[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Tie-ga Woods PGA Tour 13, that's the name, right? You're a reading this guide to get better, or maybe that you are bored, either way I'm going to go over the basics to make you a pro. First things first I'm assuming two things: 1. You are playing the PS3 slash superior version. 2. You bought the game dirt cheap used and don't plan on giving EA anymore $. May you ask why the PS3 version is better? You can buy down-loadable courses outright with ingame coins FASTER than you can buy gold mastering them on the Xbox version. The $ thing is simple, most of the DL courses are from past games, and you shouldn't be paying the game's worth again to enjoy something that should be included, sorry EA, you don't have to be a genius to see you nickel and diming the gamer. Table of Contents: Use Find, copy and paste. ~Getting Started and Tips ~Golding Courses ~Boost Pins ~Trophies [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] ~Getting Started and Tips In this section, although breif will break down many of the skills I've used to nail perfect to near perfect games consistantly. "Curse the Golf Gods for Making me Weak" Upon starting the game the first time, it might be tempting to power slam a few rounds as good ol Eldrick W., but make your golfer first. Every round will help your weak ass make those few par 4's in one... Cosmetics don't matter, though I usually make a chick because I love looking at digital ass. FUn fact: You can make the rear bigger, but the breasts aren't to the standard of o'11's game... they make up for it be showing off the "Rock Hard" feature, even out of the rain. Ok, enough about me being a perv, make your guy, or girl. After every round you need to pump up the stats. The six most important stats are Power, Power, Power, Power, Power, and Power. Not even joking, increase your stats as such. More seriously, I'll tell you why. Power: With high power, you can make most par 5's free eagles. Some par 4's as well. You also can't make up shots with skill if you physically can't make the hole. Workability: Magic. You can manually shank your shot to obtain this. True it can be nice to pop your aiming circle 50 feet to the left, but there are very few non Bethpage/Crooked Stick courses out there were you really need this. Acc: Stop shanking, but put this up with putting after Power gets to high 90's - 100. Spin: Another Magic stat, you really avoid this stat if you just aim close to the hole. It can actually hurt you if have it too high and like to mash X + L1. Recovery: Useless stat. If you are going to get good like me, you are either going to never get in bad terrain, or you are going to do it onpurpose to get close to the hole since you all ready know that it is friggen easy as hell to get out the muff. Putting: Read Acc. Good, that all make sense? "What settings should I use?" If you are using this guide, I assume you are on Beginner. This is OK, because if you were on anything else, you would like a challenge and not be using a guide. Just know, the harder the stuff, the more exp and a tad more coins you'll get. Instantly when turning on the game TURN OFF THE CADDIE. I'm your new caddie, and it's worth a whooping 50% exp. I can do Pro Tour, but I usually use putt preview, why? It's the greatest form of Magic in this game. Even wonder how people brag about banging at least a -22's every game? Putt preview. Most of your games should be played in the "story" mode, so you really can't choose the wind and what not, but in Free Game, take the black tees. The amount of eagles you'll get from short par 4's hardly offsets the amount of exp boost you'll get... and you'll look less like the actual woman you're golfing with. Also ALWAYS put on the longest cut for the rough, it really doesn't make a difference game play wise if it's short or not, so may as well get the free EXP. Never put on Red Tees, I'm pretty sure it nulls any coin/mastery awards. As well as mulligans, that's 100% not rewards. "The Magic comes from the Sleeve of a Wizard" One thing that breaks the game is the use of "Magic". Unlike '11 which used a focus meter to limit this, this game lets you abuse the **** out of it. Power Up: Doesn't exist, so you'll actually shank less than in the previous woods games becuase you won't be shaking the control like you do on an afternoon while no one is home. Spin: Spin can hurt you if you do it like an idiot. First rule is to never hit triangle. You'll need to gauge were the ball will be, it takes practice. If you have up wind, and you are just below the hole and over shooting, mash down spin, because you'll most like bounce way to far. Opposite is true with down wind, as you'll hardly get any roll, so mash up. Fade/Draw: Making your ball go left or right may seem nice, but it really isn't that game breaking since you can manually do it. Though it has a good purpose, if you don't mind losing a few yards, you can always curve to the opposite direction of the wind to try to neutralize it. This has it's uses when trees are everywhere. PS I ****ing hate trees. Putt Preview: Just read the putting section. "Why the hell did my ball fall short when my thing was right on the hole." Wind, elevation, or both. General rule of thumb: Wind will affect you at longer shots more, while elevation will affect you more at close range. What does this mean? If you are 50 yards from the pin, don't expect even gale force winds to stop that massive overswing you just did. Irons will get affected by wind more than your drivers. Opposite is true with elevation, irons usually negate higher alts up to 20-30 since you are arcing your shot, while a wood will usually crack into the hill. With winds of about 12-18mph, you'll need to up club about once if it directly down, and aim to the opposite side of the fairway to land in it if it's to the side. With about 20-30mph, you may need to up club 2 times, 3 with an iron. If it's to the side, you really need to aim into the trees, and if there is water, don't even chance it. Also remember that pulling your cross hair on the bottom of the ball with nuke it’s overall distance at the cost of being at a higher arc. "The 1 Iron is the best club in the game" Don't use the crap the game starts you with. After you get the Trophy with the Hybrid, take it out. The club screams nub. For the best balance I take the 1 Iron, then skip all the even numbered irons. Same with the wedges, take the weakest, then skip a few in between. The difference between distances isn’t going to make up break the game, and since this game doesn’t use the % system of the other games, it’s easier to make shorter shots than your clubs standard range. For everything else, take the 3 wood, the 11.5 driver, and the 7 degree. You’ll be using the wood for if you need a low shot in the rough, or for a shorter launch to the green. The 7 degree will be used mostly, but use the 11.5 when you try to super man that shit over a tree or a mountain. But back to the 1 iron, I can play an entire course with that bad boy if they would let me put with it. Wind does kill it, but it will help you get many tricky par 4 eagles (Celtic Manor and Wolf Creek say hello) if you can handle it. "My favorite animal is the Shankapotamus" Having trouble hitting strait? I had trouble at first, because I have a broken controller, but the game factors in the upswing more. The biggest tip I have is the ALWAYS overswing ALL THE TIME. I’m not even bullshitting you, I overswing all the time, everytime. It works 60% of the time 100% of the time. See, when you drive, you can hold back the club for quite a bit before it releases. At this time look down at your crooked thumb. Practice makes perfect. All I can say... I’m like 120 wins to 4 losses in two player, and I’ve never need to do a fast/overswing to win. Getting an extra 10 yards at the risk of banging an “OoB” isn’t worth it. "You WON’T miss this putt, Jackass!" For putting, try my overswing method I’ll list below. Always use it if it’s a strait in putt... but you are on your own with tourney greens or massive curves, in which you should use the practice swing to nail that perfect perfect strait. Think to yourself if the putt preview looks like this... \ () \ | | It looks bad, especially if GameFAQs.com keeps these ugly double spaces in, but basically if your ball curves a little bit to the side, an Overswing will usually knock it in. I’ve purposely moved a perfect 67 putt preview to the left out of the hole 2 inches before and it went right in. Remember, it takes a lot of power to jump a hole, I’ve seen it happen 3 times in 300+ games I’ve played/seen played, but I’ll tell you this, I’ve seen my friend miss a shit ton more by trying to hit green/green, only to get a blue, and it stops dead short. Oh, and play with no backswing meter, this strat is A MUST for it. "How to score Coin" Always be on the internet and on EA servers. Would you believe I nailed a double eagle on my very first game, but is was worth nothing? Yea, gotta love it. You’ll get around 34-37 coins per hole. I know a hole in one is worth a solid 46. A big advantage is that Coins will save even if you manually quit. So if you beef a tiger challenge or a sponsor challenge, just keep going. It’s also not a bad idea to quit half way in a round if your internet sucks to avoid losing 600+ coins on hole 17 (Happened to me) Always play on the hardest settings you can, one that lets you bang eagles and double eagles the most. As I said before, always use black tees, and tall grass. Even on beginner, the difference between a prefect round on the white tees (perfect is birdies every hole, eagles on every par 5) is 590 to 610 to about 630-680 on the black tees. White tees will save you maybe a shot or two on your average golf course, so just go black... you'll never go back. "You just blew an eagle, how did that taste?" The best way to always have a makeable putt is to be close to the hole. Unless the flagstick is close the front of the green which holds a bunker or sand trap, ALWAYS try to undershoot the hole. You can always up spin into the hole, but if you hit farther than the hole, you are boned. If you are within 30 yards, or slightly off the green where you can’t putt (IE on the beach), I always try to underswing WHILE aiming short of the hole. Once you see the ball in the air, spin it a little bit in the direction to the hole. This will get you some chip in eagles or birdie savers time to time. DO NOT do that if you are down hill a lot, especially from a bunker. Remember a little while ago I told you about how elevation hurts you more at close range? Yea, don’t find out the hard way by hitting off the green a second time. Also, unlike other woods games, you hardly need to compensate for being in the rough or the sand as much as past games. "WTF is a Flop shot" New to Tiger 13 is the over powered Full swing. You have a near useless chip shot, a flop shot, a pitch, and a punch. Since you can drastically decrease your range on a full shot, it’s really hard to validate using anything else. If you are ever off the green, try to putt. Even if you miss, you’ll most likely be closer than if you tried to be a hero and used a flop or a chip. "Because **** Trees, that’s why" The punch shot is the only non full or putt you should try using, and only if you hit a tree. It’s the best way to hit the ball off Frankenstein’s fat foot if you should find yourself there. My rule of thumb is to never screw with trees. If you do and fail, learn from your mistakes. Thankfully I have a friend who like to always try to drive over those trees on the Par 5 Amen corner at the Masters, yeah, not a good idea. Many times with clustered trees, the game might down club you’re driver to an iron, most time you can chance it, but just so you know, unless you are playing the Predator, you can usually always make the green if you play it safe. Also remember to look to where the flag stick is before you hit it too far behind a tree. There is a hole in Blackwater and in the Highlands that can make you pay if you don’t. "Nothing fancy, just know the lie of the fairway" Short and simple, always look at the ground when you we are about to swing. Not by hitting down, but when you hit X to address the ball. If the slope makes you’re ball look it’s is on a slope that is facing diagonally right, aim a tad bit left. If you want to top my best round, with 2 double eagles, 1 hole in one, and a total of 13 putts, you’ll need to pay attention to that. Black tees by the way. "Pins are freaking useless" Pins cost coins, don’t buy them, EVER. By the time you actually get used to the game, they’ll all be useless, so don’t even worry about them at all. "How to break the game." If you really can’t stand to loss, and really need to Gold Master a course, you can break the game in two ways. Before I say this, I actually found this out by accident and frown on it. 1. You can quit and save, then reload the second you hit a hazard. I can only really see this being used if you are on a fake course. 2. Even dirtier, you can go to free play and say, select just par 5’s. Your welcome you stat padder. "Two Player FUn" If you have a challenger that can actually beat you, try to get him messed up first. Beer, etc. Or just turn it into a drinking game. 1 Drink for the Rough, 2 for the sand a Tree is 3, 4 for dropping a shot, 5 for a spectator. Drink on ties solo if you get beat on the hole. You’ll have a blast. Seriously, it sounds like a joke, but it's not. Ever go REAL golfing before? If you have, you'd know to have a couple cold ones in the cart. For playing Bingo Bango Bongo, ALWAYS hit shorter than your opponent to get the next shot to the green. I wouldn’t recommend playing St Andrews though… and throw some crazy wind on. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] ~Golding Courses Golding Courses is something that comes natural throughout gameplay, but naturally there are ways to abuse this system. First off, just like coins, you'll ALWAYS need to be online, on EA's servers, AND play by yourself. If you play with two players, even with the same controller, you'll still not get anything. The good news, is that you can aquire these throughout the game. Freeplay, the Tour, sponsor challenges, even Tiger's Legacy. There are 4 reasons to gold a course. 1. Free Coins. Starting courses offer 250 for a silver. It's not a windfall, but it's like a free 8 holes of golf. Downloadable courses offer 500 free coins, and sometimes a bonus 200 from a gold. 2. Free Pins. Golding courses give you a free pin pack. Starting courses offer a bunch of random, mostly garbage pins. Downloadable courses offer a refill pin, a random pin, and usually 3 course pins for the EA course. 3. Trophies. 4. Unlocking the EA course. You need to gold EVERY downloadable course, and if you are cheap like me and don't want to waste anymore money on this re- hashed game, it's going to take a LONG time... it's roughy 26-30 rounds to get a course. Each course as 8 things to do. --Hazards: Silver = 4 or Less/Gold = 0 The rough does not count as a hazard, everything else does. Water, sand, out of bounds, and lateral hazards all count. The easy way to do this is not to suck. The fake courses as in the High lands, the Greek Isles, the Predator, and the Emerald Dragon may prove a bit harder... so if you want an easy way, do the tour, and skip to an event you previous had to change in the past. Change it to one of these. Once done, easily save and quit if you touch anything but grass. --Final Score: Silver = -4/Gold = -6 This should come easy, especially if you go to free play on the red tees. You shouldn't have to use the save and load cheese, but that is an option. --Pars: Silver = 50/Gold = 100 Easy to get, but takes a while. It'll take at least 6 rounds. --Birdies: Silver = 15/Gold = 30 Another easy Gold, Should take 2 rounds if you are good. This should be gotten long before the Pars. --Eagles: Silver = 2/Gold = 5 I usually get this on my first/second round in most courses. For courses like Bethpage (with small amount of Par 5's), or the Fake Courses listed in the hazard part, you can either cheese it during the Tour (Like in the Greek Isles, the only Par 5 you're able to Eagle WITHOUT a cup out, is the 5th hole) by using the save/load trick. OR you can just play the par 5's in freeplay, over and over again. --One Putts: Silver = 10/Gold = 20 Easy to get by your second round, and if you are going to get the 30 birdies, you should get this well before that. --Fairways: Silver = 30/Gold = 60 Easy, most likely the 3rd last mastery you'll get. This can be boosted by nailing a FIR, then retrying challenges, but you really don't need to take. --Greens: Silver = 40/Gold = 80 Can't be boosted, but if you plan on getting birdies, you'll get this in no time. quite easy if you play a Par 5. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] ~Boost Pins Boost pins are the new gimmick in TW13. They increase stats and do numerous things. Only about 1% of them are even remotely useful though. You can usually equip up to three in a round, more if you have all 18 for a course unlocked. Pins can be bought WHICH YOU SHOULD NEVER DO! or gotten for free from golding courses. They come in booster pack styles, like football cards, so most of them are random. Also, if you try to abuse the save and load trick, which you also shouldn't do you'll lose any of them once you load up. Ok, so on with the checklist. If I list ??? it means I never got that pin so I'd have no clue what the stats are. Also, I'll list the level I have the pin at. Pins start as Bronze, then Silver, then Gold. Each time you get a Pin, you get 5 more uses. Max of 255 I believe. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Golfer Pins (Page 1) Golfer pins are pretty useless. They add a stat boost to whatever golfer you are using. The thing is, Golfers usually have solid stats, and you can only use them in Free Play. Free Play should be done as Two players, or with your own character... and if you have a friend over who doesn't use a golfer, they are either going to use Tiger, who has GRRRREEEEAAAAAAT stats or Paula Creamer, because damn is that girl sexy. Of course, they start you with the best one, the create a golfer one, which after a few rounds shouldn't be needed. 1. Paul Casey: Silver +11 to all stats 2. Ben Crane: Silver +14 to all stats 3. Hole 18 [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] ~Trophies Just like most playstation games, this game has numerous trophies. However, one very annoying thing, is that you need to have an online pass to get them all. Something I just won't do. Hell, most of them are one you'd just boost for, similar to Tiger 11 waiting an hour to get a 12 Vs 12 only to have 18 people drop after the first hole. Obviously the Plat Trophy unlocks after your final trophy bings. Just so you know, the Plat does NOT add to your Playstation Level. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Gameplay Trophies: Can be done on any mode, including freeplay. --Can you give me a Boost? (Bronze) This trophy is simiple, just play a round with pins equiped. You start with a few so you don't even have to buy any right off the bat. --Check out my Custom Settings (Bronze) You need to play a round using a custom difficulty setting. If you most stay on beginner, just turn off the back swing meter. Use my "always overswing" method to ease the pain. --Dig Deep (Silver) You need to get with in 3 feet of the flagstick from the sand. This will come in time, I find it's easier to cup out than to actually land close. Use my underswing method, then remember to do a last second roll to get close. --From the Ladies Tees (Bronze) Play a round on the red tees. Easy trophy. --Going Green with a Hybrid (Bronze) You need to land on the green using a crap hybrid club from over 175 yards away. They start you with a Hybrid, so before you throw it away, try for this on any par 5. --He's going the distance (Gold) You need to drive for over 400 yards. Few holes this can be done on. Wolf Creek, East Lake, The Highlands, etc. But you need to make sure you have the wind BLASTING. For the best results, but it on Gale Force winds and select Wolf Creek once you download it. The very first hole is up a ton of feet, so if the wind is blowing straight up, quit and load. Also, max power and an overswing. Personal record is 429ish from the black tees on the 3rd par 5 in the highlands, it's up 80+ feet, and you can easily crack the bridge that will glitch your ball extremely far sometimes. --It's all in the Hips (Bronze) You need to sink a 40 foot putt for this one. Best done on St Andrews, as the greens are FREAKING huge. Using the +Preview pin can help. My record in this game is a 67, in Tiger 11 it was 107 on Wentworth, go me! --Like a Homing Pigeon (Bronze) You need to be in a fairway and nail a very close approach from over 150 feet away. Takes time, but that "Fairway" thing mean you can't do this on a par 3... but if I can hole in one a par 4 from the black tees, I think you'll be able to get this one in no time. --Like a Metronome (Bronze) You need to bang 10 perfect tempo swing while playing on the highest two skill settings. If you are worried about your stats, use Tiger. --Putt from the rough (Bronze) You need to make a putt in from the rough to make this trophy. The best tip if this doesn't come naturally is to play the Greek Isles course after you unlock it. It's a fake cousre, so you'll off slide right off the greens. The very first hole has a flagstick VERY close to the rough. Also since it may be hard to see the backswing meter, always try to use my overswing strat. --Shouting at Amen Corner (Silver) Holes 11, 12, and 13 are in the Masters cousre. You just need the birdie each of the. 11, a par 4 and 13, and par 5 should be easy, but the 13th, an par 3 is a bullshit hole. Why? It has impossible to figure out rotating wind. The negate wind pin can help. If you REALLY want to cheese this, play this course in the PGA tour, although you can't spin, you can manually quit if you beef a putt then reload. --So Much Easier than Putting (Silver) Eagle a par 3. Yes, that means a hole in one. I have 5 after like 130 rounds, and 2 with Tiger during his challenge modes. Nothing I can say beside roll to the hole. & Luck. If you want extra help, you can just play the par 3's in a course via freeplay. --Swing and a miss (Silver) Aim your red target WAY above the ball. Bam, trophy. Make sure you do this with Tiger, because you'll drop a shot. --That was GIRrrreat! (Bronze) Get all the Green In Regs. If you have trouble, play St Andrews from the Ladies tees with no wind. You almost have to try not to get it as the greens are MASSIVE. --Tigers have FIR (Bronze) Get all the Fairways In Regs. If you have trouble, turn off wind and use Irons as they are harder to shank with and won't roll into the rough. --It's a Start (Bronze) Master 1 course, read my section on Golding Courses. --Now we're talking (Bronze) Master 8 courses, see above. --Like a Boss (Gold) Master 16 Courses, see above. Remember that there are many courses out there, but the game just comes with 16. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Story Mode Trophies: I call it story mode, but these are all tour related. --Don't quit your day job (Bronze) You need to win the Masters as a Rookie. This is missable as you can only do this once. If you have trouble, set the opponents to easy and abuse the save and quit option if you do bad on a hole. --I Own this Place (Silver) After getting to #1 in EA's standings, you need to win the Masters or any round that has a "Red Dot" on the Map. --King of the Hill (Bronze) You need to get #1 in the EA standings. As long as you keep winning rounds, you'll get this be no later than your second year. The game screwed me, I skipped the Nationwide tour, and Tiger had ALL the wins for all the rounds I skipped. If this happens, just make sure Tiger doesn't win again. When you get to Rank 2 or 3, you'll have to actually go side by side Tiger. Which is annoying because you have to waste time skipping his turn. --Top 10 Hits (Bronze) Read above. --Top 50 Countdown (Bronze) Read above. --Never leave home without it (Bronze) Earn PGA tour Card, I forget how I got this, but just keep nailing 1st and you should get this. --That was Easy (Gold) You need to score under a 63 in the Masters to get that. That's a -10. Save and load if you have trouble. --One Small Step for Mankind (Bronze) Win the Masters, if you can do the above, you should probably win as well. --Unstoppable! (Bronze) Same as above, just do it 6 more times. Remember to play rounds before the Masters, then skip the rest of the season if you really want to unlock this quick. --When do we get paid? (Bronze) You need to play and win a Rookie event. Actually, the Trophy says just to play, but go ahead and win any ways incase it's a typo. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Tiger Legacy: These Trophies are for the Tiger Challenges in the game. Luckily they give you coins for FUll holes played. I'm not going to go through all of them, but here are some tips: +For challenge where you have to land in a circle, everytime you retry, the wind will change. +When you need to land multiple times somewhere, retry after you're first miss, or retry on your last attempt if it's a single land, as it will save you from the load times. +I hate the toddlers, because their irons don't have enough lift. Always try to use loft (by putting your target lower). +When playing Vs someone, always try, I've found that most opponents get easier if you let them win against you, so if you are going to lose, finish the round to save coins as well. +So don't need to do the last two pages. The record books is a 1v1 through 18 holes, that unlocks 6 bonus challenges, which just unlock Little Rory and Ricky. +The challenge is very random. At the end of the Tiger Slam one, if I rememeber correctly, you'll need to go -8 in 7 holes. Not only does that mean birdying every hole, but you need an eagle. There is no other challenge that requires an eagle. But through the next two
era's of Tiger, you'll have to just Birdie par 5's... yea easy.

Online Trophies: I'm not even going to lie, I never going to do these, or
