I own all 28 Dragon Ball games, and even a 29th which is an HK Famicom knockoff of the Japanese Super Famicom DBZ game Super Butoden 2. I am also the self proclaimed biggest Dragon Ball Z fan in the world...well, I don't know about other countries, but there cannot be a more devoted fan in the USA than me. My intention for this document is to help the hundreds of people who have begged me for help on this game since its release. Only a game based on a series that is so loved the world over could tempt so many non-Japanese speaking people to torture themselves by trying to work their way through it. I didn't know any Japanese when I first played this game, and it is part of the reason I decided to learn the language in the first place. So now, armed with my new knowledge (albeit very rudimentary) of the Japanese language, along with my thorough knowledge of the Dragon Ball story, I am prepared to guide others along this journey. ---------------------------- STORY: ---------------------------- This game is an RPG of sorts that follows the story portrayed by the great Akira Toriyama in his Dragon Ball comics. The game is even broken down into sections where each volume of the manga ends. The story begins with Goku living alone in the wilderness and proceeds all the way through his fight with Piccolo Daimaoh. The sequel, Super Gokuden 2, starts with Goku's fight with Piccolo's offspring (Majunior) at the Tenkaichi Budokai (Strongest Under the Heavens Tournament) and ends with his defeat of Freeza. ---------------------------- GAMEPLAY: ---------------------------- You control the boy Goku. He is equipped with his grandfather's staff, the Nyoibo, and his innate fighting abilities. As the game progresses, Goku will learn new moves. He will learn these moves in the same places and situations that he learned them in the comic. For example, Goku can't do the KameHameHa attack until he has learned the move by watching Kame-Sennin (Master Roshi) do it. The most important thing to realize in this game is that everything MUST BE DONE JUST AS IT OCCURRED IN THE MANGA. If Goku used a particular move to defeat a character in the comic, you must use that move to defeat them in the game. If you say something that wasn't said, or go somewhere that wasn't visited in the manga, then you've made a mistake. The goal is to go through the game following the manga as closely as possible. Haven't read the manga? Don't worry! That's what I'm here for. ---------------------------- COMBAT OPERATION: ---------------------------- In combat sequences, a certain direction and button combination executes the move that you have assigned to it. When a direction is indicated in conjunction with the button press, you can't push the direction beforehand and then push the button. You can't push the button and then the direction. THE DIRECTION AND THE BUTTON MUST BE PRESSED AT THE SAME TIME. As the game progresses, you must hit the Start button to set up your moves so that you have the correct ones assigned. In the selection screen, the choices are as follows: Special Moves (A Button combos) Punch Moves (Y Button combos) Kick Moves (B Button combos) Guard Moves (X Button combos) The Select button menu just lets you see what moves you have at your disposal during combat. To set moves, you have to press Start at some point during the story mode. More about that in the MENU CONFIGURATION section below. Combat progresses whether you act or not, so be ready! Holding down the L and R buttons simultaneously charges your power (the number on the lower right). Goku will not move while charging, so be sure to let go so he can advance. Once Goku has reached a certain point on the screen, you can select an attack for him to execute, after which he will return to the bottom left of the screen and proceed towards the middle again. You will need to build up the power again. Battles involve repeating this process a number of times, taking great care to do the right moves and power up at the right times. ---------------------------- MENU CONFIGURATION: ---------------------------- Press the start button during the story parts of the game. This brings up a screen that shows 14 little boxes. These will slowly be filled with each of the first 14 Dragon Ball manga volumes as you progress through those parts of the story in the game. Below that are some stats. These represent your strengths. Below that is the number of Dragon Balls you have in your possession. Ones you possess will be orange; ones you don't have will be gray. Below that are the Playtime on the left, and the Total time on the right. There are also 3 choices of sub-menus to choose from. The 3 choices are: Combat settings Statistics Check Lists Here's the outline for these sections: ---------------------------- COMBAT SETTINGS: ---------------------------- These options are as follows: 1) View Moves 2) Rearrange Moves 3) Change Moves 4) Clear Moves View Moves: Lets you see the moves you have in each of the earlier mentioned categories. Select a category to bring up a list. Yellow moves are bound to keys already. White moves are not in your combo list yet. Rearrange Moves: This lets you select your moves and swap their combo positions with other moves in the category. Change Moves: This one's really important. You can't finish certain sections of the game if you don't include new moves you learn into your move list! Select a move that is not highlighted in yellow. Then choose a move to replace it with. You can only have 5 different moves in each of the 4 categories selected in any given battle, and one of the moves in each category cannot be changed (the one represented by the button itself). Early on in the game, you will have all of your punch, kick, and guard slots available for new moves. In the special moves category, however, you will have to decide which one you don't mind giving up for a new one. This isn't usually a problem. A good thing to do is see if a move has all of the same symbols in its name, but starts or ends with something different. This will often indicate that you've learned a better version of a move you already know. Replace the old one with it, so you can keep your types of moves diverse. Clear Moves: This selection clears all of your move settings, and you have to re-bind your moves from scratch. ---------------------------- STATISTICS: ---------------------------- This screen shows some stuff I don't quite understand. The meaning of the first row with the Dragon Balls on it is unknown to me. The second line is the percentage of the possible game "events" that you have cleared in the proper way. The third line is the percentage of the game's battles you have fought. Below that are three of the characters you named in the beginning, with different Dragon Ball stats that I still don't understand. Apparently it's not paramount that you understand these things, because I've finished the game without ever knowing. If you figure it out, tell me. ---------------------------- CHECK LISTS: ---------------------------- This section shows a checklist of the skills and events in the game, so you can agonize over things you might have missed. The first screen shows how many of the 45 different combat moves you have learned so far. Pressing A reveals the second screen, which shows how many of the 204 events in the game you have cleared properly. The combat moves and events are numbered on the left, and a "Completed" Kanji will be listed to the right of the number of each that you have obtained/completed. If you are fluent in Japanese, a translation of these lists would be VERY helpful to me, and would be added to this FAQ with credit given to you. Please provide it if you can. Without further ado, let's begin! ---------------------------- WALTHROUGH: ---------------------------- Put the game in your SNES or Super Famicom and turn it on. You are using the real cartridge and not the ROM, right? If you aren't, this game's going to be a pain in the neck for you, as the controls will be a bid difficult. Emulators cheapen the experience, anyway. Press A. Choose "New Game". You are now presented with a disheartening screen (to the English reader, that is). What this is asking you is to name the characters that will be narrating the story. The first character is "Player"...that's where you're supposed to put your name. It's the one flashing when the screen first comes up. The second name is "Rival"...this is where you're supposed to put the name of somebody you are a rival with in real life. Unfortunately, I can't read the last 3...if you can, let me know what they are. Suffice it to say that they are 3 more people, and what you name them has absolutely no bearing on the story whatsoever. Periodically (between manga volumes and when you die or continue), these characters will talk back and forth on the screen. I assume they are discussing the manga, and trying to find out who is the number one Dragon Ball fan. I think they are supposed to be telling the story. This ties in with what I said earlier about the goal of this game being to make all the same choices as were made in the manga. Anyway, just put in whatever you want for the 5 names. I recommend choosing a single character to represent each name, and entering it 5 times for that name. After you enter each name, you will be asked to choose between two different kanji. These represent the gender of the character you have just named. Once again, this doesn't matter. Pick one or the other and move on. Once you have named all 5 characters you will be presented with another choice between two words. The left one is "OK"; the right one is "Rename". Choose the left one so we can start the game. After some talking between the Narrators, the game begins. Goku is alone in the wilderness, fishing. In the interest of time, I am going to skip over conversation and just mention the choices you have to make from here on out. You have 3 choices: 1) Right 2) Middle 3) Left It doesn't matter what you choose. You can keep choosing the same one until you get it right. The goal is to guess where the fish is going to jump so you can catch him. When you catch him, Goku heads back towards his house and runs into Bulma. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH BULMA'S CAR: -------------------------------------------------------- Begin by powering up to 100 by holding down L and R for a few moments. Bulma will shoot you once and be shocked that you don't get hurt badly. Some instructions will come on screen telling you that timing is everything, and you should make a move as soon as Goku begins to flash. When he does flash, press Y or A to punch her car, smashing it. Bulma is trying to convince Goku to give her the No. 4 Dragon Ball. You have 2 choices: 1)??????? 2)??????? I don't know what the choices say, but it doesn't seem to matter which you choose. I know that Goku won't give her his Grandpa's Dragon Ball...that's why she convinces him to go with her. Next Bulma has to go to the bathroom. She is gone for a long time. You have 2 choices: 1) Follow her (I think) 2) Ride the Motorbike. Choosing 2 just makes you ride all over and stop. Bulma meets back up with you angrily and you move on. This didn't happen in the comic. Choose 1, which causes you to find Bulma attacked by a Pteranadon. All right, a fight! -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH PTERANADON: -------------------------------------------------------- Power up to 100. Just keep hitting him with A or Y button attacks. He'll go down without too many. And now for an actual translation of the conversation after the fight: Pteranadon: "Gwahh!!" Goku: "Peace!!" After a night in the Capsule House with Bulma, Goku meets Kame, the sea turtle who is a long way from home. Your choices here are: 1) Take Kame to the Sea 2)??????? I don't know what the second choice says, but pick either of them and Bulma just complains. You have to press the X button to select neither of the choices. This really makes Bulma mad. She presents the choices again. This time choose 1. On the way to the sea, Goku runs into a bandit. Time for another fight! -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH WOLF BANDIT: -------------------------------------------------------- Power up. I recommend hitting Up and A. This move dizzies him. Then press down and A to hit him with your stretched out Nyoibo (or as Goku said in the English version, "Power Pole EXTEND!!!"). Keep doing this and he'll go down. For rescuing Kame, Master Roshi gives Goku Kintoun (Flying Nimbus in the US). Bulma shows her panties (or lack there of) to Roshi in exchange for the No. 3 Dragon Ball. Goku and Bulma then proceed to YanYan Village, where Oolong the Terrible is terrorizing the citizens. After discovering that they have the No. 5 Dragon Ball, you are faced with a decision: 1) Fight Oolong outright 2) Disguise Goku as a girl to lure Oolong Choose option 2. Time for a fight with Oolong! -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH TORO OOLONG: -------------------------------------------------------- Oolong is, of course, really just a little pig who can change his shape so he looks scary...he actually is just bluffing. You don't actually get to fight. He just runs away and his magic wears off. Once he has rested, he comes back, this time in a different disguise. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH ROBOT OOLONG: -------------------------------------------------------- He threatens to dip you in his hot soup with his chopsticks and eat you up. Goku isn't fazed by this threat, which freaks Oolong out, and he runs away again. Oolong apologizes, frees the townspeople's daughters, and Goku and Bulma are given the No. 5 Dragon Ball. ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!!! ---------------------------- Here is the first of many save points. See the graphic floating by in the background? That's one of the neater touches to this game. It is the cover to the first Manga volume! At each save point you will be treated to the cover for the Manga you're currently in. You are presented with two choices: 1) Save the game 2) Don't save the game Choose 1. Now you must choose from the 3 save slots. Pick one and press A. Master Roshi informs you that the save worked, and it's time to move on. At your earliest convenience (definitely before a fight), now would be a good time to check your Start button menu. Someone must be talking in the game to pull this up, and it must not be in combat. For a detailed explanation of this menu, see the MENU CONFIGURATION section above. You should notice that you have learned 2 more ways to guard and one more special attack. Bind them to attack combinations as you see fit. Check here periodically for new moves...you're going to need them. After a long trip, Goku, Bulma, and Oolong reach the desert, where Goku must fight Yamcha, the Desert Bandit! -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH YAMCHA: -------------------------------------------------------- Goku automatically tries to hit him with his Nyoibo, which Yamcha dodges. Yamcha then hits Goku with his "Wolf Fang Fist" attack. You can't dodge it. It knocks your health down to 75. You can repeatedly try to attack Yamcha, and if you're good you might get 2 or 3 attacks in, but you most likely won't get more than one chance to attack (if that). Goku doesn't feel like fighting, because he's hungry. The fight ends. After a bunch of shenanigans involving Puuaru and Oolong changing shapes to try and steal the Dragon Balls, Goku and Yamcha get into another fight. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH YAMCHA 2: -------------------------------------------------------- Start powering up. Notice that you can now power up to 140, not just 100. Also notice that the power level is in yellow above about 70. This indicates that you can do some of the higher level moves you know, I think. Keep using that new special move (A Button move, however you bound it), and the dizzying attack you learned earlier. Don't worry about it too much, but realize that the higher you have your power level, the faster Goku will move toward the center of the screen, and the faster he can pull off his moves. Basically just keep beating on him until he loses. You should now have a new kick move. Bind it to a kick combination. Also you have a new Guard move. Bind it as well. After arriving at FryPan Mountain, Goku sets out to find GyuMao's daughter, ChiChi. You are presented with a choice: 1) Go up the road 2) Go down the road Choosing 2 gets you into a fight with a Pteranadon. Then another one. Then another one. Finally you meet up with ChiChi. Choosing 1, on the other hand, just causes you to meet up with ChiChi. As fun as fighting the Pteranadon's is, it's the wrong choice, because it didn't happen in the comic, and most importantly...um...er...Goku won't "Pat Pat" ChiChi on the crotch and discover she's a girl like he did in the comic, and therefore you will miss one of the events. Hey, don't blame me! I'm just writing what's happening. :) Choose 1 and get on with it. Master Roshi puts out FryPan Mountain with his KameHameHa. He tells Goku that it took him 50 years to master it. Well, now it's time for you to make Goku do it right on the very first try. :) -------------------------------------------------------- GOKU'S FIRST KAMEHAMEHA: -------------------------------------------------------- As the instructions on screen say, hold down L and R to charge up, then press the A button to fire the KameHameHa. Boom. His KameHameHa works, but it only blows the tire off a car. -------------------------------------------------------- ACTION "FIND THE DRAGON BALL" SEQUENCE: -------------------------------------------------------- You must now find the Dragon Ball in the ruins of FryPan Mountain. Note that the diagonals on your controller won't work here, which is kind of confusing at first. Pushing right makes Goku move down-right, left moves him up-left, down moves him down-left, and up moves him up-right. Pressing X brings up the Dragon Radar. If the Dragon Ball is anywhere nearby, you will see it on the radar. Just keep moving around and using the radar until the Dragon ball shows up on the radar screen, then try to maneuver so it is on the red triangle in the middle (you). Now press the A button to search the ground for it. When you've found it, Goku will hold it up. Good work! You've now got the KameHameHa move in your special attacks directory. Select it and bind it to a special attack combination. You should be able to always recognize the characters for KameHameHa. The second and fourth characters look sort of like a pretzel. That's the symbol for "ME", which of course occurs twice in the word KameHameHa. Use this to your advantage, so you know when KameHameHa is mentioned or needs to be used in the game. After Oolong disguises himself as Bulma (as a favor to her) and lets Master Roshi get the "Puff Puff" she promised him, it's time for another... ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!! ---------------------------- Save the game here. If it's late, go to bed. You can play again tomorrow. Otherwise, lets move onward. When you arrive in the desert town (Fasogas?) the people are afraid of Bulma in her bunny suit, because of the bunny gang that is terrorizing the town. You are presented with 3 choices. Here are the possible paths you can take, each taken to their end result: Path 1: 1)mustache guy runs, 1) Gas Station, back to start. Path 2: 1)mustache guy runs, 2) Capsule Shop. Bulma gets a bunch of capsule goods, 2) back to start. Path 3: 2)mustache guy runs, 2) mustache guy runs, 2) Clothing Shop. Bulma gets different clothes. Now people aren't scared of her. Here's how it happens in the comic. First they go to the Gas Station, then Bulma goes to the Capsule Shop, then back to the Gas Station. That being the case, here's the path I recommend: 1), 2), 2), 2), 2), 2). That should get you to the Capsule shop, and then to the Clothing Shop. DON"T GO BACK TO THE CAPSULE SHOP AFTER GETTING NEW CLOTHES!!! Bulma will lose the capsules, and you'll lose that event. Now, after this, I'm not sure what to do, besides not going back to the Capsule Shop. I just kept choosing the bottom two selections alternately, being careful to avoid the Capsule Shop. Eventually, the music will change to the happy little tune it plays often, as an excited Bulma sees Yamcha hiding off to the left of the screen. But her excitement is cut short when the Bunny Bandits arrive. Bulma tells them that Goku will beat them up if. You are given a choice: 1) "All right..." 2) "What are you saying?" Choose 1. Goku happily begins a fight with them: -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH THE USAGI (rabbit) GANG: -------------------------------------------------------- Power up. They seem to be just standing there, but they are preparing to attack, as well. If you try to hit them with a KameHameHa, they'll shoot you before you can pull it off. Do it just like in the comic; a series of punches and kicks are all you really need to defeat them, as you are much faster than they are. The defeated Rabbit Gang members run off and get their leader, Boss Rabbit. After Boss Rabbit turns Bulma into a carrot with his touch, Goku attacks! -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH BOSS RABBIT: -------------------------------------------------------- DON'T COME INTO PHYSICAL CONTACT WITH BOSS RABBIT! If you do, you will be turned into a carrot, and you lose. Instead, hit him with your Nyoibo (Power Pole) and your KameHameHa. Power up completely. Let Goku move forward until he is ready to attack. Wait for Boss Rabbit to flash that he is ready to attack, then hit him with your Nyoibo. This will knock him all the way back. Quickly attack him with your KameHameHa. This will hurt him A LOT, and should make him dizzy. Now hit him again with your Nyoibo one more time, and he's down for the count. You now have a new guard move, "Ghost Punch". Replace one of your old guarding moves with it. Pilaf's henchmen, Shao and Mai, steal all of the Dragon Balls but Goku's while Goku is sleeping. Goku goes to find them, but finds their robot abandoned. You are presented with a choice: 1) ??????? 2) ??????? This is another one of those places where neither choice works. Hit X to refuse to answer, and Yamcha jumps out. Time for another... ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!! ---------------------------- Save the game and them proceed on to Emperor Pilaf's palace, where he is angry to discover that his henchmen missed one of the Dragon Balls. Ugh...a maze. These parts of the game are really tough without knowing the language. Let's give it a shot. 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2. This combination will land you smack into a trap, which is what is supposed to happen. Pilaf fails to torture Bulma into giving up the Dragon Ball's location by blowing a kiss at her, so he gasses them all to sleep and sends Shao and Mai in to steal it from Goku. When they wake up, they discover that Pilaf has all 7 Dragon Balls, and is preparing to summon Shenlong to make his wish!! Goku tries a KameHameHa, which just blows a little hole in the wall. You are now given a choice: 1) Try another KameHameHa. 2) Try yelling, "Yoohoo" out the hole. Neither one of these is the right choice. Hit the X button to refuse both choices. You now have 3 choices: 1) Try another KameHameHa. 2) Try yelling, "Yoohoo" out the hole. 3) Send Oolong and Puuaru out the hole. Choose 3. Oolong flies out the hole (as a bat), interrupts Pilaf's wish, and wishes for a pair of panties worn by a beautiful woman. His wish is granted...the panties fall from the sky, and the Dragon Balls fly away to the corners of the earth. The gang is now locked up in a steel room with an unbreakable glass ceiling. There they will sit until the next day, when the sun will fry them. Goku and Yamcha beat frantically at the walls to no avail. You now have a choice: 1) Talk to Yamcha. 2) Talk to Puaru. 3) Talk to Oolong. None of them really have anything to say. Press the X Button. Then choose 3 to speak to Oolong again. Everyone will start discussing the full moon that is out. Goku mentions that a monster comes out at the full moon, and his grandpa warned him never to look at it. Goku says his Grandfather was killed one night by the giant monster while Goku was sleeping. Everybody realizes that it was in fact Goku who had accidentally killed his Grandfather when he turned into a monster. Brilliantly, Bulma says, "Goku, whatever you do, don't look up at the moon, it's right up there", and points at it. Goku looks right at it and begins his transformation. After smashing the castle and allowing everybody to escape, Puuaru turns herself into a giant pair of scissors and cuts of Goku's tail, turning him back into a boy. After a lot of talking, Bulma and Yamcha get together, everyone says their good-byes, and Goku goes off on Kintoun to train with Master Roshi. ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!! ---------------------------- We are now on to the next manga volume...see the new background image on the save screen? It's the cover of the 3rd Manga volume. For some reason, they skipped the one for volume two. Oh well. You can still see a little version of it on the start menu. Master Roshi is sending Goku out to find a beautiful woman to come and live at Master Roshi's house before he will train Goku. You now have a choice: 1) Go one way. 2) Go another way. 3) Yet another way to go. (That's not what it really says...but I'm not sure, so it's good enough.) Choices 1 and 2 cause you to bring a fat ugly girl back to Master Roshi. Do this once, since that happens in the comic. Then choose 3. Goku travels north and has another choice to make: 1) Go one way. 2) Go another way. 3) Yet another way to go. 1 and 2 once again bring a fat ugly girl. Choose 3 and Goku will go East. Another decision: 1) Go one way. 2) Go another way. 3) Yet another way to go. 1 and 2 once again bring a fat ugly girl. Choose 3 and Goku will go West. He's getting tired. Another decision: 1) Go one way. 2) Go another way. 3) Yet another way to go. Choose 3...beginning to see a pattern? This time Goku goes to the East again. Choices are: 1) Do one thing. 2) Do another thing. 3) Do the last possible thing. Choose 3 again or you'll just be bringing back more fat girls. Goku moves north to the woods now. Choose from: 1) Something. 2) Something about winking. 3) Go someplace else. 3 is the only one that won't bring a fat girl here, either. Goku's getting as tired of this as we are. Your choices are: 1) Something about skipping. 2) Something else that is meaningless. 3) Go someplace else. Sadly, this order isn't the same for everyone. It seems kind of random, so I'm just listing what happened to me. When I chose the first one here, Goku actually brought back a girl with sunglasses and curly blond hair. If that doesn't work for you, you've got to just keep trying. Master Roshi then takes Goku inside and shows him two pictures. One is of a pretty girl, and one is of a girl that looks a lot like Yajirobe (not attractive or feminine looking). He asks Goku which one he thinks is the good-looking one. You say: 1) The one on the right. 2) The one on the left. 3) I dunno. In the comic, Goku doesn't actually choose either one, that I can tell. Master Roshi just tells him that the one on the left is the cute one. It doesn't seem to matter which you choose, but I suggest picking the third one since it's the closest to the comic. Now, armed with the right idea about what is pretty, Goku goes out and finds the perfect girl...except that she is a mermaid! Roshi gets fresh with her and she slaps him in the face with her tail and leaves. Kuririn arrives on the island, and after bribing Roshi with a porno magazine, he is sent out on the quest for a cute girl with Goku. Here we go again... 1) Take back a fat girl. 2) Take back another fat girl. 3) Move someplace else. Choose 3. This keeps on happening until you end up in the top right corner of the map, so just keep choosing 3 until you run into a blond thief girl being chased by the police. This is Launch (or Lunch, however you want to translate it). She sneezes and turns into a good girl. Goku and Kuririn hear her scream for help and fly in to beat up the cops. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH THE POLICE: -------------------------------------------------------- These guys are lightweights. Power up, hit them with a dizzying move, then KameHameHa them. They'll be down for the count. And now for my least favorite part of the game: Finding the stupid rock that Master Roshi threw into the woods. It's essentially another maze. Here goes: Keep choosing 1 until you run into Kuririn. This solution was given to me by Peter Carucci. After Kuririn leaves, select choices 3, 2, then 3. You will then get into a fight with a Pteranadon. After beating him, select choice 2, then 1. You'll then run into Kuririn again. After that, follow this sequence: 2, 3, 1, 1, 2, 1. You'll meet with Kuririn again. Then select choice 1, then 1 again for another Pteranadon fight. Select 1, then 1 again for a final Pteranadon skirmish. Choose 2 and you'll find the stone. Kuririn tricks you and takes it from you. Time to show him who's boss. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH KURIRIN: -------------------------------------------------------- A stun and two KameHameHa's should finish him, or you can just keep using the stun attack, charging between uses. After the fight, Kuririn tricks Goku by giving him the wrong rock. Goku doesn't get supper that evening, while Kuririn, Lunch, and Master Roshi live it up. Don't feel bad for Goku, though! You know as well as I do that Kuririn never becomes the champion of the Universe, and Goku does. :) ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!!! ---------------------------- Whew! That was a pretty hard section to have been so long and boring, huh? Well, don't worry. Things pick up from here. Hey, what do you know! You have now learned the "Dash Kick" Bind it to one of Goku's kick combos as soon as conversation begins, before you forget about it. After Goku wakes up next to Lunch in her violent form and kicks her face in for shooting at him (one of my favorite parts in the Manga), Kame-sennin tells the boys that it's time to go running. In order to make them run, you must repeatedly hit the A button until they have moved all the way across the screen. Then the guys pick up a load of milk and deliver it by skipping all the way through the desert, then through the forest (you must press the A button all this time). Skip through the mountains. Then skip through the valley, across the river, and through another desert with a dinosaur chasing you. Finally, you end up at a field. Time for a plowing competition. You can't use any tools for the job, either. Master Roshi's training makes Mr. Miyagi look like a pansy. The boys must dig with their hands. -------------------------------------------------------- FIELD PLOWING ACTION SEQUENCE (sort of): -------------------------------------------------------- Alternate pressing A, Y, A, Y to make Goku and Kuririn dig across the field. Keep doing it until they are finished. Now you are faced with 3 choices: 1) Right 2) Straight 3) Left This is just like trying to catch the fish at the beginning of the game. Keep guessing until you catch the pile of dirt... Now your goal is to move a giant boulder. You can't do it. Press A for a while and see. See? Now, move on. Master Roshi tells them that their next phase of training is to do everything that they've already done AGAIN, only this time while wearing 20 kilo turtle shells on their backs! Run across the beach (A, Y, A, Y, etc.). Run past a capsule house, through the desert, through the woods, up the mountain, through the valley, and across the river. Now, plow the field...again. A, Y, A, Y, the same as last time. The boys are surprised through all this to realize that they aren't even as tired as they had been the first time...the training's paying off in a big way! Time to catch the pile of dirt again. You've got to do it 3 times, I think...maybe four. I forgot to count. :) Just keep catching them until you get to move on. NOTE: Choice 1 is right, and 3 is left. This seems backwards, because Americans read books from left to right, not right to left like in Japan. Just know that when Goku smiles a big toothy grin, it means you guessed WRONG. He's smiling out of embarrassment. Back at the Kame House, you are presented with another choice: 1) Try pushing the rock again. 2) Don't try. Choose 1. Keep pressing A and Y alternately. Goku will eventually move the rock a good 10 feet to the left, much to Master Roshi's surprise! What is their reward? Now they get to wear 40 kilo shells! Never fear, though. You don't have to make them do the stuff again. A few days are skipped, during which time the boys have been training with their heavier shells, doing construction work and such. Master Roshi tells them to take off the shells. They are surprised at how light they feel. Roshi tells them to jump as high as they can. Before they know it, they are up in the clouds! They have become super strong without even knowing it! ---------------------------- NARRATION POINT: ---------------------------- The people you named at the beginning of the game now discuss the happenings thus far. ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!!! ---------------------------- It's time! Roshi takes the boys and heads for the Tenkaichi Budokai! There they will test their skills against the strongest fighters in the world. After making it through their first two rounds, Goku faces his first real challenge, RanRan! -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH RANRAN: -------------------------------------------------------- Power up. Notice it goes to 350 now. Try out your new kick. Then hit him with a lot of stunning moves and keep on powering up. This technique works on most enemies. Beat him until he's down. You now have a new punch move, "Dodge Punch"! Bind it to a punch attack and get back to the game. We now meet back up with Yamcha, Bulma, Puuaru and Oolong. Yamcha has cut his hair, so Goku doesn't recognize him at first. Kuririn defeats Bacterion (the man who has never bathed in his life), and Yamcha is defeated by Jackie Chun, a man who looks strangely like Master Roshi without his sunglasses and with a wig on. Hmmm... Goku now fights a dragon-type guy named Giron. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH GIRON: -------------------------------------------------------- Hit him once or twice with whatever you want. He will automatically wrap you in a lougie, as it happened in the comic. Leaving out a part where Goku is thrown out of the ring and brought back by Kintoun, this game skips straight to where Goku breaks free, much to Giron's surprise. After Goku demonstrates how strong he is, Giron just gives up and walks away. Yamcha believes Jackie Chun to be Master Roshi, but he denies it. Jackie and Kuririn fight. Kuririn uses a pair of panties to distract him and kicks him out of the ring. Roshi...I mean, "Jackie" uses a KameHameHa to propel himself back into the ring, and defeats Kuririn. After the fight, Yamcha tries to pull off Jackie's hair, but it doesn't work. Enough of that...it's time for Goku to fight Namu, who is fighting for the prize money to save his people, who are dying of thirst! -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH NAMU: -------------------------------------------------------- Namu will get the first hit, regardless. Don't power up. Use an X button combo to block his attack as best as you can. He will flash, then you will flash shortly thereafter. Before he attacks, enter a block combo. The next time you will arrive first. This is the first opponent that you will actually need to guard against. The basic strategy is anytime he flashes first, you do an X button guard combo. The next hit will be yours. If he blocks, you are in trouble, as he will be sure to hit you before you have a chance to block. Sometimes it is better to wait for him to reach the center before you attack, because you will be totally open to his next move if you don't. Keep up this pattern until he is defeated, remembering to keep your power level as high as you can. What about the poor guy and the thirsty people he was trying to save? Don't worry, after admitting to Namu that he is really the invincible Master Roshi, "Jackie Chun" gives him an empty hoipoi capsule to take water home in. Apparently, Namu didn't know that water was free! Now, time for the... -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH JACKIE CHUN: -------------------------------------------------------- He's going to hit you first regardless of your efforts, so you might as well just stand there and charge up (to your new max of 360). He will get the next attack in before you can get a chance to attack as well, but this time you should have a chance to block. Next is your attack! Hit him with your "Dodge Kick" (the only special kick move you know at the moment). This move seems to get past his defenses more than the others do. Around the time he has knocked you down to a health of about 250, he will speak. Then he will hit you with a shocking move that paralyzes Goku. At this point, Goku looks up into the sky. What do you know...there's a full moon... Goku transforms into a giant ape and starts destroying the Tenkaichi Budokai stage. Jackie Chun fires a huge KameHameHa at him before Yamcha can tell him that he just needs to chop off his tail! Everyone is shocked when the smoke clears and Goku is nowhere to be found. Don't worry! Jackie didn't blow up Goku; he blew up the Moon! Goku is still in one piece, although totally naked and still ready to fight. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH JACKIE CHUN PART 2: -------------------------------------------------------- Jackie complains at the start of the fight that his last KameHameHa took every bit of his energy, so, like in the comic, you should throw one at him! First, quickly power up to 360 and let Goku move forward. Block his initial move. Then, if you're quick, you can get a KameHameHa pulled off before he can retaliate or block. This should dizzy him. Now power back up and hit him with another one. He'll be dizzy again, but by the time you make it up to the center for another move, he'll have shaken it off. Guard against his attack. Try another KameHameHa. If you're fast enough, you can get it done...I did. At this point, Jackie should stop and talk to you. Goku and Jackie kick each other in the head at the same time, and fall down in a double knock out. Goku manages to stand up, but lays back down before the count is over. Jackie wins. Goku accidentally gave him the victory! Master Roshi sheds his disguise in private and rejoins the group. Everybody goes out to get a bite to eat. ---------------------------- NARRATION POINT: ---------------------------- The named characters from the beginning discuss the Tenkaichi Budokai and the events that took place. ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!!! ---------------------------- Now that it's been a year, the Dragon Balls are visible on the dragon radar once again. Goku goes off alone on Kintoun to find his grandpa's No. 4 Dragon Ball. Once he spots the location of a Dragon Ball, he lands and starts searching as a couple of ruffians look on. -------------------------------------------------------- ACTION "FIND THE DRAGON BALL" SEQUENCE: -------------------------------------------------------- You must now find a Dragon Ball among the rocks. Everything's the same as last time. Once you've got it, the Red Ribbon Army guys try to take it from you, thinking you're just some wimpy kid. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH RED RIBBON SOLDIER: -------------------------------------------------------- He's a wimp compared to Goku. Just pound him any way you want. By the way, at this point you have 5 new special attacks, one new punch, 2 new kicks, and 1 new guard move. Pick and choose from the specials, because you can't have them all. Notice that a couple of them end with the same kanji sequences? I recommend choosing the longer ones in these cases...they're probably more advanced versions of the same moves. Be sure to leave KameHameHa in your list. You can bind all of the new punch, kick, and guard moves. Silver, the leader of this group of RR soldiers, has fired a bazooka shot to knock you out of the sky. You have a choice: 1) Move right 2) Move left The outcome is random. You may be missed by the rocket, or it may hit you. The important thing is that it doesn't matter. You are supposed to get shot down. You must now fight Silver. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH SILVER: ---------------------------- Since he's not nearly as tough as he acts, try out your new moves on him. Goku now has a diving attack, among others. Find out which ones are good for you, and use them until he's pounded. Goku then goes inside the RR soldiers' capsule house and finds a box of hoipoi capsules. He throws one and out pops a robot. He throws another and out pops a jet. The robot pilots the jet and Goku rides along, until it gets cold and they crash! ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!! ---------------------------- Goku is rescued by a cute little girl before the RR army can find him. He wakes up in her house, dizzy. Suddenly, two Red Ribbon soldiers burst in. As soon as Goku is told that they are bad guys, he is happy to pummel them. He then bravely rushes off into the cold to beat up the rest of them...without a coat and hat. You are given a choice: 1) Ignore the cold and go on to Muscle Tower 2) Go back and get a coat from the nice girl and her mother. Choose 2. They give Goku a coat and he is much warmer, so he sets out again for Muscle Tower. Goku will beat up most of the flunkies all on his own. Finally, however, you meet a VERY BIG guy. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH METALLIC: ---------------------------- Hit him with your diving attack. Charge to full power and reach the center, ready to attack. Wait for him to attack, and try to block. Now hit him with a KameHameHa. He will be dizzy. Do it again. Now charge back to max and hit him one or two more times with whatever you want. He should be down for the count. Goku now runs up to the next floor, which is a Japanese garden. Goku notices that somebody's hiding in a tree, so he hits him in the face with a rock. It's Murasaki, a ninja under the employ of the Red Ribbon Army. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH MURASAKI: ---------------------------- Get a few hits in on him and they will talk. After that, Murasaki throws a boomerang, which Goku dodges. Goku laughs at it for being a lame attack, then gets hit in the back of the head by it. Murasaki is shocked that Goku is able to get up from it. After that, hit him with a couple of good jumping kicks, and he should be defeated, after which he will run away. Murasaki tries to make Android No. 8 attack Goku, but he doesn't want to. When he threatens to blow No. 8 up with a transmitter that he is holding, Goku smashes the transmitter to save the innocent robot. After Goku shortens Jinzouningen hachigou's name down to simply Hachan, you must make a decision. 1) Take Hachan with you 2) Leave Hachan behind Choose 1, otherwise you've got to go through a maze by yourself, and that's not what happened in the comic anyway. By the way, you now have a new punch move and a new kick move. Set them up and get back to the game. Once Goku and Hachan make it to the main tower control room, they are dropped through a trap door. You have a choice: 1) Don't give up the Dragon Ball 2) Give up Choose 1. Now you must fight a pink slug-like monster named Buyon. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH BUYON: ---------------------------- For the most part, your attacks will bounce off him, especially punch and kick combos. I can't tell if you have to hurt him a certain amount, or if you just have to stay alive for a while, but the fight will eventually end when Goku remembers what Shingle (the little girl who saved him from the cold) said about things freezing. Goku blasts a hole in the wall. A cold rush of air freezes Buyon. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH FROZEN BUYON: ---------------------------- It's actually automatic. Goku kicks him and he breaks into a million tiny pieces. Goku bursts through the ceiling and raises Hachan up on his Nyoibo. Time for a fight with Howitt (sp?). ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH HOWITT: ---------------------------- Not too difficult. Just keep hitting him. Wait and block one of his attacks, then hit him with a KameHameHa, followed by another high level attack. He should be defeated before you know it. Once he is beaten, he will surrender. Then he will take a scientist hostage and shoot Goku in the head, knocking him out. Hachan, thinking Goku to be dead, is enraged, and knocks Howitt through the wall and miles into the countryside. After that, everyone goes back to Shingle's house. There Hachan gives Goku the No. 2 Dragon Ball that he has had all along. He decides to stay with the family, Goku summons Kintoun, and everyone waves goodbye. ---------------------------- NARRATION POINT: ---------------------------- The characters you named at the beginning discuss the situation once again. ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!!! ---------------------------- Goku is glad to be back in a warmer climate. He decides to go find Bulma in the big city, and have her fix his broken dragon radar. He can't seem to find her. Finally, Goku comes across a fighter in the street named "The Great Lee" who asks Goku if he wants to fight him for a chance at 100000 zenny (he thinks Goku's a regular kid, of course). You may choose: 1) Fight him 2) Keep looking for Bulma Goku would never turn down a fight, so choose 1. Time for a fight! ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH THE GREAT LEE: ---------------------------- There's no real trick to it. Just keep charged up, smack him a few times with punches and kicks, and it's over. Goku just got $100000 richer! Immediately, some thugs think they'll try to take Goku's prize money. Time to put them down. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH WURU: ---------------------------- This wild boar guy, like everybody else, underestimated Goku, or he never would
have started a fight with him. Keep Goku charged up, punching and kicking, and it should be over well before Wuru gets a single attack in. After the fight, Goku asks a pretty woman if she can help him. She tells him to ask a policeman who is nearby, so he gives her $100000 for her help and does just that. :) Goku shows the policeman a crude drawing he's made of Bulma...which doesn't help. The policeman checks his computer for all the Bulmas that live in town. The first one looks like all the fat ladies you brought back to Master Roshi earlier. The second one is her! The policeman says he can't believe he couldn't find her...she's the daughter of the founder of Capsule Corporation! He takes Goku right to her doorstep. She takes him inside to meet her father, Dr. Briefs. Meanwhile... The Red Ribbon Army is really after Goku, now. They are planning his capture. Bulma shows Goku her newest invention, the "Microband". It's a bracelet she wears that allows her to shrink herself down to about 6 inches high. She demonstrates it and gets stepped on by her mother... After quite a bit of yammering on by her mother and father, Bulma fixes the dragon radar, grabs her capsules, shrinks herself down, hops into the top of Goku's shirt, and rides away on Kintoun with him. While flying out over the water, Bulma detects a Dragon Ball. They stop so Goku can swim down and get it. Bulma pulls out her capsules and discovers that she accidentally grabbed her father's. The one she pops is full of porno magazines. Goku searches for a while underwater, and finds nothing. He comes back to find Bulma being chased and shot at by RR soldiers! -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH RED RIBBON AIRFORCE NO.1: -------------------------------------------------------- This is the first fight in which Goku is flying. Don't worry, though. Kintoun stays underneath him, and the combat works just the same. Charge up and give him 3 or 4 kicks...punches...whatever you want. I'll let you know when a fight gets hard. :) By the way, you now know a new kick, "Dodge Knee Kick". Bind it if you want. You also might know a few more guard moves, but I can't really tell. I don't often block, anyway. Not knowing what to do next, the pair go to the Kame House to discuss the Red Ribbon Army with Kame Sennin. Bulma loans him her Microband...which he for some reason is very excited about. What happens here is not what happens in the comic. Lunch is supposed to be gone with Kuririn, but instead she's in the house and KameSennin uses the Microband to peep at her. In the comic, Kamesennin waits for Bulma to go to the bathroom, then uses the Microband to sneak under the door and spy on her. He slips on the back of the toilet and gets flushed down before coming out of the manhole outside. Bulma, Kuririn, and Goku take a submarine to find the Dragon Ball underwater. They get fired at by the RR Army, and follow the Dragon Ball's signal into an undersea cave. Meanwhile, other RR guys attack Kame House...and Master Roshi quickly beats them all to a pulp. Lunch is being held at gunpoint, however, so Kame the sea turtle tickles her nose with a palm branch and BOOM. He's history. Goku, Kuririn, and Bulma come across a long series of spear traps. Goku and Kuririn jump over, and Goku pulls Bulma across with his Nyoibo. The RR Army guys aren't so lucky... The gang finds a battleship and goes aboard. There Goku gets into a fight with a weird skeleton robot. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH SKELETON ROBOT: ---------------------------- He's a little tougher than the others, simply because he dodges pretty well. Charge up to 850 (current max). Be careful not to attack him with moves that don't dizzy or do much damage. You want your hits to count. When you defeat him, he blows up. ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!! ---------------------------- Bulma and Kuririn ran away while Goku fought the Skeleton Robot. In their attempt to confuse the RR Army by leaving behind misleading directions on the floor, they accidentally mislead Goku as well, and Goku becomes lost in a maze. You are presented with a choice: 1) Go left 2)Go right In the comic, Goku goes left, and that's just what you should do. Choose 1. Eventually you will fall through a hole, on top of a giant octopus! ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH GIANT OCTOPUS: ---------------------------- Physical attacks mostly just bounce off him. In the comic, Goku fried him with a KameHameHa, so let's work on that. Charge up. Hitting him with your Nyoibo will knock him back. Then execute a KameHameHa. Goku will begin to speak. The KameHameHa is automatically pulled off correctly, and the Octopus is fried. Goku eats a piece. Mmmmm...delicious! Goku finally finds Kuririn and Bulma, who have found a giant Pirate's treasure chest, but been attacked by Blue. Time for another fight! ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH BLUE: ---------------------------- He's not so tough at first. Beat on him with physical attacks until Goku speaks. Blue then zaps Goku with a paralyzing stare...leaving you defenseless. He beats the tar out of Goku for a few moments, until a mouse runs across the screen, which scares the sissy-boy. Goku has now broken free from his spell, and you can wail on him again. Give him a couple more good punches (you'll probably have to take one more on the chin before it's over) and he'll go down. The cave is collapsing! Kuririn and Bulma run to the submarine. Goku finds the Dragon Ball. You are presented with a choice: 1) Look for the mouse that saved you 2) Run to the submarine Choose 1. Choose it 3 times and Goku should finally find the mouse. He puts the mouse in his mouth so he can run with him to safety. Rocks are falling. You have another choice: 1) Go right 2) Go to the middle 3) Go left You are trying to dodge falling rocks here. The rocks fall randomly, so just keep choosing and try to make it through. You have to choose 4 or 5 times before you finally make it to the submarine. The cave is collapsing! Goku blows a KameHameHa out of the back windshield of the submarine, which propels them out of the ocean and into the air. Goku calls Kintoun and catches Kuririn, the mouse, and Bulma before they hit the water. Bulma managed to smuggle out a giant gem in her underwear. Goku is disappointed that the Dragon Ball he found was No. 3, and not his grandfather's number 4 ball. They head back to the Kame House. Lunch, in her violent form, steals the diamond and leaves in the stolen RR airship-thing. Blue then arrives and ties everyone up with rope, using his mental powers. He steals their 3 Dragon Balls, puts a time bomb on the ground beside everyone, and leaves. Lunch returns in her nonviolent form, not knowing what's going on. She releases Goku just in time for him to throw the bomb high into the air before it blows up. Goku then jumps on Kintoun and chases after Blue. Blue crashes his jet into a mountain. Goku tries to get the Dragon Balls, but Blue is too fast. I really don't know what goes on here, because it's not like in the comic at all. This whole section in the comic is a big crossover with Dr. Slump. Suffice to say that here in the game, Bulma shows up, and Blue doesn't get the Dragon Balls. Also, I missed event 140 here...more on that in a second. ---------------------------- NARRATION POINT: ---------------------------- The narrators say something interesting here. The fourth one on the screen says, "Special Hint! 2, 4, 14, 21, 40, 60, 66, 95, 105, 117, 132, 135...if you have all of these, event 140 will be available"...at least, that's what I think he says. Well, I missed event 66, so that must be why I didn't get event 140. Maybe it has to do with the Dr. Slump crossover that didn't happen? If you find out, let me know! Event 66 has something to do with bringing the fat women back to Master Roshi. All of the other ones are events that it's possible to miss, but I told you how to get all of those, except for 66. ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!!! ---------------------------- You've now got a couple of new punch moves and a new kick move. Bind them. At the base of Karin Tower, a native child (Wuupa) has been kidnapped by a flying ace under the employ of the RR Army. Kick his tail. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH AERO: ---------------------------- Pretty easy. Just beat on him until he blows up. Goku notices that the big native (Bora) has Goku's grandfather's No. 4 Dragon Ball! Bora happily gives it to him for saving Wuupa. Meanwhile, Blue arrives back at RR headquarters and presents the Dragon Radar to his superiors. They don't care about that, and they ask their new hired professional killer, Tao PaiPai, to deal with the situation. He kills Blue by stabbing him in the temple with only HIS TONGUE. Tao PaiPai then immediately heads off after Goku. Tao PaiPai crashes by Goku and the natives, shouting "Aloha!" Bora tries to attack him, but is thrown up into the air and killed by his own spear. Goku, enraged, attacks Tao PaiPai. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH TAO PAIPAI: ---------------------------- He's pretty fast. You're going to get hit by him. In the comic, Goku hits him with a KameHameHa, which blows off all of Tao PaiPai's clothes, so I recommend beating on him with a dizzying punch move, then firing a KameHameHa at him. After hitting him enough, he will speak before hitting you with his most powerful attack, the "Do Don Pa". Tao PaiPai takes the bag of Dragon Balls and prepares to leave. Wuupa throws a rock at him, which he blows back and knocks her out with. He laughs, and goes back to RR headquarters. Wuupa buries Bora, and then begins to bury Goku, only to discover that he's not dead! His grandfather's No. 4 Dragon Ball saved his life, and Tao PaiPai didn't see it! Goku vows to get all 7 Dragon Balls and wish Bora back to life. Wuupa tells him about Karin Tower, and that if he climbs to the top he should be able to get help from Karin. -------------------------------------------------------- CLIMB KARIN TOWER ACTION SEQUENCE: -------------------------------------------------------- This sequence is similar to the plowing sequence you did before. Just alternate A, Y, A, Y until you reach the top. If you let up, Goku will start to slide down, so keep at it! It's tall enough to even make Goku tired, so your hand will probably get a little worn out by the time you make it to the top. Karin is a wise old cat. He has milk that will make Goku stronger, but first Goku must get it from him. As he runs around the screen, press the A button to try and catch him. Do this until you stop him in the middle of the screen. The music will change to let you know you pulled it off. At this point, Karin introduces Goku to the Senzu bean. He gives him one to eat. It magically restores all of Goku's strength! Now you must try to catch him some more. Stop him in the middle of the screen again. You got him! He gives you the milk. It doesn't appear to do anything, but Karin assures Goku that it does. Goku thanks him and heads back down to Wuupa. Tao PaiPai shows up just before Goku, and attacks Wuupa! Goku swoops down on Kintoun and saves him in the nick of time. Time to show him who's boss. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH TAO PAIPAI NO. 2: ---------------------------- You can now charge up to 1160. Hit him with a dizzying punch combo. While he's dizzy, hit him with a good strong jump kick. They should carry on a small conversation at this point before fighting again. Continually pummel him with powerful moves, particularly dizzying ones. Hit him with a KameHameHa if you want to. Eventually, he will pretend to give up, but will actually throw a grenade at Goku. Goku will kick it back and blow up Tao PaiPai. ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!! ---------------------------- The gang back at Kame House has sent out a robot with a video camera so they can keep tabs on Goku. As he approaches the RR headquarters, it is blown up. Goku is spotted at the RR headquarters, but he blows up 3 enemies. You now have a choice: 1) Enter the base 2) Run for the woods Choose 1. Goku lays out a few more guys, then you must choose: 1) Go right 2) Go left Choose 1. You will fight some more goons (automatically), and then get out onto the roof. Goku will blow up two planes with a KameHameHa. Goku runs and runs some more, before getting frustrated. Your options are: 1) Go right 2) Keep going straight 3) Go left It doesn't really seem to matter which you choose. I chose 1. Black learns that Red is only trying to get the Dragon Balls so that he can wish to be tall, nothing great like world domination. Hearing this, Black shoots and kills Red, therefore taking over the RR Army. Just then, Goku arrives. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH BLACK: ---------------------------- Another easy fight. Just keep hitting him. Black now throws a Hoipoi capsule, which reveals a robot. He gets inside and battles Goku again. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH BLACK'S BATTLE JACKET: -------------------------------------------------------- Keep hitting him like before. Eventually he'll just blow up. Now you've got 6 of the 7 dragon balls. Goku goes and meets up with the rest of the group. ---------------------------- NARRATION POINT!! ---------------------------- ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!! ---------------------------- Everybody goes back to the Kame House to regroup and discuss. You have 3 choices: 1) Talk to Kuririn 2) Talk to Yamcha 3) Talk to Bulma Pick all 3 in any order. Then press X to talk to Kame-sennin. He will suggest that you go talk to Uranai Baba, the witch. After that, talk to Yamcha again. He, Kuririn, and Puuar will go with Goku. Out over the ocean, you have to make a choice: 1) Head straight for Karin Tower 2) Go to town and get Goku some new clothes Goku's clothes got pretty beaten up by Tao PaiPai, so choose 2. The tailor says it will be a little bit before your clothes are ready. You have a choice: 1) Go get Wuupa while you wait 2) Wait for the clothes and forget Wuupa Choose 1. Goku will go get Wuupa and bring him back to town to introduce him to the others. After stripping naked in the middle of the street much to everybody's embarrassment, Goku puts on his new clothes and they're off to Uranai Baba's place! ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!! ---------------------------- Isn't it weird that there was another save point after such a short time? I guess they figure you're about to get your tail kicked, and they didn't want you to have to go back so far. When everybody arrives at Uranai Baba's place, a little ghost asks you to please wait until the huge tough dudes that just went in are finished. They come back out shortly, having gotten beaten up badly. The next face you see is Uranai Baba herself. She asks you for a ton of money up front. You must choose: 1) ???? 2) ???? I'm not sure what the difference between these two is, but the response Yamcha makes with the second choice is closest to the comic. The first choice causes him to say, "That's crazy!", but you still go on to the fighting arena. Choose 2, just to play it safe. First Kuririn fights Dracula Man. He gets bitten badly on the head and is defeated, but the ghost gives him a blood transfusion. Next, the unlikely pair of Puuar and Wuupa face Dracula Man. Wuupa breathes what I think is garlic breath in his face, then Puuar turns into a porcupine so he gets hurt when he bites her. He tries to fly off, but Puuar turns into a giant hand and slaps him down into the water. Match over! Yamcha must now fight the invisible man. He is getting beaten really badly, since he can't see him. Goku flies back to the Kame House on Kintoun and gets Bulma and Kame-sennin. This next part is really crazy. Kuririn pulls down Bulma's tube-top, which excites Kame-sennin so much that he gets a violent nose bleed and sprays blood on the invisible man. Yamcha can see him now, and beats the tar out of him. They now move into the inner-sanctum, where Yamcha must face a Miira-cun, the Mummy Man. He gives up after being hurt pretty badly, so Goku steps in. Finally, it's your turn to fight! ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH MIIRA-CUN: ---------------------------- Not really tough at all. You should have a kick move that does several kicks in rapid succession, which will dizzy him. I use it a lot against him, as well as other punches and kicks. He goes down pretty fast, just like in the comic. Akkman (devilman) is your fourth opponent. Another fight already! ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH AKKMAN: ---------------------------- Hit him with the rapid kick move I mentioned. He'll talk about how shocked he is that you were able to hit him. He then hits you with a special attack that is supposed to just vaporize you. Goku just thinks the pretty light surrounding him is neat, and is unfazed. From this point on he is a little more difficult, but he still doesn't pose any threat. Just keep kicking him (it's what Goku did in the comic). He'll quit getting up soon. Now for the final opponent, who is obviously just an old guy with a halo wearing a rabbit mask. Everybody goes back outside for this one. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH THE MYSTERIOUS OLD MAN: -------------------------------------------------------- He kept trying to hit me with KameHameHas. If that happens to you, don't freak out. You have plenty of time to hit him before he gets it pulled off, which stops his attack. He is pretty tough, though! Possibly he is the first enemy in the game to really pose a challenge. He blocks well, but keep trying dizzying moves, not forgetting to keep charged up in between attacks. Hit him quite a few times and he'll go down. After Goku thinks he's won, the old man will grab him by the tail and start whacking him on the ground. Everyone is shocked that he knows his weakness! Pilaf, Shao, and Mai happen to be watching the events via satellite, and they are happy to see Goku getting beaten so badly. Just then, Goku's tail POPS OFF!! He apologizes and reveals his true identity...he is Goku's grandfather, SonGohan! He explains that he was allowed to come down from heaven to challenge Goku just this once, and now he must return. After saying goodbye, he's gone in an instant. Uranai Baba now uses her crystal ball to reveal the whereabouts of the No. 1 Dragon Ball...Emperor Pilaf's got it! Goku rushes off to get it. Pilaf, Shao, and Mai get in to 3 robots of varying abilities and sizes and challenge Goku. The 3 robots join into one for the fight. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH THE PILAF MACHINE: -------------------------------------------------------- First charge up and hit them with a dizzying attack. Then hit them with a KameHameHa. This should dizzy them again (possibly). Hit them with another KameHameHa and they're history. They transform again into an ostrich-like escape vehicle and try to run. Attack them! -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH PILAF MACHINE SECOND FORM: -------------------------------------------------------- In the comic, Goku catches their rocket and throws it back at them, which blows their machine up. You can't do that in the game, so just beat them up any way you want to. They'll blow up when you're finished. Goku takes the final Dragon Ball and goes back to get Wuupa. They go back to her camp and summon Shenlong. Wuupa wishes for Bora to be revived. Goku quickly jumps up and catches his grandfather's No. 4 Dragon Ball before it turns into a regular rock. Now he doesn't have to search for it again! Bora thanks Goku, and Goku goes back to meet the others at Uranai Baba's place. Kame Sennin tells Goku that he needs to train hard for the Tenkaichi Budokai that is coming up soon, so he should run all the way back home! Everyone thinks its too harsh, except for Goku, who immediately runs straight out into the desert and heads for home, happily. ---------------------------- NARRATION POINT: ---------------------------- ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!! ---------------------------- At the bottom of your kick moves list you should have the move "Slash Down Kick". Bind that to one of your attacks. You should also have the "Counter Elbow" move at the bottom of your guard list. Bind it, too. Ahh, another year has passed, and it's once again time for the Tenkaichi Budokai. Everyone meets Chaozu and Tenshinhan for the first time as they enter. Goku arrives later than everyone else does. He has been training in the wilderness. Once again, Kame Sennin enters the tournament under the guise of Jackie Chun. Yamcha defeats his first opponent easily, as does Kuririn and Tenshinhan. Now it's Goku's turn. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH CHAPPA: ---------------------------- Power up and hit him with whatever you want. He'll speak about your strength. Goku says "Heh heh". Now continue the fight. He's not strong, so just keep on the ready and pound him. He goes down quick. Jackie Chun defeats his first opponent effortlessly. The rest of the qualifying tournaments of the day are skipped, and everybody relaxes. Now the final rounds begin. Yamcha fights Tenshinhan, and tries to hit him with a KameHameHa. Tenshinhan reflects it back, which Yamcha dodges, and then Tenshinhan smashes Yamcha to the ground and breaks his left leg badly. Puuaru turns into a magic carpet and carries him off. Next Jackie Chun fights another guy and beats him by throwing a bone out of the ring and (being a dog) he chases it. Chaozu fights Kuririn and uses the Do Don Pa, much to everyone's surprise. Kuririn eventually defeats him by confusing him with math problems and knocking him out of the ring. Next, Goku faces Panputto. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH PANPUTTO: ---------------------------- In the comic, Panputto puts on a big show about how tough he is before the fight. Goku defeats him by merely elbowing him in the chest once. He's almost as easy to defeat in this game. Charge up, hit him with a dizzying attack, then hit him with one or two more moves and he's out. Now Jackie Chun fights Tenshinhan. They are pretty evenly matched it seems. Then Tenshinhan fires a KameHameHa at Jackie, which he deflects. Jackie jumps out of the ring voluntarily, hoping that Tenshinhan will fight Goku in the final round. And now for what, in my opinion, is one of the greatest fights in the comic: Goku vs. Kuririn. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH KURIRIN: ---------------------------- Kuririn's no pushover this time. You'll have to take some hits from him. After exchanging several attacks with him, the two will talk for a moment before continuing to fight. After a bit more fighting, they'll talk again...Kuririn is getting frustrated. In a smart move, he gets behind Goku and grabs his tail. Goku fakes paralysis for a moment, then flips Kuririn across the arena. He's been working on getting over this weakness, and it apparently worked! At this point, Goku will automatically wail on Kuririn. Match over. Check your abilities at this point. Well, look at that! You now have a more powerful KameHameHa (it's at the bottom of your specials list). Replace one of your specials with it. Also add the new move at the bottom of your guard list. I think there are a few more new moves that I hadn't noticed in the bunch, too. Sorry...if somebody has a complete translation list of these to add to this FAQ, that would be great. It is now time for the fight with Tenshinhan. "Hajime!" ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH TENSHINHAN: ---------------------------- Hit him once. Goku will laugh, and they will discuss some stuff. Keep hitting him. Eventually he will just start punching you mercilessly. The match stops here momentarily. The old guy who is in charge of Chaozu and Tenshinhan is mad because he is trying to make Chaozu use his powers to help Tenshinhan win the match. He won't do it. Kame-sennin sees what's going on and KameHameHa's the old guy out of the place. The match continues on fair terms. This fight is pretty tough. Pound on him a while. He tends to block the moves that dizzy him, but not always. Keep trying. Hit him with the new KameHameHa move you have. This move is used during this fight in the comic, so you should try and pull it off now. Eventually, he will fall as if the battle is over, but he will stand back up and talk. Tenshinhan floats up into the air and fires his signature move, the Kikouhou. It blows up the entire tournament stage, but Goku had risen above it. Goku uses his new KameHameHa Ram move here automatically. The two of them fall, but Goku hits a truck and touches the ground first, causing him to lose the tournament. The Tenkaichi Budokai is over...but wait! Kuririn screams from inside the building. Goku rushes in to find his Dragon Ball stolen and Kuririn DEAD!! Angrily, Goku rushes off on Kintoun to catch the murderer. The symbol left behind is identifiable by Kame-sennin. It is the symbol of Piccolo Daimao, known as the Devil himself. Hundreds of years ago, when Kame- sennin was young, his teacher had sealed Piccolo Daimao up into a magic container, but it had cost him his life. Goku was in grave danger... ---------------------------- NARRATION POINT!! ---------------------------- ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!! ---------------------------- Goku pursues the demon to the northern woods. You have a choice to make. Choose the first one 7 times and you should run into Tambourine. He has Goku's No. 4 Dragon Ball, and talks about how easy it was to kill Kuririn. Time to fight. -------------------------------------------------------- FIGHT WITH TAMBOURINE: -------------------------------------------------------- You don't stand a chance against him. One hit and you're down. Kintoun catches you. Tambourine then blows Kintoun up! Unconscious, Goku falls to the ground. As it turns out, Pilaf, Shao, and Mai are consorting with Piccolo Daimao, who is systematically killing anyone on Earth who is of decent strength one by one. He blows up the container he was trapped in. Tambourine returns and hands over the Dragon Ball. Next they look at pictures of all of the strong warriors in the world. Namu, Ranfuan, and Kuririn. Tambourine rips up the picture of Kuririn, since he already killed him. Next is Goku, who Pilaf and his gang are worried about, but Tambourine reports that he has already defeated him as well. Piccolo Daimao then begins chanting. Finally, he spits out a giant egg, which hatches into Cymbal. He sends Cymbal off after the next strong opponent. The gang is waiting back at the Tenkaichi Budokai arena for Goku to return. Eventually they give up and go back to the Kame House to regroup and plan a strategy. Even Tenshinhan comes with them. After Kame-sennin gets beaten up by Bulma for looking up her dress, they see a report on TV about Namu having been attacked, and the seal of Piccolo Daimao left behind. Something's got to be done, so everybody loads up to try and find Goku using the Dragon Radar. Goku, as it turns out, is not dead, just knocked down into the forest. He smells food cooking. You now have to help him find it: Choose 2, 2, 3, and 3. This will get you to the fish you smelled. Choose 1 to eat it. After eating it, Goku pulls out the Dragon Radar to see if he can figure out where he needs to go. Just then, somebody throws a boulder at him! It's Yajirobe, and he's got the 1 star ball on a rope around his neck. He is mad at Goku for eating his food, so he challenges him to a fight. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH YAJIROBE: ---------------------------- Unlike later in the series, Yajirobe is a pretty formidable opponent. Hit him with a couple of powerful punches or kicks. Try to get a KameHameHa in, and dizzy him. Then hit him a few more times and he'll be defeated. Actually, they fight to a standstill in the comic, so here Yajirobe just gets up and acts shocked that you were able to hurt him at all. Suddenly, Cymbal arrives. Goku and Yajirobe do "Paper, Rock, Scissors" to see who gets to fight. Choose 2, and Goku will lose. This is what happened in the comic, so do it. You will watch as Yajirobe slices Cymbal in half, killing him! Far away, Piccolo Daimao senses Cymbal's death, and is shocked. He telepathically tells Tambourine to go and deal with the situation. After much gabbing by Yajirobe and Goku, Tambourine arrives. Time for Goku to get vengeance for the death of his best friend. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH TAMBOURINE 2: ---------------------------- Power up completely (to 2150). Now hit him with a move that dizzies him. Try out your new special attacks. You have a move that is similar to a KameHameHa, but doesn't take as long to charge. Use that. When he's dizzy, use your KameHameHa ram attack on him. Pretty soon he'll quit getting back up, and Goku spares his life. Tambourine is trying to escape! You must choose: 1) Fire a KameHameHa at him 2) Use the Nyoibo to follow him into the air Choose 2. Goku will extend the length of the Nyoibo, riding it up into the sky, then vault off of it and destroy Tambourine with a KameHameHa. Vengeance served. A ship flies over the heads of Goku and Yajirobe. Realizing that it's the Dragon Ball he is wearing that has attracted Piccolo, he gladly gives it to Goku and runs away. Now - unafraid - Goku faces Piccolo Daimao. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH PICCOLO DAIMAO: ---------------------------- He is much faster than you are, but you must hold out against him for several rounds. Try to get in a good punch or two. Eventually, Piccolo will speak to Goku, and then zap him. Battle over. Piccolo takes Goku's Dragon Ball and leaves him for dead. Meanwhile, Tenshinhan, Chaozu, and Kame-sennin find the 3 star ball with the radar. They have 5 of them, so they take them all, bury them, and wait at that spot for Piccolo to arrive. Piccolo swallows the 2 Dragon Balls he has, so that no wish can be made before he is ready. When he finally arrives, Kame-sennin sprays Tenshinhan with some knock-out gas to keep him from interfering, steps out to face him. He throws down a containment jar and begins the spell that will cause Piccolo to be trapped in it. Piccolo begins swirling, around, but narrowly escapes the capture. It has taken all of Kame-sennin's strength to perform the spell. Although it failed, Kame-sennin drops to the ground, dead. With him out of the way, Piccolo Daimao gathers together all 7 Dragon Balls, and summons Shenlong. Chaozu tries to stop him, but he is also killed. Piccolo Daimao wishes for the return of his youth. Once he has obtained it, he breathes fire on Shenlong and KILLS HIM. The Dragon Balls fall to the ground, now forever useless round stones. ---------------------------- SAVE POINT!!! ---------------------------- Yajirobe comes back to find Goku's body. He thinks he's dead, but suddenly he hears a heartbeat! He runs Goku to a stream and dunks his head in the water to wake him up. They get in a capsule car and head to Karin's Tower to get strength from Karin. There they speak to Wuupa and Bora for a moment, explaining the situation. Back in Pilaf's ship with Piccolo Daimao, Piccolo throws Pilaf, Shao, and Mai out of the ship since he has no more use for them. Goku and Yajirobe climb Karin Tower to get Senzu beans from Karin. Yajirobe eats a whole bunch and blows up like a balloon, unable to move. Goku just eats one, like Karin asked them to. Goku is completely healed now, so he begins to leave...but Karin suggests that he drink the Chou Shinsui - a super powerful tea -- otherwise he won't be strong enough to stand a chance against Piccolo, especially now that he has his youth again. You are presented with a choice (the last choice you have to make in the game, by the way): 1) Drink the Chou Shinsui 2) Don't drink the Chou Shinsui Of course, you want to drink it, so choose 1. Yajirobe dips his little finger in it and touches it to his tongue. He falls over, gasping and screaming, and refuses to drink it. Goku on the other hand, bravely grasps the cup of tea in both hands and chugs it. He screams and screams in agony for a little while, but then feels the power of his Ohzaru ape form awaken within him. He is now many times stronger than before! Meanwhile, Piccolo is taking over King Castle, killing all of the guards. Back at the Kame House, the gang is watching TV when Piccolo Daimao makes an announcement to the world that he is their supreme ruler. Tenshinhan flies off alone to face him. When he arrives, Piccolo spits out a new egg. This monster he names Drum. He and Tenshinhan fight. Goku tries to summon Kintoun to take him to Piccolo Daimao, forgetting that Kintoun was destroyed. Karin shows him the cloud that Kintoun came from, and gives Goku a new one! Thanking Karin and leaving Yajirobe with him, Goku rushes off to take care of Piccolo. In the meantime, Tenshinhan is getting his tail kicked by Drum. Just as Drum is about to put the finishing move on Tenshinhan, Goku knocks him across the field with a surprise attack. After saying hello to Tenshinhan, Goku fights Drum. ---------------------------- FIGHT WITH DRUM: ---------------------------- In the comic, Goku knees him once in the face, causing his head to explode on impact. Sadly, this doesn't happen here, but he's still easy to defeat. Charge up to your new max (4150) and hit him with a dizzying kick. Then just keep pounding him with strong attacks until he goes down. AS SOON AS THIS FIGHT IS OVER, be sure to press start. You know 3 new KameHameHas, which you MUST BIND. To play it safe, just bind the bottom 4 special attacks. Notice that each one of them is a variation on the KameHameHa. You're now ready for the final fight. If you check your "Clear" section of your start menu, you'll see that there is only one move you don't know: move No. 9. More on that later. There are also only 2 more events to go! After some talking, Goku and Piccolo Daimao begin to fight. Goku knocks Piccolo back into his assistant Piano, removing him from the picture. Time for the real fight to begin... -------------------------------------------------------- FINAL BATTLE WITH PICCOLO DAIMAO PART I: -------------------------------------------------------- Charge up. Odds are, Piccolo will get in the first couple of hits. Try blocking with a counter punch to start...it usually works. If he dizzies you, he'll get more hits in. At any rate, after about 3 rounds, when you hit him, they will talk momentarily. Hit him a few more times and they will speak again. Successfully blocking his attacks is important, since he hits pretty hard. Keep hitting him with punches and kicks, never attempting one of your KameHameHa attacks unless you are somehow able to dizzy him (but he seems to block most dizzying moves). Keep hitting him, and he'll talk again, this time angry and shocked at how well you are doing. Piccolo will now automatically do an attack that blows up the entire area, leaving it a deserted wasteland. He thinks he has killed Goku, but discovers that Tenshinhan has picked him up and carried him high into the sky safely. Goku thanks Tenshinhan, and returns to the ground. This move has rendered Tenshinhan powerless. Goku and Piccolo begin to fight again. -------------------------------------------------------- FINAL BATTLE WITH PICCOLO DAIMAO PART II: -------------------------------------------------------- Charge up fully. Hope that he doesn't open up with his "Smash Punch" attack, but he often does. This move will dizzy you, and that's not good. Try to counter punch it if you can. There is at least one punch attack that will sneak past his defenses every time, so try using it. That move will dizzy him. The trick is to hit him with it just as he is arriving at the center of the screen, so that it knocks him all the way back to the far right and makes him dizzy. With this on your side, you should be able to make it back to the center and charge up one of your special attacks before he gets another move in. Practice makes perfect. Hit him enough times and he will fall down as if defeated, before talking to you again. He then goes and grabs Tenshinhan by the head and threatens to kill him. Tenshinhan urges Goku to not worry about him and just finish the fight, but he can't do it. He tries his best to stand, but Piccolo blows rocks at Goku until he falls down. Piccolo then flies high up into the air and prepares to ram Goku with the full force of his strength. Goku feels the full power of his ancestry within him, fires a KameHameHa at the ground, propelling him up to meet Piccolo Daimao on his way down. With the image of his Giant Ape form growling behind him, Goku bursts through Piccolo's chest. As his dying act, Piccolo Daimao spits out another egg, swearing that his offspring will obtain his vengeance. Piccolo Daimao then explodes. Goku falls to the ground and is caught at the last second by Yajirobe. Yajirobe takes Goku back to Karin for a Senzu. The whole world is excited that Piccolo has been destroyed, and the gang walks off together, talking of Goku's great strength and courage. ---------------------------- CLOSING CREDITS! ---------------------------- You are now treated to a view of every character that was in the game, as well as all of the different locations. Notice that scenes of the Dr. Slump crossover with Arale are shown, even if you didn't see that section of the game (I didn't see that section). Afterwards, you are shown a screen with your score on it. I was able to obtain all but 1 move...and I don't know where I missed it, if not in the Dr. Slump cross-over section that requires for you to have gotten every event up the time of event 140. I received all but 2 of the events: Event 66 and event 140. If you obtained all of these, let me know! Now we return to Karin tower, as Karin and Yajirobe talk. They tell Goku that they will take him to meet KamiSama, and ask him to create a new set of Dragon Balls. They go to Kami's Palace and meet Mr. Popo. Goku fights him, and doesn't stand a chance. We meet Kami, who looks just like Piccolo, much to Goku's dismay! Kami relates that Piccolo was his evil half, which he had split off of himself ages ago in order to become completely pure. Kami then creates a new set of Dragon Balls, which the gang uses to revive Kuririn, Kame-sennin, and Chaozu. After the revival, they speak of the impending return of Piccolo, and the revenge he swore he would obtain. Meanwhile, a tiny egg hatches in the woods and out pops a tiny little Piccolo, already planning his revenge. We are now shown a "TO BE CONTINUED" screen, which has a mysterious grouping of Kana on it. I can only assume that these are some kind of code, since they do not form words. If you know how or where to use them please let me know and I'll add them to this FAQ. Anyway, all you can do from this point is turn of the machine. Game over. Thank you for using my FAQ! I hope to make some more improvements on it as I learn more about the parts I didn't figure out. Any and all help is appreciated!
