Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi Stories Guide Made by This_is_That Hello all, and welcome to my first attempt at a guide. Some things I would like to point out before we get started: You probably won’t actually need any help figuring out the stories on your own. They’re pretty straight-forward, usually with only one point during each scenario where you have to make a choice. One choice will get you cherry blossom petals, the other does nothing. Simple stuff. The only parts anyone might have any trouble navigating are the Adventures scenarios, where you are given quite a few paths to take. When you get to a part that gives you three options I would recommend making a save at that point. It will keep you from having to skip forward from the beginning every time you want to take a different path. The reason I made this guide is to help out those who want to collect all the petals on their first go, and to open up all the extra content in the Stories and Ephemera sections. I played through each of the stories as many times as it took to select all the options (and enjoyed every bit of it). I will try to keep things as spoiler-free as I can, because some of the stories are just adorable/hilarious, and I’m sure you’ll want to discover that on your own. Also, there is no need to play the stories for each character in the order listed in this guide. You’ll see when you start out that you have only the first Adventures scenario, but once you’ve gone through and chosen all the options almost all of the other characters’ paths will open up and you can play as you like. Kazama’s memories won’t unlock until after you take his route in the second Adventures scenario. He appears to be the only exception to the rule. And now for a bit of Q & A: Q: Why not make a guide for the main game? A: The main game has not changed through any of the other versions on the other consoles. If you need help with that part, look up Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom and check out one of the two guides under that on this website. I used them when I got the 3DS version of Hakuoki. It helped immensely, since I have a propensity for making the wrong choice and getting bad results. A candidate for MENSA, I am not. Q: Should I play through the main game before starting Stories? A: If this is your first time playing Hakuoki then I would recommend playing the main game before even thinking about touching on the stories. They contain massive spoilers. If you have played Hakuoki before, and finished all the routes, then you can hit up the Stories right from the get-go if you want. I went ahead and played through the main game again, even though I’d already done so on my 3DS. It was a good refresher, and you can appreciate the beautiful graphics better on a bigger screen. Who doesn’t want to see all that babe-candy in HD? Q: Did you know that you missed something? A: If I’ve missed something that you’ve found, please, oh please, message me and I will update the guide. I would appreciate any input in regards to mistakes I might have made, since this is the first time I’ve made a guide for anything. I will make sure to give credit where credit is due, of course. Go team! Q: Why bother with the characters without memories? A: You don’t actually have to, if you don’t feel like it. I liked all the characters in Hakuoki, so I wanted to explore all the options and learn more about them. In all honesty, their paths aren’t all that exciting, or even that informative when you think about it. Much of what you see about them was pretty easy to guess without much effort. I would highly recommend taking the options for Amagiri and Shiranui, if nothing else. Those two are fun characters, and it would be a shame not to read their stories. Q: When exactly does each level of Ephemera unlock? A: I tried to cover this a bit further on in the guide, but here is the short version: You’ll get trophies alerting you to this as you play through the Stories. There’s no specific route that unlocks the bloom levels, since you can play through the memories as you please. Just go through the stories and don’t worry about it. It happens all on its own. I’m also lazy, so I didn’t bother checking what the percentages for the blooms were as they unlocked. If anyone knows what they are and wants me to list them, let me know. I’m happy to oblige. Q: Why is this game so boring/dumb? A: Are we playing the same game? In all honesty, it is very long, with quite a bit of content, but it’s worth every minute in my opinion. If you aren’t a fan of reading then you shouldn’t play this game. Reading is the game. It’s also chock full romance. If you don’t like the sappy stuff then find something else to play. There are lots of feels up in here. Q: Which romantic interest has the best story? A: They’re all pretty awesome. It just depends on which of their personalities you like best. Some have a bit more action, while others are focused more on the romance. If I had to pick a favorite though, it would be Saito, followed closely by Harada. Saito is adorable. Disclaimer: I claim no credit for this game. It belongs, quite obviously, to the developers listed on the box. Table of contents: 1. Hijikata 1A. Shinsengumi Adventures Pt. 1 & 2 1B. Characters without memories to unlock These characters don’t really yield anything regarding the Ephemera and Bonus portions of the game, but they sort of flesh out the story a bit more. Shiranui and Amagiri were the most entertaining out of all of them, in my opinion. You can ignore this portion of the guide entirely if you wish, but I was pretty happy I went on through and chose the options I did. 11A. Inoue In the first Adventures: Help with lunch. Go with Gen. In the second Adventures, decline the mission and choose Inoue. 11B. Shimada In the first Adventures: Catch the cat. Console the child. About the boy. In the second Adventures, decline the mission and choose Shimada. 11C. Amagiri Amagiri, Shiranui, Kimigiku, and Kaoru are only accessible through the second Adventures scenario. They have no CG’s, petals, or memories, but do offer up some expansion on the story and their characters. For Amagiri, in the second Adventures: Infiltrate Shimabara. Find someone right away. Wait a little longer. 11D. Shiranui Infiltrate Shimabara. It might be nothing, but… Enjoy the evening. Maybe you should… 11E. Kimigiku Infiltrate Shimabara. It might be nothing, but… I’m worried. I need to find my father. 11F. Kaoru Infiltrate Shimabara. Write a note. Okita Help Kaoru. That’s all there is folks! Once you’ve gone through all the characters’ stories you’ll unlock one last story, but there are no choices you need to worry about making in that one. When you clear a romantic interest’s story you’ll receive a letter from them in your second gallery. The letters are very sweet, so I recommend reading each one. As far as the Ephemera goes, you’ll get trophies as you play through and collect the petals from each character. Every time this happens it means you’ve unlocked a few scenarios to go through. You don’t have any choices to make in Ephemera scenarios, but there are a few Encyclopedia entries, and there are the Sweet School Life stories to look forward to (I wish they were a bit longer, and that there were more of them, though). Once you’ve finished the Stories part of the game for every character you’ll be at 100% bloom in Ephemera. I actually got the Full Bloom trophy before I had cleared all the stories, which was a pleasant surprise. The main game appears to have no bearing on this (if you hadn’t guessed that already). If there are any other questions or comments anyone would like to go over, feel free to send me a message. Thanks for reading, and have fun! Copyright 2014 Brittany Wall
