Star Ocean Walkthrough (version 0.99) Based on: SFC, NTSC-J version (SHVC-ARFJ-JPN) - This game is a spiritual successor to Tales of Phantasia. - Depending on your choices and actions, some events will play out differently and some are not available at all. I've covered some of these alternate events in the misc. section. - You can change weapons, characters and tactics during battle. You still can't disable or enable spells, though. - Running doesn't increase the encounter rate. - The damage you deal is (cATP - eDFP)elcr - cATP: Character's Attack Power - eDFP: Enemy's Defense Power - e: Elemental multiplier (1,0; 2,0; 0,5; 0; -1) - l: Ranged modifier. Ranged physical attacks always deal 1,5x damage. However, the damage will not increase from criticals nor do they have a chance of inflicting Stun. - c: Critical hit roll (1,5x). Critical hits have a chance of inflicting Stun, which lasts for 2 seconds. - r: Random multiplier (1,03125; 1,0625; or 1,125). - Energy-based attacks ignore DFP. - Damage received is (eATP - cDFP)*3eclgr - g: Guts roll (0,5x). - Much like in ToP, the damage is reduced by 1 or 2 points for most enemies. - The random multiplier for healing spells is different than what's used in damage. At most, it increases the figure by about 1%. - About stats - Str -> base ATP (Kougeki) - Con -> base DFP (Bougyo) - Agl -> base Accuracy (Meichuu) - Int is mainly used by mages, although the efficiency of healing spells cast in the menu depends on the target's Int instead of the caster's. - Guts affects critical hits (1,5x dmg) and defend rolls (halved damage). - Stm -> The amount of Stamina at the start of each battle. Post-battle recovery is remaining Stamina/8 (percent). Stamina is consumed by doing pretty much anything. - Your base Evade (Kaihi) is fixed (ie. won't increase in any way) and varies between characters. - The max level is 255, but you're not really supposed to get anywhere near that figure. - You'll reach 9999 HP around Lv80. - Exp is always divided by the number of active party members even if some characters have been incapacitated (ie. dead, petrified, or paralyzed). Incapacitated characters, however, do not gain Exp, hence their share is simply lost. - The game features an Item Creation system accessed from the sub-menu in the inventory screen. Using one of the IC skills requires three things: materials, base skills and the right Talent. - Materials can be bought in stores, obtained on the field (only in limited quantities; there are no respawning procurement points) and dropped by enemies. - Base skills are bought at skill shops. Once you have them, you have to spend SP on them. The amount of SP gained when leveling up is very roughly 1,5*Lv. - When a character joins the party, they'll start with a small number of random Talents. It's possible, although generally difficult, to learn a Talent by using the skill that requires it. When this happens, the character gains 50 SP. - Abilities not actually used for creating items (such as Ongaku) are accessed from the Tokugi menu. - Milly's AI settings 1. Wareware o daiichi ni - Single target healing: below 2/3 HP. - Multi-target healing: more than one character below 2/3 HP. 2. Sentou o yuuri ni - Single target healing: below 2/3 HP. - Multi-target healing: more than one character below 2/3 HP. - Will also cast support and offensive magic. 3. Hodoyoku kangaete - Single target healing: below 1/6 HP - Multi-target healing: more than one character below 1/3 HP. - Will also cast support magic (with a varying delay) and occasionally offensive magic. 4. Jumon wa tsukawazu ni - Will not use magic. - Milly will not use a healing spell if the max HP of the target or targets is below the base power of the spell. - In the menu, when using healing spells and items that affect a group, it will affect the characters currently displayed (4 at most). - The Sound Player allows you to listen to any music track, sound effect, and voice clip that you've triggered in the game. There are 568 items in total (47 music, 87 sound effects and 434 voice clips). - Two of the music tracks are beta leftovers and can't actually be unlocked. I'm sure there are some sound effects as well. And some of the items could easily be unobtainable due to bugs. - The track that plays during the ending credits is not part of the collection. - The Sound Collection save data is separate from the game save files, There's no in-game way to reset the collection data that I know of. As a result, if you want to start a fresh collection (possibly due to all the items unlocked by previous owners of the game), you'll have to remove the internal battery (or replace it if it's dead). Bugs / Glitches - If a character is petrified and cured, they may not respond to any input for the rest of the battle. Can be fixed for characters other than Rati by going to the AI setting menu. - If you learn a new Talent while playing the violin, the game has a good chance of freezing. They say you should wait until the 'Talent acquired' tune stops playing before you close the message, but it can still crash even if you do that. - Elemental resistance provided by equipment is once again buggy. This time it's a little worse, as there seem to be several items that cause it. - All spells cast by an AI-controlled character equipped with an Emerald Ring will only cost 2 MP. With a Fairy Ring, it's only 1. I would recommend against using these accessories so as not to take advantage of it. - When switching weapons during arena battles, the previously equipped weapon may turn into the weapon you switched to. - When an enemy casts Wounds on you, it never actually hits. If there's an enemy close enough, it'll hit them instead. - The MP cost of waza is shown incorrect for characters in the reserve. - Hayakuchi will not show up on your skill list if you haven't also got both Sentou Lv1 and Lv2. - The Lavender bug will turn the item in the 6th slot of the second page (ie. page down, right, down, down) into Lavender, in which case you'll likely have Lavender in two different slots. It seems fairly common, so make sure you don't have anything important there. - Once, Dispel missed the target apparently because Perisie was doing Shining Dance. - Once, Protection reduced Perisie's DFP to 0. - Once, the game skipped the animation for Raise Dead when I entered a battle with two dead characters. - Not really a bug, but they actually managed to misspell tri-Ace as 'try-Ace' on the label on the cart. You can change any character's name in the status screen. - Once you're in control, I recommend you take a moment to customize the settings. I use Message Speed 1 and set Confirm to Y. I also turn auto-equip off (in the equip menu). The voice acting can't be turned off, which is unfortunate, as your characters will not act or respond to commands until they're done with their quotes. The fastest enemies will be able to use this as an opportunity to land a free hit. - If you're not satisfied with the Talents Rati starts with and don't mind going through the intro again, you could reset and start a new game to re-roll them. He'll always start with Originality, though, and that's really the most important one. - Outside, you'll fight 3 groups of thieves. The boss (16 xp, 190 F) hits hard and fast. Just keep the pressure on. If all else fails, use the Flare Bomb. - Press Cancel during battle to switch the character you control. Note, however, that Rati has no AI. He will simply stand there and do nothing. - The chest with the Talisman is mostly hidden from view. - You can rest in your bed (until you trigger the next event). - After some events, you are to head north to Cool. You can't go to the beach or enter Rati's house at this point. Items: Blueberry, Necklace \\\ Beach || - South of Clatos. Getting these with Rati alone is a little risky. I suggest you get them later. \\\ Path to Cool || Items: Savory, Blueberry, Savory, 200 Fol, Ruby - Unless you're trying to fill your voice collection, I suggest you remove Dorn from the active party (Senjutsu -> Irekae). He's only a TPC and will soon leave your party. You could also remove his equipment. - The game does not employ the kind of world map that they used in ToP. Instead, you have 'the field' - fairly linear paths that connect different areas, mostly towns. When you're on the field, you can save at any time, and you'll typically see a rough map of the continent (toggled on/off with Start). - The chest with the Ruby is mostly hidden from view, located in the area just before Cool. \\\ Cool || Default (Milly): Rod, Robe, Sandals - After the events, Milly joins the party, but she'll soon go MIA for a good while. Unequip her Robe and give it to Rati before she leaves. - You'll be back in Clatos. Check the beach, then head north to Mt. Metox. \\\ Metox Yama || - At the summit, you'll trigger the longest series of events in the game as you meet Ronix and Iria (do *not* look at the screen when teleporting occurs). - If you're planning on using Iria in your final party, I strongly recommend you re-roll Ron's Talents until he starts with Originality. To do so, save before triggering the scene at the summit. After going through the events on the Calnus, you'll need to restart from this save if he doesn't start with it. This could take a few attempts, but, trust me, it's still faster and easier than learning it through IC. (18 minutes per attempt) PC: Iria Lv7 \\\ Calnus || Default (Iria): Budougi, Boots, 45 SP - Once you're in control, ride the elevator all the way down. Next, go talk to the weapons dealer, then return to Badam. You'll receive some weapons and Cius will briefly join the party. If you choose to keep him, you won't be able to get Ashlay. If you're planning on keeping him, make sure he starts with Originality. - Go rest at the inn, then talk to Badam one more time to obtain the Tsuukoushou. - If you're satisfied with your Talents, you should create a copy of your save file, so you don't have to worry about them when you do a new playthrough. - You can use Liqueur Bottles to cure Petrification and Paralysis (No, not 'liquor.' The stress is on the second syllable.). These two ailments are now an even greater threat (especially Petrification), since there's less space between you and the enemy and the check accessories have been nerfed to provide only partial immunity, while also having a chance to break. The bee-type enemies have a dive attack that has double ATP. - The entrance to the abandoned mines (Haikou) is just near the beginning, although if you try to explore it now, you'll get owned. With a little luck, though, you might be able to get the two chests closest to the entrance (Blueberry and Emerald Ring). As I already mentioned, I would recommend against using Emerald Rings (or Fairy Rings), because of the MP cost bug. The choice is yours, though. Either way, only mages can equip them. Iria can't learn this Talent. - If you talk to one of the NPCs at the harbor, you'll be given a chance to abandon the errand Badam gave you. The reward isn't much, but I suggest you complete the task nonetheless. The only reason I get him is so I can get the Kouryuu skills (which I never actually use, but I just like having them). Either way, first, you need to talk to him at the arena. He's in the audience on the north side. After talking to him, he'll walk away. Next, go beat Rank H at the arena. After that, head out and save then go to the harbor to find Ashlay there. Choose the first option and he'll join. Reset if he doesn't start with Originality. - Ashlay will give Kouryuu to Rati later in the game, but only if his affinity is high enough. The key is to keep Ashlay in your party during bosses. - Note that the time window for getting Ashlay is incredibly short. He'll disappear from the audience after you've triggered the scene where the two guards are killed by Fear's doppelgänger. If you're interested in getting him, you need to choose *now*. Then again, if you kept Cius in your party, he won't be there anyway. - I suggest you beat Rank F with both Rati and Iria so you can sell the Trumpets for 60k each. This'll help you with IC a little later. You should leave it at that, though, until you can get Tinek. - You're fully healed when you take on the arena. You can't keep the items the enemies may drop. - In any case, you need to get to the town of Astral. You can either take the ship (if you got Ashlay, you already did) or go through the Astral Cave. \\\ Astral Doukutsu || Items: Aquaberry, Blackberry, Blueberry, Spectacles, 1200 Fol, Necklace, Saber, Fresh Bottle, Claymore, Hard Knuckle, Flare Bomb, Reverse Doll, Poison Check Items (nc): Sapphire, Sapphire, Crystal, Silver, Iron - You'll likely have to do a couple of hours of grinding before you can survive here. I'd recommend at least Lv20. The Armed Knights are the main concern here. They have 150 ATP and can deal very serious damage with their sword throw attack (with a DFP of 130, you'll still take about 100 pod per hit). The other enemies are nowhere near as dangerous. - The Mandrake-type enemies have a slow blast attack that ignores defense. - You can find some minerals by examining the crystals. - There are two one-way doors here. One near the first save point, another one near the third and last save point. I would recommend against it (second choice on the second one), so you can start doing IC as soon as possible. If you do go there, you'll have the chance of adding Joshua to your party, but I definitely recommend against that. - Head to Tropp. On your way, you'll see a starship crash near Clato. You'll need to go and take a closer look. You can take a ship to Portmis from Tropp. - After inspecting the ship, you have to walk all the way back to Tropp, so you can catch a ship to the Van continent. That stuff is pretty expensive, though. - There's also a shop that has minerals, but you're better off making them through Renkin. Items: Magic Card, Resurrect Bottle \\\ Ionis || PCs: Ronix Lv20, Marvel Lv20 Default (Ronix): (Brigandy), (Leather Boots), 70 SP Default (Marvel): Raven Orb (Unique), Silver Robe, Sandals, 70 SP Shop: Smith Hammer 600 Fol Brigandy 1200 Fol Research Pen 400 Fol China Shoes 1200 Fol Creator Pen 120 Fol Iron 10 Fol Magic Card 70 Fol Hato no Esa 1 Fol Magic Color 2000 Fol - If you have Ashlay, Marvel *will* join your party. If you have Cius, she won't. If you have no optional PCs, you can choose whether or not to take her. - Ron's spells: Firebolt, Grave, Wind Blade, Shadow Bolt, Eruption, Earth Glaive, Thunder Bolt, Wounds. - It's time for some IC. - You can start by writing skill books. Use Iria or Ashlay. If they didn't start with Bunsai, they can easily learn it. I myself use Ashlay at first, so I don't have to spend SP to boost Iria's skills to level 1. The books will allow you to increase 16 skills up to Lv7 without spending a single SP. The Research Pens will cost you, though, so you need to focus on the skills that really count (see below). Iria | Shippitsu, Art, (Saiku), (Katanakaji), (Ongaku) Milly | Renkin, (Saiku) Ratix | Katanakaji, (Saiku) - You need to get Milly's Renkin to Lv10. The books will get it to Lv7, but after that it's time to level up (probably a nice change of pace from all the menu handling). You need to go back to Astral at first, though, since she can't survive here (Kobold Kings have about 185 ATP, and she simply can't handle that). Get her Seibutsugaku to Lv7 for an HP boost. Renkin is needed to get the most out of Katanakaji and Saiku. You can also use it to make money by creating and selling Rainbow Diamonds (25 000 each) and Kenja no Ishis (150 000 each). Once you get Saiku high (Lv7), you can try crafting Magical Drops (500 000) from Rainbow Diamonds (if you create a Dream Crown or Magic Mist instead, keep them). You can also use Katanakaji and sell something like Dragon Lances (400 000). Duplicating Rainbow Diamonds is faster than using Renkin, but it's more expensive. I usually use Renkin myself (takes about 40 Iron to get one). - Use Katanakaji to get some better weapons. Lv5-6 should be enough. Even at high levels, you may have to do a lot of resetting. Always reset when you fail. - Rati: You already have one Long Sword +1, but to make more of them, fuse Sinclair with Damascus. The Duel Sword (LS+1 + Meteorite) is a great choice for starters. It's the most powerful non-elemental sword Rati can have (be careful with Meteorite, though; you need to dupe it to get more of it). His custom weapon, Aura Blade, is indeed Light-elemental, but there aren't many cases where that'll be a problem. Customize doesn't have to be higher than Lv3. - Iria: Well, first off, if Ron didn't start with Originality, you may as well forget about getting Iria's ultimate weapon. Unless you're up for a challenge, I would recommend you don't waste time trying to learn it (just settle for the Dragon Claw). However, if you think you're up for it, go ahead. Give it a shot. Buy the Violin and get Iria's Ongaku to Lv10. If she doesn't have both Rhythm Kan and Onkan, she needs to learn them. Make 5 Metal Fangs (Hard Knuckle + Silver for Knuckle +1, and Knuckle +1 + Rune Metal for Metal Fang) and have Ron attempt to Customize them while Iria plays Violin 2. You'll likely spend hours resetting, but it's possible. You could try fighting a battle every now and then to mix things up with the RNG. - Keep in mind, in some cases, the item you create may be unidentified. Most of it will be the failed stuff, but it might be a successful item as well. Leave the useless junk unidentified, so you can easily tell them apart. - Once you get your Saiku to a high skill level, you should try getting some accessories. Even at high levels, though, it'll be difficult to succeed. At the very least, get some Stone Checks. If or when going for Dream Crowns, you should use two Rainbow Diamonds before resetting. What I did myself was fight a battle after most attempts in order to affect the RNG. Even so, it can take an hour to get a single one. - Once you've got the weapons you want, you should start boosting your fighting skill levels (ie. Edarl Kenjutsu, Kakutoujutsu, etc.). The immediate effect is that it will decrease the MP cost of battle skills (1 point at levels 2, 5, 7 and 10). It also makes it possible to learn new waza once you've obtained Ougi teachings (they'll show up in the Skill menu, but you can't allocate SP into them). \\\ Van I Il || Items: Spectacles, Mind Bomb, Resurrect Mist, Emerald Ring Shop: Sansetsukon 3000 Fol Plate Mail 2600 Fol Bagh Nakh 220 Fol Silver Robe 500 Fol Gladius 500 Fol Pretty Bikini 600 Fol Crossbow 1200 Fol Plate Helm 720 Fol Leather Boots 45 Fol Knight Shield 500 Fol Budou Shoes 920 Fol Artemis Leaf 320 Fol - 3x Sansetsukon, Crossbow, Plate Mail, 2x Plate Helms, 2x Leather Boots, Budou Shoes = 15 250 Fol - You can use Chougou to mix Lavender with Artemis Leaves to create Resurrect Bottles and Resurrect Mist. Mixing Mandrake and Artemis Leaves creates Fruit Pots (45% HP & MP) and Fresh Bottles (100% HP). Unfortunately, they don't sell Mandrake here. - After seeing the king, you'll be directed to the Shiren no Meikyuu. You should go back and get the two chests in the castle first, though. Items: Mythril (Artifact), Stone Check \\\ Shiren no Meikyuu || Item (nc): Van Emblem (Key) Special: Shiseijuu (Ougi) Boss: Peryton (+3x Whispers) - This is a short dungeon, but the switch puzzle can be problematic. The enemies will be tough as well if you haven't been building up or doing IC. The IC weapons will allow you to cut through your opponents quite easily, but unless you get the most powerful Ougi skills, you won't be doing that much longer. - Spend your Mythril wisely. There's a limited amount of it available. - After the save point, you'll find the infamous switch puzzle. Okay, so, there are 7 switches. Give them numbers from left to right. 4 is the one you have to hit in order to reach the others. Hit the switches 3, 5 and 7 in addition to that and you can proceed. xxx x 123 567 4 [Boss] FWTIELDV - 6800 HP, WR I - 2400 xp, 830 Fol in total - A fairly difficult battle even with IC weapons. His attacks have a small chance of petrifying you. - Don't forget: To easily increase Ashlay's affinity, you need to have him in your active party during bosses. - After completing the trial, you'll be awarded with the Shiseijuu Ougi. This gives Rati and Iria (and Cius) a chance to learn new waza when using certain battle skills (see below). Your fighting skill level has to be pretty high before that's likely to happen, though. The odds are greatly increased in bosses. In any case, none of these are particularly impressive, but pretty soon you'll be able to get the truly lethal stuff. The one move you have to get, though, is Genbu Haouken. Rati - Shoureiha -> Souryuu Seiraizan - Shouretsuha -> Suzaku Shougekiha Iria - Kikoushou -> Souryuu Seiraiha - Kikoushuu -> Genbu Haouken - Renkiken -> Byakko Kouhadan - Ryuuseishou -> Suzaku Shougekiha - Kikoushou is the first waza on the list (both Short Range and Long Range), Kikoushuu is SR only. The first two symbols are the same. Item: Mental Ring \\\ Van Region || - This one's completely hidden. It's in the area after the guards and the bridge. A very useful accessory, as it recovers your MP during battle. Anyone can equip it. You may want to dupe it for all your fighters. \\\ Sylvarant Region || Items: Kenja no Ishi -ID, Diamond, Magic Card - Petro Grells can petrify you, and they do so with high efficiency. Stone Checks might help, but even then your chances aren't that great. Occasionally, they may even paralyze you. You should save after every successful battle. For what it's worth, you can cure Petrification with Dispel, Liqueur Bottles and Cure Stone (which you can buy soon). Note that you're very likely run into the Petrification glitch (ie. if Rati is petrified, he won't respond to commands in that battle even if he's cured). - There's nothing of real interest in Dulce. - The entrance to Sylvarant Iseki is a little east of Sylvarant, in the area with a sign after the cave. \\\ Sylvarant || Items: Damascus, Sapphire, Resurrect Mist, Blueberry, Damascus Items (nc): Sylva Emblem (Key), Elder Key (Key) Shop: Walloon Sword 2000 Fol Steel Armor 5200 Fol Cestus 4500 Fol Battle Suit 10 000 Fol Halberd 3400 Fol Neko Suit 20 000 Fol Baselard 2500 Fol Holy Cloak 10 000 Fol Flamberge 7100 Fol Steel Helm 1600 Fol Crest Rod 1200 Fol Silver Greaves 2000 Fol Arbalest 5000 Fol Fine Shield 1200 Fol Santa Boots 4 500 000 Fol Cure Stone 1000 Fol Tri-Emblem 8 000 765 Fol - Crest Rod, Steel Armor, Battle Suit, Neko Suit, Holy Cloak, Fine Shield = 47 600 Fol - You can't start a Private Action here yet. - If Milly didn't join you in Ecdart, she'll join you here (albeit with a heavily penalized affinity rating). - Go see the king. Your next objective is to obtain the royal emblems of Astral and Mua. You can now sail freely between any of the port towns. Tinek, Perisie and Fear are now available. Special: Shichisei (Ougi) \\\ Tatoroi || PC: Tinek Lv20 Default (Tinek): Kon, Budougi, Sandals - Have Rati beat Rank D at the arena and Tinek [Tiniiku] will join the party (first dialog option). - Beat Rank C as well to obtain Shichisei. This allows Rati to learn three new waza, of which Shichisei Souhazan is quite devastating. Get it asap. Use Souhazan constantly (give him the Mental Ring) until he learns it. - There are 4 characters in total who can obtain Shichisei by beating Rank C: Rati, Tinek, Marvel, Cius (Ashlay has it by default). Rati - Raimeiken -> Shichisei Raimeiken - Senkouken -> Shichisei Senkouken - Souhazan -> Shichisei Souhazan - Tinek's custom weapon, Houtengeki, is Thunder-elemental, so you'll have to switch back to the Dragon Lance on some occasions. - Note that if Tinek doesn't start with Yasei no Kan, he has a solid chance of learning it. Just give him one level of Kikenkanchi and have him use Scout. If you do learn it, it happens just as you change the Scout setting. You need to leave the Scout menu between attempts. - When fighting at the Arena, you'll be provided with some healing items you can use during the challenge (2x Sweet Pot, Mix Syrup, Blackberry), as you can't use your own this time around. There are two possible rewards for each rank (listed in the misc. section). Which one you get depends on which character you used. - In order to get Perisie, you need to go all the way back to Clato. If you want to get Fear instead (a very good character, no doubt), then just pick her up at Astral. - This can be a tough choice. Fear uses ranged attacks almost exclusively, hence her damage is nearly always multiplied by 1,5. Her selection of waza doesn't have anything exceptionally impressive and includes only one energy-based attack. However, her normal attack is so good, it doesn't really matter. It can hit multiple enemies twice, sometimes more than twice. She can't match the other fighters in terms of ATP, but getting her Renki to Lv10 helps. - I usually get Perisie myself due to the fact that I already have 3 great characters. Plus, then I'll be able to get the Bunny Whistle as a bonus. PC: Perisie Lv5 \\\ Clato || Default (Perisie): Somatsu na Bikini, 50 SP - Equip the Ocarina, save the game and start a PA. Talk to Milly and choose the third dialog option. Next, play the Ocarina (just hit Confirm while not facing anyone). After the event, Perisie will join. If she doesn't start with Originality, reset and try again. She can't learn it that easily. - Note that you can't get Perisie if you have fewer than 6 characters. - Just like Tinek, Perisie can learn Yasei no Kan very easily. She'll likely start with it, though. - Perisie starts with 50 SP, which is conveniently just enough to learn Customize. Customize a Neko Fang (Knuckle +1/2 + Orichalcum) to get her ultimate weapon, the Q Kyoku Punch. - You'll need to level up your new characters if you want them to stay alive. Building up more than 4 characters is indeed somewhat troublesome, so sooner or later you should decide on your final party of 4 characters. In the end, though, you only need to choose 2. Rati is completely mandatory and Milly is virtually mandatory. I don't see anyone surviving the rest of the game without her. - Either way, a good place to level up at first is the Van region. - Also, if you haven't gotten a bunch of Stone Checks yet, make them now. Petrification will continue to be a grave issue for... as long as you keep playing the game. \\\ Mua Jou || Items: (Gouka na Ken, Gouka na Tsue, Gouka na Ken, Gouka na Robe, Gouka na Tsue, Gouka na Robe, Gouka na Yoroi, Gouka na Ken), Cure Stone, Hakke Ougisho (Artifact), Cure Paralyze, Neko Ougi, Resurrect Bottle, Hakke Ougisho (Artifact), Mental Ring Items (nc): 20 000 Fol, Piyohan, Mua Emblem (Key) Special: 50 SP Boss: Succubus (+2x Shadow Beasts) - Head to the Mua Castle in Portmis. Start a Private Action and find Perisie at the castle gates. Choose the second dialog option. You'll be back in the dungeon (you can't open any of the chests during this event, by the way). It's just Rati and Perisie, but you only need to check the second room. After some dialog, you'll be warped out. Item (nc): Bunny Whistle (Unique) \\\ Hot || - Start a Private Action and go to the skill shop to trigger an event. The doors they open have card readers nearby but not always right next to them. The readers have two small, blinking, red or blue lights. - The Furakku Shapes and Duel Shapes have 900 DFP, but it doesn't really matter if you're using 'the good stuff' (Ouka Hakkeshou, Suigetsu). If you don't have those, you'll have to use energy-based attacks (Shoureiha, Kikoushou). In case you forgot, energy-based attacks ignore defense, evade and the element of your weapon. This way, Rati can also take out Male Shapes (who absorb Light) even if he's using the Aura Blade. - Once you have the red keycard, you can use it to get out of the area with the three switches on the floor even if you flip the lowest one. This allows you to access the room where you find the blue keycard. - After the second save point, there is a door that requires a password. The password is 'Chikiyuu,' - After the events that follow, you'll be back in Van. - Again, you're looking at very high defense. Casting Growth is an option.
- If you have Milly's AI set to 2 or 3, make sure you've got Delay

- His force field attack (3060 base) is likely the only Thunder-elemental
enemy attack in the game.
|
[Boss] FWTIELDV
- 32 000 HP, 534 ATP, 900 DFP RRRRRRR
- He can shield himself to nullify all damage. When he's below 50% HP,
he'll use two techniques during which he's also shielded. One of them
is a laser blast that hits all characters (2080). It's Dark-elemental,
so equipping Silver Ankhs will allow you to nullify it. The other one
has Jie heal himself for 5500 HP.
- His ATP is lower this time, but his attacks are far more dangerous.
- Protection is a good choice.
- After the ending, a star will be added to your save file. This means
that you can use Oracle to warp to the Oracle Room. From there, you can
warp to either Tatoroi or the end of Revorse Tower. When you warp to
Tatoroi, you'll be right in front of the entrance to the Shichisei no

Traps
B19: 2x Demonic Eye back attack with you starting at 1 HP. Really not
all that hard. This'll be a regular encounter below B20 (minus the
HP thing). You just need to take the advantage with a long range skill
(like Muhyoutoukon) and keep the pressure on.
B29a: 2x Evil Terratos with you starting at 1 HP.
B29b: 2x Dark Stalkers with you starting at 1 HP.
- You'll find the boss on the lowest level (B30). This is the single
hardest battle in the entire game. You'll want to warp out and save
before trying it.
[Boss]
- 32 000 HP, 1134 ATP
- The Resphina is of a different color than the one you can encounter
normally, but I think it's still the same.
- Beating this one will take either a lot of grinding or a lot of luck.
They've got a high critical hit rate, so usually you'll get stunned and
then maimed to death without getting any chance to attack. If Milly goes
down, it's all over. If you just can't do it, don't feel too bad about it.

Alternate events
(Astral with Cius)
- After the event, choose the second option to explore the town.
- Once you're ready, stay at the inn.
- Fear temporarily joins the party as you chase Darth Widow.
(Astral without Cius or Ashlay)
Default (Fear Lv15): Gladius, Ring Mail, Knight Shield, Plate Greaves,
Astral Ring (Unique) (can't be removed), 50 SP
- When you reach Astral, you'll go to the inn. Choose the first dialog
option to rest. The next day, you can find Fear locked in the castle
dungeon (the place might be a little hard to find - you can access it
from the northwest part of the castle). Talk to the guard and he'll let
you see her.
- The guard won't let you through anymore once you've triggered the
scene with the crashing starship. Once again, the time window is very
narrow.
- When talking to her, choose the second dialog option, then the first,
and the first again. After that, go knock out the guard. Then, you'll
need to go through Astral Doukutsu. Fear joins the party at this point,
but she may still leave depending on your dialog choices after the cave.
- When you reach Tatoroi, choose the first option twice. Anything else
and she'll leave. After that, you have to complete Purge Shinden before
you can trigger the scene with the crashing starship.
- You can still return to Astral through the cave, but Fear will stay
behind and wait for you in Tatoroi.
- NOTE: You *cannot* obtain Fear's Bushin ougi if you get her this way.
(Purge Shinden after defeating Darth Widow or after helping Fear escape)
Default (Joshua Lv15): Rod, Silk Robe, Sandals, Flare Ring,
Feather Ring (Unique) (can't be removed)
- If you managed to survive in the Astral Cave, you should be able to
survive in Purge Shinden. It's got another one of those knight-type
enemies, but although they're faster and have more HP than the Armed
Knight, their ATP is actually a little lower.
- Joshua will join the party in the middle of the dungeon.
- Spells: Ice Needle, Grave, Wind Blade, Blizzard, Heal, Cure All
- Joshua doesn't have any Fire-elemental spells (whereas Ron doesn't
have any Water-elemental spells). He has 3 healing spells in addition
to attack magic, but they're not powerful enough to make him a viable
replacement for Milly late in the game.
- To keep him in your party, choose the first dialog options after
completing the dungeon. To let him go, choose the second one.
(Foster's cabin near Ecdart with Joshua)
Items: Dwarven Helm, Shadow Flower, Dwarven Boots -ID, Dwarven Guard,
Lavender, Blueberry, Dwarven Mail -ID, Spectacles
Item (nc): Elven Bow (Unique)
- Joshua will talk to you outside Ecdart. After that, you can take the
hidden path behind the trees to reach Foster's cabin (you can go take
care of the reunion first and get some new gear as well). Choose the first
dialog option to agree to take care of the monsters. You'll fight a number
of fixed battles against Grells and Dragonflies in the forest behind the
cabin. Afterwards, you'll obtain the Elven Bow.
- You *cannot* access these areas if you don't have Joshua. The items you
find here are decent for the time being, but even so I would not recommend
getting Joshua.

- Note the difference between, for instance, double damage and double ATP.
Double ATP means your ATP is indeed doubled for the base calculation,
whereas double damage means the damage is doubled *after* the calculation,
======= Ratix ======= (Def: Lv1)
Shouretsuha | Lv3 | 3 | aR | | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Rati creates a shockwave that circles around him 270 degrees. 0,5x damage.
Only worth using when there are two or more enemies near you.
Gurenken | Lv7 | 6 | SR | F |
-----------------------------------------------
Two hits at 0,75x damage. Usually only hits once (if that).
Senkouken | Lv10 | 5 | | | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Shoot balls of energy in random directions. Makes the screen flash red,
which is painful to look at.
Raimeiken | Lv12 | 5 | SR | T |
-----------------------------------------------
Double ATP. Slow and easy to interrupt.
Kuuhazan | Lv16 | 9 | LR | I | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Majinken with a switched element and better damage (1,0x).
Souhazan | Lv20 | 11 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
A nerfed Kogahazan. Two hits at normal damage. The first one tends to miss.
Shoureiha | Lv25 | 8 | aR | | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Shoot an energy blast. Normal damage.
Kouryuuha | Lv29 | 13 | SR | | enr
-----------------------------------------------

Shouretsuha at 1,0x damage
Shichisei Senkouken| 7s | 25 | SR | F | enr

Create a pillar that moves forward (Fire-elemental, 0,5x damage) while
shooting balls of energy.
Shichisei Raimeiken| 7s | 15 | SR | T | +enr
-----------------------------------------------
Double ATP physical + 1,5x energy-based.
Shichisei Souhazan | 7s | 27 | SR | | +enr
-----------------------------------------------
2 physical hits at normal damage followed by 2 energy-based waves at
1,5x damage. Rati's best move.
Kokuryuu Tenraiha | Kr | 30 | LR | D | enr (Kouryuu)
-----------------------------------------------
Hit all enemies at double damage.
The three Kouryuu wazas only differ in element.
Souryuu Tenraiha | Kr | 30 | LR | W | enr (Souryuu Seiraizan)
-----------------------------------------------
Hiryuu Tenraiha | Kr | 30 | LR | F | enr (Suzaku Shougekiha)
-----------------------------------------------
(The kana in the description says Hiryuutenraraiha, but this is a typo.)
======= Iria ======= (Def: Lv7)
Kikoushou | Lv9 | 5 | aR | | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Shoot an energy blast. Normal damage. One of the few wazas worth using
with Iria.
Ryuuseishou | Lv15 | 7 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
One hit at 1,5x ATP. Often misses / gets interrupted.
Kikoushuu | Lv20 | 8 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
2 hits at 1,5x damage. Usually only hits once.
Renkiken | Lv25 | 7 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
4 hits at normal damage.
Souryuu Seiraiha | 4b | 9 | aR | | enr (Kikoushou)
-----------------------------------------------
Kikoushou at 1,5x damage.
Genbu Haouken | 4b | 15 | SR | | +enr (Kikoushuu)
-----------------------------------------------
Kikoushuu with an extra energy-based attack.
Byakko Kouhadan | 4b | 12 | SR | | (Renkiken)
-----------------------------------------------
Two hits at double ATP. Way too slow.
Suzaku Shougekiha | 4b | 11 | LR | F | (Ryuuseishou)
-----------------------------------------------
One slow hit at double ATP. Worthless.
Ouka Hakkeshou | Hak | 18 | SR | | (Genbu Haouken)
-----------------------------------------------
A flurry of blows at double ATP. 4 hits max. Delightfully lethal.
Uraouka Sakkou | Ura | 23 | SR | | (Ouka Hakkeshou)
-----------------------------------------------
Ouka Hakkeshou with one extra hit. Not worth the extra 5 MP.
======= Tinek ======= (Def: Lv20)
Senpuukon | - | 4 | aR | |
-----------------------------------------------
Two hits at normal damage. Usually misses. Complete garbage.
Shippuukon | Lv22 | 6 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
Two hits at 1,5x ATP. Usually only hits once.
Muhyoutoukon | Lv26 | 10 | LR | |
-----------------------------------------------
Bunch of projectiles dealing 1,0x damage each plus the usual ranged
modifier bringing it to 1,5x. *Not* energy-based and *not* Water-elemental.
Suigetsuryoudanha | Lv30 | 12 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
Normal attack at triple ATP. Absolutely *devastating*. An image of a
splitting moon is displayed whenever it kills an enemy. You'll be
seeing that a lot.
Haoushippuukon | Lv35 | 18 | aR | |
-----------------------------------------------
Shippuukon with 2 more hits. Now you can look and feel *twice* as stupid
when you try to hit something with it.
Gurensenpuukon | Hak | 10 | aR | F | (Senpuukon)
-----------------------------------------------
Fire-elemental Senpuukon at double ATP.
Shippuuharikeen | Hak | 14 | SR | | +enr (Shippuukon)
-----------------------------------------------
Two hits (normal damage) followed by two energy waves at 1,5x damage.
Ouka Hakkeshou | Hak | 19 | LR | | enr (Haoushippuukon)
-----------------------------------------------
Shoot an energy blast. Double damage.
Shichisei Ranbu | 7s | 24 | SR | | (Ouka Hakkeshou)
-----------------------------------------------
A flurry of hits. Normal damage, 4 hits max. Only worth using if you
have the enemy pinned down, I'd stick with Suigetsu.
======= Milly ======= (Def: Lv1)
- Protection (Lv16): Increase the party's DFP by 50%. The effect seems
to last for the rest of the battle and won't disappear even if you die.
- Growth (Lv38): Increase one character's ATP by 50%. Milly will cast
this on settings 2 and 3 if a character deals damage that is less than
1/16 of the enemy's mHP. Ranged attacks and energy-based attacks don't
trigger the flag, though.
- Raise Dead (Lv46): Revive a dead character. In battle, with 25% HP.
In the menu, with 25% + Yakusougaku bonus.
- Power = Base + Int Modifier

======= Perisie ======= (Def: Lv1)
Multiple Punch | Lv11 | 5 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
Garbage. Slow start-up, two hits. The first one has double ATP, the
second one does 1,5x damage. Doesn't hit well.
Shining Dance | Lv13 | 7 | LR | | enr
-----------------------------------------------
1,5x energy-based. A little too slow.
Ei Ya To | Lv17 | 15 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
3 hits in quick succession, normal damage. The range is very limited
and usually only hits once or twice. Worth using if you trap the enemy
against the wall.
Charming Pose | Lv22 | 16 | LR | |
-----------------------------------------------
Sends a raburabu projectile at each enemy. Double ATP + ranged modifier.
Prismic Dance | Lv25 | 15 | LR | | N/A
-----------------------------------------------
Restore 30% HP for all characters.
Sora o Miro | Lv27 | 6 | LR | | N/A
-----------------------------------------------
Distract the enemy for a very short moment.
Spread Missile | Lv30 | 13 | LR | F | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Fruit that explodes. 0,5x. Thoroughly unimpressive, but you might end up
using it to start your LR chains for the simple lack of better alternatives.
Nerichagi | Lv34 | 17 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
One hit at triple ATP. Great damage, but it lacks range and isn't fast
enough to hit consistently.
Panic Dance | Lv36 | 16 | LR | | N/A
-----------------------------------------------
Attempt to stun all enemies. The stun lasts for 4 seconds.
Fairly slow to pull off and might not even work.
Magical Dance | Neko | 60 | LR | | N/A (Shining Dance)
-----------------------------------------------
Restore 10% MP for other characters.
JP Somersault | Neko | 18 | SR | | (Nerichagi)
-----------------------------------------------
3 hits, last at double ATP. Unless you have the enemy pinned against
the wall, the second hit will virtually never hit, thus rendering the
move easy to interrupt.
Dream Combo | Neko | 28 | SR | | (Ei Ya To)
-----------------------------------------------
A potentially long chain of hits at 0,25x ATP.
======= Fear ======= (Def: Lv15)
Raven Sword | Lv16 | 6 | aR | |
-----------------------------------------------
A normal attack with a little more range. Wow.
Dancing Sword | Lv20 | 9 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
Pull the enemy close with a projectile, then hit them up close. Worthless.
3-Way | Lv24 | 14 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
A modified normal attack with 3 projectiles and wider range. A good choice.
3-Volley | Lv28 | 12 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
A normal attack with 3 projectiles and longer range.
Aqua Spread | Lv32 | 17 | LR | W | enr
-----------------------------------------------
A linear, Water-elemental attack. 3 hits max. Fear's only energy-based
attack.
Galaxy GB | Lv37 | 22 | LR | |
-----------------------------------------------
(Galaxy God Breath). 0,5x + ranged modifier for 0,75x per hit.
Slow to pull off. Stick with 3-Way.
Sylvan Shot | Bshn | 25 | LR | | (3-Way)
-----------------------------------------------
6 hits at 0,5x + ranged modifier.
Unholy Terror | Bshn | 29 | aR | | (Galaxy GB)
-----------------------------------------------
Normal ranged damage with a habit of missing. Not worth using.
Victory Terror | Bshn | 31 | aR | | (Unholy Terror)
-----------------------------------------------
A slightly enhanced Unholy Terror. Still not worth using.
======= Cius ======= (Def: Lv7)
Shouretsuha | Lv9 | 5 | SR | | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Shockwave that swirls 270 degrees. 0,5x.
Shoureiha | Lv13 | 7 | aR | | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Shoot an energy blast. Normal damage.
Souhazan | Lv18 | 10 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
Two hits at normal damage.
Raimeiken | Lv22 | 9 | SR | T | +enr
-----------------------------------------------
Stab + lightning blast. Normal damage.
======= Ashlay ======= (Def: Lv15)
Souhazan | - | 4 | SR | |
-----------------------------------------------
Two hits at normal damage. Connects better than Rati's.
Shouretsuha | - | | SR | | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Shockwave that swirls 270 degrees. 0,5x.
Raimeiken | Lv18 | | SR | T | +enr
-----------------------------------------------
Physical hit followed by a thunder bolt.
Gurenken | Lv23 | | LR | F | +enr
-----------------------------------------------
Physical hit followed by fireballs that shoot in several directions.
I don't know why this is LR only. He has to run all the way up close
to use it.
Senkouken | Lv28 | | aR | | +enr
-----------------------------------------------
Physical hit followed by an energy blast.
Souryuu Seiraizan | Lv32 | | aR | | +enr
-----------------------------------------------
Physical hit followed by an energy blast. 1,5x damage.
Suzaku Shougekiha | Lv36 | | aR | F | +enr
-----------------------------------------------
Physical hit followed by an energy blast, 1,5x damage.
Shichisei Raimeiken| 7s | | SR | T | +enr (Raimeiken)
-----------------------------------------------
Physical hit followed by a thunder bolt that does two hits (first at
1,5x, second at 1,0x).
Shichisei Souhazan | 7s | | SR | | (Souhazan)
-----------------------------------------------
Souhazan at double ATP. Unfortunately, for some reason, it doesn't
connect as well as the regular one and usually only hits once.
======= Marvel ======= (Def: Lv20)
Raven Orb | - | 6 | aR | |
-----------------------------------------------
A fairly quick ranged attack. Unfortunately, Marvel herself is not
very quick, which limits its potential.
Flare Orb | Lv23 | 8 | LR | F | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Send a projectile that deals normal damage. Followed by a little
non-elemental explosion that does 2 hits at 0,5x damage. Too slow.
Hail Orb | Lv27 | 9 | LR | W | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Send a spirit that sends projectiles at most or all enemies. Normal damage.
Thunder Orb | Lv30 | 11 | LR | T | enr
-----------------------------------------------
Just like Flare Orb, only Thunder-elemental.
Arc Crystal | Lv34 | 18 | LR | | N/A
-----------------------------------------------
Attempt to reduce the enemy's ATP to 0. Lasts for 10 seconds.
Seal Crystal | Lv38 | 23 | LR | | N/A
-----------------------------------------------
Attempt to prevent the enemy from moving. Lasts for 10 seconds.
Death Crystal | Lv52 | 40 | LR | | N/A
-----------------------------------------------
Send a projectile. When it hits, it will either (1) cause instant death,
(2) deal damage that equals half the enemy's cHP, or (3) miss and do
nothing. Some enemies are immune to it.
Southern Cross | 7s | 16 | LR | V | enr (Flare Orb)
-----------------------------------------------
Hit all enemies.
Seventh Star | 7s | 19 | LR | V | enr (Hail Orb)
-----------------------------------------------
Hit all enemies at 1,5x damage.
Galaxy | 7s | 26 | LR | V | enr (Thunder Orb)
-----------------------------------------------
Hit all enemies at 1,5x damage. Basically the same as Seventh Star,
only it costs 7 more MP and produces a flashing screen you shouldn't
look at. Maybe it was meant to do double damage.

- Fighting style levels and battle support skills of course have nothing
to do with IC, but they're in the skill menu, so...
- Increasing the level of a character's fighting style decreases the MP
cost of waza (1 point at levels 2, 5, 7, and 10) and allows the character
to learn Ougis.
- Link Combo gives you another set of waza slots at levels 1, 5, and 10.
Shougekiha
- Decreases defense upon activating. When it does, enemy DFP is multiplied
(by 0,6 at Lv10).
Shinkuuha
- Increase knockback when attacking. DON'T EVER INCREASE THIS SKILL!
Mekuri
- Try to run behind the enemy when attacking. DON'T EVER INCREASE THIS SKILL!
Hangeki
- Chance to counterattack. Will not activate if the character is currently
player-controlled. Worth increasing for Rati and Fear, but not sure about
other characters, since nearly all of your damage should come from waza
late in the game.
Feint
- Chance to ignore evade.
Renki
- Increases damage upon activating. When it does, DFP is ignored and
ATP is increased by a variable whose exact nature escapes me.
