THE CASTLE The Castle is the predecessor to the much better known NES game CastleQuest. In it you play as a prince going to rescue his princess. There are 100 rooms to go through, and along the way you need to collect a bunch of different colored keys in order to get through doors that often allow access to other new rooms. Of course there are monsters and such as well to battle and crush, and there are even dead ends and loop backs that cost you time and anxiety or more likely both. 1-2. THE CASTLE VS. CASTLEQUEST Castle vs CastleQuest: CastleQuest has bigger rooms and more puzzles. Sometimes the possibilities got overwhelming. Castle has no backup feature, which is bad, so you can get stuck in a room with no way to kill yourself. Castle has far more ways to run into a dead end, i.e. loop back to a place where the oxygen you need to get past a pool is gone. Castle forces you to visit two fairies, but CastleQuest doesn't. Castle forces you to visit all rooms, but CastleQuest doesn't. CastleQuest lets you use your sword. Which is really kind of useless. CastleQuest incorporates some of The Castle's rooms into parts of an overall room puzzle. You need to scroll to see the whole CastleQuest room. The Castle allows you to speed up the game for boring parts where you are waiting for an elevating platform. CONTROLS AND SCORING There's no real way to move up or down permanently except for jumping to a new ledge, or taking a platform that goes up the top of the screen. Moving left or right can push a block if there is nothing blocking it to the side. Button 1 speeds/slows the game, and you'll want to toggle a lot. Button 2 jumps. Jumping is tricky. You can move left or right in midair, and you can dictate how high you jump by how long you hold button 2. If you hit a ceiling you can move to the side and around it. Jumping is useful when you are running in place on a treadmill. You don't have to do anything special to get an item. Push button 1 to start. 3. PIECES AND STRATEGIES First, you need to know how to avoid bad situations. In a new room, look for any potential ways you could get trapped for good. Work out a plan to stay away from it. Also, make sure that you have the world mapped well enough so that a pit below you doesn't leave you wondering if you should go there. Chances are, you probably shouldn't, although late in the game you need to loop a lot. There is no difference between a brick, a crate and a bag beyond how you can see them. A candle is almost the same as the others, but you cannot land on it. You can balance other pieces on it, though. If you push a piece and it can drop, it will fall. Pieces can't be pushed through a pulley. Arrow blocks tell which way a dumbwaiter can be pushed, unless it is blocked. You can balance one piece halfway on another one. You can often use a block of width 2 to span a 4-wide gap, if you place it right in the middle. You can push 3 blocks along at a time across the board as follows: 33 33 22 11 22 11 You can stand under a ledge, quickly jump to the side and back as you were to try to jump up. It usually works for 3 squares. The maximum you can go up is 4, and you use 1 square running into the top to start. 4. WALKTHROUGH (0002)-1 Jump up for the yellow key, unlock the yellow door, jump over the guy, and go right. (0102)-1 Push the brick into the guy. Get the yellow key to the right after you jump. Open the yellow door. (0202)-1 Get the blue key and retreat. (0102)-2 Push the red brick right 2 and jump on it, then right to get to the yellow key. Push the red brick above 2L and jump on it and over to the left. If you want to go left, you will get the map. With this walkthrough, the map is not necessary, but if you follow this walkthrough you'll also have a glut of blue keys. To waffle further, short jumping to the left and long jumping over the enemy before squashing it from the left(and exiting if the bag went too far right to push left) is good practice, but it may be a nuisance. If you take the detour, great, but if not, stand on the middle stair and jump left. Go into the corner and get the gold then jump right when the enemy is left. You'll need to run and jump over him. You can get both of the rings, but it isn't necessary. [0002]-2 Jump left when the guy goes left but not too high. Then quickly jump over him and jump left again. Push the bag right to crush him, but 1 tile away, then push the bag left, jump on it to get the cross, and open the blue door for the map. (0202)-2 Get on the elevator and go all the way up. (0203)-1 Go to the top, get the yellow keys and fall back down to the bottom under the platform. You can't do anything more here, so just go back down. (0202)-3 Push the blue thing right when at the bottom, then you may need to jump back left to push it just left of the conveyor. Stand 1/2 off it and jump left for a yellow. Get the blue key too. You can get the potion if you want but it is tricky. Stand next to the spikes, jump up and when just above them, go left. However, you may want to cut that and cycle over the box and jump up to the yellow door. (0302)-1 I'm not sure how best to navigate the annoying cats immediately(I've done it by accident, one of them anyway) but usually you can go to the bottom, grab the stuff and jump up between the platforms and go to the top yellow door on the right. You can wait by there to kill off one guy. The cats seem to react to where you are by moving to a certain spot. Then wait in the door to crush the other guy. Just speed the game up and eventually he'll synch up with the platform above and get crushed. Then you can run in for the blue key. Jump while on the conveyor and keep jumping left to get out of there. You can drop in to the right for the blue key after he goes left under you, but that is risky. (0402)-01 If you want, you can get the treasure beneath the force field. Go to the bottom then jump up for the gold, then the ledge, the cross, the other ledge and out when the red/blue is static. You can't jump to the far side but you can go down and get the potion. Slow the game for this jump. Hit the ceiling and move right so that you can just drop. Get the yellow key. Going down forces you back to the left side, so unlock whatever is to the right. (0502)-01 Push the barrel into the bishop. If you have to push it to the wall, exit and return. Push the barrel left and you can jump along the lower bit for a key and whatever treasure you want. Stand on the right edge of the center, 1/2 off, and jump right then left. When the red/blue starts, jump left a bunch for the yellow key. Run back and jump right. Get rid of the bishop by pushing the bag left after the red/blue starts. Exit the room and return. Now you can get the yellow key, and to exit, push the bag right(jump under the frozen red/blue) off the ledge, then right to the edge. You can stand on it and open the door. (0602)-01 Jump for the blue key. Go to the bottom. The fireball will chase you. Jump up and unlock the blue. Get the potion. Jump right when the fireball goes back left and floor it right. Jump up and stay half off the left for a left-right jump. Get the blue key and use a yellow one. (0702)-01 Drop a block on the blue guy to the right(if you miss, you can try again or push the block left,) then exit left and return. Get the blue key and then go back and (you can get the gold in the UR first) drop the block right on the released blue guy. You can probably drop the block left down the chute and it will kill the enemy. Jump down and mow down the plants with the barrel. Exit(half-off jumps again) and return to replace the block. You don't have a pink key yet, so you can't advance that way. But you can drop down. (0701)-01 Fall right to avoid the enemy. If you go to the DL corner he doesn't really follow--or you can jump over him at any rate. So do so. There are 6 islands here. 1 2 3 6 4 5 Jump to 4 for the cross, then 5 and 3 and jump over the monster for the yellow key. You can get the two rings as well. To get to the yellow door you need to jump 5-3-2-right. (0801)-01 Jump right then jump over the enemy and run right then fall back left. Jump over the bag and drop it right on the enemy. Push the bag right and then drop on it and jump left. Get the blue key and then push the bag right and jump on it to get to the blue door. (0901)-01 Jump down and push the block right to crush the enemy. You should be able to do so so you can push the block back left, i.e. have two spaces. Jump up for the three keys. Push the block left and jump out. (0801)-02 Fall down. (0800)-01 Fall down, pushing to the right slightly so you can jump left. This bit is tricky. You need to jump on the island, get the green key and fall near the spikes. If you die, no big deal, just fall to the bottom and run right when you regenerate. But if you escape, you can just run right. (0900)-01 Jump over the spikes as the platform comes down and you can get to the platform. Jump left when the platform goes back up one, and hold it down, and you will get to the left. You should have enough blue keys to get the pink. Be sure to jump at the edge so that you get the pink key and the potions. Go back up the platform. (0901)-02 If you want, you can jump over the bottom guy and the gap to get a yellow key, then jump back. This probably means the platform will take a while to get back up. Don't worry--they can't get on the platform with you. If you have the platform above after you get the yellow key, just fall and the platforms will carry you back up. Exit left. Above lets you loop around but you can't drop on either platform in 0801. **DETOUR** (0902) Get two keys, give two keys, fall left. Go left. (0801) Jump over the enemy along with the other jumps you need to make. (0701) Go left through the bottom door. (0601)-01 Use the barrel to jump to the platform, then get the yellow key. Exit left. (0501)-01 Head to the center. The cats will follow you. Go up the right and left and down for the yellow keys and they will follow you into the corner. Now you have a choice of doors. Go out the UR. (0601) Drop the barrel on the enemies, or at least make sure you drop it so you can push it into them. You can get two yellow keys now. Exit out the bottom. (0501) Exit out the bottom. UL/DL doesn't make a difference for key count but DL's more convenient. (0401)-01 Jump up to the right chamber and walk onto the platform. Go into the nook and when the platform comes down, jump for the blue key. To be conservative, go into the nook and wait for the platform to come down and run right and left. Now if you have extra lives, go on the conveyor and push right at its edge. Jump over the enemy for the yellow keys and get killed. On restart, jump up, then exit down the bottom. (0301)-01 You need to jump up to the right ledge. Then get the key and jump up when the guy is on the left and go hard left to sneak under him. Now you can jump for the keys and treasure on each side and follow the other guy to get the key on the left. Now go back with the jump when he's right and following the other guy. Ir you can just suicide. (0401)-02 Go UR and UL and use the brick to exit UL. (0301)-02 Go across the top with 4 jumps. (0201)-01 Get the two yellows below you by ducking into the niches. Run left on the platform--if you stop, you drop--and go out the DL. (0101)-01 Jump over the one enemy and exit left and right to save time going up the platform. Jump right away when you go back right. Jump over the enemies with keys still under them for yellows, which you trade on the right to get greens on the next screen, then come back. The cat may collide with you on your way up, so jump before you get there. Fall under the platform if you can and go to the next screen. (0001)-01 If you're really slick you can zoom in to the chamber and jump just as the cat appears, but it took me several tries to figure that out, so let's go with slow but sure. Zigzag jump up and at the top, drop left for the yellows but don't fall down the chute. The cat will probably be trapped in the chamber so just wait for the platform to go down and that should release him. Get the blue--if you're quick you won't have to wait for the platform to go U D U--and then go up. Jump over the plant when it folds in and go down the DL. The platform leads back to the introductory screen by the way. (0000)-01 Wow! Treasure. Get it first. Go to the right for the first lump as the cat will come down and fall right at the bottom. Once he does, he's useless. Place the block 1/2 over the spikes and stand 1/2 over it so it is easy to jump over the blue/red and go left. Jump for the green key. Then fall and go right. (0100)-01 You may need some patience to get right over the cats, but if all else fails you can drop the candle and push it into one or both of them. You can jump among the 1-islands to the exit in the UR. (0200)-01 Good thing you have all four green keys, eh? Just run through this boat- shaped level taking out the green doors and jump right after getting one to exit through the yellow. Be careful not to get too overzealous and fall down the final hole. (0300)-01 Get the blue key and unlock the left door. Jump for the oxygen and go along the bottom. You can afford to miss a jump along the way, but if you get killed, you get your time back, so if you miss two just kill yourself. {0400)-01 Jump up the ledges for the yellow key. Exit out the right. You can retreat when near the bottom to get the UL key, then exit right and blaze back DL. (0500)-01 Jump up the right ledge and left and right/hook left for a blue key. Get the oxygen and exit right. (0600)-01 Exit right again. (0700)-01 Jump to the 2nd-top left shelf, then the top, then the top right, and drop down. Jump right to the blue key and duck left/right below that. The big one is the blue key. I don't think the oxygen gets replaced, so make the jump count. (0800)-02 You're along the bottom now. Run right. (0900)-02 Should be easy to stand left of the spikes, jump right a bit and land. Open the blue door and the fairy gives you a red key. The jumps back are a bit tricky but even if you get killed you start past the spikes. Now go back to 00,02. That means up at 0100 and 0001. (0700)-03 Run left onto the platform and run left when it's near the top. Navigate the tricky jumps by hitting the ceiling. (0600)-02 (0500)-02 Just run along the left and you'll be ok. Run quickly under the ship and up the left. Drop left and be sure that the platform is coming down, too. Take the platform up. Go left to 0001 then take the UL platform. (0002)-02 Watch out. Without the door a guy comes right at you. Jump to avoid him and run right. This should be easy by now. Work back to (0702??) where you can use the pink key now. (0802)-01 You may need to execute some tricky jumps here. Over the plants is not so bad. I think it's best to just hold down the jumps when the blocks are nearby--you need to run with them once they are under. And to get from one to the above one is risky because you may hit your head. So I try to go from the first stable platform to the area with the spikes. For the UL, just try to land on the platform when you fall after jumping up. Then drop right and remember to jump to get the UR keys. (0902)-01 Just go up the platform here. The two witches will probably join each other but I find I need to jump next to the one right away to help it sometimes. I don't know why. You need to get on the right edge of the ledge with the blue key and jump left quickly, before the platform is up there, then run left and jump up and go right when trapped, then fall off the right. Wait for the platform as it comes back down. Watch for if an enemy lands on it as you may jump over it. You may also be able to go under the platform to get the witches NOT to go to the level above--they just stay on the platform and get crushed. ** this may be one you can just bypass. You should have extra blues. (0903)-01 Push a bag right to jump on it to get all the treasure and climb to the top. Then go out the UL. (0803)-01 These are tough instructions so if at any time the walkthrough fails, or you make a bad jump, just get the 4 blue keys and get killed. It's important to get killed as otherwise you will have to go left and loop a bunch. Drop and get the cross on the right. One guy will fall. Then jump onto the box. Fall right and left. Push the box below 1L and jump on it quickly and drop left. The other guy will go the other way. Push it 1R and get on the box and push a top one off. Crush the cat at the bottom and now you can use the boxes to work your way back up and get what treasure you can. (0703)-01 A tough jump here as you need to walk on the platform and jump onto the conveyor belt. Keep jumping continually and when the platform comes by, jump and go left and drop on it and quickly jump left. There's a small ledge you can execute the next jump from. Not much to do, but the timing is tough, and there are temptations of other exits, which send you the wrong way. You don't need the invincibility, so go left. (0603)-01 Go up the platform. Slow the game down here. Fall right into the corner and run left along the moving platform. Jump up when 1R of the spike and, just before the top, barrel left. Another jump can get you to the other side, or you can wait in the corner to jump on the moving platform when it returns, then up. Collect the loot and make a big jump left and right at the bottom for the green key. Go left. You have a square to spare, but you do NOT want to drop down. That kicks you back quite a bit. (0503)-01 Jump over the bishop and then over the middle brick. Push it 2 right. You will have to wait to go down before going back right. The bishop gets close to you but doesn't touch you. Push the brick so the one above can fall on it. Then bring the other one to the right. You'll want: 33 33 11 22 11 22 Then push 2 right, 1 right and 3 right, and repeat until you're right enough to get the greens. There are so many ways this can go wrong that it is ideal for save states. (0504)-01 Go west. No choice here. The right is trapped. (0404)-01 Jump so you land on the bottom platform on the third bounce. Run right with it and jump, then jump again to reacn the top one--now you can really only go right. (0504)-02 Jump over the enemy and on the right, push the block and get the two blues. Push the block left and when the enemy is on the right, push the block into the gap. That should splatter him, but if not, go right and left and try again. (0604)-01 Jump right immediately in the next room to get on the platform and get blue keys to the left. Then do the same for the right. Going up the right and looping gets you points and lives, so don't pay much attention to that. Similarly going up left trades a yellow key for other stuff, so don't worry about that. Go back left, drop down the hole and right, then go along the bottom, jumping over the gaps. (0704)-01 Push the block at the bottom of the platform 1R then go 1L. Repeat for the next 4. You can be at their bottom half. Go to the top, where you push that one off the edge. Push the next 3 top off the edge too. Walk across to the light blue door. (0804)-01 Tap right, then go right and jump over the block in the middle, softly enough just to clear it. Keep running right and you will exit via the yellow door. Note that if you are a half-step late you will unlock the door and die, but the next time you'll make it. (0904)-01 Jump over the witch, probably not with a full jump, for the potion, and go left to get to the next room. (0804)-02 You can stand on the edge and jump left and get all the keys that way. It's not hard to calculate your landing and jump again and bounce a bit. Go up the center. (0805)-01 Jump up for the yellow key in the corner when the platform nears and run right and jump over the middle bit. Jump on the next platform up and run right and left and hook in above to where the bishop is. Jump over him and open the green door. (0905)-01 Fall down and position yourself 2L of the candle. Jump briefly over it and jump again, timing the jump so you let go when you can coast DR so you can push the lower candle back left. That crushes the enemy, AND you will be able to crush the candle with the platform. Now fall off to the right. In fact, jump and hook left so you will wind up on the left edge of the gap. Then hold left for the next bit. (0904)-02 Hold left so that you can get the oxygen and wind up in the water, then get the pink key, go right and make a big jump left. Go back left to (0704)-02 and then jump left over the center and run left. (0704) Get the crosses if you like. Then go up the shaft. (0705) Here you need to push the block across the platform. Since you move at equal speed with the platform, push the block 1 square right and when the platform is 3R, push right. Jump on it. Crush the bishop and get the crosses. If you push the bishop into the wall bymistake, crush him and get killed by the platform. (0605) Push one box left and they will both get crushed. Then go up the next time the platform does. (0606) Go left. (Right leads to a loop.) When the red/blue stops, jump over it and get the yellow key and, if you want, the ring. Go left. (0506) Use the block to push the cat left. Retreat and come back if you want. Jump on the block to get the right blue key and hop on the conveyor for the left. When the cat on the left is at the right of his run, fall down and zigzag to get to the yellow door. There's treasure behind it. Then fall down the gap. (0505) Go to the right to get two potions. Come back and get invincibility. You can fall righ and go left. You don't need to get the platform, but it helps. You do however need to get around the block without touching it and before the invincibility wears off. (0405) Jump up and land on the first column and walk along. When you have 2 blocks between you and the spikes, jump up. Then R L. If you want you can get the potion etc to the right but you mainly want to jump left when both enemies are about touching the left of their runs. (0404) This room looks familiar. You will get the blue you couldn't quite reach. Fall right and go left. Fall left. You can get all 3 gold if you kill yourself and restart. (0403) Go right to start, jump right, and you can cut back left to get the oxygen, then fall DR and go right, fall, left. (0303) A speed level. Go 4L, jump up, jump up again and go right. Jump up twice, the second time swerving left, then fall down the left and exit the yellow door. (0203) You can push the bricks left into the platform as it goes up and down, and once all four are taken care of, you can get the pink key without needing a green one. Then, go back across the water and get the treasure after going U L. (0103) fall down for three yellows. Then run left(must wait for the platform to go there and back) and jump to get the key and potion and fall left. (0003) Get the potion. Jump to the right, then push the leftmost block left when you can, then wait for it to come up and push left again, moving back quickly right. Push the right block 4R then 2L. You can keep pushing it left until it is 2L of the other block. Jump on it then push it left. You can speed things up by jumping to the platform you will push it from. You should be able to push this brick far enough over left to get into the corner, but if not, you can try with the far-right one. Take and platform up. (0004) Go right. (0104) Run right, jump right and go back left. Then jump left. Quickly jump left again and then jump up the side and wait for the platform to pass. Jump a stair up to reach the potion, then go to the center and jump for the blue keys. In the left, jump to get on the platform and run right into the door. (0204) Get the blue key just above. Go to the bottom and sweep that out. Stand 1R of the center and jump right when the platform is between the reds and land on it. Land on the left top of the red and jump left. Jump right when the block goes right under the blues and you'll get it on the rebound. Jump again for the blue key. Get the blue on the rebound again but this time jump straight up so you can land on the platform and walk right. (0304) Drop right and wait. Jump UR. Jump UR again. Be 1/2 off the right dge and wait for the platform to be level with the base f the pillar(ie it top=pillar's bottom on the right) and drop right when the DR cat is at its left. You'll make it. (0305) A bunch of keys here. Push one boulder onto the pulley and then push the arrow block left so that you can jump over the dumbwaiter and push the bag right. Push the dumbwaiter down and raise another block and push it right. The only thing yo watch out for is pushing the arrow block off the side. You can stand on the edge to jump for everything else. You don't have to ma sure that when you drop something, it lands on a bishop, because you can just jump for the keys. Oh and don't push bags into each other or off th edge. Of course if you mess up you can retry after going left as you should have enough yellows. But it is the pinks you need. If you want you can even cut corners by dropping in 2 blocks and letting the bishop kill you. (0205) Run immediately left and do a small jump up and right to get on the barrel and avoid the candle. Let go immediately once that happens. Move 1 right. Jump to land on the first sack that falls, then jump right-left to go over the sandbag and walk left below the spikes. Fall left. Go to the left edge. Save an emulator state here. Jump just high enough to get on the first platform. Then repeat twice when you land and walk left. (0105) Push the arrow block 3R and then you can put a barrel in the dumbwaiter. Push the arrow 4L and put the barrel almost against 2R of the left edge. Push the arrow 1L again. Then push the arrow back 4. Put another barrel on the waiter and push the arrow 6L. Push the barrel in the crawlspace left. Push the top barrel 3L and now go right and up. Go to the right edge of the arrow platform and jump right-left to get to the top with the guard almost over you. Go to the center, jump up to let him by, and fall left to get to the door. The jump is tricky but not risky. (0005) Jump left and then jump UR and jump over the barrels. Tip the left one left and push it 1R. Jump on it and drop the top one right onto the enemy. Push the next barrel above L R and now you can You can push the left one right and then, to crush the enemy, follow with the next one. Keep doing so and eventually you will drop one down the hatch so you can push it left and squash the remaining enemy. Leave the room and return and it's clear sailing. Remeber to jump over the spikes, of course. (0004)-02 Save a state here just in case before you jump in the water. Drop down and get the oxtgen and hustle left to get on the platform. Jump right ASAP and go into the water and jump UL UR to get to the fairy. Red key #2! You may wind up dying after you get the key, but that's no problem. You may have a quick run and a tricky jump to get out as well, but the computer gives you some time. Nothing left to do but go up two levels. (0006)-01 Go right and jump right when the plant in the box vanishes. Then hit the right edge hard to avoid the cat and jump up and go up the diagonal. Crush the cat and jump on the barrel and jump up and go right through the pink door. (0106)-01 Push 6 1R then 5 1R and drop 3 on 5. Drop 4 to the right, then have 1 follow it. Push the 2nd top brick 1R. Then push 2 all the way left and right so you can push the top brick right. get the potions and exit the pink door. 1 2 3 4 5 6 (0206) This is another tricky timing(read: save states ready!) level where you will want to jump right just after the plant disappears for the first time, then fall right when you get on the platform to the right, but be sure to go left so that you do not get trapped in the top of 0205, which is lethal. Wait for the plants to disappear so that you are able to jump quickly off to the right and land on the platform, then take another big leap right. You can also make two quick jumps if you calculate the platform above will be under you, and you can always muck about in the air before landing back down. If you can get to the UR corner and get some good stuff, then drop right and jump UR at the right time, more power(ups) to you. (0306) Floor it right. Push the bag behind you 2L then jump up and go left when the bag drops left. Push the bag that drops right of you 2R and jump over it and get the treasure. All the bags will collapse, and you just need to push the top one left. Hold down the jump button to walk through the rest of this. Grab the potions and leave left. (0406) Drop down and push the barrel right. Then push it left to the treasure. The enemy will chase you. You can go to the bottom and then rub him out at your leisure. Now you need to hook back with a jump, pushing right just before you jump in the niche at the UL of the diagonal. (0506) Drop the block on the conveyor and, as it falls, run and jump right. Land on it and jump right again. (0606) With the first move/jump, go to the right of the area with the spikes. After a second and a half of stoppage, jump on the red/blue and floor right. Worst case, you die. Best case, you make it right. It's better to be too aggresive than too passive here as if you just miss, you fall to the bottom. (0706) you probably have enough lives stockpiled by now to be able to get two blues with the oxygen. Use one life to get that. You can get out, and if you get back left of the sack, wait a second when the field disappears and you'll just make it back up. Then push the bag across the red/blue 1/3 of the screen at a time to get to the next puzzle. (0806) Floor it right and when you hit the edge, fall left then twist right in midair. That gets you 2 yellow keys too. (0906) Not much to do here though you can jump under the platform and back to sucker enemies onto the platform so they get crushed. Not recommended without save states because you will fall WAY back. Go up on the platform when you fel like it. Don't bother with invincibility for treasure--there are no keys. If an enemy gets on the platform with you, jump for dear life and try for invincibility then. But it shouldn't happen. (0907) Jump up just before you are level with the enemies. Then go to the left and jump up if need be, then head to the left edge on the next ledge up- -this often catches an enemy. You may have to catch a few and go back down to 0906 and come back up. If you take the platform down, remember to jump in the center as well. (0908) Sneak in to the right and right-jump for the pink key. Then get on the platform and open the door to the left. Run on to the platform and jump just before the left edge. You may need to tap right before you land for safety but you should be able to open the door to the left and enter it. The first, at the very least. You die, but you get to try again. (0808) 2L, jump and go left and let the flame go by. Make short jumps for the gold and the green key. Sneak in with a few more winding jumps up the left side and push the barrel next to the exit to get the green door. (0708) Turn back to the other room and it is a simple matter to drop a barrel on everyone and everything. Why not? Tumble left and jump up when the platform hits the left. Then jump for the green keys. Drop on the platform when it returns left. You probably don't need a blue key, and I think you need to sacrifice a life for it, i.e. get it, touch the cat and go DL. Your choice. (0707) Get the potions and go right. (0807) You have to get both green keys here, and this is a nasty timing puzzle. I just use what lives I can here. I need two, one for each green key, because I have no clue how to get out. Drop when the UL platform is below the yellow key and go left. When the UL comes back right from the left, you have a split second to jump and go left behind it. Then jump up the left side. Get killed and hang off the right of the center platform. Repeat the instructiosn, but mirrored. To get past, drop onto the UL platform as it goes right and jump up twice. Now if you go right, it leads to a lot of potions(D L and the puzzle where you outrun the arrow block) where worst case, you die to get 4, then you return, but left is a good puzzle. You can get the yellows with a timely jump, but they are nearly worthless at this late stage. (0707) push the barrel 3L so you can jump on it when the other two pieces land on it. Jump on them and over the belt. Take the green door. (0607) Look at all the blocks! Lucky you got those green keys. You'll be pushing a lot of blocks into the pit--all 6 in fact--to get the green and pink keys, and preemptive running into a wall helps. The formula is as follows: push the first block into the blue pit. Open a door and push the second block onto the descending platform, then right. Repeat with the other block behind the door. Push the other blocks onto the platform and jump into the doors so that you can push the blocks back right. It takes a while, but I guess you really need that pink key. (0507) Turn things slow before entering the room. Jump up, go 4L, then 2L and 2R and then jump 1U quickly. If you are perfect, you can get to the platform before it goes up, but it's probably best to wait. Then there is a run to the left, jump U 4L and fall left. Now for the final jump make sure the narrow platform is descending before you start, or you may get trapped. When it is 1 above the spikes, run left. (0407) Go left quickly and jump up and go right. Jump UL then wait for the next cat to fall and long-jump left then UR then left then UR(between two blocks, a bit tricky so be prepared to retreat) and go to the UL. Some annoying cats may stand on the block above the DL but you can stand right of them and drop right and swerve left. (0307) Push the arrow block 2R. Jump on the left dumbwaiter and push the sandbag over the top first. A lot of jumping from one edge to above. You can kill the enemy dropping the bag when he goes right of the arrow. Now you should be able to push both sandbags off the edge to the left. Push the arrow block 2R more and now ylu can fall left and jump UR and push one of the bags left and walk over it to get to the yellow door. (0207) Save a state as falling down ruins your game. Pretty simple ledge jumping here but the big trick is to stand at the red edge, jump, wait a half-second and THEN go left. If you miss the left ledge, swerve back right to hit the spikes, or just reload your state. The last ledge jump is a bit claustrophobic but not terribly tough. (0107) Push the top red block 5L so it is in the center of the platform, then push the other red block 2L so it falls on the right, running beforehand to avoid squashing. Let your guy fall left of the block and then push it right and push the other left into a hole. Now you need to move quickly to kick the other block left before it is crushed. Jump on it and be prepared to push it off the left edge. Push the bag onto the platform at the bottom(to the right) and then jump up and wait to push it left at the top. Push the box left. Push the candle 2L and the bag L then push the box onto the platform as it goes down. Now you can kick the candle and bag 2L with hook jumps. The box goes on top. Now you can drop the candle and bag in the gap--so you can run over the bag to pt the block on the platform! Run into the platform beforehand of course. Push the box left til it falls then right and push the box UL of it. Whew. (0007) Here just get killed for the pink though you can try to slash by the flame. It's best to stand at the opposite corner of the key you want to take if you want to live, but otherwise stand 1R of the pink, go up when the flame goes right, and jump again. Then get on the platform after a few trivial(by now) jumps. (0008) Just go up for now. You can't complete this. (0009) Grab the keys to the right. Stand on the right edge of the open space. Jump on the lowest platform straight up, then on the top, then quickly jump UL. Get the green with the first jump, the pink with the second. Long jump right. (0109) With all the guys gone, line the blocks up vertically on the right. Push the bottom into the dumbwaiter. Push the arrow block 6L and push the red block 6R. Details: Push the lower block right. Get stuff. Jump on the dumbwaiter and kill the top guy. Push the arrow 1L. Kill guy #2. Arrow 3R, kill bottom guy after pushing DR block. Exit and reenter. Push lower block to DR-3L. Drop middle block on it. Arrow 3L so you can push the top one. Arrow 5R and then 3L. Push the block 2L. Push the arrow 2L and then 2R. Push the block over. Push the block 4R. Push the bottom brick 1L and then side-jump up the right. Arrow 6L, block 4R. (0209) Drop. When the DL platform hits the left edge, drop again. You can just die now and jump right when you are on the right side of the platform, or you can try to jump up, run UR and jump at the last minute, and do some more juggling to go right. (0309) Fall to the left. (0308) Just get the green key and kill yourself. The platforms are too much trouble, DL to UR to UL. Then take the green door out. You can't reach the purple. (0208) Run on the platform to the left and jump--count one-one-thou before letting go, then take two big long jumps. (0108) Get the keys and kill yourself if you want. You get two potions back. But the keys aren't too valuable. Jump left. (0008) Push the box over when the enemy is 3 squares from the center. Get the ring and gold. Jump for the oxygen. Go right. (0108) Run right. (0208) When the platform hits the other side, get the oxygen. Then run over the platform to the right. (0308) Bounce onto the conveyor and right off to the exit quickly. (0408) Get out of the water with a hook jump ??** and jump through the red/blue and run left. Jump right of the spikes and go right. The door leads back to the pool where you couldn't get before. You won't see anything new. There are lots of traps to the right. Just run to the right. (0508) Get the keys. Jump over the bishop. Go through the blue door. (0608) jump over the witch, then the flowers. The gold is a nice segue & gives you an easy jump. Go back left. (0508) Go up the stairs and down and left. Go right once you faked the cat out and get the purple keys. Drop the safe down the left side. Crush the bishop for fun. Go up the platform. (0509) Jump UL and UR. Jump up and wait and go right so that you jump horizontally. Get the blue key and then at the bottom, jump straight up and fly right. (0609) Get the two potions and fall through. (0608) Fall left. (0508) Go left. (0408) break the blue/red. Get the treasure. (0409) Push the sandbag left so you are leaning off the edge. Loop-jump right and then jump left. (0309) Get the three keys. Fall right. (0308) Go through the purple door. No choice really. (0408) Go down the blue/red and fall right. Loop through 0608 and to the top of it as before except this time instead of falling left, takee the purple door. Just a long jump left should do it. Then go up the platform and back right, using your final pink key. (0609) Slow down for this. Save states after each successful jump. When the platform is 1L of the right edge and going left, jump up but not too hard. Go right to land and jump again. Now you have to wait for the force field to die so wait until then and then jump up and floor it right. Go back to fast and jump, wait 1/2 second and floor it right. Yuo should make it right, but you can always loop again. (0709) Push the right bag 6R(pending platform) and the other to 4L of it. Push the other 1L and then push the right bag onto the left one. You may need 2 trips up/down. Then run the barrel over them to squash the purple guy. Lean it off the left and jump onto the lower platform then the above one. Push the arrow block 3R, then 2L. You can now walk under it and the spikes. (0809) This is a good tough final pure-thinking puzzle(the next room is a timing puzzle.) You need to create a leaning tower of barrels up the right edge to get to the red key door. How to do this is NOT at all obvious. Push the bottom brick left to 2R of the DL. Jump up and push the barrel half off the right edge. You have a way to loop around now. Push the bottom brick 3R. Then get on the middle brick and left-right hook-jump to get to the top brick. Push it right off the edge. Push the former middle brick right and then push the bag under the gap to the right. Push the other bag over it. Push the top brick 1R and then the remaining one off the right edge. You should have a row of 3 bricks on the bottom. Now at the top, push the 2nd-left barrel 2L and the candle 2L. Then push the left barrel 2L. Push the 2nd-left barrel down the hatch and the rightmost 2R. You can now jump over it and go back around and push the barrel in the hatch right, onto the bottom barrel. This starts your leaning tower. Push the leftmost barrel right and loop around to push it right on the 2nd- bottom barrel, and balance it on the right edge. Drop the next barrel over it--it should fall 2 and be just left of the right platform. Then drop the top barrel right and balance it on the right edge of the barrel below. You can jump on the barrel and unlock the door to the right. (0909) Drop when the cats collide in the center. Go all the way right and drop the jug on an enemy. Exit and re-enter. Repeat. Repeat again--this time dropping something on the enemy when you are at the right edge(after the first jug drop) and the cat is 1L of the princess. For the final drop you need to fake the enemy out even more. Land on where the soldiers were. When the cat is going left under the princess, drop left then run right and he'll be oblivious. Drop the jug on him. Again crush him, exit and re-enter. Neither animals nor jug block you now. Get under the ledge with the Princess and now do a soft hook-jump to win. Better too soft than too strong. **** More paint by numbers but the numbers are from trig and the paint is psychedelic. 5.
