There are many questions on the forums asking about this game and i will try to answer all of them within the FAQ, if you think I have missed out anything important just email me (above) and I will try to include it if I agree. Thoose that would stand against the darkness. Thoose that ask for no reward in this life. Yet to the darkness they returned. For their time in this world was fleeting and Valhalla called to them. And the world of mortals mourned for it sensed its own demise. What was once green and fertile was now soure and barren. Thoose who were once at peace... now knew only war! For a great evil had come to Midgard... ...crawling its way up from the depths of the Underworld itself.. But even in darkest times there is still hope. For hope is stroner than any armour, any weapon... Hope waits merely for someone to embrace it. _____________________________________________________________________________ Freya tells you to become her champion, and as a blonde haired, blue eyed, square jawed, herculean Dane.. you decide its better than dying. | | -- Map 1 Nilfberg-- | | | | N01 Shaman Asta | | Press select now to bring up your map and you will see only Brighthelm, with a little hint that tells you to go speak to your shaman, Asta. She is standing a little to your right with a n orange bubble over her head that means she wants to talk to you. so go talk to her. This is probably the most sense she makes in the entire game so dont get used to it. | | N02 Chief Haral | | At this point the Ancient ruins have appeared on your map, though they arent of any use for a while. You can talk to the man near the fence and he will tell you about the Leystones in Nilfberg. Now we have to go and talk to Chief Haral.Head down the hill and turn right. Chief Haral is down the path by the barricade with some men kneeling before him (there are very few women in this game so I spose the chief has to make do). Talk to him and he will open the gates so you can leave the settlement of Brighthelm. | | N03 Hilltop Farm | | Hilltop Farm and the Gorge have now appeared on your map. At this point I recommend going through the barricade to the beach to search for Mead amongst the ships and to set some vikings free. The mead can be traded with the innkeeper for 220 gold each barrel. For collecting gold you will need most of the gold from all three islands in order to fully complete the game, though you certainly dont need all of it. At this stage in the game your elemental attacks are fairly useless so I wouldnt waste gold on them yet and would instead buy the map upgrades (available after recapturing Hilltop farm) which show the locations of all the gold on your Brisgelm so that you will more easily locate the gold as you travel around the map without having to actively search for it. Once you have these it is then best to save up for the move combos which can be learnt in the arena as these will be of more use early on. On the far west (left side of map) of the beach are three tied up Vikings. On the far east side of the same beach by the sea shore( without going back into Brighthelm) are three more tied up vikings, free them. As this game is fairly free roaming there is a choice of the order in which to attck places so you dont need to follow my strategy to the letter. Hilltop farm is my first objective which is on the left when you go outside the main gates of Brighthelm. Rather than running straight into the fray it is always a good idea to scout around the edges of your objective and pick of the few legion that are walking around on their own or in small groups as the entire group of legion can be overwhelming, especially before you have unlocked the higher combos or on the hard difficulty. Once you have deposed of the legion around the stockade then free the viking clan, if you have missed any legion these will soon be taken care of. | | N04 Miller | | The next quest will be given to you by the miller of hilltop farm. | | N05 Lost Cargo | | A cartload of goods has been ambushed and he would like you to go fetch them. As with most objectives this is marked on your map and so just highlight it and follow the white arrow. | | N06 Osgood the Shopkeeper | | The resistance you find at the cart is pathetic so once you have defeated them just deliver the cargo to Osgood the shopkeeper in Brighthelm. Near to the cart is a cave with a small band of legion and 3 more bondaged vikings. There is also a leystone directly east of hilltop farm just begging to be activated. Once you have activated the shop then if you have enough gold you can purchase the treasure maps and go looting in Brighthelm. You should easily find enough to get the first health upgrade as well. | | N07 Ancient Ruins | | Next, the Ancient Ruins more vikings are imprisoned here and they need your help, you should activate another leystone when you get close and also encounter a small group of legion in a cave with some treasure. There are many legion at the ancient ruins so you will need to be careful not to be overrun, again stealth and picking off legion is the key. I found it is also possible to sneak by the Dragon summoning stones and release the imprisoned vikings by only killing 2 or 3 of the legion there. This leaves you with the task of finding the dragon stone whilst the vikings kill the legion for you. To the north of the prison (dragon carcass?) there is a wall walk around this until you can climb up the wall, this is then simply a task of following the wall, jumping a few ledges and climbing the ivy to bring you round to the chest with the Hugin gem within. | | N08 Warrior Havelock | | Directly east of the ancient ruins is the battle arena on a peninsular jutting out to sea, you can activate it now and if you can afford it begin learning the combo moves. By the battle arena is the warrior Havelock, your next quest if you talk to the leader of the vikings at the ruins. Havelock has some legion friends but they dont put up much resistance, kill them all then return to the ruins with Havelocks helmet to pass on the good news. | | N09 Ancient Ruins | | The grateful viking will; remind you that Torv the innkeeper will buy any mead you can find, you will probably have found a few barrels by now so if you want the money now would be a good time to sell them. N.B dont accidentally walk into the sea whilst typing, you viking cannot swim. | | N10 Battle Horn | | Your almost ready for your first battle, all you need now is your fathers battlehorn (theres a big plot hole here but youll find that out later). So head up north pillaging as you go. Here you will find your first champion with his big sword, if you can it is easy her to kill his legion followers with hit and run tactics and then to try and basttle the champion. Your dodge is essential here and once you have learnt the attack patter you can try to kill it. Dodge his attacks, watching especially for his backswing and then rush in to deal damage, when he can no longer hold his sword high in the air allow him to take a swipe at you so that his sword wedges in the ground and the follow the onscreen prompts to kill him, easy. | | N11 Gorge BATTLE! | | Now sell your mead, visit the shop or arena to prepare yourself for battle then head for the gorge (select it on your map and press a, you dont need to actually go there). This is your first taste of the battle sequences which first attracted me to the game, though this is really only a skirmish compared to the others. | | N12 Arnulf | | There are 6 vikings in bondage in Slaterdale (the gorge) which need to be freed. report to leader Arnulf and he will tell you he is too scared to go through the cave so you must go through for him. | | N13 Cave | | Follow the cave and the subsequent pathn round and you will find yourself on the second island with a few legion to keep you occupied as you go. This is one of the first opportunities to kill legion by pushing them off the clif or bridges using your block attack. You will activate the clifftop Leystone when you get to the top of the far cliff. | | N14 Encampment | | Once again you will find yourself in a cave with the oppurtunity to sneak attack several of the legion, take advantage of this early on and you will soon have the achievement for killing 100 in this manner. When you reach the bottom of the cave you should receive your first cryptic message. When exiting the cave you will be warned of horn blowers, these can be very annoying later on so always try to kill then early on if you can. Once you have taken out the legion in this area then you can release another group of vikings from captivity, yay. | | N15 Drawbridge | | South of the encampment is the drawbridge leystone, activate it. Theres another small cave on the right of this leystone and the drawbridge in front of you, the cave will take a few seconds to liberate the drawbridge is then your next objective. You can jump to the side of the builing from the high cliff and climb round this in order to gain access to the drawbridge. Fight and pillage your way through these two buildings in order to lower the bridge for your fellow vikings. You will need to climb the ivy on the outside of the first building to get into the second. Once in the second lowering the drawbridge is as simple as turning the cog. | | N16 Shipwreck | | The objectives left on your map will be the quarry, Monastery and Darkwater city itself. If you walk west along the coast from the drawbridge you will find some more bondage inflicted vikings. Keep walking along the coast and the shipwreck will appear on the map, there are yet more tied up vikings west of this shipwreck. | | N17 Quarry | | The entrance to the quarry is on the north side and you will activate the quarry leystone as you get there, there are lots of legion in the quarry so take your time sneaking up on them and whitling down their numbers and if you can release the viking captives before being drawn into a skirmish. If a few legion cause you damage then pausing in your attack willl give your health a chance to recover. This will only happen when your weapons are not drawn. | | N18 Quarry Master Kell | | Once you have liberated the quarry, you will need to talk to the quarry master Kell will dictate his terms, remove the elite patrol from existance. | | N19 Ambush BATTLE! | | You should be able to do this, your second battle, now by selecting it on the map. This massacre wont take long. | | N20 Quarry Master Kell | | Return to the quarry master and he will give you some of his men. | | N21 Monastery Cave | | The monastery cave should be your next objective, northwest of the quarry, you now have the explosives to open the gate. When you find the vikings in this cave theyre quite ungrateful but join your army anyway. | | N22 Cave | | A new cave will now appear when you come out of the monastery cave, this will be your next target, the legion inside will not offer much resistance and you will be able to free the vikings easily. | | N23 Monastery | | Now head west for the monastery, you may want to be prepared for this quest, (arena, smithy, shop). Go slowly ensuring to take out the horn blower and you should get in the monastery without difficulty. You wil find two sets of vikings tied up in the monastery but they wont stay to help you. On the far left as you enter the monastery is a set of stairs, up the stairs is your target - a legion shaman. He will create legion warriors for you to slaughter. The final battle in the monastery is where a champion awaits you and yes youve guessed it - more tied up vikings, is it just me or are vikings into their bondage. Release the vikings to your left and right and theyll aid you in the fight, dont rely too heavily on them though as they will die quickly in hard mode. Nonetheless it is possible to get the perfect killer achievement here using throwing axes even on hard mode. Once youve defeated the champion and his minions you can the open the big doors behind you. The legion in the next room are easily defeated Ive found that attacking the glowing stakes causes the legion to be blown back when one is destroyed so that if your quick enough you can just focus on these stakes. | | N24 Skulbagger | | Not much left on this island, theres an encampment north east of the drawbridge and the dragon amulet. It is important to remember that once you beat the battle of darkwater you cannot return to this map, therefore if you wish to get the skulbagger 1 achievement you must do so now before the battle. Here is a good guide with pictures to this achievement, thanks to placebo79. http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63611 Before doing this it may be a good idea to activate the leystone s.east of the city so that you can get back quickly if (or when) you die. There are more tied up vikings on the right side of darkwater. | | N25 Portal | | After obtaining all the skulls you should be an expert at sneaking around now the quick route to the portal is by travelling along the ramparts as you turn left after entering the camp on the right side. | | N26 Encampment | | Once this is done go to the last remaining encampment to free the last viking clan, and then; | | N27 Dragon Amulet | | Prepare for battle by summoning your dragon back on the first island near the ancient ruins, stock up on healing potions if need be, collect any treasure if you haveyet to have purchased all available combo techniques. and then launch yourself into the battle of Darkwater, the best yet. | | N28 Darkwater BATTLE! | | Use your throwing axes to take away the first champions health 3 or 4 should do then dispatch him in the normal way, use your dragon to kill the first shaman. THen when you enter the walls repeat this process, use your elemental attacks to power up your men during the battle. Then if you go around to the back of the battlefield and kill the archers then your men will gain the advantage in the fight and you will be able to destroy the stakes and then the last shaman. In the battle against Drakan a few good hits and the last of your axes will bring him to his knees and then you can follow the onscreen prompts until the battle ends. A mortal whoose courage and honour moved Freya herself. When she choose him as her blessd champion Drakan's loyalty to Freya knew no bounds. As his conquests in her name grew, so did Drakan's affections, for it seemed to him that to look upon Freya was to look upon the face of love itself. But mortal's hearts are fragile, they are not meant to touch the divine. When Freya spurned Drakan's love and released him from his bonds, he wandered the lands in anguish. Obsession grew to madness... madness to emptiness. And that is when Hel, queen of the Underworld found him and made him her own. Hel offered him her protection and in return he would become her harbringer and lead her dark army against Midgard. For Drakan this was not only a chance to relive his former glories... but a chance for revenge. The more Drakan fought in Hel's name the further away from Midgard he grew, until he became more akin beast than man. It is said that only the giver may undo a divine blessing of immortality Yet there are weapons forged for the undoing of many things in this world... blessings, curses, even such weapons that can undo a Goddesses' will. ______________________________________________________________________________ to be continued.......
