There are only three opponents throughout the game. Before each fight, you will have a qualifying/training section. In the training section, you will see a timer, starting at 45, a hit counter, and a qualify number. The qualify number is the number of strikes you need to make in order to qualify for the fight. If you don't make the qualifying number, you will begin the fight with no power and surely lose the match. If you overqualify, you will be given a boost in the fight to give yourself an advantage. Each boxing match will have 15 rounds of 3 minutes each. In between rounds is a 1 minute interval. Those times are of course in game time, which is three times faster than real time. So basically you have 1 minute in each round and 20 seconds for each interval. Your goal is to knock your opponent out to the point where he can't fight back. Either boxer will be knocked down when their power meter reaches zero. If knocked down, you have 10 seconds to stand back up before you lose. If you are knocked down, you can rapidly press button 1 or 2 to stand back up. If a boxer is knocked down three times in one round, that boxer will automatically lose. If neither boxer gets knocked out and both last the 15 rounds, the winner will be determined by whoever gets more points in total. The points you receive each round will be shown in the interval. If you can always get more points, you just have to make sure not to get knocked out yourself to win. If you do lose to a boxer, you can challenge them again or simply restart the game. _______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ 2. - Bouts _______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ _________________________________________ _ ____ ___ _ _ ___ / \ | _ \ / _ \| | | | / _ \ / _ \ | |_) | | | | | | | | | | | / ___ \| __/| |_| | |___| |__| |_| | /_/ \_\_| \___/|_____|_____\___/ _________________________________________ Training - Sandbag Time - 45 Qualify - 60 Over-Qualify - 85 Simply press Button 1 as quickly as possible (despite being the block button.) You don't need to press any other button or even the D-Pad. You should be able to get a few punches in above 60 very easily to qualify. However, over- qualifying will be difficult. You'll need to use a turbo function on your controller or emulator in order to consistently hit it. That being said, over- qualifying this round doesn't make much of a difference. It only makes you move slightly faster, you might not even notice it. By completing this training, you will in crease your punching power and timing. If you over-qualify, you will move and punch slightly faster. Strategies to the Fight Apollo loves to focus on the head, whether it's hitting yours or defending his own. That being said, punching his head will definitely pave the way to victory. He likes to throw three punches at a time, mostly high on you as well. Once he starts to throw punches, make sure to defend your head or even just duck. A strong combo to put on Apollo is four straight-on punches. In order to perform these, keep some distance between yourself and Apollo and just hold up while pressing the 2 button. Early on in the match, he'll have too much power and start countering after the third punch. For the first quarter of his power meter, you'll want to throw three straight-on punches and then quickly guard your head to defend his counter. After that, start trying for four. You'll notice the fourth punch will push him back and deal some extra damage. If he spends a lot of time blocking shots to his head, throw a quick low jab in by holding down while punching and then quickly change to his head. That's a sure fire way to get his guard down, literally. _________________________________________ _ _ _ _ ____ | | / \ | \ | |/ ___| | | / _ \ | \| | | _ | |___ / ___ \| |\ | |_| | |_____/_/ \_\_| \_|\____| _________________________________________ Training - Punching Ball Time - 45 Qualify - 2 Punches/Second Over-Qualify - 7 Punches/Second Just like Apollo, you want to just press Button 1 as quickly as possible. This is actually an average taken by dividing your total number of punches by each second that has passed. As a result, you do not want to slow down. If you can get off to a hot start and get 4 punches per second, you could still lose the qualifier. However, you absolutely want to over-qualify here to stand a chance against Lang and later on, Drago. The problem is it's very difficult to do so. You'll need a controller with a turbo button or to use a turbo button on an emulator. By completing this training, you will increase your punching speed, consistency, and power. If you over-qualify, your punches will become even more powerful and your opponent will fall harder from every blow. If you don't over- qualify in this training section, you should just restart the game because Drago will be next to impossible. Strategies to the Fight Lang will come out punching, literally. He's a very fast boxer who can throw a lot of quick punches to the face. Ducking is better than dodging here but even ducking is very inconsistent in this game. He likes to just keep throwing three punch combos to your face and try to back you up into the ropes so be prepared for that. The goals here are to try to stay in the center of the ring as much as possible and to land a lot of body shots. If you get your back to the ropes, he will knock you out really easily. On the other hand, there's not much sense in forcing Lang to his ropes. You're better off staying in the center where you can maximize damage without tiring yourself out. A good spot to stay is on the four stars in the center of the ring. With that positioning down, just make sure to throw as many body shots as you can. You can throw a couple punches into his face if he starts blocking some, but otherwise, just focus on the body. _________________________________________ ____ ____ _ ____ ___ | _ \| _ \ / \ / ___|/ _ \ | | | | |_) | / _ \| | _| | | | | |_| | _ < / ___ \ |_| | |_| | |____/|_| \_\/_/ \_\____|\___/ _________________________________________ Training - Punching Mitts Time - 60 Qualify - 60 Over-Qualify - 80 The punching mitts training is certainly quite a bit different from the first two. This training section isn't just a button masher that basically requires you to have a turbo button on a controller or in your emulator. This one will require your quick reflexes as you use your d-pad to aim your punches at each one of Mickie's gloves. Simply keep landing punches on his gloves to qualify or over-qualify. By completing this training, you will increase your punch accuracy. If you over-qualify, your punch combo will be shortened and can be completed in one less punch than normal. Strategies to the Fight Drago is the final boss of this game and is incredibly tough if you haven't over-qualified. He's not as fast as Lang but his punches deal much more damage. You want to start with body shots against Drago. Throw a couple punches to the head as well to mix things up in case he starts blocking down low very often. His combos come off a lot quicker than previous bosses so do your best to not let him get any punches in. If you don't even let him get his combo started, which is actually easier to do than it was against Lang, you shouldn't find the fight too tough. It's all about keeping him from even landing punches and to take the fight to him. Unfortunately, if you don't power up your punches by over-qualifying before the match with Lang, this is going to be a serious uphill battle and you won't have any room for error at all. _______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ 3. - Legal Disclaimer _______________________________________________________________________________ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This guide is copyrighted © 2017 to Frank Grochowski.
