Introduction =============================================================================== Hello, and welcome to my Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes move list and basic gameplay guide - in fact, welcome to my first guide ever. Here you will find a complete list of romanized names for all of the skills in the game, some explanation of what they do, what properties they have and what changes they suffer upon a level up. In the future, I plan on adding more specific information such as range and cooldown, and also English translations for the skills' names. For the time being, though, this guide won't offer strategies involving the use and setup of these skills nor will suggest setups for the various situations you might encounter during the course of the game. For more specific information about the game you can check the excellent guides already available in the FAQs section. So sit back and enjoy. I had a great time working on this, and I really hope it helps you on your journey to become the number one of Sengoku Jidai. This is a work in progress, so please feel free to mail me with suggestions and the like. And yes, my English is terrible. =============================================================================== 2. Gameplay Basics =============================================================================== In the skill's descriptions I mention a lot a things, from buttons to specific terms, so I'd better explain all of them now. If you're already familiar with the game's controls and mechanics, please move on to the next section. --------------------- 2a. Controls For this guide, I'm using the basic buttons setup the game offers, which is: Square: Normal attacks Triangle: Special skills Circle: Basara Skills X: Jump R1: Defense/Parry/Reset camera R2: Reset camera L1: Change equipped skill L2: Sengoku Drive Start: Pause game Select: Taunt Note that this can be changed in the options menu. Even if you don't understand japanese, you can refer to The Giant Hoeruo's translation guide for directions. --------------------- 2b. In-game mechanics and terms Special Skill: The ones being explained in this guide. Used by default with the triangle button. You can equip two of them for each stage. Has no activation cost. Basara Skill: A special attack activated with the circle button. In order to use it, you must fill the Basara gauge, the blue bar located below the Life gauge. While the characters is performing his or her Basara Skill, he/she becomes invincible. Activating your Basara Skill while in Sengoku Drive results in a Extreme Basara Skill, that deals more damage. They also have some particularities depending on the mode you're playing: - In Tournament, Conquest, Story and Free modes, the enemies can't block but can (and will) dodge your Basara Attacks. - In Versus Mode, you can still receive damaging while performing a Basara Attack, and most of them can be blocked or even parried. Sengoku Drive (or Battle Drive): A special mode you can enter by pressing the L2 button, which makes your character almost invincible and powers ups all of his/her moves. For each 100 enemies you defeat, you gain a Sengoku Drive level (the maximum being three levels). The higher the level, the longer your Drive will last. Defense: Holding the R1 button makes your character guard. While guarding, you avoid most of the enemies' attacks, except for bombs. If you take too many hits while in this state, your defense crumbles and you'll be damaged normally. Evasion: Moving the control stick while defending makes your character do an evasive jump or roll. This can be made in any of the four directions. Parry: By pressing the R1 button at the exact time an enemy attacks you, you'll parry. When you do so, the screen will flash and the enemy will bounce back, becoming completely vulnerable for a while. Enemies do not parry your attacks. Note that you can also parry arrows, bullets and other projectlie attacks, like Matsu's Taroumaru. Taunt: Pressing the select button makes your character provoke nearby enemies, and can actually piss them off: bosses will have their Drive gauge filled faster (and will enter Sengoku Drive if possible) and normal soldier will attack. The payoff is that, if you do a taunt near any enemy, your Basara gauge will fill as well. ----------------------- 2c. Elemental Properties Since the first Sengoku Basara, some of the characters' weapons and skill has elemental properties. Those grew in SB2, and now there are a total of six possible elements with different effects. They are: Fire: Keeps dealing damage to the target for a while, even after the hit has landed. Ice: Freezes the targets, making them incapable of moving for some time. Darkness: Absorbs life of a killed target, adding it to your own. Note that the effect is activated only when you KILL the target, not every time you DAMAGE it. Wind: Makes nearby enemies lose balance and attracts them towards you. Electricity: Causes damage to the enemies that are near the one you've hit. Light: Makes easier to crumble an enemy defensive stance. Elemental properties of weapons and skills are shown trough icons placed next to their names. They're fairly easy to recognize. ----------------------- 2d. The Priming System In SB2 Heroes, Capcom adding the priming system, something that was already available (albeit in a different form) in Devil Kings. Basically, hitting an enemy with a priming skill makes them takes an additional hit for the remainder of the priming state. You know an enemy has been primed by looking at his life bar - yellow, in opposition to the normal white. The priming state only lasts a few seconds, so you need to try and hit primed enemies as much as you can. Priming skills have their names written with yellow borders. Here in this guide, they are signalized with a "(P)". =============================================================================== 3. Character's Moves List =============================================================================== Keys for reading the list: NAME OF THE CHARACTER Romanized name of the skill Description: What the skill does On Level Up: That changes the skill suffer when it (not the character) levels up. If there are no changes, it will be signed with a "--" (P) = Priming Skills (F) = Fire (I) = Ice (D) = Darkness (W) = Wind (E) = Electricity (L) = Light 3.1 MAEDA KEIJI Koi Tsudzuri Description: Keiji swirls his sword around himself, hitting and juggling enemies around him. Obs.: Some people say that there's a bug that can make Keiji's Basara Skill last for any time you want. Each time you do a taunt, it would add one hit to the skill. If you do this for some time... ====================== 3.2 DATE MASAMUNE CRAZY STORM Description: Masamune continuously hit enemies around him with four swords. Note that only the "flash" that happens when you activate this skill counts as a prime attack. On Level Up: -- Obs.: You can still enter Gokusatsu state "normally" by holding the square button. The difference is, while using the proper skill makes him go mad instantly, you will have to keep holding square for a while before the skill activates. There are three possible charging levels that will make him stay in this state during, 5, 10 and 15 seconds. It is worth noting that you can hold the square button while doing almost anything, incluing the Basara Skill animation. BASARA: (E) Kojuro does a short range sword combo and finished with a big electric blow that sends enemies flying away. It can be a little tricky with the handling though, since in the middle of it it seems like he is "dancing" or hitting the targets trough his sides. Anyway, I don't find it too good damage wise. draewon, from the GameFAQs boards, says: "even though its pretty weak, its pretty lenghty for a basara attack, which is the best way to charge his gokusatsu in the heat of battle,i think you can get a full charge if you press the square button a while before you start the basara,i maybe that's why capcom made his basara so difficult to hit". On Level Up: --

Obs.: You cannot use your Basara Skill during Osarachikara. If you're without

the final throwing part deals damage too.

I really don't know how to use this properly.

draewon, from the GameFAQ boards, says: "simple solution,do not aim at all
when the basara is activated, aim before that, and all 3 hits will connect,
this is one of the most powerful basara in the game, with the sengoku
drive active you can kill pretty much anything onscreen except for maybe
lv3 tadakatsu on komaki nagakute(the final throwing part also hurts a lot
if you manage to hit someone with it),no comment about VS mode yet since
i rarely play as zabii at vs mode,he has awful dueling ability with his
skills(which is pretty slow aside from the bazooka)"

do them all, you have to press the triangle button with the right timing.

longer than the others. I think they're all the same myself but yeah, the
timing is fairly simple to figure out anyway.

BASARA: "Kagayake, waga tsurugi!" ("Shine, my sword!") (L)

You'll walk slowly and won't be able to block or dodge while the skill is on.
On Level Up: --

BASARA: "Yurushite ne" ("Please forgive me") (D)
Ichi falls to the ground, stunning nearby enemies.
She then does a naginata combo, and then her "dark tentacles" start hitting
the enemies, pushing them forward. Make sure you have some space in front
of you before activating this skill, or else this last part just won't do
much damage (as there won't be space for the arms to hit).

Obs.: It is worth noting that the effectiveness of "Hirake Ne no Kuni",
"Kitare Ne no Yami", "Umeke shi no Hana" and the Basara Skill depends
on how much life Oichi has left. The nearest she is to death, the
stronger these attacks will be.

control the direction of the whole process.

As well pointed in the GameFAQs boards: weakest. freaking. Basara.

in extreme difficulty.

Really, I think the last part is the most damaging one.

prime enemies besides the moment you activate Sengoku Drive.
