O B J E C T I V E ____________________________________________ Your primary objective is to complete the game by successfully finishing each of the 12 episodes, comprising two or three chapters each. There are 24 missions in total. Your secondary objective (optional) is to collect all 50 archive items and all 50 weapons that are hidden throughout that game. Archive items reveal significant details about the plot and characters. _____________________________________________ 4. H I N T S & T I P S _____________________________________________ - The in-game map is fundamental to successful navigation. This guide will refer to the map in most missions, so become acquainted with its orientation and features using the in-game map help menu. Always orient your map to the north before consulting it. - Start on EASY mode and become acquainted with the layout of environments before attempting NORMAL mode. Don't attempt to retrieve archive items on NORMAL mode - it's difficult enough achieving this feat on EASY mode. - Each chapter in this guide contains detailed strategies for collecting all 50 archive items and all 50 weapons. Archive and weapon collection is optional - you can complete the game (get to the end of the story) without retrieving these items. - Some archive items are only obtainable if certain conditions are met throughout the game. Read each chapter carefully to ensure that you have met the criteria for obtaining each archive. - Some archive items will automatically 'update' as the game progresses, with extra information mysteriously appearing as the story unfolds. - Remember that it's always easier to kill a shibito from behind. Sneak up behind them and attack when they're facing the opposite direction. - Crouching characters may automatically stand after performing certain tasks, so always ensure that your character is in the crouching position again after activating switches or unlocking doorways. - Often the sightjack screen is more of a hindrance than a help, especially if you are being chased. Deactivate it (L2 BUTTON) if it becomes a distraction. - Characters may not hear spoken commands ('Come on', 'Wait', etc) unless you are within audible range. Don't stray too far from companions you're trying to protect, unless they are well hidden. - Ladders on the mine level maps are often hard to see due to their small size and the fact that text from other areas occasionally blocks them from sight. Rotate the map if you can't find the ladder you're looking for. _____________________________________________ 5. W A L K T H R O U G H ( E A S Y ) - 1 0 0 % C O M P L E T E _____________________________________________ Key map locations appear in CAPITALS. Archive items appear in [brackets]. Weapons appear in CAPITALS in [brackets]. You must read this guide thoroughly and follow the instructions to the letter in order to obtain all 50 archive items and all 50 weapons. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 1 - CHAPTER 2 _____________________________________________ Character: Howard Wright Mission objective: Escape from the police officer Archive items: The Sacred Revelations #1, Video Camera #2, Howard Wright's Student ID #3, Shuji Shimada's Police Log #4, TV Episode Proposal #5, Melissa Gale's Cell Phone #6 Weapons: shovel #25, sake bottle #39 Note: At this point in the game you cannot access the map, archives list or use the sightjack function. Use the START button to pause the game when you need to re-orient yourself. You will automatically receive [The Sacred Revelations #1], [Video Camera #2] and [Howard Wright's Student ID #3]. Turn away from the police officer and run alongside the left side of the road to the bus shelter. Beside Howard's upturned motorbike you will notice a [SAKE BOTTLE #39] on the seat of the bus shelter. Take the bottle and run up the mountain path that meets the road just before the bus shelter. Run alongside the dilapidated house, past the letter box and wait for the HIDE command to appear. Hide under the house and wait for the police officer's sightjack perspective to disappear. Turn off your torch using the DIRECTIONAL PAD, then crouch and closely follow the police officer down the slope. When he pauses at the bottom of the slope, use R1 to smash him over the head with the SAKE BOTTLE. Quickly grab [Shuji Shimada's Police Log #4], turn your torch on and return to the house before the police officer recovers. Approach the open window near the first corner of the house and climb inside. Once inside, hide in the living room cupboard beside the television. Wait for the police officer's sightjack perspective to disappear, then leave the cupboard and run forward until you hit a wall. Turn left and exit to the backyard. Retrieve the [SHOVEL #25] and club the police officer from behind to complete the mission. You will automatically receive [TV Episode Proposal #5] and [Melissa Gale's Cell Phone #6]. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 2 - CHAPTER 2 _____________________________________________ Character: Sam Monroe Mission objective: Search for the others Archive items: Sam Monroe's Faculty ID #7, Digital Video Tape #8 Weapons: mining pick #23, metal pipe #24 Note: At this point in the game you can access the map and archives list but cannot use the sightjack function. Use your map to identify buildings. You will automatically receive [Sam Monroe's Faculty ID #7]. Run forward and ascend the steps until you trigger a cutscene. Crouch using the CIRCLE button and sneak past the miner shibito by following the narrow route on your right between the fence and the MINE CARTS. Wait for the miner to remark about how great he feels, then proceed forward to the nearest blue square on the map. Retrieve the [METAL PIPE #24] from the lefthand wall. Sneak up behind the shibito near the MINING OFFICE and club her to death. Climb the ladder on the south side of the SIREN CONTROL ROOM and retrieve the [Digital Video Tape #8]. Return to the miner's location and club him to retrieve the [MINING PICK #23]. Open the door of the MINING OFFICE by smashing the lock with your weapon. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 2 - CHAPTER 4 _____________________________________________ Character: Howard Wright Mission objective: Escape to Karuwari with Amana Archive items: Mysterious Tablet #9 Weapons: frying pan #6, mallet #31, beer bottle #40, hunting trap #48 Note: At this point in the game you can learn to use the sightjack function. Follow the sightjack tutorial and crouch whilst following Amana down the slope and across the rooftops. Howard will fall through a hole in the roof and must immediately hide in the MITAMURA HOUSE cupboard to avoid detection. Sightjack the shibito who lingers outside the cupboard. Wait for her to exit the MITAMURA HOUSE, then leave the cupboard and bring up your map. Ensure that your compass is facing north, then crouchwalk out the rear door of the MITAMURA HOUSE. Reunite with Amana behind the MITMURA HOUSE, then pass through RICE SHOP 88 and hide behind the utility truck. Hold down the R2 button and focus on the MBEMBE sign that is attached to the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP. Wait for the shibito inspecting the gas bottles to turn away from your position, then crouchwalk through the front door of the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP. Behind the counter, you will find the [FRYING PAN #6] in the sink. Ascend the stairs to the upper floor and sightjack the shibito who is inspecting the gas bottles. Drop the MBEMBE sign on his head when he is adjusting the nozzle on the gas bottles. Before returning downstairs, search the northeast corner of the upper storey for the [BEER BOTTLE #40], but switch back to the FRYING PAN immediately after. Exit the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP and follow the path that runs alongside the east side of the MITAMURA HOUSE, clubbing any shibito who get in your way. Follow the steps around to the right and club the shibito who guards the WORSHIP HALL. Steal his [MALLET #31] and climb the LOOKOUT TOWER to retrieve the [Mysterious Tablet #9]. Return to the gas bottles outside the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP and reunite with Amana, who waits at the top of the steps opposite the gas bottles. Follow Amana's instructions and use the DIRECTIONAL PAD to set a [HUNTING TRAP #48] behind the shibito with the shovel. Use the DIRECTIONAL PAD to get his attention and then club him to death with the MALLET. Follow Amana to end the mission. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 2 - CHAPTER 6 _____________________________________________ Character: Sam Monroe Mission objective: Escape to Hirasakai with Melissa Gale Archive items: Mine Worker's Journal #10, Bella Monroe's Diary #11 Weapons: hand sickle #15, .38 calibre handgun #44 Note: TO OBTAIN ALL 50 ARCHIVE ITEMS, YOU MUST USE THE PHONE IN THE MINING OFFICE AND RETRIEVE THE CAN OPENER FROM THE PUMPING STATION. Allow the shibito to enter the MINING OFFICE and club her to death. Retrieve the [HAND SICKLE #15] but immediately switch back to the METAL PIPE (this weapon is stronger). Dial 508 on the phone (this number appears hand written on the phone itself) and wait for a shibito to answer. This action will cause the shibito in the PUMPING STATION to unlock the door. Follow Melissa out the rear door of the MINING OFFICE (located on the northwest side of the building) and head up the slope to trigger the cutscene in the WEST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL tunnel. Move away from the WEST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL tunnel and run across the BRIDGE. Crouchwalk toward the PUMPING STATION and activate the track switch on the righthand side of the track. Club the shibito who guards ELEVATOR A, steal his [.38 CALIBRE HANDGUN #44] and retrieve the CAN OPENER from the PUMPING STATION. Walk slowly across the BRIDGE and plant 1-2 bullets in each of the advancing shibito, using L1 to aim and R1 to fire. Remember to reload after every 6 shots by depressing both L1 and TRIANGLE simultaneously. Enter the WEST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL and look for the MINE CART at the end of the tunnel. Push the MINE CART and jump in as it gathers speed. The MINE CART will crash into the gate near ELEVATOR A, allowing you to retrieve the [Mine Worker's Journal #10]. Return across the BRIDGE to WEST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL and complete the mission by moving toward the ROAD TO HIRASAKAI. You will automatically receive [Bella Monroe's Diary #11]. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 3 - CHAPTER 2 _____________________________________________ Character: Bella Monroe Mission objective: Escape from the Saiga Hospital Archive items: Hospital Patient's Letter #12, Melissa Gale's Locket #13, Sol Jackson's Press Badge #14 Weapons: none Crouch, open the door and turn right as you step into the corridor - the shibito nurse in the NURSE'S STATION won't notice you if you remain crouched. Descend STAIRCASE B and sightjack the shibito nurse in the nearby OPERATING ROOM. Crouchwalk into the OPERATING ROOM and approach the screens until the EXAMINE command appears. At this point the nurse will move to the left to inspect the noisy heart monitor machine on your left. Quietly crouchwalk backwards out of the room and wait just outside of the doorway, so that you can still see the gap between the screens but are hidden from view. When the nurse enters the SURGERY PREP ROOM doorway, quickly crouchwalk back into the OPERATING ROOM and follow the lefthand wall to the heart monitor machine. Flip the switch and quickly crouchwalk back out of the room to your hiding place just outside the doorway. The nurse will return to investigate the noise emitting from the heart monitor machine. When she is staring directly at the machine, quickly crouchwalk back into the OPERATING ROOM and slip through the gap between the screens, ensuring that you crouch as soon as you emerge on the other side of the screens. Turn right and pass through the SURGERY PREP ROOM to the outer corridor, then descend STAIRCASE C. Crouchwalk through the basement corridor, but pause just before you reach the northeast corner of the kitchen. Sightjack the shibito nurse who lurks near the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE and wait for her to sit down at her desk (she will be looking at a desk lamp). Crouchwalk past the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE and ascend STAIRCASE A to the landing between the second and third floors, ensuring you are hidden from the view of the shibito nurse roaming the third floor corridor (both your map and the actual hospital will have numbers painted on the floors near stairwells to indicate which floor you are on). Sightjack the nurse who patrols the third floor. When she steps through the open doorway that leads to the outer balcony, quickly crouchwalk into ROOM 303 and wait beside the call button in the southwest corner of ROOM 303. When the nurse enters the NURSE'S STATION and looks at the folded paper item on her desk, quickly activate the call button and hide under the gurney in the corridor just outside of ROOM 303 (denoted by a black rectangle on your map). When the nurse enters ROOM 303 and glances at the call button and tv set, quickly crouchwalk along the corridor to the NURSE'S STATION and retrieve the [Hospital Patient's Letter #12]. Exit the NURSE'S STATION and quickly dash through the open door that leads to the outer balcony. Drop down through the square hole to the second floor. Descend STAIRCASE A to the first floor and attempt to open the RECEPTION room door. You must first retrieve the key from the INCINERATOR in the basement. Slowly descend STAIRCASE A and return to the basement, crouchwalking so as not to alert the nurse in the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE. Sneak into the INCINERATOR room and retrieve the key from the floor. Bella will accidentally bump the metal door on the incinerator and alert the nearby nurse, so quickly hide inside the incinerator and sightjack the nurse. When the nurse has returned to her desk and is looking at the desk lamp, ascend STAIRCASE A to the first floor and enter the RECEPTION room. Call for help on the PA system. You will automatically receive [Melissa Gale's Locket #13] and [Sol Jackson's Press Badge #14]. To evade Sol, quickly crouchwalk out of the RECEPTION room and descend STAIRCASE A, pausing halfway down the stairs. Sightjack the nurse in the basement and wait until she sits at her desk in the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE. Crouchwalk to the KITCHEN doorway. Crouchwalk into the KITCHEN and set the timer on the clock. Crouchwalk back to the outer corridor and wait just outside the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE doorway so that you are hidden from view. When the timer goes off, wait until the nurse enters the KITCHEN and then quickly crouchwalk through the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE to the other door on the south side of the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE. Forget stealth - quickly open the door, stand upright and sprint straight for the exit at the top of the EMPLOYEE STAIRCASE. Sol is hot on your heels - one moment's hesitation and you're dead. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 3 - CHAPTER 4 _____________________________________________ Character: Howard Wright Mission objective: Escape to Tabori with Miyako Archive items: Local Guide to Hanuda Village #15, Amana's Diary #16 Weapons: hand rake #2, brush hatchet #16, hacksaw #17, froe axe #18, garden hoe #26, garden fork #27 Note: TO OBTAIN ALL 50 ARCHIVE ITEMS, YOU MUST CLOSE THE FLOODGATE NEAR THE EQUIPMENT STORAGE. Consult your map - crouch and follow the curve of the west wall until you reach the tall tree that lies slightly north of the EAST FIELDS sign on the map. To access the tall tree you must climb the ledge at the bottom of the trunk. Scale the tree to reach the upper level where the IRAZU VALLEY CHURCH is located. Traverse the ledges and steps that comprise the path to the IRAZU VALLEY CHURCH. Descend the steps on the south side of the IRAZU VALLEY CHURCH until you end up on the west side of the IRON GATE. Consult your map and locate the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed at the west end of the WEST FIELDS. A lone shibito guards the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed, but you will have enough space to run around her and retrieve a weapon from the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed. Once you have dealt with the shibito, cycle through the available weapons: [HAND RAKE #2], [BRUSH HATCHET #16], [HACKSAW #17], [FROE AXE #18], [GARDEN HOE #26] and [GARDEN FORK #27]. Leave with the BRUSH HATCHET and move in a southeast direction through the WEST FIELDS to the IRON GATE. Open the IRON GATE with your weapon and travel through the EAST FIELDS to the small wooden bridge just south of the DILAPIDATED SHED. Take out all four shibito by approaching them from behind, then rescue Miyako from the DILAPIDATED SHED. Consult your map and make your way to the higher level northwest of the DILAPIDATED SHED. Examine the small shrine to receive [Local Guide to Hanuda Village #15]. Proceed through the EAST FIELDS and IRON GATE, felling any shibito who block your path. Pass through the WEST FIELDS and ascend the steps south of the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed. Knock over the dead tree so that it forms a bridge over the stream, then ascend the stairs to the small stone shrine. Kill the shibito who advances from the northern path, then consult your map - you will notice a small dead end path just west of the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed. Follow this path and close the FLOODGATE located at the end of the dead end. Consult your map again and end the level by escaping to the ROAD TO TABORI. You will automatically receive [Amana's Diary #16]. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 4 - CHAPTER 2 _____________________________________________ Character: Seigo Saiga Mission objective: Escape to Hirasakai with Sam Monroe Archive items: Seigo Saiga's Driver's License #17, Hanumen Noodles #18 Weapons: crowbar #28, double-barrelled shotgun #45 Note: TO OBTAIN ALL 50 ARCHIVE ITEMS, YOU MUST SHOOT THE BOWL OF HANUMEN NOODLES IN THE KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP (REMEMBER TO EXAMINE THEM FIRST). Note: Shibito locations are difficult to predict in this level, so keep your trigger-finger at the ready and proceed slowly. Remember that you can use the butt of the shotgun to take out enemies if they are too close to shoot. You will automatically receive [Seigo Saiga's Driver's License #17]. Use the [DOUBLE-BARRELLED SHOTGUN #45] to take out Sam's pursuer (zoom in/out using the D-pad up/down buttons, then descend the LOOKOUT TOWER ladder. Hide under the porch of the WORSHIP HALL and shoot the flying shibito. Descend the steps south of the WORSHIP HALL and retrieve the [CROWBAR #28] from the corpse of the shibito who was pursuing Sam. Switch back to the shotgun. Descend the steps and stand in the flooded street, defending yourself from the advancing shibito until the policeman appears near RICE SHOP 88. Shoot him and enter the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP. Examine the [Hanumen Noodles #18] on the table in the cafe downstairs, then shoot the bowl with your shotgun. Reunite with Sam. Follow the path that runs alongside the east side of the MITAMURA HOUSE, felling any shibito who get in your way. Pause halfway between the two sets of steps on the map and locate the exit point (indicated by a blue square). Slowly step forward and use your rifle sight to peer into the gloom ahead and shoot the armed shibito who guards the exit route. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 4 - CHAPTER 4 _____________________________________________ Character: Howard Wright Mission objective: Escape to Karuwari with Miyako Archive items: Altar Display #19 Weapons: iron poker #3, ashtray #4, alto recorder #7, mattress beater #8, firewood #11, bowling trophy #13, kitchen knife #21, sledgehammer #29, white guitar #34 Immediately bring up your map. Run in a counter-clockwise direction around the ITO HOUSE until you reach the pond (indicated by three black stones on the map). Club the shibito near the pond with the [IRON POKER #3] and steal her HAND SICKLE. Continue around the perimeter of the house until you arrive at the west wall of the toilet. Retrieve the [FIREWOOD #11], then switch back to the HAND SICKLE. Defeat the shibito with the [SLEDGEHAMMER #29] near the DETACHED ROOM and steal his weapon. Enter the DETACHED ROOM and retrieve the CLOSET KEY. Approach the southeast corner of the ITO HOUSE opposite the pond. Crawl under the house to escape. Once you are inside the house, move towards the STORAGE CLOSET and proceed along the hallway to the KITCHEN. Club the mother shibito and steal her [KITCHEN KNIFE #21]. Move upstairs and retrieve the BROKEN WIRE CUTTERS (B) from the SPARE ROOM. Enter the DAUGHTER'S ROOM and kill the elderly shibito. Retrieve the [ALTO RECORDER #7], [WHITE GUITAR #34] and the CLOCK WINDING KEY. Be sure to leave with the KITCHEN KNIFE in hand. Return downstairs and use the CLOCK WINDING KEY on the clock that hangs on the wall at the bottom of the stairs. Hide in the southeast corner of the KITCHEN and kill the father from behind as he leaves the FRONT STUDY and moves towards the PARENT'S ROOM. Steal the .38 CALIBRE HANDGUN from the father's corpse (it contains only 18 bullets). Retrieve the [BOWLING TROPHY #13], [ASHTRAY #4] and BEDROOM KEY from the FRONT STUDY. Make your way to the STORAGE CLOSET and retrieve the BROKEN WIRE CUTTERS (A) and enter the DEN. Use the WIRE CUTTERS to open the cupboard and receive [Altar Display #19]. Make your way upstairs and enter the BEDROOM. Escape onto the BALCONY and search for the [MATTRESS BEATER #8]. Consult your map - move in a clockwise direction around the rooftop, but ensure that you are not walking on the broken tiled area at the southern point. You can avoid this patch by carefully stepping onto the aluminum roof just beside it. Follow the rooftop route until you can see some barrels on a nearby ledge near the northwest tip of the rooftop. Jump the gap and follow this path over the DETACHED ROOM to the ROAD TO KARUWARI. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 5 - CHAPTER 2 _____________________________________________ Character: Melissa Gale Mission objective: Find a clue to the whereabouts of Bella Monroe Archive items: Seigo Saiga's Notebook #20, Yukie Kobe's Planner #21 Weapons: parking sign #5, scalpel #20, signal flare #49 You will automatically receive [SIGNAL FLARE #49]. Run forward and scale the ledge until you arrive on the second floor in ROOM 203. Open the door to the corridor to trigger a cutscene, but close it immediately afterwards. Sightjack the spider shibito who crawls along the ceiling outside ROOMS 201 and 202 (you will see these signs from the shibito's point of view). When the shibito falls to the floor, it will glance at a wheelchair and then move toward the open balcony doorway. When it sees the balcony doorway, crouchwalk out of the room and ascend STAIRCASE A to the WEST ROOF. The WEST ROOF door is locked, so you must once again wait until the shibito is advancing towards the open balcony door before descending down STAIRCASE A to the WAITING ROOM on the FIRST FLOOR. Retrieve the [PARKING SIGN #5] from the WAITING ROOM and locate the EXAM ROOM. Note: the spider shibito in this level will only remain incapacitated for few seconds until the shibito brain has been destroyed, so be vigilant and strike swiftly. You can use signal flares to evade their attacks, but often it's easier to simply attack them with your weapon. Enter the EXAM ROOM and club the spider shibito. Retrieve the ROOF KEY and ensure that you lock the spider shibito in the EXAM ROOM after you exit. Return to STAIRCASE A and ascend the stairs to the WEST ROOF. Approach the broken railing on the WEST ROOF to trigger a cutscene. Drop down onto the EAST ROOF and descend STAIRCASE C. Turn left at the bottom of the stairs and retrieve [Seigo Saiga's Notebook #20] from the RESEARCH LAB. Move along the SECOND FLOOR to STAIRCASE B to trigger another cutscene revealing the shibito brain. Crouchwalk down STAIRCASE B to the FIRST FLOOR, kill the spider shibito and enter the ELEVATOR. Ride the ELEVATOR to the BASEMENT. Club any shibito who get in your way and hunt down the shibito brain, who should be hiding at the bottom of the EMPLOYEE STAIRCASE. Kill the nurse shibito to retrieve the [SCALPEL 20#], but swap back to the PARKING SIGN immediately afterwards. Ride the ELEVATOR back to the FIRST FLOOR and enter the SURGERY PREP ROOM. Sightjack Seigo's point of view and you should see a phone with the number 201 on the dial. Dial this number to complete the mission. You will automatically receive [Yukie Kobe's Planner #21]. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 5 - CHAPTER 4 _____________________________________________ Character: Amana Mission objective: Recall lost memories Archive items: Mana Cross Brooch #22, Engraved Plank #23 Weapons: hot water pot #9, noodle cleaver #19, dagger #22 Crouchwalk and follow the wandering shibito to the WORSHIP HALL, always maintaining a reasonable distance behind her. Follow her down into the tunnels under the WORSHIP HALL but remain concealed at all times. Once the three shibito have congregated around the underground altar, return to the WORSHIP HALL and retrieve a SIGNAL FLARE. Drop the SIGNAL FLARE into the WELL outside the WORSHIP HALL, then hide inside the cupboard in the WORSHIP HALL. When the three shibito run past to investigate the disturbance, return to the tunnels under the WORSHIP HALL and retrieve the [Mana Cross Brooch #22] from the altar. Arm yourself with a BEER BOTTLE from the ground and return to the WORSHIP HALL. Amana must now use her sightjack ability to recall lost memories. When Amana is in the vicinity of a lost memory, she will experience a shimmering sensation of sound and colour. The first lost memory in the WORSHIP HALL involves a map that reveals the location of the MITAMURA HOUSE. Sneak up behind the shibito near the LOOKOUT TOWER and beat her down from behind. Fight your way to the rear of the MITAMURA HOUSE to retrieve the [DAGGER #22] from the clutches of a female shibito. Enter the ground floor of the MITAMURA HOUSE and use sightjack to recover the memory of '(name)'. Note: any one of a selection of random names may appear at this point, each relating to a particular grave in the GRAVEYARD. Be sure to note which name appears as it will be useful later on. Fight your way to the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP and retrieve the [HOT WATER POT #9] and [NOODLE CLEAVER #19] from the ground floor cafe. Arm yourself with the NOODLE CLEAVER. Move in a southerly direction until you reach the shoreline, then follow the cliff face to the GATEWAY. Use sightjack to recover the memories of the symbols and glyphs that comprise the GATEWAY seals. These two images correspond with the seals found in the tunnels under the WORSHIP HALL and in the GRAVEYARD. Note: at this point you will need to copy to paper the details of the seals as they appear in the vision. Be sure to note whether the left or right seal is surrounded by a zig-zag line or dots. Once this task is performed, return to the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP. Ascend the steps beside the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP and move onward to the GRAVEYARD. Use sightjack in the GRAVEYARD to reveal the location of the hidden seal, buried under one of the graves. The correct grave will correspond with the name you intuited in the MITAMURA HOUSE. There's a little bit of trial and error involved here, but persevere and you'll get there. Once the seal is exposed, identify whether it has a zig-zag inner circumference or dotted inner circumference (the seal in the GRAVEYARD is dotted). You must turn the outer and inner rings of the seal (using the controller thumbsticks) until the inner circle of the seal resembles the picture of the seal you recorded earlier from the GATEWAY. One of four different symbols can occupy each of the thirds of the inner circle. The four elemental symbols resemble leaves (eight dots), wind (three curved lines), water (swirling or curling lines) and a combination of all three designs. The left thumbstick controls the alternating rotation between two symbols, while the right thumbstick allows you to swap to another apir of symbols. Again, trial and error and a lot of patience pay off. When you have the right combination of symbols in the centre circle, press X to break the seal. Before leaving the GRAVEYARD, inspect the northern-most grave twice to reveal [Engraved Plank #23]. Return to the WORSHIP HALL via the roof of the HARAYADORI BUS SHELTER. Break the seal on the altar under the WORSHIP HALL. Your final task is to battle your way back to the GATEWAY, located at the southern tip of the village. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 6 - CHAPTER 2 _____________________________________________ Character: Howard Wright Mission objective: Take out the pursuer Archive items: Holy Scroll - The Gift #24, The Gojaku Giant #25, Sam Monroe's Notebook #26 Weapons: none You will automatically receive [Holy Scroll - The Gift #24]. Ascend the steps and turn left, locating the MINE CART. Push the MINE CART and jump in, riding it all the way to the SIREN CONTROL ROOM. Pass through the MINING OFFICE and ascend the slope behind the MINING OFFICE. Retrieve the SLEDGEHAMMER that lies halfway up the slope. Turn into the WEST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL and defeat the spider shibito that lurks in the tunnel. Ride the MINE CART along the BRIDGE and knock down the armed shibito in EAST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL. Steal his SHOTGUN, return across the BRIDGE and descend the slope to the MINING OFFICE. Descend the stairs in the MINING OFFICE, turn on your torch and turn on the ELEVATORS. Return upstairs to the MINING OFFICE and enter the SIREN CONTROL ROOM. The key to activate the siren is missing, so pass through the MINING OFFICE again, ascend the slope to the BRIDGE and enter EAST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL. Ride ELEVATOR A down to EAST SHAFT LEVEL 5. Consult your map and climb down the ladder that lies just ahead in the left fork. Approach the edge of the CENTRAL SHAFT and drop down to LEVEL 2. Slowly make your way toward EAST SHAFT LEVEL 2 and snipe the shibito with the SHOVEL. Take the SIREN KEY from his corpse and move down the tunnel toward WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2. Use shells or the butt of your gun to take out the spider shibito in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 - he hides in the south alcove. Climb up the ladder closest to ELEVATOR C and move toward WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4, shooting the spider shibito on the ceiling near the STAIRCASE. Ascend the stairs branching off WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4 to emerge in the MINING OFFICE and ascend to ground level. Use the SIREN KEY in the SIREN CONTROL ROOM and then quickly pass through the MINING OFFICE again, heading up the slope at the rear of the MINING OFFICE to the BRIDGE. Be careful of the spider shibito who moves down the slope to the MINING OFFICE (the siren attracts the spider shibito, so be alert and strike them down with the butt of your gun when they appear). Cross the BRIDGE into EAST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL and shoot the lone shibito who lurks near ELEVATOR A. Ride ELEVATOR A down to EAST SHAFT LEVEL 5, then climb down the ladder that lies just ahead in the left fork. Approach the edge of the CENTRAL SHAFT and drop down to LEVEL 2. Slowly make your way toward EAST SHAFT LEVEL 2 and snipe the shibito with the SHOVEL. Steal his SHOVEL and sprint down the tunnel toward WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 - you must move quickly and return to the unconscious shibito before he regains consciousness, otherwise he'll end up with your SHOTGUN. Climb up the ladder closest to ELEVATOR C and move toward the ladder at the end of WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4. Climb up the ladder and examine the wall opposite the ladder to receive [The Gojaku Giant #25]. Quickly climb back down the ladder so that you emerge in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4. Locate the ladder just before ELEVATOR B and climb down it so that you emerge in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2. Sprint past the CENTRAL SHAFT and retrieve your SHOTGUN from the corpse of the shibito. Return to WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 and enter the dead end path closest to ELEVATOR C. Shoot the shibito brain suspended from the ceiling - this action will incapacitate all the spider shibito. Climb up the ladder closest to ELEVATOR C and run towards EAST SHAFT LEVEL 4. Climb the ladder in EAST SHAFT LEVEL 4 and then ride ELEVATOR A to the surface. Sightjack Seigo and determine where he is hiding, either on the BRIDGE or near the MINING OFFICE on the lower level. Drop him with a few shotgun shells to the head. If he spots you, simply retreat into EAST SHAFT LEVEL UPPER for protection. You will automatically receive [Sam Monroe's Notebook #26]. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 6 - CHAPTER 4 _____________________________________________ Character: Bella Monroe Mission objective: Reach the Irazu Valley Church Archive items: Miyako Offering Hymn #27 Weapons: none Note: The shibito will NOT attack you in this level, no matter how closely you interact with them. Consult your map and orient it towards north. Descend the northern steps and drop down the ledges until you arrive at the edge of the waterway. Locate the hole in the fence (above the 'n' in 'EQUIPMENT STORAGE') and drop down into the dry river bed. Run to the east along the dry river bed and pass under the bridge. Locate the set of steps that branch off from the dry river bed and ascend them to retrieve [Miyako Offering Hymn #27], located near the small shrine on the upper level. Return to the dry river bed and proceed to the EAST FIELDS. Locate the IRON GATE and make your way there. As you pass through the IRON GATE, turn right and ascend the steps to the IRAZU VALLEY CHURCH. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 7 - CHAPTER 2 _____________________________________________ Character: Howard Wright Mission objective: Reach the Nest Core Archive items: 8mm Film Reel #28 Weapons: walking crutch #32, splitting axe #37, sawn-off shotgun #46 Note: You will begin the mission with the [SAWN-OFF SHOTGUN #46]. There are only two shells in your shotgun and two enemies to defeat, so shoot these first two targets at close range, one shell for each enemy. Remain where you are until a shibito emerges from behind THE LUCKY TRIANGLE on your right, then follow him and shoot him when the thunder strikes (the noise of the thunder will conceal your gunfire). Retrieve the [SPLITTING AXE #37] from the corpse, then switch back to your shotgun. Crouchwalk up the stairs behind THE LUCKY TRIANGLE and shoot the sniper on the roof. Jump down off the roof and retrieve the MINING PICK from the shelves near the front entrance of THE LUCKY TRIANGLE. Consult your map and use the MINING PICK to break through the wooden planks nailed across the exit route doorway (indicated by a blue square). Enter the building and move upstairs, defeating the shibito on the stairwell. Step through the outer doorway on the upper storey and wait on the exposed roof for a shibito to appear. Beat him down and steal his [WALKING CRUTCH #32], then switch back to the MINING PICK. Face west and jump the gap, entering the next covered building. Consult your map and make your way to the dwelling on the west side of the map, until you arrive in a room with a noisy television set. Note: If you happen to cross paths with the shibito brain at this stage (he has a wasp body for a head) don't confront him, or you will be unable to retrieve the next archive item. Just ignore him and allow him passage. He patrols the area around the ABANDONED HOUSE. Exit through the opposite door and drop down to ground level. Wait outside the ABANDONED HOUSE for two flying shibito to appear, then take them out with the MINING PICK. Approach the west end of the SOZUKA BRIDGE and sightjack the talking shibito who sits on the roof of the 33 YEN SHOP. His gaze will sweep between the middle of the SOZUKA BRIDGE and the UPPER ARATO TUNNEL. As he begins to turn away from your location, quickly crouchwalk to the southern corner of the 33 YEN SHOP. Turn the LEVER by the soda machine to extend the awning. Now that you are concealed from the talking shibito's view, make your way around the 33 YEN SHOP to the barrels on the northeast side. When the talking shibito is looking towards the SOZUKA BRIDGE, climb the barrels, crouchwalk across the rooftop and kill him. Steal his DOUBLE-BARRELLED SHOTGUN and climb back down the barrels to street level. Opposite the 33 YEN SHOP lies the IRAZU BUS STOP. Ascend the steps on the northeast side of the IRAZU BUS STOP and follow the path around the back of the TAKEMOTO HOUSE - make haste, as an armed flying shibito patrols the air. Enter the rear entrance of THE LUCKY TRIANGLE and shoot the winged shibito who sits inside the restaurant. Examine the countertop opposite the sink to retrieve the [8mm Film Reel #28]. Return to the rear of the TAKEMOTO HOUSE and climb the barrels to the rooftop. Return to the IRAZU BUS STOP, then climb the structure outside the UPPER ARATO TUNNEL to end the mission. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 7 - CHAPTER 4 _____________________________________________ Character: Howard Wright Mission objective: Drive away the Shibito Brain Archive items: Fortune Can #29, Holy Scroll - Ouroboros #30 Weapons: wrench #1 Crouchwalk onto the BUS, travel down the aisle and retrieve the [WRENCH #1] from the small room located at the northeast corner of the bus (the WRENCH is sitting outside at the rear of the BUS on the exterior northeast corner). There are three spider shibito in the area that you must take out with the WRENCH - be vigilant, as they could be anywhere. Make your way toward the small alleyway on the west side of the RENAISSANCE GROCERY. Climb the barrels to the rooftop, then proceed through the only white doorway on the map. Climb the ladder and wait near the lamp post - a band of four spider shibito crawl about the roof and will descend as you venture down the next corridor, so proceed slowly and keep your back to the wall. Once they have been dealt with, pass through the next doorway and push the soda machine in front of the doorway, effectively trapping the spider shibito inside. Consult your map and follow the path to the LOOKOUT TOWER. From the top of the LOOKOUT TOWER you will notice the maggot shibito on your right. Bring up your map and regard the lower level containing TOMIZO'S CIGAR STORE and the SMOKESTACK. Your destination is the SMOKESTACK, so basically drop down to the lower level and try to outwit the maggot shibito by taking any path that she isn't blocking. You can run in a circle around both buildings in the centre of the map, providing you scale the ledges to reach the upper levels. Climb the SMOKESTACK ladder to trigger a cutscene. After the cutscene, step forward a little and take out the closest shibito, then wait for shibito Sam to appear. Once you have defeated him, search his corpse for the CAN OPENER. Once you have the CAN OPENER, consult you map and locate the lower level that contains TOMIZO'S CIGAR STORE. Note the location of the small rectangular object on the east side of TOMIZO'S CIGAR STORE - this small refrigerator contains the next archive item. Drop to the ground and try to evade the maggot and spider shibito as you attempt to access the refrigerator and the [Fortune Can #29]. Once you have opened the FORTUNE CAN, make your way back to the SMOKESTACK and climb it once more. When you reach the top, face east and drop to the roof below. Make your way to the STOREHOUSE on the ground level and use the WRENCH to break the padlock. You will automatically receive [Holy Scroll - Ouroboros #30]. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 8 - CHAPTER 2 _____________________________________________ Character: Sol Jackson Mission objective: Reunite with any survivors Archive items: Atlantis Magazine #31 Weapons: nail hammer #10, video camera #30, hunting rifle #47 NOTE: TO OBTAIN ALL 50 ARCHIVE ITEMS, YOU MUST BREAK THE SAKE BOTTLE IN WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 AND RETRIEVE AND USE THE PUMPING STATION KEY. Descend the ladder and trigger the cutscene in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4. Crouch at the bottom of the ladder in the northern corner at the end of WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4. Sightjack the shibito who patrols the tunnel ahead. He will approach Sol, but not notice you if you remain crouched with your torch off. As he turns away, follow him at close range and climb down the ladder just before ELEVATOR B. Locate the power box on the wall in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 (denoted by a small dot on the map) and turn the lights off. Hide in the alcove opposite the power box and wait for the armed shibito to investigate the light box. As he moves past your location into WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2, crouchwalk out of the alcove and head towards EAST SHAFT LEVEL 2. Investigate the stairwell and retrieve the [VIDEO CAMERA #30]. Climb the stairs and sneak up on the shibito woman who watches over the CENTRAL SHAFT. Knock her into the pit, then retrieve her [NAIL HAMMER #10]. Switch back to the VIDEO CAMERA and descend the stairs so that you arrive in EAST SHAFT LEVEL 2. Defeat the shibito with the MINING PICK, then steal the MINING PICK. Run down the tunnel to WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 and enter the small alcove near ELEVATOR C. Kill the shibito and steal his SAKE BOTTLE. Smash the SAKE BOTTLE on the wall to retrieve the PUMPING STATION KEY (you may have to try more than one bottle to find the key). Switch back to your MINING PICK and sightjack the shibito who patrols the level above you near ELEVATOR B. Climb halfway up the ladder closest to ELEVATOR C and wait for the shibito to pass your location and move towards the STORAGE ROOM. As he unlocks the door, sneak up behind him and kill him. Retrieve the [Atlantis Magazine #31] from the STORAGE ROOM. Sightjack the armed shibito in EAST SHAFT LEVEL 4 - he is looking toward the MINE CART in EAST SHAFT LEVEL 4. Sneak up behind him and kill him. Steal his [HUNTING RIFLE #47] and make your way up the ladder in EAST SHAFT LEVEL 2. Approach ELEVATOR A to trigger the cutscene. As Sam, crouchwalk past the shibito guard and ascend the stairs to the MINING OFFICE. Quickly run through the MINING OFFICE and up the slope at the rear of the building, emerging on the BRIDGE. Turn into WEST SHAFT LEVEL UPPER and ride the MINE CART to defeat the armed shibito on the BRIDGE. Steal the HUNTING RIFLE and return across the BRIDGE, down the slope to the MINING OFFICE. Descend the stairs to the lower level and shoot the shibito guard in the back of the head. Power on the ELEVATORS. As Sol, ride ELEVATOR A up to EAST SHAFT LEVEL UPPER and enter the PUMPING STATION. Turn the pump on, then snipe the armed shibito on the BRIDGE. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 8 - CHAPTER 4 _____________________________________________ Character: Melissa Gale Mission objective: Escape to Karuwari with Bella Monroe Archive items: JOYLiNK - Ultra Network King #32, Seigo Saiga's Drawing Book #33 Weapons: chamber pot #41, fluorescent bulb #42, whiskey bottle #43 NOTE: TO OBTAIN ALL 50 ARCHIVE ITEMS, YOU MUST TURN THE VALVE ON THE WATER TANK AND RETRIEVE THE KEY FROM THE DRAIN PIPE AT THE END OF THE LEVEL. Note: Shibito locations are difficult to predict in this level, so keep your wits about you and remain armed at all times. Consult your map. You must run from ROOM 303 to the exterior balcony behind ROOM 301. Once there, drop through the square hole in the floor to access the exterior balcony on the second floor. Retrieve the SAKE BOTTLE and wait out of sight on the west side of ROOM 202. Sightjack the nurse who patrols the second floor. She will pause outside ROOM 205 and look at the B on the wall, then turn and advance down the corridor to STAIRCASE C. The second she leaves her position outside ROOM 205 and moves towards STAIRCASE C, crouchwalk along the corridor to STAIRCASE B and descend the stairs. Crouch outside the second (mens) RESTROOM door and sightjack the shibito nurse in the PHARMACY. She will look out over the WAITING ROOM, then return to the boarded window. When she turns towards the boarded window, crouchwalk to the glass doors in the WAITING ROOM to trigger a cutscene. Use the SAKE BOTTLE to defeat the nurse if she spots you. After the cutscene, leave Bella in RECEPTION and crouchwalk down STAIRCASE A, but remain hidden on the lower steps so that you cannot be seen from the basement. Sightjack the shibito nurse who patrols the basement. As she turns into the KITCHEN, quickly crouchwalk into the INCINERATOR ROOM and retrieve the IRON POKER. Kill the nurse, then proceed to the POWER ROOM and turn the power on. After the cutscene with Sol, run up STAIRCASE C and proceed through the SURGERY PREP ROOM and OPERATING ROOM to the first floor. Ascend STAIRCASE B and defeat Sol, then return to the first floor via STAIRCASE A. Sightjack Bella to reveal her hiding spot, as she may be in any number of locations (RESTROOMS, LOCKER ROOM, BASEMENT CORRIDOR CUPBOARD, etc...). Once you have found Bella, run to the INCINERATOR in the basement and instruct Bella to hide in the INCINERATOR. This action will retrieve the [JOYLiNK - Ultra Network King #32]. Command Bella to hide in the INCINERATOR again. Defeat the shibito nurse in the basement to retrieve the [CHAMBER POT #41] Note: you must strike her down first, land the first blow. Otherwise she may shatter this rare weapon - on your face. Investigate the LOCKER ROOM to retrieve the [FLUORESCENT BULB #42]. Once you have retrieved the items in the basement, return to the first floor via STAIRCASE A and retrieve the [WHISKEY BOTTLE #43] from the men's RESTROOM urinal. Move up STAIRCASE A all the way to the WEST ROOF and climb up the ledge to access the WATER TANK - look out for the shibito nurse on the third floor. Turn the valve and return down STAIRCASE A to the second floor. Enter ROOM 203 and escape out the window, dropping to the courtyard below. Remove the PARKING SIGN from the entrance and retrieve Bella from the INCINERATOR in the BASEMENT. Before returning to the first floor and exiting out FRONT GATE, lead Bella out of the building to the DIRECTOR'S OFFICE. A cutscene will reveal a key item. Once this cutscene has played, you may exit via the FRONT GATE. You will automatically receive [Seigo Saiga's Drawing Book #33]. _____________________________________________ EPISODE 9 - CHAPTER 2 _____________________________________________ Character: Melissa Gale Mission objective: Help Bella Monroe escape Archive items: Howard Wright's Cell Phone #34, Cigarette Lighter #35 Weapons: water ladle #12, umbrella #14 Consult your map and follow the northern path away from the IRAZU VALLEY CHURCH. Jump down the ledge, then turn left onto the roof of the FUEL STORAGE shed. Drop to the ground and select the FROE AXE. Examine the northern corner of the FUEL STORAGE shed for [Howard Wright's cell Phone #34]. Note: this random item may also appear at the southwest corner of the DILAPIDATED SHED. Crouch and sightjack the armed shibito on the ledge above you. When he moves away from your location with the small shrine on his right, cross the small wooden bridge and head towards the DILAPIDATED SHED. Keep checking the sniper's viewpoint to ensure that you are hidden by the embankment. Defeat the two female shibito near the DILAPIDATED SHED and move through the EAST FIELDS to the IRON GATE. Command Bella to wait out of sight on the east side of the IRON GATE and sightjack the male shibito who gazes at the IRAZU VALLEY CHURCH. When he is ascending the steps towards the church, attack him from behind and then finish off his female companion. Retrieve the [WATER
LADLE #12]. Switch back to the FROE AXE and make your way through the
WEST FIELDS to the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed.
After the cutscene, yell at the maggot shibito and climb up the ledge to the
EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed - this will draw her away from Bella. Retrieve the
[UMBRELLA #14] from the corner of the shed. Stand at the northeast corner of
the shed and climb onto the roof, luring the maggot shibito onto the roof
with you. She has a long reach, so keep well back.
When she is on the roof, note the location of the three fuel barrels (they
appear on the map as three black dots). You must approach each of the three
fuel barrels and tip them over to create a pool of flammable liquid. If the
maggot shibito moves towards Bella, simply yell at her again to draw her
away. Once all three barrels have been knocked over, use the lighter to
ignite the fuel, ending the level - and Melissa.
You will automatically receive the [Cigarette Lighter #35].

EPISODE 9 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Seigo Saiga
Mission objective: Help Bella Monroe escape and acquire the Ancient Book
Archive items: Mitamura Family Album #36, Strange Tales of Gojaku #37
Weapons: scythe #35, broadaxe #38

Note: Shibito locations are difficult to predict in this level, so keep your
trigger-finger at the ready and proceed slowly. Remember that you can use the
butt of the shotgun to take out enemies if they are too close to shoot.

You must snipe the three shibito who pursue Bella: Sol will advance from
Bella's left - aim well, zoom in and fire. Follow Bella to the right with the
rifle sight and target the flying shibito before he descends. The final
shibito will appear on Bella's right.
Once Bella is safe, climb down the LOOKOUT TOWER and sprint down the path to
the flooded street level below. Zoom in and shoot the policeman who walks
towards the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP, then snipe the shibito who walks towards
you, coming from the direction of the utility truck - steal his [BROADAXE
#38], then switch back to your SHOTGUN. Run through the ground floor of the
KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP to trigger the next sub-mission.
Consult your map and note the location of the MUTSUI HOUSE backyard on the
south side of the MUTSUI HOUSE. Bella is trapped there by two flying shibito,
so take the path between RICE SHOP 88 and the MITAMURA HOUSE to save her -
shoot the enemies while they are air borne. Sometimes they revive, so be
vigilant. Once Bella is safe (you will be notified by a sub-mission notice),
she will run to safety independently.
Enter the MITAMURA HOUSE and ascend the stairs. Open the cupboard and
shoot the abomination to retrieve the WORSHIP HALL KEY. Step out onto the
balcony and drop down onto the tin roof. Step to the weak point on the right
and fall down into the MITAMURA HOUSE living room. Examine the [Mitamura
Family Album #36] on the space heater in the corner.
Step outside into the flooded street and locate Sol and the [SCYTHE #35],
either by sightjack or searching the area. Once you have updated your
weapons, follow the path alongside the MITAMURA HOUSE to the WORSHIP HALL.
Defeat the shibito who guards the WORSHIP HALL. Enter the WORSHIP HALL and
examine the bookcase in the northern corner of the room to end the level.
You will automatically receive [Strange Tales of Gojaku #37].

EPISODE 10 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Bella Monroe
Mission objective: Escape from Tabori
Archive items: Bermuda 3 Record #38, Spool Knitter #39, Insect Catching Kit
#40, Hanuda Beetle #41
Weapons: none

NOTE: TO OBTAIN ALL 50 ARCHIVE ITEMS YOU MUST COMPLETE THIS MISSION WITHOUT
DYING ONCE. IF YOU FAIL AT ANY POINT YOU MUST START AGAIN. YOU WILL BE
UNABLE TO OBTAIN CERTAIN ARCHIVES IN FUTURE MISSIONS IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE
THIS MISSION IN ONE ATTEMPT. YOU CAN OF COURSE COMPLETE THE GAME AND FOLLOW
THE STORY TO ITS CONCLUSION WITHOUT COLLECTING THESE ARCHIVES, BUT YOU CANNOT
OBTAIN ALL 50 ARCHIVE ITEMS UNLESS YOU COMPLETE THIS MISSION WITHOUT DYING.

Note: this is possibly the most difficult mission in the entire game, so pay
close attention to the instructions. They are very specific and timing is of
the greatest importance. I would recommend that you forget about retrieving
archive items on your first attempt, as this level is hairy enough without
worrying about the ridiculously tight timing required to obtain the archives.
You can always return to complete this level once you are more familiar with
the movements of the family and the layout of the house.

Wait for the father shibito to rise and leave the room. The second he
disappears around the corner, exit the cupboard and crouchwalk after him.
He will ascend the stairs and follow the passage to the BEDROOM. You
however will ascend the stairs at a safe distance and enter the SPARE ROOM.
Hide in the cupboard and catch your breath.
Sightjack the father shibito - he will be checking on the grandfather shibito
lying on the floor in the BEDROOM. Wait for the father to deposit the BEDROOM
KEY in the SPARE ROOM. He will be overcome by a crippling bout of diarrhea
and race to the toilet downstairs. Quickly steal the BEDROOM KEY and return
to your hiding spot in the cupboard.
Sightjack the daughter shibito who is drawing in the DAUGHTER'S BEDROOM.
Eventually she will get up and leave her room. The second she reaches the
bottom stair on the ground floor, leave the cupboard and crouchwalk to the
BEDROOM door at the end of the second floor hallway. Unlock (but do not
enter) the BEDROOM door. Instead, enter the DAUGHTER'S BEDROOM.
Quickly retrieve the [Spool Knitter #39] from the northeast corner of the
room, then hide in the cupboard. Sightjack the daughter and wait for her to
return to her desk.

Note: if you are not collecting archive items, just steal the BEDROOM KEY and
scroll down to the next asterisk.

Note: sometimes the mother and daughter shibito will obstruct each other in
the ground floor hallway (an irritating glitch that should have been
rectified before the game was released). The only way to overcome this
problem is to carefully follow the father downstairs and wait for him to
enter the FRONT STUDY. You must then sneak along the ground floor hallway a
short way and yell in the direction of the two females to reset their patrol
patterns. You must then race back to your hiding spot upstairs in the
DAUGHTER'S BEDROOM cupboard without getting caught by all three shibito!
It is possible though.

When the daughter returns to her desk she will turn on the cassette player.
Sightjack the father shibito and wait until he is outside the DAUGHTER'S
BEDROOM (be wary - sometimes he checks in on the daughter unexpectedly, but
that's usually on his first trip back upstairs). You must quietly exit the
cupboard at this point and stand so that you are facing the open cupboard
door that lies to the left of your hiding spot. The daughter will not notice
you or hear you due to the loud music.
Ensure that the 'HIDE' command appears at the top of the screen. Use the
D-PAD to bring up the 'Yell' command. Press the 'Yell' command, but
immediately cancel the action by pressing the X button ('Hide') just as Bella
raises her hand to her mouth. This swift action will alert the daughter but
allow Bella enough time to hide without getting caught. The timing for this
feat is incredibly tight, so it may take some practice.

Note: if you get caught, you must start again from the beginning of the level
if you want to earn all 50 archive items. You can however complete this
mission and the game without collecting any archives.

Bella's yell will startle both father and daughter. Both shibito will begin
to search for the intruder on the second floor. The daughter will leave the
room, followed by the father. The second the father leaves the DAUGHTER'S
BEDROOM, exit the cupboard and quickly crouchwalk to the opposite side of the
desk. Examine the cassette player to get [Bermuda 3 Record #38]. Crouchwalk
back to the cupboard and hide.

						*

Wait until both father and daughter shibito are downstairs before leaving the
cupboard and entering the BEDROOM (the room next to the DAUGHTER'S BEDROOM).
Crouchwalk along the southern wall to the open window on the east wall. Don't
cross the centre of the room or you'll disturb the elderly shibito. Exit the
window, climb onto the roof and drop to the ground outside.

Note: if you are not collecting archive items, just exit the FRONT GATE and
scroll down to the next asterisk.

Run around the house to the DETACHED ROOM and retrieve the CLOSET KEY. Make
sure you leave the DETACHED ROOM door open.
This next task is also quite hairy and requires expert timing. Locate the
DOORBELL beside the ENTRANCE. Once you have memorised its location,
sightjack the daughter and father and ensure they have both just recently
returned upstairs. Consult your map and hide at the southwest corner of the
FRONT STUDY, so that you are concealed from view by the small wooden fence.
When the father and daughter are both upstairs, ring the DOORBELL and return
to your hiding spot at the southwest corner of the FRONT STUDY (on the
exterior side of the building of course). Sightjack the mother - she will
leave the house via the KITCHEN door to investigate the noise.
The mother will study the FRONT GATE, then look directly at you - fortunately
you are concealed by the fence. The second she turns away, crouchwalk after
her and enter the KITCHEN (be careful: don't make the mistake of trying to
open the panel beside the DOORBELL - the ENTRANCE doorway is sealed).
Crouchwalk into the main ground floor hallway, but once you reach the bottom
of the staircase, run like the clappers to the STORAGE CLOSET and retrieve
the [Insect Catching Kit #40] that lies directly ahead as you open the door.
Sprint back to the bottom of the staircase, then crouchwalk out through the
KITCHEN. Hide on the east side of the FRONT STUDY and take a moment to
compose yourself - you're nearly done, and if you've made it this far,
you'll most likely complete the rest of the mission without any trouble.
Wait for the mother to return to the KITCHEN, then examine the large tree
trunk in the southeast corner of the yard beside the pond. Use the INSECT
CATCHING KIT, then complete three circuits of the house while waiting for the
trap to snare a victim. When you return to the tree, you will discover the
[Hanuda Beetle #41]. You should also receive a message confirming that you
have met all the conditions to unlock the archive in 'Episode 11 Chapter 4'.
Well done.

						*

Your final task is to escape to the ROAD TO KARUWAI. Step through the front
gate, but as Melissa advances, about-face and run between the DETACHED ROOM
and the KITCHEN, making your way to the northeast corner of the ITO HOUSE.
Melissa will lock the FRONT GATE. You must sightjack Melissa and attempt to
unlock the FRONT GATE whenever she steps away from it. Use the TRIANGLE
button to unlock the gate. Melissa will hear you picking at the lock every
time you attempt to open it, so watch her movements carefully and always plot
an escape route in the opposite direction. If you remain at the FRONT GATE
for too long Melissa will catch you, so open the gate in stages. Melissa's
movements are very erratic and fast, so stay sharp and be patient.

EPISODE 10 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Break the four seals
Archive items: UMA World Encyclopaedia #42
Weapons: none

NOTE: To obtain the archive item in this level, you must pass through
specific areas. Follow the guide carefully.

Consult your map - crouchwalk alongside the eastern wall, over the small
bridge and into the DILAPIDATED SHED. Retrieve the three HUNTING TRAPS,
then command Miyako to hide. Crouchwalk outside and lure the closest
shibito into a HUNTING TRAP. Grab her HAND SICKLE as she struggles, then
kill her. Another shibito will hear the commotion, so take her down as well.
Sightjack the flying shibito who hovers above the area. Quietly leave the
DILAPIDATED SHED when the flying shibito is facing the opposite direction,
ensuring that you close the door behind you. Race back over the small bridge
to the tall tree in the west.
Scale the tree to the upper level and retrieve the GARDEN HOE from the small
shrine on your left. Examine the carrots and hunting trap on the ground and
set a HUNTING TRAP at this site.
Follow the path to the IRAZU VALLEY CHURCH. Sneak up behind the flying
shibito perched on the side of the church and kill him (if he's not air
borne). If he manages to evade you, retrieve the .38 CALIBRE HANDGUN
(conatins 36 bullets) from the mana cross at the south corner of the church
to make the job easier.

Note: as you pass the church, you should hear Jackalope Man moving through
the bushes.

Descend the southern steps, run through the WEST FIELDS to the EQUIPMENT
STORAGE shed and chase after the shibito brain, a male shibito wearing a
white singlet - stay on his heels and you'll corner him eventually near the
large fallen tree near the FUEL STORAGE. When he is dead, all flying shibito
will become temporarily incapacitated.

Note: as you cross the fallen tree bridge, you should hear Jackalope Man
moving through the bushes.

Turn off the FLOODGATE in the small dead end nook just west of the EQUIPMENT
STORAGE shed. Return through the WEST FIELDS and IRON GATE to the EAST
FIELDS, then rescue Miyako from the DILAPIDATED SHED.
Once you are reunited with Miyako, climb to the upper level northwest of the
DILAPIDATED SHED and break the SEAL OF THE LION.

Note: as you climb the ledge to the SEAL OF LION, you should hear Jackalope
Man moving through the bushes.

Follow the path alongside the riverbed to the FUEL STORAGE.

Note: as you cross the small bridge, you should hear Jackalope Man moving
through the bushes.

Return to the DILAPIDATED SHED and step onto the small bridge just south of
your location. Drop down into the river bed and move west to break the SEAL
OF THE BULL.
Consult your map and ascend the steps to the small stone shrine where you
lay the HUNTING TRAP. You should hear the trap snap shut as you mount the
steps. Examine the blood on the ground near the trap to receive [UMA World
Encyclopedia #42].
Consult your map and follow the path past the IRAZU VALLEY CHURCH to the IRON
GATE. Break the SEAL OF MAN near the IRON GATE.
The final seal, the SEAL OF EAGLE, lies beyong the WEST FIELDS. Travel past
the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed and move up the slope toward the ROAD TO TABORI -
you can't miss it.

EPISODE 11 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Seigo Saiga
Mission objective: Acquire the Uryen
Archive items: Gojaku Mural #43, Sam Monroe's Voice Recorder #44
Weapons: bolt cutters #33

NOTE: BEFORE YOU CAN OBTAIN THE ARCHIVE ITEM/S IN THIS LEVEL, YOU MUST
COMPLETE EPISODE 8 CHAPTER 2 (TURN THE PUMP ON IN THE PUMPING STATION).

Note: Shibito locations are difficult to predict in this level, so keep your
trigger-finger at the ready and proceed slowly. Remember that you can use the
butt of the shotgun to take out enemies if they are too close to shoot.

You will begin this mission with 32 shotgun shells - use them wisely.
Shoot the nurse shibito (the shibito brain) who advances down the tunnel.
Take the north path just before the BRIDGE and descend the slope to the
MINING OFFICE. Descend the stairs in the MINING OFFICE and examine the
control panel. The FUSE is missing and must be found before you can power up
the ELEVATORS.
Descend the stairs to WEST SHAFT LEVEL FOUR and crouchwalk through the
tunnel. Snipe the shibito with the MINING PICK near ELEVATOR B and proceed
forward to the blue square on your map near the CENTRAL SHAFT. Retrieve the
FUSE and return to WEST SHAFT LEVEL FOUR.
A cutscene will reveal that your passage is now blocked. Approach the CENTRAL
SHAFT and drop off the ledge to LEVEL 2. Ascend the ladder in WEST SHAFT
LEVEL 2 until you arrive in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4. Ascend the stairs to the
MINING OFFICE.
Return the FUSE to the control panel and power up the ELEVATORS. The nurse
shibito will advance from the upper floor, so be wary.
Return downstairs to WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4 and descend the ladder near ELEVATOR
B. Activate ELEVATOR C in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2. Drop down the elevator shaft
after the malfunctioning elevator until you arrive in LEVEL 1.
Consult your map and locate the steps that lead down to CENTRAL SHAFT LEVEL
1. The resident maggot shibito will kill you if you attempt to retrieve the
URYEN at this stage, so remain out of his field of vision and sightjack him.
When he is walking away from the steps, crouchwalk down to CENTRAL SHAFT
LEVEL 1 and quickly retrieve the WOODEN STAKE from the small wooden crate,
sitting in the debris on the southeast wall.
Return up the steps to ELEVATOR B before the maggot notices you.
Ride ELEVATOR B up to LEVEL 4. Wait for the shibito to unlock the ELEVATOR
door, then club him to death. Steal his [BOLT CUTTERS #33] and then switch
back to your SHOTGUN. Retrieve the DYNAMITE DETONATOR from the STORAGE ROOM.
Descend the ladder near ELEVATOR B and defeat the spider shibito in WEST
SHAFT LEVEL 2. Move down the south dead end passage in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 and
use the DYNAMITE DETONATOR to reveal [Gojaku Mural #43].
Climb the ladder near ELEVATOR C, kill the spider shibito in WEST SHAFT LEVEL
FOUR and then ascend the stairs to the MINING OFFICE. As you approach ground
level in the MINING OFFICE, a siren will sound.
A sniper on the roof of the SIREN CONTROL SHACK will take shots at you, but
you can escape through the back door of the MINING OFFICE and up the hill to
WEST SHAFT LEVEL UPPER - don't pause near the BRIDGE though, or a second
sniper will have you. Run to the west end of WEST SHAFT LEVEL UPPER and ride
the MINE CART into the sniper on the BRIDGE. Enter EAST SHAFT LEVEL UPPER and
ride ELEVATOR A down to LEVEL 5 (you will of course have to wait for the
shibito brain to finish using the ELEVATOR).
You are now on LEVEL 5. Shoot the spider shibito near the ladder, then
descend the ladder and jump into the nearest MINE CART. Ride the MINE CART
into the shibito brain and drive the STAKE through her chest. Now the maggot
shibito in CENTRAL SHAFT LEVEL 1 is incapacitated.
Drop down the CENTRAL SHAFT to LEVEL 2 and climb the ladder near ELEVATOR C
until you emerge on LEVEL 4 - look out for the shibito with the BOLT CUTTERS.
Ride ELEVATOR B down to LEVEL 1. Follow the stairs down to the maggot's lair
in CENTRAL SHAFT LEVEL 1 and ascend the ladder on the far side of the pit to
reach the exit point.
You will automatically receive [Sam Monroe's Voice Recorder #44].

EPISODE 11 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Enter the Nest Core with Bella Monroe
Archive items: Audio Cassette Tape #45
Weapons: none

NOTE: BEFORE YOU OBTAIN THE ARCHIVE ITEM/S IN THIS LEVEL, YOU MUST COMPLETE
EPISODE 10 CHAPTER 2 AS BELLA MONROE, WITHOUT DYING DURING HER MISSION AND
COLLECTING ALL FOUR ARCHIVE ITEMS.

Command Bella to wait, then race over the north side of THE LUCKY TRIANGLE.
Retrieve the METAL PIPE from under the stairs. Return to Bella and knock the
flying shibito the ground.
Instruct Bella to follow you and send her through the gap in the wall,
indicated by the blue square on the map. Break through the wooden planks
nailed across the doorway and step into the house. Retrieve Bella from the
bathroom.
Move upstairs and step out onto the exposed roof. Club the spider shibito who
attacks from your left, then move southeast into the structure. Send Bella
through the hole in the cupboard and return to the exposed rooftop where you
fought the spider shibito. Face west and jump the gap, climbing into the next
dwelling. Retrieve Bella from the room with the fan.
Step out onto the exposed roof and consult your map to reveal your next
destination, the room with the two white doors. As you move through the
narrow corridor you may be attacked by a lone spider shibito.
You will arrive in a room with a noisy television. Step through the other
door and drop down the ground.
Enter the east door of the ABANDONED HOUSE and instruct Bella to hide in the
cupboard in the central room. Activate the BAG-O-LAUGHS hanging from the
light and wait for two spider shibito to enter the room. Club them both,
retrieve Bella and leave the ABANDONED HOUSE, closing all doors behind you.
Approach the west end of the SOZUKA BRIDGE and command Bella to wait.
Sightjack the flying shibito brain perched on the roof of the 33 YEN SHOP
(it is looking at the IRAZU BUS SHELTER). Sprint along the north side of the
SOZUKA BRIDGE, aiming for the southern corner of the 33 YEN SHOP. Turn the
LEVER by the soda machine to extend the awning and retreat under the roof on
the southwest side of the shop. If the shibito brain saw you, don't panic -
just remain out of sight and it will return to its original position in no
time.
Remaining concealed from the flying shibito brain's view, make your way
around the 33 YEN SHOP to the barrels on the northeast side. Quietly climb
the barrels, crouchwalk across the rooftop and kill him. Climb back down the
barrels to street level and retrieve Bella.
Ascend the steps beside the IRAZU BUS STOP and follow the path around the
back of the TAKEMOTO HOUSE. Enter the rear entrance of THE LUCKY TRIANGLE and
examine the hole in the floor, just outside the toilet. If you did everything
correctly in earlier chapters, Bella should perform a minor miracle to
retrieve [Audio Cassette Tape #45].
Return to the rear of the TAKEMOTO HOUSE and climb the barrels to the
rooftop, ensuring that you assist Bella with the climb. Return to the IRAZU
BUS STOP, then climb the structure outside the UPPER ARATO TUNNEL to end the
mission.

EPISODE 12 - CHAPTER 2

Character: Sam Monroe
Mission objective: Discover the truth
Archive items: Message from Sam Monroe #46, Legends of Hanuda Village #47
Weapons: none

NOTE: BEFORE YOU CAN OBTAIN THE ARCHIVE ITEM/S IN THIS LEVEL, YOU MUST
COMPLETE EPISODE 8 CHAPTER 4 AND RETRIEVE THE KEY FROM THE DRAIN PIPE.

You will automatically receive [Message from Sam Monroe #46].
Melissa has now transformed in a maggot shibito. Immediately after the
cutscene, run straight towards her and dart to the left around the front of
the bus. Enter the bus and run down the central aisle. Retrieve the WRENCH
from the small room located at the northeast corner of the bus (the WRENCH is
sitting at the rear of the BUS on the exterior northeast corner).
Consult your map and locate the white door to the east of the RENAISSANCE
GROCERY. Run to this room and attempt to open the door. The door is firmly
locked, but if you run southwest past the RENAISSANCE GROCERY, a cutscene
will solve the problem. Now you can retrieve the [Legends of Hanuda Village
#47] from the table in the formerly locked room.
Melissa will try to grab you through the doorway. Wait until she pauses
between lunges, then dart past her on her left side.
Run to the small alleyway on the west side of the RENAISSANCE GROCERY. Climb
the barrels to the rooftop, then proceed through the only white doorway on
the map. Once again, you must press the TRIANGLE button to unlock the door -
if Melissa closes in, abandon the task and return to the ground level. Try
again when you have some distance between you.
Climb the ladder and consult the map - there is only one route to the LOOKOUT
TOWER, but you must be swift. Scale the LOOKOUT TOWER and jump the gap to
the east.
Consult your map and you will notice the rooftops are peppered with
television antennae. You must arm yourself with an antenna and use it to
harpoon Melissa, who now terrorises the lower level. You must hit Melissa
three times to defeat her. The antennas aren't very good long range weapons,
so wait until Melissa is nearby before throwing them.
Once you have an antenna in hand you can't move, only swivel on the spot. If
you cancel the move or get hit by flying debris, you will lose the antenna.
Their numbers are finite, so make every shot count.
If you fall to the ground level during the battle, bring up your map and
locate the three barrels situated in the southwest corner of the ground
level. Scale the barrels to return to the rooftops.
Melissa will attempt to knock you down by hurling various pieces of debris at
you, so use the map to anticipate your next location and keep moving at all
times. The best strategy is to run along the southern rooftops, alternating
from the west end to the east end, firing just one antenna from each
location. This will give you time to aim and avoid Melissa's projectiles.
Once the battle is over, your task becomes even more arduous. You must kill
a swarm of scampering spider shibito and protect Bella at the same time.
Retrieve the shotgun at your feet and locate the ladder on the map (near the
three barrels). Scale the ladder and step into the middle of the roof. Aim
your gun in Bella's direction and shoot the spider shibito who threaten her.
Try to pop them as they scale the walls and keep an eye on those that revive.
Defend yourself with the butt of the gun if you are attacked from behind.
Don't get distracted though - your primary concern is to protect Bella.
Once all the spider shibito are dead the level will end.

EPISODE 12 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Defeat Kaiko
Archive items: Arcane Homuranagi Scroll #48, Sam Monroe's Journal #49,
Portable Music Player #50
Weapons: homuranagi #35, uryen #50

The final boss battle comprises four stages:
STAGE 1: Stand on the spot and quickly snipe Seigo three times in the head,
even if he fires back. If you succeed in this task, an archive item will
visibly drop from his person. Avoid his first sword attack, then run to his
original position to retrieve [Arcane Homuranagi Scroll #48].
Once you have the scroll, run to the opposite end of the battlefield and put
some distance between the two of you. Wherever he is, shoot him as he closes
in on you - you don't need to go looking for him, he'll find you. Always
dodge his sword attack and never let him get too close. Once you have pumped
him with a few shells, Miyako will give you the [URYEN #50].

STAGE 2: Use the uryen like a gun - L1 to aim, R1 to fire. The uryen will
cause a blast of energy to rain down from the heavens about ten to fifteen
feet in front of you, so time your attacks well. If Seigo gets caught in the
blast, he's toast.

STAGE 3: This part of the battle is somewhat trippy and psychedelic (he
understated). Kaiko will appear and rip you into another dimension, a world
of mirrors and illusions.
Miyako will speak to you and encourage you to adopt her perspective through
sightjack. Follow her advice and locate the relic, a shining object that will
appear on the right side of the screen. Press SQUARE to lock-on to this
view, then run to the relic and press X when 'Purge in fire' appears at the
top of the screen.

STAGE 4: Now that the relic has been destroyed Kaiko becomes more vulnerable.
Lock-on to Miyako's perspective again and focus on the action on the right
side of the screen. Use the uryen to cause a blast in front of Kaiko, then
use SQUARE to slice into the blast, causing a shock wave to spread out and
engulf Kaiko in holy fire. Once you have done this several times, Kaiko will
fall into pieces and Miyako will instruct you to use the uryen on Kaiko one
last time, so press L1 to aim and R1 to fire.
You will automatically receive [Sam Monroe's Journal #49] and [Portable Music
Player #50].

Congratulations - you've completed Siren Blood Curse on EASY mode.

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Escape from the police officer

Note: At this point in the game you cannot access the map, archives list or
use the sightjack function. Use the START button to pause the game when you
need to re-orient yourself.

Turn away from the police officer and run alongside the left side of the road
to the bus shelter. Run up the mountain path that meets the road just before
the bus shelter.
Run alongside the dilapidated house, past the letter box and wait for the
HIDE command to appear. Hide under the house and wait for the police
officer's sightjack perspective to disappear.
When the coast is clear, approach the open window near the first corner of
the house and climb inside. Once inside, hide in the living room cupboard
beside the television. Wait for the police officer's sightjack perspective
to disappear, then leave the cupboard and run forward until you hit a wall.
Turn left and exit to the backyard.
Retrieve the [SHOVEL] and move alongside the house, hugging the wall. Club
the police officer from behind by wedging yourself between the police officer
and the house the second he crashes through the wall.

Character: Sam Monroe
Mission objective: Search for the others

Note: At this point in the game you can access the map and archives list but
cannot use the sightjack function. Use your map to identify buildings.

Run forward and ascend the steps until you trigger a cutscene. Crouch using
the CIRCLE button and sneak past the miner shibito by following the narrow
route on your right between the fence and the MINE CARTS. Wait for the miner
to remark about how great he feels, then proceed forward to the nearest blue
square on the map.
Retrieve the [METAL PIPE] from the lefthand wall. Sneak up behind the
shibito near the MINING OFFICE and club her to death. Open the door of the
MINING OFFICE by smashing the lock with your weapon.

EPISODE 2 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Escape to Karuwari with Amana

Note: At this point in the game you can learn to use the sightjack function.

Follow the sightjack tutorial and crouch whilst following Amana down the
slope and across the rooftops. Howard will fall through a hole in the roof
and must immediately hide in the MITAMURA HOUSE cupboard to avoid detection.
Sightjack the shibito who lingers outside the cupboard. Wait for her to exit
the MITAMURA HOUSE, then leave the cupboard and bring up your map. Ensure
that your compass is facing north, then crouchwalk out the rear door of the
MITAMURA HOUSE. Reunite with Amana behind the MITMURA HOUSE, then pass
through RICE SHOP 88 and hide behind the utility truck.
Hold down the R2 button and focus on the MBEMBE sign that is attached to the
KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP. Wait for the shibito inspecting the gas bottles to turn
away from your position, then crouchwalk through the front door of the
KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP. Behind the counter, you will find the [FRYING PAN] in
the sink.
Ascend the stairs to the upper floor and sightjack the shibito who is
inspecting the gas bottles. Drop the MBEMBE sign on his head when he is
adjusting the nozzle on the gas bottles.
Return downstairs to the gas bottles outside the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP and
reunite with Amana, who waits at the top of the steps opposite the gas
bottles. Follow Amana's instructions and use the DIRECTIONAL PAD to set a
[HUNTING TRAP] behind the shibito with the shovel. Use the DIRECTIONAL PAD
to get his attention and then club him to death. Follow Amana to end the
mission.

Character: Sam Monroe
Mission objective: Escape to Hirasakai with Melissa Gale

Allow the shibito to enter the MINING OFFICE and club her to death.
Follow Melissa out the rear door of the MINING OFFICE (located on the
northwest side of the building) and head up the slope to trigger the cutscene
in the WEST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL tunnel.
Move away from the WEST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL tunnel and run across the BRIDGE.
Crouchwalk toward the PUMPING STATION and activate the track switch on the
righthand side of the track. Club the shibito who guards ELEVATOR A and steal
his [.38 CALIBRE HANDGUN].
Walk slowly across the BRIDGE and plant 2-3 bullets in each of the advancing
shibito, using L1 to aim and R1 to fire. Remember to reload after every 6
shots by depressing both L1 and TRIANGLE simultaneously.
Enter WEST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL and complete the mission by moving toward the
ROAD TO HIRASAKAI.

EPISODE 3 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Bella Monroe
Mission objective: Escape from the Saiga Hospital

Crouch, open the door and turn right as you step into the corridor - the
shibito nurse in the NURSE'S STATION won't notice you if you remain crouched.
Descend STAIRCASE B and sightjack the shibito nurse in the nearby OPERATING
ROOM. Crouchwalk into the OPERATING ROOM and approach the screens until the
EXAMINE command appears. At this point the nurse will move to the left to
inspect the noisy heart monitor machine on your left. Quietly crouchwalk
backwards out of the room and wait just outside of the doorway, so that you
can still see the gap between the screens but are hidden from view.
When the nurse enters the SURGERY PREP ROOM doorway, quickly crouchwalk back
into the OPERATING ROOM and follow the lefthand wall to the heart monitor
machine. Flip the switch and quickly crouchwalk back out of the room to your
hiding place just outside the doorway.
The nurse will return to investigate the noise emitting from the heart
monitor machine. When she is staring directly at the machine, quickly
crouchwalk back into the OPERATING ROOM and slip through the gap between the
screens, ensuring that you crouch as soon as you emerge on the other side of
the screens. Turn right and pass through the SURGERY PREP ROOM to the outer
corridor, then descend STAIRCASE C.
Crouchwalk through the basement corridor, but pause just before you reach the
northeast corner of the kitchen. Sightjack the shibito nurse who lurks near
the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE and wait for her to sit down at her desk (she will
be looking at a desk lamp).
Crouchwalk into the INCINERATOR room and retrieve the key from the floor.
Bella will accidentally bump the metal door on the incinerator and alert the
nearby nurse, so quickly hide inside the incinerator and sightjack the nurse.
When the nurse has returned to her desk and is looking at the desk lamp,
ascend STAIRCASE A to the first floor and enter the RECEPTION room. Call for
help on the PA system.
To evade Sol, quickly crouchwalk out of the RECEPTION room and descend
STAIRCASE A, pausing halfway down the stairs. Sightjack the nurse in the
basement and wait until she sits at her desk in the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE.
Crouchwalk to the KITCHEN doorway. Crouchwalk into the KITCHEN and set the
timer on the clock. Crouchwalk back to the outer corridor and wait just
outside the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE doorway so that you are hidden from view.
When the timer goes off, wait until the nurse enters the KITCHEN and then
quickly crouchwalk through the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE to the other door on the
south side of the ADMINISTRATION OFFICE. Forget stealth - quickly open the
door, stand upright and sprint straight for the exit at the top of the
EMPLOYEE STAIRCASE. Sol is hot on your heels - one moment's hesitation and
you're dead.

EPISODE 3 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Escape to Tabori with Miyako

Consult your map - crouch and follow the curve of the west wall until you
reach the tall tree that lies slightly north of the EAST FIELDS sign on the
map. To access the tall tree you must climb the ledge at the bottom of the
trunk. Scale the tree to reach the upper level where the IRAZU VALLEY
CHURCH is located. Traverse the ledges and steps that comprise the path to
the IRAZU VALLEY CHURCH. Descend the steps on the south side of the IRAZU
VALLEY CHURCH until you end up on the west side of the IRON GATE.
Consult your map and locate the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed at the west end of
the WEST FIELDS. A lone shibito guards the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed, but
you will have enough space to run around her and retrieve a weapon from the
EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed - the [BRUSH HATCHET] is recommended.
Move in a southeast direction through the WEST FIELDS to the IRON GATE.
Open the IRON GATE with your weapon and travel through the EAST FIELDS to the
small wooden bridge just south of the DILAPIDATED SHED. Take out all four
shibito (if need be) by approaching them from behind, then rescue Miyako from
the DILAPIDATED SHED.
Proceed through the EAST FIELDS and IRON GATE, felling any shibito who block
your path. Pass through the WEST FIELDS and ascend the steps south of the
EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed. Knock over the dead tree so that it forms a bridge
over the stream, then ascend the stairs to the small stone shrine. Kill the
shibito who advances from the northern path, then consult your map - you will
notice a small dead end path just west of the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed. Follow
this path and close the FLOODGATE located at the end of the dead end.
Consult your map again and end the level by escaping to the ROAD TO TABORI.

Character: Seigo Saiga
Mission objective: Escape to Hirasakai with Sam Monroe

Note: Shibito locations are difficult to predict in this level, so keep your
trigger-finger at the ready and proceed slowly. Remember that you can use the
butt of the shotgun to take out enemies if they are too close to shoot.

Use the [DOUBLE-BARRELLED SHOTGUN] to take out Sam's pursuer (zoom in/out
using the D-pad up/down buttons, then descend the LOOKOUT TOWER ladder. Hide
under the porch of the WORSHIP HALL and shoot the flying shibito.
Descend the steps south of the WORSHIP HALL and stand in the flooded street,
shooting any shibito in the area. Be extra wary of the armed shibito
policeman in RICE SHOP 88. Enter KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP and reunite with Sam.
Follow the path that runs alongside the east side of the MITAMURA HOUSE,
felling any shibito who get in your way. Pause halfway between the two sets
of steps on the map and locate the exit point (indicated by a blue square).
Slowly step forward and use your rifle sight to peer into the gloom ahead and
shoot the armed shibito who guards the exit route - even if he plugs you a
few times, you should be able to down him while he reloads.

EPISODE 4 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Escape to Karuwari with Miyako

Immediately bring up your map. Run in a counter-clockwise direction around
the ITO HOUSE until you reach the pond (indicated by three black stones on
the map). Club the shibito near the pond with the [IRON POKER] and steal
her [HAND SICKLE]. Continue around the perimeter of the house until you
arrive at the DETACHED ROOM. Defeat the shibito inside the DETACHED ROOM by
attacking him from behind, then steal his [SLEDGEHAMMER].
Approach the southeast corner of the ITO HOUSE opposite the pond. Crawl
under the house to escape.
Once you are inside the house, move towards the STORAGE CLOSET and proceed
along the hallway to the KITCHEN. Club the mother shibito to death. Move
upstairs, enter the DAUGHTER'S ROOM and kill the elderly shibito. Retrieve
the CLOCK WINDING KEY.
Return downstairs and use the CLOCK WINDING KEY on the clock that hangs on
the wall at the bottom of the stairs. Hide in the southeast corner of the
KITCHEN and kill the father from behind as he leaves the FRONT STUDY and
moves towards the PARENT'S ROOM. Retrieve the BEDROOM KEY from the FRONT
STUDY and make your way upstairs to the BEDROOM.
Escape onto the BALCONY and consult your map - move in a clockwise direction
around the rooftop, but ensure that you are not walking on the broken tiled
area at the southern point. You can avoid this patch by carefully stepping
onto the aluminum roof just beside it. Follow the rooftop route until you can
see some barrels on a nearby ledge near the northwest tip of the rooftop.
Jump the gap and follow this path over the DETACHED ROOM to the ROAD TO
KARUWARI.

EPISODE 5 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Melissa Gale
Mission objective: Find a clue to the whereabouts of Bella Monroe

Run forward and scale the ledge until you arrive on the second floor in ROOM
203. Open the door to the corridor to trigger a cutscene, but close it
immediately afterwards.
Sightjack the spider shibito who crawls along the ceiling outside ROOMS 201
and 202 (you will see these signs from the shibito's point of view). When the
shibito falls to the floor, it will glance at a wheelchair and then move
toward the open balcony doorway. When it sees the balcony doorway, crouchwalk
out of the room and descend STAIRCASE A to the WAITING ROOM on the FIRST
FLOOR. Retrieve the [PARKING SIGN] from the WAITING ROOM and locate the EXAM
ROOM.
Open the EXAM ROOM door and light a [SIGNAL FLARE]. You should be able to
run around the spider shibito in the EXAM ROOM and retrieve the ROOF KEY from
the bed without being attacked. Be sure to lock the spider shibito in the
EXAM ROOM after you exit.
Return to STAIRCASE A and ascend the stairs to the WEST ROOF. Approach the
broken railing on the WEST ROOF to trigger a cutscene.
Drop down onto the EAST ROOF and descend STAIRCASE C. Move along the SECOND
FLOOR to STAIRCASE B to trigger another cutscene revealing the shibito brain.
Crouchwalk down STAIRCASE B to the FIRST FLOOR and enter the ELEVATOR.
Ride the ELEVATOR to the BASEMENT. Run in a clockwise direction around the
KITCHEN to the EMPLOYEE STAIRCASE and defeat the spider shibito. The shibito
brain is hiding at the bottom of the EMPLOYEE STAIRCASE and can be killed
with a few blows. Be wary of the nurse shibito who protects the brain.
Ride the ELEVATOR back to the FIRST FLOOR and enter the SURGERY PREP ROOM.
Sightjack Seigo's point of view and you should see a phone with the number
201 on the dial. Dial this number to complete the mission.

EPISODE 5 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Amana
Mission objective: Recall lost memories

Crouchwalk and follow the wandering shibito to the WORSHIP HALL, always
maintaining a reasonable distance behind her. Follow her down into the
tunnels under the WORSHIP HALL but remain concealed at all times. Once the
three shibito have congregated around the underground altar, return to the
WORSHIP HALL and retrieve a [SIGNAL FLARE]. Drop the [SIGNAL FLARE] into the
WELL outside the WORSHIP HALL, then hide inside the cupboard in the WORSHIP
HALL. When the three shibito run past to investigate the disturbance, return
to the tunnels under the WORSHIP HALL and investigate the altar. Arm yourself
with a BEER BOTTLE from the ground and return to the WORSHIP HALL.
Amana must now use her sightjack ability to recall lost memories. When Amana
is in the vicinity of a lost memory, she will experience a shimmering
sensation of sound and colour.
The first lost memory in the WORSHIP HALL involves a map that reveals the
location of the MITAMURA HOUSE.
Sneak up behind the shibito near the LOOKOUT TOWER and beat her down from
behind. Fight your way to the rear of the MITAMURA HOUSE to retrieve the
[DAGGER] from the clutches of a female shibito. Enter the ground floor of
the MITAMURA HOUSE and use sightjack to recover the memory of '(name)'.

Note: any one of a selection of random names may appear at this point, each
relating to a particular grave in the GRAVEYARD. Be sure to note which name
appears as it will be useful later on.

Fight your way to the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP and retrieve the [NOODLE CLEAVER]
from the ground floor cafe. Move in a southerly direction until you reach the
shoreline, then follow the cliff face to the GATEWAY. Use sightjack to
recover the memories of the symbols and glyphs that comprise the GATEWAY
seals. These two images correspond with the seals found in the tunnels under
the WORSHIP HALL and in the GRAVEYARD.

Note: at this point you will need to copy to paper the details of the seals
as they appear in the vision. Be sure to note whether the left or right seal
is surrounded by a zig-zag line or dots. Once this task is performed, return
to the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP.

Ascend the steps beside the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP and move onward to the
GRAVEYARD.
Use sightjack in the GRAVEYARD to reveal the location of the hidden seal,
buried under one of the graves. The correct grave will correspond with the
name you intuited in the MITAMURA HOUSE. There's a little bit of trial and
error involved here, but persevere and you'll get there.
Once the seal is exposed, identify whether it has a zig-zag inner
circumference or dotted inner circumference (the seal in the GRAVEYARD is
dotted).
You must turn the outer and inner rings of the seal (using the controller
thumbsticks) until the inner circle of the seal resembles the picture of the
seal you recorded earlier from the GATEWAY. One of four different symbols can
occupy each of the thirds of the inner circle. The four elemental symbols
resemble leaves (eight dots), wind (three curved lines), water (swirling or
curling lines) and a combination of all three designs. The left thumbstick
controls the alternating rotation between two symbols, while the right
thumbstick allows you to swap to another apir of symbols. Again, trial and
error and a lot of patience pay off. When you have the right combination of
symbols in the centre circle, press X to break the seal.
Return to the WORSHIP HALL via the roof of the HARAYADORI BUS SHELTER. Break
the seal on the altar under the WORSHIP HALL. Your final task is to battle
your way back to the GATEWAY, located at the southern tip of the village.

EPISODE 6 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Take out the pursuer

Ascend the steps and turn left, locating the MINE CART. Push the MINE CART
and jump in, riding it all the way to the SIREN CONTROL ROOM. Pass through
the MINING OFFICE and ascend the slope behind the MINING OFFICE. Retrieve
the SLEDGEHAMMER that lies halfway up the slope.
Turn into the WEST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL and defeat the spider shibito that lurks
in the tunnel. Ride the MINE CART along the BRIDGE and knock down the armed
shibito in EAST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL. Steal his SHOTGUN, return across the
BRIDGE and descend the slope to the MINING OFFICE. Descend the stairs in the
MINING OFFICE, turn on your torch and turn on the ELEVATORS.
Return upstairs to the MINING OFFICE and enter the SIREN CONTROL ROOM. The
key to activate the siren is missing, so pass through the MINING OFFICE
again, ascend the slope to the BRIDGE and enter EAST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL.
Ride ELEVATOR A down to EAST SHAFT LEVEL 5. Consult your map and climb down
the ladder that lies just ahead in the left fork.
Approach the edge of the CENTRAL SHAFT and drop down to LEVEL 2. Slowly make
your way toward EAST SHAFT LEVEL 2 and snipe the shibito with the SHOVEL.
Take the SIREN KEY from his corpse and move down the tunnel toward WEST
SHAFT LEVEL 2. Use shells or the butt of your gun to take out the spider
shibito in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 - he hides in the south alcove. Climb up the
ladder closest to ELEVATOR C and move toward WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4, shooting the
two spider shibito on the ceiling near the STAIRCASE. Ascend the stairs
branching off WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4 to emerge in the MINING OFFICE and ascend
to ground level.
Use the SIREN KEY in the SIREN CONTROL ROOM and then quickly pass through
the MINING OFFICE again, heading up the slope at the rear of the MINING
OFFICE to the BRIDGE. Be careful of the spider shibito who moves down the
slope to the MINING OFFICE (the siren attracts the spider shibito, so be
alert and strike them down with the butt of your gun when they appear).
Cross the BRIDGE into EAST SHAFT UPPER LEVEL and shoot the lone shibito who
lurks near ELEVATOR A. Ride ELEVATOR A down to EAST SHAFT LEVEL 5, then climb
down the ladder that lies just ahead in the left fork.
Approach the edge of the CENTRAL SHAFT and drop down to LEVEL 2. Move to
WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 and enter the dead end path closest to ELEVATOR C. Shoot
the shibito brain suspended from the ceiling - this action will incapacitate
all the spider shibito.
Climb up the ladder closest to ELEVATOR C and move toward WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4.
Ascend the stairs branching off WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4 to emerge in the MINING
OFFICE. Sightjack Seigo and attempt to pop him through the doorway of the
MINING OFFICE as you ascend the stairs, using the doorframe for protection.
Head shots are recommended.

Note: if you get killed by Seigo after you have shot the shibito brain, you
will restart at the checkpoint on LEVEL 2. It is often advantageous to
restart at this checkpoint, as all you have to do is ascend to the MINING
OFFICE ground floor, activate the siren in the SIREN CONTROL ROOM and wait
for Seigo to emerge through the MINING OFFICE door - one head shot and he's
down.

EPISODE 6 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Bella Monroe
Mission objective: Reach the Irazu Valley Church

Note: The shibito will NOT attack you in this level, no matter how closely
you interact with them.

Consult your map and orient it towards north. Descend the northern steps
and drop down the ledges until you arrive at the edge of the waterway. Locate
the hole in the fence (above the 'n' in 'EQUIPMENT STORAGE') and drop down
into the dry river bed.
Run to the east along the dry river bed and pass under the bridge. Make
your way through the EAST FIELDS and proceed to the IRON GATE. As you pass
through the IRON GATE, turn right and ascend the steps to the IRAZU VALLEY
CHURCH.

EPISODE 7 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Reach the Nest Core

Note: You will begin the mission with the [SAWN-OFF SHOTGUN]. There are
only two shells in your shotgun and two enemies to defeat, so shoot these
first two targets at close range, one shell for each enemy.
Remain where you are until a shibito emerges from behind THE LUCKY TRIANGLE
on your right, then follow him and shoot him when the thunder strikes (the
noise of the thunder will conceal your gunfire).
Crouchwalk up the stairs behind THE LUCKY TRIANGLE and shoot the sniper on
the roof. Jump down off the roof and retrieve the MINING PICK from the
shelves near the front entrance of THE LUCKY TRIANGLE.
Consult your map and use the MINING PICK to break through the wooden planks
nailed across the exit route doorway (indicated by a blue square). Enter the
building and move upstairs, defeating the shibito on the stairwell and
stealing his [SLEDGEHAMMER]. Step through the outer doorway on the upper
storey and wait on the exposed roof for a shibito to appear. Kill him
before moving on.
Face west and jump the gap, entering the next covered building. Consult your
map and make your way to the dwelling on the west side of the map, until you
arrive in a room with a noisy television set.
Exit through the opposite door and drop down to ground level. Wait outside
the ABANDONED HOUSE for two flying shibito to appear and take them down.
The shibito brain who controls the flying shibito runs in a circuit around
the ABANDONED HOUSE (he has a wasp body for a head). Chase him around the
outside of the house for one lap, then set a [HUNTING TRAP]. Once he is
immobilised, pummel him to death.
Approach the west end of the SOZUKA BRIDGE and sightjack the talking shibito
who sits on the roof of the 33 YEN SHOP. His gaze will sweep between the
IRAZU BUS STOP and the UPPER ARATO TUNNEL. As he begins to turn away from
your location, quickly crouchwalk to the southern corner of the 33 YEN SHOP.
Turn the LEVER by the soda machine to extend the awning. Now that you are
concealed from the talking shibito's view, make your way around the 33 YEN
SHOP to the barrels on the northeast side. When the talking shibito is
looking towards the IRAZU BUS STOP, climb the barrels, crouchwalk across
the rooftop and kill him. Drop back down to street level and climb the
structure outside the UPPER ARATO TUNNEL to end the mission.

Note: even if you are spotted and shot on the rooftop, you can still attack
and defeat the armed shibito while he is reloading.

EPISODE 7 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Drive away the Shibito Brain

Crouchwalk onto the BUS, travel down the aisle and retrieve the [WRENCH]
from the small room located at the northeast corner of the bus (the WRENCH is
sitting outside at the rear of the BUS on the exterior northeast corner).
There are three spider shibito in the area that you must take out with the
WRENCH - be vigilant, as they could be anywhere.
Make your way toward the small alleyway on the west side of the RENAISSANCE
GROCERY. Climb the barrels to the rooftop, then proceed through the only
white doorway on the map.
Climb the ladder and wait near the lamp post - a band of four spider shibito
crawl about the roof and will descend as you venture down the next corridor,
so sprint as fast as you can to the blue square on the map. Push the soda
machine in front of the doorway, effectively trapping the spider shibito
inside. Consult your map and follow the path to the LOOKOUT TOWER.
From the top of the LOOKOUT TOWER you will notice the maggot shibito on your
right. Bring up your map and regard the lower level containing TOMIZO'S
CIGAR STORE and the SMOKESTACK. Your destination is the SMOKESTACK, so
basically drop down to the lower level and try to outwit the maggot shibito
by taking any path that she isn't blocking. You can run in a circle around
both buildings in the centre of the map, providing you scale the ledges to
reach the upper levels. Climb the SMOKESTACK ladder to trigger a cutscene.
After the cutscene, step forward a little and take out the closest shibito,
then wait for shibito Sam to appear on the roof beside you. Once you have
defeated him, make your way back to the SMOKESTACK and climb it once more.
When you reach the top, face east and drop to the roof below. Make your way
to the STOREHOUSE on the ground level and use the WRENCH to break the
padlock.

EPISODE 8 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Sol Jackson
Mission objective: Reunite with any survivors

Descend the ladder and trigger the cutscene in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4. Crouch at
the bottom of the ladder in the northern corner at the end of WEST SHAFT
LEVEL 4.
Sightjack the shibito who patrols the tunnel ahead. He will approach Sol, but
not notice you if you remain crouched with your torch off. As he turns away,
follow him at close range and climb down the ladder just before ELEVATOR B.
Locate the power box on the wall in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 (denoted by a small
dot on the map) and turn the lights off. Hide in the alcove opposite the
power box and wait for the armed shibito to investigate the light box. As he
moves past your location into WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2, crouchwalk out of the
alcove and head towards EAST SHAFT LEVEL 2. Investigate the stairwell and
retrieve the [VIDEO CAMERA].
Climb the stairs and sneak up on the shibito woman who watches over the
CENTRAL SHAFT. Knock her into the pit, then descend the stairs so that you
arrive in EAST SHAFT LEVEL 2. Defeat the shibito with the [MINING PICK], then
steal the [MINING PICK]. Return to WEST SHAFT LEVEL 2 and climb the ladder
to WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4. Kill the shibito in WEST SHAFT LEVEL 4.
Sightjack the armed shibito in EAST SHAFT LEVEL 4 - he is looking toward the
MINE CART in EAST SHAFT LEVEL 4. Sneak up behind him and kill him. Steal his
[HUNTING RIFLE] and make your way up the ladder in EAST SHAFT LEVEL 2.
Approach ELEVATOR A to trigger the cutscene.

As Sam, crouchwalk past the shibito guard and ascend the stairs to the MINING
OFFICE. Quickly run through the MINING OFFICE and up the slope at the rear
of the building, emerging on the BRIDGE. Turn into WEST SHAFT LEVEL UPPER
and ride the MINE CART to defeat the armed shibito on the BRIDGE. Steal the
[HUNTING RIFLE] and return across the BRIDGE, down the slope to the MINING
OFFICE. Descend the stairs to the lower level and shoot the shibito guard in
the back of the head. Power on the ELEVATORS.

As Sol, ride ELEVATOR A up to EAST SHAFT LEVEL UPPER and enter the PUMPING
STATION. Turn the pump on, then snipe the armed shibito on the BRIDGE.

EPISODE 8 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Melissa Gale
Mission objective: Escape to Karuwari with Bella Monroe

Note: Shibito locations are difficult to predict in this level, so keep your
wits about you and remain armed at all times.

Consult your map. You must run from ROOM 303 to the exterior balcony behind
ROOM 301. Once there, drop through the square hole in the floor to access the
exterior balcony on the second floor. Retrieve the SAKE BOTTLE and wait out
of sight on the west side of ROOM 202.
Sightjack the nurse who patrols the second floor. She will pause outside ROOM
205 and look at the B on the wall, then turn and advance down the corridor to
STAIRCASE C. The second she leaves her position outside ROOM 205 and moves
towards STAIRCASE C, crouchwalk along the corridor to STAIRCASE B and descend
the stairs.
Crouch outside the second (mens) RESTROOM door and sightjack the shibito
nurse in the PHARMACY. She will look out over the WAITING ROOM, then return
to the boarded window. When she turns towards the boarded window, crouchwalk
to the glass doors in the WAITING ROOM to trigger a cutscene. Use the SAKE
BOTTLE to defeat the nurse if she spots you.
After the cutscene, leave Bella in RECEPTION and crouchwalk down STAIRCASE A,
but remain hidden on the lower steps so that you cannot be seen from the
basement. Sightjack the shibito nurse who patrols the basement. As she turns
into the KITCHEN, quickly crouchwalk into the INCINERATOR ROOM and retrieve
the [IRON POKER]. Kill the nurse, then proceed to the POWER ROOM and turn the
power on.
After the cutscene with Sol, run up STAIRCASE C and proceed through the
SURGERY PREP ROOM and OPERATING ROOM to the first floor. Ascend STAIRCASE B
and defeat Sol, then return to the first floor via STAIRCASE A.
Sightjack Bella to reveal her hiding spot, as she may be in any number of
locations (RESTROOMS, LOCKER ROOM, BASEMENT CORRIDOR CUPBOARD, etc...).
Once you have found Bella, run to the INCINERATOR in the basement and
instruct Bella to hide in the INCINERATOR. This action will retrieve archive
#32 [JOYLiNK - Ultra Network King]. Command Bella to hide in the INCINERATOR
again.
Ascend STAIRCASE A to the second floor. Enter ROOM 203 and escape out the
window, dropping to the courtyard below. Remove the PARKING SIGN from the
entrance and retrieve Bella from the INCINERATOR in the BASEMENT.
Exit the building via the glass doors in the WAITING ROOM and pass through
the FRONT GATE.

EPISODE 9 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Melissa Gale
Mission objective: Help Bella Monroe escape

Consult your map and follow the northern path away from the IRAZU VALLEY
CHURCH. Jump down the ledge, then turn left onto the roof of the FUEL
STORAGE shed. Drop to the ground and select the [FROE AXE].
Crouch and sightjack the armed shibito on the ledge above you. When he moves
away from your location with the small shrine on his right, cross the small
wooden bridge and head towards the DILAPIDATED SHED. Keep checking the
sniper's viewpoint to ensure that you are hidden by the embankment.
Defeat the two female shibito near the DILAPIDATED SHED and move through the
EAST FIELDS to the IRON GATE. Command Bella to wait out of sight on the east
side of the IRON GATE and sightjack the male shibito who gazes at the IRAZU
VALLEY CHURCH. When he is ascending the steps towards the church, attack him
from behind and then finish off his female companion. Make your way through
the WEST FIELDS to the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed.
After the cutscene, yell at the maggot shibito and climb up the ledge to the
EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed - this will draw her away from Bella. Stand at the
northeast corner of the shed and climb onto the roof, luring the maggot
shibito onto the roof with you.

EPISODE 9 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Seigo Saiga
Mission objective: Help Bella Monroe escape and acquire the Ancient Book

Zoom in and shoot the policeman who walks
towards the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP, then snipe the shibito who walks towards
you, coming from the direction of the utility truck. Run through the ground
floor of the KARIBNA NOODLE SHOP to trigger the next sub-mission.
Step out onto the
balcony and drop down onto the tin roof, then drop down to the flooded
street level.
Follow the path alongside the MITAMURA HOUSE to the WORSHIP HALL. Defeat
the shibito who guards the WORSHIP HALL. Enter the WORSHIP HALL and examine
the bookcase in the northern corner of the room to end the level.

EPISODE 10 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Bella Monroe
Mission objective: Escape from Tabori

Quickly steal the BEDROOM KEY and
crouchwalk to the upstairs BEDROOM (the room next to the DAUGHTER'S BEDROOM).
Crouchwalk along the southern wall to the open window on the east wall. Don't
cross the centre of the room or you'll disturb the elderly shibito. Exit the
window, climb onto the roof and drop to the ground outside.

Consult your map - crouchwalk alongside the eastern wall, over the small
bridge and into the DILAPIDATED SHED. Retrieve the three [HUNTING TRAPS],
then command Miyako to hide. Crouchwalk outside and lure the closest
shibito into a [HUNTING TRAP]. Grab her [HAND SICKLE] as she struggles, then
Scale the tree to the upper level and retrieve
the [GARDEN HOE] from the small shrine on your left.
Follow the path to the IRAZU VALLEY CHURCH. Sneak up behind the flying
shibito perched on the side of the church and kill him (if he's not air
borne). If he manages to evade you, retrieve the [.38 CALIBRE HANDGUN]
(conatins 36 bullets) from the mana cross at the south corner of the church
to make the job easier.
Return to the DILAPIDATED SHED and step onto the small bridge just south of
your location. Drop down into the river bed and move west to break the SEAL
OF THE BULL.
Consult your map and ascend the steps to the small stone shrine where you
found the [GARDEN HOE]. Consult your map and follow the path past the IRAZU
VALLEY CHURCH to the IRON GATE. Break the SEAL OF MAN near the IRON GATE.
The final seal, the SEAL OF EAGLE, lies beyong the WEST FIELDS. Travel past
the EQUIPMENT STORAGE shed and move up the slope toward the ROAD TO TABORI -
you can't miss it.

EPISODE 11 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Seigo Saiga
Mission objective: Acquire the Uryen

Return up the steps to ELEVATOR B before the maggot notices you, then ride it
up to LEVEL 4.
Wait for the shibito with the [BOLT CUTTERS] to open the ELEVATOR door, then
club him to death with your shotgun. Kill the spider shibito in WEST SHAFT
LEVEL FOUR and then ascend the stairs to the MINING OFFICE. As you approach
ground level in the MINING OFFICE, a siren will sound.
Enter EAST SHAFT LEVEL UPPER
and ride ELEVATOR A down to LEVEL 5 (you will of course have to wait for the
shibito brain to finish using the ELEVATOR). You are now on LEVEL 5.
Shoot the spider shibito near the ladder, then descend the ladder and jump
into the nearest MINE CART. Ride the MINE CART into the shibito brain and
drive the STAKE through her chest. Now the maggot shibito in CENTRAL SHAFT
LEVEL 1 is incapacitated.
Drop down the CENTRAL SHAFT to LEVEL 2 and climb the ladder near ELEVATOR C
until you emerge on LEVEL 4 - look out for the shibito with the
[BOLT CUTTERS]. Ride ELEVATOR B down to LEVEL 1. Follow the stairs down to
the maggot's lair in CENTRAL SHAFT LEVEL 1 and ascend the ladder on the far
side of the pit to reach the exit point.

EPISODE 11 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Enter the Nest Core with Bella Monroe

Command Bella to wait, then race over the north side of THE LUCKY TRIANGLE.
Retrieve the [METAL PIPE] from under the stairs. Return to Bella and knock
the flying shibito the ground.
As you move through the
narrow corridor you will be attacked by a lone spider shibito.
You must climb the structure
outside the UPPER ARATO TUNNEL to end the mission.

EPISODE 12 - CHAPTER 2
_____________________________________________

Character: Sam Monroe
Mission objective: Discover the truth

Melissa has now transformed in a maggot shibito. Immediately after the
cutscene, run straight towards her and dart to the left around the front of
the bus. Enter the bus and run down the central aisle. Retrieve the [WRENCH]
from the small room located at the northeast corner of the bus (the [WRENCH]
is sitting at the rear of the BUS on the exterior northeast corner).
Lure Melissa to the front of the BUS, then run through the bus to the small
alleyway on the west side of the RENAISSANCE GROCERY. Climb the barrels to
the rooftop, then proceed through the only white doorway on the map. Once
again, you must press the TRIANGLE button to unlock the door - if Melissa
closes in, abandon the task and return to the ground level. Try again when
you have some distance between you.
Climb the ladder and consult the map. You must kill two spider shibito and
evade Melissa before you can escape up the LOOKOUT TOWER. Locate the SODA
MACHINE on the map (it appears as a small black square - in an earlier
mission you slid the SODA MACHINE across the doorway to trap the spider
shibito). Kill the first spider shibito the the corridor before the SODA
MACHINE, then trap him inside the corridor by blocking the doorway with the
SODA MACHINE. Kill the second spider shibito in the room with the SODA
MACHINE. As Melissa reaches through the doorway to grab you, run past her and
climb the ledge to access the LOOKOUT TOWER. Scale the LOOKOUT TOWER and
jump the gap to the east.
Retrieve the [SHOTGUN] at your feet and locate the ladder on the map (near
the three barrels). Scale the ladder and step into the middle of the roof.
Aim your gun in Bella's direction and shoot the spider shibito who threaten
her. Try to pop them as they scale the walls and keep an eye on those that
revive. Defend yourself with the butt of the gun if you are attacked from
behind. Don't get distracted though - your primary concern is to protect
Bella. Once all the spider shibito are dead the level will end.

EPISODE 12 - CHAPTER 4
_____________________________________________

Character: Howard Wright
Mission objective: Defeat Kaiko

The final boss battle comprises four stages:
STAGE 1: Stand on the spot and quickly snipe Seigo in the head, even if he
fires back - Howards will be able to absorb at least four shots before dying.
Retreat to the farthest edge of the battlefield and use your rifle sight to
locate Seigo. Zoom in and plug him in the head. If he runs toward you, try
to get a few shots in before finding a hiding spot at the opposite end of the
battlefield. After a few hits, Seigo will wield a sword.
Wherever he is, shoot him as he closes in on you - you don't need to go
looking for him, he'll find you. Always dodge his sword attack and never let
him get too close. Once you have pumped him with a few shells, Miyako will
give you the [URYEN].

Congratulations - you've completed Siren Blood Curse on NORMAL mode.

Disclaimer: this is my own personal interpretation of the events in Siren
Blood Curse, and therefore may differ or conflict with the original author's
intended narrative.

Note: the information presented in this plot guide will unfurl both
sequentially and chronologically to provide the reader with a succinct
overview of the main plot details. I have included archive reference numbers
where appropriate to substantiate facts.

Introduction: Siren Blood Curse can be a difficult story to comprehend: two
characters of different ages sharing the same identity, co-existing at the
same point in time; characters dying and reappearing when new conditions
affect and alter the space-time continuum; an immortal - only immortal in the
sense that she is imprisoned in time and cannot age - it's all a bit of a
head f*ck.

These complexities aside, Siren Blood Curse (like all games the Siren
franchise) is a tale of misfortune, tragedy and despair. It is the story of
a frightened young girl who becomes lost in time; a girl who is cursed with
immortality as a means to avoid the consequences of her actions. Cyclical and
eternal like the Ouroboros (the legendary snake who devours its own tail),
this convoluted and often confusing tale may has no real beginning, nor
ending - and therein lies this author's dilemma...

PLOT SUMMARY:

In 1976, the remote mountain village of Hanuda, Japan, is destroyed in a
cataclysmic landslide [Hanumen Noodles #18]. Decades later, an American
television crew visit the abandoned village to investigate unsubstantiated
reports of paranormal occurences [TV Episode Proposal #5].

The television crew comprises cultural anthropologist Sam Monroe [Sam
Monroe's Faculty ID #7], (Bella's father and Melissa's ex-husband),
presenter Melissa Gale (Bella's mother and Sam's ex-wife) and cameraman Sol
Jackson.
Bella Monroe (Sam and Melissa's daughter) is brought to Hanuda by Sam as a
last resort when he is unable to procure a babysitter. Consult [Video Camera
#2], [Melissa Gale's Cell Phone #6] and [Bella Monroe's Diary #11].
Sol is in love with Melissa [Sol Jackson's Press Badge #14], but hasn't as
yet made his intentions clear to his colleague [Melissa Gale's Cell Phone
#6].

Melissa and Sol bear witness a bizarre ritual in the Hanuda woods - a secret
ceremony in which two girls (Miyako and Yukie) are about to be sacrificed by
the hooded members of a strange cult. Moments before the ceremony begins,
Melissa notices that the ground is quaking - another landslide, or a
temporal shift in the space-time continuum, ensnaring the helpless party in
a slice of repetitive, transdimensional time?

Melissa and Sol watch on in amazement as the cult members murder Yukie.
Suddenly the blood ritual is interrupted by the appearance of a courageous
stranger, Howard Wright, who disrupts the ceremony and allows Miyako to
escape. Howard, an American student studying in Japan, is visiting the
abandoned mountain village at the invitation of a stranger who wrote to him
a few weeks earlier. [Howard Wright's Student ID #3] contains Howard's blog:
hw-biker.blog-paradise.com
Motivated by curiosity, Howard sets off for the deserted village of Hanuda
and accidentally stumbles upon the blood ritual in the woods.

Coincidentally, [The Sacred Revelations #1] predict that the blood ritual
will be interrupted by a stranger, causing the lord of the gods to become
angry: 'and a mighty roar (the siren) shook the earth.'

Howard pleads with a local police officer for assistance, only to discover
that the officer is possessed, a shibito (zombie). The police officer was
once a person of integrity, as evidenced by the note he keeps in his police
log [Shuji Shimada's Police Log #4]. Howard is beset upon by a number of
civilians who are all in the throes of dying and becoming shibito
themselves. Howard manages to impale the shibito police officer and flees.

Melissa, Sam, Sol and Bella witness the shibito emerging from the darkness,
as the undead assemble to answer the call of the siren (the voice of Kaiko,
lord of the Mana gods). The shibito police officer reanimates and shoots
Howard in the chest. Howards falls (to what appears to be) his death.

The tv crew become separated after the siren sounds. Sam wakes near the
Hanuda mines to discover that the sky is raining blood. He searches for the
others and watches the shibito infection spread amongnst the villagers -
every living thing is struck down so that it may reanimate as a shibito.
The shibito are sentient and conscious, aware of their new status as
immortals with a collective hive intelligence.
Sam discovers some footage Sol shot on [Digital Video Tape #8], detailing
an unedited paranormal encounter with the mysterious Jackalope Man. Sam
reunites with Melissa in the mining office.

Howard wakes from a coma-like state, disoriented and bleeding from his
chest. Howard is overcome by a severe telepathic migraine, caused by the
psychic influence of the Mana god, Kaiko. Howard encounters Amana, a
caucasian Mana priestess who offers to protect him from the shibito. Howard
is initially fearful of Amana upon recognising her robes (the same as those
worn by the village cult members), but decides to trust her when she
attempts to dress his wound. Howard learns that Amana is as wary of the
shibito as he is.
Amana teaches Howard to use his new telepathic abilities and to see through
the minds of others. Amana reminds Howard that this 'gift' from the gods will
keep him safe. Howard discovers a [Mysterious Tablet #9] on the lookout tower
that appears to be a ouija board of sorts, a code unlocking the secret
language of the ancient Mana gods.

Seigo Saiga [Seigo Saiga's Driver's License #17], the director of the local
Saiga hospital of 1976, patrols the doomed village and hunts down the
remaining shibito with his rifle. Seigo is aware that the shibito revive
after death: 'Apparently death has abandoned you'. Seigo notices Miyako
fleeing from the shibito but makes no attempt to save her (Seigo was one of
the head cult members present at Miyako's sacrifice ceremony).

Sam and Melissa manage to evade the shibito in the mines, but soon realise
they are sorely out-numbered. Sam discovers a [Mine Worker's Journal #10]
dating back to 1976, the year of the disastrous landslide. The document
details the discovery of a triangular basin set between the Hanuda valley
mountains. The document also reveals a conspiracy among the mine operators
and Hanuda villagers. The journal mentions a mysterious foul odour that
lingers in the mines (a reference to the mythological and flatulent [Gokaju
Giant #25]) and the empty chamber containing the [Gokaju Mural #43]. The
journal also reports that the author was advised by an anonymous source to
abandon his investigations into the mines (no doubt by the local villagers
who wished to intimidate him and conceal evidence pertaining to the Mana
religion's history and re-emergence).

Amana advises Howard to follow her to the Irazu valley church. Howard is
naturally suspicious and reluctant to go: 'Where those bunch of murderers go
to pray?'. However, Amana convinces Howard that Miyako's sacrifice was a
'mistake'. A flying shibito suddenly descends and carries Amana off into the
sky.

Bella wakes in the Saiga hospital and recalls Sol helping her to safety.
While sneaking through the hospital, Bella discovers [Melissa Gale's Locket
#13] and the [Hospital Patient's Letter #12]. The letter details the pleas
of an involuntary patient who was imprisoned at the hospital by Amana and
Seigo. The letter mentions an [Audio Cassette Tape #45] and begs the reader
to bring help from outside of the village. The authour warns: 'She's not who
she says she is' (referring to Amana). Sol manages to find Bella hiding in
the hospital, but all too late - he has become infected, another blood-
thirsty shibito. Sol attacks and injures Melissa, infecting her blood with
the shibito strain.

Howard discovers Miyako in the fields, exhausted and terrified. Howard
notices that Miyako is also a follower of the Mana religion (as evidenced
by the Mana cross she wears about her neck). Seigo confronts them both and
reminds Miyako of her duty as sacrifical lamb. Howard recognises Seigo from
the blood ritual in the woods. Seigo warns Howard not to cause trouble again
and tells him that Miyako is cursed. However, Seigo lets Miyako go free,
knowing that she cannot escape her destiny: 'So you wish to tempt fate?
Feel free to try.' At this point Seigo is aware that events in their timeline
are repeating - no matter what happens, they are all doomed to relive the
same events over and over again. Howard and Miyako evade the shibito in the
fields and escape to Tabori.

Howard discovers the [Local Guide to Hanuda Village #15], a booklet detailing
the folklore and religions of the Hanuda region. Hanuda was believed to lie
on the boundary between this world and another, with visitors from the other
realm worshipped as gods (consult [Gojaku Mural #43]). Miyako was the name of
the first priestess to found the new religion. As time passed, a new god
(Kaiko) replaced the old one and the Mana religion was founded. The followers
of the Mana faith worshipped a deity named Kaiko who was said to have
sacrificed himself for the people of Hanuda village [Holy Scroll - The Gift
#24]. As powerful leaders in the greater region clamped down on religions
that were not state-endorsed, the Mana believers were forced to go
underground and worship in secret. Eventually the prohibition was lifted and
the Mana faith was restored by the wealthy Saiga family (Seigo's ancestors).

Amana wakes in a disoriented state in the Irazu valley church and pleads with
Kaiko for spiritual direction as she consults her diary. In response to her
prayer, Amana is overwhelmed by a crippling telepathic migraine.
[Amana's Diary #16] commences in 1976 with the phrase: 'Why can't I remember
anything? Who am I?'. Amana's diary suggests that she cannot recall
anything prior to July 1976, the night of the landslide and the blood ritual
(indicating the interruption of the blood ritual may have caused the
landslide in the other reality). Despite being a stranger with different
religious beliefs, Amana was embraced by the Hanuda villagers and taken care
of. Amana learned that the villagers believed she was the 'girl with the hair
of the sun', spoken of in ancient Hanuda legends [Legends of Hanuda Village
#47]. Amana was informed about the upcoming blood ritual sacrifice involving
Miyako and was told that she herself would also play a role in the ceremony.
Amana's diary ends with the cryptic entry: 'The back of my brooch fell off
when I dropped it. I never noticed it before, but on the back there's a
strange...'

Seigo sits atop the lookout tower and reflects upon his predicament: 'No...
I can't believe it's come to this' (reconciling himself with being trapped
in repetitive time). Seigo notices Sam below and protects him from the
shibito. Seigo is unsure why Hanuda is suddenly overrun with foreigners.

Howard and Miyako seek shelter in the shibito-infested Ito house. Howard
discovers a disturbing [Altar Display #19] that has been assembled from
random household objects. The shrine features a battered doll mounted to the
centre of a triangular street sign (reflecting the composition of the
triangular gateway Amana uses to send Miyako to Kaiko).

Bella is hunted in the woods by an unknown assailant who hurls a tree trunk
at her. Sam and Seigo hide in Seigo's office, hoping a rescue team are on
the way. Seigo speculates that the village has either been surrounded by a
red sea, or that the village has been ripped out of time and placed in a red
sea [Gojaku Mural #43]. Seigo questions Sam about the blood ritual Melissa
and Sol witnessed, but fails to mention his own involvement.

Melissa wakes after being attacked by Sol and decides to look for Bella in
the Saiga hospital. Melissa stumbles across the spider shibito: malformed,
bloated human shibito who walk on all fours and scale walls. Melissa
discovers [Seigo Saiga's Notebook #20] and learns of Seigo's responsibilities
as head of the Saiga household: Seigo imprisoned a rebellious villager in the
hospital and covered up his death (consult [Hospital Patient's Letter #12] &
[Audio Cassette Tape #45]). Despite all hospital staff being involved in the
conspiracy, Seigo was aware that an intruder was spying on him (Seigo
suspected his lover Yukie, a local nurse). Seigo's notebook relates that he
must find a 24 year old bridesmaid to accompany Miyako at the blood ritual
(the first woman Melissa and Sol saw murdered). Seigo wondered whether Yukie
would be a suitable candidate.
Melissa has a close encounter with the shibito brain, an abomination that
controls all the shibito within its range of psychic influence. Melissa
destroys the shibito brain and reunites with Sam and Seigo. Sam finds Bella's
drawing of the Irazu valley church and decides to look for Bella there.

Seigo remains behind at the hospital and shoots shibito Yukie as she
approaches him for help. Seigo has lost all hope: 'I'm getting tired of
this'. Seigo attempts to rectify the situation by suicide.
[Yukie Kobe's Planner #21] relates Yukie's concern for Seigo and reveals
that the young nurse was indeed spying on him at the hospital. Yukie
mentions that Seigo was adopted as a child by the old hospital director.

Amana wanders aimlessly about the woods, frightened and directionless. She
chances upon an excited shibito who wields her prized [Mana Cross Brooch
#22] and follows the shibito to the bowels of the worship hall. Amana
discovers a hidden cave beneath the worship hall where the shibito make
offerings to a maiden statue shrine. Amana retrieves her brooch and is
struck by the vision of a bloody feast, flesh greedily devoured by unseen
hands (consult [Holy Scroll - The Gift #24]). Amana notices strange symbols
on the back of the brooch. Using the decoder a secret word is revealed:
'WAKE UP'. Amana is being called upon, to remember her true purpose.
Amana searches the graveyard and finds another coded message that has been
deliberately left for her: 'THE CIRCLE OF OUROBOROS MUST TURN' [Engraved
Plank #23].
Amana uses her psychic powers to divine the location of the two seals that
open the gateway, the mystical portal on the outcrop on the edge the island.
Amana passes through the gateway and is followed by the shibito, who stand
in awe around a large triangular indentation as they witness the
manifestation of their lord, Kaiko. Amana is overwhelmed with rapturous
devotion: 'The circle of Ouroboros presides over the Alpha and Omega'. Amana
embraces immortality upon realising the truth of her being: she was once the
lost child, Bella Monroe.

Miyako and Howard notice the mystical light issuing from the sea, but Miyako
is apprehensive: 'They're coming'. Suddenly, a shot fires and Miyako falls to
the ground. Howard chases Miyako's pursuer through the mines and has a close
encounter with the [Gokaju Giant #25]. Howard corners the newly resurrected
shibito Seigo and shoots him dead. Amana appears and remarks: 'I was wrong
before (meaning, she had forgotten all knowledge about her former life and
status as an immortal; Amana realises that she should have thwarted Howard,
not assisted him). I have to perform the ritual again'. With this, she waves
her hand and Howard is engulfed in flames. Miyako is captured again.

Bella wanders lost in the fields and comments on how pretty everything is
since the gateway was opened. The air is alive with alien faeries who have
poured through the opening. Bella discovers the [Miyako Offering Hymn #27],
a prayer sending the soul of Miyako to the lord of the gods.
Bella is not sure why the shibito are suddenly indifferent to her presence,
but proceeds to the Irazu valley church in the hope of finding her
parents. Melissa and Sam [Sam Monroe's Notebook #26] wait for Bella in the
empty church, but are not prepared for the tragic reunion with their shibito
daughter - Bella has become infected.

Howard lies dazed but uninjured at the bottom of a ravine. Despite being set
alight by Amana, Howard is alright - something is keeping him alive. Howard
fantasises that Miyako is safe, but it is just a dream. Howard can hear
Miyako calling to him in his mind and searches for her inside the shibito
nest, a twisted maze of dilapidated buildings constructed from building
debris and car wrecks. Howard finds Miyako's necklace and an [8mm Film Reel
#28] that contains footage of Amana at a Mana ritual. Howard approaches
Amana's ritual arena, a triangular pool set in the ground at the heart of the
shibito nest. Howard is knocked back by a alien tentacle and loses
consciousness, but upon waking attempts to penetrate the heart of the hive
again. Howard discovers a [Fortune Can #29] that contains a prophetic
message about his destiny.

Amana offers Miyako (the fruit) to Kaiko, but the ritual fails, much to
Amana's disappointment - as Howard continues to interfere in Amana's
timeline, events that were once predictable and certain become corrupted and
unstable - Sam transforms into a babbling shibito spider and Bella Monroe
(Amana's younger self) transforms into a hideous shibito brain (meaning that
Bella cannot ever grow to become Amana). Melissa shoots Howard dead, and
Amana announces that 'This isn't right - the Circle of Ouroboros isn't
connecting' (meaning that when Miyako was sacrificed, time should have
reset again, launching Amana back into the past as the child Bella Monroe).
The shibito nest quakes and falls to pieces as the timeline collapses,
retreats and fractures - everything that has transpired since Howard was
shot by the policeman is now undone. [Holy Scroll - Ouroboros #30] explains
the concept of eternal renewal, endless death and rebirth. Howard's actions
have contaminated the space-time continuum and its sequence of events - time
disintegrates and resets, back to where and when all the trouble began...

In a new timeline, Howard wakes in a disoriented state after being shot by
the policeman. Howard encounters Amana for the first time again and is
fearful of the priestess upon recognising her robes (associating her with
the blood ritual he has just witnessed in the woods). Instead of trusting
Amana this time, Howard flees in the opposite direction - he has retained
some memory of the priestess' evil intentions in the previous timeline.
Amana grows anxious - in the new timeline, she remembers her previous
mistakes and treads more carefully. She needs Howard to die - quickly - so
that he doesn't contaminate events in her timeline again.

In the new timeline, Sol (once again human) wakes in the mines and stumbles
around in daze, nursing a splitting migraine from the time jump. Sol recalls
being attacked by the shibito. Sol chances upon a copy of the 1976 paranormal
publication [Atlantis Magazine #31] which features articles about the
mysterious Jackalope Man [UMA World Encyclopaedia #42], pop sensation
[Bermuda 3 #38] and the [Gokaju Giant #25]. The magazine also contains a
special feature on time travel (alluding to the upcoming event in which Sam
will make contact with Howard and invite him to travel to Hanuda village
- Sam is the anonymous writer who wrote to Howard at the beginning of the
adventure and encouraged Howard to visit Hanuda).
Sol finds and rescues Sam (also now human in the new timeline). Sam and Sol
become trapped by the shibito in the upper mine shaft - only Sam manages to
escape without becoming reinfected.

Melissa and Bella (also now human in the new timeline) try to evade Sol
(recently reinfected by the shibito) in the Saiga hospital. Bella discovers
the [JOYLiNK - Ultra Network King #32] in the hospital basement shortly
before she is rescued by Melissa.

Seigo Saiga remembers being ripped from his parents and delivered into the
arms of the Saiga family, who were feared by Hanuda villagers for
resurrecting the Mana faith. Seigo promises: 'We'll meet again soon, Yukie'
as he prepares to end her life, and his own: 'I'm getting tired of this'.
Seigo is trapped in eternal time. [Seigo Saiga's Drawing Book #33] expands
upon Seigo's past: Seigo was originally Seigo Mitamura (the house in the
Harayadori housing settlement), but was adopted by the Saiga family when his
biological parents were killed in a suspicious car accident. Seigo's
adoptive parents were remote and unsympathetic.
Seigo wakes, unable to execute a successful suicide - he always returns to
relive his former existence over and over again.

Howard receives a psychic impression of a girl being chased by a shibito.
Howard vaguely recalls the girl - Miyako?

Bella and Melissa run through the fields, narrowly escaping a maggot shibito.
Melissa finds [Howard Wright's Cell Phone #34] and recognises Howard's
face - Melissa remembers shooting Howard in the previous timeline.
Bella becomes pinned under a fallen tree - the only way Melissa can save
Bella is to sacrifice herself. Melissa coaxes the maggot shibito into a
flammable pool of fuel and drops the [Cigarette Lighter #35] (the initals
'HT' or 'NT' are engraved on the lighter). Melissa screams: 'I love you
Bella, run!' as the flames engulf her.

Sam searches for Bella and Melissa in the Saiga hospital. Sam discovers
Bella's drawing of the shibito nest and proceeds to the shibito stronghold
to find his daughter.

Seigo experiences dejavu as he sits perched atop the lookout tower: 'What
an odd feeling'. Seigo rescues Bella from the flying shibito and explores
the Harayadori housing settlement. In his childhood home (the Mitamura house)
Seigo discovers the [Mitamura Family Album #36]. Seigo reminisces as he
regards photos of his childhood: 'The real me...' Seigo reads [Strange
Tales of Gojaku #37] in the worship hall, which reveals that an ancient
relic, the uryen, lies buried deep beneath the earth in Gokaju. The uryen is
'a gift from heaven with the power to swallow the darkness of chaos in holy
fire. However, this sacred object may only be wielded by those who have
received the power of the chosen one (Miyako).'

Howard studies some blood on the floor in teh worship hall and recalls
Miyako sharing her blood with him: 'This is my blood, an eternal pact of
salvation. This is the only thing I could do. You were untainted, but now...
I'm sorry...' Miyako has given Howard the power to wield the uryen, the only
weapon powerful enough to defeat Kaiko and the shibito.

Sam reads [The Sacred Revelations #1] in the Irazu valley church and
discovers that the ancient volume contains drawings of Bella, Sol, Howard,
Melissa and himself : 'My God'. It was all forseen? There are drawings of
us in here?!'

Bella seeks shelter in the shibito-infested Ito House and discovers the
[Bermuda 3 Record #38], a recording made by a pop music trio whose members
disappeared under mysterious circumstances in the 1970's. Bella finds a
[Spool Knitter #39] and uses an [Insect Catching Kit #40] to trap a [Hanuda
Beetle #41], a rhinoceros beetle who has a distinctive triangular pattern on
its back. Bella escapes from the Ito House, but is reunited with her mother,
Melissa, who perished in the fuel explosion and now wanders the village as a
shibito. Melissa frantically chases after Bella, but her daughter manages to
escape to Tabori.

Amana, determined to succeed, stands on the outcop beyond the gateway and
promises: 'This time I will perform the true ritual.' Amana hunts down
Miyako.

Howard reunites with Miyako (alive again since time was reset) and assures
her: 'I remember (you) now.' Miyako tells Howard: 'We're trapped within a
closed loop. And everything keeps happening over and over.' Miyako asks
Howard to help her release the 'other power' that sleeps in the fields - the
elemental power imprisoned in the stone seals that will end cyclical time
and defeat Kaiko and the shibito (consult [Arcane Homuranagi Scroll #48]).
Howard finds evidence of the mysterious Jackalope Man [UMA World
Encyclopaedia #42] and helps Miyako open the four seals. As the heavens
erupt in holy light, Miyako reassures Howard: 'Don't be afraid. That's the
other power.'
Amana suddenly appears and warns Miyako and Howard: 'You have no place to
run.' Bella watches safely from the distance as she (Amana - Bella's older
self) renders Howard unconscious and kidnaps Miyako.

Seigo wanders the fields and looks to the sky in awe. Seigo discovers
Howard's unconscious form and escorts Howard and Bella to saftey at the
hospital. Seigo suspects that the fates must have led him to Howard in order
to save him: 'It seems this is no chance encounter.' Seigo treats Howard's
injuries and asks him: 'How do you feel, now that you've started your new
existence?' (meaning: 'how do you feel now that you have been cursed with
Miyako's blood and the supernatural power to wield the uryen').
Losing his grip on reality, Seigo has been experimenting on shibito corpses,
learning that even dismemberment cannot destroy them. Seigo ventures into
the mines in search of the uryen, the holy weapon needed to defeat Kaiko
and the shibito. Seigo encounters his former colleague and lover, Yukie,
who has now transormed into a shibito brain. Seigo stakes Yukie and
retrieves the uryen from deep within the mines. The [Gojaku Mural #43] in the
mines reveals a depiction of a triangular-shaped column that bridged the
realm of the gods and earth. The column was a vehicle for transporting the
gods to earth, with red water pooling up from the triangular crater (consult
the [Mine Worker's Journal #10] for mention of a triangular-shaped basin set
among the Hanuda mountains).

Sam becomes frustrated, unable to determine the location of the ritual
grounds alluded to in Bella's drawings. [Sam Monroe's Voice Recorder #44]
reveals Sam's musings about the hive mentality of the shibito. Sam plans to
stop Amana before she summons Kaiko and fulfills the prophecy.

Bella retrieves an [Audio Cassette Tape #45] from The Lucky Triangle which
contains the final pleas of the anonymous patient trapped in the Saiga
Hospital (consult [Hospital Patient's Letter #12]). The patient accuses
Amana: 'You slithered in god knows how long ago and you've defiled this
village by leaving your mark (the Mana cross) all over it. For centuries
you've lorded over this place. You're a monster.' Apparently some villagers
were suspicious of Amana's ageless appearance.

Howard and Bella rush to through the shibto nest to save Miyako, but too
late. Amana lays Miyako in the offering pool and opens 'the gates of
paradise'. However, Amana's expectations are not met: it appears that the
'fruit' (Miyako) was an insufficent sacrifice - instead of a god appearing,
a monstrous airborne creature issues from the blood pool and attacks the
party. Amana wails: 'No, this isn't how it's supposed to be'.

Seigo appears and offers himself to the abomination. Wielding the uryen,
he summons a shower of holy fire to rain down on the abomination, destroying
it forever. Amana accuses Seigo of 'stealing the fruit' (alluding to his
involvement in allowing Miyako escape her fate).

Sam and Howard meet for the first time. Howard identifies Sam as the writer
who originally invited him to Hanuda village, but Sam doesn't understand the
question (Sam hasn't sent the letter to Howard yet - this only occurs after
the adventure is over and Sam becomes aware that in order to keep Bella
alive, he must involve Howard).
Sam's letter to Howard [Message from Sam Monroe #46] reveals that Sam has
been waiting 30 years for the opportunity to meet with Howard again (Sam
had to wait for Howard to arrive in Japan and post his blog before he could
lure him to Hanuda. Any attempt before then would have been ill-timed and
futile). Sam's letter warns Howard that the fates have a particular plan in
mind for him.

The [Legends of Hanuda Village #47] book relates the ancient tale of a girl
'with hair of the sun' who prayed to the gods for food when her village was
struck by famine and drought (recall Amana's vision of the bloody feast and
Kaiko's sacrifice for the Hanuda villagers). In answer to her prayers, a
strange animal - part-fish part-insect - fell from the sky and landed before
her. Unable to suppress her hunger, the girl began to devour the beast
hungrily. But as she did so, the sky grew dark and a terrible sound echoed
through the land (the siren). Becoming frightened and fearing for her life,
the girl promised to offer up another 'divine fruit' in exchange for the one
she had consumed.

Sam searches for Bella in the shibito nest and is confronted by Melissa,
now fully transformed into a rampaging maggot shibito. Sam manages to
lure Melissa up the smokestack where she is incinerated by lightning. Just
as Melissa is about to expire, she witnesses Bella being pursued by Sol, now
transformed into a ravenous spider shibito. Melissa saves Bella, just as the
shibito nest collapses and falls into the void.

Howard stares into the triangular pool where Miyako was sacrificed and
notices her reflection gazing back at him. Miyako instructs Howard: 'Make it
all go away. The village, the people, all of it.'
Howard tumbles into the pool and arrives in Inferno, a desolate wasteland
comprised of pieces of debris from the former reality. Atoning for his role
in the ritual murders of Miyako and Yukie, Seigo offers the uryen to Howard:
'This role is meant for you'. Miyako instructs Howard to channel her divinity
through the uryen, and a consuming fire ends Seigo's life. Seigo
acknowledges that his part in the drama is finished. Seigo ascends to
heaven: 'Yukie.'
The [Arcane Homuranagi Scroll #48] reveals that an ancient force was sealed
away by four sacred spirits of the Mana religion.

Kaiko appears, a colourful and disjointed combination of insect thoraxes
(Kaiko's likeness to Ouroboros isn't coincidental - Kaiko is Ouroboros, the
god of endless cycles and eternity). Amana offers herself to Kaiko in the
hope that her personal sacrifice will fortify the god against Howard's
weapon and compensate for her failure. Amana is indebted to Kaiko for her
immortality.
Howard is sucked into Kaiko's dimension, a psychadelic realm of shimmering
triangles and hexagons. Miyako instructs Howard to use her powers of insight
to defeat the beast, and with a final blast of the uryen, Kaiko's body
shatters into pieces.

Howard and Miyako farewell each other as Kaiko's realm disintegrates. Amana
wanders off into the distance, muttering to herself about Ouroboros and
beginnings and endings. The final page in the [The Sacred Revelations #1]
explains: 'Once, there was a little girl lost in time. A nice god made her
live happily ever after. I am the Alpha! I am the Omega! I am the
beginning and the end. I am the holy meatloaf!' Amana has lost her mind.

Sam falls into a time vortex and learns the truth about Amana and Bella. Sam
receives a vision of Amana devouring the corpse of the sky deity and is
deposited in 1976 at the site of the Hanuda landslide. Sam explains:
'Everything must be repeated so that Bella can exist forever. Howard - that
was his name.' [Sam Monroe's Journal #49] reveals that Sam's memories of the
events leading up to his reappearance in 1976 are fading. Sam speculates
that the Hanuda he experienced wasn't real at all, but belonged to another
dimension; that space-time around Haunda is highly unstable. The cause?
Possibly the location [Mine Worker's Journal #10], the ritual performed by
the villagers [The Sacred Revelations #1] or Kaiko's influence [Local Guide
to Hanuda Village #15]. Sam believes the space-time continuum was disrupted
when Howard interrupted the blood ceremony. This virtuous action however
caused a piece of space-time to become ripped from reality. Sam fears that
time is now repeating in an inescapable, endless loop; that he, and all his
friends, will be forced to relive those events over and over again. As the
journal concludes, Sam's memories blur and fade: 'Everything must be repeated
so that Bella can live forever.'
Sam's journal also contains a newspaper article announcing his death. Sam
suffered from stress-induced mental illness and died in Japan, aged 50-70
years.

Equipped with his [Portable Music Player #50] and the uryen, Howard purifies
Hanuda and destroys the last of Kaiko's minions.

MY CONCLUSIONS:

The tale in Siren Blood Curse is a paradox, as impossible to comprehend
logically as the symbol of Ouroboros itself - a self-perpetuating being
without beginning or end. However, some logical assumptions may be drawn by
analysing the evidence:

- Miyako, a divine deity herself, was sent to earth to counter the god
Kaiko. Aware of her divinity, the Saigo family (upholders of the Mana faith)
wished to sacrifice Miyako, believing this action would result in fortuitous
circumstances for the village (Miyako represents the former pre-Mana religion
[Amana's Diary #16]). The Mana cultists believed it was a sign of conviction,
loyalty and faith to denounce the former religion before the new Mana gods.
When first performed in 1976, the blood ritual was successful - Miyako was
sacrificed and the Mana gods appeased. However, when Howard interrupted
the ceremony some 30 years later, this action caused a disruption in the
space-time continuum.
The Hanuda villagers had some awareness of this eventuality though, as [The
Sacred Revelations #1] warned that a thief would one day steal the sacrifice
and usher in an age of chaos. In fact, [The Sacred Revelations #1] predict
all the main story elements.

- Bella first arrives in Hanuda village in 2007, accompanied by Sam, Melissa
and Sol. When Kaiko is defeated by Howard, Bella is deposited back in time,
centuries earlier and is bestowed with Amana's eternal youth upon devouring
the flesh of the fallen deity. Amana lived among the Hanuda villagers for
centuries, but lost all memory of her former self when Howard interrupted
the blood ritual in the 1976/2007 time overlap.

- Had Amana resisted the flesh of the fallen deity, none of the events in
the story would have transpired - they would have remained as unfulfilled
prophecies and myths.

- Had Howard allowed Miyako to be sacrificed by the villagers, none of the
events in the story would have transpired - they would have remained as
unfulfilled prophecies and myths.

- Howard's intervention sets everything in perpetual motion: if Howard fails
to intervene at the blood ritual, nothing happens. But if Howard successfully
intervenes at the blood ritual, Bella becomes lost in time; Bella perpetuates
the Mana faith and Miyako's suffering; Sam summons Howard to visit the
village to save Bella; space-time is disrupted and repeats endlessly.
The solution? If Howard accepts the invitation to Hanuda, endless repetition
will result. If Sam fails to invite Howard to Hanuda, but is aware of Howard,
this means Howard has already been in Hanuda and has already set things in
motion. The only way the characters can escape the space-time continuum is
if Howard and Sam never meet (Sam cannot develop an awareness of Howard,
with Sam being the catalyst for Howard's presence in the village).

- Sam forgets many of the events he has experienced upon being deposited
back in 1976, but retains a memory that Howard is an important factor in
saving the life of his daughter ('Everything must be repeated so that Bella
can live forever'). It is Howard's action of defeating Kaiko that causes
time to distintegrate, sending Bella/Amana back through the centuries,
causing Kaiko to gift her with immortality when she devours the fallen deity.
If Howard doesn't visit Hanuda and defeat Kaiko, Bella/Amana will not be
sent back in time to devour the fallen deity that results in her immortality.

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS:

- Who left the secret codes for Amana: the Mana gods, or herself?

- What benefit befalls the villagers upon successfully sacrificing Miyako?

- Whose initials are engraved the [Cigarette Lighter #35]? (the initals
'HT' or 'NT' appear on the surface).

- In Episode 8 Chapter 2, in the upper mine shaft, there appears to be a
pivotal scene missing in which Sol becomes reinfected by the shibito (he
goes on to terrorise the Saiga hospital) and Sam escapes without harm.
