Acknowledgements O~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~O ____________| |___________ ============| I. INTRODUCTION |=========== ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ O~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~O Welcome to my Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends walkthrough, where I will guide you on finishing all of the Hero and Legend Scenarios in the game. DW7: Xtreme Legends introduces three new playable characters to the universe (two new and one returning from a previous entry), as well as give new weapons to a few other officers. O~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~O ____________| |___________ ============| II. GAME BASICS |=========== ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ O~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~O When you begin the game, you have the option to choose a few different things, such as Legends Mode, Challenge Mode and Remix. The Remix option has to do with the original Dynasty Warriors 7, if you have it. By having save data on your PS3, all characters will be playable from the beginning, but there's something extra. When you are asked to, swap the XL disc with the DW7 disc and you will gain access to both Story and Conquest Modes, which are only available via this method. Remixing also allows you to play Story Mode with two players, as well as make the new characters available in Conquest Mode, in both playable form and having them appear. Stats and character levels are also carried over when Remixing. .------------------. ======| Challenge Mode | '------------------' Challenge Mode is a collection of mini-games, where the main objective is to beat the first place score. Note that players are restricted to using certain weapons, can't use Seals, and have their stats set at certain values. There is a total of four different mini-games, which are as follows: - ARENA - Fight against all other playable characters in the game, with a 20 minute time limit. It ends once the timer runs out or the player's life is depleted. - BRIDGE MELEE - Players are put in an area high up on towers and they must enemies off the ledge. Note that enemies have infinite health in this challenge. It ends once the 10-minute timer runs out, the player's health is depleted, or if the player falls off. - SPEED RUN - This is similar to Guan Yu's Escape in Legend Mode, except it is timed. Players must go from one end of the stage to the other, defeating any officers in the way, which will open up locked gates. It ends when the player reaches the end or if the player's health is depleted. - RAMPAGE - Players will need to defeat as many enemies as they can within 10 minutes. It ends when either time runs out or the player's health reaches zero. There is a special instance during both BRIDGE MELEE and RAMPAGE, which happens when Lu Bu appears and is defeated. This causes an item to show up, which will refill both the player's health and musou gauges to full, as well as spawn a bunch of enemies. Lu Bu also appears in the other two challenges, but more as a hindrance and without any special properties like the above. .---------------. ======| Legend Mode | '---------------' Legends Mode begins with you choosing a playable character, as well as your Adjutant. You are then put into a castle-like setting, which is in shambles. As you win battles, this castle area will start being built back up, to where you will even welcome the Emperor, which is the main goal of Legend Mode. There are various NPCs that provide services to the player, some of which are available at the beginning and some that are unlocked as you expand the castle area. These NPCs are as follows (those marked with a * are available from the beginning): - Counsellor* - Lets you change your Adjutant - Blacksmith* - Leave a weapon with an unlearned Seal with this NPC. Once you defeat enough officers in battle, it will become available. - Weapons Dealer* - Sells you weapons. Not all weapons can be bought. - Strategist - Sells you scrolls that increase a character's life, attack, defense, proficiency with either type of weapons, and skill points - Merchant - Talking to this NPC will make him go on a trip to one of the areas he lists. Upon completing a battle and talking to him again, he will give you either a treasure worth a certain amount of gold, a weapon, or one of the animals you can use in battle. .----------------. ======| New Features | '----------------' There are a few new features that weren't in previous games, such as Titles. As characters fulfill special objectives in battles, they will earn Titles, which bestow permanent buffs for that character. Once they gain their last Title, they will be able to don a special costume. There is a new difficulty added to the game, called Nightmare. This is the toughest difficulty in the game and there are a few things exclusive to it. For example, the soldiers that carry the banners will bestow random buffs to officers, such as increased attack or defense. Also, pots containing health items have it reduced to a single Meat Bun, while full recovery items are instead reduced to musou recovery ones. O~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~O ____________| |___________ ============| III. HERO SCENARIOS |=========== ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ O~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~O The Hero Scenarios are battles that concentrate on the characters that didn't appear in the Story modes in Dynasty Warriors 7, as well as those who are new to this game (Guo Jia, Wang Yi and the returning Pang De). .---------------------------------. ======| A. Rise of the Yellow Turbans | (A101) '---------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 1/10 Not long into the stage, you'll find out that some bandits are rampaging through the area. They are on the western and eastern sides of the map, with them harassing peasants on the east side, so head there first. Defeat the officer there and he'll join your army, with the same thing happening in the west. With those two finished, start cleaning up the officers in the middle of the map, which includes the likes of Dian Wei and Taishi Ci. Also, some reinforcements will appear, consisting of a normal officer, Ma Chao and Pang De. Start clearing them out as you begin moving to the south and towards Dong Zhuo. Defeat the officer in front of the main camp to open the gates, then defeat Dong Zhuo to finish the battle. .--------------------------. ======| B. Escape from Luoyang | (A102) '--------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 1/10 You are in charge of protecting the carriage, which houses the Emperor. That means you need to stay with it at pretty much all times. Defeat the officers before the first gate, with Cao Ren's demise actually opening the gate. When you get to the second area, you'll notice that a friendly officer is fighting off to the east (normally Lu Bu, but will be Diao Chan if using Lu Bu). If you hurry, you should be able to rescue the officer without too much worry about the carriage taking a lot of damage. As you approach the second gate, Xiahou Yuan will spring an archer attack on the area, but it will cease with his defeat. Defeating him will also open the second gate, but Liu Bei, Zhang Fei and Guan Yu will appear a little to the south once Xiahou Yuan is gone. It's also a wise idea to defeat any other officers in the area, so as to make the trip for the carriage peaceful. When the carriage gets to the mountain pass, it will slow down due to the space. As it gets closer to the exit, some officers will spawn nearby, so defeat them before the carriage has a chance to move too far. After leaving the passage, head east to defeat Cao Cao and open up the escape point for the carriage. .-------------------------------------. ======| C. The Assassination of Dong Zhuo | (A103) '-------------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 1/10 As soon as you exit the base camp, you'll be spotted by three officers of Dong Zhuo. Defeat them and then start advancing to the north. As you approach the main keep, you'll be told to proceed quietly without letting any of the guards inside catching you. Note that this only applies to your character (if you're not using Diao Chan), as Diao Chan can freely move without getting caught at all it seems. If you do get caught by one of the officers, quickly defeat them before the rest of them take notice. Defeat them quick enough and you will remain unnoticed by everyone else. Once you make it past the four officers in the area, you'll in the clear and can continue on like normal. It's best to clear the area in front of Dong Zhuo's chambers before heading to the door, as there are quite a few officers there. Once you do, go up to the door where Dong Zhuo is located and Diao Chan's father will open it for you. Now, all that's left to do is defeat Dong Zhuo to finish the battle. .--------------------------. ======| D. Rescue of Kong Rong | (A104) '--------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 2/10 This is a two-part stage, with the first part taking place on the northern path out of the starting base. Go north and into the first base with an enemy officer, who will make a messenger appear just north of the locked door. In order to get the messenger, you need to quickly defeat the officer inside the base. If you defeat the officer fast enough, the gate will open and you should be able to catch the messenger. If not, then the messenger will go to each base, alert the guards and block your progress for now. Either way, you will have to go the same way, but the messenger will make things slightly more complicated. Once you make it your the garrison, the second part of the stage will begin. With Liu Bei now as reinforcements, it's time to rescue Kong Rong, who is located in the southwest corner of the map. Break through the garrison and then head to the west, going through the Upper-South Checkpoint. When you do, Zhang Liao will appear in the southeast and it's only a matter of time before Lu Bu will also show his face. For now, head to the southwest corner and go inside the castle to rendezvous with Kong Rong. This will trigger him to start moving towards the southeast corner. If there's any officers in the way, clear the path for him. When Kong Rong gets there, Lu Bu will show up (he's the same as any other officer), so defeat him to make Kong Rong escape. .-----------------------. ======| E. Imperial Defense | (A105) '-----------------------' DIFFICULTY - 2/10 At the beginning of the battle, climb the ladder in front of you and then head into the palace. As you make your way to the throne room, some officers will spawn nearby. You can only defeat three of the officers for now, as the rest are behind closed doors that can't be opened straight away. When Cai Yong gets close to the throne room, he will comment how the Emperor is ok and then tell you to go outside and secure an escape route. The central gates that lead to out of the castle will now open, so go south and defeat the officers still inside. With them cleared, go outside and take out Sun Ce, Sun Quan and Sun Jian, all of whom are right outside the castle. After their defeat, Yuan Shao and a few other officers appear, with one of them in an area you can't access yet. As you're fighting with Yuan Shao, Lu Bu will appear inside of the castle, prompting Wen Chou and Yuan Shao to retreat. Go through the gate Wen Chou came out of and start moving towards Lu Bu, who has entered the throne room and shut himself inside. As you enter the western gate of the castle, Cao Cao and some of his officers will show up to get in your way. Defeat both Xiahou Yuan and Xiahou Dun, then go after Cao Cao to open the Hall West Doors. You'll see Diao Chan guarding the doors to the throne room, with Zhang Liao in the room to the south. Defeat Diao Chan to get inside the throne room, then finish off Lu Bu to complete the battle. .------------------------. ======| F. Battle of Jieqiao | (A106) '------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 2/10 In order to set up the archer units to attack the cavalry, you're going to have to defeatthe front officers on the map. There aren't too many you need to defeat, despite there being plenty close to where you start out. If finished quickly enough, the archers will decimate the enemy cavalry when it is sent out. With the cavalry finished, it's time to start heading to the enemy main camp. However, Zhao Yun will appear on the east side of the map and start heading to your own main camp, so hurry over to him and quickly defeat him. It shouldn't be long after that when Liu Bei will appear close to Gongsun Zan, along with Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. Both Zhang Fei and Guan Yu will start heading towards your main camp, so intercept them and take them out. If there's any other officers left on the map, clean them up and then head to the enemy main camp. Take out Liu Bei first, then it should be easy to defeat Gongsun Zan to finish the battle. .-----------------------------. ======| G. Defense of Xuan Castle | (A107) '-----------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 2/10 At the beginning of the battle, the Shanyue is attacking the supply depot and you must get over to it and make sure they don't capture it. Once you defend it, the armory will now be under attack and around the same time, Guo Jia will appear outside of the castle with some of Cao Cao's forces. It's best to save your armory first, which will trigger another event, where a fire attack unit will head to the supply depot, so go and save that again. Once those are over, you can head towards Cao Cao's troops and start taking them out one by one. To complicate things even more, Xiahou Yuan and Xiahou Dun will show up and start heading towards the main camp. Luckily, Sun Ce will come back from his trip and you can rendezvous with him after defeating all of the enemies inside of the castle. This includes Cao Cao's forces, as well as the rest of the Shanyue. Once everything is clear, all that's left to do is head to the enemy main camp and defeat Pan Lin to finish the battle. .-----------------------. ======| H. Battle for Xiapi | (A108) '-----------------------' DIFFICULTY - 2/10 In order to cause havoc among the enemy troops, you need to go and free Cao Bao from his imprisonment. He is guarded by two officers, so defeat them both and he will help out by sending the rest of the officers inside the castle to the south. This gives you a clear shot at Zhang Fei, without having to worry about any other officers getting in the way. Your overall goal now is to defeat the rest of the officers, including Zhang Fei, in the castle before Liu Bei comes back. Start with Zhang Fei and then start heading south to the rest of them. If you manage to defeat them all, Liu Bei and Guan Yu will appear as soon as you do. It's best to take out the officers in the south first (Guan Yu included), then head north and finish off Liu Bei to end the battle. .-------------------------------. ======| I. Campaign against Liu Bei | (A109) '-------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 3/10 Your first order of business is to capture the eastern and central garrisons. However, when you get close to the eastern one, arrows will begin being shot down from the base to the east of it. You can still capture the eastern garrison, but it's best to go and stop the arrow attack right after to limit the damage caused by it. The same thing happens when you get close to the central garrison, so go after the arrow attack unit first, since it is closer. Capture the central garrison and Guo Jia will make some engineers appear. These will need to escorted to their objective, which is the castle gates, however some troops of Yuan Shao's will appear close to your main camp. You're now stuck with a choice, but if you're fast enough, you can do both. The obvious choice is to go after Zhang He and Yuan Shao's troops first, since they're close to the main camp. Once you defeat all three officers, rush back and escort the engineers to the castle gates. As you arrive near the castle, Liu Bei will escape and now Guan Yu will become the enemy commander. In order to open the castle for attack, you must first defeat the officers in front of the castle. Once you do that, a catapult will appear, so use it to destroy the gate on the east side. When that is finished, all that's left to do is go inside and take out Guan Yu to finish. .--------------------------. ======| J. Battle of Mt. Xisai | (A110) '--------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 3/10 At the beginning of the battle, Sun Ce orders to get some territory of their own, which will highlight four of the bases on the map. Go to the one just north first, then head to the northernmost one second. Around that time, you should get a warning that Cao Cao's reinforcements are on their way, so you'll need to hurry to take the remaining bases. What is supposed to happen is that you capture all four bases before Cao Cao's troops arrive, which will trigger your own men to go into hiding inside of the bases you captured. When Cao Cao's men arrive, they will go to the four bases and your own forces will launch surprise attacks on all of them. Go around and defeat them all, then start making your way to the enemy main camp. Defeat any other officers in your way, then head inside the main camp to have Liu Xun spring some ambush troops on you. Take them out if you want, then defeat Liu Xun to finish the battle. .---------------------------------. ======| K. Campaign against the Yuans | (A111) '---------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 3/10 The Yuan family is standing united, but Guo Jia says that going after Yuan Xi first will put a wrench into their plans. Start heading towards him, defeating any officers in your way. You'll eventually come to Wu Yan, who is guarding a locked gate, so take him out to open it and carry onwards to Yuan Xi. There will be another locked gate, so defeat the officer in the way and continue climbing to the top. Defeat Yuan Xi to make his brothers start quarreling, which will halt their troops' movements. Around this time, you'll hear of Liu Biao troops expected to arrive soon in the southeast corner. Ignore it for now and head towards Yuan Shang in the northeast corner after cleaning up the central area of any officers that are remaining. When you get there, defeat Yuan Shang and now Yuan Tan will power up and being advancing again (the last brother remaining does this). It is also likely that Liu Biao has arrived in the southeast corner, bringing with him both Liu Bei and Zhang Fei. They will begin moving towards your main camp, so go and cut them off, defeating all three. All that's left now is to march to Yuan Tan and defeat him to end the battle. .------------------------------. ======| L. Prayer Ceremony Defense | (A112) '------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 3/10 At the beginning of the battle, you'll be tasked with making sure that Zhuge Liang is escorted to the altar for the prayer. Keep close to him and defeat any officers who might get in the way. When he arrives, Jia Xu will become suspicious of the whole thing and sent some officers to interrupt the prayer. It is at the same time that Zhang Liao will begin advancing on your main camp, but stick with Zhuge Liang for now. Defeat all of the enemy and officers that make their way down, including Cai Wenji and Xu Huang. After they are gone, Jia Xu and the rest of the officers to the north will come down, so defeat them, too. With that out of the way, defeat the rest of the officers to the east to finish the battle. .---------------------------------. ======| M. Tong Gate Defensive Battle | (A113) '---------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 4/10 Being by heading towards the central garrisons and capturing them, which will ensure that the Liang cavalry get into position. Once you clear both of the garrisons out, all that's left is to rely on Han Sui's assault. However, it seems Cao Cao got to him first and this prompts Jia Xu to head to Han Sui's location, which will make him defect to Wei. At around the same time, some enemy reinforcements will appear, but ignore that and head straight to Jia Xu. You want to defeathim before he manages to reach Han Sui and if done right, Han Sui will remain on your side and continue battling. With that finished, go back to the middle of the battlefield and clear the reinforcements from earlier. Fight through all of the troops until you reach Cao Cao's main camp. Defeat the officer outside in order to open the gates to the main camp, then head inside. Defeat Xu Zhu if you want, then go after Cao Cao and finish him off to put an end to the battle. .---------------------------------. ======| N. Defense of Yangping Castle | (A114) '---------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 4/10 There isn't a set mission for you at the beginning of the battle, so just go south and drive back the Wei forces. Not too long into the battle, you'll get a report that the Wei forces are targeting the supply depot, so head on over in that direction. Defeat the two officers going towards the supply depot in order to make it safe again. Note that while going for the supply depot officers, Xiahou Yuan will appear in the northwest corner and start heading to your main camp. So, once you're done with Xu Zhu and the other officer going after your supply depot, rush back to your main camp and quickly defeat Xiahou Yuan. With that out of the way, make your way around the rest of the battlefield and take out any other officers harassing your own forces. There will be a few in the southwest, as well as one or two remaining in the southcentral. After defeating them all, head to Cao Cao and defeat him to end the battle. .------------------------------. ======| O. Reinforcements at Hefei | (A115) '------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 4/10 At the beginning of the battle, Cao Pi orders you to eliminate all of the officers in the vicinity of the Hefei area, of which there are only two. This will send Zhang Liao in hiding and you will need to distract the enemy by capturing the garrison in the southwest corner. When you get there, defeat Ling Tong to capture it. As you begin moving east, Sun Quan's main forces will start moving southwest and you will need to stay away from them in order for the plan to work. It isn't too long after this that Zhang Liao will spring his ambush on the main forces. This will cause Sun Quan to move southeast now, where he will withdraw from the battle once Lianshi shows up. With Sun Quan withdrawing from the battle, the new enemy commander is now Lianshi. Note that Lu Meng will likely appear north of Lianshi's position around the time she does and then Gan Ning will appear in the north area afterwards. Clean up the rest of the officers on the map if you like, then head to Lianshi and defeat her to finish the battle. .-----------------------------. ======| P. Conflict at Wan Castle | (A116) '-----------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 4/10 Your goal at the beginning of the battle is to rescue Hou Yin from Wan Castle, so head north and into that area. In order to actually rescue him, you'll need to defeat the four officers in the Wan Castle area. Note that if you approach the bridge in the northeast that leads to the eastern area, Xu Huang will advance onto your position. Once you rescue Hou Yin, some of the Wei forces will advance from the north and south. Defeat the officers up north and then head south to the other troops, as they will likely start approaching your main camp. Around this time, Jia Xu will likely have begun advancing, so after clearing the area around your main camp, start heading east and defeat him. With him out of the way, head to the northeast corner and defeat Cao Ren to finish the battle. .------------------------. ======| Q. Battle of Ruxukou | (A117) '------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 5/10 Cao Pi orders you to surround the castle at the beginning of the battle, which is done by defeating the four officers on all sides; Zhu Zhi, Zhuge Jin, Pan Zhang and Sun Shao. Since you start on the eastern side of the map, go and defeat Zhu Zhi first, as he is the closest. After defeating him, ambush troops will appear all around the map, close to the officers you needed to kill. Continue fighting until you are ordered to retreat by Cao Pi. Although this is optional, go around the entirety of the castle's perimeter and rescue your allies by defeating the officers they're fighting, making sure you start with Cao Pi first. While you're doing this, it is likely that Gan Ning will appear as reinforcements, as well as Ding Feng. With there being a lot of enemies likely still on the map, make sure you concentrate on those around Cao Pi first, as he is your commander. Since Gan Ning and Ding Feng are bigger threats than normal officers, defeat them first. The main forces inside of the castle will also begin pursuit, as well as Lu Xun, who arrives from the north. Once you arrive at the escape point, Zhou Tai will appear, so defeat him to finish the battle. .----------------------------. ======| R. Battle of Xiping Gate | (A118) '----------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 6/10 Sima Yi orders the bridge on the east side of the map to be repaired, which is being done by engineers. To bide the time for this, you need to defend the two garrisons that are highlighted on the map. Just go to each one and defeat the officers that approach, which will likely lead to the bridge being repaired. As soon as it is, Sima Yi gets an assault unit together and has it heading south. You should head over there now and help with the escort, as not far after it begins moving, Ma Chao will appear near there. Defeat him and then continue south and west. It is likely that there is a gathering of officers in the north, so it might be wise to head up there and clear it out. Once everything is clear, head to the southwest corner and defeat Zhuge Liang to finish the battle. .---------------------------. ======| S. Showdown at Nanzhong | (A119) '---------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 6/10 At the beginning of the battle, some of your allies are in trouble right outside of your main base, so go and defeat the enemy officers that they are fighting to rescue them. As soon as you finish rescuing the last one, you get a report that the Shu forces are heading for your supply depot. There will be two officers heading towards the supply depot, one of which is Guan Suo. Note that you have to take the southern of the two paths to reach the depot, as the northern one goes under a bridge that leads to it. While you're doing this, Yue Ying will likely appear and start summoning her Juggernauts. Ignore that for now and see if any officers are close to your main camp, because if so, take them out before heading in Yue Ying's direction. If you take out the Juggernauts, they will keep reappearing, so you will need to defeat Yue Ying to completely stop them in their tracks. At some point in time, Ma Dai will decide to start heading directly to your main camp, so cut him off once you cleaned up the Juggernaut situation. With everything above out of the way, head to Zhuge Liang and defeat him to end the battle. .---------------------------. ======| T. Conflict at Nanzhong | (A120) '---------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 7/10 It's time to rescue some allies of yours at the beginning, as they are being attacked by some of Shu's forces. Head to the northwest corner first and defeat Yue Ying to rescue your ally there, then head to the next base to find Guan Suo. Defeat him and there will be one last ally to rescue in the central garrison. When you get there, the gates close and an ambush unit led by Zhang Yi appears, so defeat him to open the gates back up. As you're rescuing your allies, some officers on the enemy side will begin moving towards your main camp. It is imperative you rescue your allies first and then once done, go after these officers. All that's left after this is to defeat Zhuge Liang, but as you approach the enemy main camp, Zhao Yun will appear. Defeat him first, then go after Zhuge Liang to finish the battle. .-------------------------. ======| U. Battle of Nanzhong | (A121) '-------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 7/10 Begin the battle by going east with Yue Ying. When you get to the first base, defeat Jinhuan Sanjie to open the blocked path, then continue your advance. Keep going, doing the same with the next garrison, until you see Zhuge Liang order a retreat. However, this isn't for you, so continue advancing along the path set for you. Meng Huo will appear once the other Shu forces start withdrawing, so go to the northeast corner and defeat the officer there to execute the pincer attack. This will cause Yue Ying to spawn some Juggernauts, but you can't use them yourself. Anyways, head into the middle of the map and start clearing out the large gathering of officers there. Defeat Meng Huo in the center of the battlefield and he will then retreat into the main camp at the north end. Once you're done with the rest of the enemy officers in the center, head to the enemy main camp and clear the two officers there, one of which is Zhu Rong. After that, go and defeat Meng Huo to finish the battle. .------------------------. ======| V. Battle of Shiting | (A122) '------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 7/10 At the start of the battle, follow Ling Tong as he goes east and then north, into the castle. There will be two officers that are highlighted on your map, so go ahead and defeat them both. Once you do, head towards the western gate of the castle and cut off Zhang He, who will be heading to Zhang Liao and tell him about the attack. Once Zhang He is finished, start heading towards the north gate to help out Lu Xun. When you get there, Lu Xun will mention that you will need to clear the area of officers, specifically Cao Ren, before meeting up with Zhou Fang. After it's over, Zhou Fang will open the gate and let you inside the castle. Don't move too far from the gate that Zhou Fang opened, though, as Sima Yi will appear in the northwest corner and make a beeline towards your main camp. With Sima Yi out of the way, make your way to Zhang Liao and defeat him, then go to Cao Xiu's position. The end of the battle will commence once you take out Cao Xiu. .------------------------. ======| W. Battle of Jieting | (A123) '------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 7/10 Ma Su has trapped himself by positioning at the top of the mountain. Thus, your first task in the battle is to rescue Ma Su, but that can't be done until you defeat all of the officers in the vicinity of the mountain summit. There's nothing too troublesome, although one of the officers is Zhang He. Once you defeat them all, you'll finally rescue Ma Su and he will begin going towards the escape point. Note that as you're trying to get to the escape point, Sima Yi will begin sending officers after you. Xiahou Ba will likely be the first officer you come across on the escape route, with a lot more coming in from the north. Keep track of Ma Su and should any enemy officers come across him, defeat them so he can continue moving to the escape point. Once he gets there, the battle will finish. .------------------------. ======| X. Battle for Mt. Qi | (A124) '------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 8/10 Zhuge Liang has a plan for this battle, which starts by you escorting Wu Yi's fire attack to Mt. Qi. You won't be able to enter it through the gate, since it is locked from the inside, so you will need to go east and then west again to get inside the garrison there. When you get to the gate that was locked before, defeat the officer there to make sure it gets opened, then start heading up the mountain to Mt. Qi. Defeat the officer guarding the gate to the base, then head inside and take out Sima Shi to capture it. When Wu Yi gets to it, he will set it ablaze and this will trigger the Wei forces to start advancing. It is likely at this point that a lot of enemy officers will be approaching your main camp, so it's best to head over that way and clear it out. There are also a lot of other officers on the map, so go around and defeat them as well. When you enter the castle, Zhuge Liang will chime in and say to destroy the siege weapons, of which there are only two on the southern wall. Go up the stairs and destroy them, then defeat Sima Yi to finish the battle. .-----------------------------------------. ======| Y. Withdrawal from the Wuzhang Plains | (A125) '-----------------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 8/10 You will need to find and rescue Wei Yan, since he seems to not be listening to Wei Yan about retreating. At the beginning, however, there is more than just Wei Yan that needs rescuing, as there are a number of highlighted areas you need to go to rescue some of your own officers. There is a total of seven and all you have to do is defeat the accompanying enemy officers. After rescuing a few of your fellow allies, Jiang Wei will order the retreat of the Shu forces, although he will eventually stop and wait. When he stops, Deng Ai will appear and attempt to stop the escape. It's pointed out that one of the officers saw Wei Yan headed inside of the enemy main camp, so go inside and you'll find him fighting with Sima Shi. Defeat him to finish the battle. .----------------------. ======| Z. Defend Dongxing | (A126) '----------------------' DIFFICULTY - 9/10 The battle begins with a large problem, as there are a number of Wei officers nearby your main camp, as well as some more on the way. Defeat all of the easier ones first, then go after the ones approaching the main camp. You know when the time is right when Lian Shi suggests ambushing the Wei forces from the cliffs. The correct path to get to the cliffs is blocked by Han Zong, so head to the southern garrison and then go east from there. Han Zong is in the southeastern garrison and once he is defeated, the gates will open up and you will be able to ambush the Wei troops below. Defeat all of the officers around Sima Zhao, then go after his head to finish the battle. .-----------------------------. ======| AA. Invasion of Guanzhong | (A127) '-----------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 9/10 In order to get into the castle, you will need to destroy the southeast and southwest gates. However, there are plenty of defenses in front of both gates, so you will need to clear them of all of Wei's troops. Doing this will spawn a battering ram that will destroy the gates, allowing the Shu troops (as well as yourself) to enter the castle. As you're going about destroying both of the gates, it is likely that the Qiang Tribe will have defected and will begin moving towards your main camp. Finish up with the gates, then head to stop the Qiang Tribe, which consists of three officers. Not far inside the eastern half of the castle, archers will appear on the walkways above, so you will need to go around and up some stairs to get to the officer and two lieutenants that will stop the archer attack. Likewise, in the north part of the western section, Deng Ai will use pyrocannons to attack the Shu forces. Around this time, the main forces of Wei will arrive, which will make the enemy commander now Sima Zhao. Some of those forces will go down the western side of the map and go for your main camp, so make sure you stop them, one of which is Zhong Hui. Once you finish with them, make your way to the enemy main camp and defeat Sima Zhao to finish the battle. .-------------------------. ======| BB. Battle of Taoyang | (A128) '-------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 10/10 There's no enemies inside of the castle at the very beginning of the battle, however, going forward a bit will make a bunch appear. Defeat the officers in the vicinity, then make your way to Zhong Hui, whose defeat will open up the gates and allow you to go further. In the next area, you'll see some enemy pyrocannons, as well as one that you can use. You don't really need it, but feel free to use it if you like. Your goal here is to defeat Chen Tai to open the next set of gates, where you'll encounter a Wei ambush in the next area, as well as in the northern section of the area. There will be a ballista here and it will be easier to capture it than destroy it, so defeat the officer nearby and use it to kill some enemies in the area if you'd like. Continue to the north section and do the same thing with the second ballista, then keep going around and killing any officers nearby. Once you step into the final area, there will be another ambush. Defeat Deng Ai to finish the battle. .----------------------------------. ======| CC. Campaign against Zhong Hui | (A129) '----------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 10/10 At the beginning of the battle, just start going around and defeating any enemies in the way, until Liu Shan says to go to the southwestern garrison. Defeat the officer inside and you will discover some Juggernauts, although you don't really need them. Liu Shan's next stop is the center of the map, so you can go north to where Jiang Shu is and drop down from there. Inside of the area there, defeat the officer to free Zhang Yi, who will join your forces. Eventually, Jiang Wei will be drawn out and will start moving towards Liu Shan, so just wait in the middle of the battlefield until he comes to you. Defeat Jiang Wei and a good number of troops will now defect, leaving nothing bu Zhong Hui's forces left. There shouldn't be too many officers left on the map, and they will likely dwindle even more when two of the officers near Zhong Hui defect. Since they are now on your side, they will likely defeat the rest of the officers surrounding Zhong Hui, leaving only him behind. When you manage to get there, defeat Zhong Hui to finish the battle. O~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~O ____________| |___________ ============| IV. LEGEND SCENARIOS |=========== ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯| |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ O~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~O Legend Scenarios are battles from past Dynasty Warriors games, but revised to reflect the changes with the Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends systems. .------------------------------------. ======| A. Battle of Hulao Gate (Allied) | (B101) '------------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 1/10 The main goal of the battle is to break through Hulao Gate and defeat Dong Zhuo, once and for all. There aren't any missions or orders given, until near the end, so you are free to choose how to go about this battle in your own way. It's best to stick to the paths with the enemy officers, so your own officers will follow right behind and not get slowed down. Once you get to Hulao Gate itself, you will need to defeat the four officers in front of it. There are two gate entrances and defeating one of the two pairs will make a ram appear and heads towards the gate. Do this with both to break open the gates, which will trigger the appearance of Lu Bu. Unlike previous games, he is not any different than normal playable officers. Defeat him and head to Dong Zhuo, taking him out to finish the battle. .-----------------------------------. ======| B. Battle of Hulao Gate (Lu Bu) | (B102) '-----------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 1/10 You must eliminate all of the Allied main officers, of which there are five, but the overall goal is to defeat all of the officers. They are Liu Bei, Sun Quan, Dong Zhuo, Yuan Shao and Zhang Jiao. For starters, clear out the area in front of Hulao Gate, since there will be some officers fighting in front of it. Once Hulao is cleared, start heading towards either Liu Bei or Sun Quan, as they are the closest objectives. Note they have two or three officers with them, so be careful. When one has been defeated, do the same to the other and then stick to the northern checkpoint for the single officer reinforcement. Next up is the garrison located to the east, which is placed on a small hill. It is likely that around this time, Cao Cao will appear in the southwest corner. He will be one of the last to be defeated, so continue on with Yuan Shao's and Dong Zhuo's men, then go after them next. More reinforcements will come, so chase them down and get rid of them. Head into the middle of the battlefield now and take out Zhang Jiao and his brothers. Once you have taken out the five mentioned in the first paragraph, they will reappear around the area with Cao Cao, but by themselves this time. Since you need to defeat all of the officers, it doesn't really matter which one you go after first, although they will all come after you now. It's best to keep them separated, so you don't get swarmed. The battle is over when the last officer falls. .-------------------------------. ======| C. Battle of Wujun (Sun Ce) | (B103) '-------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 2/10 At the beginning of the battle, some soldiers will join up with Sun Ce's forces. After that, the gates to Huiji Garrison open up and Chen Heng will begin heading towards your main camp, so defeat him before he gets there. Head inside after and an officer will join your army, so go and defeat any remaining officers inside of the garrison. Continue to Moling Garrison and do the same as the above, with another officer joining your army and then cleaning up the officers inside. You may have noticed that Sun Quan gets trapped inside of Niuzhu Garrison, with Zhou Tai going to help him. After finishing up with Moling, defeat the base captain to open up the gate to Niuzhu, then defeat the officers inside to rescue Sun Quan. Eventually, Zhou Yu will show up in the north, which will trigger one of the enemy officers from the southern garrison to make his way towards your main camp. Make sure you rescue Sun Quan first, then head back and defeat this officer (Zhang Ying). Make your way to the southern garrison and when you enter, Taishi Ci will become the commander. Defeat him to put an end to this battle. .-------------------------------. ======| D. Battle of Wujun (Allied) | (B104) '-------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 2/10 At the start, open up the small base in the middle of the map and start making your way to the eastern side of the battlefield. Defeat any other officers in the vicinity, except for Zhou Tai, as you will want to wait until Zhang Ying lures Sun Quan into an ambush. As soon as Sun Quan is isolated, he'll call for Zhou Tai's help, which will make him move towards his location. Defeat Zhou Tai before he manages to meet up with Sun Quan, then go and get rid of Sun Quan afterwards. It is likely that at this point, your main camp will be under attack, so go and defeat the officers attacking it, and begin moving north. Head inside the western garrison and clear it, then move north to Sun Ce. Defeat him to end the battle. .---------------------------------. ======| E. Guan Yu's Escape (Guan Yu) | (B105) '---------------------------------' DIFFICULTY - 3/10 You must protect the carriage in this battle, which is a fairly linear one, as you progress from gate to gate, defeating the enemy officers in your way. Defeating the officers guarding the gates will open them up, allowing you and the carriage to keep moving forward. At the beginning of the battle, defeat Zhang Liao and then the officer guarding the gate. Progress past the second gate, where you will see Xu Huang, so defeat him and then open up the third gate. Once you do, Xiahou Dun will appear near the beginning of the stage and begin pursuing after you and the carriage. Defeat Xu Zhu in the next area, then head to the final gate. It is likely that Xiahou Dun
has caught up with you, so defeat him and then the last officer to open the
gate. When the carriage reaches the escape point, the battle will end.

      .---------------------------------.
======|  F. Guan Yu's Escape (Cao Cao)  | (B106)
      '---------------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 3/10

This stage is similar to the Guan Yu version, except you need to destroy the
carriage instead of protect it. When you begin, the carriage will already be
clearing the second gate, so you will need to hurry past the sea of enemies in
order to get to it. Defeat Liao Hua to open the first gate, then slaughter the
second officer in the next area.

Past the second gate will be Zhao Yun and then Guan Ping right after the third
one. It is already likely that Liu Bei has appeared at the north end of the map.
It is also likely that you have already caught up to the carriage and Guan Yu,
so destroy the carriage. Note that the fourth gate has Zhang Fei, but all you
have to do is defeat Guan Yu to finish the battle.

      .----------------------------.
======|  G. Battle of Hefei (Wei)  | (B107)
      '----------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 4/10

At the beginning of the battle, take out the two officers in the immediate area,
one of which is Ding Feng. Head east and Zhang Liao will retreat from the battle
to set up a surprise attack. As you're fighting in the center, Sun Quan will
order his forces to start attacking, where they will go to the north, center and
southwest.

Stay in the central area or go to the north, defeat any officers in the way,
until Cao Cao appears and Zhang Liao will spring his ambush, splitting the Wu
forces. This will also trigger Gan Ning's appearance in the north, who will
become your top priority, since he will head to your main camp. After that,
clean up the rest of the enemy, then head to Sun Quan to end the battle.

      .---------------------------.
======|  H. Battle of Hefei (Wu)  | (B108)
      '---------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 4/10

For starters, go into the middle of the map and start clearing it out. Pang De
will be inside the base there and Cao Zhang will appear to the west and then
head into the central area. At around this time, Zhang Liao will appear to the
east, destroy the Xiaoshi Bridge and begin attacking Sun Quan.

Go ahead and move over there, making sure to put a stop to Zhang Liao, who will
temporarily withdraw from the battle. Head to the north and as you're doing so,
Yu Jin will appear there, as well as Zhang Liao a second time. Defeat them all,
noting Zhang Liao will temporarily withdraw again, and get ready for some more
action.

Xiahou Dun and someone else will appear in the northeast, while Xu Huang will
appear in the southwest. Go after Xiahou Dun first, as he is likely the closest
of the two, then head to the southwest corner. As you're moving there, Zhang
Liao will spawn a third time in the southwest. Defeat Zhang Liao and he does the
usual, then clean up the rest of the officers.

It's now time to start heading to the enemy main camp and wouldn't you know it?
Zhang Liao will spawn for the fourth time right outside of the camp, but
luckily, this will be the last time. Defeat him and then the rest of the
officers, before going to take down Cao Cao to finish the battle.

      .----------------------------------.
======|  I. Battle of Mt. Dingjun (Wei)  | (B109)
      '----------------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 5/10

Start the battle by going into the middle and clearing it out a bit, taking out
the one officer that comes your way. After some time passes, some of the Shu
forces will advance and this will continue. You can do one of two things here,
either wait in the middle of the battlefield and let the enemy come to you, or
you can bring the battle to them.

It might be a better plan to wait in the middle, as this will give your allied
officers a lot of help against the large influx of enemies that is bound to
gather. Once Wei Yan, Zhao Yun, and Guan Ping are gone, go after Huang Zhong and
that will trigger Liu Bei to advance. Defeat Liu Bei to finish the battle.

      .----------------------------------.
======|  J. Battle of Mt. Dingjun (Shu)  | (B110)
      '----------------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 5/10

Your first objective is to capture Mt. Tiandong, which is guarded by Xiahou De.
There isn't much guarding Tiandong, as it's just Xiahou De and one other
officer, so it should be pretty easy to capture. The next task given is to
defeat both Xiahou Yuan and Zhang He, both of whom are located in a mass of
enemies.

The smart thing to do is thin out the enemies first before going straight after
the two marked officers. Once you get a chance, defeat both of them and then
continue fighting the remaining enemies on the map. Not too long after both of
the above officers are gone, Cao Cao will appear and bring some fodder troops in
a bunch of spots. It's best to clear out the rest of the officers, then go after
Cao Cao to finish the battle.

      .---------------------------------.
======|  K. Battle of Fan Castle (Wei)  | (B111)
      '---------------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 5/10

At the start of the battle, clear the initial area and then start heading east.
Guan Ping is preparing to start a flood attack, so that's going to be your goal
for now. When you get onto the highest part of the castle, an ambush will be
sprung, so take care of it and start moving south. Defeat both officers, one of
which is Guan Ping, to thwart the flood attack.

Not long after stopping the flood attack, some reinforcements will show up for
Shu. For now, just head north and then west towards Guan Yu's position. There
isn't going to much other than normal soldiers between you and Guan Yu now, so
defeat him to end the battle.

      .--------------------------------.
======|  L. Battle of Fan Castle (Wu)  | (B112)
      '--------------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 5/10

At the beginning of the battle, Shu is readying the flood attack. Allied forces
are trying to head for higher ground, but they are being blocked by three
officers, who are Ma Liang, Yi Ji and Guan Xing. Defeat all three as quickly as
possible to make sure the allied forces do get to higher ground before the flood
attack commences.

While you're fighting to rescue the allied officers, some reinforcements for Shu
will appear from the southeast corner. Once you rescue the last officer, which
should be Gan Ning, wait for them to get to higher ground, then head to higher
ground yourself. As soon as you set foot on higher ground, the flood attack will
happen and a lot of the middle area of the map will be lost.

If the reinforcement is causing trouble, go back and quickly take him out, then
continue with your previous progress. Go up from where you landed the first time
and defeat Guan Ping, then start fighting your way (or bypass them) to Guan Yu.
Once you defeat Guan Yu, the battle will be over.

      .---------------------------------.
======|  M. Battle of Fan Castle (Shu)  | (B113)
      '---------------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 5/10

Your goal at the beginning is to defeat Pang De, who is commanding the troops on
the front lines. Drop down into the middle area and start fighting, making sure
you defeat both Cao Ren and Xu Huang, who should be wandering around. Now, make
your way to Pang De and defeat him, which will make the game tell you to get to
higher ground to trigger the flood attack.

With the flood attack now in place and the map's layout changed, stay near Guan
Yu until you see that the Wu reinforcements have arrived. The reason for staying
near Guan Yu is because Lu Meng will appear near him. Defeat him and Lu Xun in
the north, then start making your way towards Sima Yi, taking out Gan Ning in
the process. When you get to Sima Yi, defeat him to put an end to the battle.

      .----------------------------------.
======|  N. Battle of Baidi Castle (Wu)  | (B114)
      '----------------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 6/10

Go along the south end of the map at the beginning of the battle, taking out
Liao Hua and making your way through the garrison. Your objective is to get to
the southeast corner and defeat the base captain, so your reinforcements will be
able to join. It is also wise to defeat Guan Suo, who should also be in the
area.

Continue north from your position and eventually, Ma Chao will disappear, but Ma
Dai will advance towards your position. After finishing him off, head to the
eastern gate of Baidi Castle and defeat Yang Yi there to open it up. Head inside
and clear out the arbalests from all of the gates, as well as opening them from
the inside.

It is likely at this point that Ma Chao will reappear close to your main camp,
and Huang Gai will also fall for Huang Zhong's trap. Also, Yue Ying will appear,
close to where Ma Chao initially was located. Go and rescue Sun Quan, then head
back towards Baidi Castle. Clear out the rest of the officers, then go and
defeat Liu Shan to finish the battle.

      .-----------------------------------.
======|  O. Battle of Baidi Castle (Shu)  | (B115)
      '-----------------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 6/10

At the start of the battle, head inside the Stone Sentinel Maze and defeat the
officers there. Come out the other side and head to Zhou Tai's position at the
top of the hill. You may have noticed that some volunteers spawn to the south of
your position, so after taking out Zhou Tai, head to the south and help them
out.

Defeating Ding Feng near the peasants will end up making them escape, so after
doing that, clear out the rest of the area of the enemy officers. After that,
head to the west and defeat Lu Xun, then head north to Sun Quan's position. When
you get there, he disappears and an ambush appears, which you should defeat (at
least the Lieutenants).

Go around the rest of the map and clear it of any remaining officers. Sun Quan
will reappear in the southwest corner, so that will be your final destination.
If enough time passes, Wu reinforcements will arrive from the southeast corner
and close to the enemy main camp. Once you are ready, head to the enemy main
camp and defeat Sun Quan to end the battle.

      .-------------------------------------.
======|  P. Battle of Wuzhang Plains (Wei)  | (B116)
      '-------------------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 8/10

At the start of the battle, go into the middle of the map and just clear some of
the enemy officers until you see some reinforcements of yours appear. This
reinforcement unit will be ambushed by a Shu one, so head over there and defeat
the Shu officer. You will notice that some more Shu officers will being moving
into the central area of the map, so go there after and get rid of them.

You will also notice that Shu will have supplies reaching the frontlines, but
wait until you see a message saying a supply route has been discovered. Go after
this to shut down the supplies. It should be around that time that Zhuge Liang
will suddenly die, which will make Jiang Wei the new commander, as well as
initiate a retreat for Shu.

When you get close enough to the main camp for Shu, Jiang Wei will make an
ambush unit appear on the cliffs along the center of the map. These will consist
of arbalests and a bunch of archers, so make your way to the two side cliffs, as
well as the central one to destroy all of the arbalests. Some reinforcements
will also appear for Shu.

As soon as anyone approaches the southeast, some fire pots will explode. This
will make two base captains highlighted on your map, which you must defeat in
order to defuse the pots. Once you get rid of them, start making your way
towards Jiang Wei. Defeating Jiang Wei will end the battle with your victory.

      .-------------------------------------.
======|  Q. Battle of Wuzhang Plains (Shu)  | (B117)
      '-------------------------------------'
DIFFICULTY - 8/10

At the beginning of the battle, Zhuge Liang mentions it's important to keep the
supply routes open, so he orders you to capture the two bases of Wei's on the
frontlines. Note that two Wei officers will attempt to cut off the supply route
and you may have to defeat them if they managed to make it to the bases before
you capture them.

When you capture both, Yue Ying and some wooden oxen will spawn on the west side
of the map. Clear a path for them and when they reach the front lines, some of
your own forces will begin advancing. Around the same time as the wooden oxen
come, Deng Ai will appear and begin setting up some catapults. Wait until he
does, then open up the central gates and defeat him to make them stop.

With those things done, the battle is free for now. Go around and defeat any
officers that will open up gates, then feel free to pick at them as you push
into the enemy's main base. As any of your forces approach the northwest corner,
Xiahou Ba will begin a rockslide. The same is true with the other side of the
map, except it's ambush troops.

Go up either side of the map and defeat the officer in charge of the ambush, or
the rockslide. If there are any remaining officers on the map, feel free to go
and clean them up now. Once you do, go ahead and defeat Sima Yi to finish the
stage.

Q) When was DW7: Xtreme Legends released?
A) It was released on September 29, 2011 in Japan and on November 15, 2011 in
   North America (with a European release soon after).

Q) I can't get this secret weapon!
A) The Secret Weapons will automatically be given to you once you fulfill the
   conditions for them, which are pretty self-explanatory.

Q) Any recommended weapon setups for Chaos/Nightmare?
A) Chaos is fairly easy and shouldn't need a specific weapon combo, although
   it's wise to bring a Speed weapon to help regain health (if you have that
   Title). As for Nightmare, I like to use the Chaos Flute and the Chaos War
   Fan. Equip them with 2x Horsemanship, 2x Projectile Resistance, 2x Officer
   Assassin, 2x Elemental Attack Up, and one with Double Element and the other
   with Projectile Resistance. With Red Hare, just go around and spam the
   Flute's horse charge attack.

Q) Who is the best character?
A) That's really subjective and considering anyone can equip a majority of the
   weapons with great efficiency, it's entirely up to you using your favorite
   character.
