, just before you exit the water and encounter a flying section. As you glide down, be sure to avoid the structure in the middle. After that, is the finish line. SWEET SWEET CANYON ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Fausti 2.12.107 At the beginning, there's a slight right turn and some item boxes before you enter the cave. It turns to the left, just before you are blasted to the mountain by a cannon. Hmm, I wonder where we've seen this before... *cough* DK Mountain *cough* GameCube *cough*... The mountain is a huge cake but there's no time to enjoy it. There's a spiral downwards path turning to the right that leads straight into the soda sea. The path now splits into two just as you reach another set of item boxes. Whichever path you take, they turn twice just before they both lead into a ramp with a final set of item boxes. There is a slight left turn just before there is a slight right before sharp left turn. If you have a boost item, you can drift into the donut ring and cut the corner, though this shortcut is insanely difficult to pull off without going off-road afterwards. Anyway, just after that is the finish line. THWOMP RUINS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Sophia 2.11.157 There is a set of item boxes at the beginning just before a very slight right. In the grass to the left, there is a ramp which can cut seconds in time trial. The track then bends to the left, then to the right as you enter a cave. The path splits into two - anti-gravity and normal gravity. The anti-gravity is on the outside walls and has several boost pads, but the normal one has a slightly shorter distance due to taking the inside of the curve and is much wider. There will now be a set of item boxes as you exit the cave. The path splits into 7 - anti-gravity, normal, water, flying, water, normal, anti-gravity! The flying option is blocked on lap 1, so the water path will be the shortest. You can choose whichever path you like, though. At the end, you will enter another cave, tilted at an angle. It bends to the left, then just as you exit it, there will be a right to a set of item boxes. The path now turns left. There is another thwomp, then a slight right before a left turn. There is a ramp located on the inside of this turn which can be performed with or without a mushroom. After that, there's a flying section just before the finish line. ___ (. .) Flower Cup ¯|¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ \|/ MARIO CIRCUIT ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Sho 2.07.436 As you begin, there will be a slight left turn. There's a set of item boxes too so be sure to grab one. Continue to follow the path as it turns gently to the left, before it begins to turn right onto the bridge and anti-gravity section. Just after that, there will be a gentle left turn with some piranhas near the inside curve, so don't take this turn too tight. If you have a mushroom or star you can cut behind the pipes and speed past the grass to gain an edge over your competitors. At the end of the turn there will be another set of item boxes. Just after that there will be a pair of ramps just before a single one in the center during a straightaway. There will then be a right hand turn just before a set of item boxes and a left turn. There is another right turn with a Piranha Plant again and just like before you can cut behind him to save a few seconds. Just after that there's a glider boost pad, some Goomba towers you should avoid and the finish line. TOAD HARBOR ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ NOTE: This course is called Toad Harbour in PAL releases of the game. STAFF GHOST: Nin*Alice 2.31.066 As soon as you begin there is a right hand turn. The path splits into two and the left one has two boost ramps that let you jump over a body of water (which means you can fall down) and the right is a normal bridge. The left path is definitely faster but you risk falling into the water. Anyway, you can now take the ramp onto the tent tops or choose the bottom path. There is a boost pad hiding if you take the bottom path, though the top path is faster and you don't risk colliding into pillars. Just after that the path will split into two again! The left path is wider but is slightly further while the right path turns to the right, then to the left before cutting between the buildings to provide a shorter path. Shortly afterwards there is a tram path in the middle. You can either use the normal path or use anti-grav to race along the outside wall to get lots of speed boosts from the boost pads. Anyway, there is a set of item boxes at the end, then there is a downhill path with several boost ramps and pads. You can stay close the left side to be able to turn left and take advantage of a small shortcut. Anyway, you can follow the tram path and get an extra item box if you veer right and take the hidden path. Don't worry, the finish line will still count it as a lap. TWISTED MANSION ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Mark 2.16.195 The doors open as you begin the race - welcome to the haunted mansion. Anyway, as you begin the path will split into two. It doesn't matter which one you take they both have a set of item boxes and eventually end up at the same place, so it's up to you which one you want to take. At the end of the path is a left turn. If you have a mushroom or star you can use it to cut across the path between the shelves on the left. When the paths rejoin, there will be a set of item boxes and you will enter the water. There will be two rights and a left just before the path splits into two, then there will be a short straightaway on both sections just before the glider and another set of item boxes. Take the upper path if you can as you glide above the courtyard, there will be a left turn just before you re-enter the outside area. Several statues will be waiting for you, slamming their hammer down at any passing racer. After that is the finish line. SHY GUY FALLS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Frank 2.19.958 As you begin, there will be a left turn just before a set of item boxes, then a right turn will follow. There will now be a slight right turn just before a boost ramp. Another left turn will follow just before a ramp. On the waterfall, use as many boosts as you can, then follow the path as it bends to the left, just before you go down the waterfall. There will now be a glider ramp. Use it to try to glide into the cave, which is slightly faster. Anyway, both paths will rejoin just before a slight right and then a left, along with a set of item boxes. There will now be a right turn, two ramps and a final right just before the finish line. _/\_ \ / Star Cup |/\|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ SUNSHINE AIRPORT ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Leonel 2.24.429 As soon as the race begins, the path will turn very slightly right just before a sharp left and a set of item boxes. As soon as you land, turn left and trick off the ramp while avoiding the crates. Avoid crashing into the plane's landing gears and trick off the boost ramp at the end. Follow the path and turn left, tricking off the boost ramp again. Try to reach the plane's wings if you can. (NOTE: You can drift towards the right as you boost off the ramp and use a boost to cut across the grass on the right side in time trials) Whichever path you choose, there will be a set of item boxes. As the paths rejoin, turn left and you will reach a glider ramp. As you land, follow the path as it turns right and use the spinboosters (the pillar thingies) to your advantage. At the end, there is another glider ramp. Upon landing, turn left, then right. You can trick off the conveyor belt on the right side if you want. After that is the finish line. DOLPHIN SHOALS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Skip 2.19.160 GO! Turn left and grab an item box, then trick off either of the pair off ramps followed by tricking off the middle ramp. Follow the path as it turns left, then use the current the pipes are producing to trick off of and get to the other side. As you land, there will be another set of item boxes. Trick off the current again to land atop the eel. Continually trick off of his ridge on his back to gain several speed boosts. At the end, trick off of the stationary ramp and follow the road as it turns right. You will soon come across another set of item boxes. At the end, trick off of both ramps, then glide to the next section. On landing, there will be an S-turn which you can dash straight across the off-road if you have a boost item with you. After that is the finish line. ELECTRODOME ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Yuya 2.24.747 As you begin trick off the glider ramp, then follow the path as it turns left. Get an item box, then follow the path. As you enter the anti-gravity section, the path will turn right. As the path straightens, use the spinboosters, then pick either the green or the pink path. In my experience, the green path is slightly faster than the pink path, though it shouldn't make much of a difference. Anyway, they each have two sets of item boxes and a pair of spin boosters, then at the end trick off of the glider ramp. Finally, as you land, turn left at the final turn to reach the finish line. MOUNT WARIO ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Elena 2.06.283 Alright, this is my #1 favorite course, so let's make this course guide the best one out of the lot. As you begin, trick off of the ramp at the end of the airplane's door, then be sure to grab an item box from the set as soon as you land on the snow. Follow path as it gently turns right, then to the left. Note that you can cut across the snow on the left side if you have a boost item. At the end of the path, there will be a ramp. Trick off of it to receive a boost, then drift towards the right, taking the high path if you can. If you do take the high path, trick off of the ramp at the end to receive a boost. Take the upper right path again this time to receive two boosts from two boost pads. Trick off of the second one to receive another boost. You will now be on a straightaway. Note that there is a slight ramp on the right side as you turn. Use that slight ramp to your advantage to skip the turn completely. It is risky but it does pay off and as long as you're at full speed, it should be no problem. As you enter the second section, grab an item box. Drift right and follow the path, then trick off the ramp at the end. Repeat it but in reverse, drift left then trick off the glider ramp. Use the many boost pads in your glide path to maximize glide distance, then trick off of the boost ramp. Drift towards the right, then left, grabbing an item box along the way. Trick off of the ramp, then be sure to use the boosters in the waterfall to gain the upper hand. The path now splits into 3. Take the right path if you don't have a boost as it is (or at least I feel it is) faster, though that's just my 2 cents. If you do have a boost item, take the middle path and use the glider ramp to your advantage. Be sure to grab an item box, then trick off of the logs in the next area as the paths rejoin. Avoid the many trees and follow the path as it turns right. As you enter the game's third section, turn left and grab an item box, then trick off of the ramps in the next area. Drift and follow the path. Grab an item box and trick off as many bumps in the road as you can, then at the end turn left and zigzag to get all of the boost pads' speed boosts, then trick off the glider ramp (grabbing an item along the way) and fly into all 3 boost rings. Now follow the path to reach the finish line. If you have a boost item, use it to boost past the final off-road section and reach the finish line. Whew, that was a long course guide. |\/o\/| |_____| Special Cup ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ CLOUDTOP CRUISE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Maria 2.26.347 As you begin, turn right and trick off the boost ramp, getting an item box as you go. As you land on the Bowser shroom, trick off of it too. Now follow the path as it turns left, then to the right. You can take the shortcut by tricking off the Bowser shroom or following the path around an "S" turn. After that, trick off the ramp and get an item box. Then, follow the turn as it bends right. Now you have two paths to choose from, left or right. The right path is shorter, though it is a lot more cramped. Use the glider ramp, then as you land in the clouds, use as many boost pads as you can, though be aware that all the boost pads are hotspots for lightning strikes, so it's risk vs reward. At the end, trick off the glider ramp, getting an item box along the way. After you land, follow the path as it turns right, or head to the leaves on the right side, tricking off both of them to reach the finish line. BONE DRY DUNES ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Elena 2.13.391 GO! Turn right and grab an item box, then follow the path as it winds left and right. At the end, choose among the two paths, left or right. Left is slightly faster in my experience, though that's just my two cents. At the end, follow the path and turn left, then trick off the ramp. Choose the right path if you can, then grab an item box and follow the path as it bends right. Avoid the Piranha Plant at the next fork, then choose the right path again. At the next fork, choose the right path one last time, then use as many spin- boosters as you can. At the end, trick off the glider ramp and fly to the next area. In my experience, you require a boost item to reach the upper path. On landing, turn left, avoid the Dry Bones in the straightaway, then turn left one last time to reach the finish line. BOWSER'S CASTLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Polly 2.23.872 Head straight as the doors open and trick off the bridge, getting an item box along the way. Inside the castle turn right, then left, followed by a second left turn. After that, drift if you can on the bridge-thingy, then turn left at the end. Trick off both the bridges' ends, avoiding the rotating fireballs and ball 'n chain. At the end, get an item box before turning left, followed by another left. Choose whichever of the 2 paths you want, though the one without Mecha-Bowser's arms slamming at it is advised. Follow the path of whichever one you choose, at the end grab an item box and trick off the glider ramp. On landing, follow the gentle left turn, then to the right. Avoid the falling boulders and choose whichever path you wish when it splits into two. After that is the finish line. RAINBOW ROAD ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Mizuho 2.23.967 Welcome to this iconic track! As the race begins, turn right and grab an item box, followed by a right U-turn. After that, turn left and trick off the glider ramp. On landing, trick off the ramp and race along whichever conveyor belt is green, do not choose the red path. At the end, trick off either glider ramp, grabbing an item box along the way. On landing, follow the paths and use as many spinboosters as you can, then grab an item box as the paths converge. Follow the path's left turn, drifting along the outside path, boosting along the boost pads, just don't fall. A final, gentle right turn follows just before the left turn. FINISH! __ /XX\ \__/ Shell Cup ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Wii MOO MOO MEADOWS ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Chris 1.46.099 As you begin there will be a set of item boxes just before a left turn. After that is a narrow winding path which will be full of cows feeding on the grass in later laps. After that is another left with a set of item boxes. Just after that is a ramp and then a left turn. If you take the outer path you will be able to benefit from the glider ramp placed there. After that is a straightaway with several grass patches near the middle and moles that dig underground and pop up occassionally. It's not too hard to avoid though. Following that section is a left turn and then you will meet with the finish line. GBA MARIO CIRCUIT ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Rie 1.49.158 There will be a slight left as you begin just before a right turn. There will now be a ramp that will launch you up onto the raised hairpin turn. Follow the path as it bends to the left, then take the boost ramp. You will get an item from the set of item boxes. After the ramp there will be a right turn just before a left. If you have a boost item, cut into the grass on the right and take the glider ramp to get an edge over your fellow racers. Whichever path you take, you will get an item. The path will now bend left, just before an even sharper left turn, after which is the finish line. DS CHEEP CHEEP BEACH ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Massim 2.11.120 The race begins with a short straightaway just before a right turn, after which is a set of item boxes, followed by a glider ramp. After that is a slow, slight right turn and a boost ramp, just before a left, followed by a right turn. You can cut time by driving underwater, though don't go too deep. There is a straight just before you enter the forest, followed by a right turn. After that is a left turn just before you exit the forest. And just after that is the finish line. N64 TOAD'S TURNPIKE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Alice 2.08.059 As you begin there will be a left turn. You can drive on the wall on the right to cut time as it has several boost pads and doesn't have cars to avoid, so it is faster compared to the normal route. Whichever path you take, be sure to grab an item box. After that is a straightaway section, just before another set of item boxes, just before a right turn just before another straightaway. The anti-grav walls return again this time! Again it is slightly faster than the normal path. After that is a straightaway just before the finish line. |\ / \ Banana Cup |/\|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ NOTE: I know that's a pathetic banana. What, can you do better in just 3 lines? GCN DRY DRY DESERT ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Maria 2.29.678 START! Get an item box, then there will be a right turn, just before a winding path with several Pokeys as obstacles. Just after that there will be another set of item boxes just before a right turn. The path will split into 3 - normal, quicksand, normal. If you have a mushroom or star take the middle path (quicksand) to cut several seconds, just don't go too near the middle, otherwise stick to the side. Just after that there will be a slight right just before another set of item boxes. In this section, you can use both the geyser things and the side of the hills to do tricks off of. Just after that is a right turn. On the left is a ramp in the sand which can be reached with a boost item. Anyway, after that is the finish line. SNES DONUT PLAINS 3 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Frank 1.39.148 GO! There will be a winding path just before a set of item boxes, followed by a right turn and a bridge. After the bridge, there is a slight right turn followed by another right turn. After that is a partly cut off bridge followed by a left turn and another set of item boxes. Following that is a left turn and a right shortly after, just before a straightaway with moles that leave trails that can be tricked off of. Following that is a left turn and one last right turn before the finish line. N64 ROYAL RACEWAY ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Skip 2.21.371 BEGIN! The race begins with a left turn just before a set of item boxes, followed by a second left turn. The road now bends to the right, followed by a second right turn. There is now a slight right and now if you have a boost item you can cut across the grass to reach the ramp or just follow the path. Whichever path you choose, you can get an item from one of the boxes. Now turn right after which you should encounter a straight followed by a glider ramp. On touchdown, turn left and grab an item box, then follow the winding path. Immediately after, turn left and the finish line should be in sight. 3DS DK JUNGLE ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ STAFF GHOST: Nin*Rie 2.26.900 Umm, I'm running out of start synonyms here..., uh..., LAUNCH? ABADAKADABRA? Whatever. Anyway, as you begin, turn left and grab an item box, then take whichever path you want as it splits into two, but they should rejoin just shortly after. Trick off the ramp and trick off the flower bouncy springy thing to get 2 boosts, then follow the path as it turns left. Get another item box, then turn right before turning left. You can also use the glider ramp which saves several seconds (keep a close eye out for it, it's a few meters before the left turn). Anyway, follow the path and trick off the 3 different ramps immediately after.
As you enter the temple, there will be a right followed by 2 lefts, then trick
off the ramp and grab an item box.
Afterwards is a glider ramp. On touchdown, pick either of the two paths (the
left one is shorter but you run the risk of falling) to reach the finish line.

As the race begins, get an item box before turning left. Then follow the path's
right turn before making a sharp left turn, followed by a second left turn. At
the end, trick off the boost ramp, then turn left. Trick off all 4 of the boost
ramps, then get an item box before turning left again.
Trick off both of the boost ramps, avoiding the rotating fireballs as best you
can. At the end, turn left followed by a right turn. After that, turn left. Do
not take the corner too sharply or you might just collide with one of the
rotating fireballs. Trick off the ramp, then turn left.
Get an item box as you trick off the first of 3 boost ramps, then after landing
in the water, there are some more ramps just before a left turn. There's one
last glider ramp just before the finish line.

STAFF GHOST: Nin*Fausti 2.21.192
As the race begins, the path turns right, leading to a set of item boxes,
followed by a left turn. After that, you can choose to be in the water or above
ground. While underwater does have several boost pads, in my experience the
above ground path is slightly faster. If you do take the above ground section,
take a right turn shortly afterwards to enter the cave, while underwater-goers
should just follow the path. The paths converge just shortly afterwards.
In the cave, turn right followed by a left and a set of item boxes, then turn
right followed by a left. Outside, turn a right, followed by a second right and
another set of item boxes. Now the path splits into two - above ground and
underwater.
If you do take the above ground path, turn a right at the end, avoiding the
icicles and the holes that take you underwater. If you take the underwater path
you need to avoid the pillars, but there is also a right turn at the end.
Common sense should take you, whichever path you choose, to the finish line.
3DS MUSIC PARK
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
STAFF GHOST: Nin*Sho 2.24.468
NOTE: This course is called 3DS Melody Motorway in PAL releases of the game.
At the beginning, turn left and right, getting an item box along the way. You
can boost staight across the grass. There is now a left turn which is split
into 3 paths - inside (shortest), middle (you can trick off the piano keys) and
outside (farthest but it has boost pads).
As the paths converge, avoid the spots with the lights on as the Piranha Plants
can chomp on you and take precious seconds. There is a ramp which can be
reached by a boost item, or take the long way round. There is now a wide right
turn which is followed by a set of item boxes and a wide left turn.
Trick off both the ramp and the drum thingy, then turn right and chooose which
ever ramp you want - glider or normal. Anyway, the path is mostly straight,
though sticking to the sides may be a good idea.
Beside the second music note are two different sets of item boxes, so do grab
one before proceeding. You can trick off the ground just as the music notes
collide onto the ground to get some extra boosts.
After that is a right turn, though you can use the drum on the side to get some
extra speed boosts. At the end, there's one last left turn just before the
finish line.
N64 YOSHI VALLEY
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
STAFF GHOST: Nin*Mark 2.28.814
Since there are SO MANY different paths, I will list the two I find the best.
At the beginning, turn left and enter the valley area (getting an item box
along the way), then at the fork, you have the two different paths to choose
from:
PATH 1 - Take the left turn, then follow the bridge and trick off of it, then
turn right and get an item box. This is the fastest path but is very risky.
PATH 2 - Turn right, followed by another right to be blasted off by a cannon.
This path is much slower, but you do get an extra set of item boxes.
As the paths converge, follow it as it U-turns to the left then follow it.
Avoid the spinning egg (which is now smaller than before) and follow the
winding path. You can use mushrooms to dash across here too.
At the end, turn left to reach the finish line.
You can choose any of the multiple paths, though it's your choice between pure
speed or strategic advantages in terms of items.

DS TICK TOCK CLOCK
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
STAFF GHOST: Nin*Sophia 2.13.712
At the beginning, turn left and trick off the ramp, then get an item box. You
can trick off the clock hands in the center, though it is very narrow and risky
compared to the sides. As the paths converge, trick off the ramp, avoiding the
pendulum, just before turning right.
Trick off the next ramp, get an item box and avoid the pendulum before turning
right. Use whichever ramp you want, though the glider is preferred. Follow the
fastest way around the gears, which is to follow their way of turning.
At the end, there should be another set of item boxes just before turning right
then left. You can trick off the clock hands, then turn left. You can ride on
either gear just before the finish, though common sense should tell you to take
the one that's spinning forward. And you're done.
3DS PIRANHA PLANT SLIDE
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
STAFF GHOST: Nin*Polly 2.23.991
NOTE: This course is called 3DS Piranha Plant Pipeway in PAL releases.
At the beginning, trick off the ramp. Get an item box as quickly as you can,
but follow the path. Enter the pipe, then trick off the ramp just before
turning left. The path splits into 3, left, middle and right. The middle one is
risky as it is narrow and placed inconveniently, so avoid it.
Anyway, turn left and you can take the ramps to be above the track or below. At
the end, grab an item box before turning left, then right. There are several
ramps you can trick off here, so use them to your advantage.
Underwater, follow the path as it turns left. You can use the air currents to
go up to the higher platforms if you want. At the end, trick off the glider
ramp.
As you land, turn right, then left (you can cut across the turn using a boost
item). After that is the finish line.
Wii GRUMBLE VOLCANO
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
STAFF GHOST: Nin*Yuya 2.18.305
As you begin, trick off the ramp, then head straight and grab an item box.
Enter the mountain, then turn right and head straight. The path now splits into
two as there is another set of item boxes. The path now turns right, then left
just before converging.
Anyway, you can trick off the ramp, then use the glider ramp. Then at the end
turn right to reach the third set of item boxes. Turn the next right, then the
path splits into two. I advise taking the left path.
Turn left, then turn right. Trick off the glider ramp and you should see the
finish line.
N64 RAINBOW ROAD
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
STAFF GHOST: Nin*Leonel 1.33.731
Start by heading straight. Go through all the star rings, then trick off the
glider ramp and get an item box. Fly through both star rings, then follow the
path as it turns right. As the road becomes wavy, trick off the wavy sections
to get as many boosts as you can. Avoid the Chomp, then get the item box.
As the second section then turn right. You should reach the third set of item
boxes. There are now more Chomps at the next wavy section, so avoid them as
best you can. Now turn right, then follow the gentle left as it leads to the
next set of item boxes.
Alright, final section! Follow the winding path and grab an item box. After
that, turn left and grab the final set of item boxes, then race through all the
star rings and trick off the final glider ramp just before the finish line. And
you're DONE!
Enjoy the credits! Thanks for reading!

I would like to thank the following people/companies/websites:
- Nintendo, for producing amazing games.
- My family, for obvious reasons. Duh.
- Super Mario Wiki (mariowiki.com), for helping me when I was unsure of the
information I had (and for the entire "Karts and Parts" and "Character Stats"
section)
- GameFAQs, for hosting the guide.
- Rush_shirt, a reader who helpfully pointed out a technique when using the
Bullet Bill!
And so, this project comes to a close. Thank you all so much for reading and
goodbye!

Version History
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
UNPUBLISHED - Never published for the general public.
OBSOLETE - Published but has been replaced by a newer version.
CURRENT - The newest version.
Version 0.0.a ("Alpha") - 1/11/2014 - UNPUBLISHED: Started the guide and filled
out the basic stuff that are non-game related. Decided to use a simpler layout
and design than what I used in the 3D World guide, so not quite as pretty, but
in my opinion, much better-written.
Version 0.0.b ("Beta") - 5/15/2014 - UNPUBLISHED: Can't believe it's been 4
months! Touched up the guide's layout and added things here and there. You can
be sure this will be out the day the game launches, so keep a close eye!
Version 0.0.1 ("Kart") - 5/30/2014 - OBSOLETE: Launch day! Wrote the guide for
the first 2 tracks and also controls, but that's pretty much all I did. Will be
updating it over the next few days.
Version 0.1.0 ("Bike") - 6/10/2014 - OBSOLETE: Not a lot has been done, mostly
was writing the supplementary sections like karts and parts, items and others.
Version 0.5.0 ("ATV") - 6/17/2014 - OBSOLETE: Finished 4 of the cups.
Version 0.7.5 ("Circuit") - 6/20/2014 - OBSOLETE: Finished 2 more of the cups,
the Star and Special Cup. Added some Staff Ghost times to the courses. Look out
for the final 2 cups very soon!
Version 0.8.0 ("Crazy 8") - 6/20/2014 - OBSOLETE: Finished up the Karts and
Parts section with the stats for each vehicle and each part, along with adding
sections like "Points" and "Stamps" to Driving School. No new cups added.
Version 0.9.0 ("Super Horn")- 6/21/2014 - OBSOLETE: Finished up the Leaf Cup,
look out for the complete guide VERY soon!
Version 1.0.0 ("Mobius Strip") - 6/21/2014 - OBSOLETE: Alright, we're done now!
It's been a great journey, thanks for reading! Anyways, added 2 more cups and
the staff ghost times for all the courses.
Verson 1.0.1 ("Mobius Strip") - 6/24/2014 - OBSOLETE: Added in a contribution to
the Items section.
Version 1.0.2 ("Mobius Strip") - 6/26/2014 - OBSOLETE: Added in a donations
section.
Version 1.0.5 ("Fast") - 6/30/2014 - OBSOLETE: Fixed some stuff.
Version 1.1.0 ("Speed") - 1/25/2016 - CURRENT: Refreshed the cluttered top part
of the guide as well as section headers, and updated the legal section. No
additional content.
