------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------[Olympic Gold Barcelona '92]-------------------------- ------------------------------[by Ice Queen Zero]------------------------------ ---------------------[ Sega Master System/Sega Genesis ]----------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- o---------------------o INTRODUCTION o---------------------o Olympic Gold Barcelona '92 is one of those button mashers that will leave your fingers tired as hell. You pretty much need a turbo controller to play this game even though it's considered cheating but even with the turbo mode on, there is one trick you need to know before you get it to work. This is available for both the Sega Master System and the Sega Genesis and gameplay is more or less the same. Since there is an SMS Completion Project going on, I submitted it for the SMS. o---------------------o DISCLAIMER o---------------------o Olympic Gold Barcelona '92 is a trademark of US Gold and all copyrights belong to them. Even though no basketball is in this game, this year marked the birth of the Dream Team. You play a track and field heptathlon trying to win a Gold, Silver, or a Bronze in 100m Dash, Hammer Throw, Hurdles, Archery, Diving, Pole Vault, and Swimming. Another cool feature is you can play the game in 8 different languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Swedish, Luxembourgish, and Portugese. o---------------------o GAMEPLAY o---------------------o After you choose your language, you have four options: Training Session, Mini Olympics, Full Olympics, and Olympic Records. Training Session is for you to practice each event to get yourself in the groove for the real thing. Mini Olympics lets you choose which events that you want to participate in. Full Olympics takes you through all events in a set order. The Olympic Records option is to see all the current record holders. After you have chosen your event, you can rename your character and your country: USA, Italy, UK, Spain, Germany, France, Japan and Euro Nations. You can change an X into an O to indicate that another human player is playing. Choose your difficulty skill as Olympic, National, and Club which are the same as Hard, Normal, and Easy. 100 Meter Dash -------------- Alternate 1 & 2/A & B to run as fast as you can. Those who resort to using the Turbo Controller can do so by holding down one of the buttons then mashing the other button rapidly. Just to be funny, I nicknamed my character as U. Bolt. in reference to today's current 100, 200, and relay world record holder Usain Bolt. For the SMS, three characters race at a time while six race at a time for the Genesis. Don't hit the buttons too early or that will result in a false start. A false start from the same runner results in an automatic disqualification. The top 3 (or 6) race each other to see who wins the medal and the top 3 do so. It's not really too important but you can press right to lean forward. Do that if it seems to be dead heat towards the end as this slows you down. On the Genesis, press C to lean instead. Hammer Throw ------------ Alternate 1 & 2/A & B to swing the hammer round and round. Hold left or right to move to the right and press down to throw it at the right time. In the training mode, you will see the bars to indicate your progress. If you release it right then the hammer will fly far. You get three tries at trying to get the furthest distance. The furthest three throws after three rounds gets a medal. Hurdles ------- Alternate 1 & 2/A & B to run as fast as you can. Whenever you see a hurdle, you have to press Up on the D-pad to jump over it. Mistime a jump and you will knock over a hurdle and that will slow you down. Fastest out of 3 (or 6) times will advance to the finals to win a medal. On the Genesis, press C to jump. Swimming -------- Alternate 1 & 2/A & B to swim as fast as possible. You will swim back and forth twice and the fastest out of 3 (or 6) swimmers advances to the final to try to win a medal. I find swimming an easier event than the running events. Pole Vault ---------- Alternate 1 & 2/A & B to run as fast as you can and then when you get close to the launcher, press Down on the D-pad to plant the pole then Up to vault into the air and if you got enough speed, press left to clear the pole clearly. You start off at 5.00 then you can raise the pole higher to increase the challenge. Diving ------ This is by far the toughest event of all. While I can't come up with a exactly guaranteed strategy, I suggest training for this event so you know the exact buttons to press. The score seems to be random but I can say that anything that invovles twisting and turning, press left/right to spin, button 2/B to twist, hold button 1/A to touch your toes. Diving is down first by holding 1/A then press left/right to adjust the board then press left to walk to the end of the plank and press down then up to launch into the air. You are given five dives total and the final score is given based on difficulty. Archery ------- Press a button to pick up an arrow then press left to pull back and press a button again to go to the aim screen. The archer must have been a sniper before he became an archer because he has mad shakes and it's hard to get good aim on the target. Once in position, press a button to fire and arrow. The closer to the center, the more points its worth (up to 10 points). The round ends after the 6th arrow and the total of all points are tallied. After 3 rounds, the top 3 scores earn a medal. After the end of the Olympics, the final results are given and the fireworks go off until you hit a button. o---------------------o CREDITS o---------------------o U.S. Gold for making this game.
