Glory of Hercules 3/ Herakles no Eihou 3 By Data East for SNES FAQ by Ultpaladin This guide can be used on other sites as long as credit is given to myself and those that helped me. FAQ Outlay I. Overview II. Controls III. Main Characters IV. Major Kingdoms V. Spells VI. Hints and Extras VII. Walkthrough I. Overview Glory of Hercules 3 was a game released early in the life of the Super Famicom (SNES) that in many ways is a Dragon Quest clone set in Ancient Greece. Essentially the makers of the game used key elements of Ancient Greek mythology and randomly used them in the game. The game does not match the history and background of the greatest Greek works. For example, the Trojan horse is used in the game, but it has nothing to do with it being used to conquer the city of Troy. In addition, the world map has little relation with what the actual world maps in the region would look like, although it does use many recognizable names like Athens, Sparta and Knossus. This FAQ will be very basic since I am doing it from memory and not as I am playing along. Since there is next to nothing on this game that is in English, I thought that I could at least put together a basic walkthrough that would help those playing this game. The game often does not give you clear directions on what to do next so hopefully this will be where the FAQ is most helpful. Most of the dungeons are easy to explore and figure out so it is not that necessary for me to expand on them. II. Controls The controls are very much like the Dragon Quest series as opposed to the Final Fantasy series. There are a limited amount of item spaces so as you progress in the game; you must start thinking about what you want to keep in your inventory. Fortunately, later in the game, a bank opens up that can store your gold and items. The basic menu has the standard commands found in most RPGs. You can cast spells, use items, equip armor and weapons and look at info on characters to find when they will go up another level. You can also set the battle formation of your party by using the command "row." By setting a person to the back row, you can give that party member more protection from certain physical attacks. The controller buttons are pretty much standard but there is one thing to keep in mind that comes up several times in the game. There are instances when you must quickly double-tap on the directional pad instead of just pushing in the direction you want to go. There are usually two places where this comes into play. First, when you rest at an inn, you may sometimes need to do the double tap to get out of bed (so don't worry its not a bug that you are stuck in bed). Second, you need to double tap to jump off cliffs, towers etc. At times this is essential to move forward in the game. Battles in Glory of Hercules 3 are turn based like the Dragon Quest series. Many of the commands parallel those found in that series as well. There are a few differences to keep in mind though. First, the weapon that is equipped on a character determines which enemies they can hit. The battlefield is split into 3 rows. The first 2 rows are for ground-based enemies with the front row providing some protection for the enemies in behind it. The last row is for flying enemies. Here are the following weapon types and what enemies they can hit: Swords: Can only hit the first row of ground-based enemies and the back row of flying enemies. Spears: Can hit any enemy on the battlefield including the second row of ground-based enemies. Bow: Can hit any enemy on the battlefield but tend to be weaker weapons power wise. Axe: Can only hit the first row of ground-based enemies and the back row of flying creatures. Claws: Can only hit the first row of ground-based enemies. Whip: Can only hit the first row of ground-based enemies but can often inflict negative status effects, sometimes even on bosses. There is also a system of trust in the battle system. There is a command in the game called Tactics where you can decide if you want to command your party yourself or if you trust them enough to allow them to make the decisions. In the beginning of the game, do not be surprised if sometimes party members do not follow your commands and instead do what they think is best, even if you choose all the commands manually. As the game progresses, the party's trust in the leader increases and they increasingly follow the leader's commands exactly. Experience in the game is also a little bit unusual. It appears that the quantity of experience and gold given to the party after the end of a battle is in part based on whether the party is in a region that challenges its abilities. For example, early in the game when the party travels around Athens, it may receive 10 points of experience and gold per enemy it kills in battle. However, if that same party comes back after they have visited Troy, they will find they are only getting 1 point per enemy for that same enemy. In essence, this means you have to move forward in the game to get reasonable amounts of gold and experience. In general, gold is the rarer of the two, especially later in the game when some more expensive items are sold. III. Characters There are five main characters in the game and several other characters that join for short periods of time. The main characters can gain levels while the other characters cannot. In general the short-term characters are weak and should be protected by moving them to the back row. Main characters Hero: This is the character you start out with at the beginning of the game and he has no memory of his past. He is an effective warrior and also skilled with magic. The hero tends to be one of the faster characters agility wise and has solid intelligence scores. He has the full range of healing spells and a few attack ones as well. Reion: This is the first character you meet and in many ways he is similar to the hero. He also has a wide array of healing spells and a few attack spells as well. Reion also has a few status changing spells, ones that he can afflict the enemy with and spells that can heal party members of afflictions as well. He has solid strength but tends to be one of the slower party members. Heracles: This is Hercules despite how the game spells his name. Heracles is only in your party about half of the game and jumps out and comes back in on several occasions. Surprisingly, I think he is the weakest of the main five characters. He is the only character that does not have access to any magic. Furthermore, he is no stronger than the hero or some of the other male characters. Steira: She is the only female party member in the game. When you first pick her up she cannot gain experience, but later when she fully joins you, she is able to gain levels. She is the weakest character in terms of physical strength and her speed seems to be average. Her greatest asset is her attack magic, which is the best in the game. Later in the game you will increasingly rely on it to defeat the harder random encounters. Steira should be placed in the back row because her hit points tend to be less than those of the other characters. Hero 2: You get to name the final hero who is found in the later parts of the game. This character tends to have solid HP, MP, strength and agility. The character has a variety of spells including attribute enhancing spells, attack spells and revive spells. IV. The Kingdoms of Glory of Hercules 3 The Greeks: The land of the Greeks is the first region explored in the game and is centered on the capital of Athens. There is a focus on slavery in several of the storylines while in the Greek lands. The king of Athens is a character that your party will deal with on several occasions. The Greeks have a presence in far away lands and often give an appearance of being adventurous and intellectually advanced. Most importantly, the story revolves around the Greek gods, of which you will meet many during your adventures. The home of the gods is centered on Mount Olympus. The Greeks have also set up a number of temples that are devoted to the various gods. These are very important to visit because they give you access to many spells. The Trojans: The land of Troy is the smallest of the four kingdoms and really only includes two cities. The party will deal with the King of Troy for a short time before they are about to embark for Persia. The Trojan Horse plays a role in these events. The Persians: For some reason in this game, the Persians are portrayed as being intellectually challenged and simple minded. This maybe because the game thinks they are trying to speak Greek to you, but the more you look into, the more it seems they are being shown as barbaric and uncivilized. Several events will revolve around the king of Persia's obsession with centaurs and immortality. The Trantians: I have a few guesses on who these people are supposed to be in terms of the real world. My first guess is that they are the Etruscans since they were the major power in Italy before the Romans. The other two guesses are that they could be the Romans themselves or the Carthaginians. The Trantians are the most aggressive of the kingdoms in the game and perhaps the most powerful. They have many cities that are flung across a wide area. The king of Trantia is central to many events in the game, especially towards the end. V. Spells Pow: The first healing spell your characters receive. The amount of HP healed increases as intelligence increases. Powra: The second level healing spell, heals over double the amount of Pow. Powtes: The Dragon Quest equivalent of Healall. This spell restores the HP of one character to maximum. Powtesmer: This expensive spell restores the whole party's HP to maximum. Ilmore: Revives a fallen comrade. Landon: A fire spell that hits all enemies on the screen Torell: Confuses all enemies on screen. Excave: Exit any dungeon Noaroon: Lets you return to towns you have visited before. Emtayk: Steal MP from an opponent. Taxton: Give your ally a boost in many stats at the cost of most of the caster's life. Kno-miss: Cures various status conditions like poison. Helion: A powerful lightning attack against one opponent. Damage is usually 200+ Paralaise: Paralyzes an enemy Ques: Lightning attack against one enemy Queis: Lightning attack on a row of enemies, usually 100+damage each. Queisara: Devastating Lighting attack, 200+damage to all enemies Aqua: Water attack against one enemy Aquar: Water attack against one enemy row. Aquaram: Water attack against all opponents, usually 150+ damage for all. Hydroer: Strong water attack against one enemy. Gard: Raises defense of one ally Garder: Raises defense of all allies. Int: Raises intelligence of one all Speem: Increase speed of party members Sparrier: Raises strength for one ally. Emidivyde: I believe this redistributes some of the caster's MP to others. Note: There are several other spells not mentioned here. VI. Hints and Extras 1. Save right before you are about to level up. The attribute growth after every level gain is random. For example, one time your character may only gain 5 hit points and 2 strength points but if you reset and return to an old save, the next time the character goes up in level, they may earn twice as much in attribute growth. 2. On many occasions you can find a bed to sleep in for free and you can avoid paying for an inn. A fellow in Gortyn suggests this and this can be taken advantage of in many other places. 3. Revisit temples when you get new main characters that have the ability to use magic. They will not learn the magic if you do not visit the temple again with them. 4. Make sure to have several characters that can use a long range ability to attack ground monsters in the second row. A spear or bow can accomplish this. 5. Beware of cursed items, there are many in this game. If you are not sure if it is cursed, wait until you can save and then try it. If you do accidentally equip a cursed item, then you need to find a Holy Dewdrop to break the curse. 6. If you have the room, save your rusty items as later in the game they can be polished to make different kinds of equipment. 7. Status afflicting spells are very useful in this game and seem to have relatively high success rates. More importantly, many of these spell types can be used on all enemies in a battle, meaning it is often easy to inflict such things as confusion and have the monsters do your dirty work for you. 8. When the bank opens up in New Athens, use it. You can store money and items here. Rusty equipment is always a good choice to put in the bank until you find a person that can polish those items. 9. Use the Eye of the Gods to get an idea of where you are. This can also help you locate temples and other secret areas. VII. Walkthrough Fairy Village In the beginning of the game, you are introduced to the main hero of the story with the mysterious past. Soon you learn that the hero has no memory of the past and after surviving a fall that would kill anybody else, you learn he is also immortal. The inhabitants of the village determine that you must explore the outside world to learn of your past. A group of fairies will take you a short distance from their village and provide you a sort of armed escort as you are pretty vulnerable at this stage in the game. Keep in mind that the fairy escort is made up of a large group of fairies with a large number of hit points. If a certain amount of hit points are loss, then a fairy dies. The fairies will escort you to the first human town slightly north of the Fairy Village, the town of Knossus. The fairies will leave after you reach the town's outskirts. Knossus was the name of a famous city of the Minoan civilization centered on the island of Crete for those with a knowledge of history. Knossus Once you enter the town, you will find that the guards will not let you in, whether it is day or night. There is no other way in so we might as well leave and try to find another town. Head east and south along the coast and you will eventually reach a small town filled with vineyards, this is Gortyn. Also notice the temple on the hill above the town. Lets go ahead and stop at the temple first, it provides an essential spell to your hero. Temple of Demeter This temple is devoted to the god of agriculture. Go inside the door and dip your character in the water. When you come back out, you will find your character with a new healing spell. Gortyn There are no shops or inns in the village but if you look around you can find a bed that you can sleep in if you face and search it. Talk to all the townspeople and you will find two people of interest. One is a slave trader in the northwest corner of town and the other is a family that recently lost their daughter and are mourning her. The father of the dead daughter practically begs you to take any mementos of her daughter. Go ahead and oblige him. Inside you will find a very important item, the Daughter's Memento. This item has a very strange power, it changes your character into a woman! The slave trader in town is interested in taking women slaves to Knossus so you know what to do with your recently acquired item. Soon thereafter you will find yourself imprisoned with other women in Knossus. Knossus Talk to the other slaves and you will soon find an escape route. The dungeon is very easy to travel through and you will meet an important person from town that got stuck in the dungeon who now asks for your help. Go ahead and help them as it will help you earn your freedom. When you emerge from the dungeon you will be able to explore the town and its shops. You will notice that the innkeeper has the last one and the townspeople are afraid of a monster called the Darkness that terrorizes any ships that try to sail by. Another interesting thing in town is the little show in the northeastern part of town. The person jumps out of a high tower and lives through it. He sounds immortal. Go ahead and watch the show once and then come back at night and jump off the tower yourself by double tapping the control pad down. Reion will come talk to you and decide to join a fellow immortal. Go talk to the innkeeper and he decides you can use his ship but he wants to see Reion jump off the tower and survive. After this, you can decide when to leave town. The Darkness Shortly after you leave Knossus, you run into the monster the town mentioned. You will soon find yourself swallowed like Jonah in the whale. The maze inside the monster's belly is easy to navigate. At a certain point you will be thrown back by some internal stomach process within the monster, this will open up new passage ways for you to travel. In the end, you and Reion get separated but he tells you to meet him in Athens. Soon you find yourself on a beach. Laconia There is not much else in town other than an inn and a barracks full of Sparta soldiers. If you talk to the residents of the town, you will find that the group of Spartan soldiers recently lost their captain and need to find a new one. They soon a find a challenge for you that should be very familiar, jumping from a very high place and surviving. This should be easy for an immortal. Soon, like the fairies before, you have a large group of soldiers combined to form a lot of hit points. You will keep this group for a little while so it is very important that you try to keep as many soldiers alive as possible. If you lose one, you lost those hit points forever. Try to heal the soldiers if their hit points fall under 25 points of maximum. Travel north to Sparta. Sparta Not all is well in Sparta, a very famous Greek city known for its long wars with Athens and warrior ethic. The town has recently been attacked and there is a mysterious monster at the northern gate that prevents any further progress. The source of the monsters is apparently a cave to the south. But before we go there, lets do a little shopping. Make sure to buy several antidotes for the upcoming dungeon, you may also want to purchase a Scarab which lets you exit a dungeon. There is also a master in town that can teach you to use a spear. Cave South of Sparta The cave is fairly easy to navigate, be wary of the monsters that poison you. This will be the last time you use the battalion of Sparta soldiers so as you get closer to the boss, it is less and less important to keep them all alive. The boss is not too difficult considering you have a big punching bag of Spartans for the boss to attack. Athens Head through the northern gate of Sparta, if you talk to a woman at the gate, she will give you a Rusty Sword that you can polish later. When you reach Athens, you will notice the slave theme is back. You can only access the slave part of town. If you look around you will soon find your friend Reion in an Athenian prison. The only way to talk to him is to join him in prison so it is once again back to your immortal tricks. Enter the tower in the center of town and jump off, you will soon find yourself arrested. Inside you are reunited with Reion. Soon you are both released. Talk to the various townspeople in the slave half of town. You will surprisingly run into a person who claims he is the King of Athens. Agree to help him get back into his palace. He instructs you to go southwest of Athens to find a secret passage to his palace. Secret Passage to Athenian Palace Go through the passage near the pillar. You should keep the king in the back row since he is quite weak. This dungeon also features "dark areas" that need to be illuminated by walking over them. This may lead to a little extra treasure. The dungeon is not that complex and eventually you will enter the secret entrance to the palace. The king is very pleased and gives you permission to explore the entire city of Athens and his palace. There are many good treasure chests for the taking in the palace. Athens The rich portion of Athens is now open to your shopping needs. Soon a person will run on the stage and try to warn the people about bad things to come. This person will be escorted out. Try to find him outside the theater. Talk to him and you will find that this is Heracles and he will decide to join you. A lot of land is opened up now for you to explore, there are several temples where you can learn some useful spells. First head east to an island next to Athens. Temple of Athene This is the temple to the goddess of wisdom, make sure to dip yourself in the water to learn new spells. Temple of Hera Head into the hills north of Athens and make your way down the slope on the other side. Pass the town to the north for now and continue east and when you see a peninsula to the south go ahead and follow it down to the Temple of Hera. Do the same thing you did in the other temples to gain new spells. Therma Therma is home to the famous creators of the travel wings but recently there has been trouble making them and Daedulus, one the key crafters of them is missing after trying to reach a temple north of town. Item Shop Medicine 25D Antidote 12D Tuning Fork 35D Scarab 65D Travel Wings Prices vary This is kind of a side quest that I think you have to finish eventually because the role Daedulus plays in the game. Head north to a cave which leads to a temple on an island to the north. Cave North of Therma Another simple maze with a boss at the end. Defeat it to clear a way for Daedulus to visit the temple. This will set into motion the increased production of travel wings and a great reduction in the price. Hint: Take Reion back to Gortyn with a travel wing and have him dip himself in the water at the nearby temple to learn heal magic himself. Temple of Hermes On the other side of the cave is the Temple of Hermes, repeat the same process as you did with the earlier temples. Driskos Around the time you visit this town, you will notice a new phenomenon during the day time. The screen will start to wave back and forth to signal the intense heat. Something is obviously amiss. Driskos is northeast of Therma and is the first Trojan town you have seen. The townspeople speak of an immortal in a cave to the east. Sounds like a good place to look. Before we head there, lets shop. Both will agree to join you. Head south of the mountain cave in search of a way to find Troy. If you search around in the hills south of the cave, you will find another temple. Use the Eye of the Gods to get an idea of the location. Temple of Apollon You know the drill. Mountain Pass to Troy You need the full five party team to make it through the pass. You need the artist's skills to make it all the way through. When you exit to the other side, the young woman Steira will become a full-fledged party member that can now gain levels. You should take the time to visit previous temples to catch her up on spells. You should also spend some time raising her levels. There is another temple north of Troy you can visit. Follow the coastline north for a fair distance. Temple of Venus You know what to do. Troy Troy has the same problem with the Darkness as the Greek cities did. Visit the shops for new goods. When you are prepared, go outside and look to the south to see a Trojan Horse. Get on board to get into a boss fight with the Darkness. The boss fight is very easy as the boss will waste time trying to suck you in like before but will fail due to the fact the Trojan Horse is too big. After the battle, a ship will rescue you and bring you back to port. You will find a centaur in town that wants you to help him return home, go ahead and help him. You now have the option to sail to several places including Knossus and Persia (Bengaji). Bengaji Right when you enter port, the people will seize the young centaur for the king of Persia. You obviously need to rescue him. The item shop has two excellent items for purchase. The Carpet works like the Travel Wing but you can use it multiple times. Blue Nectar can be used to restore MP. Centaur Village South of the abandoned settlement, nestled in a valley is the current Centaur village. The citizens are upset at you and believe you had something to do with the young centaur's disappearance. Talk to the elder and you will get a nasty surprise, but fortunately it is very useful in saving the young centaur. Palace of Persia The second you appear in front of the palace in your "new form" you will be arrested and thrown in prison. You will be reunited with your young centaur friend. To escape your cell, look for a section of wall, which is colored a little bit differently. Kick it in and you will have to make it through several rooms without being seen by the guards. After you escape, return to the Centaur village where you will be restored to your original form. Persia Visit the city of Persia to find some new equipment. His life goal is to achieve immortality and he asks the party to prove they are immortal. Jump off the ledge to the right to prove it to him. Come back and talk to him and he will demand to know the secret. There is nothing you can tell him so he throws you in prison again! After some time in prison, monsters will attack and the king will demand your assistance. Off to another cave. Cave South of Persia Another self-explanatory cave, finish and defeat the boss and the king of Persia restores your freedom. After fixing Persia's problems, the issues with the sun come to the forefront. Your goal is now to restore the sun to its normal state. From now on, you will increasingly deal with the gods of Greek lore. It is time to head back to Greece and head to the temple next to Mount Olympus. Go west from Athens and when you reach the hills, turn south until you see a temple and a new city. New Athens New Athens will be a central hub in your journeys for now on. It features an excellent supply of equipment and more importantly a new type of institution, the bank where you can store extra items and money. To get there, you will need to travel far to the north of New Athens and then swing down south to a valley and make it through another mountain pass. Mountain Pass North of New Athens This place is not too difficult. You will need to jump off cliffs at certain points to make it through the pass. Jumping off the right place can also help you reach certain treasure chests. Logicis The remote village of Logicis is home to the wisest men in Greece. They will give you advice on how to reach the heights of the sky to fix the problem with the sun. You will be directed to go north to the village of Drad. Drad In Drad, you will run into an old friend, Daedulus. He is trying to design something you should be very interested in, a kite that can fly you high into the skies. He is missing a critical item though, a certain kind of feather from an animal that used to live in a cave nearby. You know what you need to do, but before you go, there is a nearby temple you should visit. Temple of Hephaistos The temple is on a small peninsula north of Drad. To get there follow the coastline east and then north. When inside, make sure to dip all your characters in the waters to gain new spells. Cave North of Drad Your goal in this cave is to find a feather from a rare animal that you can use to make a special kite. You will find many animal carcasses but only one will have feathers you can use. A boss guards the one you need to find. Return to Drad afterwards. Drad Speak to Daedulus and he will give you the kite. Now you just need to find a high tower to jump off of to gain access to the clouds. Head to Troy. Troy Go to the southern tower and jump off with your kite. You will soon be far above the land in the clouds. The Sky Above You will meet Patheon and find out the reason behind the problems with the sun. The main culprit appears to be Uranos. For now, Patheon needs to find his two horses for the carriage that pulls the sun across the sky. If you travel over to the cloud on the furthest right, you will see many horses. You need to pick the right ones to help Patheon. For those that just want to know which ones, I remember clearly the second to the right was one and the other one is about the fourth or fifth from the left. Finish this and the sun will be back on track. Head back to the left and you will see Heracles helping Patheon, you will run into him again soon. Find the cloud that drops you off and you will land back on the Earth in a new place. Olympus Village This village is right below Mount Olympus, which is your next goal. You will receive a gate key shortly to pass through the gate at the temple south of Mount Olympus. Shrine South of Mount Olympus Use the key on the gate and proceed north to the cave at the bottom of Mount Olympus. Mount Olympus Your hero will need to face a trial alone in order to reach heaven and meet with the gods. Your other characters will also face trials but you will not have to play them out, you will just meet them in heaven. For the hero, the first trial involves getting pass mirror images of yourself that follow your character around. In the beginning parts, it is usually enough to just move left and right and find an opening to move on. At the very end in front of the teleport, you will need to do a little backtracking to the south to find a way through. In another trial room, it will look like you are facing an invisible obstacle to reach a boss, but if you instead go back south to where you started, you will find a backdoor entrance to fight the boss. Once that is completed, you will be able to reach the home of the gods. Heaven You will meet your other party members in heaven. Speak to all of the gods and learn of their plans for the planet. One of the gods will heal your wounds which is important. Most of the gods are not very sympathetic to the humans but you will find a few that are. One is locked up in a tower (Prometheus) which you need to speak to. To get a key to enter and explore the tower, you need to speak to one of the gods in the northwest corner. Prometheus' Tower There are several trial and error puzzles but nothing too difficult in this tower. You will find 2 chests that are unreachable because of some magnetic power, you need to come in from the north to reach them. When you reach a room with a purple colored column, you will need to touch them to open up new pathways to proceed. One small room will have three such pillars and you will need to touch the left one to create a bridge in order to move on. The other two pillars will lead to battles. When you reach the room with Prometheus, you will need to solve a floor tile puzzle. If you make a mistake, a battle will start and you will have to start over. The solution is a "Z" pattern and then hit the left tile of the 2 tiles that appear next. Talk to Prometheus and then continue on until you reach Earth again. New Athens Speak the ruler of New Athens and you will find out that a war might break out soon with a powerful country to the west, Trantia. Head over quickly to Logicis where a meeting is to take place between the kings of Greece and Trantia. Logicis You will see many soldiers from Trantia in the small village. Speak to all the people and eventually a meeting between the two kings will take place. Both kings agree to work together to solve the problems facing the world. You run into your old friend Heracles here who will soon join you following the cataclysmic events that soon follow. Underworld Yet another long fall deep underground awaits you after the tragedies above. You will run into a few denizens of the underworld that you can talk to. Exit the cave and head south picking up the treasure chests on the way. You will find another cave system south. Enter the cave and you will find another human, your final party member. Remember when you return to the overworld, make sure to visit all of the old temples to give the new character a chance to learn spells. After gaining your new party member, head out the west side of the cave system and you will be in a new part of the underworld. Several "holes" will be scattered over the ground in the far west. Whenever you want to leave, just step on one. You should however, make sure to grab all the treasure chests before you leave. Renz This is the first town controlled by Trantia that you will see and you will notice right away that it matches something that you have seen before, in your dreams. The style of buildings match what you have seen multiple times in your dreams. Exit town and head around the enormous pit to the west and then up north to reach the capital of Trantia. Trantia Time to buy some nice equipment. You'll notice how intrusive the government is in the lives of the citizens of Trantia when you explore this town and others in its empire. Following the discussion, you will need to head south, the ultimate goal in this is to gain a ship for yourself and perhaps learn a little more about the dreams you have had. Head south of Trantia and you will pass an isthmus where you will see the Darkness creature (you should know by now its true identity) and what appears to be its child. You start to hear more and more about the actions of Baor. Continue south along the eastern coast to find the town of Labat. Labat This is yet another Trantian town. This town is based off of shipbuilding but something has happened to cause all the shipbuilders to refuse to build any more ships. They left the town to create their own sort of hideout. The citizens of the town give you clues to its whereabouts. Item Shop Medicine 25D Herb Bag 350D Antidote 12D Travel Wings 50D Holy Dewdrop 200D Shipbuilder's Hideout You can certainly tell this hideout was built by shipbuilders. You will need to trigger some open door which is relatively simple but further along there is a time-consuming puzzle that involves a column of 4 switches that can be pushed left and right. Only one combination will move the walls around in the floor above correctly so you can move on. There are 16 different combinations and I believe I remember the right combination, otherwise, you will have to use some trial and error. I believe the top switch and the third one down need to be pushed to the right, the other two switches should be pushed to the left. Once you complete that, it is an easy trip to the top where you will be able to talk to the shipbuilders. They will give you a piece of equipment that you can attach to a ship so you can have one of your very own to explore with. After you have this equipment, return to Labat and attach the new item and the ship is ready for use. Start by sailing south for Atlasia. Atlasia You will learn that Atlasia is right next to Mount Atlas and if you look closely you will recognize something else from your dreams. The villagers speak of some stone statues of some importance and more importantly in terms of progressing through the game, the path to Mount Atlas is blocked. Your goal now is to retrieve three blood drops to use in the revival of Atlas. But first head south of Atlasia to a small cave. Cave South of Atlasia Speak to all the stone statues, they will give you clues on what will happen in the future. After speaking to them, its time to hit the open sea. By exploring, you will most likely find some probably locations for the tear drops. Lets start by sailing for another Trantian town, Vesuvio. Vesuvio Explore the town a bit and you will find out about a castaway that has some information about one of the blood drops. The volcano is the first place to search for the blood drops, but first, lets drop by a nearby temple. Item Shop Gold Nectar 55D Blue Nectar 55D Red Nectar 55D White Nectar 55D Temple of Bacchus This temple is a little northeast of Vesuvio. Learn new spells in the standard way. Volcano The volcano is relatively straightforward but you need to be wary of the damage caused by the lava on the floor. It can quickly add up and an enemy ambush can finish you off if you are not careful about healing back some of the floor damage. At the end you will find your first blood drop. Next take your boat or use your transport spell to Diskos. A short distance to the south of the town is another dungeon with another drop of blood for the revival. Island Cave South of Diskos In general this cave is a bit easier than the volcano so you may actually want to tackle this first, at the bottom of the cave is another drop of blood. After you retrieve the item, return to the surface and board your boat. Travel a little bit east and you should see another boat traveling around. It should be right next to a small group of shoals. If you do not see this boat, you may need to try and trigger the even by talking to the King Albion in Trantia or Atlasia. When you do find the boat, it will be your old friend Daedulus having some fun crushing some rocks. If you talk to him, he will offer to trade his boat for yours. With this boat you can access a few more areas and help some animals in need. Guard Outpost Isle North of Persia North of Persia, there is an inlet with many shoals that has an island with a small outpost inhabited by Spartan soldiers. There is also a trio of dolphins that the soldiers say are trapped behind. Now that you have the boat from Daedulus, you can easily crush those rocks and let the dolphins swim free. Shortly after you free them and travel in your boat, you will notice several dolphins following you. Take them to an island surrounded by shoals near Crete (the island you first started on). The dolphin's master will be relieved to see them and will give you the Sea Door, which you can use on that underwater temples surrounded by four rocks nearby. Underwater Temple Use the Sea Door on the Underwater Temple to open a way for you in. The puzzles in this temple revolve around large blocks of stones that can be moved by hitting small directional tiles. Keep in mind that some of these tiles are still under the large blocks and have to be uncovered using other tiles. There are also many staircases under these large movable blocks. There are quite a few chests in this place so make sure to move the blocks around a lot to uncover all the different stairways down. The ultimate goal here is an item that calls Pegasis so you can fly all across the world. Once you are able to call Pegasis, travel southeast from Atlasia to find a town that you have not visited yet. Eus The villagers will clue you in to the location of the final blood drop, that of Medusa. Travel to the cave in the nearby valley. Cave East of Eus This cave is like a more complex form of the secret passage you took to the Athenian palace. There are large areas filled with darkness that you have to step on to illuminate. There are several treasure chests found in this darkness. Eventually, you will reach a shrine area where Steira will learn a bit more about her past. Finally at the end you will have all 3 blood drops. However, after you exit the cave, you will lose a party member that you have lost several times now. Atlasia Check in on King Albion and you find that the boulders blocking Mount Atlas have now been cleared. Albion now decides to join your party and together you make the trek up the mountain. Just a note, but you may want to spend some time raising levels a bit because in a short time, the difficulty of the monsters will be increasing dramatically. Mount Atlas This path is extremely straightforward, just follow the path to the top of the mountain and a boss fight. The boss has extremely high defense so you will need to find a way to compensate in your attack. After you defeat the boss, many key events happen and you eventually find yourself in a world dramatically changed. You wake up in Eus. Eus You run into an old friend here, Heracles who will now join you yet again. He suggests speaking to Uranos so use your Sky Caller to speak with him. He is obviously not too happy with the events and you really learn nothing of use from him. You can also visit heaven on Pegasis, but there is not much consequential information there either. To move further in the game, you need to take Pegasis off the edge of the earth. It takes quite a while but you will know that you are doing it write when some of your party members talk about sounds they are hearing. After a few minutes you will find yourself in a new section of the Underworld. Underworld After a short distance, you will see 5 towns in the distance, one for each of the 4 kingdoms and one that seems to function as a sort of prison. The monsters here are quite tough and have all kinds of nasty tricks. Some steal money and run away from it, others constantly revive their comrades and others summon the monsters that can revive their comrades. All in all, this is a nasty place. Five Towns of the Underworld There is no inn among the five towns, but there are a few empty beds you can use. In the Greek town in the largest building where the smithy that polishes rusty weapons, there should be a bed to use. The bank also makes another appearance in the Trantian town. It has all your old items and left over money. The Persian town has most of the merchants and they have quite a few expensive items. Go into the cave system and go all the way north and you will exit into another section of the underworld that is quite small in size. Pick up the Blue Nectar in the chest and then head to the fortress. Hades Fortress Soon after you enter the fortress, you will have to battle the twin cerebus guards. One is weak against fire, the other water, it should be easy to tell which is which. They are not particularly difficult. However, something happens shortly that makes the game quite a bit more difficult, your party companions are not allowed to accompany you upstairs. Alone you have to travel a long distance to Hades' throne room and engage him in battle. During the battle concentrate on the monster on the right since it can use revive magic, then concentrate and finish off the monster on the left. Sometimes Hades will revive one of his old monsters, in this case, just concentrate on Hades. This battle is fairly difficult. After you win, Hades has a last surprise. Tartaros You will be thrown into a strange looking place with scattered rock "islands" in a dark mucky liquid. Your goal here is to build a set of steps up to a large island that has an entrance to go into. You will need two sets of steps to make it. The one that is already next to the island will have to be moved to the right, down and left again because the currents restrict where you can push the steps. The other steps are in the south and must be pushed up first, then the other pair of steps can be pushed behind it allowing you to enter the door. Inside you meet another Greek god, Chronos. Chronos' Time Loop In a very appropriate twist, Chronos uses his mastery of time against you throwing you back in the past and looking at one of the key events of the game from a different perspective. The last sentence will make more sense when you reach this point in the game. Frankly, I could not figure out this part of the game for some time because even though the clues given to you are quite obvious, you must persevere and continue following the clue (defending over and over again through 3 time loops) before you will be able to progress further in the game. Finding the solution to this puzzle will lead to a battle with someone you thought was a former ally. This battle is somewhat difficult as the monster can use 3 powerful blows per round at times which is usually enough to finish off a party member. I found the best solution was to use Sparrier on your best physical attackers. Attack magic never hit as hard as I would like for this battle and I found myself relying on critical physical hits to supply the damage I needed to inflict. After this battle, a long series of cut scenes will begin that will explain further some elements of the story. The main hero's past will finally be explained in detail. A few hints will also be thrown out about the other hero that you are required to name. Overworld Restored It is quite interesting how they hit the "reset" button in this game to return you to the overworld you knew and had spent so much time exploring. You will end up with the same equipment and levels as when you were battling in Hades' fortress. The dialogue during these events should give you a pretty good clue to what the next destination is. Go south from Trantria to the small isthmus where we saw the Darkness much earlier in the game. Isthmus Pit
When you enter the small screen on the isthmus south of Trantia, you should see something new that looks like a pit. Go into it and take your party to the very edge of the pit and double tap on the control pad to jump off. There are several treasure chests on the way down and in order to access them, you must jump on at certain points on the floor above. The chests contain weapons and armor that you can buy at certain shops, but they include particularly expensive equipment like the Athene Shield and Bow. After several falls, you will end up at the bottom of the pit. Be careful, many of these monsters are quite difficult. Work your way west and you will eventually reach a boss you have faced before, Albion. Albion is more difficult in this encounter and goes through several transformations. Use strength and agility boosting spells on your party to gain an advantage. Try to keep hit points as close as possible to maximum because once again he can hit three times in a row, and that sometimes can be directed at the same party member. By now you should have the spell that heals the hit points of your party completely, so make sure to use it. After the battle, a new passage way opens up, quickly go to the unusual looking tile and use the three blood drops on it. This will free the way for the creature you once knew as the Darkness. Congratulations you have finished Glory of Hercules 3, make sure to try out some other games in the series. Special Thanks to DaMarsMan and Kojiro for all the work they did and helping me with questions on this game.
