Sengoku Musou 3 Z ============================================================================== Tactical Bonuses/Original Career Mode Translation Guide ============================================================================== Introduction ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've updated this document to include the tactical bonuses for every stage of each character's Musou Mode, not just those needed to unlock their unique weapons. I've also adapted and expanded on the Original Career Mode path goals that I posted on the GameFAQs message board. This is primarily a translation document. To get each bonus you must defeat a particular enemy general while fulfilling a particular condition. Moving the cursor over each exclamation point will display the requirements to get that bonus. The below list can be most productively used in combination with this screen. Just match the numbers or, if necessary, the general's name. Generals connected to tactical bonus have 撃破効果 displayed above their heads in a manner similar to that of generals associated with missions. They also have yellow rings around their marks on the minimap. When a general has been defeated and a bonus successfully obtained the game will slow down and display the text 撃破効果発動! on the screen. There are 5 main reasons to care about tactical bonuses: 1. Fulfilling the requirements will grant you a particular bonus (displayed on the tactical situation screen but not included below) such as giving you weapons/armor/material, providing reinforcements, giving the enemy a negative status effect, etc. 2. Tactical bonuses are connected with unlocking each character's unique weapons. 3. When all 4 bonuses for a stage have been gained (in a single session) in a character's Musou mode, the text 発動済 will be displayed for that stage in that character's stage select screen. Doing this for all stages for all characters is necessary to gain the 縦横無尽 trophy. 4. Getting all 4 bonuses in a single stage provides bonus points. 5. Getting tactical bonuses is necessary to complete some goals in Original Career Mode (the conditions for these tactical bonuses are randomly generated.) Unlocking Rare Weapons -------------------------------------------------------------------------[URW] To unlock a character's fourth weapon you must: 1. Have cleared the character's Musou Mode 2. Get all tactical bonuses in a particular stage (in Musou Mode) at a difficulty of difficult (難しい) or higher. To unlock a character's fifth weapon you must: 1. Do the above on a different stage, this time at Shura (修羅) difficulty. Stages in which you can receive rare weapons are marked (4th) or (5th) after the stage name. The chosen character will receive a bonus to their starting money depending on their current level, but all characters in Original Career Mode begin at level 1. Next you will choose a career path: Force (武力), Intellect (知力), or Fortune (財力). (A fourth path, Unification, will be unlocked once you have completed one of these three paths.) Your career will progress in Days. Each Day can consist of an infinite number of short, 15 minute time limit battles. At the end of each battle you will have the option to continue or to end that Day. You receive a monetary bonus for continuing, but your character is not healed and your progress is not saved until the Day ends, so continuing too long can be dangerous. (There is no penalty for dying, but you lose all unsaved progress). When not fighting you will be at the Preparation screen. From here you can use the shop, choose your bodyguards, check your progress, return to the main title, or end your career. Importantly, your character can only level up by purchasing levels from the shop (these levels are only for the purpose of Career Mode and will not otherwise affect the character.) You will be given a goal depending on your career path (goals are listed below) and a number of days in which to complete it. You can check your progress towards the goal by selecting 目標確認 from various menus. The top number of your progress is the number of days remaining before your deadline. When it reaches 0 you will fight a "major" battle with a 30 minute time limit. For any given goal your efforts will be graded as a Failure, Success, or Grand Success once you reach the deadline. Grand Success requires that you surpass the goal given to you (the requirements for this are given in parentheses in the list below). Your actions during the major battle will not affect your grade. You will be able to continue on with your career even if you fail in your goal. As you continue in your career, a general will ask you to become their friend in a post-battle event (you'll have a yes/no choice which includes the word 友誼). That general will be the head of your army in all future major battles. If you refuse them then you will receive the offer from other generals following future battles. You will not receive your third career goal until you have a friend. Your rival (好敵手) will declare themselves in a post-battle event after you have a friend. This general will appear in a strengthened form in future major battles and is significant for the final goal of the Unification career path. Original Career Mode is endless. You can continue playing for as long as you want, but you will receive no new goals after the 6th. When you choose to end your career, all of your weapons, armor, horses, rice, and material will be available for you to use outside of Original Career Mode. Your career data will then be erased. Obtain 12 (19) victories, fight your rival 8 (13) times Original Career Mode Rewards -------------------------------------------------------------------------[OCR] There are three unique pieces of armor of each type and all of them can be gotten in Original Career Mode. Each of the three career paths is assigned one of the armor types: Force - Armor Intellect - Gauntlet Fortune - Boots You gain a piece of unique armor when you: 1. Complete the 5th major battle and reach Day 30 (regardless of your grades). 2. Reach Day 37 having achieved a grade of either Success or Grand Success in all six goals. 3. Reach Day 37 having achieved a grade of Grand Success in all six goals. The second two conditions are mutually exclusive. You will receive either the second piece or the third piece, but not both. Thus, if you want all the pieces of unique armor, you will have to go through each career path twice, once getting all Grand Successes and once not. The rewards for the fourth career path, Unification, are different: 1. You receive the unique saddle Matsukaze for reaching Day 30 (regardless of your efforts). This will only happen the first time you do this; you will receive a random piece of low-tier unique armor in following playthroughs. 2. You receive the Bear saddle for reaching Day 37 having achieved a grade of either Success or Grand Success in all six goals. 3. You receive a random piece of unique armor from one of the other career paths if you reach Day 37 having achieved a grade of Grand Success in all six goals. You also receive 200 koku of rice for completing a career path (300 in the case of Unification). Intellect (知力)
-------------------------------------------------------
Completing the fourth goal can be very tiresome. Although secret info drops
are usually plentiful, the game seems to dramatically lower their drop rate
while this is your goal. It is not unusual to find only one or no info during
a mission. The below advice may help somewhat.

Secret info can be found as:
- Drops from enemy generals
- Drops from ninjas. Ninja captains (隠密頭) almost always drop them.
- Drops from bales of rice and chests

Three items perchase at the shop may be of use in collecting secret info:

天眼珠  500 Reveals groups of enemies if you go to certain areas of the
            map. If you go to the correct area, a message will pop up
            notifying you that you have found hidden enemies. Each group of
            enemies will be led by either a supply guard or ninja captain.
兵法書 1000 Enemies will sometimes drop twice as much info. This does not 
            affect the info drop rate.
銀枷   1000 Lowers your stats for the next battle but gives all enemies a
            chance of dropping info.           

One last suggestion is that because ninja have a chance of dropping info (a
very high chance in the case of ninja captains), some battlefields are better
than others. 

In the battlefield selection screen, each location has two lines of 
description. If available, select battlefields that have the description
この地では、多くの忍びが戦っている。("a large number of ninja are fighting
here") as the top line or 付近に、忍びが集う場所があるという。("it is said
that there is a gathering spot for ninja in the area") as the bottom line.

Fortune (財力)
-------------------------------------------------------
Although nowhere near as time consuming as collecting secret info, defeating
supply guards for the second goal can be difficult if you can't read 
Japanese. Supply guards look like normal soldiers that have 荷駄頭 appearing
above them. They die in a few hits and always drop something.

As mentioned above, the 天眼珠 item can be an effective way of spawning
supply guards.

Supply guards often appear in the battles where you face two enemy armies.
Although this can randomly happen in any battle, by choosing a battlefield
with a top description of この地では、大規模な戦いが起きている。("there is a
large scale battle occuring here") you can force it. 

Supply guards are shown on the pause screen along with enemy generals. Select
各種情報 (either the fifth or fourth choice depending on whether you've
started the battle yet or not) and then select 全武将 (all generals) and 
scroll through the enemy list(s) for 荷駄頭. It's also worth checking for 
Uesugi Kenshin, Shima Sakon, Garasha, and Fukushima Masanori as allied 
generals. These four generals may give you a mission to retrieve some sake
if you come near them. This sake will be carried by a supply guard.

Some other battlefield descriptions that point towards supply guards being
present are 多くの物資が、この地に運びこまれている。(top line, "a large 
number of goods pass through this area") and 付近に、補給線があるという。
(bottom line, "it is said that there is a supply line nearby").

Finally, [Name]が宝物を運んでいるらしい。(bottom line, "[Name] is 
transporting treasure) is a useful description for this entire career path 
(though one unrelated to supply guards). The general in question will spawn
along with a number of soldiers if you go to the correct part of the map. 
Each of these soldiers will drop 100 ryo when they are killed.

Unification (天下)
-------------------------------------------------------
The only original goal is the last which requires you to fight your rival.
The tedium of this goal varies widely depending on who your rival is. The
appearance of certain characters in a battle can be predicted based upon the
battlefield description. If your rival is one of those characters, it makes
things easier.

Descriptions and their matching characters: 

無双の強者が出陣しているという。 
      Maeda Keiji, Imagawa Yoshimoto, Honda Tadakatsu, Tachibana Muneshige
この地には、恐ろしい熊がいる。 
      Tokugawa Ieyasu, Shimazu Yoshihiro, Fuma Kotaro, Kaihime
この地では、多くの忍びが戦っている。
      Kunoichi, Hattori Hanzo, Nene, Fuma Kotaro 
強者を求めて戦う猛者がいるという。
      Sanada Yukimura, Inahime, Azai Nagamasa, Maeda Toshiie

If one of the possible characters is serving as your bodyguard they will not
appear. This potentially allows you to guarantee that a certain character
will appear. 


Original Career Mode Tactical Bonuses

As mentioned above, tactical bonuses are involved with some goals in Original
Career Mode. Specifically, the third and sixth goals of the Intellect (知力) 
path.

The tactical bonuses for each stage are randomly generated in Original Career
Mode which is problematic for providing guidance to those who can't read
Japanese. The easiest bonus to understand is the one with a time limit, since 
it's the only bonus that shows a timer in the tactical situation screen.
