He's an assassin who commands huge sums of money. Why? He indeed makes the impossible possible. The man can shoot through two windows of one building, then into the next and place his bullet squarely between your eyes. And that's simplifying the situation! While this game is not quite what you'd expect if you've played Top Secret Episode or Mafat Conspiracy I can assure you that it is at least fun. And Togo still kicks all sorts of hind quarters. I felt a hankering to write about a Golgo 13 game, so I decided on this one, without any love, in a section with no love. Enjoy. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | G13B: Gameplay | -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Alright, if you're expecting the same thing as the NES games, guess again. You can only make Duke Togo do two actions: move and shoot. Golgo is leaning out of his car, aiming with his gun. You can move the car left and right, and make him shoot. If you move up.down, you will move his crosshairs. _|_ The crosshair can only be moved up and down, you must move the car in | order to aim left or right. Also, Duke's car will move backwards by default, you will need to keep catching up with your target. So what exactly _is_ your target? It's a train, and you must shoot out all of its windows in the timeframe. When you shoot a window out, a passenger will jump out and run away. Now, I'm going to save you some time here - you can't shoot them. I know I wasted plenty of time thinking my hits were getting away, but you are actually rescuing these people. When all of the people have escaped, the next round begins. Also note that a round is _not_ over until the target train has left the screen so if there's a helicopter missile firing at you, still try to dodge it. Taking out the train's windows just freezes the time limit until the train can get off the screen. Then round is _really_ over. Helicopters are Golgo's agressive enemy, you will have to dodge their missiles. Other than them, there are a few foes that your bullets will ricochet off of. Your screen: +---------------------------+---------+ | | HIGH | | | SCORE | | | 0 | | | | | | SCORE | |___________________________| 0 | <--- this is the level of your target. | | | | | TIME | |___________________________| 90 | <--- this is the midground track. | | | | | ROUND | | | 1 | <--- this is the road. | | | |___________________________| LIVES | | | | <--- you are at the bottom of the +---------------------------+---------+ screen. Please note that you cannot aim lower than the midground track unless something is in the way. LIVES are represented as handguns. *!Possible Strategy!* It should be noted that you scroll the train onscreen, and if most of it is on the screen then you can have some difficulty hitting the back windows as you dodge enemy shots. The extreme windows are hard to hit anyways... so, using the knowledge that you can scroll the train offscreen by driving right, drive the train offscreen then as you drift backwards, the train should be appearing slowly, giving you plenty of chances to hit the windows as they come. However, there are some obvious failings to this, as you shall see. Afterall, you _will_ have to move out of the way sometime. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | G13C: Rounds | -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ********* Round 1 ********* Time: 90 This round is simple, as there is only one way you can possibly die. The train that is ahead of you (not in the background) has two types of cars: Low and High. The high cars will actually bounce your bullets back at you, destroying your car and costing you a life. Major bummer, thummer down! However, this is only if your aim is interrupted by the car. For instance, you _can_ shoot above them. Unfortunately, to hit the train in the background your air will be at a bounceable level. The cars are usually pretty spaced out so don't try anything too sneaky at this point. Your target, as discussed, is the train in the background. Aim the cursor so that it is level with a window. Now, what you should do is pull up past a window you want to shoot out. Yes, you can try to shoot it out as you drive past but the easiest way to hit the window is to let the car drift backwards as you take your shots. Free all of the prisoners, and it's round 2! ********* Round 2 ********* Time: 90 First of all, notice that the high cars are now alternating the amount of cars they are spaced between. They will be spaced by two, then twice they'll be spaced by one. Don't be afraid to shoot in the one-space, it's still a pretty wide window of opportunity. You just have to be more careful and time your shots. When dealing with a space like this, you could probably more or less try to stay in one place - that is move slightly forward, drift back, move slightly forward. This will keep your car more or less in the same place, and if you are trying to hit a target between the smaller space it is an effective alternative to the drift-back-drive-by. The train will likely get most of itself onscreen in this round, the hardest windows to hit in this case will be the backmost windows. I realize these are the first you see but you'd be surprised how often you don't go after them because of how the cars space themselves in that middle train. Well, the middle train will dictate how you go after the back train to some extent but if you can squeeze off a few shots at the back of the train and bust some windows it will make your life a lot easier when the timer has half depleted. Speaking of the timer, learn to do all of this fanciness I'm describing with some haste. Never forget that you are on a timer so do _not_ be discriminating if you have the opportunity to blast a window. I will mention the new enemy in this stage: Trucks. Trucks will bounce your rounds back at you as well, and they're a lot closer than the high train cars so dodging the ricochet is significantly more difficult. However, it's not that utterly hard because they are so obvious. First of all, they make a noise when they appear, and they are very obvious on the screen. Just let it pass you by before shooting. By the way, you can aim above a truck and still shoot, but to do that you must aim above the background train. Final word about trucks: They can appear at different distances, I'd say the normal truck distance is on the far end of the the street, but they _can_ drive almost up to Duke as well, so watch your back. They change distances more often on later rounds. ********* Round 3 ********* Time: 90 Alright, most of the high cars on the mid train are spaced by one low car. That is fine, but some of them are not spaced by any cars at all. You _can_ shoot between them but ultimately you don't _have_ to. Moreover in this stage you are going to have to act quickly so the drift back returns to an extent, aim your gun properly and blast the windows as quickly as you can. The trucks make their return, and in a way they are more threatening now that you have less space. You can deal with the same way as always. Perhaps the largest threat here is the arrival of Helicopters. They shoot a missile at you and fly away. To deal with the missile, you can shoot it or if you don't want to reset your aim, let it track you across the screen and move out of the way when it's at about truck level distance. It is slow moving so just keep on shooting that train until you have to dodge. By the way, you can also shoot the helicopter. However, they often arrive one after the other so eventually you will have to deal with their missiles if you hope to progress in the game. Just aim high and shoot them, trucks and high cars will not interrupt your shot. ********* Round 4 ********* Time: 90 Round 4 is virtually the same as Round 3, with the key difference being in the trucks. Trucks will now appear at different distances on the road, even right in front of you more often than before. They also appear very frequently. Combined with the choppers, and the layout of the middle train's high cars, this can be a discouraging situation, but you should be able to take out more than one window with every break you get. For instance, if enough of the train is onscreen, you can follow the low car across the train firing at it. You can also fire after the truck has passed because two trucks will not be on the screen at the same time, so until it goes offscreen you are safe to shoot at windows on the far right. ********* Round 5 ********* Time: 90 Just like Round 4, this is how the stages will be from here on out. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | G13D: Credits | -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Thanks to Saito for the Duke Togo character and legend.
