Legal ============================= = Introduction = ============================= My name is Adam Say (known as Sajjio/CrimsonSajjio), and I recently played through The Unfinished Swan. I had heard a lot of great things about the game, and was pleased to find that I agreed with the heavy praise given to the game. I thought the experience of the game was fantastic and very captivating, and found a very unique thrill in discovering the world layer by layer. While the game is not difficult at all (it only takes 2-3 hours to complete, and there are only a couple areas where you can actually die), there are a couple sets of collectibles in the game, so I wanted to write a guide to point out where all of the Storybook Pages and Balloons are. There are 19 Storybook Pages and 64 Balloons hidden throughout the game. And while most of the Storybook Pages are easy to find (although I confess, I did miss one of them on my first playthrough), there are some very well-hidden balloons. So whether you are here to unlock those final few Toys, or are going for the Page Turner and Balloonist trophies, I hope you find this guide helpful. Also, I am assuming that you are familiar with the game and game mechanics when using this guide, and I will not be providing detailed controls or walkthrough information. Thanks for reading! ============================= = Version History = ============================= March 18, 2013 - Version 1.00 - Completed first version of the guide - Contains locations of all Storybook Pages and Balloons ================================================ = Storybook Page Locations = ================================================ There are 19 Storybook Pages in The Unfinished Swan. These Pages tell the story of the King, and as the main source of the game's story, are often very easy to find. The Pages can be identified by a large golden letter. If you shoot the letter with a paint ball, it becomes 'activated' and you will hear the next part of the story. Here are the locations of the 19 Storybook Pages: Chapter 1 - The Garden Part 1 - The Statue Garden - 1 Storybook Page 1 - This Storybook Page is at the very end of this area. After you climb the staircase in the courtyard with various animal statues, follow the balcony around to the golden footprints. You will see the Storybook Page/golden letter T on the wall straight ahead, next to some breakable boxes. Part 2 - The Watchtower - 1 Storybook Page 1 - After getting through the first room (the one that repeats itself until you follow the golden footprints), you will be in a room with a shadow. Go through this room, and the Storybook Page/golden letter T will be on the wall right across from you. Part 3 - The First Castle - 2 Storybook Pages 1 - After you enter the labyrinth, go straight at the first intersection and then turn right to see a set of golden footprints. Follow the footprints, and you will see the Storybook Page/golden letter T at the end of this short corridor. 2 - When you go up the staircase to get to the top of the castle (where the hot air balloon is), turn to the right. The Storybook Page/golden letter T will be on the wall. Chapter 2 - The Unfinished Empire Part 1 - The Empty City - 2 Storybook Pages 1 - When crossing the bridge near the sleeping giant (after you hit the rotating switch), turn around on the middle of the bridge. You will see the Storybook Page/golden letter S on the wall of a building, overlooking the water. 2 - This Storybook Page is after you enter the passageway on the ground near the flipped-over boat. Follow the golden footprints along the passageway. Once you reach the exit of the passageway, you will see the Storybook Page/golden letter B on the wall. Part 2 - Scaffolding - No Storybook Pages Part 3 - New Growth - 1 Storybook Page 1 - This Storybook Page/golden letter A is on the wall behind the big pile of dead vines, next to some golden footprints. You will also return to climb this wall once the vines are growing. Part 4 - The Palace - 1 Storybook Page 1 - This Storybook Page is on the back wall of the hedge maze. If you climb up on top of the hedges, you will see the Storybook Page/golden letter U at the back of the maze, and can get there easily. Part 5 - The Seawall - 2 Storybook Pages 1 - As soon as you start this area, turn to the left. You will see the Storybook Page/golden letter T on the far wall. 2 - After you cross the second set of golden monkey bars, you will jump down and land on a narrow platform. Follow this narrow platform, and at the end of it you will see the Storybook Page/golden letter T. Part 6 - The Belltower - 2 Storybook Pages 1 - As soon as you start this area in the tower, turn to the left. You will see the Storybook Page/golden letter E. 2 - This Storybook Page is after you get outside of the tower and climbing up the staircases going around the tower. You will see the Storybook Page/golden letter W on the floor. Chapter 3 - Nighttime Part 1 - The Woods - No Storybook Pages Part 2 - The River - 2 Storybook Pages 1 - After the light ball falls down the first waterfall, you will need to push it past a log so that it continues along the river. When the river stops going straight and changes directions, the light ball will stop here. At this point, you will be able to cross the river on a log. On the other side of the river, you will see the Storybook Page/golden letter T. 2 - At the very end of the river, you will see the Storybook Page/golden letter T on a wall along the right side of the riverbank. Part 3 - Home - 1 Storybook Page 1 - When you enter the house (after climbing the steps you created in the blueprint section), turn to the right. You will see the Storybook page/golden letter B on the wall next to a staircase leading to the upper level. Part 4 - The Nursery - 2 Storybook Pages 1 - As soon as this part of the Chapter begins, you can turn right to see the Storybook Page/golden letter E along the right wall of the house (just to the left of the picture you need to jump into). 2 - This Storybook Page is near the end of the level. After you get out of the house (not in the blueprint section), you will follow a path that has a few lights. At the end of this path, you will be in an area looking out towards the King's Monument, and you will see the Storybook Page/golden letter O on a wall in front of you. Part 5 - The King's Monument - 2 Storybook Pages 1 - As soon as you begin this area and jump out of the boat, you will see the Storybook Page/golden letter F. 2 - After climbing the mountain and ramps to get towards the Monument and the section with electricity, you will see the Storybook Page/golden letter T after you finish climbing. Chapter 4 - The King's Dream - No Storybook Pages There are no Storybook Pages in any of the parts of The King's Dream. ========================================= = Balloon Locations = ========================================= There are 64 balloons in The Unfinished Swan. The balloons are used to unlock secrets ('Toys') in the game. These Toys can range from in-game equipment like a sniper rifle or fire hose to other extras like concept art and a prototype level they created for the game. The balloons are a variety of colours, and they float in the air (often tied to something in the level). You need to hit each balloon with a paint ball in order to get it. IMPORTANT NOTE - One of the unlockable Toys is a Balloon Radar. It costs 3 balloons to unlock, and is easily the most important tool you can use when looking for balloons. A balloon outline will fill with yellow the closer you get to a balloon. It is very useful when pinpointing the exact location of a balloon, and I would recommend spending your first 3 balloons to unlock it. Here are the locations of the 64 balloons: Chapter 1 - The Garden Part 1 - The Statue Garden - 3 Balloons 1 - When you get into the courtyard area with the different animal statues, head towards the statue of the pig. There will be a small wall behind it, and the balloon is above this wall. The balloon is difficult to see, but you should be able to see the string floating and then aim a bit higher to hit the balloon. 2 - When you get to the area in the courtyard with two staircases going up, go underneath the left staircase (the one that is broken). You will see a door here leading to a small tunnel and secret area. The balloon is in a small room in this secret area. 3 - This balloon is in plain sight in the courtyard area with the different animal statues. When you go up the two staircases, a red balloon will be on top of the animal sculpture on the wall in between the staircases. Part 2 - The Watchtower - 2 Balloons 1 - In the first big room of the level (the one that keeps repeating until you follow the golden footprints), you will see a fireplace and chimney along the right side from where you enter. Go inside the fireplace and look up - the balloon in the chimney. 2 - This balloon is near the first time you see blue water (the water is on the other side of a pane of glass). The balloon will be on the right side, on the other side of the glass. You need to aim a paint ball over the wall so that it hits the balloon. Part 3 - The First Castle - 4 Balloons 1 - After going up a couple staircases and through a room, you will climb a staircase and be on a wall overlooking the water (just before you enter the King's study). Before entering the study, turn around and head the other way along the wall. You will see part of a red balloon behind the walls and turrets - aim a paint ball over the walls to hit the balloon. 2 - In the King's study, climb the golden ladder to look at the model of the castle. You will see a tiny balloon floating above one of the turrets - hit it. 3 - In the labyrinth, get to the area with the statue of the hand holding a paintbrush. The balloon is right beside the statue, underneath the hand. The balloon is white, so it's a bit tricky to see. 4 - This balloon is on the top of the castle, near the telescope and hot air balloon. Before getting on the hot air balloon, turn to face the tall castle tower. In a corner of this area is the balloon, floating above a little tree. Chapter 2 - The Unfinished Empire Part 1 - The Empty City - 4 Balloons 1 - When you get to the sleeping giant, do not hit the rotating switch and cross the bridge yet. Instead, climb up the nearby small staircase with an open gate at the top. Go through this gate, and you will see a closed gate at the end of the tunnel. Go up to the closed gate, and you will see a blue balloon on the right. You need to shoot a paint ball through the gate to hit the balloon. 2 - After getting through the passageway and rooms on the lower level (before you raise the water level), you will climb a golden ladder into a big room. A pink balloon will be right in front of you, floating above a pot. 3 - After you hit the switch to open the gate and raise the water level, use the boat to cross the river. Then head up the staircase to the left. A blue balloon will be hanging above a light. 4 - Once the bats fly out of the dark tunnel, continue walking along next to the left wall. There will be a hidden passage along the left wall (you can use paint balls to help you find it) that leads you up a small flight of stairs into a room. A yellow balloon will be hanging above a pot. Part 2 - Scaffolding - 5 Balloons 1 - Climb up the ladder to the left of where you start the level (you need to hit the red switch to make the ladder fall). Before jumping to the broken ladder, continue along this walkway to the small area with tables and chairs. You will see a blue balloon hanging above the water. 2 - Use the ladders to climb to the highest level of scaffolding. A yellow balloon will be in the air above this platform. 3 - Jump from the scaffolding to the next rooftops and continue along the path towards the spinning platform. You will see a green balloon in plain sight on a rooftop hanging above a pot. 4 & 5 - These balloons are in plain sight, hanging on the handles of the big doorway that leads to the long staircase that takes you down to the next area. Part 3 - New Growth - 8 Balloons 1, 2 & 3 - When you enter the big area with the dead vines, look for a small staircase on your left. Go up this staircase, and follow the path to the left. You will see 3 balloons and a rotating switch behind a gate. Aim your paint ball to go over the gate and hit the switch - it will open the gate, and you can then enter the area and hit all 3 balloons. 4 - After you climb the first wall using vines (the wall that the Storybook Page is on), you will see a green balloon hanging above a pot. 5 - After climbing the next wall, you will see a red balloon hanging above the wooden archway. You will need to climb the archway to get high enough to hit the balloon. 6 - Continue using the vines to climb up and along walls. After going up a few more levels, you will see a blue balloon hanging above a small vista (it is very easy to see). The balloon is near some golden footprints that are on the wall of a building. 7 - After climbing up the next wall, you will see a pile of dead vines. Bring the live vines over to this area, and the dead vines will grow into a whale sculpture. The whale sculpture growing will hit a nearby balloon automatically, so you don't need to hit the balloon yourself with a paint ball. 8 - After sending the vines in the golden pipe, continue along the pathway and climb the golden ladder. Before you jump on the hanging vine to get to the next area, look to your right. You will see a red balloon hanging above a light. Part 4 - The Palace - 5 Balloons 1 & 2 - These balloons are both hanging on branches in the tree you climb onto at the beginning of this level. One is on a raised branch overlooking the hedge maze, and the other is on the branch you need to walk across to get to the next part of the level. 3 - This balloon is in plain sight above the hedge maze. The easiest way to navigate the hedge maze is to jump on top of the hedges. From there, you will be able to easily get to the balloon. 4 - Once you get out of the dining room and onto the rooftop, turn around until you see a pile of boxes. You can climb these boxes to get onto the upper level. Head to the right along this path down a staircase, and you will see a balloon hanging above a tree. 5 - Before you jump across the two parts of the wooden bridge, turn around and look through the closed gate. You can shoot paint balls through the gate to open a door, and you will see a red balloon hanging above a pot. Shoot through the gate to hit the balloon. Part 5 - The Seawall - 5 Balloons 1 - Turn to the left as soon you as start this level. You will see a blue balloon hanging above a tree. 2 - Stand right by the telescope in this area. Turn to the right, and you should see a blue balloon floating above a light, on a platform on the other side of the dome. 3 - After the area with the telescope, you will jump across a series of blue rooftops. After you jump across all of them and land on the ledge below, turn around - the final blue rooftop/building you jumped on has a black window. Jump into this window, and you will find a blue balloon inside the tower. 4 - After you get the fire hose, turn around and look at the tops of the nearby towers. You should see a pink balloon at the top of a tower. You will need the hose to hit it. 5 - Again, look around when you have the fire hose. You will see a light blue balloon hanging above a nearby bridge. Shoot the balloon with the fire hose. Part 6 - The Belltower - 1 Balloon 1 - When you find the Storybook Page/golden letter W on the ground outside the tower, stop and look around this small terrace. You will see a blue balloon floating above a light. Chapter 3 - Nighttime Part 1 - The Woods - 6 Balloons 1 - After the first light, you will see a set of golden footprints. From there, look up and to the left. The balloon is under a log. However, because it is dark, you will only be able to see the dark balloon silhouette, no colour. Once you get the right angle, you should be able to see it contrasted with the moon and night sky. Jump and shoot a paint ball to hit it. 2 - You will see the first blue light in the level right above a set of golden footprints. Hit the light - you should see a yellow balloon on the left, in the air. 3 - Once you knock the light ball down into the clearing below, drop down into the clearing. Push the ball underneath a broken tree, and then look towards the ledges on the left. A balloon is floating above one of the ledges (it can be a bit hard to see, depending on where the light ball is). Shoot a paint ball towards the ledges and hit the balloon. 4 - This balloon is right before the first half-log that you push the light ball through. Near the entrance to the half-log, you will see a light blue balloon. 5 - This balloon is located near the top of the hill that the light ball rolls down very quickly. After the light ball gets to the bottom of the hill, you will need to slowly push the light ball back up the hill. You will see a red balloon in the mouth of a small cave near the top of the hill. 6 - After you get back to the bottom of this hill, you need to push the light ball through a small tunnel. After the tunnel, there is a red balloon above the tunnel entrance you just came out of. It is pretty high up, so you will need to climb some of the nearby rocks and jump to shoot a paint ball to hit it. Part 2 - The River - 2 Balloons 1 - Follow the light ball along the right bank of the river. Just before you get to the wooden bridge with the frog on it, look across the river to the opposite bank. You will see a red balloon across the river. You can shoot a paint ball across the river to hit it. 2 - After the light ball falls down the first waterfall, it will become stuck against a log in the river. Look across the river near this log to the opposite riverbank - you will see a red balloon hanging above a log on the other side of the river. Shoot a paint ball across the river to hit the balloon (you may need to climb onto the log to get close enough to the balloon). Part 3 - Home - 3 Balloons 1 - Before jumping into the painting, go to the small lit area behind the painting. You will see a pink balloon above and to the right, behind some debris. You will need to climb the boxes to get high enough to hit it, but you can then shoot a paint ball over the debris to hit the balloon. 2 - After jumping into the painting, turn around. You will see a red balloon floating above the picture frame you just jumped through. 3 - Once you navigate across the Home area and are next to the white wall of the house, do not enter the door right away. Instead, walk around the white wall of the house and look behind it. You should see a pink balloon behind the frame of the house. You will need to time your paint ball to hit the balloon. Part 4 - The Nursery - 6 Balloons 1 - As soon as this area begins, head to the left and out onto the house's balcony. A balloon will be floating above the balcony (you will only see the dark outline of the balloon). 2 - After jumping into the painting and falling into the blueprint, head out onto the tiny ledge next to the gold crown. Turn to the left, and you will see part of a blue balloon by the wall - you can shoot it from here. 3 - When you exit the blueprint house, you will see a red balloon hanging from a tree on the left side of the next area. Create platforms to get you to this section, and then hit the balloon. 4 - This balloon is in the tower in the blueprint section. After you climb up the broken ladder into the room above, you will be facing a window. Jump towards this window, and look outside. You will see a red balloon outside the window, on the left side. 5 - This balloon is on top of the tower in the blueprint section. After climbing the final ladder and heading outside, you will be able to see the balloon above the dome at the top of the tower. You can get this balloon by either jumping and shooting a paint ball (you will need to time this perfectly), or you can build some blueprint boxes in order to make it easier to get a good shot. 6 - This balloon is right before you cross the river towards the King's Monument. When you are on the wooden dock, turn around and look towards the light (where the Storybook Page was). You should see the outline of a light blue balloon above the rocks. Part 5 - The King's Monument - 5 Balloons 1 - In the section with all of the electricity, you should see a wooden platform covering a hole in between the two blue electricity cables. If you look down the hole, you will see the outline of a balloon. Shoot a paint ball down into the hole to hit the balloon. 2 - Once you get to the electrified lemon, stop and turn around. You should see an outline of a balloon floating above the rocks (it can be a bit tough to see depending on your angle - it's easiest to see when it's silhouetted against the night sky). 3 - Once the water level is rising, this balloon is just before you enter the narrow tower. As you approach the tower entrance, look to the right. You should see the balloon floating above a wooden post. 4 - After getting out of the top of the narrow tower, turn around and climb onto the roof of the tower. If you look in the air to the left, you should see a balloon hanging above a wooden beam. You may need to jump and shoot a paint ball to hit the balloon, but you can hit the balloon from the roof of the tower (you may need a few tries since the water level will still be rising). 5 - After getting out of the top of the narrow tower, continue following the path to the left. Before you turn around and walk up the first ladder (which acts as a ramp), you will see this balloon floating to the right, attached to a nearby tower structure. Chapter 4 - The King's Dream Part 1 - The Beginning - 3 Balloons 1 - In the first room of this level, find the wall with the mirror on it, and continue walking to the right into the white (you can use your paint to help see where you can/can't walk). Head as far in this direction as you can, and then turn to look behind the room wall. You should see a balloon there. 2 - When you get to the section where the king's statue talks and then breaks, turn around. You will see a light blue balloon in the air behind you. 3 - When you start using the vines to climb along the walls, keep an eye out on the left side. You will eventually see a pink balloon floating in the air from the upside-down hedge maze on the ceiling. Part 2 - The Middle - No Balloons Part 3 - The End - 2 Balloons 1 - When you are floating along the river on a blueprint box, you will see a light ball between the legs of a bear. There is a red balloon here, on the other side of the bear. 2 - After you jump out of the window into the graveyard, head to the cluster of tombstones on the left. This final balloon will be floating above the wooden post. It is hard to see from most angles, so you can either shoot paint balls above the post until you hit it, or circle around until you can see its silhouette against the night sky. ============================= = Contact Information = ============================= My email address is adam.christopher.say@gmail.com My PSN is Sajjio I'd love to hear any tips, suggestions, constructive criticism, or just from anyone that's been playing and enjoying this game! ============================= = Special Thanks = ============================= Thanks to GameFAQS and all of its contributors for all of their assistance over the years!
