Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires China's House of Cards by Tran There's over three hundred generals and almost a hundred cards divided among them. When you're attempting to unify China with an iron-plated fist, one of the last things you should worry about is trying to remember which of your lesser minions have which knacks. One day, you may even deign to call one of your better champions by name, but for now, all you really care about is what they can do. Table of Contents 1.1. From Helmets to Crowns 1.1. Standard Legal Boilerplate ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.0. From Helmets to Crowns ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.1. An Introduction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some people weigh things such as lives, feelings, or food when it comes to imperial management. They never mention the cards. Everything beyond the reach of your weapon revolves around cards. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.2. Getting Started ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you don't see any cards available to you right now, it's likely because you're either a wandering warrior or you're fighting for a cause greater than yourself. An easy way to solve that is to pick out a place you like and make sure people start calling you, "my liege." One possible starting point is in the northern center area of China, Luo Yang. It's a popular gathering place for would-be heroes due to it's bustling center of activities. Several roads lead into Luo Yang, and the province is loaded with merchandise and facilities. For a ruler, it's less important, as sooner or later you'll end up with all the industries you'll need. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.3. Why Use Cards? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ One of the biggest benefits of using cards is to keep your troops fit to fight, without having them rest and recruit for months. More soldiers on the field means you'll have an easier time defeating your enemy, regardless of whether or not you have allied officers fighting alongside you. Other, less attractive benefits (but still useful) are enhancing your combat prowess and preparing traps for the enemy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.0. Ruling 101 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.1. That Personal Touch ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Once you've secured a nice, comfy bastion from which to conduct your reign of terror, you'll have earned the power to administrate your empire through the use of political cards. Every lieutenant who flocks to your banner comes with a card of his own; some are pretty common, like the Last Stand. Others are normally a one-of-a-kind, and as such are generally regarded as more valuable than your run-of-the-mill Jeer card. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.2. Drawing from the Hat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Every month, you are given the chance to use a random card. Whether or not you use it, the card is going back into whatever pile it crawled out from at the end of the month. It might not even be managable for your empire's limited resources. Keep in mind that just because you may not have it next turn, doesn't mean you definitely have to use it now. Some cards may do nothing positive for you at the moment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.3. Now Meeting Four Times a Year ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You may own cards used only during the council meetings. Council meetings occur four times a year, or once every three months. You apply your resources using the cards like any other, but the effects last until the next meeting. Nothing can stop you from repeating your last council card, except by losing the support of the card-bearer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.4. Covering Your Assets ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In the lower right of your imperial desk, you'll see small purple stones to indicate the unit value of materials at your disposal. Each political card costs a certain amount of these stones, and no: you can't stockpile them from month to month. The bigger your empire, the more wealth and support you have at your disposal. If you're feeling a bit envious of the empire next door, there's always cards to help you there too. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.5. New Faces Means New Cards ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You'll need to keep in mind that you'll need new officers to apply new plans into action. Some adventurers come up to you and join your cause right away. Sometimes you might have to send out your officers to look for fresh faces. Others defect from their army into yours if you seem to be winning. Finally, you can bludgeon your rivals into submission, which I'll explain about later. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.0. A Simple Tutorial ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.1. Still Stuck? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ It looks like you're still confused. Alright, we'll walk you through a brief and short-lived war campaign. First, let's prepare our imperial battle map for a new gameplan, and we'll cover "A Land in Chaos" as our small example. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.2. Empire Mode ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You'll need a figurehead. We'll go with Cao Pi, as he is a pretty ambitious fellow. Make sure he knows he'll be posing as a ruler, and not some schmuck of an officer. For his lackies, we'll take Gao Ding, Yu Fan, and Zhuge Jin. It doesn't matter where Cao decides to start from. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.3. January 189 AD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We'll need time to prepare, and fortunately you can buy that tim right now. Have Cao initiate his plan of Victor's Sight, which will not only cost you one resource unit, but also three hundred gold from your treasury. Yu Fan has a trick up his sleeve, and can make sure no one looks your way if you apply Calm Before the Storm. Although we have other cards, we lack the manpower to use them. You can order your soldiers to invade another province if you want, but otherwise we'll talk about what happens in the next month. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.4. February 189 AD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Once February strikes, let Han Dang and his men begin the Great Search in your lands. If you feel ready with your newfound soldiers (eight thousand new recruits, not counting your new officers), set down Gao Ding's card of Jeer; otherwise, use Calm Before the Storm again along with Victor's Sight. You can also try using your random card for the month, or any of your new officers' cards. This is only a small sampling of the cards, and isn't meant to be the best possible way to unify China. From here, you should be able to take things into your hands or even begin anew. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4.0. The Appendix ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is the part which will interest pretty much everyone else. Some names are repeated in Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires, so it's not a mistake unless I read it wrong from my small non-HD television set. There's 43 officers holding the Last Stand card, and two of them are Liu Xun. All of these cards are sorted in four different ways. The first two describe the cards, and describe them either by type of card or alphabetically. I didn't see Koei naming the icons on the cards anywhere, so I labelled them as: Battle, Council, Ruler, and Support. You may want to glance through the list-by-type at least once to get an idea of the varying kinds of revival cards, attack-increase cards, and so forth so you can pick out your favorite ones. The alphabetical list will help you in learning what that unknown skill is, and finding out which officers to dump when all you can find out about your officers in the exchanging screen is that they have Struggle or Rise and Fall; and you don't remember what those cards are since you've never used them. For additional details, I've identified which empire is associated with which cards, and the title of the achievement associated with certain officers -- it's interesting to see how the card and the title relate to each other. Anything I have to say about a particular card will be added under "Note." The second two sections simply list the cards either by officer or by the name of the card. You'll want to refer to the first list if, for example, you're running Mercenary missions while planning ahead for the Ruling stage of the game. You'll want the second list if you are starting right away as a Ruler and want to know who has the cards you like. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4.1. Cost: 2 Type: Battle Empire: Wu Musou Officer: Lu Bu (Mightiest in the Land) Note: While using a level 1 custom character possessing The One and Only and armed with a level 10 Sky Piercer (Lu Bu’s weapon), I did not notice any improvement in damage. It may be there and I just missed it, but if there’s any extra power at that level, it escaped my observation. If it really does work, the card might need renaming as people might start fielding entire companies of custom Lu Bu fighters. .............................................................................. While I’m not certain, Wei Yan’s Ogre’s Charge appears to do the same damage, but at a much cheaper cost. Card: Skirmishes Description: Set the number of deployable officers to 4 each for both the player and the enemy. Cost: 3 Type: Battle Empire: Wei Officers: Cao Chun, Guo Huai, Hao Zhao, Liu Shao, Xiahou Mao Note: This can be one of the more effective Chaos mode cards, cutting down the opposition you would have to personally face. .............................................................................. Card: Countless Foes Description: When invading this month, player's Attack increases and Musou gauge slowly fills automatically. Cost: 4 Type: Battle Empire: Shu Musou Officer: Zhang Fei (Jovial Warrior) .............................................................................. Card: Fang of the Conqueror Description: Greatly increase player's Attack this month when invading. Resources will increase by 1 the following month. Cost: 4 Type: Battle Empire: Wu Musou Officer: Sun Ce (Hot Blooded) .............................................................................. Card: Alliance Description: Form an alliance with the targeted force for 3 months. Costs 500 gold. Cost: 1 Type: Council Empire: Wei Officers: Chen Jiao, Guo Jia, Wang Xiu, and Zhong Hui Note: This card costs one less resource point than Bond of Steel, but requires 500 gold. While you can forge two alliances if you have both the Wei and Shu versions, only one force will reinforce your battles at a time. Reinforcements will come regardless of how many troops you initially bring into battle; the only condition which must be met is whether or not the ally is in attack-range of the battle area. This means if you're being attacked, your ally needs to be adjacent and possess a road leading to your defending territory. If you're attacking someone else, your ally requires close proximity and a road leading to the targeted province. Reinforcements show up near the five-minute mark. I have yet to receive a prompt or the opportunity to support an ally in defense or attack. .............................................................................. Card: Benevolent Rule Description: For 3 months, increase Resources by 1. Cost: 1 Type: Council Empire: Shu Officers: Fa Zheng, Jiang Wan, and Yi Ji .............................................................................. Cost: 1 Type: Council Empire: Wei Musou Officer: Cao Ren (Bringer of Peace) .............................................................................. Card: Tyranny Description: Increase the gold received at the start of the month. Effective for 3 months. During this period, Resources will decrease by 1 at the start of each month. Cost: 1 Type: Council Empire: Other Musou Officer: Dong Zhuo (Paradise of Tyranny) .............................................................................. Card: Bond of Steel Description: Forge a 3 month alliance with the targeted force. Cost: 2 Type: Council Empire: Shu Officers: Chen Deng, Chen Gui, and Deng Zhi Note: This card costs one more resource point than Alliance, but doesn’t require any gold. Card: Levies Description: For 3 months, increase the gold received at the start of the month. During this period, Resources will decrease by 1 at the start of each month. Cost: 2 Type: Council Empire: Other Officers: Chen Lin, Dong He, Meng You, Wang Fu, Xu You, Xun Chen, and Yan Xiang .............................................................................. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Wei Officers: Deng Xian, Jia Kui, Jiang Gan, Tian Yu, and Xue Ti .............................................................................. Card: Fangs of Wu Description: Slightly increase player's Attack. Effective for 3 months, increase Resources by 1. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Wu Musou Officer: Sun Jian (Tiger of Jiang Dong) .............................................................................. Card: Long March Description: Slightly increase player's Attack. Effective for 3 months. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Shu Officers: Fu Shi Ren, Guan Xing, Liao Hua, Liu Feng, Sha Moke, Wu Lan, Xiahou Ba, Yan Yan, Zhao Guang, Zhou Cang .............................................................................. Card: Lord of Battle Description: Increase player's Attack. Effective for 3 months. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Shu Musou Officer: Guan Yu (God of War) .............................................................................. Card: New Policies Description: Increase the amount of gold received at the beginning of the month. Effective for 3 months. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Wei Musou Officer: Cao Cao (Man of Vision) .............................................................................. Card: Raging Hunger Description: Slightly decrease player's Attack when invading. However, after battle, troops will be fully restored. Effective for 3 months. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Other Musou Officer: Meng Huo (Nanman King) Note: Only the player’s troops will be fully restored; allied officers will not be affected. .............................................................................. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Wei Officers: Lu Di, Sun Deng, Xu Sheng, and Zhu Zhi .............................................................................. Card: Strong Advance Description: Increase player's Attack. Effective for 3 months. Costs 1000 gold. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Wei Officers: Bian Xi, Cao Zhang, Cao Zhen, Dian Man, Hua Xin, Lu Jian, Wang Shuang, Wen Pin, Xiahou Shang, Xu Shang, Yu Jin, Yue Jin, Zhang Qiu, and Zhu Ling .............................................................................. Card: Swift Orders Description: Shorten the recharge time between uses of special skills. Effective for 3 months. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Wei Musou Officer: Xiahou Yuan (Quick as Lightning) .............................................................................. Card: Total Preparation Description: After battling with the help of an ally, restore the troops of all officers who participated. Effective for 3 months. Costs 1000 gold. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Wei Musou Officer: Sima Yi (Master of Intrigue) Note: From what I can tell, you don’t actually need any of your officers or even an alliance to restore troops. I haven’t tested this too much, but this appears to restore half of the lost troops between your current and maximum value. (If you have no troops, it will give you half of your maximum. If you have 50% of your maximum troop number, you will end up with 75%.) .............................................................................. Card: Unseen Rules Description: Prevent any enemies from invading your territory. Effective for 3 months. Cost: 3 Type: Council Empire: Wu Musou Officer: Sun Quan (Young Tiger) Note: It costs quite a bit during the Council phase, but it’s not a bad card. While you deprive yourself of some potential experience from fighting invaders, winning the Ruler game requires you to be on the offensive, and defending just eats up more of your own time. Depending on which you’d rather have, time/land or experience/generals, it’s definitely a person-by-person basis. .............................................................................. Card: Special Strategy Description: Shorten the recovery time between uses of special skills. Effective for 3 months. Cost: 4 Type: Council Empire: Wei Officers: Cao Xiu, Hu Ban, Lu Qian, Nu Jin, Sun Li, Xiahou En, Xiahou He, Xiahou Hui, Xiahou Wei, and Xu Yi .............................................................................. Card: Balmy Breeze Description: This month, cards with a Resource cost of 3 or higher will be reduced in cost by 2. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Wu Musou Officer: Xiao Qiao (Exquisite Flower) Note: Even if you want to use just a single high-resource card, Balmy Breeze is guaranteed to save you resources. Even though it removes one resource, you can easily play five mid-level cards rather than six one- resource cards. .............................................................................. Card: Calm Before the Storm Description: No enemies will invade this month. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Wu Officers: Sun Xui and Yu Fan .............................................................................. Card: Campaign Orders Description: Increase the EXP of one of your officers. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Wu Officers: Ding Feng and Sun Lang Note: This sets the EXP value of a random officer (your Ruler included) to a single experience point below the next level. If you are level 1, you will have 999 EXP and require one more point to level up. If the officer is already at 999 from using a previous Campaign Orders, using another one doesn’t do anything. .............................................................................. Card: Chosen Description: Recruit an officer in your territory. Costs 300 gold. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Wei Officers: Cao Zhi, Chen Qun, Cheng Yu, Liu Ye, Wang Lang, and Xun Yu .............................................................................. Card: Determination Description: Increase Resources by 2 the following month. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Shu Officers: Wang Ping and Xiang Chong .............................................................................. Card: Eternal Vigilance Description: Increase Resources by 3 at the start of the following month. Costs 400 gold. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Wu Officers: Cao Rui, Dong Zhao, Jia Xu, Sima Shi, Xiahou De, Xu Shu, and Yang Xiu .............................................................................. Card: Extra Training Description: After using this card, restore troops to all officers each time an additional card is used this month. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Shu Musou Officer: Yue Ying (Brains and Beauty) Note: Every card you use in addition to Extra Training restores 20% of your officers’ soldiers. Normally, two uses per turn should be enough to keep your armies intact, as I think your allied officers consume 51% of their maximum troops per battle. If you combine this with Xiao Qiao’s Balmy Breeze, you can open up your recovery options rather than just playing any one or two-resource cards you might draw. .............................................................................. Card: Forced Production Description: Receive more of a gem in your possession. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Wu Officers: Gu Yong and Taishi Xiang .............................................................................. Card: Foundation Rock Description: Restore troops to all officers. Costs 700 gold. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Wei Musou Officer: Zhang He (Refined Warrior) .............................................................................. Card: Inner Deeds Description: After using this card, receive 300 gold for every additional card used this month. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Wei Musou Officer: Zhen Ji (Enchanting Beauty) .............................................................................. Card: Jeer Description: Provoke an attack by a surrounding force this month. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Other Officers: Chen Gong, Cui Yan, Gao Ding, Kong Rong, Ki Ru, Liu Han, Liu Yan, Liu Zhang, Ma Richan, and Yuan Xi Note: Unseen Rules and Calm Before the Storm prevents Jeer’s effect from happening, but you can still use this card. Since so many officers have this one-resource card, it can be an easy addition to the bonuses for Inner Deeds (+300 gold per card) or Extra Training (20% of maximum troops restored per card). .............................................................................. Card: Victor's Sight Description: Increase Resources by 3 in the next month. Costs 300 gold. Cost: 1 Type: Ruler Empire: Wei Musou Officer: Cao Pi (Unrivalled Ambition) .............................................................................. Card: Great Revival Description: Restore troops to all officers. Cost: 2 Type: Ruler Empire: Wu Musou Officer: Sun Shang Xiang (Tomboy of Sun) .............................................................................. Card: Pride and Duty Description: Increase player's Attack this month when invading. Resources will increase by 1 the following month. Cost: 2 Type: Ruler Empire: Wu Musou Officer: Taishi Ci (Unwavering Honor) .............................................................................. Card: Recruit Description: Recruit an officer in your territory. This means if you're being attacked, your ally needs to be adjacent and possess a road leading to your defending territory. If you're attacking someone else, your ally requires close proximity and a road leading to the targeted province. Reinforcements show up near the five-minute mark. Type: Council
Empire: Wu
Musou Officer: Sun Quan (Young Tiger)
Note: It costs quite a bit during the Council phase, but it’s not a bad card.
While you deprive yourself of some potential experience from fighting
invaders, winning the Ruler game requires you to be on the offensive,
and defending just eats up more of your own time. Depending on which
you’d rather have, time/land or experience/generals, it’s definitely a
person-by-person basis.
..............................................................................
Card: Victor's Sight
Description: Increase Resources by 3 in the next month. Costs 300 gold.
Cost: 1
Type: Ruler
Empire: Wei
Musou Officer: Cao Pi (Unrivalled Ambition)
..............................................................................
Card: Waiting Game
Description: Increase the chance of a one - on - one duel occurring this month
when invading.
Cost: 1
Type: Battle
Empire: Wei
Officers: Cao Yu, Deng Al, Li Dian, and Yin Shang
..............................................................................
Card: Whirlwind Strike
Description: Increase player's movement speed for the first 3 minutes of
battle this month, when invading.
Cost: 1
Type: Battle
Empire: Shu
Musou Officer: Huang Zhong (Seasoned Veteran)
..............................................................................
Card: Winds of Change
Description: Negate all cards currently in effect except for alliances, and
make all cards available for use.
Cost: 2
Type: Ruler
Empire: Shu
Musou Officer: Zhuge Liang (Master of Strategy)
Note: I get the impression there should be more to this card, but I haven’t
currently come up with any cost-effective combinations.
..............................................................................
Card: Wildfire
Description: When invading this month, set fire to all enemy bases that the
player enters in the first 6 minutes of battle.
Cost: 4
Type: Support
Empire: Wu
Musou Officer: Lu Xun (Rising Star of Wu)
Note: The Ruler equivalent of doing Mercenary missions comes in the form of
Wildfire. If you don’t feel like going through the missions to unlock
permanent Wildfire, you can just pick up this rather expensive card. If
you use the card version, pair it with Balmy Breeze, also from Wu.

5.0. Standard Legal Boilerplate
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As this is my first FAQ, I looked through the submission guidelines
posted on GameFAQs and it seems they'd like me to append a couple items to
this document. Amusingly enough (and since they're kind enough to say I am
welcome to use/alter their standard legal information), I'm swiping what's on
their Help section for submissions. I figure I might as well, though I feel
more silly inserting these statements than I did writing/editing/organizing
this FAQ for over twelve hours. Editing this document to meet GameFAQs'
standards took much longer than I anticipated!
