Heavy Rain Chronicles Episode 1: The Taxidermist (ver 1.0) by: Christopher Griffin *** Spoiler alert: This episode is SO short, that it would be impossible to prevent any spoilers from occurring. No attempt has been made to protect you from spoilers. However, this DLC is a disappointment after playing the full game. It does feel like a ripoff for $4.99. Since the original game had 34 playable sequences for $59.99 -- that means each scene averages out to be $1.76 each. That would have been a more appropriate price for this "add-on". My gut feeling is that this was really only developed as a bonus for pre-orders, but since it was already developed they decided they might as well sell it. [OVERVIEW]: You're Madison Paige in this add-on, and you'll be playing a single scene (for those that don't know already). The scene starts out with you riding your motorcycle in the rain on the freeway. You're speaking with "Sam", a male co-worker presumably helping you with your investigative journalism. He gives you the rundown on "The Taxidermist", a single unemployed 40-year old. After he gives you the address, you take the exit and moments later arrive in front of his house. [START]: You start out in the daytime in front of Leland's house. You can explore the front yard and doing so reveals very little except for the foreshadowing of the garage door being problematic (aka Locked and partially jammed). [RESIDENCE]: To enter the residence, you will need to walk around to the right-side of the house (opposite of the garage) and ultimately to the back. After attempting to look in the back window, Madison comments about not being tall enough. Lift up the small gasoline drum under the window. Now go back to the side of the house and push a larger drum back to the window. Once under the window, you will need to stand it up where you will then be able to open the window to gain access. [DOWNSTAIRS]: There is quite a bit to see in the house, but all of that is on the second floor. Your first warning sign that things aren't right is given to you immediately when you enter the house -- look in the kitchen drawer on the right side of the sink... women's jewelry! Be careful exploring around the living room, because several things will fall when you walk by, and you must be quick on your toes to prevent any breakage. This is actually VERY important, because Leland will notice ANYTHING out of place. This means newly broken items or items out of place -- it does not appear to include doors left open. If you want to check out the downstairs, take all the time you need. Leland will not return home until after you go upstairs and try to walk back downstairs. [UPSTAIRS]: This is where the episode takes its (unexpected?) twist. If you missed the jewelry in the kitchen, it will soon enough be obvious that this guy has LOTS of women's clothes (no cross-dressing in this episode, just women stuffed by the taxidermist). Watch out for the linen closet at the top of the stairs, if the basketball falls out, you need to put it back, or else Leland will know you're in the house. [HOMEAGAIN]: Leland will return home after you try to walk back down the stairs, so explore as much as you want upstairs, but know that you will be confronting him after you try to go back down the stairs. HELPFUL TIP: To sneak around without being heard, ever-so-lightly press R2 to walk, if you hold it all the way down you'll be heard immediately. [ENDGUIDE]: There are 5 endings, each ending is simply a screen that shows a newspaper headline stating one of the following: 1. The End of the Nightmare 2. Sacrificed in the Name of Truth 3. The End of Anguish 4. In the Middle of Horror 5. Where is Madison Paige? NOTE: All escapes are out the garage (I could never get the window to open again after entering, it might be possible, but it certainly would take a lot more effort). End of the Nightmare: Fight the taxidermist and escape. I prefer running to the garage and using the chainsaw on him. Sacrificed in the Name of Truth: Use the telephone upstairs in the bedroom and then lose (i.e. Die fighting Leland) The End of Anguish: Avoid detection, use the phone in the bedroom, and hide under the bed until the police arrive. In the Middle of Horror: This is easiest to do if you avoid detection, hide upstairs until he comes upstairs and enters a room other than the one you're in, and then sneak out of the house. To sneak out, just to go the garage and use the garage door button to escape. Where is Madison Paige?: Simple, do NOT use the phone and die fighting. That concludes this guide! Thanks for reading it!
