It is a project set up at the FAQ Contributors Board at GameFAQs to give all Sega Master System games a FAQ. It was started by Masamune3 in the case of the Sega Master System but there are projects like that for other consoles too. You've heard about the good old days when families gathered together to play their favorite games. Now, Sega brings the fun back home with PARLOUR GAMES. It's three family games in one! Choose from the exciting challenges and action of billiards, darts or world bingo! Up to four people can play against each other or the computer. PARLOUR GAMES are a test of strategy and skill, with four variations to increase the challenge and fun! In billiards choose eight-ball or rotation. Play the dart games 301 or 501... and choose the weight of your darts. Or test your luck in a high-stakes game of world bingo. So get the popcorn ready and gather around your Sega System. But watch out, because your little sister has become a pool shark... and mom is an expert at darts! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 2- FAQ [A200] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= [1] [Q]. What are those numbers like [A300] next to the title of every section? [A] It is the search engine of this FAQ. Press Ctrl and F. Type in the search code for the section you want to go to. You should be there in two steps. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 3- Billiards [A300] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =============================================================================== 3.1- Basics [A301] =============================================================================== Billiard is played on a large table covered with (green) felt. The table is very hard but the felt itself can be scratched easily. The table contains six pockets. There is one in each corner and two in the middle of the long sides. The table is surrounded by bumpers who can bounce the balls back. This allows for shots that are more technical. There are sixteen balls normally but there are only eleven balls present in this game. There is the Cue Ball, which is the white ball. He is the only ball you're allowed to hit with your Cue. Then there are the Object Balls who have to go in the pockets. Normally, when you play with sixteen balls, there is a difference between the Solid Balls, which is ball 1 to 8. Balls 9 to 15 are the Striped Balls. In this game, all balls are Solids. Each ball has its number on it so you can't be mistaken. - Ball in Hand: This is where you have the opportunity to place the cue ball wherever you like at the beginning of the table. There are only three places where you can place it in this game. - Break Shot: This is the act of hitting the balls while they are in the rack. This is how all games are started. - Cue: This is the stick that you use to hit the Cue Ball. You can't play the game without the Cue. Professional players usually own their own Cue. - Foul: This is when you do something against the rules. Most fouls result in a "Ball in Hand" penalty. The player loses his turn. - Rack: This is where you set the balls in place to start a game. There are different rack alignments for different games. - Scratch: A scratch is when you have sunk the cue ball. This results in a ball in hand penalty. The player loses his turn. =============================================================================== 3.2- Basic Game [A302] =============================================================================== The 'Basic Game' is perfect for starters. You can choose between one to four players or playing vs. the computer. The game is set up easily; you just choose how many points you want to score to win. Every ball gives one point. If all balls are gone and you haven't reached the number of points, you set up a new rack of balls. If you're playing alone, you can't lose your turn. However, if you're playing against someone you'll lose your turn if you fail to get an Object Ball in the Pocket or when the Cue Ball falls in the pockets. There is no other way to lose your turn in this game. You win by scoring the amount of points that you set. =============================================================================== 3.3- Five Ball [A303] =============================================================================== 'Five Ball' is a bit harder than the other games because it isn't played much in real life. The purpose of the game is to get more 'Sets' than the other players. You can set up the number of sets but the start value is one. You get a set by scoring the Five Ball. There are some rules though. No ball higher than four can be scored in one turn. You have to score them twice. Therefore, if you knock in the Five Ball once, you'll lose your turn. If you or the other player succeeds in scoring it after that, you'll win the game. This is the same for balls six to ten although you don't win the set if you score those balls. You lose your turn if you don't manage to shoot a ball in one of the pockets, if you play a ball higher than four for the first time, and if you shoot the cue ball in the Pockets. You win if you manage to get the amount of sets you set. =============================================================================== 3.4- Nine Ball [A304] =============================================================================== 'Nine Ball' is quite easy once you know the rules. If you don't know how to play this, you'll get many fouls at the start. The purpose of the game is to get more 'Sets' than the other players. You can set up the number of sets but the start value is one. You get a set by scoring the Nine Ball. There are some rules though. You can score the Nine Ball at any moment in the game but you have to hit the lowest ball on the table with the Cue Ball. If you don't hit the lowest ball, you'll get a Foul and you'll lose the turn. Therefore, even if you manage to score the 'Nine Ball' but don't hit the lowest ball, you won't win and lose the turn. You lose your turn if you don't manage to shoot a ball in one of the pockets, if you don't hit the lowest ball or if you drop the Cue Ball in one of the Pockets. If you scratch on the Nine Ball, you'll lose the set. You'll win if you sink the 'Nine Ball' without problems. =============================================================================== 3.5- Rotation [A305] =============================================================================== Rotation is a basic Billiards game but you can only play it with two players. This is the discipline played in big games like on the World Cup. They usually play to see who gets 61 points first because he would win certainly in points if they played till all the balls were gone because the total sum of all balls is 120 points. In Rotation, every ball counts for the value that is indicated on the ball. In this game, you'd have to set the number of points to 33 to win fair and square. The stand number is ten though. Therefore, you could just knock the Ten ball in the pocket to win. =============================================================================== 3.6- Controls [A306] =============================================================================== >> CONTROL PAD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Control Pad is used for aiming. Up makes the Aiming Arrow longer, the Down button makes him shorter. You use the Left and Right part to move the cursor. The cursor moves in circles so you could theoretically only use Left or only use Right. >> 1/START >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> This button doesn't do a single thing during a game of pool. You can use it in the menus to cancel your decision. >> 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> This button plays a very important role. You use it to place the Cue Ball, to confirm in the menus and to hit the Cue Ball. You start the power meter with the 2 Button and you press it again when it is hard enough for you. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 4- Darts [A400] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =============================================================================== 4.1- Controls [A401] =============================================================================== >> CONTROL PAD >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Left and Right part of the Control Pad can be used during the time before the throwing. You can move to the right and the left with that. The Up and Down part are only useful once you set the power for the throw. Pressing Up will make the darts go up and down will it make go down. >> 1/START >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> This button doesn't do a thing in this game. You can use it in the menus to cancel your decision. >> 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> This button plays a very important role. You use it to confirm in the menus and to start the power meter with the 2 Button and you press it again when it is hard enough for you. =============================================================================== 4.2- 301 [A402] =============================================================================== 301 is the basic game played in championships together with 501. The goal of the game is to reduce your score to zero. You have to do this as fast as possible. You can throw three darts before your turn hits. Trained players will go for the Bull's eye in their first turn getting their points down to a measly 151. You need to reach zero exactly to win and to make it harder, you need to close with a Double. If you have twenty points left, you need to hit a double ten. The difference between 301 and 501 is that you only start scoring when you hit a double. =============================================================================== 4.3- 501 [A403] =============================================================================== 501 is the basic game played in championships together with 301. If you have twenty points left, you need to hit a double ten. =============================================================================== 4.4- Round the Clock [A404] =============================================================================== There are ten numbers on the scoreboard from one to ten. The point of the game is to hit every one of those numbers in the right order. You start off by trying to get a Single, Double or Triple 1. It doesn't matter which one you get. After that, you move on to the two. It doesn't matter how many turns you need unless you're playing against someone. =============================================================================== 4.5- Double Down [A405] =============================================================================== The following numbers appear on the scoreboard: 15, 16, D, 17, 18, T, 19, 20, B. They denote what you have to hit. The first round you'll get three darts to hit a 15. The second round sixteen, the fourth 17, the fifth 18, the seventh 19, and the eight round 20. In the third round you have to throw a double, the sixth a Triple and the last turns consists of trying to hit the Bull's-eye. You start with 40 points. If you manage to hit 15 with two darts and you hit 1 with the other darts, you'll get points for the 2 x 15 + your leftover points so you'd get 70 points. If you fail to hit the number once, your points from the last round will be halved. If you failed to hit all of them, you'd have 1 point after five turns. The player who gets the highest score wins. =============================================================================== 4.6- Basics [A406] =============================================================================== This is how a Darts board looks like. Due to the restricted nature of txt files, I wasn't able to display the numbers but in the white boarder are normally numbers that denote the value of the pieces above it. The small piece directly above the number counts as two times the value in the white border. The biggest one is the single and the smaller one directly above it is the triple. The one above the triple is the single again. You have to multiply them with the value in the White border. Only the bull's-eye in the middle remains. That is worth the most points. The outer Bull's-eye is worth 25 points and the inner is worth 50. ######################### ####### ####### ##### ##### #### ,#### ##### ##################### ##### #### ############################### #### ### ## ####### ## ### ### ## ##### ####### ##### ## ### ### ## ########## ##### ########## ## ### ### #### ########## ## ## ########## #### # # ##### ######## ###### ###### ######## #### # ## # ### ### # ### # ### ### # ## # # # # ##### ###, ##### # # ### ### # ####### #### ##### ### ##### #### ####### # ## # # # ## ########## # #### # #### # ########## ## # # # # ########## # ### #### ## #### ### # ########## # # # # # # ######### ######### ## ## ######### ######### , # # # # # # #ΓΈ# # # ######### ######### # # ### # # # # # # ### # # ### # # # # # # # ### # ############ ##### ############ # ### # # # # # # # ######## ######## ## ## ######## ######## # # # # # # # ########## # # ### # ### # ############ # # # # # ########## ### ##### ### #### ### ########## # # ### ### ###### #### ###### ### ###### #### ###### ## ## ### # # ##### #### ##### # # ### ## #### #### # ##### # ### #### # ## ## ### ######## ###### ###### ######## #### ## ### ##### ########## ##### ########## #### ## ##### # ## ######### ##### ######### ## #### ### ### #### ####### #### ### ### ### ### # ####### # ### ### #### # ############################### #### #### ################# ###### #### # # #### ###### ###### ######## # ####### ##################### =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 5- World Bingo [A500] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= You start by setting up the number of players and the number of games. Click 2 when they display 'Bet Now' and you can start switching between Bingo Cards with the Control Pad. Bet some Money from the $99 you start with and press 1/Start. A Number screen will appear. Click 2 to activate the machine and wait until your number pops up. The player who gets the first Bingo (Five in a row) wins the game. It is as simple as that. Off course, if you don't get it fast enough, you'll lose too. You can also edit your bingo cart and move around your numbers by using A, B, C, and D if you entered them. This is very handy.
