INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to 'Congo Bongo' for the SG-1000, released by Sega in 1983. The game was released on many platforms, with minor adjustments and different controls fitting to that system. However, I find that the different perspective of the level makes my strategies unusable for those versions, and thus the guide is not linked to any of them. BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== The aim of the game is to catch the gorilla at the end of a level. You have to dodge several enemies and obstacles along the way. You start out with 2 extra lives. Losing a life means the that you need to restart the current level. Controls: ````````` The D-pad controls the directions you walk. Use either button to jump. Control the jump direction with the directional keys before you jump off, as once you are in the air you just drop straight down again like a bag of rice. So bad are the physics of this game. Score: `````` You get 10 points for simply taking steps may it be forward or backwards. Naturally you want to progress in the levels. There is a 5,000 point bonus that will decrease with each second you do not finish the game. If you play for high score then you may want to complete it as fast as possible. When the time runs out you lose. Display: ```````` The top displays the current top score, the bonus points / time left for this. On the right is your current score, the amount of players (lives) left and the round you are playing. =============================================================================== 03.) ROUNDS G0300 =============================================================================== ********* *Round 1* ********* Level 1: ```````` The aim of this level is to reach the same platform the gorilla is standing on at the very top of the level. There is no need to actually touch him. He throws coconuts in multiple directions which is just to the left and right off him but also down towards the platform below. If one of the coconuts hits you then you are knocked down to the lower platform, requiring you to climb back up. If there is water below, then you die. Take note that you can also walk up and down on the paths, even the really narrow one. Use this knowledge to dodge the monkeys. The monkeys will want to attach themselves to your body, and you can only walk slowly as well as jump less high. To shake them off simply walk a few steps or jump around a little. You start at the bottom left. Reach the first ladder. Climb up and go left. At the large block you need to walk towards the back first, then continue right across the long bridge. Down the slope, jump a small gap and climb up the longer ladder. You cannot go back up the slop by the way. Dash left over the short bridges and then get up to the top. Get the last few jumps right to reach the gorilla. Level 2: ```````` The gorilla doesn't do anything in this level. The only hazards are snakes which will hunt you down when they see you. You can lure them away by standing on one side of the island, away from where you want to go. Be clever about this and make sure they do not just walk back after you move as well. The other danger on this level is the water, which you cannot fall into. All the small islands are connected with some small bridges or logs. Walking from one to the other will get you towards the gorilla. There are also shortcuts such as the leafs, dolphin and the hippo. You must use the hippo to reach the other side where the gorilla is standing. Even the dolphin's tale can be used as a bridge, so don't be too shy to jump as long as it's all the way on the right of that island. The shortest route would be to jump on the leaf that is just to the right. It will take you right where the bottom snake is patrolling. Go north and use the dolpin as a stepping stone. If this is too dangerous for you then quickly run around on the east side. When you make it to the end, lure the snake away and then make a run for it across the hippo. Alternatively, make sure the snake is all the way on the right side and the hippo is about to emerge on the exact opposite. Make a run for it. ********* *Round 2* ********* Level 1: ```````` The same as Round 1, but without the second of the small bridges. Level 2: ```````` What has changes is that there is another snake on the left- and rightmost islands. As you most likely will take the shortcuts across to the right this does not really affect you at all. ********* *Round 3* ********* Level 1: ```````` The gorilla seems to throw more coconuts now. As for the rest of the level, this time the other small bridge is missing. Level 2: ```````` There is a new snake again. It will walk from the top rightmost island along to the left where you land after taking the dolphin shortcut. A little more annoying than the previous change. ********* *Round 4* ********* Level 1: ```````` Both small bridges are out. A little more jumping action is all you need. You really need to take care of getting across where the three palm trees are located as the gorilla likes to throw coconuts there a lot and they will take you straight down into the water. Level 2: ```````` Not only is your precious short-cut leaf gone, but the first log as well. Jump across, then get around to the right and jump over the snake when it is coming towards you on the log. Then continue as usual. ********* *Round 5* ********* ...and beyond. The levels simply repeat from now on. You can try to get a higher score until the lives run out. There is most likely a limit on the rounds, perhaps 99. =============================================================================== YY.)
