Walkthrough for Kuusou Kagaku Sekai Galliver Boy Version 1.0 November 20, 2002 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Intro: This is a walkthrough/guide for the SNES game Kuusou Kagaku Sekai Galliver Boy (a.k.a. Gulliver Boy). The game was only released in Japan, but was translated about a year and a half ago. This is a fairly simple game, but this guide will cover the few items available, who to talk to, what to do and in what order. The game will only take a few hours to beat, but is still fun to play. It's a good choice for people who think that most RPGs take to long and require hours spent leveling up. Questions and/or comments can be sent to skater43@hotpop.com. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Other FAQs/walkthroughs by the author: NES: Kero Kero Keroppi no Daibouken (a.k.a. Kero Kero Keroppi's Big Adventure 1) NES: Doraemon: Giga Zombie no Gyakushuu (a.k.a. Doraemon RPG) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Basic information: The controls aren't complicated, but they're a little different from other games. The direction pad moves the party around. The X button will switch which character is active. Only one character is active (can attack/be attacked) at a time. When characters are not active, they will slowly regain any hit points they might have lost (Edison will also regain his bombs). Gulliver will regain his Mind Matter (and Misty her Ray Ring) whether he's the active character or not. Knowing when to switch characters is an important skill throughout the game. Gulliver is the most readily available fighter, but his Maken Glove won't work against all enemies, or may do less damage than the other characters' attacks. The A button is used to attack, either Gulliver's Maken Glove, Misty's Ray Ring, or Edison's bombs. A is also used to advance dialogue. The Y button is used for Gulliver's disk attacks and Misty's Blue Stone spells. Start brings up the subscreen. From here you can use any healing items you might have picked up. Also, if Gulliver is active, you can choose which disk you are currently using (or Misty's Blue Stone spell if she's active) by choosing the icon on the far right (looks like a piece of paper) and pressing A. Whenever you choose a disk, the game will tell you the attack power of that disk, and what it does. The B button closes the subscreen. The L and R buttons are only used for punching in one boss battle. Select is not used at all. The game is rather short, and you really won't be spending much time leveling up throughout it. I beat the game with Misty at level 10, Gulliver at level 11. It doesn't matter who defeats the enemies, as who gets the experience points is random. Enemies will drop 10 experience point bars of various colors. The color dictates who can pick them up to get the experience: pink for Gulliver, green for Edison, and yellow for Misty. Bosses sometimes drop 100 point bars that anyone can collect (I suggest Gulliver takes those because he's the person you'll mostly be fighting with). Also, if you spend too much time collecting in one area, the enemies will start dropping 1 point bars that anyone can collect. Every time you gain a level your hit points are refilled. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Items: There are four usable items in the game. Items can only be used by the active character. These items are sometimes left behind by defeated enemies. Hearts are also occasionally dropped by defeated monsters and partially refill the character's hit points. Moon Flask (looks like a flask) - heals 30 hit points Moon Tear (looks like a tear drop) - heals 100 hit points Moon Flame (looks like a flame) - completely cures character Moonlight (looks like a blue diamond) - automatically revives a character who dies and completely heals the party ----------------------------------------------------------------------- General tips: There are no weapons/armor/items to buy or equip. Items are sometimes left behind when you defeat enemies. Gulliver's disks will be given to you by various characters throughout the game and he starts with his Maken Glove. Misty will get her powers from the Blue Stones and late in the game will be given a Ray Ring. Edison starts with his bombs and that's all he gets. There is only one quest, so the game is rather linear. Talking to people will give you important information on the how and why things are occurring. In addition, certain events won't happen unless you talk to the right people first. I'll tell you the people you have to talk to, whether you talk to other people is up to you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Walkthrough: After the introductory scene which sets the stage, I recommend going up a couple of levels for everyone. See what the town has to offer and talk to the people. Head to the far east side of town. Besides some enemies to attack, you'll run into Phoebe (well, she actually runs into you). If you go all the way right (over by the tavern), when you go back across the bridge heading left, she'll bump into you. She doesn't really add anything until later, but she'll tag along until then. The Sea Lion, where you are healed and your game saved, is at the southern part of the town square. Be sure to save before taking on Baron Mangetsu. In the northeast corner of town, you'll find more enemies and a Max Healer behind the house. When you're ready (and Phoebe has joined you, otherwise you'll just find some enemies), Baron Mangetsu waits in the church (it's the large building in the upper left of the town square, not real hard to miss). Walk up into the main hall and Baron will talk to you. Misty manages to escape and Baron has his henchman Budo Muscle attack you. Budo starts off the attack by firing a fireball straight ahead. The fireball will go about halfway across the screen and break into 8 small pieces that fly out. After he fires a couple of fireballs, he'll bounce around the room. Hit him a few times and he'll get mad. His fireball will become a fire stream that just fires straight ahead. When he bounces around the room now, he'll move a lot faster. Edison is good to use for the first part of the battle because Budo is moving slower and your timing doesn't have to be as on for the bombs. Once Budo gets mad, use Gulliver more, but be ready to switch back to Edison if Gulliver's health starts running low. If both Edison and Gulliver are at level 3, Budo won't be too big of a problem. After you win, you get a Moon Flask and Misty joins the party (she'll basically be dead weight until you find a Blue Stone, although she can be used to take hits while Edison and Gulliver heal). The party agrees to head to Spain to find Baron. Don't forget to see Lee Jubai (the boat to his house is southeast of Gulliver's. Hop on it and it'll automatically take you over to Lee Jubai's place). See the shop keeper, too (south of Gulliver's house). He'll give you a Moonlight and a Moon Tear. Now go to the Sea Lion and Edokko. Edokko will automatically take the party to Rome (I told you the game was rather linear). Although there is a steel wall surrounding the city, Edokko will ram the Sea Lion through. Unfortunately, the characters are taken captive. The people of Rome can be found throughout the castle, but they really don't have anything to offer. Gulliver can visit the dungeon, but he can't talk to or free the rest of the party. Exit the castle and head for the coliseum to the left. Off to the sides are endless supplies of enemies; I recommend leveling up to at least level 5. Afterwards, exit and head for the caves on the east side of Rome. The lower cave has the Majin that the Spanish Trio wanted you to try and move. Try and you'll be able to move it a little, but not a significant amount. Go to the upper cave. Follow the path around and, when you get to a fork, Multis will challenge you to a battle. His first attack is to teleport to a spot in the room, stop, and throw knives in seven directions. It's rather easy to stand between the knife paths and hit him. After you hit him a few times, Multis will change. Now he'll use a chain to move about the room. Where he stops dictates the attack he'll use. They all center around springing the chain from his body in some pattern. The chain is slow to be retracted, so stay out of his way, wait for him to attack, then move in and attack. At level 5, he'll be a piece of cake. When you win, you get a Moon Tear and can further explore the cave. Head down, follow the path around and you'll meet Hammer Eagle. Talk to him and he'll give you the Eagle disk. You can't go through the boulder to the north yet, so exit the cave and save at the Sea Lion. Now head to the lower cave and the Majin again. This time, with the assistance of the Eagle disk, you'll be able to move the Majin. Gorgos will then challenge you to a battle. You automatically go to the coliseum (which is why I said to save before going to the cave). Platon explains the controls of the Majin. Use the Eagle disk first thing so that it can start recharging. Move left and right to dodge punches while landing your own. If you can, try and land several punches in a row, sometimes he'll be stuck in place for a few seconds allowing you to wail on him. The battle won't be easy, but try and avoid getting as hurt as little as possible. The reason is, after you beat Gorgos, Eroica will challenge you. Beat him the same way, just know that he moves much faster. Use the Eagle disk whenever possible. When you win, the rest of the party joins Gulliver. Save and head back to the upper cave. Go back to where Hammer Eagle and the boulder was. Use Edison's bombs to blow up the boulder and continue onward. Edison's bombs can also be used to blow up the monster portals on the next screen up and throughout the game (side note: once you destroy a portal, it'll stay destroyed forever. Some monsters aren't created by the portals and will return when you leave the screen and come back). When you exit this cave, you'll be faced with two possibilities. Take the left cave to get a Moonlight. Take the right cave to continue on. Exit this cave and you'll face three openings (the one you just exited plus two others). Ignore the middle one: it just takes you back to where you fought Multis. Take the right one instead. Inside, two screens up, you'll find a Blue Stone. As Misty says, each has it's own power. This one paralyzes all the enemies on the screen. Misty has now moved up from completely useless to mostly useless. Exit this cave and take the middle entrance for the quickest way back. You'll run into Hammer Eagle again and he'll suggest you head for the Himalayas. Head back to the Sea Lion to move on. As soon as the Sea Lion takes off for the Himalayas, Lawrence shows up. Besides revealing a major plot surprise (you'll have to play to find out what it is), he'll also give Misty another Blue Stone, one that refills everyone's magic meters. Edokko then takes the party to Spain. When you land, ignore the left path/forest entrance and take the right one instead. Follow the path and you'll meet up with Maggy Mammoth. Talk to her then go back and take the left opening. The previously locked door will unlock once you beat the spider in the room. The ensuing path is almost entirely linear, just follow it around and you won't get lost. Even if there is a fork in the path, one end will quickly dead end. Spending some time leveling up isn't a bad idea, but not entirely necessary. When you reach a tall room with walls jutting out from the sides, be prepared. In the next room up is Droid. The first thing you should do is use Edison to take out the skull pedestals in front of Droid. Each pedestal will take three bombs, so be sure to switch over to another character to refill them (or use Misty's Charge spell). Once the pedestals are destroyed, Droid will start moving around the room after you. He doesn't have any attacks per se and moves rather slowly. Watch out for the string of balls though. Just keep moving around, attacking when you have a chance. Edison will do more damage than Gulliver's attack, although the Eagle disk does the most damage. When you win, you'll get the third Blue Stone. This one allows you to double the power of the other character's attacks and can be used twice in succession. Exit to the top of the room and follow the path through the gardens. At the top of the room, you'll see a tower and Gekko. Gekko wants to challenge you, but not until you beat Judo. Gady blocks one entrance to the Tower of Kindness, so take the other door. The tower is real short and the rooms are small. Be aware that you can fall through the holes on the upper floors. In addition, in the first room, there is a secret passage on the left side that leads to a Moonlight. It's probably best just to avoid the robots on the upper floors. Edison does the most damage but still doesn't do much against them. On the top floor, you'll find the Axe disk. This will be one of the most useful disks, especially against bosses. Head back to the first floor and talk to Maggy Mammoth again. Exit the Tower and take the entrance previously blocked by Gady. You will arrive on the ground above the Tower. Stop by the Sea Lion to save and get some information. Afterwards, enter the castle. Inside, be sure to avoid the spikes and pitfalls. The conveyer belts can be a little tricky, partially due to the perspective. Once you get to the room past the conveyer belt room, it doesn't matter whether you go right or left: both paths are random (each has a set of rooms that appear in random order. The last room on each side is the same). If you get the teleport room, take the right teleport, then the left one, then the only one. Eventually, you'll come to a room with spider monster portals on the right and left sides of the screen. This room is just before the top of the Tower and Judo. I'd get everyone to at least level 5, Gulliver probably to 6. Also, take out the monster portals, then sit in the room to heal everybody before you try to take on Judo. Judo's primary attack at first is to jump around the room, cause an earthquake (which will hurt you no matter what) then launch fireballs in your general direction. Have Misty use her Power spell twice, then have Gulliver use the Axe disk. Now, have Gulliver attack. A couple of attacks later, Judo's true form will be revealed (yes, most of the bosses have two forms). Stick with Gulliver: his attack's the quickest and easiest. The next part is all about timing. Judo will call down lightening, then fire a homing fireball at you (it is possible to dodge it, but it is rather difficult). If you can hit him at the right time, he won't fire the fireball. Try to hit him just before he'd release the fireball. After you do it a couple of times, you ought to get the hang of it. Use the Axe disk as often as possible. Use Misty's charge to dramatically increase the number of times you can use the disk. His new form is able to take 5 hits of 400 damage, so be prepared. Don't forget about your healing items if necessary. You'll earn a 100 point experience bar when you win. Judo will reveal that he was under some one else's control, a woman named Hallelujah. He gives Misty the fourth Blue Stone. Hallelujah then shows up, takes the Blue Stones (Misty's back to completely useless) and advances the plot. After her spiel, the party returns to the Sea Lion, then heads to Atlantis. You'll now be travelling through a series of tunnels. Most of the tunnels are located underneath monster portals. Destroy the portal, then you can drop down the tunnels. Go up from the Sea Lion to the mountain pass. Drop down the gaping hole. Take the lower left hole (under a portal), then the upper left (on the platform, under a portal), then the lower left (under a portal), and the lower left again. Hallelujah will appear again, brag about how great she is and how weak you are, then disappear. Follow the path, but be wary. The monsters here do some serious damage. They'll hook onto your character and do two hits of 20 damage each. There's a door at the end of the path, but it won't open until you defeat all the monsters. Priority one is have Edison take out the four monster portals. After that, worry about taking out the monsters themselves. The Eagle disk is helpful because, although it doesn't do a lot of damage (only 15), it'll attack all the monsters on the screen. Once you beat all the monsters, heal up, then go through the door and face Gekko. Gekko will teleport around the room firing a boomerang-like projectile. Every time you hit him with any attack, he'll split into four parts, one in each corner of the screen, and fly towards you. Have the Axe disk equipped, it's the only way to do any real damage against Gekko (Gulliver only does 1 damage and Gekko moves too quickly for Edison to be effective). Two hits with Axe and Gekko gives up (something significant happens at the end of the battle, but I'll let you be surprised). Exit to the top of the screen. Here the party meets the Legendary King and the Moon Queen. Gulliver is given the Excalibur (which he can't actually use in battle), Misty the Ray Ring (and now becomes somewhat useful), and Edison's bombs are made more powerful. The party is whisked back to the Sea Lion after another earthquake (what, is every country located on a major fault?). Edokko takes you to the navel of the Earth which is back where you first landed on Atlantis. Hop off the Sea Lion and walk onto the different colored patch. There is another door at the end of the path that won't open unless you defeat the monsters. Unfortunately, these monsters hit hard (50 points) and are immune to Gulliver's Maken Glove. Here, Misty is the attacker of choice. Switch to Edison when Misty needs to recharge her Ray Ring. Once the monsters are gone, go through the door. On the next screen up, destroy the monster portal, then move on. There's really no need to defeat the monsters. In the next screen, walk up to the different colored patch of dirt. Gulliver will stick the Excalibur into the ground, cause another earthquake and the party reconvenes in the Sea Lion. The Himalayas are chosen as the next destination. You'll land in the Himalayas northeast of a small town/inn. Head to the inn first to find out what's new and exciting in the area. More importantly, Steel Bat is in the inn and will give you the Sonic disk. Once you chat with the locals, exit the inn and head north of the Sea Lion. There are four clumps of dirt, I guess you could call them, with skulls on top and spikes sticking out from them. These are what are causing the nearby hole to increase in size. Walk to each one and you'll enter a battle area. At the end of each is the same looking pedestal. Destroy it with Edison's bombs. The first three are readily accessible, but you'll have to cut through the caves to get to the fourth one. Like most of the caves/tunnels/etc. in this game, it's hard to get lost in the Himalayan caves. You'll find that all the characters have their uses here: Edison to destroy the monster portals, Misty as your primary fighter (her Ray Ring usually does more damage than Gulliver's Maken Glove), and Gulliver to fight when Misty needs to recharge. A little ways in, you'll meet a bridge repairman. Later, he'll be gone and you can cross the bridge he's currently blocking. Continue up and you'll exit the cave. Take the other cave entrance and you'll find Chuchun. She'll tell you that the secret treasure is in the next room on an altar (how secret can it be, if it's bleeding sitting out in the open?) guarded by a Snow Killer. You don't actually have to beat the Snow Killer; you can just run in, grab the treasure (the Blast disk) and run out. Snow Killer is real easy if you choose to fight him. The Blast disk is very effective against ice creatures, so will make the battle that much easier. Snow Killer'll hop around and occasionally fire spikes in front of himself. Stand between the spikes (like you did with Multis and his knives) and hit him when possible. You can even time it so you hit him just as he's getting up and can't attack at all. Once you have the disk, exit the cave. Go back to where the bridge repairman was and cross the now available bridge. Follow the cave through and, when you exit, you'll find the fourth pedestal/machine. At the end of this one, however, is Dark Phoebe. Misty's Ray Ring is the only weapon that will work against her (the disks don't even work). Dark Phoebe will fly around the room, emit a fireball occasionally, then whips it (whips it good), breaking into several smaller fireballs that fly out in various directions. Although there'll often be a lot of stuff to dodge on the screen, Dark Phoebe can only take a few hits. When you defeat her, she'll call her friend Snow Killer #2. This one's just as easy as the last one, he can just take more damage. Use the Blast disk to move things along. You'll get a 100 point bar for beating him. Blow up the fourth pedestal like the others. Head back to the caves, return to the inn to be thanked by everybody, then go to the Sea Lion. Something seems amiss at Atlantis, so the party returns there. When you land, walk onto the patch of dirt like we did last time. Beat the monsters again and walk through the door. Gekko is there to challenge you once again. His attack is the same as last time, although he'll do more damage this time. Hit him with the Axe disk a few times and he'll take off. Go up to the next screen to see that Gekko did in fact take the Excalibur and caused another earthquake in doing so. Head back to the Sea Lion. Now it's off to the end of the world. You land near an inn. Since you can't go any where else on the island, stop in and see what the people have to say. The French innkeeper will tell you to got to the Lower Moon and will give you the Plasma disk. This disk will become invaluable near the end of the game. Head back to the Sea Lion and it's off to the Lower Moon. You awaken in Baron Mangetsu's house. After he talks to you, exit his house and head out along the path. Be sure to avoid the lava patches as they will hurt you. You might want to avoid the fire amoebae rather than fight them as they can do a lot of damage and most attacks don't do much to them. After the short path, you'll come out at an area with the Sea Lion and the Moon Temple. Inside the Moon Temple, the Moon Queen will give Gulliver the Freeze disk to defeat the Magma Boss. Exit the temple and head for the Sea Lion. Edokko was damaged in the trip here, but Edison's able to fix him. Once Edokko's fixed, go up through the mountain path to the north. Once you take out the fire amoebae, the nearby monster portal is a good place to level up. I got Misty and Edison up to level 8, and Gulliver level 9, but you can find a level that works for you. At the top of the screen, take the upper right hand path; the upper left is a dead end with three monster portals. The upper right leads to Magma Boss. He looks and attacks similarly to the Snow Killers. However, he'll also fill the screen with magma bombs. These fall to the ground then rise again. They are fairly easy to dodge, however. Start off with the Freeze disk so it can start recharging. Edison and Misty do more damage than Gulliver. Two Freeze disk attacks coupled with hits from the other characters and he's toast (pun intended). You receive a 100 point bar for winning. Head back to the Sea Lion. Edison has a plan for the World Tree. At this point, Edison leaves the party for the rest of the game. The Plasma disk takes the place of Edison's bombs for destroying monster portals. It doesn't matter which entrance you take, they all go to the same room (if you take the middle entrance, step on the teleport to get to the main, big room). The two teleports on the left and right side of the room are connected to one another. The middle one is the one you want, but you can't use it just yet. In the upper right and left hand corners of the room are holograms of Hallelujah. Attack them with anything and they'll disappear. Once both are gone, use the middle teleport. Step back onto the teleport, then head through the opening to continue on. Follow the cave through until you exit. Gekko awaits you once again in the other entrance. This time, Gekko isn't interested in fighting and disappears. Go up to continue on. A couple of rooms later when you see a teleport pad, avoid it. It just takes you back to the first room of the World Tree. Go south to exit the cave. Take the other entrance. The first room has a couple of monster portals. The next room up has Dark Phoebe. The Fairy King intervenes this time and Phoebe is returned to her old self (with her new body, however). The Fairy King is in the next room and will heal you and save your game. Go to the next room and exit the cave. Take either entrance, they both lead to the same room. In this room, you'll see a bunch of diamonds of red and green alternating, two patches of blue something (avoid those, they can hurt you if you walk on them), two of those floating lightening orb enemies we've seen before, and another hologram of Hallelujah. This time, however, it won't disappear just by attacking it. In fact, no attack will touch it. Instead, touch all the diamonds. One of them (it's randomly chosen) will cause the hologram to disappear when you touch it. Beat the orb enemies to open the door (you can't hurt the blue patches). In the next room is a monster portal. I would probably do a little leveling up here. Like I said before, I was at level 10 and 11 when I beat the game, and felt that was about right. As always, you can choose to go above or below that level, you won't hurt my feelings. When you're done leveling up to your satisfaction, I recommend you go back to the Fairy King and save your game. Otherwise, continue through the tunnel and exit the cave. In the next entrance are a couple of demons with fireballs circling them: normal enemies that are easy to avoid if you wish. In the next room up is Hallelujah. Not a hologram, but the real McCoy. Make sure you stop and heal before you try to tackle her. One of the keys to beating Hallelujah is to keep moving. Hands pop out from the ground and grab on to you. Not only do they do 50 damage, they'll also hold you in place for a couple of seconds leaving you vulnerable to other attacks. She will also fire a diamond around her body and out to the sides. These attacks she'll only use until you hit her a few times. A third attack is to call down lightening from the sky, and send out two pillars of fire in your direction. After you hit her a few times (the Axe disk is good to use plus normal attacks from both Misty and Gulliver), Phoebe will come help out by attacking a couple of times. Hallelujah will claim you can't truly defeat her, but keep wailing away. This is the last battle, so don't be afraid to use your healing items if necessary. Do some more damage and Gekko will come to help out as well. A few more hits and she'll reveal her second form (no surprise there). She becomes ethereal and basically immune to attacks. She'll surround herself with shield of rotating orbs and will occasionally shed a white tear which will split into four homing ghosts when it hits the ground (these can be destroyed with any attack). The tear might instead cause some lava to appear briefly where it hits the ground. Keep dodging her attacks and getting your own in when possible. Hit her with non-disk attacks when she's solid; the disks will hit her not matter what. The Axe and Plasma disks do the most damage of any attack. Both disks will also destroy the ghosts, but the Plasma disk takes much longer to recharge. This part of the battle isn't hard, just tedious since your attacks don't do much. Hit her several times and she'll taunt you some more. Hit her a few more times and the Majin will appear and tell you to use the Dragon disk. You had this disk all along and didn't know it (Gulliver didn't either). As soon as your meter charges up (remember that Gulliver's meter will recharge faster if Misty is active), use it. You can beat her without using the Dragon disk, it'll just take much longer (40+ attacks as opposed to 1). She'll take 3 shots of the Dragon disk, so I recommend using that instead of other attacks (but if you want to do 1500 points worth of damage, 13 at a time, that's up to you). Now sit back and enjoy the short ending and credits. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Credits/wrap-up: This concludes this walkthrough for Gulliver Boy.
