I was wondering what the map was for, the one they give you if you buy the game new... well, it's to DRAW ON! While the maps aren't to scale, they are pretty close... Key: fR = 750 Fuel Resources FR = 7,500 Fuel Resources bR = 750 Biological Resources BR = 7,500 Biological Resources cM = 750 Common Metals CM = 7,500 Common Metals mM = 400 Minor Metals MM = 4,000 Minor Metals pM = 50 Precious Metals PM = 500 Precious Metals (This FAQ was originally two complete maps, but due to side scrolling issues, I had to break it up in sections, thus the resource section of it isn't really complete. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Animals. They are annoying in this game, unlike MGS3, where all but one animal you could actually see and put to sleep, this game features a large amnount of them that can only be caught with a cage... So take advise from my friend "Just take the highest level cages into every mission, and just put them down anywhere." This helps of the common and uncommon animals (which don't have a set place), which is perfect, as the "rare" animals are actually EASIER to get if you put cages in the right spots. Like that Tsk snake or that sand cat, they are rare, but if you put the cages in the right spots, YOU CAN GET LIKE FIVE OF THEM! The cages use biological resources, and unless you updated the game (para- site suit) or use the one pistol, this is pretty much the only place you need to use it... as you'll be jumping in and out of the battle field, make sure you keep doing the refreshing dispatch missions with the biological materails to keep you a float. Most of these are on memory, and the ones that are rare I will have posted on the maps, and these are taken right from the in game map (unlocks onces you catch the animals, so it's useless forme, but helpful for you guys) Also it helps to go for the Rare animals first, as not only will you likely catch the others, but you will be able to down-grade your cages to only catch more common animals so you don't waste them all the rares. After you catch the rare animal, go for the two Tortoises, they are rarest of the uncommon-common type, and I found MANY animals while going for them. Remember, most of the common and uncommon animals don't have a certain set place they are at... they are everywhere, so it does take some guess work and luck. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Gerbil / Common / Afghan + Africa ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- They can be found in any region, and are considers the "garage" animal. There was someone on GameFAQs.com's message boards that asked where to get one... I thought it was a joke. You can get these in both free roam and in cages, but chances are you'll get PLENTY of unwanted rats along the way. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Long-eared Hedgehog / Uncommon / Afghan ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cage only animal in Afghan. They also don't have a set place to be found so you'll just have to just get lucky with random cages. As with most animals I'll describe here, you should be able to get one by missing a rare or by just putting cages everywhere. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Four-eared Hedgehog / Uncommon / Africa ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Same as above, the rodent counterpart in Afghan, and just like above, I found mine way before catching all the rares. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Afghan Pika / Rare / Afghan ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found one running around during the Quiet fight. They can be either found on the field or by cages. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Common Raven / Common / Afghan + Africa ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are everywhere and get stuck in cages unwantingly a lot, if you really need to get one, just naturally do missions in story mode, an objective later on will be "Find a rough diamond snatched up by a raven," there will be a ton of them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Trumpeter Hornbill / Common / Africa ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've seen this one in the wild, close to the Airport? Don't take my word for it, I didn't mark it down as I caught a few in cages setting up for the other rare animals. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Black Stork / Rare / Afghan + Africa ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is an animal found rarely in both maps, but a buddy of mine assured me that you can find this just under guard post 18, refer to the map above if you want a more pinpoint cage drop area. Griffon Vulture / Common / Afghan ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a mission down the line that has you try to find a film canister, one the this mission's objectives is the get this animal, easy to find in the vally if you are on the top of Spugmay. Your radio contact will say something once you pass in this area, and just look up. They are the ones that jump on you, that you kick off you for just trying to lick you. Easy find. Oriental Ratsnake / Uncommon / Afghan ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- You should be able to find one along with the rare animals, I remember getting one in Spugmay Keep area before I was taking notes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 29. Black Mamba / Uncommon / Africa ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I got some while trying to find both the turtle and the Rock Hyrax, so if you absolutely need this guy, look at the map section of the African Turlte ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 30. Tsuchinoko / Ultra Rare/ Africa ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- This isn't that rare, I got FIVE of them in an area behind the mansion, just refer to the map down below for a better idea of that location. A better idea, look at the area between guard post 2, and guard post 8, it goes hump in road, hump in road, then a very tight loop/bend.
