Introduction )-------------------------------- =============================================================================== When I was in elementary, I remember opening up my super nintendo and first two games for Christmas. I had gotten Donkey Kong Country 2, and Super Soccer. I played Donkey Kong 2 for a while obviously because its a great game, and i completely ignored my Super Soccer game. I ended up forgetting about this game and playing other new games. Like, almost four years later, after i had gotten a Nintendo 64, i pulled out the ol' super nintendo and the first game I saw in the box was, (reflect on this suspenseful moment) Super Soccer! So i popped it in and started playing. Not surprisingly, I played for hours. This game totally grew on me. When i saw that there was no Guide for Super Soccer at gamefaqs I jumped at the chance to write one. There isn't really a "walkthrough" that you can write for this game, but there's alot of things to cover that make this game different than all the other SNES soccer games (like the Fifa games, Megaman soccer, ect.)If your looking for something in particular in this guide just push Control and F and type in what your looking for. Now that I've told you about everything you don't give a crap to know... Thankyou, and enjoy. - DasonRise - =============================================================================== -----------------------------( III. Basics )--------------------------------- =============================================================================== ____________ = = = (CONTROLS) = =____________= If you have a manual you'll want to check the controls there for a more accurate list of controls but most manuals are stupid and really annoying (not really), so for some reason maybe having lost your manual (or maybe if your playing an emulator) if you need to know some controls, here is an idiot proof list of the Offense, Defense, and Shootout controls. *- OFFENSE CONTROLS -* A - Short Kick B - Long Kick Y - Passes to whoever is selected with the red arrow X - Does nothing R - changes red arrow thing to another team mate (see passing below) L - changes red arrow thing to another team mate (see passing below) *- DEFENSE CONTROLS -* A - Slide Tackle B - Slide Tackle Y - Check (tackle) X - Does nothing R - Does nothing L - Does nothing *- SHOOTOUT -* A - Nothing B - Kick NOTE: When you push 'B', the player runs up to kick the Y - Nothing ball. Before he kicks it, push 'B' again X - Nothing right before he makes contact and the ball will go R - Nothing a little faster. (see shootout section) L - Nothing _________ = = = (RULES) = =_________= I'm assuming that because you bought a soccer game, you know the basic rules of soccer. If you don't I'll be here laughing in your face while I put your name on my list of pathetic losers. Ha, just kidding. Ok, anyway. Seriously, if you don't know the rules of soccer than just ask your gym teacher or your dad unless you don't want to be known as a pathetic loser. And if you do know the rules sometimes sports games completely change or ignore certain rules. Like NFL Blitz for instance. Because of this Here's a list of things you should know before you kill every player on field. - Yes, there are refs so don't check(tackle) to often or they will call you with a yellow card and rarely a red card. NOTE: If you foul with someone who has already gotten a yellow card THEN YOU GET A RED CARD. If your player's number is yellowish, then be careful when you slidetackle because yes, they call for those sometimes too(more often when you have already received a card) and NEVER CHECK WHEN YOU'VE PREVIOUSLY FOULED. - There is a boundary line so don't stupidly cross the line for any reason. (If it's possible) - I don't think it's possible, but I feel like informing all you geniuses out there that in soccer only the goalie can touch the ball with his hands. If your goalie is busy or something, don't storm in the goalie box with another player trying to block the ball. - Cornerkicks are corner kicks, goal kicks are goal kicks, throw-ins are throw-ins, and about every boundary line rule is in play. - Goalie's can leave the goalbox but i don't recommend it. Sometimes for fun you can try and score with your goalie if your ahead or something, but if you get checked, and the other team gets the ball, then your screwed and the other team will score, and you'll feel really freaking stupid. Now go cry in your room while you live your pathetic life. heh. sorry. - Your allowed to check (tackle) but if you do it constantly you'll eventually get called for it. (I'm saying this again, because you don't need to be check happy) ______________ = = = (GAME TYPES) = =______________= When you pop in your cart it plays a nifty little movie and takes you to the main menu. In the Menu it gives you two options: Exhibition, and Tournament mode. If your looking for practice and a quick game that's basically what an Exhibition is. If you want a challenge with a point (to win, that is) then choose Tournament mode. For more information look below. *- EXHIBITION -* In Exhibition mode you play a single game using the team of your choice against the team of your choice. You can either play against a friend, against the computer, or with a friend against the computer. Yes, that's three possibilities. Count 'em three. OK, anyway, on the Main Menu after you select Exhibition, you get to select how long your game lasts till half time! alright! Oh, and by the way (if you care) when your team is walking somewhere after the first half(probably the locker rooms, but you never know) you can push 'B' to make the team jump in unison. I don't know if you care, but I had to tell someone about this. I'm so cool... *- TOURNAMENT -* In tournament mode you choose your team, then you play gradually tougher teams until you play the championship. After you beat the championship, well maybe I won't tell you... Ok i won't tell you. HA HA HA! Now you have to find out for yourself. I feel so power ful! Actually, I'm too lazy to type spoiler in big letters with asterisks around it all over my FAQ. So if you really suck and you really really want to know just email me your address and I'll tell you. ___________ = = = (PASSING) = =___________= In most sports games, when you pass, it passes to the closest team- mate on the Field/Court/ect. In Super Soccer, when you get the ball, reddish colored arrows appear over one of your nearby team-mates indicating who the ball will be passed to if you pass. To change who will be passed to, push 'L' or 'R' and the arrow will switch to another nearby team-mate. This type of passing can be difficult at first, (just like everything else different in this game) but can give you more options strategically and can be extremely useful (also just like everything else different in this game). =============================================================================== ---------------------------------( IV. Teams )------------------------------- =============================================================================== In Super Soccer there are 16 teams each representing a country. It's pretty much the same as World Cup with the all the best teams. The teams surprisingly are extremely uneven statistically. Unless your favorite teams are Germany or Argentina (ect.)it's gonna be difficult at first if you try and play with your favorite team. For example, i wanted to be the good ol' USA when i first started playing, but when it shows the teams with their stats i changed my mind. Back when Super Soccer was made, USA was one of the sucky teams. *sniff, boo hoo* c'mon suck it up! you can live with germany until you get good enough to play with your favorite.Hopefully, your favorite team isn't Belgium, cause i doubt anyone is good enough to get far in a tournament with Belgium (With very few exceptions). Anyway, I've listed all the teams from "Worst to Best". ATK stands for, basically, the overall offensive skills of the team. DEF stands for the defensive skills of the team (uhhh...) And RUN stands for the speed of the team. (another uhh...) -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIII = Belgium = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIII NOTE: RVTUNES emailed me with his evidence and password of beating the game with Belgium. Even the most extreme players would have trouble doing this. I command you all to go make a tiki in honor of RVTUNES and bow down to it before all of your meals. heh. No, really. Just think about it. Winning the Championship with Belgium is probably harder than spreading mayonnaise on the back of your grandma's Uvula (it's that punching bag in the back of your throat). -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIII = Uruguay = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Yugoslavia = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Columbia = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Japan = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII (GO USA!) = U.S.A. = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = France = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Ireland = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Romania = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Cameroon = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = England = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Holland = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Brazil = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Italy = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII NOTE: Italy isn't quite as fast as Argentina and Germany, but RVTUNES informed me of their awesome goalie. If you get good at manually controlling the goalie I strongly recommend you use Italy. -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Argentina = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII NOTE: Germany has more players with higher average stats, but Argentina has Diego, the player of all players. If you know where this guy is on the field, give him the ball and scoring will be alot easier. -------------- ATK - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII = Germany = DEF - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII -------------- RUN - IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII NOTE: Germany is pretty much the best team, and I recommend all beginners to use the top four teams until you improve. =============================================================================== ---------------------( V. Offense and Defense Strategies )------------------- =============================================================================== When I started playing this game, I found it very difficult to score on the goalies, at first. When you get the ball it's really easy to lose it almost immediately, so you have to keep the ball moving. I feel like a soccer coach but that just goes to show you how good this game really is. Over playing this game alot, you tend to find little weaknesses in the game mostly by accident. So I have listed some Offense and Defense strategies that i have found to be extremely useful. ___________ = = = (OFFENSE) = =___________= Ok first off, like i said earlier, It's difficult to get anything past the goalies, at first. When you watch the computer score they make it look easy because they put angles on from a straight on shot. So you have to shoot at just the right spot to get shots past the goalie. *- First Strategy -* This one works great early on in the game and is easy to do. The only problem is once the teams start to get tougher their goalies get faster and they start to block this shot. Below is a peice of crap that shows half of a field. Basically just kick a straight on Long Shot(B) from the X on the graph thing. The ball should slide right inside the side of the goal. NOTE: Obviously this works on the left side as well, so take anything you can get. Ball should land here __________________________\__________________ | | | X| | | | | | | | | | | |____________| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |____________________| | | | | | | \ _____ / | | X | | \ | | Long kick from | | here | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ___ | | / \ | |-------------------------------------------| \ ___ / *- Second Strategy -* This one is difficult to do sometimes but its the only thing that saved me when i got farther in the tournament. For this one you half to get the goalie away from the goal for awhile so you can shoot a diagonal shot right beside him. (If your on the left side of the field then you shoot it to the right of the goalie). Here is another lame graph that looks like a kindergardener found ol' Grampy's booze and drew a Giraffe, but if you can work with me here, it's kinda hard to graph something this confusing. Anyway once again the X is where you should kick a shot. Doesn't really matter where you shoot it because your so close to the goal but I recommend the short shot. Kick the ball towards here _______________ ____________/_________________ | | | | | | | | | G-goalie | | | | | |____________| | | | | X | | | | \ | | | | You (kick from here) | | |____________________| | | | | | | \ _____ / | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ___ | | / \ | |-------------------------------------------| \ ___ / *- Dribbling Strategy -* When you have the ball, you have to either dribble or pass it. Duh. Ok, if you suck at passing and the enemy(yes, the enemy) always intercepts it then try dribbling the ball towards the goal. Another Duh. When you dribble, you run alot slower than when you don't have the ball, so you have to pass it every once in a while when the enemy (yes the enemy) gets to close. or you do this little zig zag thing I do sometimes. When an opponent comes up behind you, you can either zig to the right, or zag to the left. Ha. Duh. Common sense. But most of the time, the opponent will come from an angle beside you. In that case, don't zig, don't zag, but zog up and around the incoming slide-tackler. Yes, zog right around them before they catch the ball with their ever so quick little feet of death. *- RVTUNES Strategy -* This is an excellent strategy RVTUNES emailed me. When I first tried it out it shocked me how well it worked. Well, what's different about this one is that your extremely close to the goalie. You're gonna have to have decent passing and dribbling skills to get by the defense, but once you do there's no stopping you. Ok, for this one you take the ball down the field along the sidelines and into the corner (that's what I recommend). The defenders should follow you so now pass it out to another of your teamates. This works for me most of the time but if you can't seem to pass it out then you can just skip step one and try and dribble in anyway. After you get the ball from the first teammate take it along the lateral goal line (parralel with the opponent's goal)and short kick it (pass it) into the goal. The goalie should jump almost right over it just before the ball slips in. If you don't understand what to do just check the maps below. STEP 1: X - Dribble the ball here Y - Pass to here (to a teammate) _____________________________________________ | X | | | | | | Y | | | | | | | |____________| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |____________________| | | | | | | \ _____ / | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ___ | | / \ | |-------------------------------------------| \ ___ / STEP 2: X - Kick the ball from here Y - Kick towards here _____________________________________________ | | | Y | | | | | | | | | | | |____________| | | | | X | | | | | | | | | | | |____________________| | | | | | | \ _____ / | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ___ | | / \ | |-------------------------------------------| \ ___ / *- Curving the Ball -* When you kick the ball hit right or left on the D-pad right after and it should curve a little bit. Very useful when your in a 'non-scoring' position. NOTE: Works for Shootout too. ___________ = = = (DEFENSE) = =___________= There's not alot of defensive strategies you can use, but i have a list of tips below to help you out on some of the small things. - Never take your goalie out of the goalie box when you have the ball. Like I said earlier, if you get checked, the other team will most likely score. (unless your team is weak, because then the ball won't go far and you'll end up in another problem) - If your surrounded by opponents in your goalie box then Long Kick it out of there right away and try and recover it with another player at half field. - Don't check to often because, (like i said previously) refs will call on you if you do it to much. - Don't take the ball up the field with a defender. When you dribble the ball, your surrounding team-mates seem to follow you up the field, so you dont want all your defenders where all your strikers (forwards) are. - When you select your formation, select one with at least 3 defenders. I recommend 4 but i guess if your good enough you can make it easier for with more strikers and half backs(mid-fielders). =============================================================================== -------------------------( VI. Shootout )------------------------------------ =============================================================================== A Shootout is a tie breaker in soccer. If the game ends and the score is still tied, then you will have to settle the score in a Shootout. In a Shootout, one player from your team will try and shoot a penalty shot past the opponent's goalie. If you score, that's a point and then the other team has a shot. If you score two in a row,(which means you score, block the opponent's shot, and score again) you win the shootout and the game. If you want to practice a Shootout you can select it in Exhibition Mode. When kicking the ball in a shootout, you can hold a direction (up,up-right, right,down-right,down, down-left,left,up-left) when you push 'B' to kick it. Also, for a faster kick, after you push 'B' your player runs up to the ball to kick it. Before he kicks the ball, push 'B' again before he makes contact. As for being the goalie and blocking the shots, you have to watch carefully where the ball is going and predict where to jump. To jump you push a direction and 'B' and he will jump in the direction to block the shot. NOTE: You can curve the ball in Shootouts too. Just check in the Offensive Strategies above. =============================================================================== ----------------------( VII. Frequently Asked Questions )-------------------- =============================================================================== Q: How do I unlock the Uber team with England? A: Well as for the English Uber team it's new to me. Someone else asked me this too and he said that you have to highlight England on the team selection screen and enter in a combination of buttons and all the players will be the Staff members with really good stats. If anyone knows how to do this (the button combination) let me know and I will post it here (and give you credit) and everyone will be a little more happier. (>'.'>) look it's kirby! Q: How do I curve the ball? The computer does it but I don't know how. A: This question has been in my inbox alot. I had forgotten, but I remember now and it should be in my FAQ if it's recent. Q: How do you unlock the Expert Mode? A: Because of all the questions about cheats I made a cheat section and it should be up if your reading this. So check down there. =============================================================================== --------------------------( VIII.
