Well this is it. The last episode. The thrilling climax. The point at which everything will be revealed. The last fifth of your money's worth. The first thing that should be mentioned is that this guide is geared towards the PlayStation 3 version of the game. This is because the main body includes trophies that will probably won't be of interest to PC users. If you are a PC user, then I suggest that you either look at dark52's walkthrough (also hosted by GameFAQs) or find the official walkthrough on Telltale Games's website. This is probably the hardest episode in the series, especially considering you have to beat it without having to rely on Max's Future Vision or nearly all of his other psychic powers. Fortunately I am here to help you, and like all the other guides I've written for previous episodes, This guide strives to help everyone in every circumstance. Stuck on a particular spot? Check out The Hard Bits. Struggling to find that last trophy? Check out List of Trophies. Just want to go through the entire game without straining the brain AND get all the trophies while you are at it? Then the Full Walkthrough is just for you. Note that in all the walkthroughs I write, I try to keep spoilers to an absolute minimum. However as I want to make my guides as detailed as possible to prevent anyone getting lost or confused some spoilers are inevitable, so I apologise in advance. Therefore what I suggest you do is only read as much of this guide as you need to avoid disappointment. =============================================================================== -> THE HARD BITS [ARDBIT] In this section I list some of the hardest puzzles in the game and also how to beat them. If you are stuck on something in particular, chances are it is one of these nasties. All questions are answered with minimal spoilers. For help on trophies, refer to the "List of Trophies" section. ACT 1 ===== Q: How do I get the corn meal off the van? A: Open your inventory and activate the box of corn dogs. Walk to the van and wave the corn dog, then position yourself near the pothole and eat the corn dog. Q: How do I stop everyone looking at Mr. Featherly while he is laying an egg? A: Make sure you do the following in this order: Talk to C.O.P.S. and choose "Viruses", then talk to Momma Bosco and choose "Dimensional Destabilizer", then finally talk to Agent Superball and choose "Turn around". ACT 2 ===== Q: How do I get Sybil to operate the treadmill? She could do with losing a few pounds. A: Well, that's not very nice is it? Travel down the tube with the box picture hanging on it to Max's Inventory. Examine the roach farm, then examine the spare cable and Sam will transform into a vacuum cleaner. Bump into the shelf holding the roach farm three times to release the cockroach. Go back to the leg controls and show Sybil the cockroach. Q: How do I solve the Arcade machine puzzle? A: Max's Ventriloquism power forces Sam to say the exact opposite of what he wants to say, so if you choose the option that is the exact opposite of what the images depict on the screen, the ventriloquism power forces Sam to say the right answer. Look at the hand or foot image carefully. Left Hand <--> Right Foot Right Hand <--> Left Foot Q: Who can I send into the arm control room now that the room is flooded with radiation? A: Sal. First you need to have the cockroach in your inventory and are able to control Giant Max's legs. Go to Max's stomach and place the cockroach on the Now Craving platter. Control Max and head to Bosco-Tech Labs. Finally talk to Sal. ACT 3 ===== Q: How do I escape from the cell in Skun-ka'pe's flagship? A: Select the backdrop behind you to reveal some wires. Now press Triangle to switch clones. Choose "Clone SP-42-X". With this clone, open the fuse box to your right. Next drink from the water bottle and then spit on the fuse box. Switch Sams and choose "Clone HW-021-S". Use the hamster wheel in your cell. You should automatically switch back to the middle clone. Select the wires to get out of your cell. Q: Where can I find Skun-ka'pe? A: He isn't in his spaceship. He's somewhere else. After escaping from the cell in the spaceship, go to the top deck and talk to the brain. Choose "Mole Men" four times. Now talk to Grandpa Stinky and choose any two options and then "Grandpa Stinky". Finally choose "Skunkape" and you'll hear of Skun-ka'pe's location. ACT 4 ===== Q: How do I get the toy of power from General Skun-ka'pe? A: Select the fog machine so that you can get past the infra-red lasers. Next pick up the photo resting on the crate and place the photo of the Devil's Toybox in its place. Finally choose "Toy Robot" and then "For This Bomb". Q: How do I get out of Max's body? A: Take the audioguide "Are You There, Great Bear Spirit?" from the record shelf and place it on the record player. While the track is playing, select the tear duct which is situated between the stomach and arm tubes. =============================================================================== ->FULL WALKTHROUGH [WKTHRU] Okey-dokey! Here it is! The full walkthrough of Sam & Max Season 3 Episode 5. If you follow this guide word-by-word you should finish the game with all the trophies. o------------------------------------Act 1------------------------------[#10]-o |Objective(s) | Once you get control of Sam, talk to Momma |_|Hire a rescue team to get | Bosco. You can talk to the others if you want, |_ into Max | but you don't have to yet. Next take the |_|Get eaten by Max | elevator upstairs and leave Bosco-Tech. o-----------------------------o After the scene approach Flint Paper and Grandpa Stinky. Talk to Grandpa Stinky and choose Corn Dogs. Grandpa Stinky will give you his recipe for corn dogs. Your task is to create a huge corn dog for Max to eat so that you are able to get inside him. Also pick up the box of corn dogs on the floor. Now let's talk trophies. See those Max heads floating around the area? There is a trophy called "Fire Retardant" which is unlocked after shooting all of these Max spores. There are two Max spores in this area. Shoot the Max spore near Grandpa Stinky's van and shoot the Max spore near the DeSoto. There are a few more flaming Maxes in the game so you won't get the trophy just yet. Take another look at the corn dog recipe. We might as well do them all in order. The first ingredient on the list is one mostly pure pork by-product frank (or substitute). The DeSoto will do here. Walk towards the DeSoto and activate the box of corn dogs in your inventory. Here you can choose to wave the corn dog or eat it. Waving the corn dog will get Max to pick up anything near Sam. Eating the corn dog will cause Max to drop whatever it is he's holding near Sam's position. With that in mind, make sure Sam is near the DeSoto and then wave the corn dog. Max will pick the DeSoto up. Next walk to the large water-logged pothole in the road and eat the corn dog. Max should then drop the DeSoto into the pothole. Consult your recipe again. You will see that the pork by-product frank has been ticked off. The 1024 gallons of pure New York City tap water is also ticked, since the pothole already has water. Next is the one ton of corn meal. The corn meal is in Grandpa Stinky's van, but Sam can't take it out of there. Instead get Max to do it. Activate the box of corn dogs, walk towards the van and wave the corn dog at Max so that he picks the van up. Then move towards the pothole and eat the corn dog. Now the pothole has the corn meal in it. Next on the recipe is 800 gallons of vegetable oil. Conveniently there are 800 gallons of vegetable oil on the roof of Bosco-Tech. Use the fire escape on the side of the building and you'll find Satan and Jurgen. Talk to them and choose "Go Mets!" and then "Freelance Police!". Those two options earn you your first trophy! o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Bronze| Quiet on the Set | o------o----------------------------------o | Snuck into the frame of Satan's | | documentary at least twice | o-----------------------------------------o Still talking to Satan, choose "Behind the Scenes". With the devil distracted highlight the microphone and swap it with a corn dog from the box in your inventory. You will now have the vegetable oil in the pothole. Just one more ingredient to go and it is an egg. How hard can that be? Go back into Bosco-Tech and talk to Mr. Featherly. Choose "Egg?". You have to get everybody in the room to stop looking in the chicken's direction, but you have to do it in a certain order. First talk to C.O.P.S. and choose "Viruses" to get them to reboot and stop them from looking. Next talk to Momma Bosco and choose "Dimensional Destabilizer" to get rid of Papierwaite and Dr. Norrington for a while. Finally talk to Agent Superball and tell him to "Turn Around". Now that you have your egg, go back outside Bosco-Tech and break the egg into the pothole. Now select the corn dog DeSoto to finish the act and earn a trophy for your trouble. o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Silver| Maxtastic Voyage | o------o----------------------------------o |Sent a rescue team into the body of Giant| | Max | o-----------------------------------------o o------------------------------------Act 2------------------------------[#20]-o |Objective(s) | You are now inside Max's stomach. Look for the |_|Get into Max's cerebral | food processor on the table in the centre of |_ cortex | the room and use the jar of espresso [sic] |_|Attempt to get into Max's | beans on it. There is a Flaming Max in here, |_ brain | but for some reason Max doesn't shoot it when |_|Gain control of Max's legs | directed to. Don't worry as this particular |_|Gain control of Max's arms | head doesn't count towards the "Fire Retardant" |_|Get into Max's brain | trophy. Anyway the espresso beans creates a o-----------------------------o passage to Max's cerebral cortex, so use the tube in the room and it will take you there. When you arrive at Max's cerebral cortex, examine the tumour Sybil, Papierwaite and Dr. Norrington are looking at. Now BEFORE you open that door Papierwaite mentioned, let's do some trophies. To the right of the tumour you will find a record shelf. Examine the shelf and take the four vinyls poking out of the shelf. To the right of the shelf is a record player. To get the trophy "The Unabridged Version" you have to play and listen to the entirety of all four audiobooks. "Are You There, Great Bear Spirit?" has three different "tracks" whereas the other three audiobooks have two. Take an audiobook out and place it on the record player. Listen to the whole track and don't do everything until the track has ended. Even after Max stops talking, the track isn't finished until the turntable on the record player has stopped rotating. Only then the track is marked as listened. After listening to the first track, select the record player to hear the second track and once the turntable stops turning for that track, select it again to hear the third track if applicable. Once you've heard all the tracks on that audiobook in its entirety, rinse and repeat with the other three audiobooks. It’s also worth noting that once Max finishes talking on the "Are You There, Great Bear Spirit?" audiobook, the screen will rock around a bit. That's Giant Max crying. Don't let it put you off from waiting the turntable to stop rotating. Once all nine tracks are listened to in their entirety you'll earn a trophy. This is a rather long paragraph. o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Bronze| The Unabridged Version | o------o----------------------------------o | Listened to all of Max's audiobooks on | | vinyl in their entirety | o-----------------------------------------o Now turn your attention to the Flaming Max spore floating around the room. First shoot it with your gun. Now select it seven times for another trophy. This is a rather short paragraph. o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Bronze|Like Battery Acid and Pickle Juice| o------o----------------------------------o | Heard at least five accounts of what | | nightmares taste like | o-----------------------------------------o Now it is time to open the door to the brain. Oh well, that didn't work. You're back in the stomach again. Go back up to the cerebral cortex. There are three tubes in the cerebral cortex. Travel through the tube that has the picture of Max's feet on it. You are now in Max's leg controls. Shoot the Flaming Max spore floating around the room and then talk to Sybil. This is probably the funniest part of the whole game. Explore all the options available and prepare to laugh at the hilarity. You may have noticed that there is a second tube in this room, one with a picture of a box on it. Ride it to "None of Your Damn Business" (it's actually called that), better known as Max's Inventory. There is a trophy you can get here, and you can get it by examining all the items you see in here (except the Flaming Max spore). Go ahead and take a look around but leave the spare cables, balloons and roach farm until last. Once examining the rest of the items, examine the balloons, then the roach farm. You can't reach the roach farm though. Examine the spare cables, which should be the last item to examine. o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Bronze| For Insurance Purposes | o------o----------------------------------o | Checked out every object in Max's | | inventory | o-----------------------------------------o You have been transformed into a vacuum cleaner and you can't stop for anything! While you are a vacuum, bump into the shelf where the roach farm is three times and the roach will be freed. Take the tube back up to the leg controls. Show Sybil the cockroach and you will finally be able to control Max! I know you're dying to, but don't control him just yet. Instead travel up the tube to the cerebral cortex and then travel down the remaining tube you haven't gone down yet - to the arms. This place is where Max's Arm Controls are, and this is literally the only time you can shoot the Flaming Max spore you can see floating around this room. This should be the last spore to shoot down and you should get a trophy! o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Bronze| Fire Retardant | o------o----------------------------------o | Shot all of the Flaming Max spores | o-----------------------------------------o Use the arcade machine to the left of the tube. You have to play a little minigame here. Two icons will flash up, and you have to choose the option describing the icons shown on the arcade machine. However the Psychic Ventriloquism power will kick in, forcing Sam to say the exact opposite of what you choose him to say. You have to trick the Ventriloquism into saying the right thing by choosing the opposite. Don't worry, it's very simple. One of the icons is either a foot or a hand, with an L or R inside it. Choose the opposite of that symbol. For example, if a right hand is showing, choose "Left Foot ", or if a right foot is showing, choose "Left Hand ". Easy peasy. You have to get three right answers in a row to activate the manual override. Get one wrong and you have to start over. After getting three in a row, choose either option when the choices appear. You'll find yourself back in the cerebral cortex and you still can't control Max's arms. You will need to find somebody immune to radiation, other than Sam Junior. Now it is time to control Giant Max! Press Triangle and choose "Control Max". As Max you can walk around and stuff, but you can't grab things yet. Walk North and a little bit West until you find a building with spotlights coming from its roof. That's Bosco-Tech. Highlight and choose to "menace Bosco-Tech Labs". When Giant Max arrives there, Switch back to Sam, choosing "Go Home" when asked. While in the cerebral cortex, go down to the stomach. Look for a platter to the left of the room. It has a sign with the words "now craving" nearby. Swap the corn dog on the platter with the cockroach in your inventory. After the scene talk to Sal and he'll do the rest. After wiping the tears away, control Max again. Go all the way to the South of the city and select Battery Park. o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Silver| Battery Park | o------o----------------------------------o | Overcame the psychic powers to enter | | Max's brain | o-----------------------------------------o Now all you need to do is enter Max's brain through the door in the cerebral cortex to wrap up the second act. o------------------------------------Act 3------------------------------[#30]-o |Objective(s) | Well, well, well. Choose all the options here |_|Find the location of the | if you so wish, then when you are ready, quit | Cthonic Destroyer | the conversation. Go to the left of the room o-----------------------------o and use the circuit breaker, then leave the room back to the cerebral cortex. Choose either option that appear. After talking to your two helpers, go back into the brain and take note of the astral projector to the right of the room and the memory book next to it. There are six spaces for slides in the book, but only one slide is available at the moment, and there is no Sam clones available there. Time to jump into Max's brain and get a few more slides! Getting all six slides will earn you the "All the Old Familiar Places" trophy. You can get another four slides now, making a total of five. The sixth can only be found later. So stamp around the city and select Battery Park, the Federated Consolidated Building, Bosco-Tech Labs and, more importantly, Skun-ka'pe's flagship. Once you've done that, switch back to Sam. Examine the memory book again. Choose the Skunkape's Flagship slide and then "Astral Project" there. You need to get out of that cell. Select the backdrop behind you to reveal some wires. Now that you are free go up to the upper deck (the door to the right, remember) and select the brain (Gordon's alive?!?). I suggest you choose all the options available to you. I find it quite funny. What you need to do is choose "Mole Men" four times and Grandpa Stinky will show up. Talk to him and choose any two options and then "Grandpa Stinky" when it appears. New options appear. Choose "Skunkape" to learn of where Skun-ka'pe is. Leave the spaceship by pressing Triangle and choosing "Go Back". Next press Triangle again to control Giant Max. To the South-East of Manhattan, select the Cloning Chamber to memorise it. You'll get another trophy. o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Bronze| All the Old Familiar Places | o------o----------------------------------o | Collected all of Max's precious memory | | slides | o-----------------------------------------o Now switch back to Sam and look in the memory book. Choose to "Astral Project" the Cloning Chamber slide to finish off the act and you'll receive another trophy. o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Silver| Just Ask For Directions Already | o------o----------------------------------o |Found the location of the only thing that| | will save Max | o-----------------------------------------o o------------------------------------Act 4------------------------------[#40]-o |Objective(s) | Don't worry about the bomb strapped to your |_|Get the Cthonic Destroyer | chest. It'll never explode. The front area is |_ from General Skun-ka'pe | guarded by infra-red sensors. Before you go through the laser grid, |_|Get out of Giant Max | examine the box of stuff where the fog machine |_|Complete the game | is rested on. o-----------------------------o You need to examine the granite slab, the projector, the camera and the photo resting on the crate. Put the same photo back in line with the camera for more explanation. All these lead up to the next trophy. o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Bronze| Genius in its Simplicity | o------o----------------------------------o |Heard all the details of Stinky's origin | o-----------------------------------------o Now all you need to do is use the Devil's Toybox photo with the camera. Choose "Toy Robot" and then "For This Bomb". Finally leave via the tunnel to Bosco- Tech, which is the tunnel to the right. When you are back in Max's body, use the Cthonic Destroyer on the tumour. Despite it being one of the toys of power, Sam can use it no problem. o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o |Silver| Prepare for Surgery | o------o----------------------------------o |Delivered the tool necessary to complete | | Max's brain surgery | o-----------------------------------------o Now you need to get out of Giant Max. Remember the record player from before? Place the "Are You There, Great Bear Spirit?" audiobook in the record player. Wait until the screen starts shaking and take the tear duct found between the stomach tube and the hand tube. Once you are back in the Cloning Chamber, just use Max's Snot in your inventory with the clone cooking controls and enjoy the ending. Enjoy this trophy too, because it's the last one this game is going to give you! o-----------------------------------------o |T R O P H Y G E T !| o------o----------------------------------o | Gold | The Happy Ending | o------o----------------------------------o |Discovered a last-minute way to save Max | o-----------------------------------------o So that's it! The end of the game, and the season! I hope you enjoyed the five games. I know I did! See you in Season Four! =============================================================================== -> LIST OF TROPHIES [PS3TPY] In this section I will list all the trophies obtainable in this episode, and a description on how to get each and every one of them.
