Here, I will provide info throughout the entire game as well as tricks to help you get to be the star golfer you may have always dreamed of! Let's begin with the controls, shall we? Controls Note that the Beginner's Guide can be toggled on or off in the Options menu. Other controls are the following during the round: Before taking the shot: You can use the directional buttons to move the target left or right depending on the situation. Normally, you'll want to target the fairway, but some are unique. Pressing the triangle button will zoom the camera in and pressing circle will zoom it out. Pressing the touch pad will show a fly-by view. Pressing the square button will add 10 yards to a club for a power shot. These are limited, so save them for par 5's. Taking the shot: Press X to start the guage. Press it again to set power and press it one more time for impact at the end of the swing. There's a more advanced technique which I'll detail when the time comes. There is also an auto impact system, which has the third shot determined randomly for you. You can still do spin shots, but it's riskier. Topspin: During impact, you can press and hold the up directional button for topspin. This lets the ball get some more distance in. If you press and hold down during power and up during impact and get perfect impact, you'll perform a super topspin, which does a bit more than a regular topspin. Sidespin: During impact, you can press and hold the left or right buttons to make the ball curve. This is especially handy for going around obstacles. If you press and hold left during power and right during impact and get perfect impact, you'll perform a super sidespin. The same is true for the opposite directional buttons. Backspin: During impact, you can press and hold the down directional button to apply backspin, which mostly stops the ball sooner than later. If your power percentage is 80% or higher and it lands close enough on the green...well, we'll talk about that later. Best not get ahead of ourselves, eh? Also, if you press and hold up during power and down during impact and get perfect impact, you'll perform a super backspin, which does more than a regular backspin. Tutorial If this is your first playthrough, welcome! You'll meet the chairman Suzuki and one of his assistants, Hikari. You'll then decide on a nickname for the custom character you'll create that you can change at any time after. Once you have decided on a name, you will then make your custom character. There will be limited parts to start, but you can earn tons more as you complete challenge tourneys as well as buy some from the shop. When you're happy with your character, it's time to take a little stroll. Follow the arrow to talk to the man nearby who will introduce himself as Specs. He'll give a rundown of a few things then you'll be instructed to talk with Hikari again. She'll talk about the offline mode along with Suzuki and once that's done, it's time to offically begin the adventure! While the game loads a course, you'll see many helpful tips about the game. You can also practice your shots while the course is loading if you choose. Rank 1 You could decide to take on a challenge tournament right away if you want. For now, walk around the Home Area and talk to some people to learn more about the game. After that, talk to the short, old man standing next to a camera to start a quiz mini game. Correctly answer all 10 questions correctly and you'll be awarded with the Landing Point camera. He'll instruct you to come back once you reach Rank 3 to take the next set of quizzes, so it's time to continue. First, if you are able to go online, go to the only available open course and once there, walk around or start the round until you come across coins and other stuff you can pick up. They'll come in handy, trust me, especially the gems. There is no shame in not getting everything, so once you're done, head back to the Home Area and start your first challenge tournament. The golf level of the challenge tourney golfers of this rank vary from 5-7. The higher level, the more they'll perform. There are 15 golf levels in this game with two additional levels added through a patch. It is very difficult to get those last two levels and are not quite necessary to show how skilled you may get. If you have the Green C.C. or the Balata C.C. DLC courses, they'll be selectable in Rank 1. If you've bought any of the DLC courses also, they'll be immediately available to venture on their respective open courses. Now then, before selecting a tournament, press the square button to turn on Serious Mode. This will make your opponents play a little better, but they're not hard enough to warrant any serious issues. As long as you handle each hole carefully, you'll be winning tournaments in no time. Gimme mode is also available and while it says it's only available for a short time, it's been around for quite a long time and there's a chance it'll never go away. You still get the prizes for winning tournaments, so if you want to use it, be my guest. You need the coins to access the shop, which sells parts, balls and then some. New balls will be available as you rank up. Lastly, you may win new club sets after completing a tour. These sets can help you with your leveling up. The sets include Big Air clubs, which increases your distance, Pin Hole club, which increases control, Turbo Spin club, which increases your Backspin and Infinity Club, which increases both power and control but will suffer from impact. You can use the Beginner's ball to compensate for impact if you want though. Also, you can get higher grades of each club set by just winning tours that trigger randomly. They start at grade 5 and can go all the way to grade 1. Always try to play with Normal Cups. Why? Because there are secret VS characters that only unlock by doing official tours. Not to mention trophies also. Eagle City's OUT course is fairly easy and quite short mostly. As you're golfing, try to improve the power of each Wood the best you can as well as other clubs also. Control is equally important. Making 15 ft or higher putts from the green will improve the Back Door ability for your putter. Also, try to score a chip-in or two using your AW or approach wedge. When you're putting, for every .1 that appears on the top of the screen, hit the ball an extra foot for both downhill and uphill as a general rule. Longer putts that also have a difficult read on the green become very tricky, so try your best. You can press square to get more distance on the putter if needed and it won't count as a power shot. If you win the tournament, you'll receive the EXP to meet your first VS character who will appear at the stage. Also, Hikari will give you a brief rundown on how Match Play format tours work once you get back to the Home Area. Your first challenge tourney opponent is a member of the EG Girls named Tomomi. Along with Hikari, they will talk about how hitting at 100% (really 95% or higher) will extend the distance of your clubs. Defeating Tomomi successfully will get you her whole wardrobe as well as her voice over and be selectable to make a new character with. The same will be true for everyone else you encounter. Some other characters will get you new shot types also. Let Tomomi win the match though, so you can get the Cutscene (Loss) BGM at the Library. Then defeat her. This is also unrelated, but you'll start seeing challenge tourney golfers you may have added to the gallery if you beat them by 3 shots or more out on the course. If you talk to them, you'll get the option to copy them. It's best to wait until you have defeated the VS characters first as aside from parts, voice overs and body parts cost lots of coins, something you currently lack but you'll get plenty throughout the game. Lastly, each time you defeat a VS opponent, a random club will get a level up for each stat. This works for secret VS characters also. Anyhoo, after Tomomi, win another challenge tourney and you'll be able to face Gabriel, one of the youngest players you'll encounter who loves soccer. Along with Specs, they'll talk about backspin and that Gabriel will use a Beginner's Ball for the match. Successfully defeat him to get the Body: Male 3 and his parts, voice over and the Type 8 swing. Win another challenge tourney and you'll meet your first boss character, a member of Team Euro named Cindy. Along with Hikari and Specs, they'll talk about Control and Power Mode. Then you'll be forced to do a match with Auto Impact rules. This is the only time it happens, so just get it over with. Once you defeat her, you'll get her voice over and parts as well as the Type 4 swing. You'll also unlock the triangle and circle shots. Pressing triangle at the moment of impact will slightly extend the distance of the shot while pressing circle will slightly decrease it. This is very helpful from here on out. You'll also unlock Eagle City's IN course, which is only a bit harder than the OUT course. You've made it to Rank 2! Rank 2 After Hikari welcomes you to Rank 2, you have a Power Shot and a Caddy to find. Fortunately, they're both nearby. Just to the left of your character is the Power Mode power-up on the ground. When the X appears, pick it up and you'll gain a Power Shot. To the right of where your character appears is your new caddy named Junichi. Talk to him and you'll be able to select him from the caddy list. To access him and other caddies, open the menu with the Options button, go to Customization and Caddy. Press the X button to select him. You can also press triangle to hear his voice if you choose. You can walk around the Home Area to talk to new people if you want. Finally, head to the open course of Eagle City's IN course to gather up the coins, gems and more as you'll need em. Also, if you go back to a Rank 1 tour, you'll also see that you are now able to shuffle the participants in exchange for coins. The rate for the coins is the rank number times 10, so 1 times 10 is 10, 2 times 20 is 20 and so on. Every 30 golfers you add to the gallery will power up a random club by one level for all stats, so try to add as many as you can! The same is true for the other ranks after clearing the specified rank as well. The tours in Rank 2 are not much different from Rank 1 and the golf levels for the golfers in this rank vary from 6-8. 18 hole tours can appear from here on out and doing an 18 hole tour and winning it will access your first Rank 2 opponent, who is another member of the EG Girls named Ryoko. Along with Hikari, they'll talk about the triangle and circle shots. This is also the first match where it will be a Stroke Format match. It's the same as a regular challenge tourney, only it's a tourney for two. This is also a great time to get more official birdies. After defeating Ryoko, you'll get her voice over and parts as well as the Type 6 swing. Another 18 hole tourney or two 9 hole tourneys and you'll meet Takamori. Along with Specs, they will talk about putting and the Back Door skill. This will also be your first Points Match also. If the scores are tied, the higher point total will win the point. If it's a tie, it will be a draw. The opening tee shot and getting close to the pin are very important. The higher distance you drive from your tee shot, the more points you get but it must stop on the fairway. If it stops in a bunker, goes in the water or lands out of bounds, you'll lose points. Defeating Takamori will get his parts, his voice over and the Body: Male 4. Another 18 hole tourney or two 9 hole tourneys after that and you'll meet the next boss, another Team Euro member named Boris. Defeating him successfully will allow you to operate a cart, and carts are much more handy than running around. Anyhoo, along with Hikari, they'll talk about how you can improve your Back Door ability using irons. The match with Boris is also a Points Match, but you'll be hitting on the Long Tees for this match. Win the match and you'll get his parts. You'll also unlock Alpina Forest's OUT & IN course as well as the ability to do Homing Shots. Do a Super Backspin shot and if it hits the pin, it will home back to the cup and hopefully it gets in the hole. You'll also be allowed to use carts from this point forward. You've made it to Rank 3! If you buy the Chocobo DLC, you'll have a much easier time around open courses and it's the best cart to use. It may be 4.99, but it is definately worth the money. Absolutely nothing else compares. Rank 3 Welcome to Rank 3! After Hikari congratulates you, you can head to each Alpina Forest open course to get the coins and stuff there. Once you're done, head back. Let's focus on finding your next Power Mode power-up and caddy. Turn around and you'll see the caddy on the road. Talk to her and Elsa will be available to select as a caddy. Now head toward the beach and make a left at the small fork and you should see the power up just close by. Now go ahead and talk to the professor again and you'll be able to take the intermediate quiz. It's tougher than the basic quiz, so don't be surprised if you get one wrong. When you manage to get all ten correct, you'll get the Replay Camera as the reward. He will also tell you that you have to get to Rank 6 to take the advanced quiz, which is also the last. By now, you may have gotten enough official birdies to unlock your first secret VS character. You may be overmatched for this one as he easily performs better than the characters of this rank, but if you are confident enough in your golf skills, feel free to challenge him. More on him and other Secret VS characters later. The challenge tourney opponents of Rank 3 are, as you guessed it, a little stronger than Rank 2. Their golf levels range from 7-10 and will naturally perform better on Mega Cups than Normal Cups for whatever reason. Be prepared for a fight with Tornado Cups also. Same deal as Rank 2, with the addition of the Alpina Forest tours. Win an 18 hole tourney or two 9 hole tourneys and you'll unlock the first VS character for this rank who will introduce herself as Mayu. Along with Specs, they'll talk about homing shots. The match itself is another Points Match and you'll get the rare occasion of having light wind for this one. Defeat her to get her parts, her voice over and the Body: Female 4 as well. Two more 9H tourneys or an 18H tourney and you'll face Pancho. Along with Hikari, they'll talk about sidespin and how you can use it to go around trees and other obstacles. This match will be your second Stroke Format match. Also another opportunity to get more official birdies as well as eagles if you can. Defeat Pancho successfully and you'll get his parts along with his voice over. Another two more 9H tourneys or an 18H tourney and you'll face the boss for this rank, which is another EG Girl member named Lena. Along with Hikari, they'll talk about the different types of balls outside of Standard and Beginner balls. If you haven't battled the first secret VS character yet, this will be your first match with Teeny Cups. Successfully defeat Lena to get her outfit and voice over. You'll also unlock the Kanaloa Beach course as well as the Rising Shot. To do a Rising Shot, do a Super Topspin shot and if it hits the pin, the ball will rise up and then come down right in the hole. It works over 95% of the time, so use it well. You've completed rank 3! Rank 4 After Hikari congratulates you once again, it's time to find the next Power Mode power-up. Head for the cart behind you and it will be in the front of it. The caddy is on the roadway by the water, so use your cart to get to him and it will be Suzuki himself who will join the ranks as a caddy. You can now head for both Kanaloa Beach open courses to get the coins and stuff. Once you're done, return and start doing the next set of tourneys to unlock the next VS opponent. Kanaloa Beach itself is surrounded by the ocean, so take care not to go off course here as the winds are occasionally strong. Also, if you have the Nam Rong Bay DLC, the tours for this course will start appearing in this rank as well. This time, it will take three 9H tourneys or an 18 and a 9H tourney to unlock the VS opponents of this rank, so once done, you'll encounter the first one who will introduce herself as Honghua from China, who is a member of Team Sniper. Along with Suzuki, they'll talk about Rising Shots. This is also your third Stroke Format match. Once you beat her, you'll get her parts and voice over. You may have enough official birdies to encounter the second secret VS character, Shuri, who used to lead the EG Girls. Again, you may be overmatched as her golf level is 10, and she'll definately put up a big fight. But if you're confident enough in your own skills, go ahead and challenge her. More on that later. Keep winning the tourneys and you'll come across the fisherman Kato. Beating him will allow you to fish, so do your best. Avoid the rough on this match as hitting into it will incur a penalty to your score. Unlike hitting it out of bounds, you'll still resume play from the rough. Your opponent will have to deal with the rule as well, so don't fret over it too much. Once you beat him, you'll get his parts, voice over, the Type 7 swing and unlock fishing! Follow the arrow to your first fishing spot and choose the best rod and bait. This is what you've been saving your coins for! Choose a spot to fish and patiently wait for a bite. When it sinks underwater, your caddy will alert you and this is the time to begin reeling it it. The fish should pose no threat whatsoever, so keep going in this fashion and your tension guage will rise. You'll then be able to fish on the open courses, but more on that later. If you've been getting official eagles, you may have enough to meet the secret VS character, Alice, who is a little girl in a rather unique outfit. She's much harder than Kato, and you may be overmatched, but if you're courageous enough, go ahead and challenge her. Beating her will unlock her parts, voice over and the Body: Female 3. More tourney wins and you'll come across the boss for this rank, Laura from the Netherlands. She's a member of Team Thwack that obsesses with power over anything else. Laura will talk about spin and will use a Turbo Spin club for the match. She'll also talk about if you've gone online at all. You'll get to have fun with another Teeny Cup match on Long Tees for this match. Once you win, you'll get her parts, voice over and the Body: Female 5. You'll also unlock the Vortex Valley course as well as the Spiral Shot. To get a Spiral Shot, do a Super Sidespin and if it hits the pin, the ball will spiral down to the cup for a chip-in. This is hard to do, but with practice, you'll get the rhythm down. Anyhoo, you've cleared Rank 4! Rank 5 Welcome to Rank 5! Time to find the next power-up and caddy. To find the power-up, head towards the fishing spot past the sign while staying on the roadway. The power-up will be close by the huge rock pile for you to pick up. From there, head towards the bar and you'll see the next caddy to the left of it who will introduce herself as Lulu after you talk to her. She will be your next caddy. Vortex Valley is quite the course, surrounded by cliffs and rocks. Take care on this course! Also, head for the open courses to get the coins and stuff. You can also talk to the people at the Home Area that have newly appeared. Rank 4 challenge tourneys can also now be shuffled. The levels of the challenge tourney golfers will range from 8-12. You may also see Teeny Cups from this point forward also. These are also official tourneys and are not much harder than Normal Cups, but pick the one you want to do. It's a whopping 2000 EXP per VS character this time, but it's really not any different from Rank 4. Three 9H tourneys or an 18H and a 9H will be enough. Your first VS character in this rank will be Toraji, the, ahem, PUNK golfer. Along with Specs, they'll talk about Spiral Shots. This is the only match where you won't be allowed to use woods, so make sure your irons are well-leveled before taking him on. It's also a Points Match. Beating him will net you his parts, voice over and the Type 9 swing. Accumulate enough EXP to unlock the next VS character, a South Korean girl named Nicole. She trained under the mysterious Eve...just who is Eve? You'll find out later. Anyway, she'll be using a Sand Viper ball for the match and it will also be another Stroke Format match. After you defeat her, you'll get her parts and voice over. Another 2000 EXP and you'll face the boss, the captain of Team Euro named Paul. He'll use an Infinity club for the match. Not only is it another Points Match, the Teeny Cups will be in use for this match also. After you beat him, you'll get his parts, voice over and the Type 5 swing. You'll also unlock the dreaded Championship Tees and the Ultra Spin shot as well. To perform an Ultra Spin successfully, and this works with any super spin shot, at the moment of impact, press the directional button just before the triangle, circle or X button. Doing this will provide stronger spin on the ball. It will make even woods perform a super backspin shot. It will take some practice, but you'll eventually nail the timing. Also, instead of a blue dot on the ball on the lower right hand of the screen, there will be a purple dot. Congrats on clearing Rank 5! Rank 6 Welcome to Rank 6! It's getting harder and harder now. Now that you're in this rank, you can talk to the professor to do the advanced quiz. Getting all 10 correct will get you the manual camera as the reward. You'll also be able to review any quiz whenever you want. Let's find the last caddy and power-up. Head towards the fishing spot again but this time, head for the saltwater spot and you'll spot the last caddy next to the second tree. Talk to him and he'll introduce himself as Genzo and be your caddy. Now head for the bar and stay on the roadway. Make a right and go just past the tree and you should see the power-up. Congrats! You found all the power-ups! Now let's start getting the last of the VS characters to appear, shall we? And before I forget, if you bought the Pine Hills DLC, tours for that course will start appearing here also. It's tougher than Vortex Valley, so stay sharp. Finally, you may get a rare Triple Percision ball from completing a challenge tournament, so keep an eye out. These balls can't be bought in the shop, so use them wisely. 3150 EXP needed to encounter a VS character this time. Four 9H tourneys or two 18H tourneys will be enough to make one appear. Once you have the EXP, you'll face the second member of Team Thwack, Jason. He's all about power and will use a Big Air club. Along with Hikari, he'll also talk about Ultra Spin. The match features a penalty for not hitting within 15 seconds, so try not to take too long. Championship Tees will be in use for this Rank overall in these matches as well. Defeat him and you'll get his parts, voice over and the Body: Male 5. If you've had at least 150 official birdies, after getting another official birdies, Souha will appear as the fourth secret VS character. He's the captain of Team Thwack and won't go down easily. Get enough EXP again and you'll face the vice-captain of Team Sniper, Kamilla. She'll be using a Super Low Ball for the match. Using one will have you take shots with very low trajectory. Another Championship Tees match, you'll get a penalty for using Power Mode in this match, so try to refrain from doing so. Defeating her successfully will net you her parts and voice over. One final time for EXP gains and you'll come face to face with the final boss of Rank 6, a member from Team Almighty named Adam. This will also be your first match against a CUSTOM CLUBS user. Along with Championship Tees, there will be a penalty for hitting into the rough OR the bunker, so stay sharp. Adam isn't too difficult if you know the course well. When you defeat him, you'll get his parts and voice over and be able to use Custom Clubs yourself. You'll also unlock the Imperial Garden course as well. After that, the ending movie will roll after the event. Congrats on making it to the Special Rank!!! Rank 7 aka Special Rank Welcome to the Special Rank! There's no more EXP to earn for starters, so that's taken care of. Rank 7 will feature the last 200 challenge tourney golfers that are all waiting for you to beat them. Or they'll beat you. No joke, these are the toughest of the bunch. Their golf levels range from 9-15. You can also shuffle the golfers from not only Rank 6 but Rank 7 as well. If you have the Akigase Keikoku DLC course, tours for that course will appear in this rank as well. If you add every single challenge tourney golfer from all ranks, not only do you get a trophy, but you'll get the fastest cart in the game as a nice prize. All the VS characters you've beaten in the previous ranks make a return in the Special Rank in new outfits and their golf levels will improve to 13. Adam will be level 14 though. Here's the thing though: Only one will appear per day and the opponent will be completely random. If you close the application and reopen the game, you can likely get a different opponent. The rules will be random each time and any DLC courses you have can also be the selection for the course. Beating Kato will get you the expensive bait, which is necessary for getting the rare fish at the open courses and if you beat Boris, you'll get a faster cart than the standard cart. Now that you have Custom Clubs, if you've been getting gems, it's time to use them. Head for the large van close to the Online gates and talk to the guy there. At the cost of 10 gems, you'll be able to upgrade your custom clubs all the way up to 10 upgrades. After the 10th upgrade is done, head for the beach to find his brother and you'll be able to do one additional upgrade. Always go for Power. Nothing else matters too much. You'll want a custom club of at least 17 power, so you'll be able to go for albatrosses and condors on the open courses. Specifically, Alpina Forest's 12th hole. If the cup is Normal or Teeny and it's Regular Tees, go for it. If not, you can still try through a tournament or a solo stroke match, but it's not recommended and you'll be wasting way too much time to get lucky, so it's better to wait for the next day to hopefully luck out. Another thing you can do at the custom club shop is buy up to two extra sets of custom clubs for 50 gems each. If you want em, feel free to get em. Lastly, you can change the SFX for whenever you take a shot using a wood for 5 gems and you get five different options. Press triangle to play the sound effects and pick your favorite. If you also don't like how the custom clubs came out, you can recycle them and they'll return to how they first were for no charge and you can try again when you have the gems. Also new to this rank are One-Shot Missions. During a 9 or 18 hole round, the words "One-Shot Mission Available" may appear as you begin a turn. Complete them to earn gems. Look in the One-Shot Missions section of the FAQ for a full listing of them. Have fun in the Special Rank however you choose! Online If you have an internet connection, you can go to the open courses located at the gates. Or you can open up the Options and select it from there as well. Not only that, but you can also do a Turf War with other people. However, because Turf War requires a Playstation Plus membership and the fact that not many people do it at all, it's very hard to get a match in. There is a BGM or two to unlock in there, so if you have friends, this can speed up quite a bit. When on the open course, you'll see challenge tourney golfers spread throughout on the course, including ones that you've never seen before. You won't be able to copy them even if you've added them to the gallery already. Also on the course are three fishing spots but they won't show up on the map if you haven't unlocked them yet. More on that later. Next, each course has a hole where you can find coins, gems, Turf War medal tokens, balls, and even a present that contains a random face part. Pick up as many as you can. There is no shame if you miss one or two. When you do find everything, the "Found" at the top of the screen will change to "All", indicating you found everything for that course. If you do a 9 Hole Round, you can submit your score to the daily rankings, and if you're on the bonus course, you'll get prizes the next day depending on how you did in the Daily Rivals and overall as well. If you make a birdie or better on a given hole, you'll get extra coins. 30 on a non-bonus course, 100 on the bonus course and you may also trigger the Extra Bonus, which will net you 1000 coins. If you happen to get disconnected at any time, you'll be taken back to the Home Area. Next thing is the Game Room. If you have friends, you can play with each other in that mode. However, you need a Playstation Plus membership in order to do so. You can create a room, search for a room, search for a friend's room or automatically choose a room. Finally, an International Tournament will be held every once in a while. When this happens, you'll receive a special notification from Suzuki about the rules and when it happens. Qualifiers take place on a specific course and after that's done, you'll check your rank and get a participation prize. If you qualify for the finals, that's great! Practice on the course before doing the real deal. Good luck! Oh, and a different Home Area music theme will play during the tournament as well. Have fun online! Secret VS Characters Aside from normal VS characters, there are secret VS characters that only appear after meeting certain conditions. There will be a full briefing on all the characters and how to unlock each one as well. If you unlock multiple characters, they'll appear at your home area after you beat the one there already first. 1. Thomas How to unlock: Get 50 official Birdies Timing: Anytime You should be able to unlock him by the time you reach Rank 3. If you are able to beat him, you'll be able to swim in ponds and lakes! He's no walk in the park though. You'll get Teeny Cups for the match and have the penalty for taking longer than 15 seconds to hit the ball also. Beating him will unlock his parts and voice over. 2. Shuri How to unlock: Get 100 official Birdies Timing: After defeating Lena in Rank 3 This young lady is the former captain of the EG Girls. At level 10, she is much tougher than any of the other members. Don't use Power Mode during this match, or you'll get a penalty. If you manage to defeat her, you'll get her parts and voice over. 3. Alice How to unlock: Get 20 official Eagles Timing: Anytime This young kid wears quite the unique dress, and can really put Gabriel to shame with her golfing ability. Tornado Cups are in use for this one and there is a penalty for hitting a tree. Hitting the leaves of the tree will not count it as a penalty. Prepare for a difficult battle, but if you beat her, you'll get her parts, voice over and the Body: Female 3. 4. Souha How to unlock: Get 150 official Birdies Timing: After defeating Jason in Rank 6 If you have more than 150 official Birdies by the time you get to Jason and defeat him, you'll have to get one more birdie to unlock Souha. He's the captain of Team Thwack and will use a Pin Hole club. Beating him successfully will get you his parts and voice over. 5. Suzuki How to unlock: Play 80 challenge tourneys Timing: Special Rank Yes, it's Suzuki this time and he'll be using a custom club for the match. Championship Tees, Teeny Cups and this will likely be your first match with strong winds as well, so stay sharp. He'll be using a custom club as well, so stay sharp. Beating him successfully will get you his parts, voice over, the Male: Body 6 and the Type 10 swing. 6. Hikari How to unlock: Play 120 challenge tourneys Timing: Special Rank Inspired by the chairman, Hikari plucked up the courage to play you herself! Not only do you get Championship Tees and Teeny Cups, you can get a penalty for hitting into a rough, hitting into a bunker OR using a Power Shot. Oh my! She's using a custom club with max Back Door compatibility also. Beating Hikari successfully will net you her parts and voice over. 7. Ivan How to unlock: Get 50 official Eagles Timing: Special Rank The captain of Team Sniper has appeared to you! And this is probably the toughest match in the game. Why? Because using Backspin will incur a penalty! And you're playing on Imperial Garden for this match! If you manage to beat him, you'll get his parts and voice over. 8. Hassan How to unlock: Get 5 official Albatrosses Timing: Special Rank I hate this guy. Sure, he's a millionaire, but he doesn't even put in the work to level up his clubs. He's got a custom club though and a rare Triple Percision ball, so expect a tough match. Avoid the bunkers, as they'll add a penalty to your score if you land in one. Defeating Hassan successfully will get you his parts and voice over. 9. Eve How to unlock: Get an official Condor Timing: Special Rank Remember Nicole when she talked about Eve? Well here's your answer. A 17 year old girl who happens to be the captain of Team Almighty. She's got a custom club that can go over 330 yards, but since you used a custom club to get a condor that goes much further than hers, this is pretty much a moot point. Anyhoo, this is your final Stroke Format match using Championship Tees on Imperial Garden. A true test of your ability if nothing else. Defeating her will get you her parts and voice over. 10. Melissa How to unlock: Get 3 official Condors Timing: Special Rank The former captain of Team Almighty has appeared to defeat you. She used to be the sole member of that team before letting Eve and Adam in. Anyway, the match will once again use Championship Tees on Imperial Garden. Not only that, there will be penalties for landing in the rough or the bunker. That's not all. Teeny Cups will be in use and there are strong winds as well. As you'd expect, Melissa is using a custom club as well. Defeating her successfully will nail you her parts and voice over. Fishing Fishing is a mini game that unlocks after defeating Kato in Rank 4. To rent a rod and bait, you need coins. If you have plenty of coins, go with the best rod and bait you can get. It's kinda sad that all those fish swimming in the water won't get interested in your bait. Instead, a fish that appears out of nowhere is the one taking the bait. To unlock other fishing spots both at the Home Area and the open courses, you need to raise your fishing level high enough to do so. Here is a briefing of all the fishing spots, the level you need to unlock the spot and the fish that can be caught at that spot. Fish in question marks indicates a rare fish, which means that you can only get these fish by defeating Kato again in the Special Rank so you can unlock the deluxe bait, which is required to get these fish. The number in parenthesis is the fish's rarity number. Also, the rare fish that you fish up have a chance to drop a rare Triple Percision ball, and will come in handy for leveling up your clubs. Other items you can get include other balls, coins, Turf War medal tokens and also gems. The higher the rarity for the fish, the higher coins you can get. The values are 30, 50, 100, 200, 300, 500 and 1000 coins. Only the rare fish can drop the 1000 coins though. Home Fishing Spot (Freshwater) Level to unlock: Unlocked immediately Fish: Crayfish (1), Goldfish (1), Loach (2) and Rice Fish (0) Rare Fish: Koi Carp (Red/White) (6) Your first spot. Practice fishing here to raise your tension guage. The fish pose no threat at all. The rare fish is the only big fish here. Home Fishing Spot (Saltwater) Level to unlock: 8 Fish: Blue-Green Damselfish (5), Horse Mackerel (2), Ray (4) and South American Pilchard (1) Rare Fish: Clown Fish (8) and Spiny Lobster (8) The two rare fish will pose a challenge but not too strongly. Rays are the only large fish of the bunch despite them not resembling most fish. Some of these fish will struggle a little more than the other spot, but they'll still be no problem. Eagle City (OUT) - Fishing Spot 1 (located next to the 2nd tee) Level to unlock: Unlocked immediately Fish: Crayfish (1), Goldfish (1), Loach (2) and Rice Fish (0) Rare Fish: Koi Carp (Red/White) (6) Same fish as the Home Area's. The rare fish in this spot is the only large fish. It's also the best spot to catch the rare fish on this course. Alpina Forest (OUT) - Fishing Spot 2 (located by the 5th tee) Level to unlock: 5 Fish: Black Bass (3), Freshwater Crab (2), Goldfish (1) and Rainbow Trout (3) Rare Fish: Sakhalin Taimen (8) Nothing special here. Alpina Forest (OUT) - Fishing Spot 3 (located by the 3rd tee) Level to unlock: 10 Fish: Black Bass (3), Eel (5), Goldfish (1) and Sweetfish (4) Rare Fish: Sakhalin Taimen (8) The Eel can put up a fight, but it's otherwise nothing special. The Eel along with the rare fish are the large fish here. Alpina Forest (IN) - Fishing Spot 1 (located by the 16th tee) Level to unlock: Unlocked immediately Fish: Crucian Carp (2), Freshwater Crab (2), Goldfish (1) & Rainbow Trout (3) Rare Fish: Koi Carp (Gold) (6) Pretty much the same deal as the (OUT) spot. The rare fish is nothing special in terms of strength. Alpina Forest (IN) - Fishing Spot 2 (located by the 17th tee) Level to unlock: 5 Fish: Black Bass (3), Freshwater Crab (2), Goldfish (1) and Rainbow Trout (3) Rare Fish: Koi Carp (Gold) (6) Nothing new here. The Swordfish will put up a big fight as it's one of the largest fish in the game. It will easily be as big as 100 in. And once again, the Ray is the other large fish. Why this spot is further than the third spot, I have no idea though. Kanaloa Beach (OUT) - Fishing Spot 3 (located by the 4th tee) Level to unlock: 12 Fish: Flounder (3), Palette Surgeonfish (6), South American Pilchard (1) and Yellowtail (5) Rare Fish: Nautilus (6) and Ocean Sunfish (9) No idea how the Nautilus became a rare fish but the Ocean Sunfish will put up a fight also. Vortex Valley (OUT) - Fishing Spot 2 (located by the 4th tee) Level to unlock: 8 Fish: Black Bass (3), Common Goldfish (5), Piranha (5) and Yaritanago (5) Rare Fish: Sturgeon (9) The Sturgeon is a pretty tough customer also. Shouldn't be too bad though. It's the only large fish along with the rarely-occured Black Bass. Vortex Valley (OUT) - Fishing Spot 3 (located by the 6th tee) Level to unlock: 12 Fish: Black Bass (3), Common Goldfish (5), Neon Tetra (6) and Yaritanago (5) Rare Fish: Alligator Gar (10) The fish here are nothing special but the Alligator Gar will definately put up a strong fight. The gar is the only large fish here, for the most part. Vortex Valley (IN) - Fishing Spot 1 (located by the 12th tee) Level to unlock: 5 Fish: Black Bass (3), Catfish (5), Common Goldfish (5) and Piranha (5) Rare Fish: Arowana (9) Same deal as the (OUT) spot. It's easier to get to this spot than the (OUT) one though. Imperial Garden (OUT) - Fishing Spot 1 (located by the 5th tee) Level to unlock: 10 Fish: Carp (4), Eel (5), Neon Tetra (6) and Salmon (5) Rare Fish: Angelfish (7) Nothing special here although the rare fish will put up a decent fight. Both the 5 star fish are the big fish. Imperial Garden (OUT) - Fishing Spot 2 (located by the 2nd tee) Level to unlock: 12 Fish: Filefish (2), Octopus (3), Pacific Saury (4) and Sea Bass (6) Rare Fish: Giant Isopod (8) and Longtooth Grouper (9) The Sea Bass when caught will be a Suzuki, so keep that in mind here. That fish and the Longtooth Grouper are the two big fish here. Imperial Garden (OUT) - Fishing Spot 3 (located by the 3rd tee) Level to unlock: 15 Fish: Cod (5), Filefish (2), Scissortail Sergeant (7), Skipjack Tuna and Tuna (7) Rare Fish: Giant Isopod (8) and Shark (9) The best spot to farm for coins since most of the fish have a 7 star rarity or above. The sharks are very strong fighters, so take care here. The Cod, Shark, Skipjack Tuna, and Tuna are all big fish here. Imperial Garden (IN) - Fishing Spot 1 (located by the 10th tee) Level to unlock: 10 Fish: Carp (4), Eel (5), Neon Tetra (6) and Salmon (5) Rare Fish: Angelfish (Striped) (8) Same deal as the (OUT) spot, but the rare fish will put up a better fight than the one at the (OUT) spot. Take care with this fish. The Coelacanth, Moray Eel and Sea Bass are all large fish here. Imperial Garden (IN) - Fishing Spot 3 (located by the 17th tee Level to unlock: 15 Fish: Filefish (2), Greater Amberjack (5), Red Bream (6), Sea Bream (6) and Tuna (7) Rare Fish: Giant Isopod (8) and Giant Oarfish (10) The Giant Oarfish is another very strong fighter, so take care here. The rest of the fish should pose little trouble though. This spot has a tendency to lag, so experiment to find a spot so it won't lag. After fishing up all the fish at the locations including rare fish, you'll get a nice trophy for your hard work. But wait! Having the DLC courses present new fish exclusive to that course, and the rare fish will give you quite the headache trying to catch, so here's a listing of those fish too: Green C.C. (OUT) - Fishing Spot 1 (located by the 1st tee) Level to unlock: Unlocked immediately Fish: Bighead Carp (5), Kamatsuka (2), Popeyed Goldfish (3), Rainbow Trout (3) and Wakasagi (1) Rare Fish: Koi Carp (Red/White) (6) The Bighead Carp will put up a fight if you try to catch this fish as soon as you have fishing unlocked. Only difference is the rare fish. Nam Rong Bay C.C. (OUT) - Fishing Spot 1 (located by the 1st tee) Level to unlock: 5
Fish: Goatfish (3), Mangrove Crab (4), Pomfret (5) and Yellowtail (5)
Rare Fish: Snow Crab (7)

Level to unlock: 8
Fish: Goatfish (3), Mahi-Mahi (7), Mangrove Crab (4) and Sea Bass (6)
Rare Fish: Nautilus (6)
The Mahi-Mahi will put up a fairly big fight, so stay on your toes. That, and
the Sea Bass are the two large fish here.
Nam Rong Bay C.C. (OUT) - Fishing Spot 3 (located close to the 8th tee)
Level to unlock: 10
Fish: Barramundi (8), Goatfish (3), Skipjack Tuna (7) and Tuna (7)
Rare Fish: Clown Fish (8)
How the Barramundi is an available fish before the rare fish, I will never
understand. This fish will put up one of the strongest fights in the game,
without a doubt. Don't attempt to fish it until your fish level is at max
level. The other fish are nothing special though, even the rare fish. The
Barramundi, Skipjack Tuna, and Tuna are all large fish.
Nam Rong Bay C.C. (IN) - Fishing Spot 1 (located just past the 10th tee)
Level to unlock: 5
Fish: Goatfish (3), Mangrove Crab (4), Palette Surgeonfish (6) and Pomfret (5)

Level to unlock: 12
Fish: Archerfish (6), Black Crappie (3), Muskellunge (8) and Oscar (5)
Rare Fish: Alligator Gar (10)
Once again, I have no idea how Muskellunges are catchable before unlocking the
rare fish, but it is here. It's on the same wavelength as the Barramundi and
should not be attempted to catch before you max your tension guage. Both the
Alligator Gar and the Muskellunge are the big fish and this makes it the best
spot to fish for Triple Percision balls. To ensure you get nothing but the big
fish, pull back on the reel as the fish appears if it's not a big fish.
Pine Hills G.C. (IN) - Fishing Spot 1 (located by the 15th tee)
Level to unlock: 8
Fish: Bagrid Catfish (4), Black Crappie (3), Neon Tetra (6) & Spotted Gar (4)

Level to unlock: 12
Fish: Black Crappie (3), Muskellunge (8), Snakehead (6) and White Bass (6)

there can be big Snakeheads as well.
Akigase Keikoku C.C. (OUT) - Fishing Spot 1 (located by the 9th hole green)
Level to unlock: 10
Fish: Big-Scaled Redfin (5), Carp (4), Char (4) and Popeyed Goldfish (3)

Level to unlock: 15
Fish: Black Bass (3), Char (4), Giant Mottled Eel (8) and
Oriental River Prawn (5)
Rare Fish: Angelfish (7)
The Giant Mottled Eel is, as you'd expect, on the same wavelength as the
Barramundi and Muskellunge. It's also the only large fish here. Also, the
Oriental River Prawn will put up a fight as well.
Akigase Keikoku C.C. (IN) - Fishing Spot 1 (located by the 10th tee)
Level to unlock: 10
Fish: Big-Scaled Redfin (5), Carp (4), Char (4) and Loach (2)

Rare Fish: Sakhalin Taimen (8)
If you've caught the Aucha Perch at the (OUT) course, there's nothing new
here.
Akigase Keikoku C.C. (IN) - Fishing Spot 3 (located by the 15th tee)
Level to unlock: 15
Fish: Black Bass (3), Char (4), Kunimasu (7) and Oriental River Prawn (5)
Rare Fish: Angelfish (Striped)
Meet the strongest 7 star fish that is also on the same wavelength as the
Giant Mottled Eel. Yep, it's 7 stars and not 8. The other fish are nothing
special.
One-Shot Missions
1. More Lift
Condition: Your position must be higher than the pin location and it's only
done from the tee shot.
Difficulty: Fairly easy
Depending on your club set, all you have to do is go the required distance in
the challenge and land it on the fairway for a couple gems.
2. Strong Winds
Condition: Tee shot
Difficulty: Medium to hard
Depending on the hole, you'll have a challenge landing the ball on the fairway
with strong winds over 6 MPH. Once done though, you'll get 2 gems.
3. Super Backspin
Condition: Ball must be in fairway and be more than 125 yards away from the
pin on your 2nd shot. Also triggers on a par 3.
Difficulty: Medium
Also depending on the hole, you simply need to do a super backspin shot by
pressing up during power and down on impact. Go the required distance shown
and you'll get 4 gems. Even if you get the ball in the hole, it will still
count it.
4. Backspin
Condition: Bunker and must be the approach shot. Must also be before the
birdie shot/putt.
Difficulty: Medium
This challenge can trigger if you land in the bunker and the ball isn't
buried. Just keep the down button pressed through the entire swing and you
should get within the distance for a couple gems.
5. Super Sidespin
Condition: Same as Super Backspin.
Difficulty: Medium to hard
Same rules apply for backspin only you need to press left or right during
power and the opposite button for impact. So left then right or right then
left. 4 gems when successful.
6. Super Topspin
Condition: Same as Super Backspin and Super Backspin
Difficulty: Medium to hard
Again, the same rules for backspin and sidespin apply only you need to press
down during power and up during impact. Doing a combo of both sidespin and
topspin will still count it if successful. 4 gems await.
7. Topspin
Condition: Must be more than 150 yards away from the pin.
Difficulty: Medium
Similar to the Super Topspin, all you have to do is keep that up directional
button held all the way to the end. This is a rarer mission than the Super
Topspin one. 4 gems when achieved.
8. Spiral Shot
Condition: Chip-in from the fairway or fringe
Difficulty: Hard
Quite hard to get a spiral shot when part of the requirement is to hit the
pin, but it's doable. You'll have to do a super sidespin shot to pull it off.
4 gems is your prize.
9. Homing Shot
Conditon: Chip-in from the fairway or fringe
Difficulty: Medium to hard
To get this challenge complete, you have to hit the pin on a super backspin
shot. Once done, you'll get 5 gems.
10. Rising Shot
Condition: Chip-in from the fairway or fringe
Difficulty: Medium
Easier to get rising shots than spiral shots. You need to do a super topspin
shot and hit the pin for it to go up then down in the cup. 3 gems is your
prize.
11. Hole-In-One
Condition: Tornado Cups
Difficulty: Hard
While easier to get hole-in-ones on Tornado Cups, you still need to figure out
how you're going to get it there for the hole you do it on. 4 gems if
successful.
12. Putting
Condition: More than 20 ft away
Difficulty: Varies
One putting condition simply requires you to sink the putt. Read the green
right and you'll get some gems.
13. Whopper
Condition: More than 15 ft away
Difficulty: Hard
Another putting condition requires you to have a very good Back Door putter
so it can have an effect here. Even if you get a Back Door putt, it will
still count it.
14. Back Door Putt
Condition: More than 10 ft away
Difficulty: Medium to hard
No whoppers here, you have to get a Back Door putt to pass this one for 5
gems or more on longer putts.
15. 15% power
Condition: More than 150 yards away
Difficulty: Easy to hard
This challenge is severely mistranslated. From what I've gathered, you need to
get within 15 feet of the pin using less than either 80% or 70% power. If you
do the deed, you'll get 5-6 gems.
16. Flyer
Condition: Must be in the rough
Difficulty: Hard
As you're often alerted to a possible flyer whenever you land in the rough
and the sand, to hit a flyer, the guage must hit the black spot within the
impact zone or outside of it. Flyers go longer than a 100% power shot, so set
the power below what a full shot would normally go for and hope it lands on
the green. 8 gems if you pull this off.
17. Red Zone
Condition: More than 150 yards away
Difficulty: Hard
This is a pretty rare mission and to pull this off, you must miss the impact
zone completely and hit it in the red zone. If you manage to land on the
green, you'll get a nice 10 gems.
18. Chip-in
Conditon: Not entirely sure, maybe between 30-59 yards away?
Difficulty: Medium to hard
Simply put, you just need to get the ball in the hole for some gems.
19. No Perfect Impact
Condition: More than 150 yards away
Difficulty: Easy to medium
For this challenge, avoid getting perfect impact or hitting the red zone and
you should get close enough to the pin for some gems.
20. No Spin
Condition: More than 150 yards away
Difficulty: Easy to hard
This challenge requires you to avoid doing any kind of spin shot whatsoever.
If you get close enough to the pin, you'll get some gems.
21. Anything Goes
Condition: More than 150 yards away and after the tee shot
Difficulty: Medium to hard
For this challenge, you can do whatever you like to reach the pin within the
ft shown in the challenge. Success will get you 2 gems.
22. Anything Goes 2
Condition: More than 200 yards away on a par 5. Also triggers on a tee shot.
Difficulty: Hard
Some holes are reachable on the tee shot. Simply get within the required ft
and you'll get 3 gems.
23. Bunker
Condition: Approach shot in deep sand
Difficulty: Hard
If your ball lands in the deep sand, this challenge can trigger. Simply get
within the distance shown and you'll get a couple gems.
24. Power Mode and Backspin
Condition: Tailwind (winds blowing at your back)
Difficulty: Hard
Use whatever backspin form you like and enter power mode as well. If it gets
within the distance on the green, 4 gems is yours.
25. Ultra Backspin
Condition: Strong Wind
Difficulty: Hard
This challenge triggered for me on a par 3 at Imperial Garden with about 5
MPH winds. To use Ultra Backspin, you must perform a super backspin shot but
press the down button at the MOMENT of impact. Get within the distance for 5
gems.
If I missed any, please let me know.
Leveling Your Clubs
A recent update for the game allowed the EXP for clubs to rise even higher on
a day's Bonus Course. So, any par 5 on the Bonus Course for Power will be the
way to go provided it's at least 95% power and that it lands on the fairway.
For control, Vortex Valley's 5th hole for woods using either Big Air or Custom
Clubs. For irons, most par 3's work but stay away from Imperial Garden. Those
are long par 3's. For wedges, stay over 60 yards away from the pin then land
it close to the pin. Within 20 ft will make it rise and it has to land on the
green.
For Backspin, same thing for control on all counts. You may want to use Ultra
Spin for woods so it does do the backspin. A Triple Percision ball is also
necessary. The power setting MUST be at least 80% to get the backspin EXP.
And for Backdoor, for irons and wedges, simply chip it in from the fringe or
fairway in the hole to count it. Most easy holes work for this. For woods,
though, it's much trickier. Alpina Forest's 13th hole will serve you well.
Lay it up over 30 yards from the pin then switch to each wood and prepare to
be quick with the button presses. Tornado Cups are recommended for woods. If
Alpina's IN course is the bonus course, you can try for chip-ins with woods
even though I don't recommend it. For putters, simply making a putt over 15
feet will rise it.
Finally, open up the Options for the game and exit out immediately. This lets
the game auto-save so you don't lose your progress.
Closure
Well, that's all the info about this game as I can give ya. Despite the
improvements the game could use, I have had a lot of fun with this entry and I
hope you have fun as well. Peace, doods.
