A: Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain is a spin off game of the Earth Defense Force series, similar to Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon. Unlike Insect Armageddon it was developed by another Japanese company Yuke's, which did most of the recent WWE wrestling games. Q: Why does this game look different from the other EDF games? A: Iron Rain was developed as an Earth Defense Force game designed to appeal to western audiences, hence why it has a more "realistic" look compared to the campy appearance of the main EDF series. Ironically, this marketing strategy backfired spectacularly as Iron Rain was far more popular in Japan than the western markets they were trying to appeal to. Q: How is this game different from the EDF series? A: Let's go over some of the major changes. - Game graphics have been changed to look more "realistic". - Classes have been replaced with PA-Gear, which more or less corresponds with the classes from the previous games. The only missing class would be the air raider since everyone can call in support and vehicles now. - A new "class" the prowl rider makes its appearance. This character uses a wire to quickly maneuver around the battlefield. In addition they can summon a giant insect to assist them in battle for a period of time. - Weapons are no longer dropped in missions. Instead set weapons and items are unlocked in the shop after completing certain missions on different difficulty levels. - The inferno difficulty has been replaced by disaster difficulty, which is even more difficult than inferno in the previous games. You need to unlock it by clearing the game first on any difficulty. - There is now a shop where you can purchase weapons and items that you have unlocked. You will need credits and crystals to purchase them. - Enemies drop gems instead of item boxes. These gems (blue, red, yellow) are used to purchase weapons and items in the shop. There are no first aid kits, but green gems dropped by enemies restore health. - There are no armor boxes. To increase your maximum health you must instead purchase upgrades using credits. The maximum health is 10,000. - You can equip various items to using during a mission. These items range from health restoration items, stationary weapons such as mines and turrets, calls for air strikes, vehicle drops, and various boost effects. Using them will deduct credits from your score (see below). The number of items you can bring to a mission depends on your PA-Gear. - After each mission you are given a score based on various parameters such as how long it look you to clear the mission and how much damage you received. Your score and the difficulty determines how much credits you receive as a reward. - Character appearance and clothing can be customized. - Up to six players can now participate in a mission, up from four in the main series. - In order to revive an incapacitated player you must now use a dedicated revive item. In previous games you could revive a player as many times as you wanted using health. - There is a new multiplayer versus mode where you compete with other players to collect gems. - There is a new practice stage where you can test out your weapons. Sadly you can only test weapons you actually have purchased instead of testing out weapons before buying them. - Some weapons have an active reload feature similar to the Gears of War series. Pressing the square button when the gauge is at a certain point instantly reloads the weapon. - There is a new overdrive move that can be used by pressing L3 and R3 at the same time. When activated your attack power and reload time are significantly increased, your PA-Gear energy becomes unlimited, and you become immune to all status effects. This can only be used one per mission (twice if you have the faux energy core). - There are various status effects that you (or the enemy) can be affected with such as being set on fire, poisoned, frozen, shocked, etc. Q: Does this game have anything to do story wise with the previous games? A: Nope. This game is a stand alone story from the previous games. Q: How is the difficulty compared to previous games? A: The game is notably harder than EDF 5. In EDF 5 you could pretty much cruise through the entire game on easy difficulty. In Iron Rain it's very possible to get killed on easy difficulty, especially early in the game on certain missions where there is a spike in difficulty (*cough* mission 9). Certain enemies can stun lock you into oblivion, and some attacks can immobilize you repeatedly. It's not very fun when it does happen. Also the final boss has an insane amount of health. Q: So is the game good or bad? A: If you're expecting EDF 6 you're probably going to be disappointed. That being said the game for me personally isn't quite as good as EDF 5, but it's definitely better than Insect Armageddon. There are some good stuff I'd like to see carried over to the main EDF series such as the shop and the ability to use items. Q: Do the vehicles still control like crap? A: Yes. I don't know if they did that on purpose to honor the EDF series or if Yuke's were looking at the vehicles in the previous game and thought that was how they were supposed to be. The vehicle aiming is super wonky and all over the place, and the aerial vehicles still control as well as you would expect. Q: Are there physical copies of the game or is it just digital? A: Like EDF 5, Iron Rain is only available digitally in the west. Physical copies are only available in Japan. O-------O |PA-Gear| O-------O ######### #TROOPER# ######### Defense: 12 Mobility: 10 Item Capacity: 16 (120 Points Max) Energy Move: E-Dodge Strengths: 2nd highest defense. Highest item carrying capacity. Weaknesses: Evasion requires careful energy management. The trooper is the default PA-Gear. Like the ranger of previous games, the trooper is the ground soldier of the EDF. They can no longer roll but have the ability to quickly dodge in any direction, although it requires one unit of energy from their PA-Gear to do so. They can dash forward by pressing L3 (no need to hold down), and while they cannot attack while dashing they can reload and/or change weapons while doing so. They have fairly good defense compared to the other PA-Gear, and have the highest item carrying capacity in the game. ############ #JET LIFTER# ############ Defense: 8 Mobility: 17 Item Capacity: 10 (75 Points Max) Energy Move: E-Flight Strengths: Flight and high mobility. Weaknesses: 2nd lowest defense and item carrying capacity. The jet lifter is wing diver of Iron Rain. Unlike the previous series they aren't limited to only women and energy weapons. Pressing L3 causes them to quickly move forward but consumes energy quickly. They no longer have the emergency evasive dodge, but can quickly drop down from flight by pressing the jump button. Jet lifters have very poor defense due to their lack of armor. They also have very low item carrying capacity due to their jet pack. ############### #HEAVY STRIKER# ############### Defense: 17 Mobility: 9 Item Capacity: 8 (60 Points Max) Energy Move: E-Field Strengths: Highest defense with energy shield. Double firepower. Weaknesses: Lowest mobility and item carrying capcity. Double reload time. The heavy striker PA-Gear is unlocked in mission 13 and is the counterpart of the fencer in previous series. Rather than carrying two sets of two different weapons, the heavy striker instead carries twin liked weapons. While this means double the firepower, it also means double the reloading time. The heavy striker has the highest defense in the game. In addition its special e-field ability creates an energy shield in front of it that deflects incoming missile attacks (both physical like acid and energy blasts). It does not, however, have any effect on melee attacks at close range. Pressing L3 causes the heavy striker to boost forward quickly at the cost of energy. Like the fencers before it, the heavy striker has a very low movement speed. In addition, due to the massive amount of armor they carry their item carrying capacity is the lowest in the game. Also due to their armor they are the only PA-Gear that cannot use a quick recovery to get back up from being knocked down. ############# #PROWL RIDER# ############# Defense: 10 Mobility: 15 Item Capacity: 12 (90 Points Max) Energy Move: E-Needle Strengths: High mobility with e-needle. Overdrive calls allied giant insect. Weaknesses: None in particular. The prowl rider is the "new" class of Iron Rain, having no particular counterpart in any of the previous games. It is unlocked after clearing mission 15. The main feature of the PA-Gear is its e-needle ability, which fires a wire at a target surface and then is quickly pulled towards it. Think of the omni-directional mobilty gear from Attack on Titan. When you reach the target point the prowl rider will stick to the surface for a moment, allowing you to repeat the process like a spider. Its other unique ability is its overdrive, which summons an allied giant insect for the duration. The giant insect can be ridden like a vehicle or if dismounted will fight autonomously. Aside from that you can think of the prowl rider as a more mobile trooper. The trade off is a slightly lower defense and reduced item carrying capacity. ####################### #PROTOTYPE PROWL RIDER# ####################### Defense: 6 Mobility: 16 Item Capacity: 13.2 (100 Points Max) Energy Move: E-Needle Strengths: Very fast energy recovery. Weaknesses: Lowest defense in the game. High energy consumption. The prototype prowl rider is unlocked by clearing the game on any difficulty. The main change of the prototype over the standard prowl rider is that the e-needle recharge rate has significantly increased, but its energy consumption has increased as well. This means that the prototype prowl rider can quickly maneuver around but can't travel very far. As a plus this version can carry more items than the standard version. The big trade off is that this PA-Gear has the lowest defense in the game, which means you will be taking big damage if you are hit, especially on the higher difficulty levels. HP Upgrades HP upgrades can be upgraded one level at a time or multiple levels, but when upgrading multiple levels the cost will include the current cost in addition to the costs of all the prior levels being upgraded. You can also reduce your current HP level for a mission if for some reason you want to do so. Compared to the previous games the storm ants are a bit more aggressive this time around. They tend to crawl all over and around each other and nearby corpses making them more difficult to hit due to their erratic movements. Unlike the ants in the previous games, the acid that the ants spit out travel in a direct line and not in an arc, meaning they can hit you from a considerable distance. CRAZY ANT Orange versions of the storm ant. You might think they're like the red ants of previous series, but in fact they behave just like storm ants. Slightly more powerful than storm ants. SILVER ANT Silver ants are, you guessed it, silver versions of the storm ants. Their durability is very high, and their reflective carapace drastically reduces the damage they take from optic (i.e. laser) weapons. WINGED ANT Similar to the bees in previous series, the winged ants are flying storm ants. They can land on the ground whereupon they behave just like regular storm ants. ZOMBIE ANT Undead versions of the storm ant. They have very high durability and their green acid attack will instantly knock you down on contact. Interestingly enough weapons and items that have a recovery effect causes damage to them. STORM ANT SCOUT A storm ant trained for combat by the Kindred Rebellion. They only appear in two missions in the game. Blink and you'll miss them. QUEEN ANT Yep, it's the queen ant. It's slightly smaller than its EDF counterpart, but no less dangerous. Its acid spray doesn't flood all over the place like in previous games, but it can still do major damage when it hits. GIANT CREATURE NEST These giant structures continuously spawn enemies until they are destroyed. On a side note, when destroyed they set nearby enemies on fire. WOLF SPIDER Wolf spiders behave quite differently than the spiders in the previous series. The move by jumping extremely high in the air. Their primary attack is to send out waves of baby wolf spiders that explode on contact. They can also shoot web from a distance that temporarily restricts movement. MYSTIC SPIDER Silver versions of the wolf spider. A bit more durable than their regular brethren. BOMB BEETLE A new enemy to the EDF series. It can shoot hot gas from a distance that will set you on fire. It can also quickly dash forward by ignitng the gas from its rear. When defeated the gas in its body will quickly ignite causing it to explode, causing damage to friend and foe alike. GREEN BOMB BEETLE Green versions of the bomb beetle. Like the silver ants their carapace protects them from laser weaponry, and they have a higher explosive radius when they die. DEATHSTALKER Another new enemy to the EDF series. Deathstalkers are giant scorpions that fire venom from a distance which can poison you. As close range they strike with their front claws. When they put their claws up they can deflect attacks, so when that happens aim for their tail instead. ZOMBIE SCORPION The scorpion counterpart of the zombie ants. They can take quite a beating. Like the zombie ants they take damage from healing weapons and items. SIDEROS They fall from the sky like the deroys from the previous EDF series, and then unfold and attack like a transformer from hell. They are quite durable and dangerous in large numbers. Their primary attack is to fire explosive gems from their arms. When they attack they swing their arms twice, firing three shots per swing. MUTANT SIDEROS Purple versions of the sideros. They move much faster than the regular version. When they attack they leap backwards into the air before firing. BEIZAL Couterpart of Erginus from EDF. This large kaiju monster has all the attacks you know and love, from radioactive breath to trampling you into paste. Note that sometimes beizal will simply plop down if you're nearby, crushing you immediately. Of special note is its EMP attack, which is signaled with a large antenna like organ being raised from its back. When that happens get as far away as you can, because the oncoming EMP blast that follows has a huge blast radius. ATTACK POD Similar to the drones in previous EDF games, but far more annoying. They have the ability to teleport around and their laser attack is extremely difficult to avoid. SUPER ATTACK POD Stronger versions of the attack pod. Aside from that the behavior is the same. SCOURGER Similar to the hectors in previous EDF games, scourgers are large bipedal robots of mass destruction. Some of them start inactive but will quickly get up when hit with an attack. They can destroy buildings simply by walking into them, so your best bet is to try to find cover that can't be destroyed like rubble or a hill. Their primary attack are laser bursts fired from both hands. At close range they attack with an energy sword, while at long range they can fire a powerful energy beam. When destroyed scourgers explode so be sure to keep your distance when they go down. Later in the game scourgers gain the ability to transform into a quadruped mode. In this state (nicknamed scourger beast) they move much faster and can jump. They fire a tail laser and can trample you by either jumping or moving. In this form they have a weak point which is the red eye that appears in front of them. SUPER SCOURGER Advanced versions of the scourgers. Think of a black Z'gok from Mobile Suit Gundam. They are much faster than regular scourgers and can jump a considerable distance. They have a powerful eye beam attack, and at close range strike with an energy sword that can freeze you solid. This freeze attack is especially annoying when there are multiple super scourgers around you. HARVESTER These turtle looking robots remind me a lot of the deroys from previous games in that they can fire a powerful plasma burst that can hit you from a considerable distance. They can also swing "fists" around them to strike at nearby enemies. In their initial appearance you're supposed to avoid hitting the blue capsules on their body, but in later missions that requirement seems to have been conveniently forgotten. You can shoot any part of their body, but their weak point is the red eye on their head. Like scourgers, harvesters explode when destroyed so don't get to close to them when they're down. SUPER HARVESTER A much stronger black version of the harvester. It has replaced the blue pods on its body for beam launchers that fire energy bullets that can track your position. GARGANT A throwback to the spider mech from Insect Armageddon, the gargant is a large six legged walker that can deploy scourgers from hatches on its legs as well as regular enemies from a drop hatch below its main body. This hatch as you might have guessed is its only weak point. To make life easier on yourself be sure to take out the hatches on its legs first to stop the infinite spawns of scourgers. RAIDSHIP The teleportation ships of Iron Rain. Unlike teleporation ships, raidships can actually fire at you. They do so shortly before opening up to deploy enemies, so when they fire that's your signal to get ready for them to open up. PILLAR They look like the teleporation anchors from EDF5, but they don't deploy anything. In fact they don't attack at all unless you (or an NPC) hits them with an attack, in which case they will discharge an large energy wave that will hit everything in the area. They are also completely indestructible. Basically they exist just to get in your way, so be careful with your aim when fighting enemies next to them. HIVECRAFT The hivecraft appears in several missions, but the only one you can actually destroy is in the prologue and that only happens once. While they have a ton of lasers on them their biggest threat are the giant flaming asteroids they drop, which fortunately can be destroyed. When they do appear later make sure to target the giant green device that deploys from the bottom of the ship. Everything else is indestructable so don't bother. RAZNID LARVAE They behave similarly to winged ants in that they attack from both the ground and air. Their durability is quite high. RAZNID The main enemy of the game. You can only kill it (with help) in the penultimate mission. Aim for the red side of it's body as that's its only weak point. RAZNID NEPHILIM The final boss of the game with way too much health. I mean seriously way too much health. NIGHT CRAWLER Used by the Kindred Rebellion, these two legged battle tanks fire missiles. When you see the red targeting laser get ready to dodge or get behind some cover. They can take quite a beating so break out the heavy weapons when you see them. CUSTOMIZED NIGHT CRAWLER Similar to the standard night crawler, this customized version has a howitzer cannon in addition to missiles. Used by the Kindred Rebellion's second in command Faiza, it usually appears alongside other night crawlers. O--------O |Missions| O--------O Note: This walkthrough assumes that you are playing on Normal difficulty. You actually unlock the same weapons on easy as you do on normal, so feel free to play through the game initially on easy if things are getting too hard. Playing on hardest the first time through is not recommended, especially if you're playing solo. Unlike the prior EDF games I don't believe there are any new enemy types that appear on higher difficulty levels. PROLOGUE: SAVIOR OF MANKIND Enemies: Storm Ants, Hivecraft Note: You can only play this mission once on a new game. I'm just including it for the sake of completion. The tutorial mission. Just stay in the street and blast the ants as they come towards you. Make sure to grab any of the blue gems that drop. There are actually scourgers in the area as well but you don't have to worry about them. After the area blows up switch to your rocket launcher and start shooting at the bottom of the hivecraft. The overdrive drastically increases your reload speed so make good use of it. After a while several storm ants will spawn in the area. These ants will knock you down if they hit, so you will have to destroy them before continuing your attack on the ship. There are several faux energy cores in the area that you can pick up to restore your overdrive. Keep firing at the hivecraft and eventually the mission will end. 01. ASSIGNMENT: BLAST TEAM Enemies: Storm Ants, Giant Creatures Nest, Scourger Unlocks (Easy/Normal): SQ-Sky Tango, AL-Grenade x12, AL-Grenade x16 (Hard): AW-Furious 2, AL-ENH Flame Grenade x8, AL-ENH Flame Grenade x12 (Hardest): EC-Exterminator Shogun, Rebooter x3, Quick Rebooter x3 A fairly easy mission and a good one if you're trying to grind storm ants to unlock the AE-2030 assault rifle. Just fire away at the initial ants with Blast team. A second smaller swarm will spawn from the left of the intersection. As you approach the giant creatures nest a third spawn will appear nearby to the right, followed by a fourth spawn from the left. Fall back down the street and keep blasting away, keeping an eye on the radar for ants coming from the side out of your field of view from the sides of the buildings. Afterwards switch to your rocket launcher and blast the nest until it explodes, and then mop up any stragglers. After the cut scene a scourger will appear. Keep shooting it with your rocket launcher until it goes down, and then collect the remaining energy gems in the area. Note that green gems do not count for the purpose of collecting all the energy gems in a mission, so if you're not low on health feel free to leave them for later. 02. SLEEPING DISASTER Enemies: Scourgers Unlocks (Easy/Normal): AW-Outrage, Rebooter, Rebooter III, Hacked Rebooter III (Hard): TF-Anger GD, SR-ENH Directional Mine V1 x6, SR-ENH Directional Mine V1 x9, SR-ENH Directional Mine V1 x12 (Hardest): RC-Italia Turrita, NP-Land Mine Z, NP-Land Mine Z x2, NP-Land Mine Z x3 Another fairly easy mission. There are five scourgers in the area that need to be eliminated and they all initially start in a dormant state. There's also a truck nearby that you can drive around in, but just as an FYI you can't use it to attack them. In fact if you try to do so the scourgers will most likely pick it up and toss it. The first scourger is right in front of you, with two more located behind the giant tower that looks like the space needle. Be careful when destroying the third scourger as doing so will automatically activate the remaining two scourgers in the area. 03. THE EARTH RESHAPEN Enemies: Storm Ants, Scourgers, Bomb Beetles Unlocks (Easy/Normal): FX-Naughty Boy, OR-Dummy Balloon Alpha x3, OR-Dummy Balloon Alpha x5, OR-Dummy Balloon Alpha x7 (Hard): MR-Arcsword Type S, OW-Sentry Gun Mk II x4, OW-Sentry Gun Mk II x6, OW-Sentry Gun Mk II x8 (Hardest): PC-Tornado Millionaire, Rebooter V, Quick Rebooter V This battle is against both storm ants and scourgers. Be wary of the rogue cable car that will come flying down the hill during the battle. Yes, it will actually damage you if it hits. When most of the enemies are eliminated a group of bomb beetles will appear in the area. These enemies can set you on fire with their attacks, and can quickly knock you over with their jet dash. Also be careful when you kill them as they explode when they die. 04. "ROUTINE WORK" Enemies: Storm Ants, Sideros Unlocks (Easy/Normal): AE-2032 Ghost YL, Quick Rebooter, Quick Rebooter III, Hacked Quick Rebooter III (Hard): AE-2032 Ghost GB, AL-ENH Timed Grenade x6, AL-ENH Timed Grenade x8, AL-ENH Timed Grenade x10 (Hardest): PG-Puppeteer When you open fire on the initial group of ants a second wave will appear very close by behind you to the right, so be prepared to engage them quickly. Several more waves of ants will appear in the distance and head towards your location. Once the ants are eliminated the first sideros enemy will appear. I don't think they take any damage while in their inactive state, but they definitely will transform and attack when hit. The sideros primary attack is to swing its arms twice, firing a burst of three explosive energy gems with each swing. It tends to telegraph this attack by thrusting its head forward and shaking aggressively, so when you see that prepare to dodge. You can also use the holes in the ground as cover as well. Once the first sideros is dead a second one will appear by the gas station. After that one is taken down a whopping 12 sideros will appear in the distance. At this point in the game there is no way you are going to be able to kill them all by yourself. Fortunately, an air strike will arrive shortly that will kill some (but not all) of them. You might want to use your overdrive at this point to finish off the remaining sideros. 05. STEEL FLOWERS ON THE COAST Enemies: Sideros, Wolf Spiders Unlocks (Easy/Normal): TF-Anger, KK-Plasma Cloud x2, KK-Plasma Cloud x3 (Hard): FX-Lucky Girl, Green Feeder Kr, Green Feeder Kr x2, Green Feeder Kr x3 (Hardest): SH-1 Shot Tactical Mortar, OW-Multi Sentry Gun Z x3 If you have a sniper rifle at this point you can use it to strike the sideros on the beach from long range on top of the cliffs. Otherwise use your rocket launcher. There are three sideros on the beach in standby mode. Once all three are destroyed a group of new spider enemies will appear. These wolf spiders are very different from the spiders in the previous EDF games. The move by jumping extremely high in the air. Unless you have a homing or rapid fire weapon it can be very difficult to hit them in the air. When they land they will spawn numerous baby wolf spiders (shown as small red dots on the map) which will quickly make a beeline for you. They explode on contact and while they don't do too much damage, getting hit by dozens of them at once can hurt. The wolf spiders themselves can fire a web at you from a distance which has the side effect of slowing your movement. Once the first wave of wolf spiders is gone a second wave will appear. After they are destroyed the mission will end. 06. QUAKE TEAM: M.I.A. Enemies: Harvesters, Wolf Spiders Unlocks (Easy/Normal): SP-Cornet, SR-Directional Mine V1 x6, SR-Directional Mine V1 x9, SR-Directional Mine V1 x12 (Hard): SH-2039 SS, SR-Poison Dir Mine V1 x4, SR-Poison Dir Mine V1 x6, SR-Poison Dir Mine V1 x8 (Hardest): RC-Gennai, SR-Directional Mine Z V1 x6, SR-Directional Mine Z V1 x9, SR-Directional Mine Z V1 x12 The new enemies here are the turtle like harvesters, and for this mission (and this mission only) you are restricted from shooting the blue pods on their bodies (which contain humans). If too many are destroyed (indicated by the bar on the top of the screen) the mission will end in failure. The harvester's primary attack is to shoot an explosive red blast from its head. This blast can be fired in an arc from a distance (similar to the deroys in the past games). They can also use their "fists" to attack nearby enemies. Their major weak point is the red eye on their head so try to aim for that as much as possible. If you deal enough damage to them they will fall to the ground temporarily stunned. Like scourgers, harvesters will explode when destroyed so don't get too close. To make matters more annoying a large wave of wolf spiders will also appear while you are engaging the harvesters. 07. DESERT DEFENSE LINE Enemies: Storm Ants, Bomber Beetles, Sideros Unlocks (Easy/Normal): TF-Grudge, MC-Proto Arcsword, Memphre, Skyfish, 4-wheel Vehicle (EDF) (Hard): EC-Exterminator Mk II, Ogopogo (Hardest): RC-Faraday, Hacked Rebooter V, Hacked Quick Rebooter V This is a battle in the desert area against a large number of storm ants followed by a wave of bomber beetles. There is a supply box at the beginning that contains several useful items that you can use without a credit penalty. The hardest part of the mission is the large number of sideros that will appear in the second half of the mission. If you're just starting out there is no way to possibly kill all the sideros with the weapons you currenly have now. Fortunately, the EDF will drop a Memphre tank to assist you. When it appears drop everything you are doing and make a beeline for it. The Memphre's 40mm cannon will make short work of the incoming sideros. Just remember to use the targeting laser (hold L1) and use light movements when using the turret as the controls are very loose and the turret will go all over the place if you try and aim normally. 08. SHADOW OF DOOM Enemies: Scourgers, Attack Pods, Gargant (Invincible), Bomber Beetles Unlocks (Easy/Normal): AE-2032 GD I, GK-Assault Chaser, OW-Sentry Gun x4, OW-Sentry Gun x6, OW-Sentry Gun x8 (Hard): AW-Doppelganger, PR-Healer II x2, PR-Healer II x3 (Hardest): SP-Sahara Rev This mission introduces a new enemy type, the attack pods. They are similar to the drones of previous EDF games, except they are far more annoying. They can teleport around and constantly bombard you with shots that can hit from a considerable distance. You may notice the gigantic six legged monstrosity stomping about nearby. Don't worry about it as it is completely indestructible. Concentrate on taking out the other enemies. The walker (known as a Gargant) will drop bomber beetles as it moves through the area. Don't get too close to the legs as it passes by. 09. KINDRED REBELLION SIGHTED Enemies: Storm Ants, Sideros, Wolf Spiders, Night Crawlers, Customized Night Crawler Unlocks (Easy/Normal): RC-Fermi, EC-Rodeo, RF-Guard Field, RF-Guard Field x2, RF-Guard Field x3 (Hard): SQ-Sky Tango 2nd Heat, CR-ENH Sticky Grenade x6, CR-ENH Sticky Grenade x8, CR-ENH Sticky Grenade x10 (Hardest): SH-Presto, CR-Sticky Grenade Z x6, CR-Sticky Grenade Z x8 This is the first difficult spike in the game and boy it's a doozy, especially if you're just beginning the game. Shortly after the inital wave of storm ants a large wave (and I mean large) of sideros will appear. You won't have an air raid or tank to help you out this time around. Don't be afraid to use your grenades and healing items liberally, as your main concern is survival and not profit. Remember that your overdrive not only greatly increases the reload time of your rocket launcher, but gives you unlimited energy as well so you can spam your dodge (and quick recover) abilities. Once the sideros are gone it's pretty much downhill as you take care of the remaining wolf spiders. The Kindred Rebellion will make a surprise visit in their night crawler mechs. These mechs are quite durable so you will want to break out the rocket launcher for them. They are actually quite nimble for their size so don't be surprised if one suddenly uses its jets to fly through the air. Keep an eye out for the targeting lasers as that usually telegraphs when they're about to fire on you. You don't have to destroy all of them. Once you take down some of them the rest will beat feet and the mission will end. 10. HARVESTING FEAR Enemies: Harvesters, Bomber Beetles, Scourgers Unlocks (Easy/Normal): SQ-Sky Waltz, BS-Opx.A1 "Alice", CR-Sticky Recovery Grenade x4, CR-Sticky Recovery Grenade x6, CR-Sticky Recovery Grenade x8 (Hard): BS-Opx.A3 "Abigail", SL-Sonic Pile Plus, SR-Shock Dir Mine V1 x6, SR-Shock Dir Mine V1 x8 (Hardest): AE-2032 Santa Claus You'll start off on top of a building with a line of four harvesters marching nearby. This time you don't have to worry about targeting the pods so feel free to go nuts. Just be aware that because they are coming in a line it quite easy to get shot from one in the back while you're busy taking out the ones in front. Destroying the first four harvesters will cause a second line of four harvesters to appear. Destroying those will cause a third group to appear, this time in a bunch rather than a line. Two groups of two scourgers and a wave of bomber beetles will also appear. 11. HYENAS Enemies: Night Crawlers, Customized Night Crawler, Storm Ants, Bomb Beetles Unlocks (Easy/Normal): PT-Angstrom Alpha, SQ-6 Shot Multi-Launcher, Night Crawler (Hard): TF-Flame Anger Rev, MR-Rapid-Fire Laser:Chandra B, Rebooter IV, Quick Rebooter IV (Hardest): FX-Hail Buster, RF-Sorcery Field Z, RF-Sorcery Field Z x2, RF-Sorcery Field Z x3 This mission starts in an abandoned EDF base similar to the practice area, with the Kindred Rebellion milling about in Night Crawlers. There are about five of them in the base (including a custom version piloted by Faiza), but you only need to destroy two of them to proceed to the next phase of the mission. If your weapons are strong enough you can actually take out all of the KR in the base, in which case you probably don't really need their assistance in the upcoming battle. Once two of the KR are down a large group of storm ants will attack the base over the walls. At this point the KR will request a truce with the EDF and any remaining KR units in the base will turn friendly (you can actually still continue to shoot at them while they're still red on the mini map). Even if you manage to destroy all of the KR units the dialogue will still continue as if they're still around. The first wave of enemies is quite large and if you're just starting out it's probably a good idea to leave some of the KR alive to help out. Once the first wave of storm ants is destroyed a second wave will come over the walls, in addition to a large group of bomb beetles. Remember that when bomb beetles explode they damage both friend and foe alike, so try to take them out when they're next to other enemies. There's a supply crate in the base containing a single land mine, which may or may not help much in the battle. 12. WARNING: GARGANT Enemies: Attack Pods, Scourgers, Gargant (Invincible) Unlocks (Easy/Normal): FX-Darios I, Green Feeder x3, Quick Feeder x3 (Hard): EC-Rodeo, Powered, BL-Kadesh, AL-Freeze Grenade x6, Al-Freeze Grenade x9 (Hardest): SP-Sucker Punch This takes place at night at the EDF base you were at in the previous mission. You will need to defend the EDF base (the large central structure in the middle) from attack, and if it takes too much damage it's mission failure. The initial attackers will be attack pods, which are similar to drones in the previous EDF series, but far more annoying. They have the ability to teleport in the air, and some will teleport repeatedly while you're trying to get a bead on them, making them difficult to take down sometimes. They also fire energy blasts that are quite difficult to avoid due to their speed and the fact that they can fire them at you from a considerable distance. Fortunately they don't deal too much damage, but the fact that they tend to pepper you continuously throughout the mission means that they can slowly but surely drain your HP. While the attack pods are annoying, the far larger threat are the scourgers attacking the base. They will blast through the front gate of the base and start attacking the central structure. Make sure to make them priority targets when they appear. The gargant looming over the base will continuously fire lasers at the base during the mission, and unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it because the gargant is indestructible. The gargant alone will shave off about 1/4 of the base's durability meter, which means you have that much less to work with when defending the base. As long as you target the scourgers when they appear (fortunately they all come through the front gate so you can keep an eye on them) you shouldn't have a problem keeping the base safe. More attack pods will appear during the battle, but focus on the scourgers first and foremost. Once the gargant leaves all you need to do is clean up the remaining attack pods and the mission will be complete. 13. BATTLE AT THE BADLANDS Enemies: Attack Pods, Scourgers, Gargant Unlocks (Easy/Normal): AW-Rampage, SP-30Y-DA, PR-Healer x2, PR-Healer x3, PR-Healer x4 (Hard): AE-2032 GD-II, MR-Arcsword Rev, RF-ENH Sorcery Field, RF-ENH Sorcery Field x2, RF-ENH Sorcery Field x3 (Hardest): PG-Double Victoria, CR-ENH Sticky Freeze Grenade x6 The Heavy Striker PA-Gear will be unlocked for this mission. I highly recommend using it for this battle as its durability is quite high. You will need to bring a long range weapon with you as you need to hit the bottom hatch of the gargant which is its only weak point. For this mission you will need to destroy the gargant. As mentioned previously, the gargant's only weak point is the hatch below it, which it opens to deploy enemies (in this case an infinite number of attack pods). The gargant also has hatches on each of its six legs, but these aren't its weak point. These hatches instead spawn scourgers, and will keep spawning scourgers every time a scourger is destroyed. If would be in your best interest to destroy the leg hatches as soon as you can to stop the infinite reinforcements of scourgers in the battle. The gargant's main hatch will automatically close once it takes a certain amount of damage, so you will need to bide your time and target other enemies until it opens up again. Note that the bottom hatch will only open once the number of active attack pods drops below a certain level, so if it's not opening you'll need to thin the herd of pods before it opens up again. 14. GLOWING PINCERS Enemies: Deathstalkers, Attack Pods, Scourgers, Raidships Unlocks (Easy/Normal): SP-Kalahari, TF-Anger 3-way, MC-Arcsword Type W, AL-Flame Grenade x8, AL-Flame Grenade x12 (Hard): SP-Euphonium GD, TF-Grudge 3-Way, OW-ENH Multi Sentry Gun x4, OH-ENH Multi Sentry Gun x6 (Hardest): SN-Apocalypse II, SR-ENH Shock Dir Mine V1 x6 This mission marks the first appearance of deathstalkers, giant scorpions that shoot venom at you from a considerable distance. Getting hit by the venom causes the poison condition, which like inflamed causes continuous damage to you over time. They can also quickly dash forward and strike you up close with their pincers. They may also put up their pincers to deflect against attacks. When this happens you need to target their tails which remain vulnerable. Once the initial wave of deathstalkers have been destroyed a second wave of attack pods and scourgers will appear. Be careful as they will materialize very close to you (or even on top of you depending on where you are at the time). Once the second wave of enemies has been dealt with a new enemy will make its appearance. The raidships are similar to the teleportation ships of previous EDF games, as they are only vulnerable to attack when they deploy enemies. It's much easier to target the raidships weak point as the entire central ship is open to attack when they open up. Unlike the teleporation ships, raidships actually do have weapons they can fire at you, but their accuracy is questionable at best. The only reason to note when they open fire is that they will open up shortly after doing so, so that's your cue to get ready to fire. It doesn't matter how many raidships you destroy at this point as more will just keep spawning in. Your goal is to survive long enough for the EDF air raid to arrive. The raidships will drop in attack pods, deathstalkers, and scourgers. Once the air strike is ready it will be indicated on the mini map by a red marker area. Get away from the zone quickly and watch the fireworks. Mop up the remaining enemies and the mission will end. 15. SCAVENGING THE SEWERS Enemies: Storm Ant Scouts, Storm Ants, Queen Ant Unlocks (Easy/Normal): AE-2040A, CM-Baryon, Enhanced Night Crawler, Item Drop (ver E) (Hard): SP-Sahara, BL-Gaugamela Genocide, SR-Flame Dir Mine V2 x6, SR-Flame Dir Mine V2 x8, SR-Flame Dir Mine V2 x10 (Hardest): SL-Viola Quartet The first underground mission of the game. Like underground missions in the previous EDF games you won't be able to call in air support or request vehicles while underground. This mission isn't anything too difficult as you're just basically going through the tunnels clearing out storm ants along the way. The Kindred Rebellion are even nice enough to put red arrows along the tunnels so you don't get lost. While there are multiple paths to take along the way they all lead to the same place so feel free to explore as you see fit. From the start just head down the tunnel and to the left through the hole in the wall. When you reach the large cavern you'll get a cutscene. When the cutscene ends the two storm ant scouts will quickly retreat. It's actually possible to destroy one or both of them while they're still in the room if you're fast enough and have strong weapons. Otherwise you don't have to worry about it as they're not really a factor in this mission. As you exit the cavern note the crack in the wall next to the right arrow as you enter the tunnel leading out. A storm ant will pop out as you approach it. You can avoid it by staying away from it as you pass by. Keep following the tunnel, taking out the storm ants as you go. Note that if you see any wooden crates you can shoot them open for some red energy gems. You should come to a split in the path. Head right and take out the storm ants that appear. Another group of storm ants will spawn in from the other path and start heading towards you. You'll soon reach another branching path with two red arrows pointing in opposite directions. It doesn't matter which one you take as both lead around to a hole in the ground. Drop down and keep following the arrows. Another group of storm ants will come at you, with a storm ant scout mixed in. You probably won't notice it at all but the scout has red stripes on its carapace. Destroy them all and then jump down the nearby hole. At this poing you'll notice what appear to be egg sacs in the tunnels. Unlike EDF 5 ants won't come out of these. They will sometimes drop blue or green energy gems (mostly green) when destroyed so feel free to shoot them all for some freebies. As you go down the tunnel another ant will pop out from the wall from the right to try to surprise you, with another large group of ants appearing shortly after that. Near the next corner by the remains of what appears to be a bomb beetle another swarm of ants will spawn in. Keep heading down the tunnel past the omnimous webbing and you should reach a supply crate (guardians) and another spawn of ants. Make sure to top off your health with all the eggs in the area before you drop down the large hole with the red and while barriers in front of it. Drop down the hole and you'll encounter the first queen ant of the game. It's not quite as large as it was in previous games, but it can still do some damage. If you haven't used your overdrive yet now would be a good time to do so. Once the queen is dead Blast team will talk for a few moments before the mission end timer will start. Use this time to blast the eggs in the room and pick up any additional gems that might appear. 16. RESCUE MISSION Enemies: Storm Ants, Crazy Ants, Wolf Spiders Unlocks (Easy/Normal): SP-Sasan, SH-Sonatina, Black Mass (Hard): AW-Wrath, BS-Opx.E1 "Elizabeth", Willatuk (Hardest): SN-Nile 1, Mokele-Mbembe At this point the Prowl Rider PA-Gear will be unlocked. While the mission description recommends using it for this mission, it's not really necessary. Basically you'll need to rescue three groups of EDF tanks in the area. Don't worry about the whole rescue thing as the tanks can't be destroyed and only are there as a plot device. The first group of enemies are your standard variety storm ants, but the second group introduces a new enemy type. Crazy ants are a sort of orangeish variant of regular storm ants. They are slightly stronger than regular storm ants and their acid attack deals more damage. The third and final group consists of storm ants, crazy ants, and wolf spiders. You'll not only have to deal with the stream of baby spiders coming at you from the ground, but also the ants that will be sniping you from the sides of the nearby skycrapers as well. 17. SWARM IN THE DUNES Enemies: Attack Pods, Raidships, Crazy Ants, Sideros Unlocks (Easy/Normal): SH-Allegretto, TF-Grudge P, OW-Multi Sentry Gun x2, OW-Multi Sentry Gun x3 (Hard): SH-Allegretto, SN-Iguazu 2, PR-Guardian II, PR-Guardian II x2, PR-Guardian II x3 (Hardest): MS-Rapid Fire Laser:Chandra A* Bring a long range weapon with you. Shorly after the attack pods turn around to attack, four raidships will warp in and start to deploy crazy ants and attack pods. Take them down one at a time to reduce the number of incoming enemies. A second group of raidships will appear after the first, some of which will drop sideros. 18. THE HIVECRAFT RETURNS Enemies: Hivecraft (Invincible), Crazy Ants, Scourgers Unlocks (Easy/Normal): AE-2032 Ghost CC, TF-Flame Anger, NP-Land Mine, NP-Land Mine x2, NP-Land Mine x3 (Hard): SP-70X, SL-Arabesque, AL-ENH Timed Flame Grenade x6, Al-ENH Timed Flame Grenade x8 (Hardest): SN-Iguazu 3, KK-Plasma Cloud Z x2 I recommend bringing a long range for this mission as well. This is another defense mission except this time you're defending the entire city from the hivecraft's attack. The hivecraft will drop meteors on the city and if the city takes too much damage it's mission failure. You can tell when a meteor is dropping because the NPC will usually mention it and you can see the red glow appear from beneath the ship. You need to shoot down the meteors before they hit the city, and because the meteors drop from different positions from around the ship it's best to use a long range weapon. Oh and you'll also need to be aware of the crazy ants that will spawn nearby. As the mission progresses the hivecraft will start dropping more meteors at faster intervals, sometimes two at once. The number of enemies will also increase as time progresses, and eventually scourgers will start to join the fray. You'll just need to hold out until the timer runs out and the mission will end. 19. REMNANTS AMONGST THE RUINS Enemies: Attack Pods, Raidships, Scourgers (Beast Form) Unlocks (Easy/Normal): SH-2030GD, DD-Telsa I, RF-Sorcery Field, RF-Sorcery Field x2, RF-Sorcery Field x3
(Hard): AE-La Marseillaise, BS-Opx.G1 "Gabriela", Quick Feeder Kr, Quick Feeder
Kr x2, Quick Feeder Kr x3
(Hardest): MR-Rapid-Fire Missiles:Kepler II, SR-Directional Land Mine Z V2 x6,
SR-Directional Land Mine Z V2 x9
The first part of the mission is fairly simple as you will need to take down
the three raidships in the area and the attack pods. Once the raidships are
gone a group of scourgers will appear from the sea. As they approach they will
transform into a new quadruped form known as a scourger beast. In this form
they move significantly faster and can jump long distances. Their primary
attack is a tail laser, and they can also cause damage by jumping or trampling
over you. In this form they have a large red eye in front of their body, which
is their primary weak point. Several attack pods will also appear to attack,
but obviously the scourger beasts are your primary target.
20. A GIANT APPEARS
Enemies: Beizal (Invincible), Deathstalkers, Night Crawlers, Storm Ant Scouts,
Bomb Beetles, Hivecraft (Invincible)
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): SP-Cornet Ex, MC-Arcsword, SR-Shock Dir Mine V2 x6, SR-Shock Dir
Mine V2 x8, SR-Shock Dir Mine V2 x10
(Hard): SL-Jester 2, WS-Napier Laser SC, OW-ENH Sentry Sniper x2, OW-ENH Sentry
Sniper x3
(Hardest): PT-Night Sniper, PR-Holy Sorcerer, PR-Holy Sorcerer x2, PR-Holy
Sorcerer x3
The first kaiju mission of the game. The beizal can't be killed here, but you
will need to do a certain amount of damage to it to clear the mission. Like
the erginus in the prior games, the beizal's primary attacks are its energy
breath and sheer mass. The one attack you definitely need to be aware of is its
EMP attack. You can tell when it's about to use it when you see a large antenna
like organ rise up from its back. When you see it coming get as far away from
it as possible as it has a huge blast radius. It you get hit with it not only
will you get damaged, but your energy reserves and optical weapons will get
completely drained as well. Note that if you're carrying an optical weapon that
can't be recharged, this means it will be completely emptied and rendered
useless for the rest of the battle.
Aside from the beizal, the only other enemies that are on the battlefield are
deathstalkers, which can be hard to see since the area is shrouded in fog. The
Kindred Rebellion are also in the area as well. Feel free to engage them, but
they will eventually peace out shortly after the beizal goes on a rampage. Keep
shooting the beizal and a wave of bomb beetles will arrive. Once the beizal
takes a certain amount of damage the hivecraft will appear and the beizal will
withdraw from the area. Once the beizal is gone a second wave of deathstalkers
will appear. Destroy the remaining enemies and the mission will end.
21. THE NIGHTMARE CONTINUES
Enemies: Winged Ants, Deathstalkers, Sideros
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): AW-Furious, FX-Xerxes, AL-Shock Grenade x20, Bigfoot
(Hard): AW-Furious GD, MR-Laser Cannon:Hubble, KK-ENH Plasma Cloud x2, KK-ENH
Plasma Cloud x3
(Hardest): SN-Armageddon II, Sasquatch
(Disaster): Sphinx
This mission introduces winged ants. They're a bit like the bees in previous
games, except they shoot acid instead of stingers. The winged ants can also
land on the ground, whereupon they behave just like regular storm ants. This
is basically a wave survival mission where you'll face off against several
waves of winged ants. The third wave will have a group of deathstalkers thrown
into the mix as well. Eventually a number of sideros will drop in from the sky.
At this point the EDF will drop in bigfoot mechs into the area. Get in and use
the cannons (R2) to take down the sideros. On hard or higher difficulties
you'll probably want to use the laser (L2) instead. Once the sideros are taken
care of mop up the remaining enemies. You might want to hold up on destroying
all of them when there are only a few remaining, as you can use the time to get
out and pick up the energy gems scattered about the area.
22. DANGER ON ALL SIDES
Enemies: Sideros
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): WS-Napier Laser, EC-Exterminator, AL-Timed Grenade x6, AL-Timed
Grenade x8, AL-Timed Grenade x10
(Hard): SQ-Sky Salsa, BS-Blaster Gun III, CR-Sticky Rcvry Grenade Z x2,
CR-Sticky Rcvry Grenade Z x3
(Hardest): SL-Lorentz
You'll be facing nothing but sideros in this mission. The main thing you need
to be aware of are the bazillion red barrels strewn about the area by the
Kindred Rebellion. Shooting them will cause them to explode, as will running
into them. Aside from that there isn't anything special about this mission. The
sideros all start in a dormant state so if you just take them on one at a time
you shouldn't have too much of a problem.
23. A MYSTERIOUS PILLAR
Enemies: Pillar (Invincible), Storm Ants, Crazy Ants, Green Bomb Beetle
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): AE-20NN, PC-Hurricane, SR-Directional Mine V2 x6, SR-Directional
Mine V2 x9, SR-Directional Mine V2 x12
(Hard): RC-Gauss L.M.I., EC-Opx.D1 "David", OW-Sentry Launcher x2, OW-Sentry
Launcher x3
(Hardest): SH-Alegrissimo, EC-Matador, NP-ENH Shock Mine x2
The pillar is completely invincible so don't bother trying to destroy it. In
fact you can't destroy any of the pillars in the game, so from this point I'll
stop pointing out that they are indestructible. You do actually have to shoot
at it for the purposes of clearing the mission. When shot a pillar generates a
large energy field that damages everything in a huge radius (unfortunately
enemies are unaffected). The bad news is that NPCs can also trigger the pillar,
which will happen in future missions with alarming frequency.
The enemy force consists of a large group of storm and crazy ants that will
come swarming down from the cliffs. Shortly afterwards a new enemy variant,
green bomb beetles, will appear. As you might expect, they look just like the
bomb beetles except they are green. Their carapace significantly reduces the
damage they take from optic (laser) weapons. In addition, when they die the
blast radius they create is much larger.
Once the enemies on the beach have been taken care off, all that remains are to
eliminate the ants that are swarming around the pillar. There are two ways to
go about this. You can bring a long range weapon with a large blast radius and
just start firing at them from a distance. Or you could get close to the pillar
and (carefully) shoot at the ants while they are safely away from it. Once all
the ants have been eliminated the mission will end.
24. SILVER ARMY
Enemies: Pillar, Silver Ants, Deathstalkers, Wolf Spiders
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): PG-Victoria, BS-Opx.C1 "Celia", Item Drop (Ver 1), Strafe
Attack:Machine Gun
(Hard): RC-Fermi Finale, SQ-6 Shot Multi-Launcher FJ, PR-Sorcerer II,
PR-Sorcerer II x2, PR-Sorcerer II x3
(Hardest): MR-Arcsword Type SXS, RF-Power Field Z x2
This mission introduces the silver ant enemy. Like the green bomb beetle, the
silver ants have a reflective carapace that reduces the damage they receive
from optic (laser) weapons. They are also much tougher than storm or crazy
ants. The first enemy wave will have nothing but silver ants, but the second
wave has deathstalkers and wolf spiders as well. There is a pillar right in
the battle area so it's very easy to hit it by mistake if you fire wildly.
Unfortunately, the NPCs tend to shoot it quite frequenly during this mission,
so try to keep away from the pillar if you can.
25. Triple Threat
Enemies: Pillars, Winged Ants, Scourgers (Beast Form)
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): AW-Wrath Prototype, CM-Maser Rifle Prototype, Green Feeder x5,
Quick Feeder x5
(Hard): SQ-Mauna Kea Rev, SL-Achaemenes VII, NP-Shock Land Mine x2, NP-Shock
Land Mine x3
(Hardest): PC-Pinocchio, TF-Grudge PX, KK-Plasma Icicle x2
Yet more pillar fun. This time there are three of them in the area. And yes the
NPCs still love shooting at them for some reason. The winged ants aren't much
of a problem, but the massive scourger beast rush is a completely different
matter. You may encounter a great deal of slowdown here (as in frame rate drops
for your PS4) as the scourger beasts come at you from every direction and
multiple buildings are destroyed all at once.
26. Pillar Raid
Enemies: Pillar, Crazy Ants, Scourgers, Beizal, Night Crawlers, Customized
Night Crawlers
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): RC-Fermi Coda, MC-Arcsword Type R, CR-Sticky Grenade x6,
CR-Sticky Grenade x8, CR-Sticky Grenade x10
(Hard): PT-Shadow Sniper GD, SN-Nile 3, Hacked Rebooter IV, Hacked Quick
Rebooter IV
(Hardest): SH-1 Shot Ultimate Mortar
This mission is mostly dealing with waves of crazy ants, with a number of
scourgers thrown into the mix. Once all the enemies are dealt with the beizal
will reappear, and this time you'll have to take him down for real. Shortly
after it arrives the Kindred Rebellion will arrive on scene as well. While you
don't have to destroy them to clear the mission feel free to engage them if you
like. Better yet, lure beizal near them and try to get both of them to fight
each other. Once the KR take some damage they will fall back, leaving just you
and the kaiju to duke it out. The beizal is quite strong and its ranged attacks
are quite accurate even from a distance, so don't be afraid to use your items
(and overdrive) if necessary.
27. AN OMNIOUS SIGN
Enemies: Pillar, Wolf Spiders, Hivecraft, Raznid(Invincible), Storm Ants,
Attack Pods
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): PC-Puncher, SQ-Sky Rhumba, KK-Plasma Icicle x2, KK-Plasma Icicle
x3
(Hard): PT-Angstrom Gamma, SN-Armageddon, SR-ENH Shock Dir Mine V2 x6, SR-ENH
Shock Dir Mine V2 x8, SR-ENH Shock Dir Mine V2 x10
(Hardest): SQ-Sky Salsa GD, EC-Exterminator Mk III, OW-ENH Sentry Launcher x2,
OH-ENH Sentry Launcher x3
Bring a long range weapon for this mission. You'll be glad you did. Aside from
the one you destroy in the prologue mission, hivecrafts are indestructible so
I'll stop noting that in the description. You'll initially be up against a
group of wolf spiders. Once the spiders are destroyed the hivecraft will appear
and absorb the energy from the pillar, summoning raznid to the area. As you
might imagine raznid is indestructible at this point so don't bother trying to
shoot at it. What you will need to shoot at though is the large green device
that comes out of the bottom of the hivecraft. Keep shooting at the device
until it explodes and the hivecraft disappears. The hivecraft will reappear
after a while and deploy the device again. Several storm ants and attack pods
will appear as well. Focus your fire on the green device each time the
hivecraft appears. Once you destroy it five times the mission will end.
28. BACK TO "NORMAL"
Enemies: Giant Creature Nest, Silver Ants, Deathstalker
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): PG-Jester, PT-Dark Sniper, PR-Guardian, PR-Guardian x2,
PR-Guardian x3
(Hard): PT-Linked Energy Blaster, RC-Maxwell, KK-ENH Plasma Icicle x10
(Hardest): EC-Opx.D3 "Dolph", SR-Flame Dir Mine V2 x6, SR-Flame Dir Mine V2 x8
To make life easier for yourself the first thing you should do is to take out
the giant creature nest in the southeast corner of the map (where the line is
north). Otherwise you're going to be fighting a war of attrition as endless
waves of silver ants come at you while you're trying to deal with the
deathstalkers. Once the nest has been taken care of the mission becomes much
easier as you just need to take out the deathstalkers and any remaining ants in
the area.
29. RETURN TO THE CAVES
Enemies: Silver Ants, Bomb Beetles, Green Bomb Beetles, Night Crawlers,
Customized Night Crawler
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): SQ-Sky Waltz, DD-Etherite, SR-Poison Dir Mine V1 x4, SR-Poison
Dir Mine V1 x6, SR-Poison Dir Mine V1 x8
(Hard): PC-Hard Puncher, SQ-Sky Waltz Encore, RF-ENH Guard Field
(Hardest): SP-Sasan Century, CM-Baryon S
Another underground mission. As you can see from the enemy list bringing laser
weapons to this mission is a bad idea. This is a straightforward mission going
through the Kindred Rebellion base you went through way back in mission 15. The
enemies here are mostly silver ants, with a few bomb beetles thrown in. In the
final cave you'll come across a few KR fightning against some green bomb
beetles. Destroy all of them (including the KR forces) and the mission will
end.
30. THE COST OF EXPERIMENTATION
Enemies: Sideros (EDF Type), Bomb Beetle, Green Bomb Beetle
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): AW-Furious Rev, Enhanced Memphre, Item Drop (Ver 2)
(Hard): PC-Green Megacross, PT-Euclid Theta, Enhanced Thunderbird
(Hardest): RC-Maxwell Demon, Carbuncle
In this mission you'll be facing off against an EDF sideros variant. The main
difference between these and the regular ones is that the explosive gems they
throw don't detonate immediately, but are on a time delay. As you take down the
EDF sideros several bomb beetles will join the battle. Eliminate all the
enemies and the mission will end.
31. TANK CONCERTO
Enemies: Winged Ants, Green Bomb Beetles, Queen Ant
Unlocks
(Easy/Normal): AE-2040, RC-Gauss, Green Feeder AR, Quick Feeder Ar
(Hard): AE-2041, CR-Sticky Freeze Grenade x6, RF-ENH Guard Field x2, RF-ENH
Guard Field x3
(Hardest): AE-20XX, PC-Tycoon, BL-Catalaunica Triumph, CR-Sticky Rcvry Grenade
ZS x2
Your mission is to protect the tank convoy in the area, but all you really need
to do is to eliminate all the enemies. The first wave is a group of winged
ants, followed by a second wave of winged ants plus several green bomb beetles.
The third and final wave is a queen ant along with a group of winged ants.
32. STANDOFF AT THE BASE
Enemies: Attack Pods, Scourgers (Beast Form), Raznid Larvae
Unlocks

Another base protection. The initial enemies will be attack pods, but as their
numbers go down several scourgers in beast form will appear to attack the base.
Once the scourgers have been destroyed a new enemy will break down the front
gate and attack. These creatures are the larvae of the raznid that you
encountered way back in mission 27. They can actually fly, but for this
mission they'll stay on the ground and behave like ants. They're quite tough
and will quickly swarm around your mission sensitive target, so make sure to
take them down before they destroy your base. A second wave of raznid larvae
will appear behind your position shortly after the first. Destroy them all and
the mission will end.

The mission starts with a battle with a large number of raznid larvae. Four
raidships will appear shortly thereafter and start deploying enemies, one of
which is new. The large ominous black robots are super scourgers, and they are
much stronger than their vanilla brethren. While they don't have a beast form
they can jump long distances to quickly close the gap. At long range they fire
a powerful laser, while at close range they have an energy sword attack that
can freeze you solid. This is by far the more dangerous attack of the two, as
you can be repeatedly frozen in place over and over again, especially if you're
surrounded by multiple super scourgers. Try to take out the raidships asap so
you won't be overwhelmed by the sheer number of enemies coming at you.

You'll be fighting raznid larvae again, except this time they'll be airborne.
Generally raznid larvae behave quite similarly to winged ants, except they are
much stronger. They usually fly around in the air bombarding you at range, but
will occasionally land and crawl around on the ground where they will try to
bowl you over while you're busy aiming at their aerial brethren.
Once the initial wave of larvae is destroyed a second wave will come in front
the southwest. You may have to go up the path along the cliffs to the second
tank group if some of the larvae end up getting stuck over there. Once the
second wave has been destroyed the tank battalions will launch an all out
attack against raznid, which if you played any of the previous EDF games you
can already tell is going to fail. Shortly afterwards several purple sideros
will land on the battlefield. These are mutant sideros and they are much faster
and tougher than the regular variety. Aside from the fact that they move very
quickly, their biggest behavior change is that before they launch an attack
they will leap backwards high into the air before firing rather than standing
still. In addition a third wave of raznid larvae will appear along with them.
Raznid will also start to attack the tank units, so make sure to stay far away
from them when they get annihilated by its breath. Continue to attack the
remaining enemies. Once they're all gone raznid will eliminate the second tank
unit and then head back out to sea, ending the mission.

(Hardest): AW-Outrage Cruel, FX-Cyrus II Conquest
For this mission you might want to bring some serious firepower along. From the
start hop into the nearby car and quickly collect the two clusters of energy
gems nearby before the Kindred Rebellion can get to them. Engage the night
crawlers that appear shortly afterwards. The battle will be interrupted by the
arrival of a beizal. The KR will withdraw shortly after, so it's up to you to
take it down. As you fight the beizal a second one will appear in the area.
As you might imagine fighting two of them at once is a bad idea, so try to take
out one of them asap.

(Hardest): PT-Linked Super Blaster, BL-Phoenicia Triumph
The scourgers in the area are all in a dormant state, but that's not going to
last very long. Most of them will transform into their beast form and make a
beeline straight for you. To make matters worse two raidships will arrive in
the area and start dropping even more scourgers, one of which will drop the
super variants. You will want to take them out asap as there are already enough
scourgers rampaging about for you to deal with.
When Maive says "More enemy backup!" expect a very large wave of scourger
beasts with some super scourgers in the mix. Don't be afraid to bring out
some support like a vehicle drop or sentry guns as this can be a tough
fight, especially when multiple beast scourgers start ganging up on you. Once
you survive the onslaught the worse is pretty much over. Use the down time to
collect the large number of energy gems scattered about before you go after the
remaining scourgers in the area.
37. TOWERS OF DOOM

(Hard): WS-Integral Ray FdX, MR-Super Missile:Galileo, Item Drop (Ver 3)
(Hardest): FX-Naughty Box Jr., SQ-Sky Tango Final Heat
The goal here is to take out the two giant creature nests. Bring a powerful
long range weapon like a railgun and start blasting away at the nest in the
distance. Once that one is destroyed head a little down the street and turn to
the left to target the second nest in the distance. When Dr. Mengel starts
talking on the radio several mutant sideros will appear from the sky and start
attacking. The mutant sideros are quite fast so you will probably want to
switch to a weapon with a higher rate of fire for them. Raznid larvae will also
start attacking at this time. Once both nests and all enemies have been
destroyed the mission will end.

This is a timed mission. Although the mission orders are to exterminate the
Kindred Rebellion, you're actually here to save them. The initial wave of
enemies are four harvesters and attack pods. As you destroy the harvesters a
new black variant of them will appear. These super harvesters have cannons
around their body that fire energy blasts in all directions. Like regular
harvesters their main weak point is the glowing eye on their head, although
their head and neck seem to be less armored than their main body so try to aim
for that if you don't have a clear shot at the eye. The harvesters and super
harvesters are the biggest threats here so focus on them first. Once the
harvesters and their super variants have been dealt with shoot down the
remaining attack pods.
Once three minutes remain you'll get a message from Lightning saying that
they're having "technical" issues and will be delayed. The mission timer will
roll back to seven minutes and a new wave of harvesters will appear. Again
focus on the harvesters first, and once they're gone mop up the remaining pods.
You may notice that some of them look a bit different than usual. These black
variants are super attack pods, but you'ld be hard pressed to tell the
difference in the melee. Once all the enemies are destroyed the mission is
complete.
39. ONE NIGHT"S RESOLVE

Unlocks

(Hard): DD-Grand Jive Q, BL-Phoenicia, Enhanced Will-o'-the-Wisp
(Hardest): AW-Madness, SP-30X, Raijyu
From the start head down the street and collect all the energy gems scattered
about. After all the dialogue an earthquake will occur and green gas will
flood the area. This gas will reanimate all the ants on the street into zombie
ants, which will immediately attack. The zombie ants are very tough and their
acid attack will instantly knock you down on contact. Interestingly enough, any
weapons and items that have a healing effect (like the green cross or recovery
mines) will cause damage to them instead. The green gas makes it hard to see in
the distance, so you'll need to rely on your radar to check the position of
incoming enemies. When the second earthquake occurs two more groups of zombie
ants will appear, along with a group of zombie scorpions (deathstalkers). There
are quite a bit of enemies here so having weapons with a blast effect and/or
sentry turrets will help.

(Hardest): SH-2041A
You'll be fighting against a large number of silver ants here so try to avoid
bringing in laser weapons. Once the silver ants are gone a second wave of
enemies will appear consisting of attack pods and super scourgers. The super
scourgers are the more immediate concern, as they can freeze you over and over
with their melee attack if they close enough and gang up on you. Concentrate on
the super scourgers first before taking on the pods. When Maive announces more
enemy backup a third wave of attack pods, silver ants, and super scourgers will
appear. Fortunately, at this point the Kindred Rebellion will arrive as
reinforcements. While they don't help out too much, at this point anything is
better than nothing. Again, focus on the super scourgers before mopping up the
remaining enemies.

(Hardest): SQ-6 Shot Multi Launcher JP Type 2, BL-Hastings Oracle
This mission is a revisit to the old Kindred Rebellion base. The primary threat
here are the mystic spiders and the continuous spawn of babies that they send
towards you during the mission. You might want to bring along a fast firing
weapon with a quick reload so you can hose down the baby spiders as they come
at you. Head for the first supply cache shooting the spiders as you go. On
lower difficulties it's not too bad, but on higher ones the babies can do some
significant damage in a short amount of time.
Shortly after entering the cave with the first supply cache two mystic spiders
(and babies) will appear for an ambush. Before that you might want to head past
the area (near the excavator) so that you're not surrounded and turn around so
you can ambush the ambushers. After the first cache is secured proceed down the
next cave path where four mystic spiders will appear to attack. Follow the
arrows to a large cave area with a queen ant and several crazy ants. You
probably don't need me to tell you this, but focus on the queen first, and then
take out the remaining ants. If you have a weapon with range you can snipe at
the queen from around the corner. The area with the second cache has a lot of
eggs around it, so shoot them all to get some blue and green gems.
When you leave the chamber you can see a red dot on the mini map. It's another
mystic spider. As you approach it two more will appear in the corridor behind
you. Keep following the arrows until you reach a large cavern filled with water
(and explosive barrels). As you approach the third cache two queen ants will
appear. Try not to fight in the middle of the area as explosive barrels are bad
for your health. If you still have your overdrive (which you should) now is the
time to use it. Once both queens are destroyed the mission will end.
42. BATTLE IN THE SNOW

There are six super scourgers in the area, and they are all initially on
standby mode. As you approach the ant corpse in the distance a large swarm of
zombie ants will attack. There's a super scourger nearby as well, but as long
as you don't attack it or use explosives near it, it shouldn't go active. Once
the initial wave of zombie ants are destroyed all you need to do is hunt down
the super scourgers in the city. After an earthquake several green bomb beetles
will appear in the area. Fortunately, they aren't too aggressive and appear to
be a bit lethargic, most likely due to the cold. Blowing them up might wake up
some of the super scourgers nearby, but since they're all spaced apart you
shouldn't have an issue taking them down one at a time.

You'll be up against a large number of super attack pods here. They move a lot
faster than the standard variety, so having a weapon with homing abilities will
help quite a bit. Once the attack pods are destroyed a second enemy wave
consisting of raznid larvae will appear. There are quite a few of them, and
some of them will land on the ground to bum rush you while you're busy aiming
upwards at their flying brethren. After the raznid larvae are destroyed a third
wave of super scourgers will appear from the ocean. Fortunately, the battleship
Verbena will destroy most of them as they arrive on shore. Mop up the remaining
super scourgers to end the mission.

PE-Psyche Mass Prod x3
Several raidships will appear to attack the Verbena. Don't worry about the ones
to the front as the air force will take care of those. Eliminate the raidships
closest to the Verbena. There are several turrets you can use around the ship,
but most of them are quite fragile so you might just want to use your own
firepower. There should be three of them: two to the sides and one above. Once
the raidships are destroyed continue shooting down the winged ants. A wave of
attack pods will appear shortly. After a while a gargant will appear to attack
the ship. Don't worry about this one as it will be automatically destroyed.
It's the second gargant that appears that you need to worry about. The second
gargant will quickly destroy the Verbena, so get to the front of the ship and
take it out asap. Its weak point is still the hatch underneath, but due to
the angle of the attack it's hard to hit unless you're right below it. Get to
the front of the ship and unload into it as it passes overhead. Once the
gargant is destroyed the mission will automatically end.

(Hardest): DD-Grand Jive Pair, BL-Kadesh Triumph
This is a fairly tough mission. The first wave consists of a group of super
scourgers and raznid larvae. The raznid larvae are annoying, but the super
scourgers are downright dangerous. Expect to be quickly surrounded by them
shortly at the start of the mission. You might want to bring a powerful short
range weapon, or a weapon with the shock attribute. Also remember that while
using your overdrive you are immune to abnormal effects such as freezing (which
the super scourgers tend to do quite frequently).
Destroying all the super scourgers will cause a large group of attack pods to
appear. Once the initial wave of raznid larvae are destroyed, a wave of mutant
sideros will arrive. The mutant sideros are the primary threat here. If you
have vehicle support it might be a good idea to call it in before they arrive.
Around this time the Verbena will initiate a bombardment attack. Make sure to
get out of the red targeting zone when it appears. Chances are it's probably
not going to eliminate much of the enemies, but every bit helps. Once the
mutant sideros are destroyed a final enemy wave of raznid larvae will appear.
Destroy the remaining enemies to end the mission.

You'll want to bring along a long range weapon for attacking raidships in this
mission. From the start head forward and up the left stairs. Turn around 180
degrees and look upwards. There should be a raidship up above. Destroy it, and
then turn to the left towards the staircase to the second raidship. Destroy
that one as well. Turn back to the right and head up the stairs to the main
area of the ship. Hang a right at the top and head towards the rear of the
ship. You need to destroy the remaining raznid larvae before the next two
raidships will attack. Facing towards the front of the ship one should appear
to the upper left and one will appear from above your position. Again, you will
need to destroy all the remaining enemies before the last and final raidship
will appear over the center of the Verbena. Once the last raidship is destroyed
four super scourgers will appear, one at each end of the carrier sections on
the sides of the ship. Destroy all four of them to end the mission.

Update: There's an even easier way to clear the mission. See the credit farming
section below.
It's nothing but ants in this mission. You'll start off against a single queen.
While you're fighting the queen try to edge to the left (east). There is a
building under construction near the east side of the map, and it will come in
very handy in the next phase. You could try to make a break for it at the
start, but the queen is most likely focus on you while you're trying to head
towards it. Once the queen is dead make an immediate bee line towards the
building under construction on the east side of the map. Several winged ants
will appear, but ignore them and head towards the afformetioned building. Once
you're at the building head up to the second or third floor. This building will
be your "safe zone" for the upcoming battle.
A few words about the construction building. While you are in the building most
(but not all) acid attacks will miss. You may get hit by a few attacks, but for
the most part the ants will just scurry around the building. You can get hit
by ant melee attacks if you're near the edge of the building, so stay away from
the edges. Also queen ants can hit you straight through the building if they do
a melee attack, so if one is near the building stay as far away from it as
possible. Now back to our regularly scheduled walkthrough.
A very large group of ants, including storm, winged, and silver ants will
appear along with four queen ants. As you might imagine fighting all of them at
the same time is rather tough. I highly recommend fighting from inside of the
building. As long as you don't use any explosive weapons or weapons that can
destroy buildings you should be relatively safe. As I mentioned above the
building is not 100% safe from attacks. You need to be wary of where the queen
ants are at all times. If they get close to the building move away from them.
Otherwise, just keep firing at the queens as they present themselves. Once all
four queens are gone you've pretty much won. From the safety of the building
eliminate the remaining ants from your vantage point. Remember that ants can
melee attack you if you're near the edge so don't get too close. Once the ants
have been whittled down to just a few you might want to exit the building and
proceed to gather the abundant gems scattered about the area.

As you can see from the enemy list, the game is going to throw just about
everything at you during this mission. Obviously you will want to destroy the
four giant creature nests asap to avoid becoming overwhelmed by the sheer
number of enemies coming at you. Destroying the nests will cause zombie ants
to spawn in. During the mission Lightning will come in with a strafing run.
Move out of the target area when you see it coming.
Once the ants have all been destroyed a new wave of enemies will appear
consisting of bomb beetles, green bomb beetles, and deathstalkers. After that
wave has been destroyed a third and final wave of enemies will spawn in
consisting of mystic spiders and zombie scorpions. Oh, and two beizals. Don't
worry about the beizals as they will shortly be destroyed by the Verbena. Once
both of them are dead mop up the remaining enemies to end the mission.

This mission is similar to the previous mission, except you'll be up against
aggressor type enemies. Having a long range weapon to take down the raidships
can help. The initial wave consists of scourgers, super scourgers, and raznid
larvae. Once the initial group of enemies have been destroyed raidships will
start coming into the area and begin deploying various enemies. The raidships
will leave after a certain period of time, but if you can destroy them quickly
you can minimize the number of the enemies they drop. The first group of
raidships will drop attack pods, super attack pods, and raznid larvae. The
second group of raidships will deploy harvesters and super harvesters. The
third group will drop scourgers, sideros, and mutant sideros. The fourth and
final group will deploy raznid larvae. This is pretty much a wave survival
mission, so don't be afraid to make use of your support weapons and vehicles.

You're going up against a large number of sideros in this mission. First you'll
need to destroy a large incoming wave of raznid larvae. After that a large
number of sideros will drop into the battlefield. And when I say a large
number, I mean a large number. In fact before you destroy the last of the
initial raznid larvae you might want to call in a vehicle. The number of
sideros that are going to come after you in this next part is truly
frightening. I recommend using the heavy striker for this mission as the energy
shield will come in very handy for all the energy blasts up the ying yang
coming in your direction. Try to focus on one enemy at a time (mutant sideros
are the higher priority targets).
Once the sideros have been reduced in number, two beizals will arrive in the
area. Try to take out the remaining sideros before dealing with them. Once one
of the beizals has been defeated a dozen mutant sideros will arrive, followed
by a wave of raznid larvae. If you can survive all that then you definitely
deserve a medal.

For this mission you will need to deal a set amount of damage to raznid before
the hexaquark cannon can fire. Its weak point is the left side of its face and
body where the hexaquark cannon hit it. If you have a very long range weapon
you can actually shoot at raznid from the front of the ship. Otherwise, you
will need to wait unit it gets closer before you can attack. Raznid larvae will
continuously appear to interfere with your attacks, so you may have to
eliminate ones closest to you before you can attack raznid itself. Raznid will
either jump to the left, right, or front of the ship. Target the left side of
raznid with your weapons. You can also use the turret weapons on the side of
the ship as well. If raznid rears up with its claw raised you have a limited
amount of time to damage it before it brings its claw down to damage the
Verbena. The Verbena can only take three attacks before it is destroyed so keep
an eye out for raznid whenever it does this.
Once raznid takes enough damage it will jump back in front of the ship and call
more larvae. It will then jump again towards the ship. Keep shooting at its
weak point when it gets close. The raznid will repeat this process. As you
damage the raznid the hexaquark cannon will charge. Once it almost reaches 100%
head for the circular area near the front of the ship above the hexaquark
cannon. When the aiming reticule appears fire the cannon and the mission will
end.

There are two ways to kill the final boss. If you want to cheese the boss to
death please see the section on credit farming below. Otherwise, you're going
to have to do this the hard way. The final boss has a ton of health. In fact,
even on easy difficulty it's going to take you an incredible amount of time to
kill it, especially with your limited weapon selection during your first time
through the game. I highly recommend bringing a long range weapon (700-800m) as
it makes the first part of the battle much easier.
The weak point of the boss is actually inside of the large bulbous mass on top
of the raznid nephilim. If you have a weapon with a large blast radius or a
weapon with the penetrating attribute (like a railgun) you can actually shoot
it through the covering from the start. Otherwise, you're going to have to get
it to open up. You'll notice a hivecraft nearby next to the nephilim. Get close
to it and fire at the green device that it deploys. This is where having a long
range weapon helps. When the device is destroyed the nephilim will keel over
and the giant bulb will glow red. This is your cue to open up on it with
everything you have. Raznid larvae will infinitely spawn in the area and will
continuously knock you down, so you will probably have to eliminate the ones
around you before you can target the nephilim. Once the nephilim gets back up
even more hivecrafts will appear in the area. You will now need to shoot down
the green device when it appears, and if you don't have a long range weapon
it's going to be a major pain in the ass trying to play the shell game running
around getting to the hivecraft in question. Destroying the device will cause
the nephilim to fall down and expose its weak point again. This process will
repeat over and over again until you deal enough damage to it to move to phase
two of the battle.
Once you deal enough damage to the nephilim it will move to the second phase of
the battle. The nephilim will raise its hands above it and a large blue ball of
energy will appear, which will unleash an EMP blast across the battlefield.
All of your allies on the field will be incapacitated. The good news at least
is that the boss is now vulnerable and you can pretty much attack it whenever
you want. The bad news is that it has a ridiculous amount of health. Faiza will
appear with some nightcrawlers you can use, but it's not going to help much.
Some supply crates will also appear with faux energy cores you can use to
recharge your overdrive. At this point it's pretty much a battle of attrition.
The infinite raznid larvae will be replaced by infinite zombie ants. Keep
shooting until the boss is dead, which is going to take quite a while
considering the insane amount of health this thing has.

Mission 29 Return to the Caves
Credit Reward: Hardest AA Rank 70,290
Disaster AA Rank 100,109
PA-Gear: Any, although for disaster difficulty heavy striker is recommended.
Recommended HP: By the time you actually unlock the Curtain Call you'll
probably have enough health.
Weapon 1: SQ-Curtain Call (Unlock by destroying 150 harvesters)
Weapon 2: A powerful close range weapon like a shotgun.
Items: Nothing in particular. Healing if you want.
This mission demonstrates the incredible ability of the Curtain Call to shoot
missiles straight through solid walls. Basically you're going to go through
this entire mission shooting at everything with the Curtain Call as soon as the
red dots appear on the mini map. The enemies should die in a single shot each,
but on disaster difficulty they are a bit tougher which is why I recommend
using the heavy striker for double the firepower. If the ants do manage to get
close switch to a powerful close range weapon (shotguns are ideal). There are
a ton of health drops in the area so HP shouldn't be much of an issue. When you
reach the final area where the Kindred Rebellion and bomb beetles are fighting
each other you can actually wipe them all out before you get anywhere near
their location. If you're using the heavy striker you might want to use your
overdrive at the end to help you pick up all the energy gems scattered about
the area.
Mission 35 Rebellion Counterstrike
Credit Reward: Hardest AA Rank 82,170 + ~2,000 Red Gems
PA-Gear: Heavy Striker
Recommended HP: If you have the PT-Liked Super Blaster you already have enough.
Weapon 1: PT-Linked Super Blaster (Unlock on mission 36 hardest) or AE-2030
(Unlocked by destroying 2,500 storm ants)
Weapon 2: PT-Linked Super Blaster
Items: Nothing in particular.
Basically you want to take out the KR units and two beizals as quickly as
possible. Jump into the nearby car and collect the two groups of energy gems
on the map, and then exit and take out the nearby KR warmechs. Using the Super
Blaster on them is a bit overkill. You can easily take them out using a strong
assault rifle like the AE-2030. Once the night crawlers are destroyed pick up
all the energy gems and get ready for the first beizal to appear. The beizal
is invincible until it actually starts to move, so hold your fire until them.
You should have enough energy in a single Super Blaster to destroy both
beizals, but if you want to be on the safe side you can bring along two of
them. Depending on where and how they fall you should be able to pick up either
one or both of the red gem drop clusters before the mission ends. You can use
your overdrive to help get to the second drop faster with the unlimited boost.
Mission 46 Battle in the Sky
Credit Reward: Disaster AA Rank 141,000
PA-Gear: Heavy Striker
Recommended HP: You might take a hit or two from the super scourgers if you
don't block their eye beam, so I'd say about 3,000~4,000.
Weapon 1: PT-Linked Super Blaster
Weapon 2: PT-Linked Super Blaster
Items: Healing items if you want.
This misison requires a bit more work than misison 52 below, but once you get
the PT-Linked Super Blasters you can start raking in the credits. A note on the
linked blaster weapons. These weapons fire a continuous stream of energy when
fired and will continue to fire unless it's out of energy or until you switch
weapons, so you'll need to get used to hitting triangle to stop firing. Also
these weapons can't be reloaded, but as long as you aren't wasting ammo
needlessly you should have more than enough to clear the mission.
The basic procedure for this mission is the same as the one that I mentioned
in the walkthrough for this mission, but let's go over it again. Make sure to
use triangle to stop firing once the target is destroyed so you don't
needlessly waste ammo. From the start of the mission go forward and up the left
stairs in front of you. Turn around 180 and look upward. Use the blaster to
take out the raidship there. Then turn to the left and shoot down the raidship
on that side. Note that the raidship will usually drop a single raznid larvae
before you can destroy it. Now turn back to the right and head up the stairs to
the main deck of the ship. Once you get to the top turn right and head for the
rear of the ship. From here you need to destroy the raznid larvae that was
released previously before the next two ships appear. Aim carefully so you
don't waste too much ammo trying to shoot it down.
Once the larvae is dead the next two raidships will move into position. If
you're facing towards the front of the ship they would be to the upper left and
right above you. Destroy the left ship first and then the one above you. Again,
if any larvae are released you need to destroy them all before the last
raidship appears. The final raidship will move right above the center of the
ship. Once that ship is destroyed four super scourgers will appear on each end
of the aircraft strips on the sides of the ship. Destroy each scourger one at
a time. When you fire at the scourgers be sure to hold down the shield button
beforehand, as their eye beam comes out way too fast to manually block. I like
to start by going counter-clockwise from northwest, northeast, southeast, and
northeast. Once all four scourgers are gone the mission ends. Remember that
your overdrive gives you unlimited shields while it lasts, so you might want to
use it to finish off the remaining scourgers.
Mission 47 All Hail the Queen
Credit Reward: Hardest AA Rank 100,980 + ~3,000 to 4,000 Blue Gems
Recommended HP: You're going to take damage on this one. I recommend at least
4,000HP or more.
PA-Gear: Heavy Striker
Weapon 1: AE-2030 or similar (no explosive weapons)
Weapon 2: BS-Opx.N1 "Natsuko" (Unlock by destroying 200 super attack pods) or
WS-Gottfried (Unlock by destroying 90 super harvesters) or similar
weapons (again no explosives)
Items: Healing items.
The key to this mission is a small building near the starting point. Turn a
little to the right and you should see it nearby. Head straight for it from the
start. Around the corner you should see what appears to be an empty space that
kind of looks like a garage. This is where you're going to spend most of the
mission camping out in. The first queen ant that appears will probably buzz
around the area so you'll probably have to try to hunt it down outside of the
safe zone (don't get too far away). If the queen does attack you can duck back
into tha area. The acid should not go inside for the most part. Once the first
queen is dead head back into the safe zone.
You're going to spend the rest of the mission shooting away at the enemies from
the safety of this position. Note that you can still get hit by some attacks
(like the queen's melee attack and some acid shots), but you'll take far less
damage than if you were walking around outside. Since you're inside the
building there is a limited angle from which most of the enemies can attack
you, so you can just play as the human turret and blast enemies as they come
into your field of view. Obviously you should prioritize the queen ants as they
appear.
Once the number of enemies have been whittled away to a handfull, feel free to
exit the area and start collecting the gobs of energy gems in the area. Since
most of the enemies that you killed were in front of your position it shouldn't
be too difficult to collect them all unless they dropped on top of a building.
Mission 52 The Earth Ablaze
Credit Reward: Disaster B Rank 195,896 (-400 if item used)
Recommended HP: Any. Bring a healing item(s) if you want just in case.
PA-Gear: Any.
Weapon 1: MR-Super Missile: Galileo II (Unlock by destroying 200 mystic
spiders).
Weapon 2: MR-Super Missile: Galileo II
Items: PR-Sorcerer II (-400 credits). Not necessary but it makes the mission
go faster and easier. You can unlock it from mission 24 on hard.
From the start of the mission aim at the "stem" of the raznid nephilim and
fire both of the Galileo II missiles. Then immediately use the Sorcerer II
item. Turn left and head up the nearby stairs. Run along the side of the ship
to the right past the turrets until you reach the back of the railing area.
Turn left and you can see a nearby "cubby-hole" area past the railing
underneath the large radar dish. Hop over the rail into this area and turn
around to face the boss. Your Galileo II missiles should be almost ready to
fire again. Once they're both ready fire both of them into the stem of the
boss. Make sure you have a clear line of sight via the laser pointer. If you
don't see the laser pointer that means something is in your way. If you do
accidentally target a part of the ship restart the mission. Once the second
pair of missiles are launched move back into cover and lean against the wall
that's between you and the boss. At this point the boss will have taken enough
damage to move on to the next stage of the battle so all you need to do is
wait. As long as you're next to the wall the raznid larvae shouldn't be able to
hit you. In fact as long as you're in the "cubby-hole" they should have a hard
time hitting you at all. It is possible for them to shoot you (I was hit maybe
once in like a dozen tries) while you're away from the wall, but I've never
been hit when I was right next to the wall.
You can tell the second phase of the battle will start when you see the purple
glow overhead. The boss will do the EMP attack and everyone will get wiped out.
Note that the boss is invincible up until a certain point in the dialogue, so
using another sorcerer II is rather pointless and unnecessary. Just keep
waiting right next to the wall. The boss will fire at you, but the wall will
keep you completely safe. When you hear Faiza on the radio, that's your cue to
get ready to fire again. Get into position to fire at the boss. When you hear
Faiza say "Come on, Adel. My squad will lead." and Adel responds "Got it!"
that's your signal to light the boss up. Fire both Galileo II shots into the
stem and the boss is toast. Note that it is very possible that an errant raznid
larvae may fly by and get targeted instead. If that happens you'll have to
restart the mission. If done correctly you can finish this mission in about
2:30 to 2:40 with a B rank. On distaster difficulty you get 195,496 (-400 for
the sorcerer II use) which is pretty good. Also you get to cheese the final
boss to death which is even better. I used this little trick to go from level
15 to level 21 in less than a hour. It's also good for raising funds for the
exotic AA weapons as those cost on average about a million credits each.

|MIA Drones|
O----------O
In each mission (including the practice area, which has 3) you can find a drone
lying on the ground somewhere in the area. Finding a drone unlocks a symbol to
customize your PA-Gear with. In addition, the first drone you find and about
every two drones after that will unlock a new weapon in the shop. If you've
found a drone during a mission it will be indicated by an icon on the mission
select screen. The mission difficulty does not matter for finding drones, but
you do have to clear the mission for it to count as being collected.
Note: When referring to directions north can be considered to be the white
line indicated on the mini map.
Practice 1: Located right under the 200m sign on the ant target range.
Practice 2: Beyond the target range you can see a control tower up and a little
to the right beyond the wall. The drone is on top of the tower. Use the jet
lifter PA-Gear to get it.
Practice 3: Go through the crack in the wall to the northwest and in the
distance in the corner you should see a tent. Destroy the tent to find the
drone. It's best to get this one at the same time as #2 above with the jet
lifter.
Mission 1: From the start go straight ahead past the first intersection.
Right before the next intersection on the right side of the street are some
green barricades with two yellow square barricade (?) objects side by side.
Hop over the barricade to find the drone on the other side nearby.
Mission 2: The drone is on the top of the tower in the distance that looks like
the space needle. Some people recommend just blowing up the tower, but it is
actually possible to fly to the top of it using the jet lifter. To the left of
the tower nearby is a ruined building. Behind that to the right of it is
another intact building with square alcoves running along the corner of it. You
can flying along side that building and land in the alcoves to recharge. From
the top of that building you have a straight shot all the way to the top of the
tower.
Mission 3: From the start go up the hill to the second intersection and take a
right. Go straight past the intersection and you should see a park to the
right. There is a car on the street and to the right of that what looks like a
white hummer half on the sidewalk and half in the park. The drone is right
in front of the hummer.
Mission 4: From the start turn to the left and head towards the lone tree in
the distance. The drone is right under the shade of the tree.
Mission 5: Turn right and head towards the bow (front) of the wrecked ship on
the beach. In case you can't tell which part that is, it's the part facing
inland (right side of the screen) and not the part facing the ocean. The drone
is right next to the front of the ship.
Mission 6: This one is a bit tricky to find. With the white line on the mini
map representing north, you will want to head to the south end of the map
(from the beginning starting point that would be to the right). You can see in
the distance across the street from the central park several buildings in a U
shaped formation with a pile of rubble in the center of the U. Facing directly
in front of the pile of rubble there is a small alleyway behind the corner of
the U (which would be southeast on the mini map). The drone is in this alleyway
(which has graffiti on the sides of the walls). There are two ways to reach it.
If you're using the jet lifter you can simply fly over the building to reach
it. The second way is to simply run along the south side of the map (which is
out of bounds) and get there from behind the buildings. Or you could just
simply blow up the buildings with an explosive weapon and reach it that way.
Mission 7: With the white line as north head towards the very southwest corner
of the map. In the corner you should see a flag and some sandbags where the
drone is.
Mission 8: Another tricky drone to find. It's best to use the jet lifter for
this one. From the start turn right and head towards the nearby overpass. From
the top of the overpass turn left and head across the small gap. Across the gap
turn to the right where you can see a small area where you can jump into the
roof the nearby building (it's a bit of a pointed arch). The drone is on the
top of that building.
Mission 9: From the very start of the mission turn directly around and you
should see the pink drone on the ground right behind you.
Mission 10: From the start of the mission go straight forward off the building
towards the debris in the distance. Go past this debris and keep going forward
to the next group of debris in the distance. You should see a bus buried in the
sand. Behind and to the left of the front of the bus is a large chunk of a
building. Go behind it to find the drone underneath it.
Mission 11: Use the jet lifter for this one. From the start of the mission head
to the right towards the lift along the wall. Go up the wall (either using the
lift or just flying up) to the top. At the top of the lift is a small overhang
above it. The drone is on the top of the overhang.
Mission 12: Use the jet lifter for this one as well. From the start of the
mission fly towards the crack in the wall. To the right of the crack you can
see a light post. The drone is right next to it.
Mission 13: This one will take a while to get to. From the start head to the
right around the large mesa. On the opposite side you can see two small groups
of rocks on the ground (a road with a truck to the left and a tree to the
right is behind them). The drone is to the right of the rocks closest to the
road.
Mission 14: From the start of the mission head along the river to the left
until you almost reach the edge of the map. Then turn right. You should see a
fallen tree on the shore nearby. Head north past that tree and slightly to the
east. You should come across a group of three tents and some containers nearby.
The drone is in the grassy area between the group of tents.
Mission 15: During the mission you'll reach a junction where you can go in
two different directions. The arrow points to the right, but if you head left
you'll reach an area with water in it. The drone is located at the base of the
nearby small waterfall.
Mission 16: From the start head straight ahead towards the overpass in the
distance. When you reach the overpass turn left and go underneath the overpass
until you see a red truck stuck in the rubble. The drone is right next to it.
Mission 17: With the line as north head towards the northwest corner of the
map. The drone is in an area near the northwest corner. It's dark blue so it
sticks out on the sand.
Mission 18: Again with the line as north turn east from the start and head down
the street towards the three green barricades in the distance. Go past the
barricades and take the alley to the right. In the alley you should see a
dumpster to the right. The drone is right in front of it.
Mission 19: From the start turn slightly to the left and head forward towards
the ruins of an overpass in the distance. Beneath the overpass are some trash
bags where the drone is.
Mission 20: From the start take the nearby vehicle and drive directly towards
the Beizal in the distance. Keep driving past it and past the river behind it.
On the hillside beyond the river you should find a blue tent near the edge of
the map. Destroy the tent to find the drone.
Mission 21: Jump into the vehicle nearby and drive around the mesa. On the
other side you should see a gas station. The drone is right near the gas pumps.
Mission 22: From the start of the mission turn right and head around the
corner towards the green barricades in the distance. Go past them and go down
the alley on the right. Go past the chain link fence to the very end of the
alley near the street. At the corner of the map look to the right and there
should be a white parking attendant booth nearby. The drone is right behind it.
Mission 23: From the start follow the coastline to the very corner of the map.
The drone is in the water next to some floating debris.
Mission 24: From the start turn to the left and you should see a blue vehicle
nearby. The drone is right next to it.
Mission 25: This one is a bit tricky to find. In the southeast of the map next
to a tall apartment building is a dried up fountain. The drone is on the top
of the fountain. I had a bit of a hard time finding this one. If you start from
the very southeast corner of the map head north about a block, turn left and
go straight to the next intersection. Turn right there and head up a bit and
turn to the left. If the scourger beasts have wrecked the area you might have
to explore a bit to find the fountain.
Mission 26: From the start turn around and head south towards the very edge of
the map. You should see what appears to be containers with dark blue tarp and
netting on the sides. Look for one with a blue vehicle nearby. The drone is
right next to it on the crosswalk.
Mission 27: Use a jet lifter for this one to make things easier. Go up the
cliffs in front of you and head right towards the southeast corner of the map.
At the very end you should see a blue tent. Destroy the tent to find the drone.
Mission 28: I highly recommend destroying the nest first before you try finding
this drone. In the northwest of the map near the edge you'll see a construction
crane. The drone is near the base of the crane.
Mission 29: In the final cave area on the right side next to a light post and
some webbing.
Mission 30: Use the jet lifter for this one. Go through the crack in the wall
and turn to the right. The drone is near some blue containers next to the
crane.
Mission 31: From mission start go forward past the mesa and you'll see the gas
station in the distance with two trees to the right of it in the distance. Head
for the furthest tree. The drone is located in a small crater past that tree.
Mission 32: Use the jet lifter. If you look to the right of the crack in the
wall you'll see a construction crane nearby outside of the wall. The drone is
near the base of the crane, so go though the crack to reach it outside.
Mission 33: From mission start turn a bit to the right and head towards the
twin building towers in the distance. Near the edge of the map you'll see a
bicycle on the ground and the drone is next to it. The drone is a bright yellow
green color so it sticks out.
Mission 34: This one will take a while to get since it's so far away from the
mission start. Just follow the coastline to the left all the way to the end of
the map. Near the corner of the map you can see a red umbrella nearby. The
drone is right under it.
Mission 35: From mission start turn to the right and head for the street
going uphill (west going by the map). Go up the street past the next
intersection (the intersection has a cable car to the left) and then take
the next immediate left between the two buildings on that block. You should
see a light post a little past the rubble. The drone is right next to that
light post.
Mission 36: From the start turn to the right. The drone is right next to the
tree closest to the sidewalk.
Mission 37: Head for the southeast corner of the map. Near the corner is an
open grassy area between the buildings where the remains of a bomb beetle (?)
are lying on the ground (it's bright yellow and black). The drone is right next
to it holding a stop sign (I'm guessing he killed it?).
Mission 38: Use the jet lifter. From mission start turn right and fly up the
side of the excavation site (west according to the map). You should see a light
post far in the distance. The drone is on a patch of concrete right next to
the light.
Mission 39: From the start of the mission head straight down the street past
the insect corpses and the overpass. Past the overpass you should see a piece
of flaming debris on the street next to a bus stop. The drone is right in
front of the bus stop.
Mission 40: From mission start pivot to the left past the first street until
you're facing the next street after that. Head straight down that street. Near
the edge of the map you should see a gas station to the left. Between the
garage and the gas pumps there is a red umbrella. The drone is right under it.
Mission 41: Go through the tunnels until you reach the room with the first set
of supply crates. To the right of that past some blue tarps is a cage. The
drone is in that cage.
Mission 42: From mission start turn left and head north. Keep going straight
until you see the park on the right. Make a turn right and head down the street
until you reach the bus. If you turn left you can see the park wall with the
word "CRAZY" painted in yellow. The drone is to the right of the graffiti.
Mission 43: Use the jet lifter. From the start turn around and fly up the cliff
behind you. On the top to the left you should see a tree with some supplies
next to it. The drone is at the base of the tree.
Mission 44: This one is a bit tricky to get so use the jet lifter. Fly to the
back of the ship. There are two engines at the back. Fly beneath the left one
(with the back of the ship as a reference point). Directly under it is another
engine mostly underwater. The drone is right on top of the submerged engine.
Mission 45: This one is also tricky to get since the mission is at night and
it's hard to see. From mission start turn around and head south past the space
needle tower (the tower should be on your left and a pile of debris on the
right). Keep going until you can see part of a buried roadway on the right near
the edge of the map. Slightly past that turn right and you can see a light post
in the distance. The drone is right next to the light.
Mission 46: Use the jet lifter. The drone is located on a small platform behind
the main bridge of the ship. You might find it easier to first fly to the top
the circular platform behind the bridge and then jump to it. It's on the same
level with the two radar (?) sticking out on the sides.
Mission 47: From mission start turn right and head west. You should see a large
open concrete area near the beach that looks like a park. The drone is the the
area with the four circular grass planters.
Mission 48: Simply go forward from the start. You should see a light post next
to a tree with some supplies next to it. The drone is right there.
Mission 49: Turn right and get into the car nearby. Drive straight down the
road to the gas station. There is a line of cars parked across from it. The
drone is between a white truck and blue car.
Mission 50: From mission start go straight towards the overpass in
the distance. Under the overpass you should see a blue tarp on the left.
Destroy it to find the drone.
Mission 51: Use the jet lifter to make things easier for yourself. Turn right and fly towards the right part of the ship with the aircraft runway. You can see the green and red lights on the left side of it. Drop down below near that area. There should be an area beneath it next to the stairs (I think it's where those yellow energy cores stick out when they're about to fire the hexaquark cannon). The drone is in that area. Mission 52: From the start head for the very southeast corner of the map behind the ship. The drone is next to the bottom right engine of the ship if you're looking at the rear of the ship (there are four engines). It can be a bit hard to see since it's red.
